no response when transmitter caught fire
The transmformee underground caught fire on my block and the fire department arrived to put it out. Con Ed was called MULTIPLE times and took over an hour to respond. I called because there were still signs of a fire underground and Con Ed still hadn't shown up. When I called, the representative wasn't helpful at all. He had an attitude and said we had to wait for a crew because they were busy with outages. I told him that I was concerned about the safety of my family and neighbors. When I asked if he suggest that we evacuate with the fire underground and he said "well that's a decision you all have to make." He didn't seem to care at all.
Street work that has been forgotten
I live on 130th street between Lenox and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.
there was work being done on the street back in October and the men are finished but they never closed up the hole.
what they left in the street poses a danger to children in the area.
it is taking up valuable parking space. and has otherwise been forgotten by Con Edison.
Please get them to take their stuff and remove it?
customer service
Some of Con Edison representatives and supervisors are definitely out to lunch. I've called multiple times asking certain questions and the rep doesn't explain or answer my question so I ask for a supervisor...always without fail...a supervisor will call u back they never ever call back. After never receiving a call back...you call...they say well it's not in your notes that a supervisor was suppose to call...that is so unprofessional! Example, I wanted to know why my bill went from $88 to $214 within a month (in the winter) when I live in a small apt...so they try to say because we got an accurate meter reading...so they canceled the original bill without letting me know after I had already paid it...they said they sent me a knew bill which I never received. To make matters worse some of them never listen they talk right over you...unless you raise your voice and use curse words. Then they say cursing isn't necessary...I say well listen to me and stop trying to talk over me. They are very unprofessional! If there was another power company in New York...I would switch in a flash...and I'm sure others would agree by the reviews I have read.
unprotected utility pole
A coned wooden utility pole in pelham manor, ny has been struck twice by cars in the last year. Each time, power has been lost to several homes in the neighborhood. This pole should have some type of barrier protection installed to prevent future power disruptions. There should also be large safety reflectors attached to the pole to make it more visible at night. The pole is at the intersection of colonial avenue and wynnewood road in pelham manor.
service termination
Cancelled gas service for an apartment in October. Original conversation was brief and pleasant, and the process was very simple. Just got billed 2.5 months later for said address. Con Ed has "no record" of the original phone call (or, quite possibly, the one I just made). Was told I have to email my old lease information to an employee's (whom refused to give me their name) personal email address (Really?) or produce "proof" of the phone call. Besides phone records (that I offered to provide), what would "proof" include? Employee was unable to articulate. Would very much like my account closed (because it should've been already) and any remaining balance erased, as my last payment was processed over a month ago.
employee working on s 11th street 12/14/16 5:00 pm
Male Worker sitting in his Mini Van guarding cones on 65 South 11th Street.
He was rude and aggressive. I was parking my car, of course had room and parked behind the cone.
He came out of the van walked toward me, and starting screaming I am calling the tow truck right now multiple times.
Mean while, I am in a legal spot. There are no permits indicating any work will be done.
I told him, all he had to say. You can't park there, which is what I told him and that he didn't have to be rude.
This was unnecessary behavior. He needs to be trained in customer service. Meanwhile all he does is sit in a van, and wear a reflective vest.
Get real.
unethical behavior of con ed employee
12.2.2016 @ 11:25pm roughly right in front of 98 bayard st.
vehicle NY plate 66603ME stopped in the middle of the street; no signals, no hazards turned on; just parked in the middle of the street.
there was no way to get around the vehicle as there were CITI bikes parked to the right hand side and the road was too narrow on the left (i would have to drive on the side walk). I polietly waited there roughly 5mins, there was no motions in the vehicle; cars behind were honking. An african american employee comes out of the driver side and puts his hand in my face and yells "BACK UP BACK UP; I want to park there!" He was pointing at the left side of the st but the entire block was literally free! He could have easily continued driving UP the block or even could have started to park right next to him. but instead he had to come up to me, in the middle of the night and put his hand in my face! this is seriously rediculious!
I understand that he might be there for a job, but to hold up traffic and then to come out in a threatening manner and put his hands in my face to tell me to move just so he could park in a spot was truely uncalled for.
I have a photo of the block at the time this incident happened, and it clearly shows there were no cars next to him or in his vicinity. he could have pulled over like a normal person and waited for traffic to pass.
meter reading.
A year and a half ago Con Ed installed a third meter for the landlord right next to the existing meters outside my house. I did not receive a bill from them for about a year. Now they claim they can not read the meter.
The meters are right next to the existing meters which have been read for the last 50 yrs or so.
I tried to call and spent about an hour trying to get a costumer service but the wait was between 25 to 30 minutes. If I run my business that way I'll be on the unemployment line in a month.
