Charity shakedown
I posted this on their fan page, the only postable page that has anything to do with Stater Bros.
Harassment and Extortion at Stater Bros.: Ok you will delete this. Stater Bros must be the only 21st Century company to not have ONE email address. I called corporate, and you cannot email the Chairman of the Board, the President, no one. I suppose one reason might be that they don't need to pay anyone to answer the email, and they also can claim they never received any complaint, as one can always lie about phone calls. I do not enjoy being shaken down, and seeing other customers shaken down to donate to a charity while waiting to pay for their groceries. No, I don't blame the employees, because they are forced to do this. They can even give the spiel in Spanish, so they can extort money from Spanish speakers. No, I have nothing against charity, and wouldn't mind if they had a flier or poster advertising said charity. I very much resent being the unwitting subject of a sales pitch, having no way to escape the harassment if I desire to depart with my groceries. In addition, prior to entering the store, I had no warning that upon entering, I had agreed to hear a sales pitch. This is worse than a solicitor showing up at my door, as I don't have to answer the door. Perhaps they will say I am the only one who has bothered to complain, but I can assure you that a survey of customers would yield 90%+ who feel uncomfortable, embarrased and put on the spot, and would rather not be subject to this invasion of their privacy. Even though it is inconvenient, I will shop elsewhere.

manager
the Manager at the time was A woman named Jennifer and this guy that works there .well in may on a Saturday at 8:35 pm i was walking through the store with my the stuff i was going to buy, and i was in there about 20 min and the manager is standing at on end of the store walking fast towards me saying ma'am you have to leave, sorry but u have to leave by...

I have been a Stater Brothers customer for 25 years, usually go at Alta Loma store on Carnelian and 16th St. this store have the best customer service especially cashiers. Tonight 6/28/12, stopped at Staters La Verne and this cashier name Frank C. looked at me did not say anything, i asked him about the paper towel special and he answer like i was stupid, and I ask who is the manager of the store and he exclaimed " I AM" and i told him his rude and just said sorry for his rudeness. The bag boy was nice and smiling .
prices are too high
My name is Charlene Sutton, and I am really upset, why? because I have 4 kids that are still in school, and your store is the nearest to my home, so therfor we have to shop there or catch a cab or ride to the next nearest store which is Staters Bros. The reason for my letter is to say, your prices are so high, we just cannot afford to shop at your store any longer. I can’t afford your fruits and vegetables, because your prices are way over the prices of other stores. It is a shame that you don’t recognize this in your compairing of other store prices.
For instant your cherries are $4.95 a lb(highest in city) no othher store in Orange County, cherries even come near that price. Jon’s Store cherries is 59 cents a lb, and I looked at your pork chops..$11.79 for 3 dingie pork chops in a package..This is just 2 points I am making, and I see why your store is always empty with customers..Don’t you realized that customers watch food prices too? I really don’t know how you could possible stay in business..You have the highest prices than any grocery store in OC.
I was in your store for 30 min. checking out the DVD’s on the Redbox machine, and not one customer came into the store while I was in there. Your prices tells the reason why.
She mentions Orange County, and I know Stater Bros is a Cali based store, so I'm guess she lives in Orange County, CA, which is probably one of the most affluent parts of southern California. I remember when I lived in Redlands, CA and shopped at Vons. Their prices were higher than the Vons where my folks live. I agree with cchuckles, demographics play a key role in pricing.
Misrepresentation
March 4, 2011 I had stopped at Stater Bros. Market for a few items of food.
While shopping I noticed Bar S Hot Dogs with a price tag of $0.75 cents for Meat Bar S Hot Dogs directly in front of the Hot Dogs.
The tag simply said meat Hot Dogs. When checking out the cashier rang up over $2.00 for each package.
I mentioned that the price tag has a price of $0.75. The cashier said that is for meat franks and I said those are meat franks. The cashier said no! everyone knows that meat franks means chicken and pork! I simply relied that I did not know that, meat to me means beef. Beef is meat and she said no it is not. I said that the price tag did not specify (Chicken & Pork). She was very upset, than she pointed to the ad on the large window. I asked the people behind me to please excuse me for holding them up and one man said he understood and mentioned that meat to him meant beef also. Than I asked the cashier to please check the tag. Than she and the box girl went to get the tag. Upon returning the cashier very rudely stuck the price tag in my face and said see it says meat! . I said yes but it does not say Chicken & Pork only. Than she handed the tag to the box girl and she began to right down Chicken & Pork under the meat. Than she told the box girl no we cannot use that tag. She refused to sell me the Hot dogs for the advertised price located at the front of the product. At this time I told her that I did not want the Hot Dogs. Again she mentioned very loudly, that everyone knows Meat mean Chicken & Pork!. I replied I would remember this in the future. I felt insulted an I had been treated as though I were stupid. I have shopped at Stater Bros. for years and never have I been treated like this. I will make it a point not to shop there again.

