I've used turbo tax for years without issues. This year I finally had an issue and tried resolving it without any success whatsoever. The problem occurred when I tried to efile. I paid to file both federal and state and hit submit and then was told it would not transmit. I tried updating the product and rebooting. same issue, I googled and found MANY others had similar issues. Two theories were prominent. The first was that intuit no longer supported free efiling which kind of defeats the point of having it for me. The second was that you could file the federal and the issue was with the State filing. I tried this and I was able to e-file the federal but still unable to file the state. I dialed the only phone number available for support since you only find out about this issue AFTER you pay the $25 dollars to efile THEN you hit transmit. So the payment is gone and I am unable to file the state by efile and so I tried calling to find out how to get a refund. I tried for 2 hours trying to use the auto phone system to connect with a live agent. WHAT a worthless system! The robot voice seems unable to get your enunciated letters and after several attempts will say it's connecting you to a live agent and then you get silence and no-one. So - whoever is reading this I would like someone to call me about refunding my $25 dollars - evening times work best 4-10pm CST at [protected]. If I don't hear anything, I'll assume you don't care about your product and then I will also adopt the same attitude and move on to my next phase.
Next phase is... in order to get my $25 dollars back and warn others I will do the following. I will not buy anymore turbo tax products and switch to another tax software. I will NOT recommend this product to anyone from here on out. And will write bad reviews regularly wherever and whenever possible. All that could be easily avoided if you could actually talk to someone that could help.
Desired outcome: Call me to discuss how to get the $25 refund and how to actually submit my remaining returns
Deluxe!!!
I am here to complain due to the fact that when my tax return was filed with Turbo Tax, i had entered all 14 digits of my account # and all 9 digits of the routing number. I was due to receive my refund by March 1,2022. I kept checking "Wheres My Refund" on the IRS website the status wasn't changing and my status bars were all gone. Finally, one day i checked and everything had changed and gave me the return date of March 16,2022, well before hand i had reviewed my tax return for download on my laptop and i noticed that my account number was short 3 digits, so right then and there i began to question my return and started to (try) and contact all people whom would have anything to do with my return. So with endless run arounds and unable to speak to a live human representative i find out that my funds were deposited to Metabank (Netspends banking partner) on March 16,2022 as they were scheduled to do but that also seeing that the account number was short 3 digits they wouldnt be able to forward my funds to Netspend bc of the issue and netspend would reject it causing it to be sent back to the IRS which will delay my return for whom knows how much longer now. And i know for a guaranteed fact that i triple checked my account and routing numbers due to the fact my 5 children and I are currently homeless and my tax return was our saviour to provide my children a home. I now have to explain to my kids a situation i don't understand myself. This is so ridiculous, i am beyond stressed, angered and disgusted as to why simple hard working people would be of such targets to the obviously sick, underworked thieves out there. Oh and not to mention that also my return was reduced by $3,000. I may have the solution to that issue though. I've still yet to try and solve the situation yet but I will update when I know more. Something needs done about this! I will NOT be a returning customer of Turbo Tax.
Desired outcome: I pray TurboTax fixes this by providing Metabank with the 3 digits missing off my account number. Also, I paid for TurboTax Live Deluxe for the Self-employed so to speak to a live person would be great! I also have a support ID #

Had foreign tax entered from 1099-Div. Initially entered as Itemized. Changed mind and wanted tax credit. Went through DIV screens and entered associated Foreign Div income. Accepted and indicated qualified as tax credit without filing form 1116. But tax remains as itemized deduction versus a tax credit. Did this multiple times with two different support staff (Kurt and Grace), with no success.
Also, not clear why I owe no federal taxes when I had taxable income of $5518. Per Fed brackets for single, the tax should be 10%? I do not see explanation of why it says Fed tax is zero? Support person said it's right with no explanation either. He said there is no problem with software, so it is right.
Desired outcome: Would like to take foreign tax as a tax credit vs itemized, OR why I can't do this.Like an explanation of why my Federal Taxes are zero for Taxable income of $5,518, to ensure I'm not liable later after filing.
