I have had direct TV now for about three months and have had one problem after another. I had initially switched from cable to DirectTV because I thought that their high definition service would be superior. Big mistake. Since the time of install I have been through 4 high definition receivers, each one failing for a different reason. When your service goes out with DirectTV your only option is to wait for a replacement box or for a service tech which in my case has taken close to a week each time. My service has been so spotty that I have had to retain my cable so that I have a backup. Talk about spending too much for T.V. service. Now that my experience with these buffoons has soured to the point it has i decided that i had had enough. Unfortunately their two year contract insulates them from having to provide any level of acceptable service at all. Even though my experience has been a nightmare and I have spent countless valuable hours trying to resolve issues they will not offer to terminate my contract no matter how many times I have requested this. I am currently without any service again and I have decided that I am going to bite the bullet and pay the termination fee. I am not litigious person but have considered taking these bullies to court. I can't imagine that I am the only person that has had these issues. I would avoid doing business with this company at all cost. I wish good luck to all those that are in the same boat as me.
Direct TV is the biggest joke ever, I will never say a bad word about cable and thier service again! When you have a cable problem, they fix the issues without charge, they stand up behind their product. You can also come and go with cable without getting all the ridiculous fees. To top it off, my bill has been all over the place, Direct TV is nothing but criminal and no one should use them. I am so sick of them, sounds like there is not way to get out of the termination fee, but I am going to try and I will go up the chain until I talk to the CEO, even if I pay in the long run, i will tell them all they way to the top that they suck! I would suggest that everyone on a daily basis submit them to the Better Business Bureaus, if anything we may be able to prevent others from dealing with their pain.
These are all helpful. Do anyone have a current name of the VP, CEO etc. I need to write them about their incompetent and poorly trained employees. They lie about the hidden installation fees that they never inform you about until a techinician is out to install Direct TV.
Same thing happened to us. We had our Direct TV for a couple of years, then when we moved they asked if we wanted a extra receiver for our bedroom. We said sure. A year later we canceled our service because we moved again and DTV would not move our system for free. We went to Dish Network. DTV said we were still under contract (because they sent us the extra receiver) and charged my card for a $ 137.00 termination fee without my authorization.

I decided to Pay for Direct Tv on my ex-girlfiend's account for a couple months after she moved out. i called to cancel after a couple of months and they told me i couldn't because i wasn't the account holder. they wouldn't even allow me to send back the recievers. they told me to forget about it and not worry nothing would happen to me. 4 months after i called them Direct TV took out 463.09 from my checking account, without my consent. The checking account was not in my ex's name and never was. Direct TV told me that since i used the card they charge any card they see on file. I have since spent 4 consecutive days dealing with these people and won't try to help. I have talked to every level of "customer service reps" including the managers and they all tell me to "don't worry about it". This is completly ridiculous and I am at my wits end. They told me that they would get me my money within 8 days but refuse to confim that they even recieved the information they requested. I hope these people get sued bigtime and know what it feels like to get screwed!

I wish I had read these comments before I subsribed to DirectTV. I have a lot of complaints about them also. I am totally unhappy with their service. I left Comcast because they raised the rates so drastically but then I got hooked into a worst situation.
I am really ticked off!
They have now decided that we are liable for the early termination fee since we had purchased a new box, and they don't care that it was to replace a defective one. Between the $380 termination fee, the $100 fee for a new box (the box was returned to them) and the over draft fees in the amount of $195, they have now caused a loss of $675 to our account. The only way we can reclaim any money is to take them to small claims court, which costs guess what, more money. I just don't see how they can legally get away with this! We signed no contract, we asked for no new services, we were never told it would up our contract. How can they claim we entered into a contract for two years when we knew nothing about it? Buyer Beware! Believe me, I am at the point of passing out flyers in our neighborhood and I will warn everyone I have any contact with to avoid this company at all cost.
