Walgreens being fired for being disabled

I worked for Walgreens for over 5 years. When an old injury started making it hard for me to work I wanted to put a doctors note in my file saying that I could not crawl, climb ladders or lift over 15 pounds. When I said this my manager threatened to fire me. They knew my physical condition but would not give me 'reasonable' accomadations. So after a short time the asst-managers to cover their own mistakes lied about my work and with out even talking to me my manager fired me. This is a company that says that it hires disabled people and is a work friendly company to work for! WRONG! Then after all of that at the last hour they could have said something about me getting unemployment they filed a complaint. They lied, I have it in writting, but still won and I have to pay back all the unemployment I received. THIS COMPANY AND THIS MANAGEMENT TEAM DISTROYED MY LIFE!

Walgreens does not allow you to print your own passport picture -they scan all the pictures that you take and removes the passport pictures so that you can pay the ### $8.99 for two pictures. The Champaign location on Green St is particularly notorious -this being campus town they think they can fleece students at there will for passport pictures, very rude staff and inconsiderate.

As an educated white male, I can confrim that they do promote people not based on what they should. My quailty of work at the CPO was not worthy of a promotion, yet they promoted me because I gave a good job interveiw. When I applied for the job that I currently have, I did not even know what the job was. My work does meet goal but I can honestly say that there are people below me that are better suited to perform the job that I am doing right now. I can honestly say that I would not recomend a job at the CPO and that I have wasted nearly a decade at walgreens. Walgreens itself though is a good company, I did work at the stores for a while and some people in the company care about the people who come to the store and the employes. I just do not believe that walgreens CPO is the best example of how goood a company like walgreens is. Please try to find a job at the store before going to CPO. CPO is a good place though to grow as an person though. You will not have another job that will test you like this job and it is the tests in life that makes us stronger. Good luck with your life!

I was sexually harrassed by a manager and I reported it to HR. The only thing he did after that was tell me that he was joking and I took it all wrong.I'm sorry, but I don't take "I can teach you things in bed that guys your age can't" as a joke. That is highly unproffesional and he still works there. He admitted everything and he still works there, even after an alleged case of rape in our women's restroom. Interesting. Yes, my manager said I was irresponsible right in front of me to another employee. Another case of being unproffesional.

Wow... for an "educated white American" you sure are a an elitist ignorant ###. Take it from someone who IS ALSO an educated white American, you're a dick. Do you work in AZ or FL? Did you ever work in the store? If you did, then you'd know what its like to REALLY work in a environment that's not conducive to concentration. Suck it up. What does your race have anything to do with it? Are you 100 years old? That sort of attitude is pretty old-school. Wake up and smell the 21st century, white people are the minority and we aren't any more important than any other ethnicity. In fact, I'd be willing to bet your ### stinks like everyone else and after you die the world will still turn without missing a beat.

...and you, above. I've been working for Walgreen's since I was 16. The manager was rude to you the day you quit, because instead of having any sense of ethic, you called in and quit without giving two week notice. I know "its just Walgreens" and I'm sure they made it without you, but it sucks when people leave you hanging and everyone else has to pick up the slack when its already crazy busy. Sorry your paranoia had you thinking that everyone was making fun of you, but they probably weren't. Most likely the reason you're so shy is because you lack confidence and you start out thinking people don't like you without any reason. I know how that is, but I got help and I'm over it. You're just making up excuses.

You're all a bunch of whining ### and chances are you have a hard time accepting responsibility for yourself in most if not all aspects of life and somehow you're partially responsible for the very things that you are complaining about. So do some self reflecting and get over it.

Did you know that promotions at the cpo are based on who you know not what you know. ou get no conseideraton unless you are in the loop. The people that they promote are just as useless as the people that they alredy have in these positions. Pharmacists are treates like 2nd class citizens, and so called "specialists" run wild laughing and talking not allowing pharmacists to have ample concentraton. It is not a good place for an educated white american, male or female.

I feel the same way about the Walgreens that I used to work at. Not neccesarily bullying, but they would say hurtful things in the office when I was on the floor, and I could hear them behind the photo counter. I just quit my job today and my manager was so rude about it. I'm a very shy person, I can't confront people. So I called in saying that I quit because I had to focus on school [I stood back my senior year because of stress related to family matters and the other employees at work.] He was really rude, saying: "Why're you telling me this over the phone? You're not coming into work at all tonight?" No I have family obligations to take care of. "Yeah sure." he said, afterwards I told him I was coming in on Thursday to pick up the three checks that I have been waiting for. "Yeah, sure, whatever." He hung up on me. I'm eighteen years old. I've been working since I was sixteen, and the expierince working under him and the other managers wasn't all that pleasant. Now I just hope that my checks are in.

Walgreens unfair dismissal

my name is Deana Aleman I worked with Walgreens for almost 2 years. Durring most of the two years i feel like i have been treated unfairly & crule. I am a single mom with a son who has special needs. When i was first hired on I told management that i could only close on Fridays due to his sleep apnea. The first PIC worked around that for me & i worked every Friday night. The new PIC & sr tech keep giving me attitue & tellling me that is not fair to the other employees. I brought a medical excuse form his doctor & still got attitude & rude remarks from them. I have been having problems with them for over a year. I have gone to management, & district mgr & even loss prevention, with still no help. The district mgr told me there was nothing he could do due to the fact they begged her to take the PIC position. Loss prevention did an investigation in which she did not speak to other employees & pharmasist whom have witnessed the treatment in which i was received. lp told me that she was told by the Pic, sr tech, & store mgr that they didn't like me. She said that there wasn't any specific thing just that they didn't like me. I have been trying to get transferred to another store for at least three months. They were only giving me anywhere from 5 to 10 hrs a week, so i had to go to other stores for hrs. They would not sign off on the transfer. I felt as if they were trying to get me to quit or find a reason to fire me . Their reason for firing me was that they said i didn't get along with the other employees. Also that i sold a rx to the wrong customer on 7-3-09 but i wasn't told of the incident till a week later 7-09-09. There was never a writeup or stars incident done for this event. I asked mgr to show me the video of the incident, but he would not show me. I have called corporate several times sinnce 7-9-09 & have not had anyone call me back, eventhough i was told someone would contact me within 48 hrs. There are several pharmist & other employees that witnessed the mistreatment i received. When the names were given to district they refussed to talk to these people. I feel managent both at store level & district just ignored any of the people that would speak in my behalf. Due to the fact that they did not want to upset the PIC or Sr tech at that time. Any time i tried to talk to someone about what was going on it was twisted around to come back as if it was my fault. I feel that an investigation into this will show that i was unjustly terrminated. If some of the pharmasist & employees & customers were talked to it will come into the open that i was not at fault. All i have wanted was for them to sign off on my transfer to another store. I enjoyed working the company & its customers all i want is my job back so i can provide a life for my son.

