Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org txtag billing

I changed vehicles at the end of 2016 and notified TxTag of this change. The change did not get into their system and a number of tolls were charged against my new vehicle as no-tag tolls. On February 21, 2017, I went into the TxTag office in Round Rock to get the tag corrected for my vehicle and pay the outstanding toll charges. I paid $105.71 by check number 1381. I was told at this time that all outstanding charges had been paid and to ignore any additional bills, since it would take TxTag's system several cycles to reflect these debits. I also received another TxTag for my new vehicle and added $20 to the rolling balance, as required. I did receive other bills, but assumed they would be corrected as I was told by their representative. On August 7, 2017, I received a collection letter from their attorney that I now owe $316.50 and the account was in collections.

I have made several calls to their customer service lines, but get the same run-around every time that nothing can be done about the situation. I also asked to speak to a supervisor, but am still waiting on a call back. This behavior seems to be consistent with what others have experienced with TxTag. I want this situation corrected so that the collection letter is recalled and my account is fully credited as was originally explained to me by TxTag.

I have filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office and intend to pursue it to whatever extent is required to get the matter satisfactorily resolved.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org overcharge/ unauthorized violation fees and horrible customer service

I have so many issues with TxTag I dont even know where to begin. First, my daughter and husbands accounts were switched so even though she had a tag, they gave her a violation fee for several tolls she went through. Then when trying to dispute it I paid off the balance after fees were waved but they didn't record it in the system and said it wasnt paid. My cc also didnt record it so Im not sure why it didnt go through, but I didnt get a notice that there was still a balance. So without sending me a single further bill, they sent it to collections. A $5 toll charge turned into a $230 fee from collections. The collections agency keep referring me back to TxTag, but every time I call they give me the run around, say that there is no supervisor available and that someone will call me back but they never do. I even asked them to check the previous call log to see that I gave my credit card to pay the balance but that was 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything. I just called to check on the status and got the another rude customer service agent (Leonor), who said the same thing they said last time. I need this resolved asap as its been a huge stress and waste of time when nobody is helping and they keep leaving it to me to call back only to receive the same answers as before. Meanwhile the collection bill keeps creeping up, so its starting to feel like a scam. Its not professional to have a process so anti- customer service and send things to collections without even a final notice or a bill saying what is owed in the first place. Im requesting the entire account be wiped out and balance set to zero as it should be.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org tx tag collections

I'm not from Texas. I have no idea how the toll road system works or is administrated. I was (incorrectly) given to understand that Oklahoma's Pikepass operated on Texas roads. I've since learned my error. Apparently my family violated a toll while on vacation and owed $3.45 in fines. I paid it when I finally realized it was our personal bill and not a bill that was related to my husband's work travel. AFTER I paid the overdue toll I received a bill from a collection agency for $169! I was turned over to a collection agency AFTER I paid the bill? THE PAPER STATEMENT I WAS MAILED REGARDING THE ORIGINAL TOLL DID NOT MENTION THE EXORBITANT COLLECTION FEES. That detail was conveniently left off, allowing it to mount so that the TX government can take more of a tourist's money. I'm sure this is the way you do business in Texas and I know the fault was mine for not paying the toll, but the fee is outrageous and sneaky. It will definitely deter me from traveling in Texas again. The traffic was horrible and the system is confusing at best. I'm not a criminal. I pay my bills. I don't appreciate being turned over to a collection agency for a $3.45 bill.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org statement of payment due

I just received a billing statement from TXTag for the period 05-31-17 to 07-05-17 from TXTag regarding my account #[protected]. To my surprise, the billing states a previous amount due of $25.97 with a $30.00 violation penalty tacked on.

I immediately called the TXTag Customer Service Representative to explain that I was not aware of any past due amounts. That is to say I have received no prevlous billing statements to that effect.

After checking my history, she then added, now given more penalties, I am in arrears of over $400.00!

