I'm writing about the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. We've had ours for 4 years. We wanted to replace just the pillowtop (top piece that zips off). However, we were told by customer service that we can't buy just the top part, that we have to buy the entire shell and pillowtop with a cost of approximately $700!!! This is ridiculous. I have talked to...

Sleep Number I can't sleep without being in pain!

I very rarely use the word HATE but...I HATE MY BED! I've been suffering from severe back problems so I bought the Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. I moved down to LA for a fellowship. I bought a medium/soft bed and was unable to return it so I was looking around for beds and ended up at the Select Comfort store in Woodland Hills, CA. The salesman gave me a wonderful song and dance about how this bed will cure all my back problems. Now that I think about it I feel like the man that sold me the bed at Select Comfort was a dirty salesman! Not only did I buy the bed but the adjustable frame (he told me that it would be like therapy for my back) as well! There goes $4000 down the drain!

I'm so ready to sue this company! I called customer service to complain about my sleep number changing over night and her response was, "Of course it does. Barametric pressure. You should know." My response was, "How the hell was I suppose to know! I'm not a physicist!." Then I got dead silence. We should all get together and bring a class action against this god forsaken company!

All I want is a good night sleep and not to have to check my sleep number everytime I wake up in the middle of the night!

I'd like the bed a lot more if the number didn't keep changing. I don't think it's a leak, since some days the number is actually higher...all by itself. This sickens me when I think of what we paid for it. this happens on both sides of the bed, and no, nobody is messing with the remote, and I wouldn't think that a slight change in barometric pressure or temp is going to change the number by 30 or more! Okay, maybe Tom Brady sent a ball boy over or something.

I hate our sleep number bed. Even when it is at a comfortable number, it's not that comfortable. The outside is harder than the middle - always. Even worse, the number changes without our touching it. I have my side set at 45, and sometimes I look, and it's 90. Other times, it's down to 20. My husband has the same problem with the number going up or down without touching it. I can't get rid of it because he still likes it in spite of the problems. I like our Temperpedic in the guest room, but he hates that one. I'm considering moving into the guest room...

Don't do it! We've had ours for a couple of years and do NOT like it. My husband and I wake up most days with a sore something. I had a spinal fusion many years ago and was sooo looking forward to getting some comfortable sleep. This has occurred on occasion, but rarely. The bed seems to constantly deflate itself and is not 'whisper quite' as promised. Other times, it has inflated itself on one side, so you may go to bed at 65, but wake up with the bed hard as a rock (which is basically like sleeping on top of a giant bump. I find the only way to semi-accurately find your 'sleep number, ' you need to fully inflate the bed and then move down. If you then try to check the number later, it will have moved and you will have to push the remote's buttons numerous times. That is, if you're remote's screen hasn't broken, like mine. Some of the lines work, some don't. Plus, the working lines sometimes change -what fun! Good luck to anybody who buys one of these. It seemed like such a great idea, but now I wish we had our saggy pillowtop back!

We've had our Sleep Number bed for 12 nights now and we are MISERABLE! We are sending it back. For $2500 we expected a LOT more and are completely disappointed. What's ironic is that I'm up at 2:45am because the bed is killing my lower back so bad that I came downstairs to watch TV and guess what's on? An infomercial for the Sleep Number bed! HA!

Sorry about your luck with this bed. Why didn't you bother to put sometime into investigating beds or at least picked up an issue of Consumers Report. I'm ready to by a sleep number bed. I have spoken with numerous people that love ther bed. I share your grief for you but next time don't rush into a spot buy purchase. By the way, You interested in selling me the bed? After 16 surgeries i'm looking forward to a good nightd sleep. Why not donate this nuisance bed. Good write off. If your interested my e-mail is jeffvp@charter.net. God luck with your next bed.

Sleep Number back problems

I purchased a Sleep Number Bed 18 months ago and haven't slept on it for the last 9 months. The reason? I developed sciatica back pain and leg pain after using it for several months. The pain gradually worsened until I finally realized that the cause of the pain resulted from rolling to the center of our Sleep Number queen mattress. My husband, who always had a bad back, also will not sleep on it. Don't let the one month return policy fool you. It takes time before you eventually realize what it causing the pain. I was actually tightening one side of my body so I wouldn't sink in toward the center of the bed. Complaining to Sleep Number customer service only led to them sending more stupid foam that never solved the problem of sinking into the center. I have worked with a chiropractor and had physical therapy. When I still didn't improve, I ended up at a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. I needed traction, physical therapy, pain relievers, and a shot in my spine to finally relieve my pain.. After explaining to the physical therapist what I thought was my problem, he told me to get rid of the bed! He had also purchased a Sleep Number bed, said it was "junk", and gave it to charity.