I shop at Stater Bros. And I stopper at Alta Loma Staters, I bought a few items, so I went through express line, well the checker Sara D., I could not even understand her! She was so unfriendly! Why would such a great company like Staters hire such a person? Unfriendly because I can't understand her? Well I speaka English! I'm not a racial person but she was ridiculous! I would never shop there! Unless you are Hispanic! And can understand RUDE! She glared at me the whole time because I said "excuse me?" I guess she tried to mumble paper or plastica! I couldn't understand her so she threw my groceries in the bag all mad, breaking my pretzels I was going to go back after getting home, but was so upset I just threw them away!
I bought three phone cards at the Stater Brothers market on Kendal ave. in the Shandin Hiils shopping center on Thur. April 11. When I got home I descovered two of the phone cards didn't have pin numbers -to get the minutes on my phone I have to scratch off the area where the pin number was suppose to be-but -there was no pin number on two of the cards. I paid $20 a peace for these cards and I had the reciept, so I went back to the same store on April 12 to see if i could exchange the ones without pin numbers for ones that did have pin numbers. The manager -very rudely-yelled "Once the cards are sold, they are not my problem any more." She refused to give me anything -no store credit on refund-nothing. I was so pissed-I had just been ripped off for $40-I cussed her out and walked out of the store-I will never go back -but I want my $40 back. Stater Brothers ripped of for $40 and that ### of a manager should have to pay me back out her own pocket-I really wonder why a company like Stater Brothers -they are suppose to be such a friendly company -why would they cheat a person and call that business. I want my money back ! Charlene Jones
i would like to know why bar s franks spark like there is metal in them when heated in the microwave oven?
Meat can be any number of sources. Beef is stated as "All beef" on the package where it applies. BTW, I just got done eating the Bar-S chicken/pork/beef jumbo hot dogs and they were TERRIBLE! Absolutely the softest, mealiest hot dog with absolutely no snap in the skin. Luckily it was only a four pack. The other two will go in the trash- yech!... I should have known...
I will take it an additional step...Halil meat.. (Muslim) is also a treat to eat. Similar guidelines to Kosher without the super-stringent kitchen cleanliness requirements and blessing of china and flatware.
Kosher describes the preparation of said product. I want to be PC...practicing Kosher Jews...Kosher encompasses every aspect of a food product from containment to slaughter to preparation. Celestestar, how old are you...if you don't mind me asking? Even the pink and blue sweeteners are Kosher. Pareve listed on any product means that it has been prepared to Kosher standards. NO...I was reared Presbyterian.
Always trust the kosher meat. Seriously, the cleanliness required to achieve kosher status (especially on a national supplier level) always surpasses the requirements of local health departments. Kosher meat is the best kind of meat to put in your mouth.
Exactly! Who wants to put a .09375 wiener in their mouth ? (I am basing my assumption on an 8 ct pack.)
I agree that the term "meat" could mean any number of animal products. The thing that I find disturbing is a package of hotdogs for 75 cents. The trip to the emergency room after consuming them would more than negate the four dollar savings.
rude & disrespectful stater brothers employees
I've been a regular stater brothers customer for about 9 years, I stopped shopping there recently because I got tired of being treated rudely and disrespectfully by stater brothers employees.
I may be shy and have trouble talking to people, but I don't think I deserve to be made fun of behind my back and treated rudely to my face, and this would happen everytime I went there, I would never lodge a formal complaint because I'd be too embarrassed, I guess it dosent matter anyway since I shop at Vons now and wont ever go back to starer bros.

