Free Credit Report review: How to cancel the charges! 99

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

I had a hard time even finding a number to call about this one and they will never write you back. I just called my bank's customer service provider and explained I wanted to stop charges. She three way called the number on my bank statement for the charge and told them she was calling from the bank. They agreed to cancel the "membership" and said I would incur more fees.

Worth a try...

Why are you charging me $12.95 a month. I never signed up for anything but have been charged 3 times.

This company is TERRIBLE! Biggest scam in the world. I have tried to cancel this 3 times now and they keep charging me every month. I am so sick of them. I will tell anyone who will listen what a fraud "Triple Advantage" (or whoever the hell they are) is!

I'm pissed I have been looking at my account and seeing that yall have been taking out $12.95 for 4 months and that is only how far back i can see. Who knows how much it has really been. Right now we are up to 51.80 that has been taken, so i would suggest something be done about NOW!

I can only imagine how much money this company makes off of the tens of thousands of people who are getting charged this 12 bucks without knowing. They have it down to a science. Call the number on your statement and be patient. It's the principal...

The CIC thing is happening to me also-but my bank suggests that I close my account. Because - if I put a stop payment, the account rep said they will just come back next month and change the amount by a penny and the stop payment will not pick it up. I have no problem closing my account, but its a "Convenience Account"-like a check card but its also a Visa. I am now concerned about my credit because I have heard that you should not cancel credit cards.

There doesn't seem to be a way around this. However, I have to say when I saw how many people have been affected by this scam I didn't feel so bad-I mean at least I am not the only one-which in some way is comforting, to a certain extent.

I had the luxury of calling these people and after waiting 5 minutes to connect, I was offered a $25 prepaid gift card to try to keep my account active. I was assured that I would receive it within 7-10 business days and if I still wanted to cancel, I could at that time.

I advise whomever calls and gets this offer to pass on it. I have a feeling they could try to pro-rate the account and change you $6 for the time waiting for the gift card.

Good luck to all whom try this.

I just called the # [protected] and after being disconnected 7 times I finally got through to an operator who tried reselling me on what a great service they have. I said "No, I just want to close my account" 10 + times in the 5 min conversation. But at the end was assured I would not insure any further "membership" charges... What a hack company this is... Not even sure how they started taking money out of my account... I don't recall ever entering my bank information.

I just canceled my active membership, it seemed pretty painless but the operator seemed to try to give me the run around first about all of their services great features or something. I just had to interrupt them and say "Hey, I just want my service canceled so that I will not incur anymore (PURCHASE CIC*Triple Advanta 06/16 $12.95 ) Charges. That seemed to work, I'll keep monitoring it though just to see if that worked.

I am just as pissed off as everyone else. I do not know how they got my account information, but before I knew it, there was 12.95 taken out of my account and I noticed that as of 7/1 another 12.95 was taken out. I was wondering if they were able to get my account information by signing up for what is supposed a FREE CREDIT REPORT! Think about it, when you get your free credit report, they try to get you to sign up for credit monitoring. Well, anyways, I am going to keep calling the number on my statement until I get so sick of them taking money out of my account, then I will have my bank call.

I just got off the phone with them, [protected], and the woman said she would cancel my account and refund me the $26 that they charged me for two months. You have to call and cancel it after 30 days of getting your free report or they can charge you. I'm assuming that they've been getting a lot of complaints because she was quick to fix the problem for me. Just be persistent.

I just spent 20minutes on the phone with an operator (after being on hold for 5) and despite numerous requests to just cancel my account, she kept telling me what a great company and opportunity this is, and right before she finally agreed to cancel, she offered me a "great deal of 25% off for the next three months, so instead of $12.95/month, it'll be $9.71/month..."

Long story short, I'm glad I have a lot of patience for people who want to argue about taking MY money...

I have no idea where this charge to my checking acct. came from. I have never been in contact with this company, nor do I know what service they offer. This is not right. I am calling the only number I have for them, but get little in terms of answers.

I DID NIT SIGN UP FOR WHATEVER THIS IS FOR AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW DID THEY RECEIVE MY CC NUMBER. THIS IS A SCAM AND THINK AN INVESTAGATION OF THE TWO COMPANIES ARE IN ORDER.