Help for a extremely frustrated customer.
electric
Due to Con Edison cutting back on power I cannot cook in my oven with the air conditioner on. If I use certain appliances together the circuit blows and I have to keep resetting it. I have a bill of 575.00 for one month and they have the right to cut back on my usage. I don't have the right to not pay. Where is there justice.
my bill
my financial situation is precarious so i had to apply heap to help me (they opened on Nov 2015 and they close on march 1 2016). in general they help people with 2 grants during the season but in order to qualified they need a disconnection notice each time that you apply. heap help me with 1 grand already but i don't have money and could not make the next payment either. i waited for the disconnection notice for long to apply to heap again. since i did not received it i contacted con ed unsuccessfully. the commission that controls con-ed had to intervene to finally get an answer. miss wetbstone (high command) told me that by mistake con ed put a withhold on my account and this withhold was preventing me to get the disconnection notice. she said, "it was con ed's error". she told me that the withhold will be removed, but i would not have the disconnection notice until middle of March (when heap program will be closed). i begged her and she said that she will remove the withhold on the account immediately and the disconnection notice will be release and posted on my account in 48 hs but I would not have it on my hands until middle of march. she told me to apply and ask heap to contact con ed customer service by phone in 48 hours when the disconnection notice will be available for employees to see it and they will be explained heap the situation. next day feb.20 i send my application to heap. 48 hs. later i called co ed to make sure that the withhold on my account was removed but customer service informed me that this lady switch withhold on the account for extension on the account until march 7 making impossible the release of a disconnection notice again and making impossible for them to see it cause there was nothing to see. this lady only changed the terms:(withhold for extension) but the situation remains the same and even worst because i trusted this lady and i put on my application what will be consider a lie. how can somebody be so cruel?; i am desperate, i can not stop crying. in 8 days the heap program will be closed. how i will pay such amount of money if my financial situation could not be worst?. in 8 days con ed won't hesitate to disconnect my services. this is not the first time that con ed do repudiable things to me. please somebody help me.
high electric bill for years
We live in the same tiny 2 bedroom apt in Brooklyn for more than 15 years .Our average bill for electric is 140.00 (small tiny place!)We are ripped off by Con Edison every single month, I had complain to them numerous times and they send they people 3 times in this 15 years to check the meter and to convince us that this is the way how the things work and that we indeed spent that much electric .This is insane and not accurate .One time they convinced me to buy brand new fridge because my fridge was not economical .This is OK we needed new fridge anyway, of course nothing ever changes we tried to shut the lights or change all bulbs into more economical solution, nothing changed .
Once they came and told me why do I complain I do not pay water bill, nor heat bill (being in that complex of apartments where landlord pays for these bills)so why should I complain about their bill ?This was the most disgusting conversation I ever had with them .This is when I realized that we are all in their mercy and they can rip us all as much and as for long they want .
I am planning to find the way to fight this, I wish if there is more people that suffer as us and I am convinced that people are really suffering by this Con Edison abuse .
If there is somebody who can give me a guidance how to approach this from legal stand point please come forward ?!
Thank you very much for your attention

refusal to change due date at request of customer and hidden fees in billing
I have had the same apartment for 40 years. For years I have requested of Con Edison to change my Due Date from the 3rd of the month to a later date - 10th or 12th of the month, so that I will be able to pay it on time. And those requests have always been refused. My income comes in on the same date as the bill from Con Edison is Due. Therefore, I get a late fee every month, as well, as a Turn-Off Notice. Also, I find that there are Hidden Fees in many bills, that are unexplained. I believe that my bills are much higher than they should be, and it is an exploitation on the part of Con Ed. I think that Con Edison is completely corrupt. I have had bills that are very suspect. Also, one of my friends that lives in a small apartment in NYC gets charged about $300 month. That is extremely exploitative.
I'm in the same situation. pay late most of the time because all my bills are due in the middle of the month but coned is in the beginning. they base the due date around the time the meter reader comes. they can satisfy our requests very easily with partial month estimation. it's time for coned to move on from their antiquated bill scheduling.
If you're bill is really high, you should definitely get your electrical circuits checked out. It's extremely possible that a circuit was incorrectly wired and you are paying for your neighbors a/c. Also look up the article of the guy who paid for the public streetlights outside his house for 20+ years because someone messed up the wiring when building the house.
hidden fees in coned statements
As new resident, ConEd does not make an effort to provide much information on how residents will be billed. They take your information and charge you things you did not expect. After receiving the bill and noticing that I spent very little on gas and electric, you realize there is a basic service charge. When speaking with representative, they said sorry no one informed you but cant do anything about it. Why is it that new residents are victimized and not informed when signing up with ConEd? having used about $1 worth of gas and electric they profit from the basic delivery charge that is flat fee regardless if you used anything. They need to be more transparent and new residents should not have to go through a trial and error period. We should not have to call them to change these things. They should recommend to us how we plan to use energy and provide best solution. I am sure a silicon valley company will come out of all this and help society to best inform them on efficient solutions and cost savings.
consumer service, received a payment agreement w/o requesting one
10/29/15, acct. # [protected] received a turn-off notice, with a payment plan, second mention the first was a post card, and a security deposits due immediately. Spoke to Mr. Sabor informed that the practice is shifty, intimidating and condescending . I felt very uncomfortable. This is not the first time this agency has done this. If I'm unable to...