I have had the same problems with my select comfort bed. The air bed holds the middle of my body up too high regardless of the sleep number used. This causes my back to arch while I'm sleeping and results in back pain all day. I have resorted to sleeping in my old bed with a foam pad on top. That's not perfect, but much better than the high priced select comfort bed. The trench in the middle of the bed is annoying too.

Sleep Number replacing chamber

We purchased our Select Comfort king bed about 12 years ago. Overall we have been happy with it.
We purchased it before it became "Sleep Number" though it's the same concept.
HOWEVER... We have replaced one chamber AND the pump, and now the other (?) chamber needs replacing (it is deflating now).
We went through the drills they have you do - cap it off and see if it deflates, check the black O ring, switch the hoses, etc.
OK - we have determined (we already knew this) that YES - it needs replacing.
Now we find out that it will cost us over $200 to replace. The last time we replaced the chamber it was $87.
We are NOT willing to do this again and told the company we would be getting a different type of bed, that they would be losing a customer.
"BLAH BLAH BLAH" (think Peanuts when the adults speak)...
We cannot for the life of us understand how/why the price of the chamber would more than double within a few years, as it apparently has.
"But we are covering the pro-rated warranty blah blah up to 35%".
Well - whoop tee doo.
Again - we have been quite pleased but now - are not.
What a shame.

After the first 3 years with the Select Comfort Double Classic Mattress things started going wrong. In 10 years I have replaced 5 air chambers with each one costing increasingly more. I received a replacement 3 years ago and noticed it was stamped REFURBISHED. At that time I was told that they only replace with refurbished chambers. And yes, I went through the drill every time of switching the air tubes with the chambers, etc. and this is getting increasingly more irritating as I get older. And I really don't need to be quized about having to many electrical appliances close by or an ionizer or weather that changes as reasons for why I have had "so many chambers go flat". If these are issues with these air chambers there should be some sort of disclaimer to the consumer.

But the last straw was this last call where I was told that if I didn't want a REFURBISHED chamber I could buy a new one for apx $110. I decided to invest this money in a new mattress elsewhere.

Sleep Number select comfort could be paying for heart surgery! haha

I have read through many of the complaints on here and I have an original. :) My sleep number adjustable bed almost gave me a heart attack!

My remote (wireless) stopped controlling the bed a short time ago. Both the sleep number setting remote (I get error messages, dont know what that means) and the remote that controls the base (massager and raising and lowering of the head and foot of the bed) have stopped working. I checked the batteries and its not that, its like there is no communication between the bed and the remote.

I have been meaning to set aside time to call them, but knew it would be a production, so havent done it yet.

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I am awake right now at 5 am because approximately an hour ago, I was soundly snoozing on my bed when all of a sudden, the massager came on ALL by itself! I about had heart attack, it scared me so badly! The remote was in a drawer and in my stupor, I had to stop and think, am I laying on the remote or something? As Im trying to wake up and figure out what the heck is going on, the bed FOLDS ME IN HALF! Scared half to death, I get up, turn on the light, find the remote in the drawer and start pressing the button to stop the massager and unfold the bed. Nothing. I had to unplug the bed completely to get the massager to stop. However the bed will not unfold.

Guess I will call them in the morning! Anyone else have this problem? I havent seen this problem anywhere on the complaint list!

I have learned to live with this bed despite the fact that it gives me the one thing they so heavily advertise it won't happen...back pain. I had to unzip the mattress-cover and place a feather pad ($110) in between the air chambers and the mattress-cover. I also had to put folded towels along the middle section to avoid sinking in the middle of the bed when two people are in it. This company should be held liable for such misleading claims.

