Formal complaint and grievance concerning:
-A defective product (handbag) purchased at Belk in Greenville, SC,
-Extremely poor customer service from Manager, Catherine Mocerino
-Threat to contact Lost Prevention – implying the merchandise was stolen
My niece, Roslyn Nixon, a former Belk employee, purchased the above pictured Dooney & Bourke handbag with her Belk credit card for me in September. By Thanksgiving in November, the striping on the handbag straps began to come apart on both straps.
I have D&G bags from years ago and the quality is still intact. I am questioning if the product was defective or perhaps counterfeit, especially since it has been discontinued while the same bags in other colors has not.
Upon returning the bag last night, 1/11/2017, I was told there was nothing they could do because I no longer had the receipt and the computers ONLY went back to October for Belk credit card purchases.
In addition, there was never an apology and I was greeted very rudely by Manager, Catherine Mocerino. She was abrupt and very dismissive with my concerns. She even talked with my niece by phone and was still rude and defensive – saying “the bag has been discontinued and we don’t know what you paid, so there’s nothing we can do.” But referenced contacting Loss Prevention to see if they could assist. Loss Prevention is the department that deals with thefts and the implication was that I had stolen the handbag.
I have an impeccable reputation in the community and I am incredibly offended by the implication of stealing.
I don’t believe there was nothing that could have been done to assist me, especially since I was only returning the bag because of the defect and had actually planned to purchase a different bag for a higher price and pay an additional amount of money.
I have since decided to only return the defective bag and have my niece’s Belk card credited with the amount she paid. Please assist in helping me with this process.
I am very disappointed with the rude, dismissive, and unnecessary treatment I received while simply trying to figure out the best way to return a defective product and replace.
I will also contact the Better Business Bureau, social media complaint sites, and my own personal social media sites to share concerns and pictures as well in fear that perhaps other customers may have had similar complaints and questions about the quality of Belk products.
Finally, I will no longer shop at Belk and that’s unfortunate for both the business and myself. I buy hundreds of dollars of MAC make-up monthly from Belk and will now have to now order on-line or buy from another retailer.

horrible customer service / bad business
Went to Belk's to purchase menswear. Saw an are that advertised 11.99 on all stock. Picked out a few shirts to try on and purchase. Well, they rang up a different . Asked to speak with manager, she never came out and would not price adjust. Showed the associate the actual sign and Where we picked up shirts from. He said that 11.99 only applied to shirts with red writing on tag under 55.00. I don't work at Belk's so I am not privy to their convoluted marketing and pricing policies. Belk's BEWARE your shady practices and horrible management will drive your bottom line into the red. Will take my money and excellent credit to another store.

I purchased colone yesterday and the associate given me a coupon 20$ off 20$, so today I came to cary town center's belk, to purchase one item which costs exactly 20$, so I was at register no any associate said hello to me, I showed the coupon code and it took 20$ off of my purchase, then associate named "laarnie" said it's unusual I will call my manager, then the manager refused to give me the item, and I am time on time telling her I wanna do one purchase not more than that you can keep the coupon, so given me hard time, investigated about coupon like a police officer, that from where you got, so I said to her in detail, and they have wasted my time and given me headache for damn 20$. And everyone was rude to me, and I am going to put in rcc, this attitude is worst and not tolarable, if the action is not taken as soon as possible, or I will go to court and file a case to close this cary town center belk.

