Customer Service
Issue began when I had two orders, and specifically asked them to cancel one, by giving them the order number. They canceled both, including one item that had gone out of stock
I created a new order and it was shipped on the 6th of December, but quickly it became apparent via tracking that the package was getting lost.
In every attempt to contact the company, they refuse to acknowledge they made any mistakes. In addition, while it already past the date of the expedited shipping I paid extra for, they claim that is just an estimate and they will not honor any delays.
All in all, some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Not sure why they are incapable of owning mistakes on their part.
Claimed loss: $204
Desired outcome: refund or someone who actually is willing to help.

Boston scally caps for international customers
I recently purchased four caps from Boston Scally, enticed by their appealing website and brand story. I carefully followed their fitting guidelines to ensure a proper fit. However, upon receiving the caps, I was severely disappointed with the inconsistent sizing—despite ordering the same size for all four caps, only one barely fit. Adding to the...

My wife and daughter ordered three hats for me for Christmas. They were the wrong size so I returned them. After several months and 17 emails, they still have my money, I have not received replacement hats or coupons to replace the order, and they refuse to contact me directly to resolve the issue.
Mike Arone (Owner) is clearly running his business poorly. I have been as patient and cordial as possible trying to resolve the issue. Each email only seems to drag out the process further despite simply asking for the paid amount in Boston Scally coupons. Hard to believe a business would risk their companies integrity for three hats. BEWARE. This could be your experience. VERY SHADY.
For the record, I have never once posted a negative business review online. Yeah, that bad.
Desired outcome: Can I at least get my money back?

Customer service
Sorry for the length, but it’s well worth the 1.5min it takes to read; I got 2 new caps from BOSTON SCALLY for Christmas, I realized they were too big, I immediately emailed them with the information and asked to exchange for a smaller size, surprisingly I got an answer on Christmas Eve evening! However that would be the last sign of great customer service. The individual who was responding said I could not exchange them because they were bought on 11/8/22 and not within their Xmas purchasing period of 11/26-12/25. My mother has always been one to shop early. But because I have no control over when a gift is purchased, I now have two caps (currently in production / for sale) that I cannot wear. Like I said, I’m already (was) a customer but like my most recent email said, I’ll be happy to share my experience with the company, I am a first responder and veteran, which at least in my neck of the woods is a large customer base. Besides the horribly policy, the product has phenomenal quality. Great quality is often overshadowed by horrible service. Fingers crossed they make this right.
Desired outcome: Product exchange
I just had the same response from them regarding a birthday gift. Sad to see how little effort is made on their part to grow their customer base, but rather to ensure we never return.
Boston Scally Hat
Ordered a hat using their size guide, on the 15th, the hat arrives it is an inch to big, return the hat for gift card instead of losing the 10 dollars, I finally get the "gift card" and it is for 9 dollars less than I paid, the first time buyer discount "has been used" and cannot be re-applied to a new hat, lots of run around it seems, and nearly every hat in the size I now need is out of stock. Guess they have my money and I am completely screwed since none of the hats are in stock, and I have to wait for a hat to be returned, i get notice, and i order it quick enough to get a returned hat, pay full price and pay shipping again. definitely take you business else where like Amazon, which seems to be highly recommended by the others who have had the same problem. They are a Boston Company but ship from PA?
Desired outcome: Would like the hat replaced for the same price as the hat I purchased in the correct size, and not have to pay shipping again
Return Policy and Customer service
Absolutely terrible return policy. Myself and my family have been customers for quite some time ordering multiple hats for the holidays, birthdays etc.
I ordered a limited edition hat (early for my husband's birthday) that unfortunately came in the wrong size and there was no exception in a return, exchange or store credit for the item. Yes it was past the 30 days because it was ordered for someone's birthday and they opened it on their birthday! Again no exceptions like a 20% restocking fee, partial store credit etc. And it took me multiple attempts and 2 weeks for someone to contact me about the issue with the hat size. They have horrible customer service and do not value their customers. It's a shame as we really liked this company. We will be giving future business to another hat company.