The SAME EXACT THING happened to me. Remote no longer communicates with the bed (not the batteries), I have resync'd the remotes with the little black boxes under the bed, but still no communication with each other. Also the numbers faded from out number adjuster remote (not the batteries). Then, yes, in the middle of the night I thought I was having a heart attack because I felt major rumbling and then the top of my bed tilted up, despite the fact that the remote was in the drawer and it has worked for years. Same thing, I eventually unplugged it to stop the rumbling, but the head of my bed won't go down, so I have been sleeping all bent up every night lately. I will call them, but if it's like in the past, I will get no helpful advice, just be told to pay more money since many things aren't covered in their "wonderful" "20 year warrantee". *sigh*

We are pretty happy with our bed which we've had about 5 years, but it does seem to be rather cheaply manufactured. Also, we are disappointed that the remote has quit working - something we rarely used once we learned our number. Therefore, it should not have quit. We are waiting for a response for a replacement. I'm really going to be ticked if we have to pay the full price for a remote replacement.

Sleep Number poor quality

I recently purchased the I9 bed from Sleep Number. The bed was not the quality of bed used in their store/showrooms. The bed was very cheaply made and caused my husband and I both back and neck problems. The mattress pad zipper was broken within 2 days of use...the air chambers would not hold their settings for anytime and you would have to adjust them. You could feel the foam side and center walls under you. When my husband got into the bed I felt as if I were laying on a giant air bubble (like an old waterbed) and it wasn't supposed to do that since we had separate air chambers. We were so dissatisfied with this bed we contacted customer service after 4 nights to ship it back...we were told we HAD to sleep on it for a FULL 30 nights before we could return it. We (after the 3rd complaint) were finally given the RMA # to return it. We had to pay out of our own pocket nearly $500 shipping to return the bed. This has been the worst shopping experience EVER. Please don't make the same mistakes we did! Don't buy their product...it is NOT the quality you see in store.

I purchased a sleep number bed and the quality is so poor! After sleeping on it for six months I decided to zip open the mattress top and found the form bed topper was already tearing in the area where I sleep mostly. Sleep number sent me a new pad but same cheap form so I am sure it will happen again. It was a real pain trying to replace the form pad and trying to get the old pad back in the box to return to sleep number. MY ADVICE IS DON"T BUY ANY SLEEP NUMBER BEDS!

We purchased the sleep number bed and after a few nights, ended up sleeping on our guest bed because we were told we had to sleep on it for 30 days. Finally, we were able to reurn it after a return fee of $180.00. We were so so disssatified with such a advertising gimick. Don't buy this bed! We purchased a regular mattress from Beauty Rest and are very happy.

Sleep Number beware

One thing you must know BEFORE you purchase a Sleep Number bed (SNB) is there is NO REPAIR SERVICE if something goes wrong with your bed. If something breaks they will send you the part(s) but you have to make the repair yourself. I own a King size SNB (7000 series). Even before you get any new parts YOU have to diagnose the problem by crawling under your bed and troubleshooting. If you are disabled like I am and no one else in the household to do this for you that is difficult. I called the home office in Minniapolis (Bill McGlaughlin is the CEO) and his assistant (Chad, employee #89638 and it was his choice to tell me his employee number; I didn't ask and he was not very nice) had a very canned statement about the repair of my bed and it was, if it's broke and you can't fix it, TOUGH! They are happy to send out parts but if you want someone to come fix it they will call the people that delivered and set up the bed and it will cost $150 each time they have to come out. As far as the comfort of this bed; we have had it about a year; it tends to sink in the place where you lay and then there are higher places on each side of where you lay so if you don't get right back in the rut your body had made you do roll back into that spot because of the hill on each side of you. My husband is terminally ill with cancer and I purchased this bed so he could hopefully have ultimate comfort during his struggle--it was a bad/expensive idea. Keep this in mind if you are thinking about purchasing one of these beds--folks they are NOT WORTH IT! PS: the problem with my bed is the chambers will not hold the air. We put it on the setting we want and in a few days the air has gone down. Even if they sent me new chambers, they come in a small box; I would have to inflate (?how) them and on a King Size bed they are huge once inflated, disassemble the bed (zippers padding, foam), put the chambers in the bed, reassemble the bed--it's a lot of hard work. IT TOOK TWO YOUNG MEN TO ASSEMBLE THE BED TO BEGIN WITH (and that's another story, they knocked a TV off of a table with one of the air chambers when they installed the bed and caused over $1, 000 damage to my home), what makes them think that a disabled person could do this alone.

