Not worth the cash
Bought an XV17 unit in May 2022 and has broken down 2 times since. The first was just 2 months after installation which was because of failed sensors causing the system to shut down. Which it will do without any warning or notification being sent. I found out when waking up in middle of the night in July sweating to death. Three days it took for the "certified technicians" to figure out what was wrong.
The next breakdown was in January 2024, the coil fan motor that was malfunctioning for I don't know how long. I figured out something must be wrong with the AUX heat running for hours each day. Increasing my electric bill about $190.00 above normal.
The technician was more than happy to come out for $149.00 to look at it however, said that it is cold out so most likely everything is fine, and I will charge the $149.00 regardless. Well, after an hour of testing and the so-called "certified technician" who spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support finally discover the fan motor was broke.
So, my $18,539.00 has no warning system whatsoever and will run for months while malfunctioning that will cause your electric bill to skyrocket.
Another $455.00 later for exactly 1.25 hours' worth of "labor only" to replace and the system is running again. For how long...I have zero faith it will last another year without breaking down again.
Is it running correct now? I have no idea as this system does literally nothing if/when major components fail. But I thank God every day the thermostat that's fully internet connected, with local radar abilities. But fails to beep when the system is malfunctioning.
Trane customer support is a joke. They really do not empathize with their customers (in fact they believe we are not really their customers) instead we are the customers of the "independent technicians" who sold the system to us.
They take no responsibility for the full financial damage their overpriced system causes. None of their tech support reps know much either. They offer no real solutions to any of their shortcomings with the lack of features one would expect at this price point.
Instead, I was told, I should have asked the salesman what happens when the system fails. So, they think this is my fault.
Meanwhile, I complained to them, and they offered a pittance of a total of $181.20 as a 'goodwill gesture" to help out with the technician's outrageous fees to repair their junk system. My total out of pocket for this repair was $790.00 which includes the electric bill increase.
My advice...do not buy a Trane or any of their sister company products. They are way overpriced junk that lack basic features. And customer service is abysmal to say the least.

Trane furnace
I had a Trane Furance and Heat Pump installed in 2019. The temperature has been inconsistent the entire time. Have had technicians come out and install a different theromostat and also change from efficiency mode to operate with coils if the heat pump isn't handling the heat. It is very frustrating to pay almost $9,000 for a furnace system which constantly...

New motor fails soon after install. Evaporative coils filed in 2.5 years leaking water badly. This resulted in expensive labor costs to repair.
Technician indicated many unit coils failed similarly because of poor design and manufacturing.
Unit was installed April 16, 2021. Motoe failed in 3 weeks
Coils failed two months ago. After waiting for replacement part with unit inoperable, unit was repaired October 24, 2023. In Florida this time frame is in warm months.
Desired outcome: Refund of $1120 labor costs for repair.

Trane HVAC unit TEM4A0C42S41SBA
Brand new system, placed 09/21... within a year, coil sprang a leak. Under warranty, but still over $1000 in labor. Now, late May 2024... another coil leak. A/C guy managed to patch the coil for now, so at least we have air, but have been waiting on coil and primary drainpan, under warranty, since that time... Claim # C-[protected], with no end in sight. We are emptying buckets & buckets... garage is getting mold... mounting hardware is getting rusted... And Trane... nothing. Sorry, nothing we can do. WORST COMPANY EVER!
Desired outcome: Getting the parts so this unit can be fixed and Trane should pay extra for the damage that's being done with water leaking constantly from airhandler!!!
coil
The unit coil is leaking. This is the 3rd coil for this unit. I purchased the 5.0 unit July 2017, the original coil started leaking in January 2020 and replaced. The unit is leaking as of May 2023. The labor cost to replace the coil is +$850.
I still have a pending claim with customer no-service from 2020. I purchased 2 units in 2027 and both coils failed at the same time. Customer no-service offered only to pay for one and not the 2 I purchased.
Desired outcome: Trane should pay for all the labor involved in the replacement of the coils. My dealer is Matthew Roberts, Inc. in Oviedo Florida.
Trane quality and customer service
Had a brand new 5 ton hvac system installed October 2022. Couple months later the condensate pan in the air handler had a leak. Trane Florida did not have the part and in was ordered by my local Trane dealer. Ever since then I've tried unsuccessfully to get an update on the part to no avail. Trane customer service is not helpful at all and now it is over 6 months that my leaky pan and my resulting mold issue continue. Consider that they still sell new air handlers that have to have a condensate pan, one has to wonder why aren't there parts for repairs? Are the condensate pans going into the air handlers of the same substandard quality? Is this a systemic quality issue? And why isn't Trane transparent with the issues and when the new part will be shipped. Never ever will I buy or recommend a Trane product.