Desired outcome: Exchange or store fresit
Hats
I purchased 6 hats to take advantage of their 25 dollar off deal for buying 3, thinking of I do it twice, I basically get a free hat. The pics show such nice colors and shapes. What I received was so much darker and ill fitting. They weren't my first purchase, I previously had a hat from them that fit pretty good and went with the same size. Each hat was slightly different and one was so bad it was like two sizes bigger even though marked the same. I was fine with the slight fitment issues, figuring after some steaming and such I'd get them to work, luckily I had not started this. The worst hat (biggest), which was shown to be a nice medium to dark blue came in midnight blue, so dark it looked black. I figured I'd simply return it and switch to a different hat. No such luck. The hat was the one with the discount applied, so I would only receive a50 percent refund which means I'd need to pay the difference and lose the whole point of purchasing 6 to get the discount. I attempted several emails to "Mike" who essentially gave me the sucks to be you attitude. Sorry we can't do anything and we don't care about customer service. So, I'm returning them all, and keeping my money. If I get it back, I'm not really trusting them until I get it back. I did notice the shipping origin location wasn't Boston and from what I can tell they simply do not care at all about customers and satisfaction. They survive on the fact they have almost no competition. The few companies that make ivy caps have limited styles and colors. Wish someone who knew how to run a business would start up one and run these guys out of the market. I'd gladly pay for a nice hat and great customer service, in fact I'd pay more than I did through these jokers.
Desired outcome: They don't care about the outcome at all, if they did, none of us would be here with the basic same complaint.
They're sizing inconsistencies are pretty bad. Since they're made in China, it's almost expected.
I bought X-Small 6-panel caps- supposed to be 54-55 cm. What their manufacturer does is just make a cap that, if lucky, is somewhere between those numbers. They should either make them at the large end of the range, or in the middle. One measured under 52 cm.
Caps that far out of sizing guidelines shouldn't even be shipped out. How much does it take to slide a cap over a form and ensure the sizing is proper? Not much.
They spend all their effort on branding and marketing as opposed to shipping quality products with good customer service.
Unfortunately, when it comes to flat caps, they have more styles and patterns than any other company I've found. Just have to play back and forth to get a good fitting cap.
Cap
I purchased a Scally hat that was way to big. I returned the cap and was sent a different size. Again, the cap was to big - so I sent the cap back asking for a credit instead of the refund as stated on return page under the scally website.
I did not receive my credit voucher even though the product was returned two days ago (08/24/2022).

Boston scally customer service or lack of service.
My daughter bought me a scally cap for Christmas. The size and style was not what I wanted. We tried contacting Boston scally through their site without any response at all. Explained our problem clearly as to why we were contacting them. We tried 3 times with nothing back. Supplied the order number, supplied our contact and email address and just asked for a response. We got nothing at all out of these guys. I'm stuck with a hat that is not going to be worn at all. All I ask is for an exchange. The quality of the hat looks great and I'm sure they sell a great product from all the reviews I have read. But for me I dont think I will ever buy from them again.
Desired outcome: All I ask for is an even exchange if that's possible. The hat is brand new and just collecting dust and will eventually be thrown out or donated.
Never received credit for an exchange
I bought a hat on Nov 14 2021. I received it a few weeks later. The material was flimsy, cheap, and felt very plastic-y. Worse, it didn't fit. I started an exchange through their site. After receiving the exchange slip, I sent the hat back in the original box.
A few days later I went back to the Scally cap site to check on my exchange. My email suddenly wasn't found and neither was the order number. I have spent two months emailing them and contacting them on social media asking nicely for exchange instructions please. The chat boxes show the messages have been read, but there is no reply at all.
They have scammed me out of $50.
Buyer beware.
Desired outcome: A new hat or my money back
Wrong size
Wronge size received, zero Fs given by staff. Peaky is same as three other hats that all fit as XL. Order an XL and it's 3/8in larger than other hats from BS. Customer service blows me off with "variation" gibberish.