Another twist to this story, they knocked a TV off of a table, tore a hole in the window treatment on the door that the technician fell into with one of the air chambers when they inflated them and caused over $1, 000 (more like $1500) damage to my home---what makes them think that a disabled person could do this alone. Because I had the forsight to get in touch with the District Manager while the technicians were still in my home and because I put it all in writing while they were here and had them sign what they had done, I was able to recover money to replace the window treatment, not the TV as I could not find one like it since it was about 6 years old. They "reluctantly gave me a set of sheets" which are not what they are priced to be (they feel like sandpaper even though they say the thread count is high)

Think twice before spending thousands of dollars on a Sleep Number bed. They get into one of their stores and make you think you are getting this wonderful warranty for 20 years so the price is well worth it. What they don't tell you is that after 2 years everything is pro-rated by the number of years for which you have had your sleep system. On top of that, the service charge for an authorized representative is $160.00. This was a total waste of our money. I would never buy, nor recommend, this company to anyone that is looking to purchase a new mattress.

As above, we also took a two week vacation during the return period, so we weren't able to make a solid decision about returning this bed. From the first night of sleeping on this bed, I wake with a back ache, contrary to what they claim. Before this we slept on a cheap camping air mattress, and never had a problem. I don't know what the problem is, but I do know I'm tired of waking up with a back ache. I know people who love theirs, but it's not working for me!

After promising a 20 year unconditional warranty at time of purchase, I now find out that after 5 years a new pillow top must be purchased to correct the sagging in the mattress. They claim this is normal wear and tear that is not covered under warranty. I see many complaints of this online along with mold concerns with the mattress. Sleep number is obviously not concerned with past customers. Know if a class action suit? Count me in!

I just had the WORST customer service experience that I've had in a very long time. One would think that you're buying a quality product with good service since the Sleep Number Bed has such extensive advertising about their excellent product and warranty. Forget it. The warranty basically does nothing after 2 years when your bed stops inflating and you find yourself sleeping in a puddle of fabric in the middle of the night. Then you call Select Comfort's lovely customer service representatives who give you conflicting advice, tell you that you must wait 2 days before sending in your defective product and, the best part, that you have to pay hundreds of dollars to have it fixed. Oh, and if you send in the wrong broken piece of the bed, the charge you 100% and you get to have more conversations with the rudest customer service representatives in the U.S. They make the Post Office feel like the Ritz. So, think twice before you buy one of these beds. You'll be married to these jerks for years to come. And you get to sleep on a glorified air mattress... awesome.

My wife and I purchased the queen-sized 5000 (I believe) with the dual-chambers just about a year ago. Both of us now have been battling sleepless nights on some occasions; but, mostly waking up with sore backs, necks, and shoulders. I've never had so many problems with my neck and back as I do now. I work out on a regular basis with core-strengthening exercises (back & stomach) and I still battle with unexplained soreness. We go to bed feeling fine and wake up feeling like a truck hit us! How do you explain that? We've tried all sorts of different pillows.

We have been seriously questioning the claims made by Select Comfort and are beginning to kick ourselves over the investment we made on this bed (about $2, 500). Not only did we rely on Select Comfort's testimonials (shame on us!), we also relied on neighbors who actually own a Sleep Number bed. I don't know how long our neighbors have owned their bed; but, probably not long. It only makes sense from what I've read in other complaints that once you 'find your sleep number, you set it and forget it'. Baloney! I'm still trying to find my sleep number! I've also question the operation of the compressor system. I've noticed many times when trying dial down the number, the compressor barely releases any air and then turns on for more air!? And the same goes for dialing up; we've noticed that the compressor sometimes actually releases more air than pumping it in the mattress. The mattress now has our body impressions where we both sleep and the idea of the multiple air chambers fitting the contour of your bodies thus relieving pressure points is a bunch of crap.

Don't waste your time or money on the Select Comfort Sleep Number Dual Chamber BED! We've had problems with our bed since the day of purchase. We complained immediately for them to send a "new foam insert". They sent a flimsy one inch piece of the cheapest lowest quality foam rubber I've ever seen. The foam rubber used in packaging items for shipping is better than what they sent us. Within two months it had gone completely flat. The result is THE ENTIRE CENTER OF THE BED IS A DEEP ABYSS with no way out in sight.

The entire center of the bed looks like a sink hole. Nothing we have done has helped. Their customer service people are very snicky. BE WARNED! They said the new insert would fix the problem. We believed them. By the time the insert arrived, the return warranty had expired. NOW WE ARE STUCK WITH THIS HORRIBLE $3, 000 BED!

Out of the generosity of their hearts, the company offered to allow us to PURCHASE a single chamber mattress. The cost for the single chamber was $300 with shipping. Then they told us we'd have to purchase another pump because the "hose connections won't fit" -- another $300.