I called the number and was on hold for about 5 minutes before Rebecca picked up the line. She verified my SS# and said I would not be charged again. She did not try to sell me on the services and was very pleasant on the phone. Maybe it's the luck of the draw when getting one of their reps to help.

IMPORTANT: To stop further charges you just need to go to the bank and cancel your debit card that way they have no way of charging you. Also, you need to contact the company and cancel your "membership" so that the company doesn't try to give you bad credit.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR FREECREDITREPORTdotCOM! Apparently, in very small print within "terms and conditions" you will find that if you do not cancel your 30 day "trial membership" then you will be billed $12.95/month for a subscription to view your credit report! I didn't even spot the payment until the third time I was billed the $12.95. . However, I called my bank and they will credit the charges back to my account. I had to speak with a customer service rep. from Free Credit Report and she kept insisting that I keep my subscription (not to mention that I could barely understand a damn word she was saying). The charges are NON-REFUNDABLE from the Free Credit Report company. The name "FREE Credit Report" is misleading and falsely advertised. I am extremely dissatisfied with this company. Shame on them.

I am too getting charged... I dont even remember giving out my credit card information..I thought I signed up for a one time three month deal not a monthly charge... anyway I called to cancel and the rep went through the long benefits speech trying to make me change my mind. Supposedly he canceled my account, lets see what happens next month.

This is from he free credit report you always see and hear about on tv. They ask you to use your credit card to get the report however. then they get you every month. The only way to cancel this is to call [protected]. Its the number to the free credit customer service. You have to call to cancel your account, you cannot do it online. It took me about 10 minutes to cancel. Hope this helps.

Ugh. I got a random charge to one of my bank accounts and called my bank's fraud department. Wachovia has awesome customer service and I was able to be credited the charge back and directed to the number [protected].

I have since canceled the debit card associated with that bank account, and I waited for a rep. from freecreditreport for about 10 minutes and had them cancel the account. They told me I didn't get my access code and offered a free month of monitoring, I told them no and got no further hassle and was told my membership is now canceled. I'm surprised I wasn't bothered with other stupid offers. I guess they figured out Americans aren't as dumb as the media portrays...

Geez.

My account was charged $18.95 and I took the first person's advise on this thread.

My bank representative three-way called CIC Triple Advanta and CIC's rep argued that their disclosure statement is clearly visible and non-refundable. I asked him if he wanted me to send him the link to this site to see how many complaints are listed against this company and ultimately promised to refund my money.

Also, my bank rep was kind enough to tell me that she uses annualcreditreport.com which is truly free! Nor do you have to list your bank information! Thank you Wachovia!

CIC*Triple Advanta is Experian/FreeCreditReport.com's Triple Advantage Credit monitoring service. It's Experian's credit monitoring service... but they suck you in thru the "freecreditreport.com" website... you think you're at the government sponsored site, but you're not... you're at an Experian site which uses misdirection and misleading information to get you to sign up for something you didn't intend. You can cancel your Experian Triple Advantage Credit monitoring service any time by calling: [protected].

And when you're done with them, tell em to piss off.

Was applying for a free credit report and was directed to a page that must have been affiliated with this company. When I realized I wasn't ordering a full credit report from a reputable, known credit agency i.e. Trans Union, Experian, etc... I immediately canceled the registration process, however I am still being charged-- and for what service is completely unapparent to me. Not only that there seems to be no way to contact the company directly; I'm handling the issue through my bank. This is completely frustrating.

01/31/2008 CIC*TRIPLE ADVANTA $12.95-

The statement on my check cashing visa or how every I signed without knowing looks like the above item. I called the [protected] # and was on hold for about 5 minutes. I finally got through to a customer service representative and after listening to her trying to sell me the great benefits. I repeated three simple words "'cancel my account". I said the three simple words cutting of the customer representativ e in mid-sentence with a respectfull and monatone voice and finally got what I wanted a cancellation of the acive account.

I tried the free credit thing on Jan 7th, and called them on Feb 7th to cancel as not to have any charges. Their number by the way is [protected]. They said no, because Jan had 31 days and I should have cancelled. I told them if I did not recieve a refund, I would post pages on My Space, Face Book, Yahoo Groups, etc and make as many aware as possible. They promised a refund... 7 to 10 days... we shall see.