My wife and I have been credit customers of belk's since 1990 and have become very unhappy with your stores and are considering closing our accounts. Our experience this holiday season was terrible because of the lack of sales staff, customer service to assist with gift wrap and elimination of some brands. I know that the store was purchased and I can certainly say that the change in ownership has not been for the better. Your sales staff is not very happy with the way the stores are being managed now and it shows in their performance.
consumer credit card illegal use!
Over time, I made a lot of purchases at belk; however, it wasn't until my credit limit was increased in july of 2013 that things became confusing. Since belk doesn't itemize purchases on their statements, it is extremely frustrating to navigate exactly how much you buy. This is all going to change. I believe some belk employees took advantage of this slack control, and decided to make purchases using customers credit cards. The purchases were made by someone other than the customer then billed to the customer's account. However, the items were shipped to diffrent address other than the customer's address. This done often especially during christmas season, therefore, it's not a big deal until the time comes in which every thief is caught. I had some serious questions about $345 which was supposed to have been credited to my account instead of reissuing a refund check which was lost. I pursued the refund for two months until synchrony bank said they credited my account. I have been trying to get receipts for everything I bought, since my account was in no way high enough to support what the bank was telling me. They sent me some paperwork which appeared to be very complex. Thank god I have so much college education with multiple degrees. Much more education than 95% of belk's workforce. So in an attempt to take advantage of my sicknesses, and disability, belk employees chose to send me practically nothing, and what they sent was very confusing. The good thing is that I got better, and was able to start going over the junk I was sent.In the very limited paperwork that was sent to me, I found a purchase for a coffee individual server for $179 on the account. What a laugh, I had. Neither I nor anyone I send presents drinks coffee ever. It is very bad for you. I will be informing the attorney general of my discovery, and also of belk's resistance to supplying me with supporting evidence of each item I bought. You are in a lot of trouble. Be ready for a legal battle. You f###ed with the wrong woman. I feel sorry for the culprits who chose to take advantage of me in such a serious way

On dec, 10 2016, my family and I was shopping at the bell in thomasville ga. I applied for a belk charge card earlier that morning at the belk in tallahassee and was denied. That was no problem. The associate informed me that for that day only I would get 20% off any purchases I made at any store because I applied. Not accepted but applied. So I go to the belk in thomasville ga and was rudely told... No u don't because u got denied. I was appaulled to say the least. The manager name alian delapaz was very rude an unpleasant to talk to. He kept interrupting me and was very standoffish. I was trying to explain the situation and he was more interested in wanting the associates name that told me about the 20%. Then, he had the nerve to tell me that to say.. One time, one time will I do this because this associate needs to know her job. I was so shocked at this rude behavior. I told him not only did I not want to purchase anything from this store but I will not shop at this belk store again. I put everything back and left the store. 20% off is not enough to put up with his rude and unprofessional behavior. The associate might have been wrong or was misinformed about the promotion, which she had it written down on the credit app so I had proof to back up what I was saying, but there was no reason for this manager to act the way he did. Rude and unprofessional behavior. I live less than 10 min from this store but I will travel to tallahassee fl belk if I want to shop. I refuse to shop at this store again

Merchandise, store appearance
I live in Simpsonville and your store there is a waste of time for shopping. If someone is going to shop at a Belk store they are not incline to buy handbags and shoes from China. I do realize you have a Belk store in Greenville at the mall but, we live in Simpsonville. Please do not say it's demographics because that is not true. There are plenty of high end home and Income in my area. Perhaps as a company you should rethink this area and do some upgrades on your merchandise.
The appearance of this store is trashy, your carpets are filthy, clothing has fallen off the racks and are piled up in the floor and you do not have enough employees to cover your sales floor. Please invest in a restock and recovery crew.
It's not worth ones time to visit this store for some serious shopping.

I love to shop at belk, went to the carrollton ga location seen a pretty black dress I needed but didnt have my sizez so I ask could you order it and ship it look item up was not online. So I said ok 5mins later I said can we see if its at another store and I pay for it then. Call carterville store rude, call kennesaw put on hold for 20 atlanta no answer just kept ringing after the transfer. The lady in carrollton could have help me a little better but was sorry and didnt want to help. Bad customer services.