To sum it up, THEIR WARRANTY is not a warranty at all. You purchase a fine quality bed but they replace the parts with seriously inferior parts that don't fit and don't offer the same support.
Don't waste your money. The inexpensive airbeds at Cosco are better! We wound up rolling the Select Comfort into a box where it sits today. We paid another $400 at Cosco and got a really nice adjustable airbed. AND IT WAS $2, 600 LESS.

Hey folks. I'm 47 and my wife is 40. Our Sealy wore out after two years. I don't think we are overweight as I"m 235 and as she's 170 but she looks great. I bought into the celebrity hype and jumped at the purchase of a Select Comfort dual chamber 3000 with the handheld control over a year ago. It's not the most lavish bed offered but it agreed with our budget. I'm going to start by saying that the rubiks cube like plastic rail system was a confusing puzzle that should have warned me about what was to come. I called customer service, whose help was below average, so I ignored my frustration mostly because I couldn't wait to finally enjoy a painfree and invigorating nights sleep. To no avail. Our lower-back and shoulder pain was almost immediate. We both use the Bean (like an excerise ball) to excerise our backs and tummys and still we awaken in pain. We blamed ourselves and reasoned that we were just not fit (stomach strong) or that our sleep number was just off a bit. Now winter is here in good old Indiana and we enjoy snuggling and sleeping in a cool room (55-60 degrees). We set our sleep numbers at 55-65psi and when we get up both air chambers have ballooned to 95-100psi. GETMO could use this strategy. It's been 14-15 months now and we are still in search of our sleep number. We're saving for a traditional bed without any whistles or celebrity bells. I hope I was able to help. Lou K.

We bought a Select Comfort bed with a 6 month deferred interest offer. If you pay on or before the 6 month period, then there's no interest. The creditor for Select Comfort is GE Money Bank. We sent them payment in full two weeks before the due date (the due date was 4/13/7 and we sent it on 4/1/7) - also, the mailing address was in the same state! Shouldn't be a problem - right? Well, GE said they received payment on 4/19/07. A GE representative told me "there's nothing we can do". The interest rate is nearly 25%. What a SCAM... just say "we didn't receive payment on time" and you're good to make 25%.

If you ever "sign up" for this type of deal, protect your self. Pay a month before the due date or send the check certified mail.

I had a similar problem with a bed only 2 years old. I went to the local showroom where I had purchased the bed. The sales person told me I had to call their customer service dept and handed me a card with the phone number on it. I called the number while standing in the showroom making the sales person extremely uncomfortable. The customer service rep I spoke with tried to give me the same run around. I made it very clear to this person where I was standing as we spoke. Suddenly I was transfered to a supervisor and promptly given an RMA# as reference and within a week I received a replacment pillow top at no charge and was furnished pre-paid return instructions.

Having to repair their problems myself did not make me feel any better but at least I got this replaced with only some minor aggrevation. Sadly, this is where American business has fallen. The word "service" is foreign it has little or no meaning to the corporate heads.

Sleep Number bad pump & crushed side rail

We purchased a Select Comfort Queen 5000 3 years ago. We spent over $2000. The bed was making a squeaking noise. Upon inspection, the side rail was crushed at the corner at the head of the bed. They considered this a bed defect. To replace it is $42. The pump went out and to replace it- $126. The warrenty is pro rated. A bed costing over $2000 should last longer than 3 years. At the time, we also purchased 2 - 3000 full size beds and a 3000 twin. Would never recommend this bed/company.

Sleep Number advertisement is a scam

Purchased approximately $2000 King size bed from Select Comfort in January of 2009. Cannot get mattress to stay properly inflated and bed shows depressions caused by the body on either side. Cannot get the hard center line out of the mattress. Have installed lifts under the air chambers to no avail. Numerous complaints to Customer Service and have elevated to managers(at least that is what I have been told) with no resolution for the problem. I consider the advertisement to be not truthful and that the warranty is usless. I am a very unhappy client. Someone in Select Comfort needs to contact me and resolve this situation now!

Sleep Number led numbers on sending unit for pump

LETTER TO BE SENT TO SELECT COMFORT

We bought our Sleep Number bed( Expanded Queen with two sending units to the pump) in April 2005. Several of my friends bought beds too, and they also are very happy. The bed has been a godsend for our sleep. In October of 2007, we noticed the LCD on both number sending units (as did my friends) was only showing part of the numbers. Thankfully that unit was recalled for all of us and you all replaced them.