Desired outcome: Fixit
Return/Exchange Policy
I bought five hats from them on Black Friday. I didn't like the style of one of them and returned it. Because you can't do an exchange online, I did my return and got an email credit. I used the credit to purchase a different style and had to pay the difference from the Back Friday sale. When I emailed to tell them about it, I received a lengthy email, but it basically said "too bad". If I exchanged the same style for a different size, there would be no problem, to include shipping. However, because I wanted a different style cap, I now have to pay an extra 30%.
Their quirky sayings and the fun they represent on their website may be catchy, but at the end of the day, nothing but greed.
Needless to say, I returned all five.
Desired outcome: Honorable return/exchange policy
I order a cap for a gift but i order the wrong size. my order number [protected] reference #945717. Where do I return this cap and order thereplacement.

Better hope it fits
Purchased a hat on Black Friday with a 20% off discount. As soon as the hat arrived I tried it on and it looked terrible and was way too big. I reached out to them to ask if I can change for just a different style and of course small size. I was told that they would not honor the Black Friday price for a different item. They also said that the priority shipping that you have no choice to pay for would not be refunded. So basically the only option you have if you buy at a discounted price is to hope you have the right size. The quality of the hat itself is what really turned me off when I opened the box. There is also a restocking fee. I hope somebody finds these reviews helpful before you throw money towards this business.
Desired outcome: Honorable return policy.
Dubliner hat
Oh man 😡😡😡 super disappointed and not at all happy about any of this!
Spent $50 on what is literally a Chinese produced POS with crap stitching, crooked brim and just plain garbage!
I have $17 flat caps from Amazon that are USA made and much higher quality than this! This hat is not even close to the quality portrayed in your advertising or videos!
I should have known something was up when this shipped from Pennsylvania and not Boston! Talk about bait and switch 😡
Desired outcome: Quit the false advertising
Service and shipment
Ordered 2 new hats and paid extra for expedited delivery on the 12th. here it is 11 days later and they tell me that it has been shipped, DHL says they do not have it ( DHL service a whole other issue nonexistent) and your rep just keeps telling me to wait, last order I'll be making here
Boston Scammy Hats
The hats are not true to size and are not made of quality material like those of Hanna Hats. Also, their "30 day guarantee" is not a good one. By the time you get the hat, you have maybe 3 weeks left of the guarantee. That part is my fault. I received it, didn't open it right away, then thought about it a little and by the time I got around to contacting them about it, my window of returning it had closed. I just figured they would want the opportunity to make it right. When I contacted them to give them a chance to rectify the issue (as a couple days is not a big deal if you believe in your product and TRULY want to make customers happy), but they simply restated their return policy and left it at that. I try to buy from quality small businesses in the USA. I've been duped on both accounts. I would recommend another quality hat company like Hanna Hats instead.
Desired outcome: Would like to return my hats without a restocking fee
In mid November I bought 4 as Xmas gifts for my brothers. I gave them their at Xmas. I was immediately out of their exchange range. Fair enough…maybe I should have checked prior to purchasing. Here’s the rub- I’ve emailed them 3 times over the last 3 weeks asking about the possibility of exchanging them. No reply. I even messaged them on their Facebook site. Crickets- nothing. All we can do is make the public aware of how they operate. That may get their attention. Didn’t realize that their product was made in China. Thanks for tip on Hannah Hats.
Thanks for the recommendation; to Hanna Hats I will go.