Yep, I as well had the same problem. I have my contract and NO WHERE in my contract does it say that they cant revoke payment from an checking account without autorization. I have contacted the BBB. I'm thinking that maybe everyone else should too. I was shocked to see all the complaints about Direct TV when there are no complaints on file for the company at all (at least in the Los Angeles area). I opend up a new complaint on the company and im going to see where it goes. I asked for my fee to be refunded as well as my overdraft fee that my bank is now charging me, but honestly they have inconvienced me (6 months pregnant and could think of pleanty of things to do at this time with the $556 that they took), that i think more should be done to them for what they are doing. I terminated my services with Direct TV due relocating and was told to keep my equipment until I got here to reconnect, I never reconnecting and requested they send me labels to pick up equipment and for three months I never recieved anything, they send me a monthly bill for services they never provided, unbelievable, I call and ask them to send me a recovery kit and nothing came, but the monthly bills did. Well to my surprise they suspended my account and withdrew 441.00 from my account, I called customer service, I was told basically to bad not our problem and we can let you talk with a supervisor which I didn't, so they pass me to the recovery department and they advised me a recovery kit would be sent to me in the next couple of days and my money would be credited back in 2 weeks, I advised him this was not acceptable and they need to refund my money as soon as possible. I asked is there anybody else I can speak with and they said "no" So I ask where can I send a complaint to and basicall I didn'y get nothing, so I call my bank and we will dispute this charge, I'm very surprise that this company is still in business with practices like this, maybe there right in saying that something needs to be done to make sure they never do this to anybody agian. I really don't care for them and I will never do any business with them again.
I had a bundle deal with Verizon that included Direct TV. Everything I was told by the Verizon rep appears to be far from reality. I knew nothing of the 2 year contact which renews itself each time you replace a piece of broken equipment. The only assistance they gave when I called was there customer compliant mailing address of PO 6550, Greenwood Village CO [protected]. I would suggest that no one enrolls with Direct Tv. High Prices for poor channel selections. It is like having endless informocials on more channels than everything else.
DTV charged me a additional $200 dollars for an early cancellation fee. I never was on contract with them, . After several found calls to no success I found that they signed me up for a "equipment replacement program" for a faulty receiver I apparently returned. Only thing is I have never returned a receiver as defective. I actually closed my account because of Customer service reasons and to this day have 1 extra receiver that they never accounted for. My final bill was 482.00 and change. Ripped off $200. PSSD OFF!
Both Dish Network and Direct TV force subscribers in the South East part of OHIO to watch WV programming. Why on earth would anyone in OHIO care about what is going on in WV as far as local news? Both claim they cannot provide OHIO programming in our area when in fact it's a total lie. Residents in our area who've moved here from Columbus bring their satellites with them and hook them up and receive OHIO programming. What gives? It seems as if we are being forced to make a stronger market for an area in which we care nothing for. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against WV and if something needed to be shared from WV I would watch it on CNN or FOX but in general I care about what goes on in my own state not another. Why would I care about WV football? Or what happens in the capitol of WV? I want to watch Columbus news and weather and personally I like to know what is happening in my state not WV.
So unless you live in a rural area I advise you NOT to use the services of Direct TV or Dishnetwork. I am sure this happens in other areas. Our installer even said all it takes is a different zip code and we could get OHIO NEWS but he was not allowed too.
