So worth it
I never wanted to admit it to myself but I was jealous of my friends who had credit. It got to the point where my relationships were literally strained, because I couldn’t contain my jealousy. It also certainly didn’t help when all my friends started driving cars around town and I was still stuck riding the bus or walking everywhere. Part of me felt bad for how I was acting, but also, it wasn’t my fault that I had no credit. My parents immigrated here from Mexico and didn’t appreciate or understand the value of having credit. They never borrowed money, thinking cash was safer. We also weren’t taught any sort of financial health curriculum in school and no one ever talked about money, so how was I supposed to know that not having credit would make it essentially impossible for me to be a fully functioning adult?
In any case, I was desperate to get credit and even though I was able to build up some sort of credit history with a secured card, the process was just so slow and cumbersome and ended up costing me so much unnecessary money that I began to lose hope. But then I found Brigit. And what a life changing discovery that was. Brigit helped me help myself and got my score into the 700s in a fraction of the time it would’ve taken with secured cards and other products I’ve tried. It’s also so much cheaper. I used to just bite the bullet, thinking I had to pay random fees every month because it was part of the credit building process, but now I know it was all just companies scamming me into making a quick buck. I’m not usually one to post reviews, but Brigit changed my life for the better. Seriously, if you’re on the fence about this app, take it from me, someone who tried everything and got nothing. It’s worth it. You won’t regret it.
$9.99 fee debited when service is not used
2nd UPDATE: It happened again! February 26 email from Alyssa in customer service stating my account would be deactivated and no further fees would be charged, and my bank account was debited again on March 31. STAY AWAY. I’m contacting my bank, the state attorney general’s office, and the ComplaintsBoard.com. These people are scam artists who will keep taking your money despite assurances that your account has been deactivated. I would give set stars if I could. They are willing to help you out in a pinch but you repay them in money and frustration.
UPDATE: BRIGIT will debit your account for the Safety Net fee even after confirming by email that they have deactivated it. I requested on Sep. 19 that Safety Net be deactivated because I was no longer using Brigit. I received an email reply stating it was deactivated, and I would not be charged going forward. On Oct. 1, I received an auto-generated email stating Safety Net had been deactivated. However, my account has been debited on Oct. 12 for the Safety Net fee despite the emails I received. This app has served its purpose for me. Setup was easy, and requesting, receiving, and repaying funds were all simple processes. My frustration arises from the fact that I no longer need Brigit, and instead of being able to turn off the SafetyNet subscription in the app, I have to email them. Why? All funds have been repaid on-time, and I’ve never caused any drafted repayments to be returned as NSF. I’ve emailed them well in advance of the next subscription payment date to ensure there aren’t any “errors” with drafting subscription funds, but I’m annoyed that this process requires this much effort. My expectation is that customer service responds promptly, and it won’t be necessary to get any regulatory bodies intervene.
Unrealistic
EDIT*
So oddly enough, when i deleted this app after i wrote this review since it told me i didn’t qualify for the advance anymore i received an email stating i all of sudden was re-qualified for loan which is strange since my income has stayed the same. I just don’t understand this app. One week the qualification is you must make $1500 a month but then the next week it changes to $2500 just for it to change back to $1500. Why can’t you just keep it the same so I’m not wasting $10 a month for an advance i can only get when y’all feel like letting me use...I’m about to just unsubscribe. Dave and earnin app is way more realizable and worth it. I don’t have to worry about those apps constantly changing the income qualifications on me since my income STAYS THE SAME.
I thought apps like this would be geared more towards the struggling low income people who live paycheck to paycheck. From the reviews I’ve read it seems like most people use it as a pay day loan type of thing. Well apparently you don’t qualify for the loan if you don’t make $1500 a month! I recently got a notification that i am now eligible for the safety net due to me getting a raise and now making just over the required $1500 a month. I literally borrowed $80 one time, paid it back on time, and now it says i don’t qualify and now my income must be at least $2500 a month. What the heck!? Why would it jump up $1000? That’s a huge difference. Someone making over $2500 a pay period isn’t going to be worried about borrowing $80...I thought this app would be another outlet that could possibly help if i ever needed it but looks like I’ll be sticking with the Earnin app. The qualifications should definitely be listed in the description to save people from downloading it and getting their hopes up for nothing.
They are hoping you are too lazy to cancel
- They charge $10/mo for what other apps do better for free (like Earnin - seriously use earnin, you can borrow way more for free).
- If you try to cancel they make you go online to do so, and they have no buttons or links out, so you have to go find there site, login, search through the menus to find cancel
- During cancellation you have yo go through a bunch of useless hoops clicking the fine print of “yes, I really want to lose these features” just below the big green “keep my benefits” type buttons. It’s intentionally confusing and they try to force you to “pause” your subscription hoping it will re-bill later without you knowing
- If you go to rate them in the app they ask “are you enjoying your experience” if you click yes, they take you to the App Store to leave that good review, if you click “no” they re-direct you to some obscure form to submit your bad review into the ether where no one will ever see it.
TLDR; yeah, for $10/mo they will lend you $120 (and try to get you to pay more back as a “donation”) but the whole time they will try to trick you into auto paying, limit your access to cancel, and make it confusing and difficult to stop your subscription, or leave a negative review.
Honestly guys - I’m sure you make a killing lending your micro loans out and can convince yourself you’re doing good by not checking credit or not “charging interest” (even though your fees and donations scheme is probably more than interest would be if you annualized those costs). That said, don’t be dks about it, let people cancel and leave reviews. Don’t block everything behind 20 obnoxious screens and obscure the process if users want to leave. From the bottom of my heart, I hope you lose out to teams like Earnin who do way more for their users and actually provide service
Scam membership fee
I’ve been using this app for a little over a year and I think this may be the worst customer service I’ve ever had.
First, For the past couple months I’ve suspended my account due to not really needing to use the service.
Now on to the problem. Which is not the first time I’ve had this issue with them.
Back in July, I logged on to the app and got a notification that July’s membership was free, I’m assuming due to COVID and everything. So I ended up using it once that month and repaid the funds.
The first week of august I was charged the membership fee and cancelled my membership the Monday after the funds were drawn.
I reached out to customer service for a refund (considering that I cancelled and all), and they refused to refund my money after I cancelled. Their reasoning was ‘I used the app within the past 30 days’. You know the crazy thing about memberships, they guarantee usage for the following month, not back charging for the previous. So what has me completely disgusted, is that they claim my August payment was covering usage for July, but July was free at their courtesy. It’s not the first time this has happened and if I didn’t have any screen shots the last time, I wouldn’t have been able to argue my case. Even with a screen shot for July’s free month, they still refused any other correspondence even though they stole a free month’s membership fee.
This app does come in handy and I’m grateful, but they try their hardest to hang on to your hard earned money, even if you’re not using the service. Not to mention their customer service reps are so terrible and you can’t even call to fully explain the extent of the situation.
Completely unethical and false practice by the reps. At this point it’s not even the money but the principle, and lying about how their membership works. Complete trash.
Too many problems
More cons than pros! Buyers beware! First off they take the money back too soon which is so inconvenient. For example, my husband gets paid every other week and I get paid every other week but on the opposite week of my husband. So we get a direct deposit every week. So when I would request money, they would take it back like 3 days later! What good does that do me? I only work part time so my checks aren’t that much and they were taking the money back too soon. Bogus!
So I decided to cancel the subscription and when you go to cancel, the app tells you that you have to email them! What in the world?! So I email them and get an automatic response at first. A few days later after I was charged another subscription fee, I get an email staying sorry to see you go! Ok, so one month goes by and I get an email stating “reminder that subscription fees will be withdrawn on the 18th of October” What?!?! So I email saying that I canceled and that they don’t have permission, nor authorization, and I get an automated response once again saying that someone will get back to me. I reply and say um no! You don’t have authorization to take my money because I cancelled! No response! Lo and behold another email a few days later reminding me again they are taking the subscription fee! I called my bank and told them about it! They said to bring in the emails if they take the fee so that i could initiate a fraud! What an inconvenience! Just cancel the subscription. So today I see they took the fee. I will never recommenced this app and I never write reviews but when you screw working class citizens, I feel compelled to warn others. They will respond with “please email us at blah blah blah!” How bout you respond by giving me my money. Stop stealing! you get two one star only because I have to rate you. STAY AWAY FROM THIS APP!
Brigit is an evil scam. BEWARE
Updating after the developer response. If I could rate it lower now, I would.
So let me tell you how this company works. In mid-May, I signed up for the service and received $165. My initial payback date was set at May 31st, which was my next payday. Good deal!
I had to acknowledge that there was a $9.99 monthly fee, and that’s more than ok. Seems like a legit service to have! Everything is still on the up and up, seems like a cool company to do business with.
Not so fast. May 30th rolls around, and that $9.99 is charged - the day before my first payment was even due. This causes an overdraft to my account of $34.
I leave a review here and I get a developer response because something doesn’t sound quite right, and they advise me to contact customer support, and I did.
Customer support comes back and tells me, in short, “Too bad. They sent a notification before they billed me the monthly fee to help avoid overdrafting.”
I ask if that’s the official response, since the developer posted here that something didn’t sound right. They said they were telling me the same thing the developer said here and that there was nothing they could do to help.
So not only did this company cause to happen the sole reason I signed up with them to avoid, I’m now down an additional $10 that they took that caused the overdraft, on top of the overdraft, because they decided monthly membership dues (I had not been a member for a month and my first payback wasn’t even due yet) were going to be withdrawn the day before they knew I was getting paid to pay back the very first loan I took.
If you are a first time user of this app, buyer beware. Awful customer service and a terrible business practice that could easily be updated via code, but they would rather just shrug when you approach them with an issue. Stick to the other money lending apps out there - I’ve never had even a single problem with Earnin OR Dave.
A million times grateful!
I’m a student who works full time in NYC. I get paid above minimum wage here and am still struggling. I’ve been using the app Earnin which helps me take some money out of my next paycheck but when work is slow and it shows in my paycheck I was stuck was the payback happened. Then came Brigit. Originally when I downloaded this app it wasn’t available in NYC. I’ve used it about 3 times now and everything was so seamless but what prompted me to write a review today is what happened in the past few days.
I quit my job to start a new one. The plan was to start working right away but then there came problems with my onboarding and I’ve lost a week and a half of working money waiting for things to be sorted out. My last paycheck from my previous job wasn’t much. I have to pay rent on the 15th of this month and was super worried about anything chipping away at the funds I have now, and then I overdrafted because I transferred everything to another account. In came Brigit’s safety net with $95 to save the day! I had completely forgotten about the app on my phone tbh. As of today, (April 1st) I found out I’m not going to be able to start working until Thursday which puts me in a bind. I thought about my last paycheck from my previous job at the end of the week being chipped away to pay back Brigit. Little did I know that I could extend the payback date! NO APP I HAVE USED SO FAR ALLOWS THIS! This one feature honestly sets a Brigit above all the others because sometimes the next paycheck that money is being taken out from is something you don’t want to touch or have bills to pay with. For me this is a game changer. The design and functionality of the app is clean and simple to use. It’s exactly what it states and it’s easy to navigate. If you don’t want money to be transferred when you’re in the negatives or low on funds just turn your safety net off. Regardless, if you’re in a financial bind like me, this app is def worth trying out!
What is the point?