Desired outcome: Ship me a new part with an apology and explanation. Cover the dealers labor costs for all the efforts they made on behalf of the customer.
Waiting on my drain pan as well. Mine was installed in 2019 started leaking from the crack 3 weeks ago. The issue is still not resolved and part of my garage ceiling collapsed from the leaking unit. Now my air return box and internal insulation is soaked and can’t be fixed until the part comes in. Want to know who’s gonna pay for the repair of the unit and my ceiling
2 and 3 ton trane units improper installation
After 3 service calls within a year, the 3 ton went down. The serviceman claims the air handler had a leak. Only one year out of service. Not worth repairing. More importantly, the installation on these units did not have the sufficient air intake. This caused the 3ton unit to breakdown. I need someone from Trane that has a knowledge of this and correct the problem. The installer did not make the proper assessment, thus a bad reflection on Trane. These systems were here when I bought the house. Still if something is not installed correctly, why should it be neglected.
Desired outcome: I was told by the last serviceman that the computation for the air intake was incorrect.
Extended warantee
I purchased a home in May 2021 during the midst of the pandemic. The people I purchased the home from were COVID paranoid. I was only allowed in the home once and never met them again. I am a nurse practitioner at Mayo Clinic and was working 60 hours a week during the time of this transaction. This was also my first home purchase by myself. I paid for a home inspection but nothing was ever mentioned/recommended re: a warranty extension for the 3 year old air conditioning units.
Since I live alone, I am diligent about maintaining my home and appliances. I had someone come to do routine maintenance on my 2 Trane units last week and asked them about the length of the warranty. I was told to contact Trane Warranty, which I did, and they recommended that I transfer the warranty to my name. Limited warranty #[protected] which expires in July 2023.
I asked why I was not given the full 10 year warranty and was told that I had to submit the transfer within 90 days of home purchase. I was NEVER offered this option by the original owner or realtor, otherwise, as a single woman I would have submitted this for extension in a heartbeat. I have reviewed all of my closing documents and I have contacted numerous people at your warranty company and at first was told to appeal this decision. Several calls later after innumerable transfers, I was told that I could not appeal. Given the extenuating circumstances and never having been informed of this loophole, I am hopeful that you can assist me. So far, all that I have received from 5 phone calls to the warranty company is a standard canned response.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Desired outcome: I would like to have the ability to extend the warranty that I was not notified of when i purchased my home.
Model 4WCC4036A10000AA Serial 152210405L package unit
Unit lost heat pump capabilities .. Heat strips still work.. This happened 3 months ago. Trane dealer tried replacing components without success. 2 months ago he ordered a new control board and it still has not arrived. This unit is 7 years old and parts under warranty. Trane keeps telling him that it will be shipped after many calls. Looks like I am going to have to contact a lawyer to see if anything can be done. I can assure Trane that if I don't get unit repaired I will call every news trouble shooter in North Carolina and have them show my TRANE problem.
Desired outcome: Send part for repair.
Evaporator coil gone bad after 3 years 1 month
I purchased a new tran hvac system Feb 2020 by Del-Air. I have regularly maintain the unit according to the manufacturers recommendation. March 13,2023 after loss of cooling, Del-Air the installer diagnosed a leaking evaporator coil. Coil is under warranty but $1721 labor is not. After losing my mind i was able to get labor to $1300. I had to buy the extended warranty to cover future labor on warranty parts. So $2500 later my ac is running. I will be contacting the attorneys who handled the class action suit to try to collect a lot of people to go after Trane to do the right thing here. There are too many of us having the same issues with Trane.
Desired outcome: I would love to get my $1300 back!
I forgot to add the air handler model number TEM6A0B30H2ISRA (tried to read techs handwriting).
