Unexplained additional billing charges
I had an outstanding bill of $915.60. I was able to make a lump sum payment of $800.00. Remaining balance to pay was $115.60. My account was added an additional deposit requirement of $245.00 along with the next billing cycle amount of $106.40 making my new charges a total of $467.00 along with a final shut-off notice. I called them on 12/21 at 9:38am and inquired about the deposit requirement. I was not given an explanation for this deposit. I asked if it can be removed to make my bill a total of $222 (minus the extra $245 deposit). I was told if I can make a deposit of $222, the other deposit will be waived. I made a payment of $222 upon calling them on 1/4/23 at 12:39pm. A rep told me they would not waive the deposit unless I arranged my account to be set as an automatic monthly payment or break down the deposit in a payment plan. My current bill remains a total of $467.00 and I received the bill on 1/11/23 with payment agreement forms to sign and still with a turn off service notice. This recent notice from them was created on 1/3/23. I do not understand still why the additional deposit when all I needed to pay was a previous balance of $115.60.
Desired outcome: I would like the deposit requirement of $245 to be removed along with the constant shut off notice
Shutting off of gas
HI there Con Edison did respond to a gas leak in front of my house at 8326 256th Street Glen Oaks New York 11004. As a result my gas was turned off in my house and when they tried to turn it back on it stopped the water heater/furnace from operating effectively. I had to call in the plumber which cost me 300 dollars. I do have the receipt to show your company. I would like to be reimbursed for all costs. Thank you very much for your assistance with this matter. Diana St. James.