my name is pamela shoulders and i worked for walgreens for almost six years. in the six years that i have been there i have had five diffrent store managers. i was just terminated today and feel that i was terminated because somebody didnt like me. i belive this because with the first three store managers i never had one write up for customer complaints in four years. we got a new male store manager about a year ago and i had six customer complaints from customers who have said that they had prpoblems with me every time they shopped there i felt that this was wrong because if they had a problem with me every time they shopped there than why did they all of a suddan decide this store manager was better to complain too. this store manager was transfered to another area store and we got a new store manger about a week before halloween and i thought the complaints and the write ups would stop because i had changed and felt that i was happier and alot nicer not that i hadnt been before but these same customers still complained and said that they had problems with me all the time. i feel somebody at the store or company level didnt want me there anymore because it seems kind of strange that nobody from district or even the first three managers ever got a complaint then all of a suddan i have 10 write ups in a year for customer complaints. something just doesnt add up to me.

Walgreens ms freshour

Ms. Terry Freshour, terminated me under her own personal vendetta against me. She has prior complaints about this type of behavior and no one wants to address this. I was terminated because of a holloween costume. The cashier marked the costume down to the same price as the second one i was buying at the same time. They had seventy five percent off signs up. I even made her walk me to the costums and she pointed to the adult costums. I asked to review the tapes and they said no. They would not let me prove my casse. this has had a bad affect on my life and my self esteem to know that you can get fired from a job just because the manager says so. I know alot of other managers how would say in my defense that i was a good worker. She had only been with that perticular store for three weeks. If any one can give advice on what to do. My heart just wont let me let in go because, this wasn't right. HELP ME PLEASE

Walgreens employee relations

My Husband and I both worked for Walgreens at different locations. They say they are a family oriented buisness. This is not true. My husband was staying at home with our kids and he called in because my youngest son was sick. Instead of them telling him they understand and take care of him they told him he better come into work now or they would repremand him. Considering that I was already at work for the day this put us in a sticky situation. State law will not allow any sick children in their daycare facilities.

Another thing we were moving and he told them the days off he would need, which was just a weekend, a month in advance. When the time came and the schedule was out he was scheduled to work. When he confronted the manager of the store about this she stated that there was nothing she could do about this. So he proceeded to ask another manager if he could switch with him and he said Sorry I can't I have strict orders to not let anyone work for you. Needless to say this was very discriminitive and he ended up quitting the job.

I on the other hand stayed at work. I ran into a lot of problems with the managment and employees there at my job site. For instance my children were in daycare and they got sick often. Maybe Once a month. After a couple months of me staying at home and missing 1 day a month I was told that if my kids were sick again I better find someone to take care of them or they would terminate me. Which scared me because of the way the job economy has been. So I tried real hard to get to work all the time even if that meant bringing my kids to daycare sick.

The store manager where I worked was very two faced she let regular employees bad mouth and bash other employees in the office and say what ever they wanted. This is bad taste. they never put a stop to this and I am sure that employee and her are still doing this to this day.

I ran into a confrontation with another employee who always discriminated against me. For about 5 to 6 months I put up with the put downs. I put up with walking right into work and being told to do this and do that before I even got a chance to put my stuff down. I was always real nice and never made any comments or told anyone till it got to the point were I could not take it anymore. It was not until other people started realizing what was going on and told the management of her behavior that they finally transfered her to another location but I am sure she is still doing this to someone else she decided to bully around.

I was always asking for help and I was continously ignored. I felt like they just did not have the time to teach something that they should have took the time to do. I ran into a confrontation with another empolyee who was walking all over me and I finally said something and did something about it and she ended up yelling at me and swearing in front of customers and then grabbed all her stuff and left. I was the one in the end who got repremanded for her behavior and got a final warning which was only my first write up ever. The managment went on and on and pointed the finger at me how this was my fault and I should have shut up and dealt with it. this employee is also the favorite and is the one that bad mouths all the employees. I just feel like they are one sided and do not give the right ear to listen to both sides of the story. They should that is their job. After being bullied by the managment about this situation I finally decided that I could not mentally handle working for them anymore and put in my 2 weeks. But that week when I was there noone talked to me not even managment and I felt like an outcast so I walked off the job. Which is wrong but it was horrible I felt horrible. I will never ever go back. Even though I know they would not hire me for what I did! But they are to blame!

I do not recommend anyone working here and would never refer anyone in the worst time of need to either. They are the worst company to work for ever!

I doubt this was "resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.", as it was an employee and unless you paid her $1.0 million for abuse in the workplace, I do not feel it was resolved.

I always review my time card for approval at end of pay period, but lately I have noticed that the hours I worked are not the same as the hours that were submitted. I am short of at least 30-45 minutes. Not sure why store manager is doing this . If I was scheduled for 32.25 hours and I worked 33, .50, that extra time is deducted so that whatever hours i was scheduled is what i get paid for, even though I was working, whether my relief was late or other circumstances. This has happened several times and not sure if its just me or other employees have this same issue, and I havent said anything for fear of it just being me singled out. Not quite sure how to handle this but will someone please check district 717 and review time cards .