W-2 entry
I have been using Turbo Tax since the late 1980's and have always been able to post information from my W-2's into the program. This is no longer the case. When I click on the Update button next to Wages and Salaries, Form W-2 I get a blank page. That's it. Just a big blank page. Turbo Tax really screwed the pooch this year. One used to be able to pick up blank FIT forms at the library, no more. I guess I'll go online to the IRS website and print my needed forms from there and its back to the kitchen table. Using my computer was fun while it lasted.
Desired outcome: I'd appreciate a response as to how this will be fixed. Update coming?
2021 filing.
I filed a 2021 tax return with turbo tax. They said I was allowed a 'Recovery Rebate Credit' from the stimulus checks given during the Covid Pandemic. After filing I got a letter from the IRS saying I wasn't authorized this credit. What did I pay for? Apparently Turbo Taxx doesn't know the tax rules. Why should a person have to pay for bad information. This company is a rip-off.
Desired outcome: Fix the problem; refund my payment.
Improper filing
The first time i tried to file i had to go back and fix things once they were fixed i was all set to go! I had a note from the IRS website stating changes were made due to a dependent and improper imputs. Instead of having me fix them they went ahead and filed them submitting only 230$ from 1690$, i have no dependents beside myself and do not owe anything! No property no possessions! What kind of joke is this?!?
Desired outcome: Fix my refund!!!
Turbotax add ons are little more than a scam for additional revenue
When filing my 2021 taxes earlier this year, I selected every option TurboTax presented on their website as an add-on service for an additional fee. I have followed the same process for years. Instead of using any of the many free options, I believed it was the responsible strategy to have expert, personalized assistance for something as serious as dealing with the IRS.
This is the first year I had a discrepancy that required additional assistance, and I felt relief that I had paid the extra fee. My ultimate disappointment has been immeasurable, but I am hopeful that anyone reading this review will save themselves the same frustration and potentially hundreds of dollars. BUYER BEWARE; TT provided me with nothing less than advertised. They are not offering you any personalized services, and you will not have access to a CPA. If you are ever audited, you are better off paying for a local CPA, with your hard-earned dollars going towards your specific needs.
The first indication that TT was not a helpful product was when my Federal Return was delayed significantly. My state return was accepted, and a refund deposited within 1 week of my submission. My Federal return was accepted and followed by radio silence for several weeks. TT sent me no updates; nothing on my TT account home screen indicated an update or the need for additional information. A friend advised me that she had used an alternative online tax prep company. She received an email from that company advising her of a delay for all who claimed a Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit, and even provided a date by which the return should be expected along with a link to IRS.gov for further details. I received no such information from TT.
I went directly to IRS.gov for further information and found that my friends email notification was accurate. I found additional resources and information applicable to me. I began to check IRS.gov daily, as the homepage for my TT account never changed or updated, but the IRS did. Eventually, my information on the IRS.gov website updated to advise me that I was missing document 8332, and since it wasn’t submitted when filing my taxes, a significant recalculation had been applied to my refund. The letter advised me on what specific steps should be taken to correct this, including advising me of a hard deadline to have the documents submitted by, and that electronic submission would not suffice.
I contacted TT, thinking that I was going to receive personalized, professional assistance to get this addressed. I spoke to multiple customer service agents, each representing themselves as an “expert” Tax Advisor. I repeatedly explained that I had paid extra in the event I needed help from a CPA and requested to be connected to whomever was assigned to me.
Each agent I spoke with was pleasant and kind and assured me they were an “Expert Tax Advisor”. It was at this point I slowly began to realize my own error. I would not be connected to a CPA. I would not be getting any personalized assistance. The “Experts” are just the call center customer service/sales agents for the TT product. While providing excellent customer service, they are not equipped to answer questions about tax code or law. They have no more education on filing taxes than you or I, and if asked directly, will admit the quiet part aloud. They are not a CPA. I find this sales strategy borders on unethical. Having worked in a call center for years, I am very familiar with scripting that is designed specifically to convey one message to the client while carefully protecting the company’s interest. To be subtly manipulated with this careful verbiage when navigating something as serious as filing taxes is not just frustrating. It’s terrifying. All the peace of mind I believed I paid for was nothing more than a well-executed sales pitch. I fell for it, these agents knew it, and were gently advising me of this.
