bounty advanced select-a-size paper towels

RE Bounty Paper Towel Bad Odor Complaint
I purchased Bounty 12-pack Select-a-Size paper towels from Costco located at 6100 Sepulveda Blvd. Van Nuys, California 91411 on 8 September 2019.
The paper towels have a very strong, distinctive odor that intensifies when wet but is noticeable even when dry. The objectionable smell is that of human/animal excretion (eg urine or similar).
The outer packaging and the individually-wrapped roll packaging was/is completely intact (sealed prior to my opening) and doesn't smell. The foul smell is coming directly from the paper towels themselves.
I have purchased a 12-pack of Bounty paper towels at Costco at least every couple of months for years and this is the first time I have ever noticed this suspicious, off-putting, and frankly disturbing odor.

Bounty Paper Towels Stink Update:
Spoke to product support at Procter & Gamble (bountytowels.com) at [protected] who offered to refund the cost of the offensive-smelling Bounty paper towels in the form of a Visa gift card for the amount of $24.00.
If you purchased putrid-smelling Bounty paper towels, you should definitely report it to P&G (and at least get your money back).

bounty. 2 pack double-roll towels
Today, I received a grocery delivery from Walmart which included a 2-pack of Bounty double-roll towels. Upon inspection of the package, there was a "tick-like" insect crawling around inside the packaging. There are no tears or openings on the packaging. The insect is trapped inside and crawling all over the towels. This is a very disappointing and disturbing experience, as I have purchased Bounty towels many times in the past. I am now wondering howmany times I have bought tainted towels from Bounty.
bounty paper towels
Ugh, Bounty paper towels smell like mildew. How does this get past inspection and into our homes. This product should be recalled. It does not clean, rather it leaves a horrible mildew spell behind. Essentially, using this product negatively impacts health and hygiene. Needs to be pulled off the market and apologize to consumers for expecting payment for a defective product. Looking for suggestions on the best replacement product. If Bounty is being sold to consumers, what else is Proctor and Gamble selling the is defective that we are consuming.

Yes. Bounty paper towels smell terrible (seems like) all of a sudden. I purchase a 12-pack from Costco every couple of months (for years) and this is the first time I've ever noticed this creepy odor. The smell intensifies when wet but the towels reek in a dry state as well!
I don't know how to say this without saying this, but they smell of urine... semen... some kind of excreted animal/human substance. I WISH that these towels had a chemical smell (as some commenters have noted) because I don't even want to think about why they smell as they do.
Judging by the initial online complaints, it looked like the foul-smelling Bounty paper towels were all purchased at Costco but I'm seeing more and more complaints from users that have bought them from everywhere. I wonder what a chemical analysis would reveal - gross!
They smell like cat urine when wet!
I use Bounty paper towels in my kitchen, camper, pretty much anywhere, and have for years. I was filling up the water bowl for my cat and placed one between the bowl and the place mat beneath. The bowl was a bit wet when I put it down and I left the same paper towel under the bowl for about a week (with the water changed multiple times a day). My poor cat came into the kitchen and was feverishly smelling around the bowl and refused to stay near it. I immediately pulled up the bowl and smelled the paper towel beneath, which reeked of a smell identical to cat urine. Unfortunately the paper towel was staying wet from placing the same bowl on it each day. I knew my cat surely hadn't created the smell, but he was quick to let me know it was there. I immediately cleaned up the spot and replaced the paper towel (with the cheapest Walgreens brand, which is pretty much worthless) and cleaned the bowl. After filling it with fresh water and replacing it, my cat got a great big drink! Thank you, everyone, for posting these concerns. I thought I had truly lost my mind!
I'm finding that urine smell on other random brands of paper products and toilet paper. When dry to start with. Now I have to keep looking for other non smelly products. Wonder what's up with the processing.
COMMENTER FROM CINCINNATI, OHIO,
YOU ARE VERY RIGHT, IN FACT EXTREMELY RIGHT!
I OFTEN TRIED TO LOOK FOR WHERE THAT FREAKING SMELL IS COMING FROM IN MY BATHROOM. I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS MY HUSBAND'S. YOU KNOW HOW MEN SPLASHES ALMOST ANYWHERE WHEN THEY PEE.
NO MATTER HOW I CLEAN & DISINFECT EVERYTHING I STILL SMELL THE URINE SMELL! WE DO NOT HAVE ANY PETS! I AM ALLERGIC TO THEIR HAIRS!
I FINALLY FIGURED OUT IT WAS THE BOUNTY PAPER TOWELS! I SMELLED THE URINE SMELL EVEN WHEN IT IS DRY, STILL ON ITS ROLL & WORST WHEN I WET THEM! WAAAAHHHHH!
I'VE BEEN BUYING IT, TOO, FOR THE LONGEST! BUT ONE COMMENTER IS RIGHT, I WILL RETURN THEM TO WALMART! BUY ANOTHER MORE REPUTABLE BRAND! NO MORE BOUNTY PAPER TOWELS!