The biggest complaint I have is the favoritism one SL has to work 7-9 days straight before getting a day off she whined to the manager he said no one should have to do that well then my schedule was 9 days straight I reminded him what he said about Noone should have to pull that and he said well sometimes you got to.Really cause mines always been 7-9 straight and the one SL gets off almost all the weekends they're rotated between her and the asst when I said where's mine I got Well nobody's really quarenteed weekends off.Full of crap be fair and partial in your scheduling and maybe your stores would run alot smother. So I put in for days off ahead of time and I get told I need a SL who's going to be here. Really I've requested 7 days off in a year and suddenly I'm not there enough to keep my position. Why give us PTO if we aren't allowed to use it.while others have 2 sheets if you print out their request forms. That's all from poor managers who don't really need the position their on cause they are clueless as to how to run a store.Parking their butts in the office all day everyday and no idea about what they're employees are doing.

There is a Claus in the policy that states any team member who works more than 20 hours a week can get 1 holiday off a year only 1 you can't have the day before the day of and the day after but you can have that holiday. It does not say due to black out dates it has to be before Nov and after Jan 1.That's how I get Christmas with my family.

Walgreens is the horrible place to work. This company only cares about money. The don't care for there employees. I work with bullying managers who try make my life a living hell. They think just because their managers they can disrespect employees under them. I literally pray that company goes into bankruptcy and never recovers. I seen they way the make money off of seniors. They say the care for their well being? No they care for your money that's it. Horrible place, horrible staff who bully employees into quitting.

Walgreens inconvenience and poor customer service

On 5/22 my ex called me to say that he was out of Josh's prescription due to dropping them in the gravel at his moms house. He asked that I try to get more before he was to go on vacation with the kids. I called the doctors office and they agreed to write a new one even though it was a little to early to get it. This prescription is a narcotic. It's used to help with his asperger's. On 5/22 Between 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. I dropped a prescription off for my son Josh Meadows. 5/22 at around 6:30 I received a call saying that I couldn't get my prescription filled and they would call when it could be. I was a little concerned and called Walgreens back. At first they said that I would just need to wait until closer to the date I needed it because it was to early to get my prescription. They suggested I call back around 5/27. I waited and called in again. This time they told me that Josh's doctor would have to call in saying that it was ok to fill the prescription since it was a little early for filling. I called Josh's doctor and she called in to Walgreens. Walgreens called me back and told me that Cigna would pay for the prescription since it was still to early to fill. I decided to wait until June 4 to get it so insurance would pay. When I called Walgreens back they told me they lost the prescription, but was still looking for it. They said I would have to get another one from the doctor if they could not find it. I was told that the pharmacy manager would call me if they could not find the prescription. I never got a call and it's now June 5. I called around 9 this morning to see if I could pick up the prescription. They said that they never found it and that they called my doctor to let them know I needed a new prescription form. I called the doctors office and no one from Walgreens ever called them. I had to call back to Walgreens to have some one place a call into the doctors office. I have to leave work early today so that I can pick up this prescription again. I am very upset that they are not concerned that maybe an employee took it. I am getting talking to Cigna today to make sure I don't get billed for the missing prescription. Walgreens acted as if they did nothing wrong and that it was my fault. They even said that it looked like the dad picked up the prescription. I know for a fact that did not happen. So that makes me wonder if the staff there can be trusted. I may be changing to CVS or Rite-Aid.

Walgreens cashier walked away

I was in the check out line and the employee, a very young boy, looks at his watch and says "Oh No, I need to be outa here, he paged another employee and started to walk away ..I asked him whats up? He replied that he had returns and had to leave at 9:30 (it was 9:12), about ten minutes past, then I heard voices. The young kid yelled to someone that there were customer's in line.An older man stated loudly"then ring them out !" the young guy said he need to leave and the older guy said loudly "you don't just leave, you wait until I get there" the younger guy said "No I gotto go at 9:30. The older guy yelled "its not even 9:30. Then an older guy about fifty or so showed up and rang everyone out and apologized. I think the older guy should not have have been so hard on the kid. I told him he was a idiot. Yes the kid was irresponsible but there was nothing that the manager could really do about it. I also think the kid was very young and didn't know any better. He was about 16 or so.

9:12 is not ten minutes past. It's 12 minutes past. Actually, there was plenty the manager could do. He could give the kid a write-up or fire him. Managers are in charge of the cashiers. They can do stuff.

I am unsure what the loud conversation mean, but it sounds like the manager was concerned about customer service and being responsible. You state that the manager apologized . There was no threats or name calling toward the employee. The employee just walked away from customers . I think if I were manager, I would have said a bit more to the cashier. I do not think the manager was an idiot at all.

Walgreens employee benefits

Walgreens sent out their benefits update for May 2009. In big letters it said “Combining Good Business Practices with Caring for Our People”, which would lead you to believe they are going to improve employee benefits. Instead it was about how they are taking away employees retirement medical and prescription drug plans. This will not just affect people who have just started but many who have been with Walgreen’s for years. People who had been promised these benefits are now having them taken away. One of the comments in the paper was, “Our goal is to reallocate our money to provide benefits to the greatest number of individuals at Walgreens.” Does that mean the CEO, board members, and the upper levels or management?! Hey Walgreens for a business that promotes families you do a really bad job for your employees!

Walgreen's is a big evil company owned by Mormons and doesn't care about people AT ALL. i will love the day that this company falls. my spouse is employed for this company as an ASM and they drag her to the point where she cant even function at home. I hate Walgreen's and she will be quitting soon. she is also apart of a class action lawsuit against this evil company because they constantly work their formally known EX-As past 44 hours without any compensation on a regular basis. she used to be proud of working for this company when "the Walgreen's family" actually owned it because the core values were uplifted and everyone was happy. now that he is dead and the Mormons own it, its all about a dollar and nothing else. The SMs and DMs are blood thirsty agents doing the dirty work (slave driving) for a falsely concerned corporate. Yeah, they have an anonymous employee hot-line but it doesn't do any good when they turn around and notify the person being complained on and tell them who did the complaining. This just sets a person up for retaliation. Ive never seen such evilness except in politics. I have one question Walgreen's. Why the hell are you forcing the topped out EX-As/ASMs out the door and keeping the SMs who really don't do a damn thing and make the most in the store? STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! my wife has never had performance issues in her entire Walgreen's career, now all of a sudden she does.what a way to do someone who used to bleed Walgreen's! OH wow, you may win the battle, but you you will never win the war. I am devoting my self to getting the word out about this company on every website that i can post on, every newspaper that will hear, and every contact i have (and i have millions). the only way to stop these people is to boycott them and force them out of the united states. it may have started as a decent company but its a hell bent sweat shop today. stay away from this company!