I was falsely detained and ordered back in the store for shoplifting---when the cashier verified that I HAD paid for my groceries, I received NO apology or compensation. (*WHY DO YOU REQUIRE A MINIUM OF 100 WORDS/? I have said all I want to say.
Meat
I have purchased 2 trays of chicken on 2/16/2011 packaged by Stater Bros. The same day (today) I opened one of them, when I cut the plastic wrap the meat was STINKING, had a putrid smell, It made me sick, I turned over one of the chicken pieces it was GREEN. I went back to return the chicken, they take for ever to give your money back, I think they do it...

I was treated so rudely by a cashier named Kathy A that even the customers in line with me were appalled. She clearly had charged me incorrectly for many items (10 total) as she was not aware of the sale pricing (buy 10 specific Kraft products and get $5.00 off). I followed the ad correctly and when I questioned her about the lack of discount she became aggressive and told me it was my fault. The manager came over and verified that I had purchased correctly but did not address her behavior. One of the customers in line even said "She always acts like that!" Now, my point is that Stater Bros. customer service has been falling in many areas the last few years as the store staff has become saturated with hispanics. I am not racist, but being caucasion has had it's challenges. I have noticed that the hispanic staff does not pay attention to detail, like getting my order charged correctly, and I am, increasingly, being discriminated against through the staff's rude behavior. I am not overly sensitive. I'm a quiet and mannerly woman. This is blatent. I suppose 'white flight' would be a solution but I have lived and shopped in this area for 22 years and am saddened by what has become of my Stater Bros.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Rude and unfriendly staff at the Corona, store # 62, Stater bros. Unless you are white, store clerks simply ignore you or offer to help you find anything. Forget about getting any help in the produce department! They are always too busy gossiping with one another to pay any attention to a customer requiring assistance. There is only one cashier that is friendly and courteous, the rest can do with a lot more training in that department. In general, an overpriced and racist store!
The staters in riverside on Blaine has so many thefts cops there so much everyday they need a sub station there. The other day I notice packages of diapers ripped and marked in permanent marker on the package. The cashier proceeds to ring them up but I had to get a coupon I forgot in the car so I ask her to hold the items I'll be right back. When I get back she states that she will not be able to sell them and that the manager would like to speak to me. Upon speaking to the manager he says that any clearance purchases the price will not be honored for me. This store has a serious theft problem clearly. An hour later my grandmother and 6 year old go to pick up noodles for dinner and the cashier Tim ripped the change out of my sons hand even after being told that he was with my grandmother. Smh.. is no one safe from staters harassment. To my knowledge the store on Blaine is the only one I've seen with a security guard 24/7. Maybe they should use those brought orange stickers they use on the marked down bread and meat for other items they mark down. Also I agree with the person about staff getting first pick I've seen it first hand with cashiers at this store with boxes full of beer bud light not like the never heard of brand name they leave for the customers that pay their salary. I will be going back to Ralph's they are cheaper than staters go figure
I used to be able to get good clearance mark downs. All kinds of stuff that was damaged or dented would be marked down to about 50% off. I especially did well on dog and cat food. Not anymore though. More than once I have seen the employees purchasing the marked downs. I think they let the employees cherry pick the best items first and then they let the customers have the remaining items. They also are not consistent with the time they place the mark downs out for the customer. They tell you the stuff will be out by 9am but it never is. Sometimes they say 11 am but it never is. You get a different story from managers every time. The two stores I am referring to are in Beaumont Ca.
Store #42 in Riverside, Ca on Arlington isn't any better.
The store was recently remodeled and why they wasted the money I can't figure. First, Staters' policy of making you purchase so many of an item to get a sale price has got to go. If I want that much I'll go to Costco. I just pass up those items at Staters and don't buy any.
I also witnessed a clerk bring a bag of deli chicken strips in a bag that he found disgarded in an isle. I heard him tell the deli clerk where he found it an that the bag didn't look like itr had been opened. She asked the other deli clerk if she should just throw it away because of the circumstances. The other clerk told her, 'no, just put it back in with the others', and she did! Pretty discusting! Who knows how long it had been there or what was done to it. And, isn't that ahaint health code?
A really annoying practice at Store 42 is the continuous practice of the employees communicating on the intercom in loud, unintelligible broadcasts the entire time I'm in the store..every time!
Shopping at Staters is no longer worth the savings vs the aggervation.
Get some management that wants to manage.
i also shop at my local stator bros located on Benton Road. i never go to the female cashiers, i know this is hard, but they expect me to bag and put my purchases in my own cart. the male cashiers have no problem. but for some reason the female cashiers feel that bagging items and placing them in my cart is not part of their job description. how weird is that. if i wanted to bag my own items i would go to the local Winco store located on Winchester and margarita. Winco gives the same service, less cost for groceries, and i know that i am expected to bag my own items.
also the meat cutters don't put on gloves when handling my meat purchases. haven't they noticed the meat packaged in the cooler. i don't have to shop here and i am so much happier.
Current employee: Im sorry to hear this wow. :(