Horrible customer service. Staff and management are very rude and unprofessional. Why would a manager that she looks like a child by the way she dressed? I guess she couldn't formulate a better comment...terrible and uneducated. I watched one manager discriminate against employees and customers. Some employees are able to do certain things while other cannot and the same goes for customers. For example, some employees are able to return items and buy them back if the price is cheaper. Why can some employees do that but not others? Also, why is it a problem for some customers to return time bought on a gift card but not others. Is it a race thing?
Lastly, Belk really needs to evaluate their staff before promoting him or her. One manager at the Peachtree Corners location has multiple comments regarding her actions from customers and employees. Do yourself a favor and shop somewhere else or save your money.

I purchased a polo jacket at belk during the summer of 2016. I put the jacket up to wear it during winter. On 11/25/2016 as I was putting the jacket on I noticed a security tag! This is unacceptable I thought. I took the jacket to a nearby burlington store. I wanted to ask them to take the tag off but as soon as I walked in, the sensors went of! I was mad because their security thought I was a theif! I was really mad now! I went home and tried to take the tag off but I had no luck and had to rip it off leaving a hole. Then I tried to find the receipt, but since I bought the jacket nearly 6 months earlier, I did not find it. The next day (11/26/2016) I drove 45 minutes to the macon, ga belk to return the jacket. I stayed at belk for over an hour! I tried to return the jacket but there they treated me like I was a theif and did not take the jacket back or let me accept it. On the belk.com website I read that items can be returned/exchanged without a receipt, but apparently that didn't apply to all the belk stores. The manager of this particular belk was mean to me and did not take the jacket because of the hole in it which was made due their employee. I am really mad due to this. I felt really embarrassed due to the behavior of the employees and manager. All of this happened because of the belk employee's mistake!

As a tourist in America I had tons of fun, as a real tourist we of course also went clothes-shopping. The time in Huntsville was great, the Belks store (I think it was in Huntsville) offered great deals and we found a lot of cool stuff.
My eye also cought the suspenders, since I love suspenders of the brand saddlebred.
Returning to normal life back in Europe I wanted to wear one of them, so I detached them from the cardboard, sadly the clip stayed at the cupboard amd broke. Since it was not cheap stuff and I expected some quality I got very disappointed. Now I am afraid to open the second one:-(. As I can't come to a store in person, I am writing this message.

As a elite customer card holder, I pre-purchased a designer purse and about $500 worth of clothes on october 24, 2016 at the new belk store in mobile. I arrived to the store at 6am for additional shopping and to pickup during the charity event. I stood in line for over 90 minutes to find that only had my purse. They lost the rest. They young lady was very rude! I also went back to find a few items they (Because some were sold out) and I stood in line for an additional 44 minutes just to be told that the registers went down. I waited for an extended 15 minutes then I left. I have never been treated so badly. I need someone to contact me as soon as possible!

lack of accessibility to disabled customers
With the exception of the main isles, the store is so tightly packed that it is almost impossible to maneuver the isles with a shopping cart let a lone a wheelchair or walker. The display tables and racks are way too close together that it is difficult for even non-disabled person to shop. My complaint is against this particular store not Belk as a whole. I have shopped at other branches without any issues.

I live in washington nc, I have been a belk customer my entire life. My grandmother worked and retired from the store. I opened a belk account and now regret being a card holder. I have been chastised by the 800#. Spent $700.00 getting my son ready for school to have the rep treat me as if I didn't have the money. Most recently I spent 1.5 hours finding clothing, perfume, and attempting to purchase boots for not one employee to offer assistance or to even acknowledge me being in the store. All registers had no attendants and I listened to the staff talk and carry on even after I said excuse me twice. After standing in the shoe dept. For 20 mins. Another customer walked over and was immediately asked if she needed assistance. I have a spinal tumor so standing around with clothes in my arms is painful, my reaction was I put everything down walked out of the store. Under no circumstances will I return.

I was excited that belk's were opening a men's store with a big and tall section so I got me a belk's credit card and went to get some things I had a jacket about 4 shirts, 2 pair of shoes and 3 pair of pants easily $500 worth of clothes the young white guy started ringing me up then stopped to go get some shoes for a white customer while I stood at the register came back started ringing my stuff up and stopped again to help another white customer I asked to speak to the manager so I could tell him why I wasn't no longer buying anything from this store I have never been so disrespected in my life.