I agree with this. Walgreens was very selfish with benefits that were given to me while I worked as a third shift cashier making little more than min. wages. I slept in my car for 3 days so I would not miss work because the snow was so bad I could not get home and then back to work, and do you think management appricated me. NO! When I had 3 days of vacation due me management tried to steal it from me because they would not let me take the days I was owed and I even tried to ask for them on the days the manager Mr Slentz told me I had to take them. Then when I got really bad sick and had to be out of work and then my husband had a very bad accident(in the burn crital care unit for 8 days) management was worse. They implied that I was putting on (blood pressure was 220/144) and that my husband get hurt on purpose so I would have to be out of work. When I went to management and told them that my doctor told me that i needed to get off night shift before it killed me, it took 4 weeks for management to even try to move me to a different shift and still was going to make me work another 8 straight 10 hour nights and still made excuses that management could not find anyone to do my shift I had to let Walgreens have it because my health and life was more important than making them money!Really a family orinted business and concerned about the health of their employees...Talk about the new campain they have to make their employees healither...That is a lie and a joke.

I hate working for walgreens. This company does not care about the well being of anybody except themselves. The corporate portion of walgreens, along with some store managers only care about getting work done with the least amount of people (thanks for burning us out!), They want so much work done in a unrealistic amount of time and man power. Work the top bays!, All bays in one shift by your self . This company better wake up or a lot of employees will be leaving when the economy gets better, oh, but thats probably what you want, apparently it only takes 3 people to run a store. GOOD LUCK! Welcome to Walgreens

you have got to wonder if Wasson and the other powers that be could live off what we the at store level shmuck make...Think about it we are doing their suggestive sale their fundraising and what do we get in return? a poor paying job, cut insurance that still fattens the higher ups pockets stress from the customers wondering why we can't remember all the coupons and sale since there are WAY TOO MANY. One item can be on three different sales and they must each have their tag. I wish for a month they could come to work as a store level and and NOT be known for being a higher up...and get the crap dished on them...then maybe they would re-consider some of their decisions...I know...the bottom line is GET THE MONEY...but geesh...It used to be a great company. But here of late...they seem awfully GREEDY.

Walgreens -- all I can say is "Rewire for Growth" is the equavilant to "Rewire for FAILURE". Corporate is clueless and it is clear and I wonder what "Walgreens" family thinks of the tabacole of the "New Walgreens". Geez it use to the "Pharmacy America Trusts". They certainly cannot state that anymore. How many jobs have they outsourced to INDIA and the PHILLIPINES (or are going to = 800 American Jobs LEAVING). So I guess this is why the new slogan is "Theres AWAY". Which should further read "There's A Way - FAR AWAY from WALGREENS". So sad!

I think it was sent to the DM's and discussed between them and the store managers. I was told about it from a good friend, which was later confirmed by my store manager (independently). Apparently corporate knows that the way they handled things was a screw up! It makes me wonder about what exactly went on when Mr. Walgreens walked in and quit. Due to corporate's response to his sudden retirement, one get's the idea that he wasn't very happy about the way things were changing. Now they are trying to promote these changes to us (in good light). They must think we are idiots. How insulting! Welcome to Walgreens!

I am in complete agreement. This is just setting the stage for more changes to come. The plan is to have the most senior employees "retire" so the imediate cost of benefits is reduced. I have been employed for 17 years and I am very dissatisfied with the company I used to constantly praise. The way the company has treated is employees is totally contrary to it's core belief system. Just a recent example of there inappropiate decision making is the way they desided to announce reducing the assistant managers hours being cut. There mistake was eventually recognized, by a little know e-mail that admitted there mistake. Just wait Walgreens employee's the great company we once were is slowly breaking down. As for the management staff, be on the look out for more changes to come. Pharmacists should be observent as well, the new POWER system they are installing now means FEWER pharmacists necessary to run the every day operation. This is another example of core beliefs down the drain. For those who have been around for awhile do you remember, "Nobody waits, " well now they have desided to change that too. They surveyed and discovered that a waiting customers is a small portion of there buisness so now they believe the one pharmacist will be able to F4, fill, counsel, etc. without the help of additional staff. WELCOME TO WALGREENS!

A Pharmacy Tech named Harris was the rudest individual I have ever encountered at a walgreens after telling me that this location was committing insurance fraud (yes he actually said that) he told me he would have to get back to me about my medication. I'm over 60 and need daily medication so I'm left out in the cold, confused about what in the world to do next...

Walgreens customer service

Dont ever sign up for auto-matic refills for your mail order drugs and never leave your credit card on file or it will cost you in the long run. Make the call every three months to make sure your Doctor still wants you to take the medication. I made the mistake of signing up to have two maintenance drugs mailed to me every three months, leaving my credit card on file, and then I called two months before the next shipment and cancelled one of the drugs and then right before the next order was to be filled my Doctor took me off the second drug, and would you believe the CSR never processed my first request, and they mailed me both drugs and hit my account for $130 for drugs I can not use, and they will not take them back and will not provide a refund, even for their error for not processing my first request. Their response is they have no record of my request, but who makes a record of something they did not do, and they will not accept the drugs being retuned to them, even if you do not open the package and return it to them in the same package they sent to you. If there was not a security issue with the package when they sent it, why would there be one when it is returned, and I am the liar for saying I called in the first place. They don't even consider they may have made a mistake, so I pay for their mistake and mine