On August 6th, 2008 my fiance called Direct TV to settle on our past due account of $807.76(charges for fees on boxes unless returned or account is reinstated.) Direct TV settled on $225.00(we reinstated our account.) Within a day or two I went to make a withdrawl and there was no money left in my account. After going over my account I realized Direct TV withdrew two seperate amounts, one was for $225.00 and the other was for $582.76, turns out to be a total of $807.76. I immediately called Direct TV and spoke with a supervisor by the name of Marisol. Marisol agreed it was there mistake and they would return $585.09 (with taxes). I then explained to her my account was already insufficient and was accumalating fees. She assured me if I faxed in a statement to her all monies would be returned to my account by Friday August 15th, 2008. I was so excited about finding my money and knowing it would be returned to me that I did not realize how long I would have to wait. Today, (Monday August 11th, 2008) my fiance tried to get in touch with Direct TV to explain to them we needed the money returned sooner. Direct TV stated (Jared)they would be unable to return it any sooner. My fiance asked if we wrote a check for groceries if they would pay the "bounce fee, " he also stated they would be unable to pay the fees. Now for the dilemma, we have five children and that was money needed to buy some groceries, fuel for my car to get to work, and school supplies (school starts on Wednesday), and whatever else I needed to do with "my money." So I guess what I am asking is what am I supposed to do until Friday. I borrowed $20.00 last night to buy $7.83 worth of food for seven people for three meals for today and I put the rest in gas at $3.64 a gallon. I need food for the rest of the week and do not have the resources to beg or borrow. How can someone take your money so quickly and easily out of your account. Yet, take as long as they need to return it. I also had two credit cards I needed to pay and they are now past due (first time.) I cannot believe them they are a bunch of Liars. I called and singed up for the choice program going for 34.99 a month and i get a bill charging me 52.00 and a HD i did not receive. Then the representative goes ahed and insults me saying i ordered HD which i did not and I specifically remember saying i did not, then she claims they sent me the info with prices shich is not true either, then she says they did not..i am going anti Direct TV
I closed my account with direct tv. I never gave the m the ok to go into my account and take all of my money out of my account . That left me with a negative $-48.87 in my account. I could not be able to paid my rent, phone bill, and light and gas. Some of my bills could not be paid. The young lady " and i use that word loosly" did everything that she can to not transfer me over so that i could speake to one of the supervisor. She had me on hold for 7 min. "not very professional at all" came back to tell that she coulnd not find any supervisor at the time. I told her that i will wait i have allllll day! Finally the supervisor came to the phone she also said that my last balance was $557.53 but they will only take $339 and some change. Now i feeled that if and i do mean if a person who was closeing the account had owe this amount of money that the company would that the amount that is really owe to them instead of taking only half and/or partial of it. And the worst part is that they "never and i do mean never" gave me my final bill and i am still waiting on that. But that lady said that the bill was mail on the 29th. Of aug. . But that was the same day that my money come out of my account without my permission. I told that lady that i feel that they are "very and i do mean very unprofessional, unkind, unpolite, and most of all very, very untrained" i demand my money back and i will not go back to them anymore. I subscribed to MLB but for the third time this season I am unable to get the Colorado Rockies game. I live in southwestern Colorado and I am not in any other t.v. broadcast zone as far as Colorado baseball is concerned. There also are no local stations carrying the game.
The last time I complained I was more or less shrugged off with the attitude, "That's life, Dude." No help. No information. Nothing.
Mr. Carey, My name is Bruce Snider & I have had DTV for about 3 years. I have had 4-5 problems losing the signal of 1/2 of my channels on one tv. Every time it has been the multi switch that the techs replace. They have all told me that the problem is the multi switch & they not only change it, they give me another one for a spare. Once this spare goes bad I have to call DTV & go through all of these tests that I do before I call. I also do one test that they dont ask about. I go to the multi switch & I can move the problem from reciever to reciever. The problem obviously isnt in the recievers its the mulit switch. This evening I talked to a gentleman that I felt kept trying to make me feel foolish. I asked to speak to his supervisor & he told me it would take 2-3 minutes to get one. He asked more questions & then put me on hold for a few minutes. He came back with the same questions again. I asked for your name & he told me he could not give me that information. I then asked again for a supervisor & he told me to hang on for 2-3 minutes again. I asked him how big was this place that it takes that long for a supervisor when you have talked to him with a problem customer already. He told me that wasn't information he could give me. I then got to talk with John ID#255107 & he started the whole thing over again. I shared with him that I have had this problem numerous times & that I would like a tech to come look at this problem. He wanted me to get my cell phone & go to my garage to do these tests that I have already done. He wanted me to do them again. I shared with him that the garage does not have a telephone in it & that it was about 100 yards from house. Mr Carey, I know you are a busy man & so am I. I would like to spend my off work hours with my family, & not running back & forth from my garage to do tests that I have already done. I pay $81.22 per month for my DTV with TiVO & 2 other recievers & the equipment protection