My husband and I recently visited belk in bristol, tn at approximately 5:30 pm on 10/10/16 we were in the men's dept when we approached a sales associate with a question concerning a tie of an upcoming wedding we were to attend she was very disrespectful in her response. She was not going to help us in anyway. She never offered and when we apologized for possibly disrupting her tie display she simply grunted in response. I have never been so disrespected! Another very noteworthy complaint was the fact an obvious plain clothed security floor member followed my, husband, three year old and I across the men's department three times. When I was uncomfortable enough to ask my husband and young son to return to the car he proceeded to follow me as if I were some common thug again from each side of the men's department again three different times. We are from an upper middle class background and are appalled at the notion we would ever take anything without paying. It wasn't as if I was carrying a suitcase of a bag. It was a 10x8 dooney and bourke (Also unfortunately purchased at belk) which I on many occasions displayed in its entirety to reassure him I was no theif. To no avail I was stalked as if I were caseing the place. It wasn't till I confronted the, man (I use that term loosely) and asked him if he worked there because I couldn't find the surly brunette that scoffed at us earlier, that he backed off, 50ft or so. So sad! Now normally I would have left the store in complete embarrassment at the thought I was being looked at as a common thief but not on this occasion. I simply took my time moving from men's casual dress pants to big and tall until I found the perfect ensemble. If I was there with no intention of wrongdoing and being stalked by this security man the real thieves we're having a heyday. I've never been so embarrassed and demeaned at the notion in my life.

I've ordered from Belk website three times and every time there was some kind of problem. All three times my order was not complete and some items were always missing. I actually wasted a lot of time trying to prove them I was telling the truth, customer service was always unfriendly and rude.
I'm still waiting them to send the items which were missing from my latest order. I will never buy anything from them again, even though I really like the products. These guys are very unprofessional.
Falsely accused of shoplifting because I am a lesbian.
Falsely accused of shoplifting on 9-1-16. Detained and interrogated. It was ridiculous the way i was treated ! I was singled out and targeted because I am a lesbian and was shopping in the mens clothing Dept. I will be persuing action against all involved parties in this matter . I will not sit back quietly and allow this type of treatment to happen to anyone else.
gold pearl ring and chaffin top
Hello, I purchased a pearl ring when belk at regency mall before moving down atlantic boulevard. When I purchase the ring the sales person told me that if I needed repairs because it was a pearl, to make sure that I sent the product back into the people I purchased warranty with. Therefore, about six months later I proceeded to return the ring in an envelope to the people on the address for the warranty. When I return the ring they proceeded to keep my ring and tell me that no product was sent in it at all. When I call the company because I didn't receive a return the ring in the mail and belks also, nothing was done. Evem though it was theft within their 3rd party company. Not only did I get false information from the salesperson, I also lost my $75 ring that I paid for which was on clearance for 75% that's why it was so cheap. And the next year I purchase a chaffin blouse and thes tag put in to makw sure item was not stolen, it left a hole in the shirt the hole is still in the shirt because of them poking it. Hello I purchased a pearl ring and was not satisfied with their response of nothing. I have had a credit card with them several years and am thinling maybe I should be with dillards since they treat their customers better. stressful experience
I placed an order with Belk and when I received it I saw that there were several items missing. Belk customer support said that they will ship the missing items as soon as possible so I waited patiently for more details.
When I was already sick of waiting I contacted them myself and asked about the missing items and they said that these items were no longer in stock so they had nothing to send me. What a joke! I did not believe that all the missing items suddenly were not available!
I guess they just did not care and did not want to waste their time on me.
I'll never order from Belk again!

No manager should state anything about loss prevention. I worked Loss Prevention myself for Belks.

Michelle Barton is over that area from a Loss Prevention stand point, she may not be willing help you, she plays favorites and such, and a HUGE reason I left the company, but if you are still looking for answers give her call