What in the world is going on? I am not in the habit of ignoring my bills. If a statement is received, I pay it.

I want these penalties removed with a clear understanding of what I actually owe TXTag to bring me up to date.

Thank you for your assistance.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org unauthorized charges to our debit card through the website

I’m expressing my concern and relaying what happened to us yesterday because it seems illegal and has put us in a very difficult financial situation. Additionally, I am especially concerned for those with lesser means who have to be experiencing significant hardships because of a lack of competence within the TxTAG system. I don’t know if we have ever been delinquent paying our TXTAG charge before this recent incident. However, we owed $506.25 and my wife went on line to pay the bill in full yesterday. When she tried to use the website to pay, at the end of the process, it said there was an “error/failure”. So she tried it 3 more times getting the same error message. Thinking it must not have worked, she called TxTAG to sort it out. She tried to pay through customer service at their end and it was unsuccessful. We knew we had enough money to cover it and didn’t understand. When my wife went to look at our balance and the bank details, TxTAG had tried to take out $506.25 x 4 ($2025.00). The bank indicated it is “pending”. However, this freezes our account and in the meantime we incurred a $25.00 overdraft charge. TxTAG customer service said there was nothing they could do. We had to simply wait until the things cleared. I would go into detail about the run-around and the disconnections my wife experienced but I don’t know if it would help.
Obviously TxTAG is known for mismanagement considering how much press they have received over the years. Apparently fixes have not been addressed and they haven’t taken heed of the Legislative concerns regarding TxTAG. That is why I have also contact my Congresswoman as of a few minutes ago.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org billing

I called in June 2017 about a violation from May 2017. In my call, TXTag tells me that I have outstanding violations from Nov. 2016 that are now in collection. I was never informed of these initial violations, or that they had been sent to collection, or anything from the collection agency. Nothing. I am paying the bill, which the collection agency discounted a little, because I need to move on with my life. However, TXTag appears to be disorganized and incompetent, and the fees are extortion. My address is correct in their system, and has not changed for years. To get this resolved, I sat on the phone for a total of at least 2 hours with TXTag and the collection agency. Someone needs to put Glenn Hegar in charge of TXDot.

I just submitted a complaint about TX Tag on this site. When I submitted this complaint, I also complained on the TXDot complaint page (as well as several other sites). That was a few hours ago. In fairness, TX Dot just called me to get info about my complaint. The lady was nice and listened to me. My compliments to that department at TXDOT. They need to put the person in charge of the complaint follow-up department in charge of the billing department at TXTag.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org billing - texas toll tags are criminals

I have called 10 times and promised a returned phone call to resolve billing nightmare, They continue to charge me excessive fees, $5.00 over standard billing rate every time I go under a toll. I can not avoid tolls and prefer to work this out. I called collections, they refer me back to Tx Tag. Criminals. There are no government oversight, someone help.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org never contacted regarding being reported to collections for tx tag!!!

Hi there! I am like many who failed to update my credit card and thus began the "fine" process.

In December of 2016 I called to make a payment plan on my $1400 bill in fees. I was NEVER called, contacted, or mailed anything after that. I then decided to mail in my payments of $200 when I could.

Finally, I called in April of this year to again make another payment and I was told that I now had $6000 in fees and that I was reported to a collection agency! Never once did I ever think that I owed anything beyond what I was already paying... never got a notice of such.

Also, I was never told that it would cost $25 every time I went through the toll, which meant almost $100 a DAY... this is insane. The $25 isn't even reflected on any bill that I receive.

I was told that someone would contact me regarding setting up a plan and in the meantime I'm still wondering how I deal with the "collections" part of this. I am seriously considering a lawyer since I know people in the business.

My tx tag account number is [protected]. I am willing to pay any (normal) tolls that I owe but I feel it to be very unfair to pay anything else. Especially since the toll that I use for work only allows for "pay by mail" as there is no live person to collect tolls -- which I would gladly do to avoid this.