Desired outcome: Please reimburse me for the 300 dollar Plumbers bill.
Parking - Van Cortlandt village - St. Patrick's nursing home
Two nights ago a couple of vehicles began taking up parking spaces (in front of st. Patrick's nursing home) putting out cones each time a vehicle moved. Tonight they have approximately a dozen spaces while hard-working, tax-paying, homeowners scramble for parking. If con edison is in fact scheduled to perform work, then it can post street closing, no parking signs for the dates/times that it will be prepared to start work — not wholesale take up parking days in advance. I have also notified the nypd and the mayor's office. As of now, con ed is responsible for the individuals representing themselves as your agents for purposes of taking up the parking, so either you remove them or stand up for them when the consequences come.
Desired outcome: Move your cars and cones, post signs when you're ready to begin work, tow cars who don't respect the signs. Period.
Same thing in the West Village. This is a bad practice. They reserve the spots well before performing work in the community. They have had nearly half of the street taken up near 220 W Houston street right now with absolutely no work being performed. There is a man, with no identification he is a Con Edison employee or contractor, sitting in his car day and night to harass anyone who tries to take a spot. I will report this to the police as well.
DESIRED OUTCOME: Stop using this practice.
Scammy bill increases
Con Edison has to be looked into for their corrupt and fraudulent practices. They are taking advantage of residents here and robbing them if their money. They're making up false stats and basing results on what they "typically" see. This started last year during the pandemic, specifically around the late fall. I live in a one bedroom apartment. I lightly use electricity. Now I get colder months my bill should increase, but it shouldn't triple and quadruple. I contacted them several times about this matter because my bill increases weren't making sense. So, this year in September I noticed a sudden increase in my bill. But, I wasn't using any big items such as heating or air conditioning. The weather was favorable. I barely washed my clothes. Then, in November I did the exact same thing primarily but my bill increased all the way to 130. I was confused because I had not increased my electricity use. They send these fake stats. Then, in December my bill was 220.00 almost similar to last year but I had not used heat as much as I did last year. In fact, I have a heating blanket and invested in a very small space heater. I have not even touched the attached heater that I have in my apartment this year as I did last year. So, that brings me to the point of how is my bill on the same marking and increased so much? It just got cold a few days ago. This is clearly a scam and needs to be looked into. Democrats can't keep wanting our votes in this city and country and they allow thinfs like this to happen to law abiding citizens. People may as well commit a crime and go to go to prison so they can get free heat. I live in a one bedroom apartment. I can imagine what 2 or 3 bedrooms would cost unless they are just targeting me. I know in the colder months it will go all the way past 300 just like last year even though I'm not using as much heat. I left in the month of February for a family matter out of state and still my bills were increasing. It's ludacris. I had a tough time paying that high bill down. I refuse to repeat this situation. When you call the reps will say typically the bills do this in certain months. We haven't even gotten to the months yet. Then, they will say what happened last year but I just told the guy I'm not even using electricity in the same way that I did last year. They are running as a monopoly which is already unlawful. They are taking advantage of customers with false statistics and fraudulent abd corrupt practices. I know none of this makes sense because I know what I was doing. They need legitimate competition. This sheisty company definitely needs to be audited, looked into. I won't stop fighting until it does.
Desired outcome: This company has to be looked into. I want my bill reduced and locked in at a set price.
Gas service at 3159 Villa Avenue - account [protected]
3159 Villa Avenue. Gas application was made from January. Con Edison removed the gas meter from this property in error after all information was resubmitted from June 2022. We have been in constant dialogue with Con Edison from June to date (12/13/2022). Ticket numbers 165938, 171214,172760 and still no meter reinstalled. We have been issued numerous violations from HPD and no resolve from Con ED. The representatives keep saying they called. Even though 4 different contact numbers were provided and none received a call. There is absolutely no way it should take over 4 months to install a meter under any circumstance
Desired outcome: ConED needs to install the meter and clear the HPD violations as well as compensate the tenants for inconvenience caused
Bill with the new Smart Meter
Con Edison switched the meters to smart meters, this building is 4 story building from the 1900s. My mom who is 82 years old is on a fixed income. And now they have sent her a retro bill for the past years. A Bill for $3k. And when I called their response is past bills were a monthly estimate. Now with the smart meter she will get an exact bill. But in the meantime pay for your past bills that was not included in your previous bills. How do you send a retro bill without any warning. And they will allow you a payment plan but my mom is on a fixed income. Please advise if anyone else has had this situation.
Desired outcome: Not bill this outrageous bill
Deafening, ineffective forklift beepers increase cardiac risk, do not protect workers - just makes them go deaf
ConEd construction on 19th St by Astoria Park in zip code 11105 for the past few weeks has had a 100 Deibel forklift beeper going off repeatedly. Short video I've attached shows one example of the many instances the beeper is used when no one is near the forklift and view is not obstructed, but beeper is going off anyway causing hearing loss to workers and increasing the risk of a cardiac event for my 82-year-old father who is on 2 heart medications.
Desired outcome: Forklifts with white noise alerts provide true protection without damaging hearing or increasing cardiac risk from the noise.
Utility Bill / Gas and Electric
I ran up quite a utility bill during covid aand was able to become current
At some point, Con Edison required a $150 deposit for a late payment.
I recently missed a monthly payment, and was assessed an additional $160. Deposit, In addition to the usage amount due.
I called and arranged to make a payment less the $160.deposit
Now I am receiving disconnect notices for non payment of the $160.
I am baffled
I have never had service disconnected before, in the 5+ years here
Covid happened
I was able to pay my bills and $150. deposit previously requested.
Now, as I missed one month, they wat another deposit of $160.
If I had all that money to give them, I wouldnt miss a payment
Why do they punish those who struggle, but never got disconnected before cause I pay my bills.
Thanks
Desired outcome: Waive the requested additional deposit of $160. and continue service. (Even though the gas has been shut off for 3 weeks now due toa gas leak near the bldg and I am unable to cook food for myself)
Energy Service
The gas was turned off on our building to remove a kitchen from the bar on the first floor all paperwork has been filed and approved since 10/4/22 - it is now 14 days later and we have had no response. I have personally called con ed myself 7 times and they can never reach anyone in the energy service dept.
There are two residential units also the tenants have complained and are planning to take this to the local council.
We where told today that the person dealing with the case was out and no one else took it over in their absence.
It has been below 50s for 48 hours now. This is obviously not acceptable.
Desired outcome: Someone to respond to us immediately
Electricity
I filed a complaint earlier this year but here I am again. It is absolutely impossible for me to keep up with my Con Edison bill. It is extremely high, and I feel like I am drowning in it. I am currently up to a little over $1,800.00. I do not qualify for any assistance because I make "too much" money which is in reality not a lot of money at all. I have rent, and other bills and my Con Edison bill has become an extra expense that is ridiculous. It feels like I am paying a car note and insurance. Something has to be done because it's unacceptable and unrealistic to think I can keep up with this. I am in fear every week that my lights will be shut off. No matter how much times I pay or start a payment agreement, the next month's bills just always seem to increase. This can't be legal, and I am looking further into it. Bu for now, I need answers and assistance.
Desired outcome: Would like someone to contact me in order to resolve.
Gas line restoration
Re: Natural gas hook up
Account: [protected]
To whom it may concern:
We left the U.S due to the Covid pandemic and unfortunately, Con Edison gas company cut our gas line without notification. When we contacted customer service, we found out we had to install a new meter and hire a licensed plumber.
On February 3rd, 2022, we hired Dundee plumbing & Heating company which started working on restoring our gas line. Since then, the gas company neglected our case, do not respond to our calls, and ignored the plumber's emails.
Frustrated, On June 2022 we contacted ConEd again and asked to speak with a manager. We were assured that the gas line will be connected to the house sometime in August 2022 and that someone will contact us in a day or two for an appointment. Unfortunately, to this day we haven't heard from them. However, at the same time, we continue to receive emails from your company urging us to take action and make an appointment to install the new smart meter.
This is annoying and outrageous conduct by a gas company. We are unable to return home due to their neglect in restoring our gas line.
Con Edison should be liable and responsible for the misconduct of connecting us to a gas line. The winter is almost here and we MUST have a gas supply for hot water and heat. Otherwise, we will have no choice but contact the NYC hotline, NYC officials, local news outlets, Social media, and file a complaint against ConEd for misleading and providing us with false information.
We hope this email will find you willing to rectify this matter in a quick and amicable way.
Regards,
Linda Linda Chau

