My experience with Westgate Resorts was extremely negative. They lured my family and me into a sales presentation with promises of a free lunch, a week-long hotel stay, and discounts on attractions. None of these promises were fulfilled.
Instead, we endured over seven hours of high-pressure sales tactics. The representatives misrepresented the timeshare as a lifetime discount program with investment potential and refused to let us properly review the contract. They pressured us to sign, even as my young children (ages 5, 5, and 7) were left hungry and distressed.
Afterward, I discovered that the supposed benefits were completely false, and I have lost $3,000 and on the top now facing over $30,000 in costs for a product that provides no value. Westgate Resorts’ practices are unethical, predatory, and exploitative.
Recommendation: I strongly advise others to avoid Westgate Resorts. Their tactics violate consumer trust and Florida laws. Do your research and steer clear of this company.
Formal Complaint Against Westgate Resorts
Subject: Deceptive Sales Practices and Misrepresentation
To Whom It May Concern,
I am filing this complaint to address the unethical and deceptive practices I experienced at Westgate Resorts on September 17, 2023, during a timeshare sales presentation at their Orlando location (6145 Carrier Drive, Orlando, FL).
Summary of the Incident:
My family and I were invited to attend a sales presentation with promises of:
• A free, high-quality lunch.
• A week-long hotel stay at our choice of location.
• Discounts (50–70%) for Orlando attractions.
None of these promises were fulfilled. Instead, we endured over seven hours of relentless high-pressure sales tactics. The representatives misrepresented the timeshare product as a lifetime discount program with investment potential, claiming benefits such as:
• 70% off hotels and cruises worldwide.
• Guaranteed resale value and potential rental income.
When I requested time to review the contract, I was denied. I was pressured to sign electronically without seeing the full terms, under the threat that the offer would expire.
Key Issues:
1. Misrepresentation of the Product:
• The benefits and discounts described during the presentation were false. After signing, I discovered that none of the promised discounts existed.
2. High-Pressure and Coercive Sales Tactics:
• My family, including three young children (ages 5, 5, and 7), was subjected to distressing conditions. The promised meal was not provided, and there were no breaks for food or rest during the extended presentation.
3. Violation of Consumer Protection Laws:
• Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA): Prohibits deceptive practices and misrepresentation.
• Florida Vacation Plan and Timesharing Act (Chapter 721): Requires transparency and disclosure of timeshare terms, which were obscured in this case.
4. Financial Harm:
• I have paid $3,000 upfront, with over $30,000 in additional costs expected over the next decade for a product that does not deliver the value.
Requested Resolution:
I request the following:
1. Contract Cancellation: Full termination of the timeshare agreement without penalties.
2. Refund: Reimbursement of all payments made to date.
3. Investigation: A thorough inquiry into Westgate Resorts’ sales practices to prevent further harm to consumers.
I have documentation to support my claims, including correspondence, records of payments, and evidence of misrepresentation. I am happy to provide these upon request.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