Of course it does. You left a wet paper towel under a bowl of water for a week. I imagine all those germs made mold begin to grow.
Chemical
Shame on Bounty paper towels. They release a terrible chemical that initially smells like Cheetos. After researching I discovered this is something they are adding to their product. I recently spent a lot of money thinking my saltwater fish tank had an electrical issue. I soon discovered it was really a result of using my bounty paper towels from drying off my hands. It smells like an electrical fire or stinky smoke. I will never buy bounty products again. Cost me a lot of unnecessary money.
Had to throw all out chemical made my eyes water.
A friend gave us a 12 pack as she is moving across the country. I opened one roll and they stink so bad even when dry like strong chemicals! Went to my brain! Ugh! We usually buy Costco paper towels which have no odor.
Stink
Proctor and Gamble's Bounty Paper Towels give off this horrendous smell once they are wet. I always purchase the 8-pack at Costco, but the last time I did, I started noticing a horrible chemical smell emitting from the wet paper towel. The smell is so bad, that I refuse to use them to wrap veggies in, or even to pat fruit dry. The paper towels ruined a whole stalk of celery to the point where it was inedible. What is going on? I've written the company, only to receive a coupon with no explanation. Has anyone else had this problem?
Not just Bounty towels...Kirkland brand from Costco have some scent added, wet or dry doesn't matter. Last purchase finishes my need ever to go for Costco towels..
Yes I have and was wondering if it was just me! I’m not buying them anymore if this is how they are going to smell now… like other posters I don’t want to put food product on these paper towels anymore.
I also bought a large pack of Bounty Advanced paper towels from Costco that are supposed to be more absorbent. But, they are very thin and not very absorbent. They also emit a really off putting smell when wet so are difficult to use.
Mine smell like chemicals as well. they probobly recycled some toxic stuff and made paper towels with them.
I purchase my bounty towels from Target and I have noticed the exact same thing.. the past couple months, they smell really gross after they are wetted, I’m not sure what is going on either. Extremely disappointing given how expensive they are. I thought it might be a weird on off those but no, it’s been consistently like that the past few months I’ve been purchasing them so might need to seek a new brand.
The smell was too much for me. I tried to return them to King Soopers and they refused to accept the return. I left them with the store manager. I'm done unless Bounty makes this right.
We have purchased Bounty from CostCo for years. This week, our batch was tainted just like described above. I literally could not stop gagging and eventually vomited. Now, I can’t get the smell out of my nose or a taste out of my mouth. What nastiness is this foul product? After most of my life being a Bounty girl, I’m done. This can’t be healthy for anyone.
They are awful. The use to be the best soft and absorbent. They are absolutely horrible. This company should be ashamed of the product their putting out. I am going to start buying another brand. Awful awful paper towel.
All the No Name Brand and PC brand paper towels here smell like benzalkonium chloride (BAC).
It is a disinfectant approved to kill covid so companies are spraying everything with it. The air in grocery stores in Canada is filled with the chemical. I wear a 3M mask because I have an asthma attack after being in the store now. I don't why they are soaking paper towels in it but I have returned packs or just thrown them away when they smell contaminated from this stuff.
Yes! I quit using bounty because they do smell like cat pee! And what’s more Charmin that I buy at Costco also smells like cat pee. This is not a contamination they’re getting inside my house. This is something that is coming directly from the manufacturer. Home Depot also has the problem of having Charmin smell like cat pee. Nobody is telling us what this cat pee is. Nobody wants to address the problem. What chemical are they putting in this product that makes this stink like this?
UNwanted change
Sometime during 2010, BOUNTY Paper TOWELS got the NOT SO Bright idea to make the paper towels ONE HALF the size of a regular size paper towel that the consumer has had "forever"!
After 20 years?, I am switching to another brand that does not have these tiny little segmented pieces of paper towel.
FOR the life of me, WHY? I end up using TWICE the amount of paper towel to get the real size that I wanted...in the first place!
Their strategy is obvious now...using more towels requires the consumer to buy MORE! BRILLIANT Marketing!
No problem here with select-size, I always thought that was a clever idea, and many other brands followed suit! I do, however, notice that the quality of Bounty paper towels have gone completely south! They are stiff, and do NOT absorb near as much as they used to! I’m sure if I look hard enough I can find a product maybe soft and absorbent as Bounty used to be, but also save myself plenty of money, because as all before me have stated, we are getting less for more! What a shame! Was a Bounty user since before I was married…
less product and even less quality…
please fire the incompetent fool who decided to remove individual packaging within bundle packs. this prevents the customer from storing individual rolls, in a sanitary manner at various locations around the household. i would rather pay a few more pennies per bundle than storing them in an unsanitary manner. you may also check why i have gotten 4 rolls within these bundles with no perforation lines on the roll. i look forward to a meaningful respnse.
please fire the cheap bean counting fool who thought it was a great idea to stop the individual wrapping of individual rolls within bundle packs. did the idea of placing clean PROTECTED rolls at various locations around the home. HOW CHEAP CAN YOU GET. DO YOU EVER CONSIDER THE CUSTOMERS ?
A year ago, 12 rolls of 192 of "select sheets" each roll or 2304 total sheets or over 1000 sq ft. total of paper towels
Recent purchase: 12 rolls of 145 "select sheets" each roll or 1740 total sheets or 796 sq ft. total of paper towel product.
Today's purchase : 12 rolls of 131 "select sheets" each roll or 1572 total sheets or 708 sq ft. total of paper towel product.
Product is of a lesser in quality, less in volume, less in consumer satisfaction. Sorry, last time Bounty. You have lost this customer.
LESS FOR MORE IS THE NEW NORM. SCREW THE PUBLIC. THEIR TOO STUPID TO NOTICE. Not this one.
thank you for the information cause i have a school project on this so !
thank you for all the information guys i have i school project on this...!
I am looking for a different brand of paper towels now, for months now i have been running out way before my time, i have used bounty for over 20 yrs but will not use anymore, i have found you are ripping us off, i buy the huge packs which would last my family for a month, now i get 2 weeks out of them, u cheat and lie to us saying 12 rolls makes more when in all actuality the rolls have decreased in size and amount and we pay more money! this to me is bad marketing and i for one like a deal not a ripoff ...It makes me sad to see you big company's taking advantage of dumb consumers that will not notice their is less and less on the rolls...Grow up and change your marketing skills before they wake up and u have no company at all...
Yes you are right. The comment before mine is the reason I came here. I actually liked the select a size concept because I can choose how much I want as opposed to being forced to using a massive sheet for a small mess. However, select a size in itself has changed. I'm assuming the company realized people were using less paper toeels because of the size of the sheet, what is their solution to money loss ? Lmfao let's increase the size of the select a size sheet itself so the consumer uses more again. So first, , you guys make a huge sheet, then you make a smaller sheet to show people you care (even though I'm not stupid because quality itself decreased ), then you slowly increase the size of select a size in hopes people wouldn't notice. Well you know what p&g, newsflash, we f-ING notice and it's frustrating as f/$%&. Go back to normal size then and save us the hassle of paper being ripped in middle because of the Un needed dotted line. Make up your minds and get your ish together because you are losing customers daily, me included. I can't stand companies that want to nickel and dime you and slowly cap out their product in hopes customers are blind. We aren't newbies. Some of us have been using your product since the late 60s early 70s so WE KNOW WASSUP Y'ALL . boycott bounty! Shame on you greedy bas$t@rds
Bounty select a size is a fantastic idea and a good product but has now gotten wider by slightly more than an inch. This means more waste. They could have been made narrower and if I needed more I could tear off extra.
Bounty paper towels with "Select-a-size" are terrible. One piece is too small for most tasks and two come apart and you are left with useless pieces. I liked to use them instead of handkerchiefs, but with the seam in the middle, the snot blows out of the towel. I can see if you are given a choice and half the paper towels were one kind or the other, OK. I am sure some prefer the other for small spills, but we need full sheets for most tasks. Today I went to seven stores and it was all select-a-size. I bought Scott towels and if this is where Proctor and Gamble is going, I will buy Scott or some other brand from now on.