Please contact me if you speak with attorney. I have two units, went into service October 2021 and are both leaking. I am expected to cover labor to replace both coils at a discounted fee of 2100. Absolutely absurd, and the service dept told me she is ordering new coils constantly due to their failure. trane should not be allowed to sell products that fail in the first two years of service and not cover it. Furnace
When we purchased out Trane XV80 system in 2013 we were under the impression that this unit would last at least as long as our Rhem builder's grade. Well 10 years and 38 days later our systems motor has gone kaput. Now we have to spend 2500.00 to repair our system. I remember working at General Motors as an engineer in the early 1980's. The key word there was planned obsolesce, to keep dealers service departments and new car sales going. Well now I believe, I have experienced the same issue with Trane. Develope a product that goes out right after the warranty expires. I really thought this was a no brainer at the time of purchase, but here we are. Now not a polyanna but certaintly would like some sort of resolution or help with this from Trane. I did send all the documentation to them as requested. But good luck with that, just more hand ringing.
Desired outcome: New furnace motor.
The evaporator coils on my trane system due factory defect whereas, the freon leaked out..
My model number TEM6A0B30H21SAA and 410A Evaporator coil leaked all of the freon causing the system to shut down on February 10, 2023. My case id number is 210132. I live in Florida where the air conditioning is vital and while Trane knows of this factory defect they are giving me the run around. The manufacturer date on the system is 4/2018 and was installed at my new house on 5/2018 placed in operation on 11/2018. I contacted the Consumer Relations/Tech Support and spoke to their representative and after explaining the situation she agreed with me that a new Evaporator coil will be sent to replace the faulty coil. On 2/13/2023 I followed up with their consumer relations representative of which she asked me to send additional back up information from the technician that analyzed the problem which I sent. A response was received today 2/14/2023 of which Trane declined to replace my evaporator coil because it was out of warranty which ended 6 months ago. This is not a warranty issue it is a manufacturer defect/product defect as noted by some of the consumers above. Trane knows about this and will do nothing. I need assistance and help.
Desired outcome: A replacement, installation including labor cost and a new warranty without cost. THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT.
Drain Pan failure replacement part
We have 2 Trane air handlers in our home. One stopped working June 2022. Bryant HVAC came to service the unit and found that the primary drain pan is cracked. Model 4FWCA031A1000A Horizontal right part PAN03885. They ordered the part and we were told it was on backorder until Sept 2022. It has now been almost 7 months and still no part. Trane now says there is no ETA. This particular part was also recalled and a service bulletin was issued for this exact failure. This is absolutely unacceptable to wait this long for a simple drain pan. Bryant even suggested replacing the whole system, which for 2 handles, it would be at least $18K. I can not fathom why we should have to replace our entire system for a drain pan that should be free due to recall. On top of it all, during the last 6 months, we've had to sell our house and now have a pending offer set to close in January 2023 and are at risk of losing the sale because Trane can't get it together and provide the part.
Desired outcome: I want the part now, not weeks, not months, now.
Obviously reading your complaint and seeing it's comparison to my situation (JohnandLily) it's obvious that Trane has a systemic problem with the drain pan which they haven't corrected. Yet they continue to ship new product as my system was purchased 1 year after yours so even though they know they have issues, they continue to ship and sell the problematic drain pans. Heck of a company, huh?
Repeated failure of trane heat pump
This Trane ain’t bound for glory…
Winter has arrived and we are faced, yet again, with the annual failure of our Trane heat pump. After a myriad of technician visits and varied diagnostic attempts over the years, we are still no closer to stabilizing this machine. We moved into our newly constructed home in April 2016. Our contractor put the installation of the heating and cooling system out to bid and selected a Trane installer because of the reputation and reliability of the Trane brand. We were happy to pay a premium for the system (Heat pump model #4TWR4060E1000BA; Air handler model #TAM7B0C60H51SCB) in the hopes we would have many worry free years of service.
Then the nightmare began. Early in January 2017 the heat pump faulted when temperatures dropped into single digits. The original installer made three service calls to diagnose the problem.
First visit addressed a wiring problem with the furnace.
Second visit addressed heat pump fault issue. Error code was defrost lockout. They ordered a new control board indicating they had seen this resolve the problem at other locations.
On the third service call, they replaced the control board. They also implied that a newer board was being released in the near future and they would replace ours when it was available (never happened).
When the heat pump faulted again, the original installer would not come out on a warranty service call. As it turned out, they never registered the original warranty within the allotted time and did not instruct us to do so. When we asked them to contact Trane to get the warranty back dated, they said Trane would not work with them. At that point, we were basically hosed and had lost our warranty advantage. We then talked with the original installer on the phone who walked us through the reset procedures although the problem continued. We crippled thought that winter on the emergency heat setting. The issues remained unresolved since the problem could not be duplicated outside of winter conditions. There were no issues during the summer as our use of air conditioning was infrequent.