Many of the Con Ed Workers are thugs and thieves. The Welders work overnight to get overtime when really the time is spent at bars and strip clubs instead of fixing steam pipes and gas leaks. They drink and gamble on the job as well as a whole other host of illegal activities.
not responsive
The building is plagued by an unstable voltage feed for the elevator. This can cause a malfunction that could hurt people inside it either by entrapment or by blunt force trauma.
This is an intermittent problem since the feed voltage depends upon when you measure it. In the dead of Summer, with higher load, the voltage drops and the problem is evident.
Conedison made it difficult to lodge a complain by not accepting the elevator technician voltage measurement and demanding an certified electrician. This requires to bring two independent contractors into the building at the same time. Eventually the complain was accepted. Currently we have been awaiting without elevator for more than a month (if you consider the timing when we initially complained) or weeks since they finally accepted the complain. Needless to say, that affect the people who have to climb the staircase to their apartments. Many are elderly and might not be up to the task.
Conedison claims it cannot provide a schedule for fixing it or even for inspecting it.
I am concerned that this lack of interest will just kick the can until next Summer when the problem will make itself evident again either by trapping or by hurting someone.
overcharging disabled clients
I am seeking an attorney who is serious about bringing allegations against Con Edison regarding overcharges, fraud, and abuse of disabled customer accounts. I am sure they will find many counts of fraud in my account alone. I have filed complaints after complaints with the PSC. In one occasion of many, I was told that they did not care who I was or what my condition was and that my debt needed to be paid. I was not calling for my account, but I was advocating for my mother as I handle her affairs as well. Senior Supervisor went and signed me up for a payment plan without my authority and falsified documents and signatures to force me to partake in a plan I did not agree with. I am serious about filing suit against the PSC and Con Edison. In the month of December 2013 my bill was completely satisfied and left at 0.00 balance. The following bill was 346.00 and I am left dumbfounded as to how a bill this large has come since I have not lived at the apartment since 2012. I was injured in my apartment and I am refraining from living there until it is fixed. The light switch within my home is fixed so that energy will not flow through a certain part of the home. The only thing running is the refrigerator on a monthly basis. Everything else is unplugged. I am really fed up and I have to choose between eating and feeding my family from paying Con Edison's overcharges. Con Edison has a habit of causing a person to default on payment plans to charge even more, which has happened to me twice. I have proven to them that it was an error and the bank has vouched for me and this has not been honored. They find a way to charge you more and more every month.
Please contact me at [protected]@yahoo.com. I will only respond to serious emails from attorneys. Thank you.
Your complaint is all over the place with no substantive basis for it.
fraud
I believe that Con Edison have been discreetly withholding information. I recieve heap from the state to assist with my home energy services, but everytime ConEd recieve funding Im not notified right away. In addition to that, I feel that each year that I recieved aid the company has discreetly taken partial of the fundings. There accounting seems off to me and Im not convince that the bill is correct. Please help me resolve this issue with the company because Im certain they're not being honest with me.
I moved in 2011 on September 2013 there was a meter exchange. From my understanding my bills were adjusted, which sumed up to a large amount. I have all my statements from this resident and the passed two years a my prior location and it just doesn't add up. I need help with this matter
don't know how to turn on the gas
Today 02/04/15. The ConEdison turn off our gas service since 8:00am on the morning, because of the gas pipe works. They told us the gas will be back on at 3:00pm afternoon (which never did). They told us they need to wait for the ConEd people come to turn it back on.
Then the tech guy came and he haven't no idea how to turn on the gas. He spend two hours and don't even know how to turn it on. Then I call the "Emergency numbers" at 10:00pm at night and still no one come.
my baby is one and half year one. how can we live without NO GAS, HOT WATER and HEAT in this winter night. Please someone give me some advice what I can do.
service failure
I moved into my new apartment on December 1st. I attempted to contact CON Edison in advance of my move in order to set up electric and gas services. I have a two month old son and did not want to move into an apartment with no lights or heat in the winter. I was informed that I needed to first provide them my lease and then they would turn on the service. After receiving the lease on the 1st and immediately faxing it to CON Edison they did not receive it, although I had a confirmation fax showing they did receive the fax. I resent the fax the following day to then be informed that I had to wait another day for them to turn on the service. For three days my son, wife and I have to sit in a cold apartment with no electricity for what reason? If we had an individual who needed the assistance of medical equipment they might have done it sooner but since I do not they would rather my infant child not have his milk refrigerated, not have hot running water all for what? The lease was paid and provided. All paperwork and information requested was sent in a timely manner. I have no choice but to use these monsters for their service because there is no other provider for gas and electric service. I called 311 to report them but they are a private agency and 311 can not assist. By the time you read this letter they probably would have put the lights on but that would have been after waiting three days and no one but my wife and I caring for the well being of our infant child. This is ridiculous we have to endure this and for what; for CON Edison to feel powerful and toss their power around. I want them reported for their practice. I want their lack of respect and professionalism to be reported. I will not have a satisfying conclusion to this as I have to allow CON Edison to bend me over and screw me raw as they like because I am the pauper begging for scraps at their table. My son has to suffer and cry as his parents just stand by and not be able to do anything as all the money we have was spent on moving fees, apartment fees, gas and tolls. This practice and agency need to be reported and stopped.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