Walgreens incorrect pricing

Typically the store will print a sale flyer offering a deferred cash back coupon ("Register Rewards") with a purchase of multiple units of a given product. A frequent offer might be five 12 packs of canned soda for a price of $15, and receive a $5 deferred cash back coupon for use on a follow up visit. The sale flyer will list the eligible brands (i.e. 7-up A&W, Canada Dry). The problem lies in that Diet A&W Root Beer will ring up at the sale price, but Diet A&W Cream Soda does not. This has 2 implications…..First the sale price of $15 is not applied, as at least one of the purchased units doesn’t ring up correctly. And second, the deferred cash back coupon also might not print as it doesn’t recognize the purchased product as part of the sale grouping. This can have a major effect on the ultimate cost of the purchase. In my experience, I have had this issue many times. Each time they have had to over-ride my transaction to end up at the ultimate price and coupon offering. Despite this, they make no effort to rectify the problem, and continue to charge unobserving consumers the incorrect price. I have returned at later dates to make additional similar purchases, and the same errors occur. It disgusts me to think how many people are paying more than they’re supposed to. I have witnessed other consumer’s dealing with similar issues.

Walgreens don't understand insurance

My Blue Cross plan is a Health Savings Account. We get $1400/per year/per family. After the $1400 is used up, we pay cash for any doctor visits, lab, RX etc.
I guess the Walgreens was out of the generic blood pressure meds I was prescribed, so they took it upon themselves to give me the equilivent brand name med. Their reasoning was: "I ran it through and it was free!". I explained to them that everything is "free" until I use up my allotment. She couldn't understand it. I told her I did not want the brand name meds, that I wanted generic, and could wait for them to order it. She said "well it's free, so I can't figure out why you want the generic", and slammed the phone down. They keep trying this every month, so instead of having $4 taken out of my health savings account, I get $62 taken out. What a dope, I transferred all my prescriptions to Walmart, which will probably be another messed up situation.

My situation is opposite. The generic version of my medication wasn't approved by FDA. So it wasn't covered by my insurance company while the branded version is covered.

The dope at walgreens filled it with Generic version and made me pay $35+ as opposed to $10 copay. Shouldn't she have had the common sense to check which version is covered and which isn't?

Because I realized this after taking one capsule, they wouldn't exchange or refund.

Walgreens inconsiderate company

I have been working at Walgreens for five and a half years. I have learned every area of the store, except pharmacy. This includes photo, cosmetics, main, sims and have worked the stock room. I constantly watch people get hired in the company one day and then a year later are management. I have busted my ###, not goofing off, listening to mangement, being polite to the customers, etc. When I went for an interview for assistant manager I was told in exact words, "You don't have super star quality." The thing that irks me even more is that my EXA- step below store manager, doesn't even know photo, which is mandatory for all management. How do you know more then even some managers and get turned down? I am not one to complain about much. I haven't ever gone to district and complained about how our store manager belittles everyone in the store, thinking that he is smarter then everyone else. He has very little respect for people in general, including the customers. He has made every woman in our store cry at some point. The sad thing about it, this is the type of people district looks for as management, not kind and considerate people, but people who treat their employees like ###. It's not that I didn't have "super star" quality, it is that I don't have "###" quality. Another thing is they push for the employees to sell the "Item of the Month" so much, that some people have even been threatened to lose their job if they didn't sell more. That is the reason they gave me for not getting a mangement position. I didn't sell enough. They want the employees to pester every single customer that walks through the door. I thought it was a freaking pharmacy not Telemarketing. I didn't know the quality of my worth was based on how much I sell. We have actually had customers complain about being bothered every time they come in, to buy the the Item of the Month. People don't want to be haressed when alot of them are elderly and just coming in to get their perscription filled. All in all, I think Mr. Walgreens would be disappointed to see his family company become just another victim to coperate america. Walgreens used to care about their employees, now they only care about opening stores and sucking people of every dime they have. They look at loyal employees as dispensable, and have even used the economy as a means to scare them into doing things they didn't have to do before. I would not recommend this establishment as a place to work.

I work at Walgreens, 1 hour photo, and they are slave drivers. Trying to get as much out of you as they can for $8 an hour. They didn't train me very well, I was rushed through my computer training, ppls, by my store manager. My district manager came to the take care clinic one day and ended up getting sent to the hospital. When I saw the ambulance out there for him I was like "good, hope he's in there for a while." I usually am a nice person and don't think like that but this guy deserved it for putting such stupid asinine expectations on his stores just because we have a recession going on. And why don't I see any black people working at Walgreens? They know that black people won't take their [censor] so they just don't bother to hire them. If a black person is reading this please apply at Walgreens, don't get the job and then proceed to sue them for discrimination. You will be my hero. The problem I have with Walgreens is that they only put 1 person in photo at all times, ALL TIMES. Then when you call for help no one gives a [censor], but your expected to help the front register all the time. Then the photo head gets mad at you when you have too many late orders in the system. It's like they think you can split yourself in half to do every thing. The district manager gets mad when you have too many late orders and NO ONE waits in line at walgreens, so you must always take customers from the front registers. When I am running the photo lab a manager walks by with a cart of [censor] for me to put away. Like I don't have enough to do already. Horrible slave drivers and our district manager is the son of Satin. I have worked at many retail stores, even Walmart, and Walgreens and Lifetouch Photos are the worst.

I'm a Walgreens assistant manager and I totally agree with everyone here. I've been labeled "bad" because I informed my store manager that I didn't want to be a store manager, I wanted to work in the district office. Instead of that being a good thing, I was told that I was wasting a space in the store for someone who could be a store manager. But the funny thing is that they are slowing down the new store opening rate, so they really need people like me until the openings speed up again. Too bad for them. As of today I'm looking for a new job.

Yeah, Harold, it's business but it stinks.

Walgreens is pretty far from a perfect place to work and honestly you could do a lot better than management. I for one do not aspire to the lowly heights of walgreens managment; they don't get paid very well for what they do and you have a 75% chance to end up working for some satan-spawn who believes they're put on earth to be as big a ### as possible...all in the name of the bottom line.