plan. I feel that I do enough for your company & should get the services that I pay for.I have one other complaint & that would be my TiVO unit. When a storm comes & disrupts my service thats OK. I understand weather affects the signal. But the TiVO unit locks up & must be reset. This started happening a few months ago. I have had a tech out to look at it. He told me the dual LNB was bad. I have never seen one go bad & John told me this evening that is very rare. The tech called his boss & was told that if the TiVO unit still worked they couldn't replace it. It has now gotten to the point where it doesn't record all of the programs it is programmed to record. I have to manually set it to record or it will miss shows from the season pass. I only record first runs. Sir, I & my family really enjoy our DTV when its working properly. But for the money I spend I think we should get a little better service when we have a problem. It has gotten to the point where I truly hate to call in with a problem. The service people act like I am a bother to them. Maybe I'm interupting them with my trivial problems. I left DISH network because I liked the DTV set up that my father in law had. He said he had had both systems & liked DTV more & it cost less. I have to agree with him, it costs a little less, the programing is a little better, but lately I have been very disappointed with the service. I thank you for taking the time to read this. WORST COMPANY EVER! I've had so many problems with Direct TV that I dont even know where to begin... they've completed blown us off for service calls, when we first had the dish in stalled the guy left a mess of garbage in my back yard! oh and heres the latest:
I called today and told the guy I cant watch live TV? he said what is your zip code? I told him and he said yep, its raining right? I said yeah -so? are you serious? Its been raining for days! He told me to wait for the storm to pass. I told him the other TV in my living room is working perfectly fine and we only have ONE DISH! he said to wait for the storm to pass AGAIN and there is nothing he can do. I asked for a credit since he told me there is nothing they can do and he said no, they cant credit due to mother nature. I asked him why the other TV 25 feet away from me is working fine and he had no answer. Then he told me to track the storm on weather.com, and try my signal again? WHAT? I asked him "so your saying until we get a sunny perfect day - I cant watch any TV?" He said YES! are you kidding me? So I said "ok can you guys call me then when we have a nice day so I know when Im able to watch the TV I pay you guys $80 a month for? he of cours said "No we cant make any phone calls" i was so disgusted that I thanked him for all his help and hung up. Dish Network here I come.
This experience has been going on from August till September and i'm not sure that it is done. First thing read the entire contract, small print and ALL. I say this because when you cancel even after your contract is done, you will have authorized them to charge the final bill to any credit or debit card you have on file with them. When you call to cancel they will tell you that they will prorate you bill and send you a bill for the final amount. I never got a bill and wasnt given the opportunity to pay the bill myself with the card of my choice. They take it upon themselves to chose which card you have on file to pay their final bill. They talk out of both sides of their mouths.
About a month before I'd cancel one of my 3 receivers. The told me they would send a box within 3 days for the return of the receiver. That box didnt come until I told them that they never sent it on the day I canceled. They said they would then send boxes for that one and the other 2 that I had now canceled. The box for the 2 came no problem and sent them on to them. Day later a box came for the single one. The model and all info was wrong. Knowing that they will charge you if they claim they dont get the receiver. I called and they said they would send the proper labling info. 3 days later fedex brings a second box for a receiver when the appropriate lable would have done. I boxed the receiver up and before I could get it sent back by Fedex they sent another box and lable for the same receiver. I sent the receiver in the 2nd box. Month later they send me a bill for the receiver claiming they never got it. I know that Fedex picked up the box. After over an hour on the phone with a customer service rep whose computer continuously shut down. She finally found the receiver and sounded as if it were my fault because their were so many boxes sent for the receiver. Thats why they claim they couldnt find it at first. Pretty damned sloppy huh? Thats not the end. Today September 12 I got a collections bill for the receiver amount. Can you believe that afster the rep told me that they were going to escalate the finding of the box that they sent the bill to an outside collection agency. I cant believe that they didnt charge the card again which would have sent the account into the red and caused an additional fee. Directv is very sloppy in their account closing practices. I was told that this would not show up on the credit report. I am going to wait 30 days to see if they are lying about that. If so, I plan to see about filing suit against them for fraud or something. The programming is excellent but closing the account is Hell. READ THE ENTIRE CONTRACT AND MAKE NOTE OF ALL CORRESPONDENCE.
Direct TV is dishonest and only interested in getting your money. They have deceptive Adds that they sucker you in with. I was suckered and then when then installation was all free, they asked for a credit card. When I asked why they need a credit card because the installation was free, they would not answer. Well I found that they billed my credit card for the monthly fees. I complained that I did not give them authorization to bill my card, they sent a bill only after I came down on them.
When I wanted to terminate my Direct TV service, they want a penalty fee. So I stuck it out for the full year, then I terminated. When they bill their final charges and I did not pay them right away they billed my credit card again --- of course without authorization to do so.
