Rental record # [protected]. We reserve a large vehicle but our friends got there a day early and rented their own car. We down sized vehicle but we’re not given a less expensive price which I would like to have of course! We got a nail in the tire at some point and called your service center somewhere ever they are. We were over 100 miles from Phoenix with 105’ temperature and were told to drive until tire goes flat and call a tow truck and ride with them. Or put on the spare(donut tire) and drive 100 miles in 105’! Really? I ended up buying a tire guage and small pump to continua filling it on the drive back. We had to curtail our plans for the day and cautiously drive back! It was a terrible experience and would like an adjustment for the charge. Thank you for your assistance. Jeff Meikle
Desired outcome: Adjustment of bill from full size to medium size. Thank you and I realize that things happen but this issue really concerned us driving over 100 miles on a tire that was loosing air the whole way back!
Terrible Experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car: Shady Business Practices and Unethical Charges
I recently had a terrible experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car, specifically at the Portland airport location. I strongly advise against renting a car from them and suggest you RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Their business practices are shady and unethical. In fact, they are the worst rental car company I have ever dealt with in my entire life!
To give you an idea of how bad it was, I had a minor accident that damaged the bumper of the car I rented from them. When they sent me the repair charges, I was shocked to see that they charged me astronomical fees for loss of use. The vehicle was in the shop for only 6 hours, yet they charged me hundreds of dollars for days of repairs. When I contacted my insurance company, they refused to pay, stating that it was a scam.
When I raised the issue with Dollar Rent-A-Car, they were unprofessional and unworkable. They refused to compromise and made demands that were not in the contract. In fact, they threatened to send me to collections if I didn't pay the unsubstantiated loss of use charges. It was a nightmare dealing with them!
I strongly advise you to go to any other rental car company. Dollar Rent-A-Car is terrible! They operate a shady, fraudulent scheme where they scam customers for unsubstantiated loss of use charges. I cannot thoroughly express how horrible my experience has been. They are the absolute worst!
In conclusion, DO NOT RENT A CAR FROM DOLLAR CAR RENTAL EVER! You will regret it if you do.
Dollar Rent-A-Car: Beware of Hidden Fees and Charges!
So, I had a really bad flight from London to Orlando. It was like 11.5 hours long and I was so tired and jet lagged when I got to the Dollar Rent-A-Car desk. They asked me if I wanted to return the car empty and they would lock in the price of $4.50 per gallon. I was so tired that I just agreed and signed without really thinking about it. I mean, the gas station price was only $3.50 something, but I figured it was just a mistake and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it.
But then, when I got back home and checked my credit card bill, I saw that I had been charged $224.75 for something called 'Premium Road Service'. I don't even know what that is! And they didn't even ask me if I wanted it. If they had, I would have said no way! So, in total, I ended up paying $360.80 extra for my rental car. That's just crazy!
I know my signature is on the contract and everything, but come on! After almost 12 hours on a plane, who has the energy to read all the small print? And I never would have thought that a big company like Dollar would try to rip people off like that.
I doubt I'll be able to get a refund, but I just want to warn everyone out there who's thinking about renting from Dollar. They'll try to con you, so be careful and read everything before you sign!
Terrible Experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car: Stranded, Fraudulent Charges, and No Help from Customer Service
Dollar Rent-A-Car is not the best choice for renting a car. I had a really bad experience with them when I needed emergency roadside assistance at 11pm one night. I called and called and called again to get through to someone, but I couldn't get any help. I was calling their "24/7" emergency assistance line for hours, but no one answered. I was totally stranded in a dangerous part of town and I had to contact the police for help. Dollar never answered my calls, which was really disappointing.
After this terrible experience, I returned home and found out that they had charged my card twice. I was really upset and called them to discuss it. However, they said they had no recollection of any of those transactions. I spent hours on the phone with them, but they refused to cooperate with me about the fraudulent charges or being stranded. They even said they had no record of my rental in Texas, but I was never in Texas! This situation was really dishonest and stressful.