I could go on ALL FREAKING DAY about this kind of crap but it really is everywhere. Even if you did complain to district nothing would be done. I have a few walgreens horror stories I could share but I won't be cause I like my anonymity.

I have two pieces of advice for you:

1) Go to school for a healthcare related job; high demand, often reasonable school requirements, much better pay than walgreens.

2) Take a deep breath before you go into work, put on your best smile and remember that you are better than the people who perpetuate this type of atmosphere at work. Think of your time at walgreens as temporary, the troubles as transitory; make your mantra "this, too, shall pass".

Finally, ask yourself a very important question:

Do you REALLY want to work for someone who says in all seriousness "You don't have super star quality" in reference to a management position making about 12 to 14 an hour...

You're better than that.

business and management are all about the dollar - thats how it is, if you want that position - better get tough cause its like that everywhere.

go try to sell cars and be nice - see how that goes?

or go to best buy and sell electronics - need to push the extended warranties.

its business.

Walgreens neglect/irresposibility

I have used Walgreen's website for the past few years and can log into it with no problem. However, the information states that my doctor must be contacted...etc; which is simply not true. My prescriptions are called in. I did not receive an email that they were ready as before (of which I have previously called concerning the very same complaint of Walgreens neglect and site errors). Calling the Walgreens on Magnolia Dr. in Tallahassee, Florida where I shop, they advise me they are not responsible for website. They must input my information, so this is obviously a falsehood, and the same "excuse" I received from them with my previous call of their neglect from that same pharmacy. I have called the Home Office on the prior complaint for the same problem, and they advised me that the pharmacist must input the information. So I am being referred back and forth. I find Walgreen's website completely useless, as it is never up to date, fails to notify me by email as it used to in the past, as well as failing to take responsibility for "dropping the ball" in that which should be a "seamless" operation. It renders the Walgreen's website totally useless and the staff untrustworthy. After this being the second time I have had to file a complaint with Walgreens and them failing to accept their mistakes and correcting them, as well as rendering the website useless for customer information and sevice, I am trying to find another pharmacist to handle my needs. I am retired now, and use to be a Quality Control Specialist for Dupont, and there is simply no excuse for such nonsense.

Walgreens puts your information in the computer, phone number, address, email address ect. As long as all that is correct, you should be getting emails and phone calls with no problems. We DO NOT have any sort of control on the website at store level at all. You are wrong in assuming we do.

Dear Minus: nobody was talking to you in the first place. They're referring to the original post.

As for the original post, the pharmacist has absolutely nothing to do with the website, and the way you worded everything probably confused the hell out of the corporate office, too. The pharmacist DOES input your info for the store records, but that has absolutely no connection to the website.

The stores generally have nothing to do with the website. Not sure who told you otherwise, but you should know that people at the corporate level rarely have any information about how things actually work day to day at a store level. Their knowledge is all theoretical.

But all that is academic in the face of your mindless idioacy. Neglect? What? When did you suffer neglect? How were you wronged? Because there was a system glitch and the website didn't send your information to the pharmacy like it was supposed to? What do you think you are entitled to here? I hope that if I am able to retire someday that I'll have better things to do than submit baseless complaints in an effort to denigrate a company that hasn't done anything to me.

I'll bet the people at the store you frequent will be glad to see you leave forthe last time.

You sound like an idiot. Whether you have a valid complaint or not is impossible to tell because you try to sound intelligent by putting a bunch of big words together and instead come off as completely confusing.

Believe me I am no defender of Walgreens but the pharmacist does NOT have anything to do with their website and we aren't given any information on how the website works. How about calling in your refills if you find the internet too difficult to use? Or are you too busy writing overly wordy accounts of a really stupid complaint?

Walgreens price gouging

oN 4-6-09 I went to the E.R. for an infection. It was after 9:00 p.m. when I was released so I had to go to Walgreens instead of my pharm. For 30 capsules of PENICILLIN they tried to charge me $108.71. (SCAM) I know my prices and I refused and left. The following morning I went to my pharmacy and was chgd. $29, 99. BIG DIFFERENCE. (it was generic also) I e-mailed them twice about this and they won't return an explanation. Walgreens is famous for over charging...DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT GIVE WALGREENS ANY BUSINESS OF ANY KIND..

One- did this walgreesn you when to have your insurance on file? Did you bother to give them your card? Did you ask for the generic? All of these are your fault. Walgreens charges the same as every other Pharmacy it's up to your insurance, wheither they cover the drug or what your co-pay might be. Some times the manufactuer changes the drug causing the one you used to get to become unavalible. Maybe the new drug costs more or is not covered. Either way... Shut the hell up

I have to second this, as Walgreens overcharges on prescriptions an absurd amount. The only reason to even go to Walgreens is that they have a lot of stores that are open 24 hours; that is the only positive to filling prescriptions there.

Walgreens pharmacist attitude problem

Went today to pick up prescriptions for my wife. She has been fighting cancer for 3 years now, and I have been the one to pick up her meds, i am her husband.anyway, this is a two part gripe, the first being the kid in line in front of me.He was picking up a prescription. The pharmacist (Ruby)asked him the address and did all the right things. She rang his stuff up, and he also had a bottle of Robitussin .She refused to sell him the Robitussin because he was underage. My question is how he can pick up a prescribed medicine but not one off the shelf? It is my belief he should have not been sold either product.
Now its my turn.I give the name, address, and date of birth of my wife.Ok, she gets her meds off the will call shelf, asks me address again and proceeds to ring it up.I take out my visa and swipe it, she says "why dont you have insurance?'I explained that her medicaid was up for renewal, while she was in the hospital, 9for 21 days, with kidney problems due to the kemo)and sent in the forms and havent heard from medicaid since. She gave me a stare like I just robbed a bank or something, withdrew her arm back with the meds, and did not want to give them to me, and I heard a sarcastic hmm, then she handed them to me.Sorry to dissapoint you Ruby, but I am a 40 yr.old man, myself and my family are respectable people.I dont know who you think you are Ruby, but you do the same thing as someone who works at Mcdonalds, so lose your stinkin attitude, and have a little compassion for others that are sick.By the way, this is not the first time I have put up with her little attitude problem.Last time my wife went without her meds for the weekend because Ruby did not look it up right on the computer.

