Yahoo! Article

Please remove the article "White people least likely to wear masks consistently, study finds" by Abby Haglage. It is filled with comments and assumptions about people based on their race.

While the study may be factual, although I'd doubt the margin of error was considered to arrive at a statistically significant difference, much of the article and corresponding slideshow draw broad-based conclusions that will only reinforce the "them" principle. We shouldn't see race, but this type of article not only puts it front and center but also stokes resentment.

Desired outcome: Take down "White people least likely to wear masks consistently, study finds" by Abby Haglage

Polling 6, 000 people in calif is not a reason to say its true. Yahoo I believe is spreading hate crime by printing this and insiting other races to hate whites. Withdraw the article and apologize please.

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, the virus continues to wreak havoc on the U.S., forcing schools and businesses in majorcities to shutter. Now a new study from the University of Southern California is shedding light on one problem that may be contributing to the continued spread: inconsistent mask wearing.

The research, released on Thursday by USC's Center for Economic and Social Research, comes from the group's Understanding America Study, a nationally representative online sample of more than 6, 000 respondents. While the vast majority of those polled agreed that masks are an effective way to combat COVID-19, just 51 percent said they consistently wear a mask when hanging out with people outside their household. The numbers become even more stark when divided by race.

White people, the researchers found, were the least likely of any race to wear a mask consistently, with just 46 percent reporting that they wear one while in close contact with people they do not live with. That was compared to 67 percent of Black people, 63 percent of Latinos and 65 percent of people from other races.

Dr. Uché Blackstock, founder and CEO of Advancing Health Equity and Yahoo Life Medical Contributor, says the statistics aren't unexpected. "It's not terribly surprising, " Blackstock says. "The videos that we've seen on social media and television of people refusing to wear a mask or demonstrating against it have been predominantly white."

Anti-mask protests have indeed by dominated by white people, many of them wearing T-shirts or waving flags that bear the name of Donald Trump. The former president was openly opposed to masks early on and did not publicly wear one until late July. He consistently devalued them throughout his presidency, saying, "maybe they're not so good" in August and asking a reporter to take one off in September.

His comments spurred large anti-mask demonstrations across the U.S. over the summer, including one in Austin, Texas, led by InfoWars' Alex Jones. While major protests against mask-wearing seem to have died down, smaller groups continue to demonstrate against them, with one marching through a Los Angeles mall two weeks ago and another group trying to shop maskless at a Trader Joe's in Oregon last week.

The groups operate under the belief that mandates requiring masks — which have been found to reduce COVID-19 spread by as much as 80 percent — are an infringement on their rights. Blackstock says that this line of thinking isn't often shared by Black and brown people, who have long seen their rights stripped away through systemic racism. "I think for white Americans to be in a situation where they're being told what to do, for some of them it's very difficult to hear because that is unusual, " she explains. "Whereas for many Black Americans, I can speak for myself as a Black woman ... we're used to being told what to do, or having restrictions placed on us."

AdChoices
On top of the privilege that may be fueling the disparity, Blackstock says that Black Americans and Latinos have shared experiences that lead to a strong sense of community, which may not always be true for white Americans. Experts have noted that many who refuse to wear masks are operating more from an individualism stance than one of collective responsibility. In fact, one recent study by the Brookings Institution found that 40 percent of Americans who reported not wearing a mask said they chose not to because it was their "right as an American."

"The essential values this country was founded on are individualism and personal responsibility — and this idea of community is not something that is necessarily inherent in American culture, " says Blackstock. She believes that for this reason, many white Americans may view mask-wearing from a narrower lens. "Even though wearing a mask is something that protects you and protects people that you love and other people in your community, it's seen as an infringement of your rights, " she says. "Instead of being seen as something that could help others, it's being seen as a threat to your [freedom]."

Despite the damage this narrative has done, she and other experts in the COVID-19 sphere seem hopeful that President Biden's administration will ignite a collective response that embraces mask wearing. One reason she's optimistic is an executive order that Biden signed this week requiring federal employees to wear masks while on federal grounds.