My complaint is about twice in two weeks CVS has advertised
bounty towels in their ads. Today was my second trip to buy Bounty to be told they didn't come in. The clerk asked if I wanted a rain-check. I told her I already had one from two weeks ago. I have travel over 29 miles and feel I might just as well save the money I have spent on gas and buy the Bounty elsewhere and pay the price as it would be cheaper than all this trvel for naught
The paper towels used to be excellent and now they match the cheap, lousy paper towels that are on the market. Looking for another paper towel now.
yes writing because i purchased a bounty paper towel and one roll was short of towels i purchased a 4 pack and one was smaller then the other one.
On your commercials, it shows that the spills closer to item on table. Then it shows that when you use Bounty the spill is not as close to item. (plate, tablet).
You need to work on your commercials. At least make real. Ya'll are not the only commercials that are incorrect.
I have been buying your paper towels for years. I bought a large package about a week ago (beginning of 8/2023) and they smell horrible when they get wet which is what happens when you use them to dry your hands. Why do they smell so bad?
We have been using Bounty towels for a long, long time. The last 8 pkg of triples was not what we had ever expected. Thet were on single ply and almost useless in some cases.

I recently purchased a big pack of paper towels that were completly stuck together and hard to tear. I had to cut the roll in order to use, once using them I realized they were not as absorbent as they usually are. This is very disappointing being as though bounty has been in my family for decades and only ever use your product.
Recent dramatic decline in quality and thickness. Very very sad state of affairs. Will no longer be buying.
I’m not sure how or what changed with the paper towels. They are stiff, totally different texture. I’ve used Bounty for years, not a fan of this product change
I have been using bounty napkins for many, many years, this last package I bought were not as think and absorbent. I realize the count went down which I tolerated because I like the product. But now the product is not as good as it was. Go back to old formula and I may continue to buy them
The texture has been changed to a courser cheaper material. You better change it back.