"Pharmacist" refused to fill my prescription. A 24-hour Walgreens at 12:30 a.m. June 19 refused to fill the prescription my physician wrote for medication to be filled June 19, saying I would have to wait until 7 a.m.

5301 Ringgold Rd in East Ridge, Tennessee.

Waiting in pain until the arbitrary time she deems to fill my prescription. Unethical and unconscionable behavior - this "pharmacist" should have her license revoked - she is supposed to fill prescriptions written by physicians, NOT determine whether a patient should receive her medication as pres.

I can beat that..I had recently had double back surgery...they told my husband the doctor didn't write the RX right. My husband being very I'll was in no shape to argue..I had only been home one night and needed my small RX for 1 week of meds..I sat at the window so sick, finally this women slams the window open, and I explained that my doctor being confused, asked if she'd call him..she snarled no at me and closed the window, I was so sick and weak, I'd begged her just to call. I ended up back in the hospital as she was so rude and upset me so much I'm still here..My other doctor took one look at me and said she should of called 911 when she saw me..What a horrible and mean spirited women, and at the holidays..her cruel and judgemental attitude made me so upset, I was hospitalized. And could she care, no way! My doctors here think I should sue..and we're thinking about it.For those of you thinking of going to Walgreens, I'd reconsider if you value your lives..

My dad passed away from a horrifying death and when I went there to get my clonazepan but a higher daily dose they didn't want ro fill it, treated me like a junkie and humiliated me in front of everyone until they talked to my Dr. Instead of an apology what I got was an rx tossed at the tech and the pharmacist marcia talking about me to her peers. Nasty pharmacy.

You should sue for what? She didnt call the doctor for a prescription, which you had already verified had been written incorrectly? Or for not magically knowing 911 should have been called? How is that a judgement call to be made by a non-trained, random person, after a very brief encounter? Depending on the mistake you realised the doctor had made, it may not have been able to be rectified without an inperson visit (not handled over the phone). It sounds like the lady may have had a bad attitude but what in what your statement reports would ever, even in the sue happy U.S., justify a lawsuit? Because she was a "mean spirited woman"? I hope we are not at that point these days.

PAIN and SUFFERING. Since you are not familiar with with these concepts, I will explain. Even Pain and Suffering is a legal allowance in a suite. These can be difficult to quantify. To be awarded for pain and suffering, one's original argument (cause of pain and suffering) must be proven. Causing pain and suffering is not against the law. Only the method used to cause pain can be held to scrutiny. I am all in favor of upending this logic and legally flip the table so those not merely responsible for causing pain, but ALLOWING suffering to continue be held to a lesser degree, ACCOUNTABLE for ALLOWING pain and suffering to continue by, knowingly, after aware of a situation, ignore the person in need. This would provide the necessary framework to discourage crimes of neglect involving someone in medical need.

It may seem like pharmacy staff is just out to be mean and cruel to customers. But I have to inform you as a Pharmacy Clerk, there are strict rules for filling medication. Such as obtaining a doctor’s order. Also pharmacy staff are overworked especially these days and a little bit of patience and courtesy goes a long way.

Like she mentioned, "the woman had to go back to the hospital because she wouldn't give her any of her meds!" Do you get that? You probably don't understand. When you are older and sick, you think back on this and see if you want to be treated this way. Believe me, you won't want to be! You have NO IDEA what it is like to be sick and in need of medicine! You could have helped her somehow, someway! If she died or almost died because you didn't give her her meds or at the very least find someone to help you with it OR called 911, then you deserve to be sued! And yes, she is right!

That’s a 2 way street! The pharmacy techs are rude at the Reading , MA Bolton st location. Every time I call, they get irritated if I ask too many pertinent questions regarding my family’s medication and costs! I was just out on hold without consent because the tech was flustered with my straightforward questions regarding cost of my husbands medications. “Well, if you want to wait on hold for the pharmacist- you can”. No, I want YOU to do your job and answer the easy questions that you should know and not be rude and unprofessional.

Walgreens policy is that someone can verify your address and pick up your prescription. Wether they are 15 or 85 it doesn't matter. Cough syrup and other cold medicines cannot legally be purchased by minors. So yes, someone can pick up your prescription but not cough syrup. Don't like it? Write your senator to see if your opinion will change the law.

Also, when she drew her hand back and said "hmmm" after you said you didn't have insurance, she was most likely thinking how she could save you money. Walgreens has a RX savings club for people with little or no insurance. But, since you were probably being a jerk to her, she decided not to waste her time on something that was clearly not going to be appreciated. I know I wouldn't waste time for someone who wasn't appreciative. Since I'm sure you don't know this either, retail pharmacies make more money off from a RX that is not billed to insurance than one that is. Reimbursement rates are crappy and insurances never pay the total amount, leaving us with a cost to basically eat. You sliding your VISA card has a very good reimbursement rate. If you weren't so preoccupied with being so offended all the time, maybe you would notice.

In general, if someone comes up to you with a crappy attitude to begin with, are you going to make every effort to be nice to them? Not a chance. We may work in retail, but we are not door mats. We do nothing more than McDonald's workers? Hmm. I don't think many people with Doctoral degrees work at McDonald's. I sort of feel sorry for you because you are so ignorant. Who do you think checks for interactions between medications? Most doctors have no idea. They don't go to school for that. WE do. So if we are nothing more than McDonald's workers, essentially you are saying we are not needed. Go ahead, take all those meds that your doctor wrote together. You might not be breathing well enough to write another ignorant complaint.