I thought the whole point of this app by its name alone it’s a bridge the gap between the time the person get paid? Well some of us don’t have traditional job actually a lot of people leave they don’t have traditional job we are freelancers for entrepreneurs in one way or another and another and in my way I can pay cash for the work that I do and I deposit a lot of money into my account every month and sometimes like this month for example my bills are outweighing my income only to this point so therefore I kind of need to bridge the gap so to speak because I still have kids to take care of just like the doctor down the street who may use your app, or at the school teacher around the block then they use your app. So because I don’t deposit anything other than cash does that mean I’m not worth the time it would take to let my account borrow some money in order to keep my kids fed because I’m not traditional like everyone else? I mean what would it really hurt to give chances to those who would otherwise have them? They $100 loss and if it doesn’t get a bag like it’s gonna say well you don’t get any more chances no matter when you pay it back if it’s one day late no more chances I mean I could understand something like that because people like me have to depend on the small little gifts in life in order to keep things flowing!, But myself as a single mother I could use some help like that but it doesn’t come from anywhere, why don’t you guys do the first want to start something like that I guarantee you you would end up a lot more business and a lot more respect from a lot more corners of the world. It’s about time that someone took the time to think about those of us who are normally ignored. Lord knows right now it would be a godsend for me to have an extra hundred dollars just so I know my kids can eat. But still we are the ones that are over looked like always. I can’t wait to support the first app that does look out for people like me!
WATCH YOUR ACCOUNT. THEFT CITY
If I were able to post pictures of their fraudulent activity I would do it along with their emails that were so unhelpful and condescending that I no longer doubt any negative review posted here.
This is an updated review where I am taking away a star because it just gets worse. They told me I wasn’t going to be charged this month for their garbage plus membership, so I said alright I’ll keep up on if I’m not charged just in case I need an advance once more because I am 100 percent deleting this absolute trash app. They turn around and pull 9.99 out of my account anyway. Trash app, trash thieves. This thing gives you 50 bucks if you’re lucky (unlucky, cup half empty/full) Says 250 but there’s a lot of stuff you’d have to do and we all know you’re here for the quick bucks not the crappy credit monitoring or anything else this app has to offer. It works, but just know on repayment your processing time will likely take longer than the days it took you to spend the 50 bucks it spotted you in the first place. Takes absolutely forever to clear a repayment. Also, it’s AI is garbage and likely won’t recognize paychecks. It’s a strange system, it’s incredibly expensive, 9.99 for nothing besides a 500% payday loan essentially. 10 bucks do borrow 50 is pretty insane. They say there’s all these benefits to membership… not really. Nothing you can’t get for free from credit karma or wallet hub or anything else. 2 stars because, hey 50 bucks though not exactly when you need it because the processing times to get another 50 is literally a week. You’ll get stuck in a perpetual loop of 60 dollars of debt( 50 plus the ridiculous membership). You’ll definitely be surprised that you had just gotten an advance and have to pay it back right away. It’s pointless and I wouldn’t use it if there wasn’t a small two day overlap I’m getting screwed on. There’s infinitely better apps such and Earnin and Dave and even Moneylion. Use those because you’re not getting 250 here.
As a natural skeptic of apps that provide financial assistance, I have always been cautious and hesitant to trust such applications. However, my perspective changed when I had a real-life experience with the Dave app. Let me share the details with you.
This morning, I had to undergo an outpatient medical procedure at a hospital in downtown Philadelphia. According to the plan, I was supposed to take my wife's ATM card to pay for the parking. In my haste, I forgot my wife's card and my primary ATM card, which meant that I had only my phone, Apple Watch, backup ATM card, and $20 in cash. When I returned to the parking lot after the procedure, I discovered that the parking fee was $26 - $6 more than I had with me. As my wife worked 40 minutes away, it was impossible for her to send me the money via iMessage, as the parking lot did not support ApplePay. I was stranded, standing in front of my car, with no means of paying for parking.
At this point, I remembered downloading the Dave app on a whim. Although I was skeptical about providing my bank information, I submitted my details, verified my identity and email address, and was surprised to see that Dave had fronted me $20 immediately. I was able to withdraw the money right away and pay for parking, enabling me to drive off the lot. Without the Dave app, I would have been stuck downtown, trying to figure out how to get my car off the lot.
Although I do not expect to use this app frequently, I wanted to share my experience with all of you as a real-life example of how this app can be a lifesaver. I never knew I would need it, but it turned out to be a godsend when I did.
In conclusion, the Dave app proved to be a valuable tool in a time of need. While I had initially been skeptical of its capabilities, it helped me out of a tough spot and allowed me to continue with my day without any additional stress. I would recommend the app to anyone looking for a convenient and reliable way to manage their finances, and I am grateful for its assistance during my time of need.
Don’t Use Unless you want Overdraft Fees
Update: The app developer asked for me to contact them to discuss the issue. They never replied to my email. It’s been a week. Brigit could have at least informed me that they are looking into the matter and give me a expected resolution date. Instead, they charged me another overdraft fee for the same issue as before. They get my pay dates wrong. I adjust the date in the app, and they still try to take out my money days in advance. Issue unresolved. I paid back the $50, cancelled my membership, and called my bank to prevent future charges. (I have read several reviews of people who cancelled their membership and was charged a month later.) So this company has cost me $87 in overdraft fees for a $50 loan that cost $10 a month. Rip off!
I’ve tried Money Lion, FloatMe, and Earnin. Earnin and Money Lion are by far the best. No hidden fees. They work off tips. When I saw a preventative problem, Earnin was quick to fix it. They haven’t tried to reach into my bank account to pull funds that aren’t there. FloatMe is pretty easy for a fast $20. I never had an issue with them that needed resolving. No issues at all with Money Lion.
Original review:
I downloaded this app. I linked it to my bank account. I got $50 to float me until my payday. They listed my payday as 10/28 when it’s actually 10/29. So I asked for an extension to 10/29, they agreed. 10/28 comes around and my bank charged me $29 overdraft fee because Brigit tried to withdraw the $50. Why did they attempt to take out money when they knew I wouldn’t have it until 10/29? The agent Lizzie says because they try to see if the money is in my account. What?! The app is linked to my bank account and tells me my balance. So they already knew it wasn’t there. We had an agreement to extend the pay back date to 10/29, so they money would be there. Instead, they try to see if money is there? That doesn’t make sense. On 10/29, they got paid. They refuse to refund me for the overdraft fee. They tell me to ask my bank. The bank says Brigit is wrong. This service cost me more money. It’s a con.
Has absolutely been a lifesaver!
I have been out of work due to health issues, surgeries, autoimmune issues etc for a while now. I really did not want to take a loan out to help with bills, but until we reduced our bills per month we definitely needed some help. We have canceled several unnecessary bills, accounts, subscriptions, cable etc. however it wasn’t all at once and we were drowning. The health issues were sudden and unexpected. We just were not prepared to lose our second income! Along with the surgeries the autoimmune issues cause extreme fatigue and brain fog, so I ended up getting behind or missing payments or just blanking on things! I hated it, and even though it has gotten better, we are still trying to get everything back on track. I read an article about Brigit during all of this and at first I was concerned there was going to be a catch or something. I went ahead and downloaded it, definitely for the budgeting aspect but also to see if the “loan option” was really as simple as it was portrayed. At first I could only borrow a little over $100. Which was great for no interest or anything. It was more of a paycheck advance. Which was fine with me since I did not want a huge loan in the first place, I just wanted to be able to keep my account out of the negative before payday. Going negative is always the worst thing to have happen, sometimes a $35 overdraft fee for a $5 charge. (All because a subscription that was supposed to be canceled still had 1 more charge we were not expecting, etc.) The small amounts we are able to borrow just until the next paycheck, just to get you by and keep your account in the green had been a lifesaver. As you repay on time, the amount you can borrow increases. However, you don’t have to borrow the increased amount, you can borrow whatever amount you need, that way you are not taking a huge chunk from your paycheck before you get it, which could put you into a worse situation. This app has definitely helped us through some very difficult issues. I greatly appreciate the opportunity for interest free payday advance just to keep our heads above water!
This app is BOGUS
I was a strong supporter of brigit at one point. I’ve been using them for MONTHS and then today get a notice that I have make at least $1500.00 every check in order to qualify for the $80 I was able to get every week that was successfully paid back each time I borrowed it. They say Chime isn’t supported but before it was considered non supportive I was using it faithfully. They determined Chime wasn’t supported but still had my account with Brigit active. Now it’s rent week. I’ve paid my last loan, attempted to borrow the $80 to be sure my bills and stuff were covered just to be told I need a deposit of $1500.00 a week in order to get $80. I bring him $620 a week. If I made 1500.00 a week I would not even need to resort to using this app..sick of false advertising and ripping people off. You just took my 9.99 monthly fee and then cut me from being eligible for a loan. I would NEVER recommend Brigit to anyone I know.
RESPONSE TO BRIGIT : I don’t care what’s reliable and what’s not. I’ve used y’all for months and you ALWAYS got paid back..you all changed the income requirement with NO heads up and put me in a bind when I had been depending on this app. The biggest issue is that you try and justify not supporting Chime however allowed me to open and use an account for like 8/9 months and took 9.99 a month from me but still had the audacity to just randomly cut me off as if I was doing something wrong. Nope never again will I use this app nor will I recommend the next person to use it. It’s very unprofessional to not advise your customers with upcoming changes to allow them to prepare. People who work paycheck to paycheck and are single mothers such as myself depend on the extra help that’s out there. So to change your requirement to something so unrealistic is completely and utterly absurd just because of the bank they use. Whatever happened to personal accountability? Atleast I am responsible enough to make sure you got your money back. If I made $1500 a week I would NEVER need an app like this. So save your “generic” not giving a flying fudge sickle for the next customer that writes a review!
Forget this App if You’re a Freelancer
All freelancers know the financial industry is stacked against them. As much as it claims to be different, Brigit is more of the same. It requires you to have regular monthly deposits of at least $1500 FROM THE SAME EMPLOYER. “Different employers don’t count,” which is something the app doesn’t bother to tell you until you’ve already given it access to your finances. Who cares if the deposits are from 1, 2, or even 4 clients? What matters is the money is coming in.
Recent circumstances have opened my eyes to the sharks circling the drain of our financial system. Someone could make a killing by creating sensible, low rate loans for freelancers and people with less-than-perfect credit. An imperfect credit history has more to do with predatory practices in a barely regulated market than with poor financial planning. Though there is plenty of both. However, there are millions of people rejected by the algorithms that today make these decisions who would qualify for loan amounts that are nothing to a multinational banking corporation, but the difference between a small setback and a decade of financial ruin for the individual. Were things like they were 20-30 years ago, you could walk into a bank—likely locally owned and incorporated around a trade or common interest—and speak to a real person who would look at your finances, listen to your specific case, and have the leeway to make a decision tailored to your needs. Rates above 15% would be unheard of.
It’s absurd that a person needs to already be wealthy enough to have perfect credit or face rates of nearly 30%. We are not machines, so why are machines making decisions that so deeply affect our livelihood? The decision should ultimately be made by people. A rising tide lifts all boats, and the point of a loan is to ensure the little ones don’t capsize in rough seas. But algorithms are programmed to make profit. And so instead our late-stage capitalist American culture sees loans as a way to consolidate more wealth, and the people who need them most as “risks” that either don’t deserve help or require “management.” That’s called usury and Dante literally created a specific circle of hell for it.
It seems Brigit might have a spot there with its name on it.
ONE STAR APP WITH ONE STAR SERVICE
My experience with Bridget has been the worst. I urge anyone considering them to say no and walk away. Use Earnin instead, they have been far better in every way for me. Brigit confirmed my pay date as the last day of the month, every month. Cool. Brigit showed in my app April 1 upcoming. Cool. Brigit then did not adhere to that date, they randomly decided March 24 would be ok to take repayment money from my account and in doing so overdraw my account leading to bank fees. Not cool.
Upon contacting Brigit assuming it was a general computer glitch -I get it, things happen- and they were competent enough to make that right I was told a canned response that amounted to shifting blame to me and my bank. No. My bank isn’t at fault and neither was I. I confirmed with customer service my pay date, I confirmed in my app they listed April 1 as their date. I sent screen shots of that along with the bank debit and fee they caused. I didn’t change any info, my bank had nothing to do with it. After sending my complaint up the chain I was told that Brigit sends out emails and app reminders of the withdrawal dates and I should have known ahead of time when it comes out.