Last week, May 7th, we noticed the LCD on the replaced unit (one sending unit only) was again fading and only showing part of the numbers. It is very hard to believe that for such an awesome product that these parts are failing again. Will you please explain why?

Please help me get this rectified. I called your customer care folks – who were very nice but we were not satisfied that they said that this warranty on this pump unit we got in October 2007 reverted back to the original date the bed was bought. Parts replaced on our car or for our washing machine are given warranty from the date it was replaced. We also were told if we purchase a new pump unit with the now remote number senders, it will have a 30 day warranty. Our concern is this unit will also start to fail.

I completely agree, I am on my second remote, and that is also fading its LCD display, and Sleep number will not cover it fully. This is a serious problem, and I am not sure what causes the issue, as the remotes are not used that often.

Sleep Number can't sleep; pain

My parents bought themselves, and me, sleep number beds a couple years ago. Their's has a thick pillow top, mine does not.
I have held my complaints in because I dodn't want to seem ungrateful. But, I lose more and more sleep, and wake up in more and more pain. I have to let it out.
I have the Queen Size, 3000 model. There is minimal padding between you and the air chaimbers, therefore if your 'sleep number' is l0w because you like a soft matress, the heaviest parts of your body rest on the plastic 'box spring.' It causes uneccessary pain on your hips and lower back. The same thing occurs if you raise the 'sleep number, ' because then it is too firm and putting pressure where you don't need any.
Although the pain starts at the lower back, it rises to the shoulders and neck before long.
At first, I was going to try and order a pillow top to solve my issues (since my fols have one and don't complain) but the Select Comfort Reps told me it would cost $700, because the pillow top can't be sold seperately, meaning you have to buy the whole shell.
Forget that noise. I can get a great whole matress for that kind of cash and sleep like a baby.
Also, you tend to rolls towards the middle of the bed, which provokes more discomfort if sleeping with a partner.
Please don't be fooled, guys. You can go out and spend $50 on a regular air matress and be more comfortable than you can on the Sleep Number.

I PURCHASED A SLEEP NUMBER BED AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NOT TO BAD, BUT WE HAD A POWER SURGE AND NOW I CANT SEE THE NUMBERS ON MY CONTROL AND THEY SAY THAT I HAVE TO BUY A NEW ONE FOR 300.00. I CAN SEE THE LINES ON THE CONTROL BUT THERE ARE NO NUMBERS AND THEY DONT THINK THAT THE PART IS DEFECTIVE. WE HAD A GOOD MATTRESS AND BOX SPRING BEFORE I BOUGHT THIS BED AND I THINK THAT I WOULD HAVE DONE BETTER WITH MY OLD SET AND NOT COST ME 1500.00 DOLLARS. I HAVE SEVERE BAD PROBLEMS AND THIS BED IS NOT WORKING FOR ME.

Sleep Number worst bed on the market

I purchase this product to replace a water bed. I wanted the flexibility that the sleep number system should give.

About 24 months after purchasing the product the bottom literaly fell out of the bed. Once entire side had ripped loose. I called Select Comfort and that used the warantee to replace the under cover with a small charge.

Now another 18 mnoths has gone by and the top zipper has broken as well as the bottom being torn out again. The bed is now held together with good old duct tape. (picture attached).

You might ask how this happened. I do not have the bed in a full frame, just on a support sold to me by the dealer. This support can allows the mattress to slide. Moving the mattress back onto the frame

In short, to use this system does require a Hollywood type frame, or a water bed frame.

Sleep Number bed sucks cant sleep

my husband and i purchased this miserable bed because he had lumbar fusion surgery and thought if he could adjust the mattress he could sleep alittle better. i have never had a more miserable nights sleep in my life.we have had this bed for 2 years and i havent had a good nights sleep on it since the second night we had it. i wake up with my arms numb my neck is constantly pinched. my husband can bearly even sleep and is up all night because he is miserable in this thing. the bed looks like two hammocks side by side and we have to sleep with pillows in between us because it feels ike im going to roll on over on him all the time. there is no support in the middle of the bed between us so we feel like we are both rolling into eachother.we are buying a new bed because i need to sleep and so does he.the worse part of this whole thing is that we talked my inlaws into buying this crap at the same time as us and they both have the same problems and now we are going to buy them a new bed too.i wouldnt even recommend this bed to my worst enemy.i dont know why someone hasnt start a class action suit against this company because i think we all deserve something back for our pain and suffering.