I appreciate your time and I look forward to hearing from you. My cell is [protected] and my email is erika.[protected]@gmail.com

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org fraudulent charges

Being a country girl, I very rarely take a toll road. This was the first time in years & didn't even realize it as a toll road until I couldn't find a way off of it! When the bill came (including fees for not having a tag)
I went online to pay my bill, that part of TxTag system was broken. I called to pay it over the phone, again there was a system issue. Spoke to a "live" person & even she couldn't process my payment. But, she did give me a discount on my bill & I mailed in a check. All is good, right? Wrong! I recently received a bill from an attorney regarding a $21 passed due amount with a $475 fee attached to it! The $21...Was my "discount" that the lady on the phone gave me. I called the collection agency/attorney only to be told there is nothing they can do, I just need to "pay my bills". Now, TxTag seems to have absolutely NO record of my initial call &/or issues that I was having trying to get this paid in the first part.
I can guarantee you, TxTag, that I will drive 100s of miles out of my way to NOT EVER get on your roads again! I will also Shout It To The Rooftops to EVERYONE that I know to not take your roads. POOR, POOR, POOR Customer Service & Cheaters at that! Shame on you for taking advantage of so many people!

You think that is bad? I live in OHIO and was sent a bill for tolls. Haven't been in Texas since 1987. None of my vehicles have been either. Called and wrote them---just pay your bill. OK send me a photo and I will pay it. We don't have to do that. You must prove your truck wasn't here. OK I live in Ohio and you say my truck is registered in Louisiana. I send you ohio truck registration (valid for a year) and proof I was at work during the toll violation. TXTags says pay up or we turn you over to collections and ruin your credit. This is extortion and fraud. SOMEONE needs to investigate this corrupt agency.

I purchased a Bash scooter and live in Corinth TX just south of Denton TX in Denton County. I am years old and now have 35 miles on the scooter. I got my new tag in the mail and I threw away the Temp tag on it in the garbage. Now I get a toll charge saying I owe a charge for a toll road GARPKWY which is an interstate that goes around Houston Texas. I have never been to Houston Texas much less on a toll road in Houston TX on the Memorial Day weekend May 27 2019. I called them and ask them to look at the photo of the so called vehicle this charge was on because it sure wasn't my scooter and they hung up on me. TX TAG is pulling license numbers and making up charges on them and mailing them to the registered owner. I do not owe any toll charges as I just plain wasn't there. Explain this to me. I am going to the News stations about this. When I tried to make a police report here on the charges of a stolen tag they police officer acted strange and suddenly wanted me to go somewhere else to make the charge as I thought the charge must have been on my new RAV4 I just got last December. After going online to check further I couldn't get any photo of the toll with the tag but could a copy of the bill. After trying to make the report to the police they told me the charge on the plates was to a motorcycle. I became confused. Now I find that it is on the scooter. You are out of your mind if you think I will pay this. Next you will have more charges on my scooter as well as late fees and I won't pay them. Now I'm going to look into charges on my vehicles for charges as they are probably making extra on the T tag as well that is registered to me. I am not dropping the fraudulent charges you are doing and let you get away with it. This needs to be stopped. TX TAG is a crook. I am also contacting an attorney in the matter.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org toll fees

I've had a horrible experience with TX tag. The staff is unprofessional and they do not care about there customers. I have spoken to numerous representatives and no one could provide me with accurate details about my account. I was billed close to 400 dollars in toll fees which included administrative fees. I was told that since my account was at there $10.00 threshold amount my account was considered negative what? This does not met any sense my account was not negative $10.00 is a positive number duh!

Why is the Attorney General not addressing these outrageous fees? I incurred over $500 in "Fines" because of late charges, being $5/toll! I'm in sales so I incur numerous tolls daily and it's very hard to keep up. If I'm late, I understand a late fee, not to incur fees that are double what my balance is! Credit card companies and others are regulated, why aren't they. They're making Austin territory an area you don't want to work in. Totally the opposite image of a FREEDOM State? What's the next step...class action lawsuit?