Houndstooth pesky
Hat did not fit right, I went to return it two days after receiving it and they would only give a partial refund. Hat was the quality that they promised.
exchange/ return
I ordered a hat, it was too small. I needed it in time for the holiday. Immediately, I began the exchange process. The email response stated that is receive a shipping confirmation for the replacement item- it did not state that the new item would ship when the former was received. I inquired with the company a few days later, but they only respond once per day- and their auto response says it could take up to two days because they "like to drink beer and hang out with their families". Given the circumstance, I placed a separate order for the item, paid rush shipping, dropped the original in the mail, and requested they cancel the exchange. They couldn't cancel the exchange. That's fine, but would you believe that the exchange item came quicker than the item I paid extra to receive? And I was still going to have to pay shipping and restocking fees for the original item? They wouldn't budge. THEN when I attempted to return the extra hat, I couldn't. Because it was past their 14 day policy. No exceptions. I am completely baffled by this- never have I had such a horrible experience with a company.
My wife bought three of these hats for Xmas one didn’t fit two larges different size though she returned one that didn’t fit and received a gift certificate She reordered one and sent the gift certificate in the box to pay for the new hat she was then charged for the new hat and they didn’t use certificate but kept it and charged her account again she used pay pal and they won’t help either
scrapper cap
I agree with the other users who posted here. Boston Scally appears to have very scammy elements to them. For starters, they don't let you post reviews, always a red flag. My major complaint lies in the misrepresentation of their hats online Vs. what they look like in person. The photos make the hats appear high quality, durable, and what I would call "non-floppy". Reality is that this is a VERY thin polyester hat that has no support. Its flat and floppy right out of the box. As a result, it does not fit like a fitted hat. It fits like the floppy POS that it is. Especially for $50. Even better news is that if you try to return them, they will bill you an additional $10 for the return. Kind of shady practices and definitely a product that is severely overpriced for the quality. I give them 1/5 stars due to the poor customer service and lack of understanding in the refund process alone. BUYER BEWARE.
Their products are made in China. How the heck does China represent Boston? I ordered my product back in December before Christmas still shipping from some area in New Jersey but when you look it up it's coming in from China to New Jersey and then being sent out from there. So Mr. CEO doesn't have 1st hand on what's being done and doesn't care because it's making him money that's why there's no returns allowed without some money being paid and the fact it Has to be sent back to China.
I've made a purchase of $127.00. I didn't even get order confirmation, obviously no product either. They are an absolute scam, and of course, they are unreachable and won't reply to your emails or messages through their website.
Be aware.
scally hats
Boston Scally Company misrepresents their products as being quality hats made out of wool, in the USA. They are in fact ill-fitting polyester hats of poor quality. They even use imitation leather. These same hats are sold on Amazon for less than $15. They use Rakuten as their distributor, which is a Japanese electronics company. I don't want anyone else to get scammed the way I did, hence this review. Also, if you wish to return your hat, they only give you 2/3 of your money back, as they charge you $10 to ship it to them, and you lose $10 by having it shipped to your home in the first place. The fact that the company is based in Hanover, PA should be a dead give away - Hanover being over 400 miles from Boston. Do yourself a favor and don't purchase a hat from this company. You'll thank me later.
Do not deal with this company. I ordered two caps from them and they sent one in the wrong color and swear that they sent what I ordered. I sent the cap back and they shorted me $10.00 refund, citing they sent the correct color, which places the return the shipping charges on me. This is their recent reply:
Dec 22, 01:07 AST
"Hey Bud,
You received the correct cap in the correct color as explained in our previous emails. All returns for refunds have a $10 shipping and handling fee The fee covers all costs associated with your return(processing, restocking, packaging, payment refund fees by our payment processor, man hours, etc). The fee is only on refunds and we do offer store credit and exchanges without any fees. You can read our full Return Policy in our FAQ at: https://wwwbostonscally.com/pages/faq .
Our returns system would have showed you the full amount of your refund on the final confirmation page right before you confirmed your return. You would have had to have clicked on the white box that showed the total of your refund and then clicked confirm to agree to the refund before you were given your prepaid label.
Thanks,
Boston Scally Company"
The Customer Service group seems to take issue with returns This person who has been emailing me is holding to his statement that I received what I ordered. This Boston Scally Company is stolen $10.00 in refunds from me and is a scam and total sham.
Feel your pain brother.