Bad service
Not only do they have absolutely awful meat dept people, they sell meat with flies in the meat case and many times the meat I buy is bad in two days OR LESS. Of all the stores I've shopped at, Stater Bors seems to have mostly racist wetbacks(illegal aliens from that "country" south of us (is that a country or a big garbage heap of loosers)?
For what it's worth, I'm sending a letter to the health department with photos I took of flies in the meat case ...
Wish we could just close down Stater Bros just based on the racist attitude of their employees - let alone the ###ign lousy meat with flies they sell and the very inept mexcians that work the dept.

So, on November 14, 2023 I tried to redeem this Robux card, and it kept on saying a error and we've tried and it still is useless. I would want either my money back or a working Robux card.

Hello, I live in victorville ca and shop in the stater bros market on bear valley rd, evertime I buy fresh fruit from there as soon as I get home to eat it, it is really rotten inside, it's just unbelievable that lately it's been that way at your stores, so far I wasted about $12 worth of fruit from you guys, very not satisfied with this.
Did not get two items that were payed for over phone they told me cashier rang them up not disputing that but were not in bags that I received basically told me sorry for your loss I've been shopping at your stores since I was in high school 40yrs ago
Not trying to burn you fir 9.00 worth of food but I live on 7.00 a day after. Rent can't afford
Bought Cherries @ $3.99 lb. Over $9 I bought. Most of them were bad, soft, like pin impressions on them.

You spell like a 4 year old and have horrible grammer. Yet, you’re downing other people. You also said “ racist wetbacks”? Does your child mind even realize the hypocrisy in that ? Knowledge is power, please get an education...
When the frozen peas and carrots are heated in the microwave the frozen carrots start to spark as if they co rain traces of metal . This concerns me. Need to know why this is happening.
Today it took me 30 minutes at 6:30 p.m. to pick up an item that required 1 minute to find because there were two cashiers and long lines. No line for people with one item. The people in line said that this has recently been true all of the time. Everyone was upset. Also my husband said that he waited 15 minutes yesterday morning when he picked up some items to take to work. The staff worked hard and were friendly but it is obvious that they were overwhelmed. There are many stores nearby (Tustin and Santa Clara, Santa Ana) and we will give this store one more time... It is a shame because it is a great store. Also their internet site does not allow emails for "customer service." They must not want to know. So long Stater Brothers. Save pennies and lose dollars.
They had an ad today saying lay chips 1.99 per pag normal prioce 3.99. yet when you get to the check out stand they say you have to buy three to get that. I have noticed thay do that a lot now and they not one thing that said where the product was shelved that you had to buy three. Then look out for there big sales on perisable good. Most of the time the experation date is already passed.
Then there pussing there our prand name. Make sure you read the ingreadance. not good they leave out some of the main ingreadance that in the other brands.
Stater Brothers Grocery store, Cypress CA. As we were about to eat our food from the deli at home, we found feathers inside the chicken's meat. We were able to pull them straight out, 4 of them. On their fried chicken. Service is always good, but their food is not what we were hoping. They always run out of food, so if one day you go into that store's deli and ask for salad, chicken, fried potatoes, etc... don't get surprised when they tell you that they are out of them, what a way to manage inventory at that store.
unfair to workers
You think that because clearks help you out all the time they are being treated right by management but if you only knew what most of the workers go trough. For a Manager to tell them that they can do a better job then you i think is very unfair. To request days off only to work that day. And workers working till 9pm to have them come back at 4am. Even sometimes they have them working off the clock. By law they cant do that. can you belive it? Next time you go to Stater Bros just think how much they go through before you yell at them.
Sad. Im not shoping their till it gets fixed