Now, I ask you fellow consumers do you think after confirming with customer service your pay date and confirming with screen shots of April 1 as correct that you are at fault in any way because you did not read enough emails each day and open the Brigit app each day enough to spot where they went ahead without your consent on a different date you never agreed upon to take your money? Do you think you should have to do Brigit’s job of making sure they are correct in what they do? Because that sounds like a lot of hot garbage to me yet that’s what their upper management told me as reason it was my fault -I didn’t self-check them each and every day to make sure they did their job properly and adhere to the date they listed and the date their customer service previously confirmed.
Yet here I am sixteen emails and two overdraft fees later having them completely ignore their incompetence and refuse to make their mistake right. I shouldn’t have to consider a lawyer just to get them to make their own mistake correct for a customer. So please do not use Brigit. Go to Earnin and have a good experience with their services. Because Brigit is a one star app with one star customer service. Do not use.
Rip off & Worst Lend app
Brigit is hands down the worst lending app on the market. First the requirement to borrow a measly $50 is ridiculous. When I signed up the requirement was an income of $1500 a month from the same employer. I borrowed $50 once, repayed it and now I need to borrow another $50 again and the requirement has increased to an income of $2250 a month and I just signed up a week ago and nothing has changed. If I made $2250 a month I wouldn’t have the need to borrow $50 from this crap app. Not to mention a $9.99 a month subscription fee to borrow $50 is highway robbery especially when you already pay $4-$5 to send the loan to my bank. Which I’m not going to pay and will dispute if charged because I was only able to borrow $50 one time and I payed 10% fee for it already. I’m not going to pay another 20%. The requirements for a very very small payday loan are close to equalling out to the income of a well off middle class person that would never have the use for such an app or payday loan. That’s probably why you have to charge $9.99 monthly subscription just so you can make some kind of return because no one uses the app because they’re unable to. No wonder DeFi is blasting off and will burry & destroy outdated traditional finance/fiat companies like Brigit. If the puppet Elon Muskrat didn’t tank the market I would have just borrowed the $50 against my investment assets as collateral but unfortunately I had to settle for this garbage. I’m a developer and this experience has actually inspired me to develop a DeFi payday loan application that is fair, community governed and doesn’t require someone to have to make a huge sum of money just to borrow $50 freakin dollars just so I can burry brigit into the ground! Or maybe I’ll just add the feature into my pay app dev project that’s being developed right now. Peace out. Horrible app! negative 50 stars for brigit
P.S. try taking a gander at Dave or Earnin so you can see what fair and sensible requirements look like. Not to mention they allow you to borrow substantially more money with less of a monthly income and with no monthly subscription. It’s like the crap apps like FloatMe, Albert and Brigit all charge you monthly subscriptions with crazy requirements only let you borrow $20-$30. Then the ones that are free with tipping options like Dave and earnin let you borrow $100-$200. No wonder those do way better and profit more. Ripping people off and nickle & diming them every chance you get will prove unprofitable in the long run and be your ultimate downfall.
Horrible customer “service” and subpar tech
After the third incident of connection issues on their side with banks (they always claim its Plaid when Plaid works for everything else for me) in a month causing my financial tools to go all over the place and showed my membership no longer active I contacted customer service. The agent Alyssa unlinked my account without consulting me, and when I confronted her about doing so she assured me it would not mess with anything. Low and behold, limit lowered once again. I was obviously upset and wanted it fixed like it was the previous two times.
Enter Hudson, king jerk of the Brigit team. This was his response:
Hudson (Brigit)
Feb 22, 14:42 EST
Ashley,
It appears that you have been writing into our CX department for the past month trying to get your limit increased and was told several times that you cannot. Rest assured that if we could have helped you back in January, we would have. In fact, we did when Mike was able to make a last attempt effort to keep your amount as $150. As you can see, despite all of the overrides that we are allowed to set for your account, your amount remains less than $150. We are literally at a stopping point here. We cannot provide any other overrides to change your amount.
I also want to acknowledge that Alyssa has never lied to you, nor has anyone at Brigit. Every agent that you spoke with, including me a few weeks ago, has provided you with accurate and effective communication. We have provided many overrides for your account and have tried constantly to have your account restored, despite connection issues with BBVA. Your account is, as we speak, approved for $100. If you wish to use our service, you could have requested an $100 advance hours ago. I'm sorry if you do not feel your advance amount of $100 is sufficient and would rather $50 more, but your account is approved for our service regardless. I'm afraid if Brigit is not providing the service quality or amounts that is satisfactory to you, you are more than welcome to try another service.
Have a great rest of your day and I wish you a lovely weekend ahead!”
After I showed him screenshots showing “your $150 has been repaid!” texts literally from Thursday 2/20, Alyssa’s email showing she indeed said it would not mess with my account, had never messaged me back. Classy.
Bottom line: the financial tools are great when they work. But I’d someone sneezes in another state, there’s connection issues, app issues, and you’ll have to go through agent after agent because they basically resolve your case as soon as they reply. There’s no way to manually correct things like Earnin where you can send in screenshots and they override it, and no live chat like Earnin. I had both for budgeting/accounting just in case one was inaccurate, but I will go exclusively back to Earnin where there’s hardly ever any issues, and the customer service team won’t be snide and basically say you’re a liar, even when you have screenshots of conversations and your limits being repaid. If I could leave negative stars, I would.
Thanks for your Advice Hudson, I’ll be using Earning exclusively after next week. Adios.
CAUSED OVERDRAFT! Took money before SCHEDULED payday!
UPDATED REVIEW July
Look, I think Brigit has a A huge flaw with how they move the payday when payday lands on a holiday or Sunday. Sometimes if it lands on Sunday, I get paid sat, but I have NEVER, IN ANY JOB, EVER, had a Sunday payday become a Friday payday. Because of this Brigit literally caused me more overdraft fees than they saved me from. Their reply to my complaint and review was to tell me that I have the opportunity to move the date as long as I do it within a few days of the scheduled withdrawal. This reply is flawed for so many reasons. Mainly I usually don’t need the service until I am within a few days of payday, and because I’m so close to it, Brigit blocks me from moving the pay back day. “Within a few days” REALLY?!?!
The correct reply would have been “we have heard your concerns and will be taking them into consideration”
But seriously? I should not have to MOVE THE DATE! I PICKED MY DATE...YOU MOVED THE DATE YOU. You. YOU...YOU...YOU MOVE IT BACK! Or pay me the fees you caused. If I tell you what date I get paid. I want YOU to use that payday. I have used a dozen payday lender services and NEVER ONCE did any other company decide my payday based on what? Some companies pay on Friday when a payday lands on Sunday? Well NO COMPANY IVE EVER WORKED FOR!
If anyone out there has paydays that land on dates rather than days of the week and Brigit pulled their money days ahead of the pay day you input because of a holiday or weekend PLEASE add your voice in opposition! One Ill timed $200 withdrawal can cause hundreds in bank fees!
So despite my concerns and frustrations with Brigit, they are fast & easy to use so I continued using their service, happy with it in many other ways. In fact I’d be their biggest cheerleader if they didn’t have that MAJOR FLAW! (Seriously, you tell me it’s my responsibility to move my date back to my payday because YOU irresponsibly changed it? How about asking people when they sign up... if your payday lands on Sunday will the funds be deposited Friday? Yes? May we remove the funds early? Or No, the funds won’t be there Friday, thank you for asking)
Anyway... back to my update. I kept using them because other aspects of the service are good. I had been able to get about $200 but I didn’t need to use the service for 7 months. So I go to use it and my limit is back to $100.
What I have to rebuild trust again? Even after all my payments cleared despite you taking money days early?
So to be able to borrow 200$ I need to need to borrow all the time? What an annoyance!
ORIGINAL REVIEW 2019
First month I use your service. I tell you I get paid on the 5th and 20th. Your app force changes the day to the 3rd because 5th is a Sunday. But I get direct deposit on the 5th regardless! You changed the date to the 3rd, you take the money and CAUSE AN OVERDRAFT FEE! What do you not understand about the 5th?!?!?
Now I’m 35$ down. And I paid you ten dollars to GIVE ME A BANK FEE! Funny thing is if I didn’t use your service I would have not over drafted at all.
You should call my bank and tell them you pulled a payday loan before the scheduled payday and demand they put back my $35.00
I told you the 5th and the 20th! I’ve had jobs where a Sunday payday would result in an early Saturday payday... but I’ve never had a Sunday become a Friday!
Why don’t you leave the payday where I and my bank history say is my payday or simply ask at set up if your company pays early when payday lands on a holiday, or a weekend.
What’s worse is you force change the date and I can’t put it back to the date I said it is. I checked!
You did it for Jan 20th too. My next payday is a holiday, MLK jr day, so you decide a Monday holiday means I’ll get paid Friday the 17th. I WILL NOT GET PAID ON THE 17TH! I ILL BE PAID WHEN I SAID I GET PAID ON THE 20TH!
This is a ridiculous and obvious oversight.
I want my $35.00 back.
Brigit was my 18-minute Christmas miracle ♥️
I would like to share my recent experience with the amazing staff here at Brigit.
I want to give them an honest 6/5 stars for providing a service that doesn’t even compare to the other similar apps out there.
I have been using Brigit for about four months now. I missed a few days of work and my paycheck was a little shorter than usual. It is just me and my dogs- I don’t have a wealthy parent or an older established sibling to ask for financial help. I was about two seconds away from sending messages out of desperation to my friends on Facebook asking for someone to borrow me money (not the proudest moment for an adult in their mid 20’s) when I discovered Brigit. Being able to request a $90 advance because I had a good Direct Deposit history... what a freaking miracle. This app really lifted a huge weight off my shoulders- definitely more than any other service I pay $10/ a month for! Brigit really is my only friend who saves my a*** when my paycheck is a little short.
For the past year I have had the same job with the same direct deposit every other Friday. I recently switched jobs to another company- no lapse in work (not a single day) with same hours and same pay. A financial tornado somehow ensued. I received my final paycheck in the form of a written check, and the pay period at my new job was on a much different schedule.
Long story short, after I awoke to my $90 Repayment going back to Brigit on Christmas morning (at about 3:00AM) I no longer met the Income requirement needed to request another Advance- because my Direct Deposit amount was much lower than normal (although my income was the same).
As my direct deposit/Repayment happened on Christmas, I naturally needed this paycheck to be as large as possible, having to cover Christmas expenses with my previous paycheck.
I could not afford to lose another $90 from my paycheck due to not meeting a technical banking requirement.
Like, what the f*ck will I do now? Should I not give my sister her Christmas present and return it? :( $90 is about ⅛ of my paycheck… what bill am I going to have to pay late? It can’t be utilities, my rent is next paycheck, so I guess it has to be the car paym… Having to play this Late Payment Sudoku puzzle makes me really, really hopeless
I sent Brigit a message to their Facebook page in a fit of despair. I got the automatic reply, which confirmed my feelings of helplessness. I was essentially screaming to the thin air when I sent them an (embarrassingly) upset and dramatic message in response, and I tried to fall back asleep after my nice little early-morning episode.
7 minutes later- that is no exaggeration- I got an actual message from someone that my Request had been prioritized to the first of their Queue and that someone would be in the office shortly.
(I’m in Montana, they’re in NYC.)
9 minutes after that, I received a message that they manually verified my income and re-approved me to request another Advance. They re-activated my “Safety Net” so they were able to send me an Express Advance that I received 2 minutes after that.
18 minutes.
It took these people 18 minutes to take me from feeling like I was crushed by the weight of financial stress and fell back down to rock bottom, to lifting that weight off my chest and not just telling me but showing me that everything is going to be okay.
18 minutes!?!? Other companies make you wait 3-5 business days to get a response. It is really surreal to message a financial company with a Bad and Bougie office in NYC and their verified checkmark, and to have them respond to you- and personally help you- within a matter of minutes.
*** This is a real excerpt from my conversation with the Customer Service Manager, Matt.
“We made Brigit to help hard-working people like you afford like and stay well. Some of us on staff here have had Christmases growing up and all our folks could give us were an orange or a baseball. We know how easy it is to fall behind and it can feel like the system is stacked against us, we’ve made Brigit to do what we can to help.”
I really really LOVE the people who work at Brigit. ♥️