Verty cheaply made - customer service is horrible - lumps in "comfort pad" - remote is faulty - air pump doesn't work - can't get sleep number to call me back. Really folks? This is an overpriced air mattress - you can have it back

Luckily for us, we were GIVEN the sleep number bed. In an effort to "pay it forward" we gladly gave our tempurpedic mattress to someone in need of a good mattress... I wish so much that we had the old mattress back and never agreed to take this one. It's nothing short of two undersized inflatable camping mattresses in a zip up pocket designed to look like a mattress. One thing that did help a little bit was to get a tempurpedic foam topper and actually stick it directly on top of the air chambers, inside the zip up bed part. This helped with feeling less detail of the crappy engineering that lay beneath the bed top. It also helped warm things up a bit... that's something else with this mattress, b/c it's 80% air, it does not build up any heat of any kind. The tempurpedic is opposite. I actually got way too hot with it b/c it just stores heat like crazy. I'd rather that than though then feel like I'm camping in the woods every night of the week. Next bed I get will be totally middle of the road to cheap mattress with an inch thick tempurpedic topper (at the recommendation of my Chiropractor). BTW, he said that 90% of these $2k mattresses (and up) are total gimmicks. A combination of daily excercize, stretching and a completely generic mattress is all you need to be happy. I'm finding that he's right.

I agree whole heartedly the bed sucks. It causes worse body aches than I'd ever imagined & my husband as well. We also are dealing with the GE money bank and would like suggestions on dealing with them. These people are relentless and do not care that they sold us a useless product. Their late & finance fee's are through the roof. We now owe more on the bed than we did 3 years ago when we purchased it. Imagine that! At this rate we will NEVER get this piece of crap paid off and it to is ruining our credit not to mention the countless harrassing phone calls every day of the week. I refused to pay in the beginning because they would not take the bed back but then a couple of years ago figured we're stuck!

This should be illegal what can we do to give them back this bed and make this debt & pain in our --- go away for good?

We have had our sleep number bed for 3 or 4 years now, and I hate it too! The weird part is that I liked it for the first year or two, I have back, neck and hip problems and I actually slept well on it -- and it worked very well during preganancy since I could adjust it all the time to get comfortable. But almost a year ago I started hurting every morning when I wake up, at first it was just soreness, then it became numbness in my arms -- just like the previous entry! I even had an MRI a few months ago because my doctor was worried that something was seriously wrong...but nothing was found. I have been in physical therapy for a couple of months now and we're actually thinking about a Tempurpedic...but it makes me sick to think of the money we spent on that piece of crap (I think it was $3600) and having to pay high dollar for another bed!

I'm curious to know how many other people have had the issue with numbness and worsening pain...they need to stop making this awful bed!

I am so sorry you have experienced the same exact problems! As we have the dual King bed as well, now sitting in the garage, they will not take the bed back, as we attempted to do; they refuse acceptance of their own product?
No one even has us in their system for the actual puchase, therfore we now have the GE Finance Company constantly demanding payment on something that can't even be returned? Do you recommend anything to help us with this Financial center as they have put an high interest rate on us & they sent us a letter demanding payment but also "they said we have never contacted them about any of this? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated! I have bought a "new" bed for my "fusions "from the neck down and the best to buy for this is the temperpedic! I am finally sleeping through the night also the pillows as this is a blessing and you will be happy...and "sleep"! Handling the finance company...what do you recommend as this is going to ruin our impecable credit? God Bless and hope to hear from you! From Flroida, D & G!

Sleep Number bad product

My husband is terminally ill with cancer and I purchased this bed so he could hopefully have ultimate comfort during his struggle--it was a bad-expensive idea.

They "reluctantly gave me a set of sheets" which are not what they are priced to be (they feel like sandpaper even though they say the thread count is high).

Sleep Number the stores and parts

i've been to several stores and none of them carry any replacement parts. first i have been having problems with one matress and the air pump. also the side supports are breaking down and starting to sag. i was going to at one time buy a new pillow top because the one i got i don't find all that comfortable. but as i can't find not one store that carries the tops . and with all the other parts breaking down im very disappointed. i was in florida when i first saw the sleep number bed. thought it was great and would help on my bad back. when the bed was of better quality and working right it was good. but now i dont find it all good, as i dont feel it is working up to what i had first bought. oh and by the way the remote doesn't work that great either (some times it does and some time it doesn't) sign disappointed in new hampshire

Sleep Number can't sleep can't return it!

