On the recommendation of a Lowes associate in Cookeville, TN, we ordered a Whirlpool counter depth refrigerator from lowes.com (the store did not have what we needed). When it was delivered it looked like a reject from a scratch and dent store (filthy, dented, and unprotected by any packing or box); we sent it back with directions to replace it with a new unit. The day before the new unit was to be delivered the Lowes store called to tell us that it was back ordered and there would be a two month delay. Because we are trying to move into a new home and couldn't wait, we canceled the order and found out that Lowes would not issue a credit on our credit card but would only issue an in store credit for the cost ($1, 300). By doing this they have locked us into spending the money in their store when they could not provide us with what we ordered. I believe this to be unethical and possibly a violation of the Federal law governing interstate commerce.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

If that's what the store told you, call the 1-800 number on their website.
If they're the ones that told you that, I agree with the above poster and you should call your credit card company and see what they can do for you.
The return policy on their website for shipped items is a bit weird, but the backorder isn't something you should be penalized for.