Bridget app
The marketing said interest free up to $250. Optional membership 9.99 per mo unless canceled. They deposited $125 for less than 9 days and changed a fee of 9.99 astronomical cost for the amount and time. I cancelled the membership prior to expiring received notification no fees would be charged, yet they. Took the fee and declared no refund. This is a predator preying on those already in financial hardship. Class action lawsuit should be pursued as well as government oversight. I would like these outrageous fees returned.
Membership
I downloaded brigit for a cash advance in desperate need of money for my children August 29th they took money from me and I don't even have a membership never received money from them the amount they took was $40 now I dont have any money i tried to cancel my account and now they wont news let me im furious they night take more money out my account again

Deleting my account
Hi Devona Mims here. I paid back my loan on the 0807/2023. I tried to delete my subscription and account after payment was made and it wouldn’t let me saying saying I had to log in to hellobrigit.com and follow the steps. I did and it still wouldn’t allow me to deactivate my account. I’ve been charged two separate times for the subscription today and also on the 08/042023. This company is fraudulent! I emailed them on today 08/08/2023 and also on 08/07/2023. The first request from me was put in on 08/07/2023, the request code is 1856705. The second request from me was made today 1856705. There is no live person to speak with and they continue to charge my bank account for the subscription seems like every 4 days. I want this account deleted! Brigit is a scam!
Desired outcome: Account to be deleted