I recently discontinued my services with Direct TV. Before doing so, I called Direct TV and asked them what date were services paid through, since I had just sent them a check. The person on the phone gave me the date. I waited until about 3 days before this date to discontinue my services and then I learned that I had to pay for that partial month. They said that they would send me a bill for the final bill.
Okay, I received the bill 9/13/08 and it said that it was due upon receipt. Since this was a Saturday, and there is no mail on Sunday, I wrote a check put it in the mail on that Monday morning.
On Thursday 9/18/08, I received another bill for that amount plus a $5.00 late charge and tax. I called Direct TV and spoke with a person which got me NO where, therefore, I asked to speak to a supervisor. I got a "supervisor" who was no help. All she would tell me that I was billed on the 13th. Okay I was billed on the 13th, but how I get it to her any faster than I did. She said they received my payment on the 17th. I even asked to speak someone above the "supervisor" and I was put on hold but somehow got cut off... hmmmmm Makes you wonder?
How can a company charge you a late charge and there was no possible way of me getting it to them any faster? I have no online bank service, so I could not send it them electronically.
What is the world coming to when you try to do things right? I sent them the final payment and I still get sorry treatment like this! Is there anyway to stop this company from railroading their customers? I could go on and on and on about Direct TV. That is just one of the many reasons that I discontinued their services anyway.
Is there any help out here? I know that it is only $5.00 plus tax, but just how many of these $5.00 late fees have this company received from other customers in the past and will in the future?
When we moved to a differnt house and attemted to cancel them they told us we needed to pay the cancelation fee. The house we were moving into would not allow us to put up a dish on or on a stand. We were told we should have considered them when we moved. How crazy is that. We wrote a letter to them and tried to talk to them and had no responce. They then sent us to collections. I hate Direct TV and would never have anyone that i know use them. They are an inconsiderate company.
Mu husband and I have the same complaints, worse we were not billed for the said "movies" but when we cancelled we learned that they sent the bill to collection.
I do not know where to complain because I want someone NOT from Directv... I want to contact someone or an organization higher than Directv.

I totally agree. I had the same experience. I had an appoitment for 8:00am to 12:00pm and they showed up at 2:30pm. They told me that I would need some type of pole in order to install my service and they wanted me to pay $75 dollars for it. The worst part of it was that they did not hve the pole in the first place. They wanted to reschedule. The tech just left without saying anything. The Worst customer service ever.
Have had direct tv for 16 days. I am so fed up already that if the cansallation fee wasn't so steep i would do it. Poorest excuse for a rip-off I have ever seen. Customer support would be more sufficient with a athletic supporter
We lost our service about two weeks ago. It took a full week if not more for a service tech to come see us. When they did, we were fully supportive, and actually upgraded and everything. We changed our local channels to Direct TV and took the Dvr, etc. The guy was here in the morning, by nighttime we had no television at all. We call; they tell us they can't get here again for over ten days! So, this "great" company comes over, makes things worse than they were before (because now we have no local channels) and they say sorry, there's nothing we can do: first come, first serve. I mean, imagine any other company saying that: "oops, sorry we didn't fix your car, and in fact made it worse, but there's nothing we can do; you'll have to go to the end of the line and wait, again." How do they stay in business? Aren't they smart (or care) enough to have something set up in case THEY make mistakes? So, my wife and I are in agreement: we're canceling their service completely and going with cable. I can't stand when a company takes your business for granted. Cox cable would have had a tech person out tonight to fix the problem.
My wife ordered Direct TV, The Installer came out, hours late of course, and installed the product. The dish was installed right in front of upstairs tennant's window. Installer claimed it was the only place where he could get a signal. We called Direct TV to have the dish relocated, 16 minutes before you can speak to a live person, we stated our situation and arranged to have someone come out and relocate the dish. It took 9 days for that to happen(again Direct TV installers didn't show up at agreed dates and times). The "area" supervisor finally came out. Claimed he couldn't get a line of sight signal, and didn't have a ladder to reach the roof. So we cancelled and had Direct TV uninstalled. I'm completely dissatisfied with the level of service, the installers were polite but either imcompetent or lazy, and customer service is lacking! Anyone who'd ask me I'd talk them out of dealling with Direct TV!