When initially completing the “train-ride” process of filing my taxes through TT website, I was made aware of the need for an 8332 form. I read all the additional information boxes available to me on what the form is, why it is needed, and who needs to submit it. From these information boxes, I deduced that this was not my responsibility. (Ultimately, it isn’t. Someone else needs to fill out and sign this form. I assumed it would be done when that person filed their taxes.) However, since the submission (or exclusion) of this form is significant enough to alter my personally calculated result by more than half, I would expect that TT would alert me to this. Perhaps something in red indicating a concern or something potentially missing. Anything to indicate that I potentially should follow up on this item, acquire the signed form and include it with my return before submitting. TT provided me NO indication that I was missing documentation, and certainly no warnings or predictive calculations of what might happen if this documentation isn’t included. At no point in the entire process did TT ever even update my account on their website to indicate that my return had been adjusted. I never received an email or any notification at all from TT indicating a discrepancy with my return or the need for additional documentation.
None of my subsequent requests for assistance from TT resulted in action points for resolution. Each agent had a different suggestion on how to handle the amendment, and despite being advised there were “notes added to my account”, each conversation began anew as though I were a stranger. Being subject to a system of taxation that carries the potential for life-altering punishments should a mistake arise is stressful enough. To then be taken advantage of by a company who happily benefits financially from the fear of that system is unconscionable. I will never again use TurboTax, and I would encourage others to take advantage of the many free options available for filing your taxes. If your taxes are complex enough to require assistance, please hire a reputable CPA.
Desired outcome: I'd love a refund of all the "extras" I paid for. TurboTax should be forced to advertise accurately. You will never speak to an actual CPA, you will not receive personalized assistance should a problem arise.
Customer service representative
A customer rep. named "Serena" just hung up on me, because I asked to speak with a different rep. The phone call took place @ approx. 12:50
pm (PST). She hung up on me at 12:55 pm (PST). She was extremely argumentative regarding my request. I did not raise my voice at all during the phone call and remained professional. My call to customer service was first answered by "Emily" who was extremely cordial, Emily was unable to assist me with my question, so transferred me to "Serena".
My call to your customer service dept. was to see if I could receive a product key for 2019 Turbo Tax desktop software. I had misplaced my CD and product license code, and I need to amend my 2019 taxes. She kept repeating over and over again that she could not provide that to me, because that would be giving away "free products". I tried to explain to her that if she looked in my Turbo Tax account, she could see that I did purchase the 2019 Desktop CD version of Turbo Tax.
I hope that you are able to provide support and/or training to her, as this is the rudest person I have ever encountered in dealing with any company in my entire life. As a retired professional, I know how aggressive employees can reflect badly on a company. I would like a response to this email to ensure that you are aware of this incident. I look forward to hearing from someone soon. Thank you!

Desired outcome: Evidence that "Serena" was spoken to, and a product license key for Turbo Tax 2019 version so I can amend my 2019 income taxes.
Tax refund
I filed mine and my husbands taxes 2/11/22 according to TurboTax we were to get $6,957. Then on the IRS transcripts there was an error and the IRS corrected it and we were to get a refund of $2,757. Today 3/15/22 I see TPG has been funded $1,640.52 and TurboTax got their fee of $167 leaving a total of $1,473.52. So we are missing $1,114.52. I called TurboTax who said they didn’t know and then I called the IRS who said they sent the $2,757 and to call TT back and again they blame shifted and act like they don’t know where our money is. Have seen this issue posted in multiple groups. I just want our complete refund and not to be to be robbed. I will never use TurboTax again and will also let everyone else know who already isn’t going through this crap. Also called the offset line just incase and there are no offsets either.