Brigit- they steal your money straight up scammers. robbing desperate people do not use this app
This “company” STEALS your money. They trick you into a subscription that you never signed up for and charge you every month even after you cancel the subscription. They do not provide a way for you to switch the subscription to the free version in app and they do not provide a way for you to delete your account. IT IS A SHAME THAT THEY ARE JUST ALLOWED TO ROB PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND GET AWAY WITH IT. DO NOT USE THIS APP
Desired outcome: I WOULD LIKE A RESPONSE I WOULD LIKE A REFUND AND I WOULD DAMN SURE LOVE AN APOLOGY
Surprise membership
This app came across as the better option in its category. It came in clutch when I had to move and pay double rent and needed some extra cash (a real loan would have been too much).
It was not disclosed clearly or I think at all that there is a monthly membership, I still cannot find where it tells me when I will get billed and how much (doesn’t help me budget that expense, which I thought this app helps budget expenses, maybe not). The problem however is that it charged the membership fee the day before I got paid and that account did not have another payment budgeted for it so it made that account go negavtive and triggered one of them bank charges (I would have budgeted for that had I known).
How is it that this app takes pride in saving people from bank charges yet cause them at the same time (it did the opposite of what it said it would) isn't that hypocritical? Umm my account is linked to them and they know when the next paycheck is (they sure make it known) how could they have done that when they know that if they held off one day, then it’s all good. I mean that’s just not client based services that’s profit based and that’s why I don’t like it and I do not recommend. I’m all about that client care, and just felt like I needed to write a review because maybe that it’ll help them learn some of it.
They work.. but got that attitude of a typical payday lender