Moved to a new address, sent installers to wrong address not once but twice! re-schedule? *** no... sorry "we have your credit card on file... you will pay... file a dispute we will respond in 7-21 days... This company stole my money from my checking account. When confronted they promptly began to lie about how long it takes to be refunded my money. They will persist that talking to a supervisor will get you the same results, and almost refuse to allow you to speak with a supervisor. They put you on hold forever, I'm almost certain you are talking to another customer rep and not a supervisor at all.

My 93 year old mother, whom has only an air antennae, had false charge from Direct TV.Left telephone number with Direct TV, as they requested; however, after a week - no rerturn telephone call.
Im talking for two old people that was scam by Direct TV. On Sept 12 called to activated service with promotion. on Sept 19 went to connect service and from there the service was with mistakes. Already charging additional for receivers that didnt told them was additional charge. The plan was totally different from was agree. Installer called and suppossly fixed the problem. When he left was totally out of what agree - different group of channels.. This process went to the next day and tired of looking for a solution .. disconnect next day.. after few day .. this old people was charge almost 400.00 for disconnect .. two days after only and after all the lies from the reps... its increible that these companies are doing this with a lot of people and theres no way to stop them ... this is robbery... specially to indenfend old people that do what ever they hear from rep... This need to stop.. Does any one knows how this can be address... is outrageous... imagine how many 400.00 dolars these companies are taking from people ...
Did not realize I was entering a 2 year contract until after the installation. They tried to charge me more than the advertised price. Installers did not know the digital video recorder should have 2 cables coming in instead of 1. Reported continual loss of signal and they sent someone out who moved the satellite dish but did not fix the problem. 2 more crews came out before the problem was corrected. The installers are contractors who argue with DirectTV right in front of you. One of them asked my daughter for her phone number.
When I moved, the installer did not show up until 10pm, did not know what he was doing, and left around 11:30. DirectTV kept cutting off my service even though I was paying $90 a month. After an hour on the phone they determined that I had changed plans but and they were charging me for the old and the new plan. I asked to be let out of my contract 3 months early. The representative took my information and said someone would call me back. Guess what. You got it, no call.
By far the worst customer service I have experienced in my 55 years.
I wanted to replace my Dish Network service to have an experience with a different company and compare. Direct TV contractors came three times to my house and all three refused to install the antenna in the same place where Dish Network had performed a flawless installation.
Wasted my time and have no excuses since competition had done it before. They just didn't want ot bother to do a non so straight install. If they don't care before you become a customer how will it be once you are already one?
Stay away from them. Cable and no commitments is the way to go.
They are not giving me the price they told me if I cam back to them. Now they are saying I have to send a repate form in to get discount. This was not mentioned when I first signed up. I have to call every month to try to get it at the price they gave me. I am getting tired of them. They have been in a couple of lawsuits already. They need another one. I am sure I am not the only one they are doing this to. Their termination fees are set way to high for anyone to afford to drop them. I need help! I will eventually get rid of them when the 18 month time is over which is next December. They are liars, cheats and more.
There's no quality control. Not only did the installer put in a permanent face plate totally crooked on the inside wall, but the outside wall coverings (where he drilled holes) are not flush and are messily caulked with piles of caulk (which is likely to disintegrate soon).
He left piles of sawdust and debris on the floor and didn't even consider cleaning up after himself. He left furniture moved away from the walls and didn't even consider moving it back.
He gave absolutely no instruction on how to use the equipment. After much frustration, we had to call their customer service and found out one of the remotes is defective and needs to be replaced.
I had a man named Jamie come to my home with at the time sounded like a great promotion. I agreed and signed up with them they told that i was going to get t.v, cable and the Internet for about one hundred and fourteen dollars a month. They came and installed the cable but never came and installed the phone or the Internet. I continued to call them and he Jamie never called me back. So i called the corporate office and they did not know what was going on with it. Now remind you that i would never of accepted this offer if they would not of offered the phone and cable. I have received a bill stating that i owed them 500.oo dollars and they say i signed a 24 month agreement i have the agreement right here with no signature at all. Thank you but i am not paying this bill for services i did not receive.