The winter of 2017/18 was mild so the lockout problem did not surface.
The winter of 2018/19 saw the defrost lockout problems begin again. The system had to be reset several times as local technicians attempted to diagnose the problem. Again, we had to rely on the emergency heat setting and our electric bills sky rocketed. We scheduled a service call in October 2019 in an attempt to head off the winter faulting problems. The technician found that a J-2 jumper on the defrost board was not clipped so he clipped it. He indicated the purpose of the jumper was to allow higher temperature of OD coil for defrosting in low ambient temperatures with high humidity. During the same call, he looked for other operating limits and found none. He indicated that under regular operating conditions the defrost lockout should not happen until around -7 degrees. Service call was $139.32.
In January 3-13, 2020 – three service calls were made. The heat pump started blowing the breaker and the furnace was running continually. It was noted that breaker problem did not happen until after the jumper was clipped. The Trane certified service technician discovered that the heat pump compressor had failed (OHMed out the compressor and found the windings had failed). The compressor was replaced and system reset. Also looked at the thermostat and made some adjustments to installer settings and added refrigerant to the heat pump. Invoiced $637.89 for the three calls.
July/August 2022. Scheduled maintenance service call. First technician diagnosed a needed part replacement but did not order part or schedule a return visit. Owner followed up and examined the heat pump and said no parts were required and we were good to go.
November 11, 2022. Heat pump faulted again. Called a different repair service provider and they reset power to get the heat pump to come on and it began heating. He said the unit had locked out due to too many defrosts in a cycle. Reset power again and added refrigerant although it faulted again shortly thereafter. His diagnosis was that the unit needs a new outdoor TXV and quoted $1900 for the repair. We are still operating on the emergency heat setting and expecting a huge electric bill for this month. Invoiced $341.14 for the service call and repair quote.
December 7, 2022. Scheduled a second opinion for the heat pump faulting problems. This owner/technician reviewed past history of the unit and the multiple attempts to repair it without finding a permanent solution. Said he would not attempt the suggested $1900 repair because there was no guarantee that it would be successful. Recommended replacing the entire system.
As of December 7, 2022 our out of pocket expenses have been $1118.35 and we are looking at an additional $1900 repair or many thousands for the system to be replaced. In addition, we are paying unnecessarily high electric bills that this system was supposed to mitigate.
So, the nightmare continues. We have our house temperature set at 63 degrees and live with layers of clothing, extra blankets and strategically placed space heaters. If there were a lemon law for heat pumps, ours would certainly qualify. In a perfect world, Trane should come to our rescue and at least replace the heat pump or, better yet, the entire system to end this eternal nightmare.
Trane – hope you are listening and will find an expedient resolution for us.
Desired outcome: Replace heat pump or entire system if that's what it takes to resolve our problem.
Trane XV20i
Lauded as the top of the line and super efficient AC system after less than 3 years our system has turned out to be the worst AC system we ever purchased.
At a whopping $13K for a 4 ton system it wasn't cheap but we thought the heavily promoted features would be worth it. Wrong. Installed and serviced by Airmasters of TampaBay, Tampa Fl, after only 18 months the super computerized thermostat failed and had to be replaced. After less than three years of operation the twice a year serviced system stopped cooling properly and seemed to switch to heating. After 3 pounds of refrigerant and a couple of hundred bucks a leak detection was recommended. A leak was detected at the condenser which was ultimately replaced under warranty (labor and refrigerant cost $2000!) but that wasn't the real reason. The system needed a software update ! which should have been done before any failure occurred. After that was done system worked properly for a couple of weeks when it started heating again. Suspected cause was a faulty solenoid. Trane rep overruled technician and told him to replace the wiring harness only which was done. A week later system switched to heating again. Finally the solenoid was replaced but while technician cleaned the outdoor unit the circuit breaker got tripped. Turned out the drive board (circuit board as I understand it) got fried. Replacement not before 2 weeks, perhaps 3. AC down now for 6 days with temp cooling proved by 2 LG indoor units lent by Airmasters.
This is a complete horror. Either we bought a lemon or the quality and longevity claims are just not true. Point in case: 2500 orders are in at Trane for the part we need. That alone says enough.