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org toll road

I received a bill from txtag and paid it. I continued to receive bills. I could not use their txtag.org site. It was always down. No one would ever answer when calling their number provided on their statement. When if finally get to talk to someone they tell me I paid on another account and that they use several other collection agencies to collect for them. I only have one vehicle and I paid using the information they provide on their statement! They now tell me that another agency controls a small area near Austin TX and I was billed from them. Seems like total BS! I feel txtag is double dipping and screwing hard working tax payers like myself. I will never waste my hard earned money on Texas toll roads AGAIN! Take the scenic route and enjoy the view.

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org unjustified fine

I was directed by police and entered the toll road 99 GRDPKY outside Houston because the temporal closure of Hwy 290. Since TxTag remove all the staff in their booths and all the coin machines, I had no way to pay at all. Worse of all, TxTag include fine with each segment along with the fee and mailing cost. For his one incident, they charge me with 2 fines. I am fine paying the toll since I used the road even not by my own choice. The fines were totally not justified. I am not from Houston area, and had no use of TxTag on regular basis.

January 1, Texas Tollways will no longer be accepting cash at its tolls. You will only be able to use their toll tag or be billed. They'll spend the money to remove the coin collectors and make an vast amount of money from charging fees and fines to those that do not want to have a tag.

We travel on the new toll road (paying $0.87 one way) on Highway 71 travelling west into Austin from Bastrop and this is how it looks EVERY SINGLE DAY! See pic. Ridiculous! A toll road is supposed to alleviate traffic jams, but it seems they create more problems. The roads in general in Austin are a joke. But the City Council can vote to install a $300, 000 bathroom for the homeless. This is one of the many reasons we moved to Bastrop, but unfortunately we still have to work in Austin. Done with this city!

I received a toll violation bill but never received an initial bill to pay. What a scam. My toll fee was 3.24 but they added a 15.00 violation fee and 1.00 processing fee so the bill went up to 19.24. Always pay my toll bill immediately upon getting in mail. Luckily we hardly ever use toll roads, and will be avoiding as much as possible in the future!

I too, will never use the toll ways again. The billing system is beyond terrible. The people and company responsible should be fired for incompetence. I paid a violation yesterday under protest because I am exhausted with fighting these people and this horrible system. I wanted to look at my statement history to see if I could tell which charge they said remained unpaid but (of course) I was unable to log in to my account. Unbelievable. I don’t care how inconvenient it may be to avoid the tolls. I will never use them again because I refuse to deal with these people.

Well after reading all the other complaints on here I can see I'm joining the unheard voices on this topic. As a result I too have taken the pledge(my entire household as well) to NEVER EVER use the Texas Toll road system in Austin! I called to pay my bill and it kept saying "sorry not valid"? It's their ticket and their numbers on the ticket and their answering service... Why does this NOT work? SCAM that's why. I too finally gave up and paid the ticket.. But when I paid online the amount had almost doubled from $32 to $64? In a matter of one day? NEVER AGAIN TEXAS! I'm extremely frustrated and this is not why the people of Austin voted for these toll roads to get RIPED OFF! It's wrong and needs to be stopped. BRING Back the cash only lane! Until they do this no one in the house will use the toll road EVER AGAIN! Total SCAM. Buy a toll pass you might say... What for to use once a month? SCAM SCAM shame on you Texas Toll Ways!

I never use toll roads, and I received a bill saying that I owed $17.34. I was no where in the area. I don't even live in the city. I was not official looking at all, It looks like someone made a copy of a violation. It so happens that my son had received a toll charge and we compared the bills. They look totally different. Looks like a scam to me!

