I purchased a 2009 fully loaded nissan altima about 11 months ago. Recently, it started making a loud popping noise when I drive the car and when I get out of the car. At first it was every now and then. This week it makes it every few minutes. I took my car to the dealership this morning and the service guy told me that the '07s and up are having that problem but they would check it out. He knew exactly what noise I was referring to. He just called me back to state that there is nothing that they can do about the noise. It has something to do with the exhaust expanding and it is normal. If this was normal then every car would do this. How can I get someone to pay attention to this issue? Apparently there are other complaints on this same issue. This is not normal for a brand new car to pop every few minutes.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I totally know what you are talking about. I too have a 2009 fully loaded Altima and I get the same noise. I spoke to my service manager and he told me that this is a problem that cannot be fixed. I am lawyering up for this one. I am not going to pay 450 per month for a car that I personally feel that is unsafe to drive. If they knew of the issue for the 2007 models and forward than this should be disclosed somewhere.
I have a 2008 Altima Coupe 2.5 S and it's been doing the same thing since day 1. I read on another blog that it was the ABS braking system "adjusting". Dealership couldn't answer when I asked about it two years ago.
My Nissan 09 altima has been making the same noise
but Nissan dealership said they couldn't figure it out, so
I called the Nissan Consumer Affair [protected], nd the
rep told me if the car has been diagnosed w/in 30 daysregardless
if it's been diagnosed previously for the same problem, take the car to
Nissan nd have them take a look at even if they can say what's causing
the problem or not, call Nissan Consumer Affairs nd they will pass the
complaints to their regional rep to look at.
I have the same problem with my altima.. I took my car to two different dealership.. one of the dealership is saying there is no problem.. the other one was saying it has been an issue with new altima but they cannot do anything about it... they told me it is from exhause.. but certainly this is not normal.. This is the only car it has this problem.. this is my their altima... altima generaly has pretty good exhause system.. whats up with this one... I cant wait to return this car...
I bought a Nissan 16 months ago, I've been driving for 6 months, its been in the shop for 10 months and nobody knows whats wrong with it, - First they say it was the timing, then the, coil pack, then computer, now back to the timing, I put in $6, 000 already, now they want $1, 500 more, and i owe $8, 000. What shall I do?
I have the same problem with my Nissan! It scared me at first, thought my car was going to blow up! I took it to the dealership and they replaced the exhaust system but still making the same noise. They told me to bring it back and they would keep it for a few days. I can't be without a car for a few days and of course they don't give loaners anymore. So frustrating!
I am so happy to read that I am not the only one with this problem. I have been a loyal customer of Nissan for the past 10 years and this has swayed me away from their product. My only suggestion at this point is to get lawyers ivoloved. They sold or leased a faulty product willingly. I was told that this in normal..what a line of crap.
On May 16, 2011, I brought my parents to OC Nissan of Garden Grove to help them look for a used car. We test drove a 2009 red Nissan Altima with 50, 150 miles on it and my Dad liked it. I negotiated with Kaylee Tran and Mark Kongchan on terms and pricing. We finally settled a price, Mark confirmed that for this price they would replace broken hub caps, detail, provide a free 1 year oil change service, and make this car Certified Pre-Owned which will extend the warranty from the original manufacturer’s warranty of 60, 000 miles to 100, 000 miles.
When the deal was settled, I went to sign paperwork and asked Andy (Finance) regarding my Certified Pre-Owned warranty and what was covered, he didn’t answer directly about it, instead he tried to up sell me extended warranty coverage. Amidst all the overwhelming paperwork and signing process, I left without noticing that they did not provide me a Certified Pre-Owned paperwork to sign. Thus, I returned on May 21, 2011 to request for a detailed list of covered items under the Certified Pre-Owned warranty and my proper documentation. Kaylee and Mark said Nissan does not have any of that type of documentation available to customers; they only go by VIN # when warranty service is needed. I firmly requested once more that I needed that type of documentation, because verbal warranty is unheard of. Mark and Kaylee then said they will call their Headquarter office to request Certified Pre-Owned brochures and will contact me for pick up or mail it to me by May 24 or 25.
On May 25, 2011, my father took the car for alignment service at OC Nissan of Garden Grove and checked with the service department if the dealer’s system noted this car is Certified Pre-Owned. To our surprise, this car never was Certified Pre-Owned as Mark and Kaylee have agreed based upon our negotiated terms. I then emailed Kaylee on May 26 to notify her of such information that I’ve learned. When she was back in the office on May 27, 2011, I called her in the morning to notify her of the warranty issue and asked if she had mailed me the brochure. She quickly said she’ll check and will call me back and that the warranty brochure was mailed out to me on May 25-26. I waited until the end of the day, but there were neither emails nor phone calls. So on my way home from work on May 27 to speak with her directly about this issue and to raise my concern that this is unethical business practices. When I arrived the sales team said that Kaylee left early and Mark was suppose to meet me, but after waiting for 15-20 minutes, he was nowhere to be found. Finally, another sales rep said he’ll call Kaylee to find out what was going on so he could help me. After sometime, a Finance person said to follow him to his office to sign the Certified Pre-Owned paper that Andy did not provide during the initial contract signing stage. Today is June 4, 2011, and I have not seen the promised warranty brochure as Kaylee and Mark had stated they had mailed me.
I am very disappointed in poor customer service and extremely unethical business practices of this dealer. This not only made me lose faith in OC Nissan of Garden Grove, but it also made me doubt the practices of the Nissan brand and if I would ever refer friends and family to purchase from Nissan again.
I am the unlucky one too ! That popping noise made me so frustrated, don't know how to do 'cause I had paid in full of this car already, I would tell all people DON'T BUY NISSAN ALTIMA, they lost their reputation, should be recall for 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5s :(
This dealership is a liar and scam! I bought new nissan altima at this dealer when I signed for the contract the saleman told me that my apr was 1.9% and free 3yrs of warramty and free oil change but ended up they have already added to the contract then I found out I came back to the dealer to cancel that warranty and they said they did. Today 3 years later I called the headquater to ask for the payoff amount and I have aldo asked them what was my original loan amount they told me the amount that was before I cancel the warranty which means they did not cancel and deduct that amount from my loan and also I asked about my interest they told me the interest is higher than 1.9% apr that I was agreed to. This place is totally a liar and scam. Buyer beware of this dealer make sure you ask for all document and break down pricing. Don't let them fol you like they did to me. Better off stay away from this dealer
I just bought a fully loaded 2009 Nissan Maxima SL car from Carmax a few weeks and just like you guys, it's doing this extremely loud popping noise. It is driving me absolutely nuts. It's all I talk about. I took it to Carmax to today, they said it was the heat shield and the "reshaped" and it should be fixed. I happily got in my car and drove home and heard poppin the whole drive home. It is not fixed. I'm so disappointed. I don't even want to make the first payment on this car. The sad part is, outside of this annoyance, the car is wonderful. It has everything I could want in a car and more. I just don't know if I can live with this popping sound for 5 years. #Sofrustrated