"When you are in these buildings and institutions that are part of the government, you have to wear a mask. That is an expectation, and maybe that will translate to how people feel when they are outside of those institutions in the public as well, " says Blackstock. "I think that symbolically it was important for President Biden to execute that order. Although he can't mandate it for every state, for every American he is making this symbolic gesture of saying, ‘Masks are important.'"

Yahoo! Search feature

There is nothing wrong with your search engine but that's the page I was on, when I noticed one of your advertisements (ABC Underwear) had an ad for men's underwear that featured a man photographed from the neck down, wearing pink boxers with his penis and scrotum hanging out the front.

I don't think I need to go into how inappropriate that is. Not to mention that's it's on the first page of your search feature, where any child could see it because I don't think things are censored on the results pages, are they?

I have enclosed a screencap.

Desired outcome: Please take it down and/or move it somewhere inaccessible to minors

Yahoo! News items

Why is it that you are perfectly happy to allow all journalists to write their opinion on a daily basis ( their opinion does not make it a fact ) without allowing us the public the right to question their opinion. Just because I and many others do not agree with their opinion does not make our questioning offensive or racist or bigoted. You have removed our right of free debate, what kind of democracy do you believe in when you only allow one side to have their say.

Desired outcome: Remove your lock down of free debate

Yahoo! Yahoo News

Stop running face news articles on Yahoo News. News journalist and reporters are suppose to be neutral and get to the truth not be partisan about a story because they don't like the sitting president or politicians. The election was rigged and there is so much evidence to proof it. Also, most of the news articles have bad grammar and misspelled words. Your reporters need to go back to journalist school and learn how to do their jobs correctly. You Yahoo also need to stop pushing one side of the story which is the untruth side.

Desired outcome: Stop reporting fake news and twisting the truth.

Yes. BLM is not a left wing extremist group like most right wing extremists think. It is just an organization trying to get their voices heard and most people who criticize it for being a Marxism left wing extremist group are just racist [censored] who support Trump and don't care about the community. Your money will be put to good use if you donate.

Yahoo! Your editorial choices

What's wrong with you? Half the country disagrees completely with the way you frame almost every one of your articles, as well as your political point of view. Why don't you take a journalistic approach, or at least present a balanced view of the issues? Why does it appear that on Yahoo!—a search engine many people choose because they're familiar with it—that leftists virtually ALWAYS "own" people with other opinions? Why do you insist on almost always going with headlines in which someone from the left "owns" someone with another point of view?

You are brainwashing people, and that should be a morally unconscionable idea to all reasonable, fair-minded people. How many times in the past four years, just as an example, have you gone with a headline in which a conservative "owned" someone with an opinion that differed from theirs? Have you ever, even once, run a headline in which Donald Trump "owned" someone from the other side of the political aisle? Our country is being destroyed from the inside, and you're one of the key contributors to its destruction.

Show some balance. Be fair. Hire people with different opinions. Just because you think something, that doesn't make it so. Give ideas other than your pat, predictable ones a fair shake. If any of you are truly deep thinkers, you'll sleep better at night.

Yahoo! Yahoo finance conversation boards.

I'm sick of writing true facts about a stock and other things that never get published. It takes a lot of time to write a good true article only to be thrown away and never published. I think if you submit a article that's common news and they throw it down the drain that you should at least get an E-mail stating why this was unpublished.

Yahoo! Posting fake news

It is appalling to watch yahoo continue to post FAKE news [censored] on the election. None of you social media platforms or the fake news media have the authority to announce the election winner. About 80% of Americans have lost complete trust in your one sided news crap. Quit being idiots and post real [censored], like we don't have a winner yet. Y'all will look like fools when you are WRONG! Trump shouldn't concede with the [censored] he continues to hurdle. I hope his first move is to defund the media! That would be the best day of 2020.

I agree. I vomit in my mouth every time I access my Yahoo email account which I've had for 25 years! If it wasn't for that and the fact everyone has my email, I would exit Yahoo. They're security sucks, and the liberal fake news is like I said, word vomit that we're forced to endure. Yahoo! The removal of the comments section.

Yahoo is either afraid of what people think of the articles or they just don't care! How is the public going to get a rational view of an article without the comments? I agree that not every comment is right or fair, but that's what the comments are for! Yahoo needs to get a grip and bring back the comments!