Worst paycheck advance app by far
I’ve tried out several different apps that provide users with advances on a portion of their paycheck (Earnin, Dave, Branch) and this one is easily the worst of the bunch.
Some things you should know before downloading this app:
1. Unlike the other apps, which make money through tips or instant transfer fees, Brigit is a subscription service where you have to pay every month to receive their advances. Which means, even if you don’t actually use the service you’ll still pay to have it activated.
2. The requirements to qualify for advances are extremely steep and the advance itself is minimal at best. You have to have consistent payments that all exceed $1500 a month, and even when you reach that threshold every single paycheck must be greater then $400.
3. Reaching the requirements only nets you an $80 advance as opposed to $100 from earnin, which is far easier to use.
4. Even if you cancel the subscription before the next charge date they still charge you for the month anyway, I can’t think of a single other modern subscription service that does this.
Overall the app is a huge hassle and not worth the pennies they give you. If you want to avoid overdrafts, just set up an account with a bank that doesn’t do overdrafts like Simple. If you need cash advances just use Earnin or Dave. If you want an app that tracks your spending use Truebill. This app doesn’t offer anything that other apps don’t already do better.

Used to be great. It’s been awful recently
A couple years ago when I first started using Brigit is was absolutely great. Cash advance was easy, always gave you a heads up if overdraft was a possibility and you can set it to get an automatic advance to make sure that doesn’t happen. There were a bunch of great features. Recently downloaded it again and its been 3 months now and I STILL “don’t qualify” for an advance although I have literally met and even EXCEEDED every single requirement. Any time I contact support, nobody gives me a straight answer. I explain the situation and all they say in return is “you need to meet the requirements to advance.” Even though in every email I state that “I meet all requirements for 3 months now, can somebody please look into this?” And every single time I get the same message or somebody saying to give it another week. I’ve been extremely patient and I still have no answers at all as to why this is. The customer support is god awful and lazy. Don’t even bother to read the entire email to know what the issue is and they give you the same auto generated type response and once you get upset enough to email them about them not listening, they simply just say give it another week. At this point you’re better of using “Dave” or “Earnin.” I chose to use this because it was my favorite and now it’s just been an awful experience and I find myself annoyed every time I log in. Mostly because nobody there even bothers to do a single thing to see why this is happening at all.

Forced Protection
At first, I loved Brigit. It helped me through a lot of financial hardships when I needed it. I utilized the service quite a few times before I decided yesterday to deactivate it. The app tries to prevent you from deactivating your safety net with many prompts but when I was finally able to, it would say it was off and then reset itself to being on. I did NOT want this service any longer but I could not turn it off. Today, I was given money that I did NOT want. I am trying to avoid borrowing and I am also closing my bank account very shortly. I am very unhappy with this service. I did not want any money and made an attempt to assure they would not send me anymore MULTIPLE times. If you’re looking for financial help, do not use this app. There are better apps out there who will not forcefully give you money. They also do not have a phone number and by the time my e-mail about the situation is resolved, the unwanted money will be in my account. I utilized the service and adored Brigit for MONTHS. They will NOT let you stop using the service no matter what you do. Not sure if it’s an app flaw or a company trying to take advantage of people, but it needs some serious looking into. I will be discontinuing this service as soon as possible. Brigit, take note of what your customers want and need. Don’t force them into money they didn’t ask for. I cannot stress enough how badly this has dampened my opinion of Brigit. It’s all fun and games until you try to stop using them.