I received a Notice of Violation without ever getting a bill or 2nd notice which the notice says would have occurred. I called for 4 days and got a busy signal or once I got through the system would cut me off repeatedly and I would have to call back in only to be cut off again. I tried e-mail and never got a response. I paid the $20 additional fees because I didn't want it to go any further, but what a SCAM! Apparently after getting this and doing some checking this happens a lot! Well I guess live and learn to never use Tollways around Austin. I wondered why it was so empty. Guess everyone else has figured out this is a scam. How do we get back to being able to pay without having to go through a company that says we haven't paid. Maybe Texas DOT needs to look at their contracts with these people instead of just allowing the citizens to be hijacked by these racketeers!

same thing happened to me I was unaware of the booths being torn down and didn't know it was made eztag after many years of paying at booth. Construction traffic was bad and I got on because they cut the road out and did not see any signs so when I went in to pay they told me fees would be waived if I purchased an eztag. I tried to even thou I dont want one just to get out of those outrageous fees they just started charging.. I have went and paid a few tolls that my son got in my car, but never had this problem a few dollars turned into almost a hundred and to me that is NOT RIGHT...I have never received a invoice before... then I come home and the next day one is in the mailbox. they are crooks ripping people off and I will NEVER EVER go on there again...

I used the toll road to go to Austin and then come back to San Antonio.
Being the first time using the toll road I was expecting an invoice in my home but I did not get it. Since I drive a company car my company got the bill in March 13th. There was an internal miscommunication and then we got a Notice of Violation for $39.96.
The bill showed a due date of 5/22/13.
On 5/21 I called to pay my bill by credit card (Tried to do it on line but the system did not allow me). When I called to pay the $39.96 they told me that the amount was not $39.96 but 87 and some dollars! I do not understand since the Notice of Violation [protected] was showing $39.96 and it showed it must be received by 5/22/13 to avoid additional fees.
This motivates me not to use the toll road never again.
I will also bring this complain to the Texas Department of Transportation.

TX TAG: AH4 7235 - This old blue and black Ford truck is driven by an illegal alien, named Ivan (don't know the last name, probably an alias anyway), who often drives drunk and he's never had a valid Texas license for the last ten years! Why doesn't the Immigration Service do anything about illegal aliens who have been REPORTED many times, who have no driver's license, who drive drunk and who are here illegally? Also, works but doesn't pay taxes or soc sec! Why is an agency as inept as this even being funded? What do the people at Immigration do all day, watch Judge Judy? If you see this vehicle with the TX tag AH4 7235, please report it to the Richardson police [protected]) or Dallas police...at the very leaset, this dangerous driver will be arrested for no license and driving drunk! Thank you for helping keep our streets safe!

Texas Department of Transportation / TxTag.org bad traffic control

There is a traffic control light at veterans memorial and hwy 249 in houston texas. This is a six lane hwy traveling east and west and a two lane street with left turn lanes traveling north and south. The problem which i have reported to the dot is that i am a disabled veteran and senior citizen who can not cross the intersection before the light changes from green to red. The time for the light to cycle from green to red is approximately (7) seconds and cars are moving before i can clear the intersection. If something is not done to correct the timer at this intersection someone may be struck by an automobile or a fatal accident is going to occur. Please someone help with this problem as i have received no help from Texas Department of Transportation.

Thee website is horrible. You can’t pay the bill. Can’t accept cookies. You’re stuck in. Loop hole. Doesn’t make sense to set up customers to get a bill then penaltize them for something they have no control of.

Problem started when we had to cancel our credit card due to fraud. Ever since then, TxTag has been nightmare. The autopay stopped working and, despite spending HOURS with customer support, has never been fixed. I've replaced the original bad credit card (autopay doesn't work); deleted & re-added good credit card (autopay still doesn't work)

I never received the pay by mail bulls on time. I only receive bills after they're extremely late. This toll system is a scam!

Please send an online complaint to the Governor's office a until they are sick and tired of all these complaints. All the Toll companies are scamming people with excessive fees. Complain to Attorney General as well until they do something.