We bought a $3000 Sleep Number bed and it's no better than out 10 year old Sealey Posturepedic. I read on their website to try it for 30 days then you have 15 days to return it. So we try it and within a week we aren't sleeping any better, actually we're sleeping worse! So 3 weeks in I call but they're closed on Sundays. Now the website say I have 15 days after the 30 days to call them for return so I give it another week. I call again and this time they're closed due to bad weather. I call a few day later and finally get some one on the phone. He says you needed to call on Monday and it's Saturday so they won't take it back! I said but the website said 45 days! Thats' the new policy, you bought it under the old policy I had to call within the 30 days, You bought it 1 day before the new policy started. Now keep in mind they don't delivery my bed for another 13 days, 12 days after the new policy kicks in. So I ask to speak to a supervisor, the guy says " I the highest person working today, there is no supervisor on duty. I tell Him I'll call back and talk to a supervisor on Monday. I'm so angry by now that I decide to try a different 800 number (remember I spent $3000 on this thing I expect better service than this). I get through and ask if a supervisor is on duty, this guy says yes one moment. A guy named John comes on and says he a supervisor can he help me. He says he'll take it back do I want to spend $199 to have them pick it up or ship it to them myself? I decide to pay the $200 to get it over with and he puts me on hold. Long story short he comes back online and says "you've had it more then 30 days and he won't take it back. What a jerk!
I hang up, call my credit card company and file a dispute. Never never buy from Select Comfort, once they got your money, they won't give it back.

Sleep Number poor quality

I purchased Sleep Number bed 4 years ago and have been sleeping in a hole for the past two years.

The king size mattress sags in the middle where the two air mattresses come together. There is a foam pad that is 2" thick that is between the mattresses.

I called customer service and they wanted to send me a "riser" for the middle of the bed. Are you kidding me!

After two years, a mattress should not sag in the middle.

I wake up struggling to get to the "high" side of the bed, with my back hurting. Their claims for a perfect night sleep is a bunch of bull. I keep reading similar complaints, in fact the exact same problem.

Customer service made it sound like it was my fault because I sleep alone in a king bed. But, I sleep on the right side. I'm only forced in the middle by the sloping inward mattress!

This bed and the warranty sucks! The company's profits must be so high that they don't need to find a solution. Just keep pumping out commercials of how great the product is to drown out the facts: 1) poor quality, 2) not durable, 3) warranty is not sufficient, 4) defects appear after 2 years where no shipping is paid and maybe the customer won't complain.

Nice try.

If anyone has this same problem, email me: [protected]@netscape.com I will gladly join you in a class action suit!

Sleep Number false advertising

I'v had a Sleep Number Bed AKA Select Comfort (why did they change the name of the company?) for almost four years & if I could sell it I would, but it seems no one in this small town wants one as I have advertised it twice and for a very low price. They all must have read this complaint board. You cannot sleep on this bed when one side is adjusted for firm & the other for soft, one partner is going to roll all night or keep a death grip on their side of the bed so they don't.
Also you can't snuggle as there is a very hard separater in the middle of the bed, it's a rip off to say the least...And if I have to watch that Lindsey Wagner on TV spewing garbage lies about how wonderful this bed is just one more time I think I'll pack mine up and send it to her!

I have had a sleep number bed for a little over three years. One side did not hold a steady pressure almost from day one. At about two months old, I called their service dept. and got the basic runaround ( baramatic pressure changes, body temp. changes, etc. ) I was told to keep a sleep log to solve the problem. I gave up with them and just lived with the problem, but for the last year or more I haven"t able to last the night on it. I finally broke down and called them again and was told that it would cost apx. $150.00 for a used part with no warranty.
I was finally transferred to a supervisor with the only identification of (A J) and told me that they fulfilled their part of the contract, (shipping the bed) and I could not send them my beds control head for inspection and or repair because they don't repair them, but they would give me a thirty day warranty on one they refurbished for the $150 with tax and shipping even though the problem may be in the matress. Time for a new bed, and learn from a $2800 mistake instead waisting more money on such a poor product with such poor company support after the sale. Lets all ask Rush L., how its workin out for him now?