Seriously horrible customer service and faulty system
Update. Someone finally fixed it when they actually listened and looked into it and realized the app was malfunctioning. Well it’s happening again. They are taking money from my account and I can’t get help for it to stop. I’ve had to reach out to my bank. The live chat doesn’t exist. I received 1 email 9 days ago and it said they were closing my request for help. Never even bothered to help me or look into it.
So at some point they will start stealing your money and it will be impossible to get help. So you will have to call your bank and report fraud for stolen money.
Worst customer service ever! The system kept screwing up my account. I have had my bank account for years and do not carry cash. I use it virtually every day. They kept saying I didn’t use it enough. The system also couldn’t find my employment direct deposits that come every other week like clock work. Someone finally fixed saying there was something wrong with their system. Fixed it all but one part. One employee named Lizzie replied to an email and ignored the rest of my replies asking for help. I went back to the main system for help. She then replied again after a couple weeks and deleted my bank info and said she could see the system was making a mistake and to start over. Put right back at square one with her still unwilling to help. She knew what was going to happen. Of that I have no doubt. Seriously be careful with this company. If want to be treated like a person and use a good company, this is not the one.

HORRIBLE
When I first started Brigit was amazing and I had no issues, ZERO. Then after the Covid Pandemic I started having issues with Brigit. Every month I would have issue trying to borrow, if I needed to , even though my income had NEVER changed. I still made WAY over the $1250 required and I’ve had the same bank. At first the amount went down, I never said a word and now for the past 3-4 months every time I pay back and then try to borrow again, I have an issue and it states I’m not eligible. I then have to contact them and they fix it after me arguing with several people. This last time it was supposed to have been fixed. Needless to say it is not and has not been fixed and now I can’t use them, AGAIN! My account has had over five grand put into it this last month and the month before that over eight grand. I own my own business and use several payment platforms and have payments on different days after the job is completed and because of this supposedly their system isn’t recognizing my payments. That’s bull crap when I have used them for over a year with the same payment info and never had any issues until the last few months. I say do your self a favor and use Cleo, Dave, Branch or MoneyLion...platforms that go by your actual deposits and bank statements. Brigit is a joke. They won’t even fix this for me being a long time client even seeing that I have the funds in my accounts, all 3 of them, that total way more then $1250. Obviously long term clients do not matter to them

Too long of a wait
I would love to give this app 5 stars as it has saved me many of times. I am transitioning from bi weekly pay checks to weekly paychecks and it’s difficult. However, it takes way too long to receive funds especially when you’re in a bind and I am still waiting for a response to an email I sent last week about why I keep getting kicked out of the account.
Update...
The app is always crashing! It’s been down all weekend and there doesn’t seem to be a resolve! They won’t even send an update on when the app will be fixed, just keep sayin check back in 15 min. (I’m writing this in hopes they will respond here because I can’t get a response any other way) I logged out of my Acct by accident and I can’t even log back in. I’m starting to hate it here! You can’t call anyone only email and it’s so annoying. They still take forever to send and receive money and now I can’t even log in and it’s days before Christmas! Ughh! I wish I never bothered with the app in the first place.
I keep updating this review bc well... things keep happening. In a nut shell the concept behind the app is great but the app it’s self is inconsistent. You never know if it’s going to work. One day I’ll receive funds in the morning other times I don’t get funds til 5pm. Sometimes funds are considered repayed in 24 hrs, sometime not til late Sunday evening. It’s literally a waiting game to see how’s its going to work. I only use this app still bc I don’t want my info tied to 30 diff like apps. I’m hoping to no longer need the service soon cause it’s frustrating to deal with!

SCAM! They robbed me! DON’T USE!
There are a couple issues. First off, I requested an advance from Brigit on the 20th of July and I received an email saying that my advance was sent on the 24th. I was supposed to receive my advance on the 27th. On the 3rd of August I emailed Brigit and asked where my advance was. They responded and said that it was on its way to my account. I emailed them on the 5th...still no advance. Conversed with them on the 10th of August, still no advance and they told me that they would investigate further. August 19th? They withdrew $50 from my account and said that the advance that I was never sent was paid back. They pretty much robbed me. I was laid off in March because of Covid and diagnosed with breast cancer in July so I can’t get a job until after my bilateral mastectomy in October, so I cannot afford to just throw $50 in the trash. I emailed brigit about their error on the 19th and they responded QUICK. They told me they refunded my $50 and the $9.99 for my membership, but here we are, August 28th and I have still not received my money back. I need this money. It’s a matter of eating or not eating and Brigit COULD CARE LESS. Doug and Hudson both messaged me and assured me that they refunded my money, but beyond that, they pretty much told me that I have to take it up with my bank. This has nothing to do with my bank. Why would they charge me for an advance that I was never given a month after I requested it. Why would it take over a week to receive a refund? I am 39 years old and this is literally the WORST transaction that I have ever been party to.

Terrible App
I downloaded it “yes” to take out a small pay day loan. You might want to be on the free plan even so as pick the free plan but some how the app makes you pay for the $9.99 per month. So I did things like pause it thinking pausing it so much it would stop payments or at least give me a way to delete my account. Nope! It unpauses after a month and won’t put you back on the free plan you chose but the $9.99 per month. To mr that’s a whole lot of money and emails that were never responded to for almost a year. Yes I was able to borrow $100 only twice 1st time to try it out and next time was because I needed it. On the app there is no way to cancel your own account so as the same that there’s no option at all when they say you can cancel your account manually if you go online to do so. Brigit had to finally look in to my problem after several emails just in this past week they have canceled my account and I could care less about giving a free $9.99 for an app service that is not really at all used. Basically after all those months you’d expect to be reimbursed but don’t expect that although you have paused the app several times and reached out to them with the same concerns of how to cancel your account and telling them there is no physical option to do so. I have used successful apps before and I’ll recommend the Dave app which only charges really .99 per month or the Earnin app in which you don’t owe them only to tip what you think may be fair for the loan transaction and the more you tip the next time you borrow the amount will increase to a certain limit per between your pay day’s!

Frustrated!
I used the app successfully for 3 weeks. This week when they took their repayment of $80 out of my account. They took it 3 different times. So my bank account is short an extra $160 and I can’t talk to anyone about it. I’ve sent two emails without any response. I need the money to pay bills. A slow response on a serious issue is a problem. I will be canceling my monthly subscription as soon as this is handled.
Update... A day later and I have yet to be contacted by anyone and my bank account has yet to be refunded.
Update my latest email to the company...
I’m trying to be patient but I’m at my wits end with this entire situation. I was told my money would be refunded by Monday afternoon and still nothing. Not another response from anyone BUT I have received emails from Brigit about my Friday repayment and my monthly $9.99 charge. My bank account better not be touched again until this situation is handled. It takes 30 minutes for you guys to give me a cash advance but for a credit to my account where I have have been overcharged multiple times I can’t get that back in a timely manner. I’ve had to borrow money this week so my account doesn’t go into the negative. Not only has my money not been refunded I’ve had only one email response since Friday about the situation. My bank account and money may not be important to you but it’s important to me. Tomorrow is a holiday if things aren’t taken care of today they won’t be tomorrow either. Regardless I want my membership canceled and my bank account removed from the app. I’m owed more than just a refund at this point. This is ridiculous.