flies in my meat
This store has the most disgusting meat you can ever buy. I can't understand how anybody can review this store nicely. You do not need to speak or read English to understand flies in the meat or food expired for a year or so. Like any regular client I buy my meat, I get home and I look at it. I find something wrong, like FLIES, I loose my appetite and I drive down the street, to my neighborhood store. First thing I do, is go back to the meat counter, and courteously interrupt the butcher from his important work, which he was performing with no gloves, and to my dismay, fresh chunks of meat on his wrist watch. With confusion, he calls someone, that someone calls someone else, and eventually a poor guy gets chosen from the bunch to talk to me. Now what I was expecting is someone to look distressed and check the problem with me. NO, that wasn't the case, he said a blatant "Ok, well yesterday we had window problems/repairs, whatever ", threw the wrapped, uninspected meat, back to the other guy behind the counter, and offered me the option to buy either another pound of meat, magically uninfested, or just get my money back. Annoying, especially when the cashier writes in the reason for returning the meat as " UNSATISFIED", right, I'm sorry, I will consider including flies in my menu next time.
This place is messy, dirty, customer service is crap, and no one seems to care, especially the managers. Yes, I will go somewhere else, I WILL NEVER BE BACK HERE AGAIN, or whoever else I know. And please, whoever posts, don't put any happy posts, out of town junk. unless you're blind, deaf, no sense of smell, you eat out of a tube, you WILL have a complain about this joke of a store.
... I am currently praying for whoever bought the other batch of meat ...
rotten meat
I purchased some meat last week and when I opened up the package, I smelled horrible. The date on the meat was still within the expiration date. I returned the package and while I was there waiting for my refund I saw a roach. I brought it to the managers attention and he did not know what to say. From my understanding several other customers have complained about the same issue and still nothing has been done. My husband ending up getting sick and no one from the store has called us yet to see how we were doing. I advise anyone that shops at this market think twice before buying any products from the location of west covina, cross streets are: amar/valinda store # 54

Contaminated wet cat food
I have fed my Cats Stater's Brand Canned Catfood for years. The last few weeks my cats have been unable to eat any of it!! Plus the stray cats and possums outside are not eating it either!! I tried adding another brand catfood to the Staters canned catfood and "Still" none of the animals are eating it!! My Cats were starving and getting thin so I am now...

In July 2008 I bought a watermelon that was supposed to be 19 cents a pound, it wasn't until after we got home and put everything away, that I noticed that my 17 pound watermelon cost me $30, I didn't do anything about it at the time, we had already cut it up, and recently I bought three small tomatoes that didn't even equal a pound all together and I was charged $2.39 for EACH tomato! We've been noticing this a lot more lately, Prices are already high, and now all of these cashiers are making mistakes, that may seem small at the time, but all together.. these are some huge mistakes. It's usually with the fresh fruits and veggies, we've had to cut back a lot already, now I am forced to stand in the check out and have them print out the receipt before I pay, so I can make sure they're are not major errors. I'm sure it's not just this Staters in my home town that has been doing this, most of them all over Southern California have been making major mistakes when you are ready to check out.
First of all... if you pay 30 bucks for a watermelon thats only 19 cents a pound... you take the reciept back and get your money back. No one would just let that go! Tomatos are sold by the pound so there isn't any way that you paid 2.39 each for them. The checker has to input a code for both these items of produce in order to determine the price... so the only mistake would have been if she had put in the wrong code. Then the item would have come up on the reciept as something different. Most of all... any reputable grocery store (staters, vons, food 4 less, etc) guarantees their products and offers refunds and exchanges and are always willing to fix their mistakes. So don't let it go next time and take your reciept or even your cut up watermelon back and get a refund. They will be happy to do it. Human error is bound to happen, sometimes it is even the customer who misreads prices or sale dates...
When you bring in other stores, that you do not even shop at into a complaint your just avoiding logic to propagate your anger. I stumbled across this site just right now, but I'm pretty sure it's purpose is to complain about things you've experienced. Though your assumption is probably 100% true that their is human error at Stater Brothers, that probably pertains to more than Stater Brothers seeing as how every human makes mistakes and theirs quite a few working at stores these days. For that very reason almost every grocery store in America allows you to come back in to cite their error and fix it for you, often without the conveyance even being with you. Obviously your not to upset with their service seeing as how your going back to them when their is probably a Albertson's 2 blocks away.