Desired outcome: MUST CONNECT GAS TO OUR HOUSE IMMEDIATELY!!
Gas
My tenant registered for account to turn on service on 08/24/22.
It's been 7 business days,12 days total and for who knows how long it will continue.
I was told that since the gas was off less than 6 months, there would most likely not need an inspection. If it had progressed to that point, I'd be happy.
I've asked for someone else to speak to, since they say, "oh, that's the gas dept". But am told there is no one else to talk to."But the ticket is still open", they say.
How long does it take to remove a lock.
I'm sure the work orders to turn off receive swifter attention.
Desired outcome: Have someone come tomorrow. Sept 6th. If it has to be an emergency call late at night? So be it.

Hazard con edison wires to my house rubbing against metal street light pole
Hazard con Edison wires to my house rubbing against metal street light. The power supply wires going to my home have been rubbing the street light metal support that is supporting the street light. When the insulation wears away it will cause an electrical hazard to the light pole and down to they ground. It will also cause my home to lose power, an unnecessary power outage. Please see two pictures of pole, pole number and picture of 220V wires supping Electric.

Pole installation
This is my second complaint.
A month ago Con Edison installed new pole on my property at 115-27 Mayfair rd, Richmond Hill NY 11415.
Con Edison workers left property with a lot of debris and garbage.
Part of my sidewalk 5 x 5 ft was destroyed during underground installation of new electric cable and was promised by Con Edison supervisor to replace with new concrete by their contractor.
Nothing happening ,no one comes to finish their job.
Please let me know your decision to e-mail : [protected]@gmail.com

They are digging my new concrete sidewalk and after work temporary covered sidewalk with black top asphalt.
No one came after that to restore my damaged concrete sidewalk which can bring fall of pedestrians and insurance claim.
Please send your contractor to restore my sidewalk to original condition.

Billing
In 2 1/2 years I’ve probably been late on my electric bill maybe twice given the pandemic and my hours being cut. I’m back to work but my hours still aren’t the way they used to be. I finally got a little money in my account and I decided to go pay my con Ed bill which was $131 due on the 23rd of may, my check cleared yesterday the 27th of may. When I opened the app to go ahead and pay I see that it is now $417
A “security deposit” is required and I’m being threatened with a shut off notice. I spoke with my neighbor and they had no idea of this, the reason I even asked my neighbor was because I know they were out of work for a long while and it was several months before they paid their bill. So why me as a paying customer who’s on time if not early majority of the time with this service am I being hit with this “security” deposit?
Desired outcome: I would like for this deposit to be dropped so I can pay my normal bill & continue doing so. Looking forward to a response.
Project Center Energy Services
Its has been months since we have gotten any clear answers from Con Edison's energy service department. We have be told on several occasions that the work would be done at such and such date and then that dates passes and nothing gets accomplished. We have been put through the ringer here with absolutely no accurate answers from Con Edison and the people working for their energy Service department. We are extremely upset as this has put our project on hold for months now.

Noisy construction street plates-Manhattan
Con Ed has been jack-hampering and digging holes for several weeks along West 11 Street to install new gas pipelines. The problem is that several of the metal plates laid over holes to cover areas of unfinished work are loose and make loud banging noises with each car and truck that drives over them.
It sounds like the three loose plates are located around 223 West 11 Street, between Waverly Place and West 4th Street in Manhattan.
Con Ed has been doing this type of street work for so long, it’s unbelievable that this particular problem continues.
Desired outcome: Secure the loose plates so they no longer bang. Create an online site for street work-specific problems where complaints are promptly addressed. Make it a priority that foreman properly install these plates on all sites.