Granted, you have a Doctoral PharmD degree but you aren’t an MD. I have known a few that sound like you Amy, it’s called a Napoleon Complex, in some part of your life you fell short and it scarred you and the disappointment in yourself is transferred to your Customer Service skills, or lack thereof, respected Pharmacists explain in layman's terms why certain drug combinations should not be given or taken together-and because you are not an MD, you cannot fix the mistake but you could have called the MD on your Customers behalf because your Super-smart Brain (or the software in Drug Database, more likely) caught the drug interaction error and another medication could have been prescribed by the MD to relieve the suffering YOUR Customer was in. Maybe that’s not in the Walgreens Handbook or maybe you just have a lack of concern for people who don’t have “Doctoral”or the one you couldn't get, Medical Degree, but try going that extra step to make the difference in your Customer’s life and you may get a little more respect. And, the comment you made about your Customer’s breathing and not being able to breath to write another ignorant complaint shows the lack of professionalism/integrity you possess and will disqualify you at your future McDonalds interview. I truly hope these comments go to your Corporate Office to be reviewed.

Doctoral degrees? Hmmm, I doubt it! Some pharmacists sure don't act like they have ANY kind of degrees! Only a doctor would have a doctoral degree! Look it up!

I just noticed another answer that says, you do need a doctoral degree. I had also seen one that said you didn't, that was why I commented on it. But, that makes it an even more serious offense to people that have doctoral degrees! Meaning, you all should understand the plight of the seriously ill! You are supposed to treat them with respect and kindness and do "whatever" you can to help them! I repeat, there is still NO EXCUSE for some of your treatments, attitudes, meanness, or insensitivities! After all, you have a doctoral degree, right?

What? Many people earn a Doctorate degree in many fields of study. A Doctorate degree does not mean you are a medical doctor, rather a person who earned a college degree in a specified field. A doctor of education, doctor of dentistry, a doctor in English, a doctor in pharmacy, a doctor in music, yes all doctoral degrees but not necessarily of medicine. The current graduate degree for a pharmacist is a Doctor of Pharmacy which means they spent more time in college beyond a 4 year bachelor's degree which is an entry level degree for college students.

Listen stupid:

A pharmacy tech requires a hell of a lot more than just working a cash register...you often end up doing a lot of the same work as a pharmacist while having to wait on impatient sick people who are often whiney jerks. In fact, many techs are actually in school to become pharmacists. You probably didn't know all of that, what with having your head shoved up your ### and all.

Look, I'm sympathetic to your current familal difficulties but your complaint is asinine. You don't like the person who checks you out? Go someplace else or get your meds when she isn't working.

I'd be a little more willing to be on your side if you'd mentioned that you tried to talk to a manager about your problem or if you didn't submit that massive wall of text filled with grammatical errors and silliness. But as it is you come across as someone whose ego got bruised and decided to rant about it a little.

My patience gets bruised by idiotic consumers like yours on a daily basis and this is my little rant against you. Works both ways goober.

Walgreens discrimination

I am an Assistant Manager at store #2986. I have worked with the company for almost 8 years and truly enjoy my job. But about 1 year ago I was transfered to the Summit store where Mr. Mike Hill is the manager. I am a black female and has worked my way up in the company and am very proud of my accomplkishments. Since being at this store, Mr. Hill has on several occasions complained and not been satisified with anything that I do. He has written me up several times for things that the other managers have done and they have not been written up at all. Today I was written up for being sick and for not calling him specifically. At the time that I was sick, he was on vacation in Texas and I was sure not to disturb him on his vacation. Several months ago my car broke down on the highway, no fault of my own and was stranded with no way to call him and he wrote me up then, even though I did call the store and talked to the manager in charge.
I have documentatiom for all of my accusations and plan to consult an attorney if necessary.
Mr. Hill has no reason to be treating me in this manner and I will not continue to allow it. I am from Dist. 292 where Stella Napoli is the DM and I also plan to call her about this matter tomorrow.
Please accept my complaint and know that something has to be done with store managers who show discrimination to their employees. This man has not hired a black person in our srore since I can remember and there a lot of people like me who are talented and willing to work hard and be committed to your company.
I hope to here from you soon. Paula Portis [protected]

I'm sorry but I agree with Aaron. I'm also a manager with Walgreens and I have an assistant who regularly steals time (going to lunch without clocking out, ect.), never does anything in the store unless the store manager is present, and is basically useless but she's still there day after day. I found that the safe was $50 dollars over after taking it from her and found that one register was short $50, so I fixed the problem and got my final written and a 3 day suspesion because as my store manager put it, it looked like I was hiding a cash handling error. It wasn't even my error. So there are a LOT of injustices going on now in Walgreens, especially when they put a hiring freeze on all assistant manager positions.

Let me see here, you found double standards at walgreens...SHOCKING!

Actually, the only thing shocking about this is that you seem to think it has anything to do with you being black or a woman. I hate to break it to you lady but there are double standards EVERYWHERE...don't even get me started on some of the ones at my store. Actually I won't post any details about my store because I want to keep my job for a while. (hint hint)

The fact is that most of these things happen because a manager is too lazy to enforce equitable standards. Other employees that get away with stuff while others are punished for the same things tend to do so because they have done something to garner some consideration from their manager. Often this is nothing more than showing up for work every day for a long time. Seniority is the most common excuse for what people get away with...you'd be surprised.

Also, I'd like to know what kinds of horrors the cashiers, photo techs and cosmetics folks at your store are subjected to. Of course, being the self-serving person you seem to be there is no mention of double standards that apply to them, though there most likely are several serious instances in a store that is run by a manager like yours. I don't see you even acknowledging this fact, meaning that you are either oblivous (and therefore part of the problem) or you only care about yourself. Honestly, I wouldn't be this offended if you hadn't tried to play the race/gender card, and your lack of concern for your subordinates tells me that you lack the moral fortitude to be a good manager. There are people in walgreens who have to put up with MUCH worse than what you claim to and they have no one sticking up for them.

And finally, to whom is your post directed? Do you think this site is owned by walgreens or something? Obtain a clue please. You make my comment in another post about clueless managers more valid than it should be.

you should not post all that information here, cause your store manager and or district manager might get a copy and fire you for something stupid. most retails jobs your an employee by will and can get fired for pretty much anything. you should speak with them directly and let them know how u feel.