I wouldn’t recommend this service
While I do think $9.99/mo might be a bit steep, this is not my issue. If you need fast cash, it’s nice to have that peace of mind.
1. Be wary of financial services like this one that use ACH withdrawals as their only option of collecting funds. This company will attempt to withdraw your membership fee or pay back your funds even though the app can see that you do not have a balance to cover it. This means you will get stuck with an NSF fee by your bank, further hindering you from paying.
I recently emptied my primary bank account as I’m planning on closing it. Brigit charged the membership fee and now I’m in the negative. While I should have turned off my membership beforehand, it’s disappointing that company that models itself as HELPFUL would even have practices that would result in this.
2. Beware of companies that make it hard for you to cancel. This one requires you to manually go online (no link from the app- but you can do ANYTHING else in the app), log in, find in small print where to manage your membership, and then has (I kid you not) FIVE screens to click through and each time the cancel option is faded and small. Each screen says something to the effect of “please reconsider” and one even offers you a free month (yet they overdrafted my account already... why wouldn’t they just pause my membership when it recognizes my balance is too low?).
All in all, companies like this are predatory. Perhaps not as overtly as, say, a payday loan company but they are only interested in profit to the point that they will let you dig a deeper hole. Try another service!

Can I give ZERO STARS?
Edit—-it has now been a total of 4 days and I still have not received my funds. I email and get told oh yeah we promise it will be there by midnight today! That has been the same email two days in a row now. “Growing pains” I was told it is. Also I have a very big well known bank and my debit card still hasn’t been approved it’s like I’m at a standstill. The date my money was supposed to be there has now been 3 days ago this is ridiculous. I think all these short positive reviews are people being paid to say so or people involved with the “company”.
First off customer service is non existent. It really bothers me when you can’t even be given a phone number to talk to someone, you’re only given an email and guess what your response turnaround rate is? 2-3 business days!
Secondly I applied, and I selected to get $100. Everything was approved and this was at 2 a.m. Monday morning. The debit card said it still needs to be verified so shocker I can’t get the money instantly like I needed it so I was told from the FAQ section I’d receive my money in my account TODAY, it is now well after 5pm it’s been about 15 hours and still nothing in my account. I can’t call to get things rolling with my debit card so who knows if I’ll get the money or when I will get it. I didn’t need it tomorrow I needed it today and would’ve taken another outlet if I knew I would be in for this wait. I’ve used Dave, it’s great you pay a little extra boom money is there right now, Money Lion took a little long too but I was atleast able to speak with someone. That’s the biggest issue, no customer service. I wouldn’t recommend using this app.

Horrible Customer Service No Phone Number
update, STILL horrible customer service, have reached out to me after review and I have reached out a dozen times or more since for help all reps that email back are clueless and illogical and obviously do not look into anything!
***Original, Used once, was approved for $200, had fraudulent charge on my bank acct with bb&t. Bb&t changed my checking acct number. Horrible process of forcing you to pay with paypal echeck to pay brigit back making process literally take weeks. Then the only support you can get for app is via email and responses more often that not made no logical sense, sometimes were automated responses and not even a person typing them, and making you repeat info many, many times. Then they reset my login info to try and fix, made no sense but ok to then have it show a blank screen on the screen where you choose what bank acct to link to. So they then without asking write back and say we completely deleted your account to start over cause we dont know what else to do, all with many screen shots of app and computer site doing same exact thing. They blamed on Plaid 3rd party they use to connect accts. Then finally after many days get new bank acct number from SAME bank linked up to then have app show a blank screen to then have it say only approved for $50! Email me back saying nothing they can do is based on info in bank acct!OMG its all same info, same bank, same income, same employer same history just new acct # . I email back and ask them to assess the entire chain of email communications and my original acct that i had just opened this same month. No email back since then. Great concept but not worth the headache without better support.

Shady opt out process
I’ll start by saying I enjoyed having the app when I needed it, including the 9.99/month premium version.. however now that I’m in a better financial situation and didn’t need the service I found it way more difficult to opt out of the premium version than it was to opt in. You can’t opt out or switch to the free version in the app, you’re directed to log into the web version using a browser (it doesn’t even provide the link). If you’ve had to change phone numbers since first getting the app like myself you’ll then find once you’re logged in, the only way to get a verification code to continue is thru a text (offers email in the app but not the web browser) so I had to go into settings to update my phone number as to receive the code to continue. Then from there you have to go through settings where it offers the switch to a free version.. I select ‘switch to free’ where it then prompts an option to say “never mind I want to keep premium” in a big green button and the link to ‘continue with switch to free version” just below it in way smaller greyed out print. I click ‘continue with free version’ where it then prompted me again with an alternate option, “pause premium for 31 days” being a big green button and the free option in small grey print. Then finally one last page where you can finally select the free version to opt out. This feels very deceitful. They’re user friendly when you want to sign up but difficult to unsubscribe when the time comes that you don’t need them anymore. This is a problem for me as I’m sure there are a number of people who think they’ve opted out and are still being charged the 9.99 fee unknowingly while not using the service. Please Fix this Brigit.

Reviews might be fake
When I first came across this app, I thought wow that sounds awesome . I joined, not bc I needed money at the time but just in case, one day I did. I have been a member for a little over 3 months. The amount you can be lent is based of a scoring system. The higher the better. I started at 70 out of a 100. Not great, but enough to qualify for an advance. 50$ was my amount and I was okay with that, besides I didn’t need it so I’ll just work on it and build up a good payment history with them. Over the 12 weeks I have taken the advance and pay it back , usually after a week bc it takes 5 biz days after you pay to be permitted to take again . 3 months, no late payments- no overdrafting and my score never budges from 70. I do have more than one checking and I transfer money around so I can accept that my account is irregular. This week, my balance has been lower so I haven’t used it . Today I see my bank acct is not linked so re enter it bc I am -6$. Now, it won’t recognize my last pay check, which is the same employer it’s been throughout my membership. But it for the first time , reduces my score to a 63 saying I do not qualify for an advance . The only time I needed help, they shot me down. The only time I was actually going to over draft and I didn’t have enough money to borrow money. And the only reason I’m writing this is bc if you do get ahold of customer service , they give scripted answers and don’t even acknowledge what your asking . Then they stop responding all together. I work in customer service so I’m very patient when it comes to this sort of stuff but this is not the first time I’ve been treated poorly . Not to mention , I’m paying 9.99 a month for nothing apparently. Pass on this app

This app and company is trash
I have been using this app since November, and never had an issue. I was told that my account had been disabled recently, due to what this email from the company states:
“ Hello!
Thanks so much for reaching out. We apologize that your account was not approved at this time. In order to be approved for Safety Net, your income needs to meet several requirements:
-Minimum income of $1,500 per month (combined paychecks)
-Minimum per paycheck amount of $400
-No variation of pay greater than 30% month over month
-Regular account activity (using your account on a daily basis)
-Income must be from the same employer or source
-3 consecutive paychecks from the same employer or source
Unfortunately, we are unable to override the requirements at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please know this was not an easy decision and we understand some members are temporarily being unapproved as a result. Our goal is to make sure Brigit is here to serve its members today and long into the future. And that requires us to take additional temporary steps in order to remain viable during these uncertain times. With that said, we will keep monitoring your account and once we are able to confirm you meet the requirements above, we will approve you for Safety Net.”
So here’s what is really going on.
I have been using this app for months, at least since November, and I meet all of the requirements. I make well over $1500/month, my paychecks are very much over $400, I have had no change in payment, employment, and I have had the same bank account for years.
It’s pretty disgusting to use a global pandemic as a reason to disable regular customers, and unapproving them for no valid reason. I will be deleting the app.