Desired outcome: Give us the money we have been shorted!!!

Premier turbo tax
I have been using Turbo Tax for years and I have never complained... until this year. Basically I like the product. But this year I felt that the product had several sloopy issues that made it less user friendly: 1) Logging-In was more cumbersome than in the past. 2) If I was working on my taxes and took a break to get a cup of coffee the system would log me out. Since it was more difficult to log-in this became irritating. 3) Although I used Turbo Tax last year I could not down load last year'
s data. I called for assistance and the technician could not help me either. So I had to reenter last year's data manually. 4) It seemed like the prices are escalating and they are constantly trying to get you to buy more add on's like Karma Credit. Maybe it's time for me to try Tax Slayer.
Desired outcome: Resolve the issues I mentioned and make the experience more User Friendly.

Turbotax Canada
To whom it may concern:
I was supposed to speak with an expert on Friday (March 11th) at 7pm PST. However, the expert didn't even give me a call after I had waited for more than hour and therefore I had to contact the customer service center and my appointment was rescheduled for today at the same time but nobody gave me a call again after I had been waiting for an hour.
I just want to leave a complain in here because I don't see that they consider me as a valuable customer and they had also put me in a really difficult situation since I don't drive and my accountant office was pretty far away from where I live. Now I just don't know what to do because if I don't do tax for myself this year, I could be get sue by the government.
At first, I just thought using Turbotax should be the best way in order to do the tax, but obviously I was wrong.
I am not going to recommend Turbotax to anyone who wants to do tax by themselves.
IRS 2021 Tax Return
My tax liability is very simple--no deductions, income was only from social security and unemployment, and one small part-time job. Two things happened: 1. Turbotax charged me $75 when I asked for the $39 basic charge. 2. TurboTax filed my return and my copy shows my refund to be $3027.00. My refund that was direct deposited was only $1533.45 (IRS says it was $1627.00). Turbotax claims to guarantee its service. I don't know what that means since I can't get through to them on the telephone and my email is returned because their system won't accept it (even though they direct me to reply to their message). I don't think Turbotax can be trusted to do their calculations correctly and I suspect that some of my refund has been misdirected since the amount should have been a round number, not an odd number.
Desired outcome: Refund of my charges, a complete audit of their calculations and a correct copy of my return
payment not received
I filed both state and Federal taxes with Turbo Tax on 24 January 2022 and the IRS issued my refund on 25 February 2022 and and state a few days later. Ss of today (11 March 2022) I have not received my refund payment or any notification of its status.
Desired outcome: My refunds sent to me within the next 48 hours.

IRS states after receiving information from third parties (appears to be RR Retirement) information doesn't match the information reported
Turbo Tax Account Number: [protected], Routing Transit Number: [protected] - need info to explain why I'm issued this proposal from the IRS - may involve Railroad Retirement amounts. I installed all the info required.
The IRS lists that taxable income reported on my Turbo Tax report line 15 $128,895 and is corrected by the IRS as $164,130 with a difference of $35,238. They state taxes you owe are $7,753 with penalties of $1551 and interest of $251 total equal of $9555. The statement goes on to list that the US Railroad Retirement Total is $41,457. These amounts were included in the Turbo Tax calculations required in the Turbo Tax format. IRS states in this Proposed Amount Due of $9555 that we cap the amounts of taxable Social Security or Tier 1 railroad benefits reported on Form 1040 US Individual Tax Return for Seniors at 85% of the gross benefits you receive. Gross benefits are reported to you on Form 1099-SSA or Form 1099, box 5. Form 1099 applies to me
All this information was input into the Turbo Tax format as required
Why would there be any opposition in the facts I include in the Turbo Tax? format?
Please explain why i am seeing a difference between the Turbo Tax numbers andthe IRS

I had the same problem but it got worse. I had to file my state by mail even after I successfully paid for efiling. Then, when I tried to efile my fed return, I repeatedly got messages about Intuit having uncontrolled problems with the internet. Had to file my fed return by mail also. Horrible experience this year.