Desired outcome: If possible we would like to have the whole system dismantled and replaced with a less complicated and more reliable system. Variable speed would be nice but what is most important is as little electronics as possible.
Reimburse me my money
Dear Sir or Madam,
I purchased a Trane heat pump system from Artic Breeze on 12/20/2019.
On December 31, 2021 my outdoor TXV malfunctioned and needed repair. This occurrence cost me $172.75 for Arctic Breeze to diagnose the problem and another $475.75 for labor and freon a couple of weeks later. I contacted Trane Consumer Relations shortly after this issue and they sent me a check for less than $200.00 (I believe)
On November 7, 2022, my air conditioner quit working again. Artic Breeze was unable to find the issue when they came to my home the next day, but still charged me $300.00 for a service call and hourly fee. They returned the next day and found that the indoor TXV was leaking, and now they want to charge me $1100.00 to add freon and labor and replace the TXV. I then contacted R.W. Aire Conditioning to get a second opinion, and they quoted me $980.00, which includes Labor and Freon. They also indicated that the coil should be replaced (which is included in the $980.00 price). I did a lot of research and found that R.W. was correct and that the Trane Coil has a very short life, and I could have issues with it in the near future. Yesterday, I contacted Trane to ask for reimbursement, and in a poorly written response to me, they refused to assist me. I really cannot understand how a unit that less than 3 years old, can give me so many problems especially since we have a preventive maintenance contract with Arctic Breeze, and they come every 6 months to my home. I also don't understand how Trane is not paying for the freon and labor since I have a 10 year warranty on the unit, and all of the problems were caused by faulty parts Trane manufactures.
I chose to purchase a Trane product almost 3 years ago because of Trane's reputation, but now I am kicking myself because of my experiences and because I have seen a lot of negative feedback regarding Trane, specifically the parts that have malfunctioned. I'm concerned that even after I do the repair, I will be having other problems with the TXV and Coil from what other people have told me and what I have read.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Desired outcome: I really feel that Trane should reimburse me for all of the money I have and will lay out for freon and labor due to their faulty part.
Bad Services of Trane Kuwait and Un commitment of the contract Liabilities
hello,
Iam Tamer Shawky , the operation manager of AL Dhow Company located in Kuwait . we purchased Trane systems( chillers) from Trane Kuwait under official sale binding contract. unfortunately Trane team in Kuwait in the capacity of the general manager having no response to our requests which it is formally rights by the contract liabilities.
we believe with Trane rules and quality of customer services as this is the top priority. actually the CEO/GM of Kuwait branch is not the Trane expectation for market growth.
appreciate your action and we contacted by Trane representative to have a look on our issue and fix it.
Best Regards, Tamer

Trane Air Conditioning
Trane air conditioning system had coil warranty reduced from 10 years to 3 years and failed at 3.5 years. Unit was under a maintenance contract with the installing authorized dealer its entire life. The MX series coils have been part of class action litigation and Trane has degraded units warranty as a way to avoid the liability created by poor design and manufacturing. They twist and contort US federal warranty law to try and manipulate their responsibility to consumers and cover their own problems. Their registration requirements are questionably legal and outright banned in many states. They have refused to return the units full warranty that have resulted in $2500 of repairs to a 3.5 year old system and now a over 50% reduction in any remains warranty on the other pieces. This system is one of 2 Trane units we own and the other has suffered similar failures.
Desired outcome: Return of full warranty
Trane air conditioner evaporator coil failures
When my 18 year old Rheem air conditioners finally needed replacement in June 2010, I purchased 2 Trane units since I have a 2 zone cooling system. Five years (2015) after the new Trane units were installed, the evaporator coils failed on BOTH units and were replaced under my 10 year Trane parts and labor warranty.
Seven years later (2022), one of the replacement evaporator coils failed. Since I was out of warranty, I did contract Trane to see if they would do anything for me since obviously something was wrong with their evaporator coils to have 3 failures in 12 years. Trane declined any type of help. The Trane website states that evaporator coils should last 10 to 15 years...not the case for me at 5 and 7 years.
Now Trane no longer offers 10 year labor, only 10 year parts and one year labor. Labor would have been very costly if I did not have the 10 year labor warranty.
I have since researched Trane evaporator coil issues/complaints and have found them online.
I am now researching which manufacturer to purchase a new replacement unit from.
PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH CAREFULLY PRIOR TO PURCHASING A TRANE AC UNIT.