I strongly advise you to avoid renting a car from Dollar Rent-A-Car. There are other great companies out there that you can rent a car from. This experience was dangerous, expensive, stressful, and dishonest. Don't choose this company!
Dollar Rent-A-Car Review: Sold Out of Cars, No Customer Service, Saved by Hertz Employee
Yo, I gotta tell ya about my experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car. So, we booked our ride in advance through Orbitz and even called the desk in Calgary to let them know our flight was cancelled and we'd be arriving later. They said it was all good, but when we got there, they were sold out of cars! Hertz and Thrifty were too, since they're all managed by the same peeps. We weren't the only ones in this boat either, there were three groups from our flight in the same situation.
So, we talked to the manager, Janniny, and she said there was nothing she could do and we'd have to come back the next day. But, we had a hotel booked in Banff, which is over an hour and a half away! Janniny didn't seem to care though, she just shrugged us off.
But, then this dude Frank Gonzalves from Hertz stepped up and saved the day! He was all about customer service and even offered to drive us to Banff himself! That's a three hour round trip, man! He totally deserves a 10/10 for being a boss.
But, as for Dollar Rent-A-Car and Janniny, they get a big fat 0/10. Don't waste your time with them, go with someone who actually cares about their customers.
Terrible Experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car and Discover Cars.com: No Car Available Despite Prepaid Reservation
I recently had a terrible experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car. I had booked a car through Discover Cars.com and prepaid for it. However, when I went to pick up the car, I was told that there were no cars available. I was shocked and frustrated, as I had already paid for the car and was left stranded with my wife and child in a foreign country.
I tried calling Discover Cars.com for over two hours, but they were of no help. They told me that I could book another car and file a claim, but they had no other solution. I was surprised to see that cars were available on their website, but they claimed that they had no cars available. I was left feeling helpless and frustrated.
I also tried calling Dollar Car Rental, but their customer service was terrible. They were not able to help me and could only assist in new bookings. When I asked them to call the location, they refused and told me that I had to call them myself. When I tried calling the Dollar Fort Lauderdale Airport location, they never answered the phone. I was left stranded with no help from either company.
This experience was completely unacceptable. As a car rental company, Dollar Rent-A-Car should have had a car ready for me. I understand that mistakes can happen, but their lack of customer service was appalling. I would not recommend using Dollar Rent-A-Car or Discover Cars.com based on my experience.
If you are planning to rent a car, I suggest looking for a more reliable company. It is important to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. I hope that my experience can help others avoid a similar situation.
My reservation number was Booking DC-*** and I would not recommend using either Dollar Rent-A-Car or Discover Cars.com.
Dollar Rent-A-Car Scam: Beware of Hidden Charges and Fraudulent Practices
So, I gotta say, I had a pretty rough experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car. I know I'm not the only one, 'cause I've read some other reviews that sound pretty similar to my situation. Basically, there's some kind of scam going on within their system, and it's pretty hard to believe at first. But once you start playing their stupid game, you realize that something fishy is going on.
Here's what happened to me: I specifically told the customer representative that I didn't want any extras or insurance. They said they understood and everything was good to go. But then, when it came time to sign the paperwork, there was this tiny little blank screen that they told me to sign. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but later I found out that they had charged me for additional insurance - which added a whopping 50% increase to my total bill!
When I complained about this, they basically told me tough luck - "you signed for it." But there was no confusion about what had happened. I wasn't the only one there to hear what the customer representative had said, and I had witnesses to back me up. It was pretty clear that this was fraud and a scam, and it seems like it's happened to a lot of other people too.
Now, I'm not one to back down when I feel like I've been robbed. So I'm using every platform I can to make my voice heard. But I'm also wondering if there's anything else I can do. Can I press charges against the customer representative who started this whole mess? I don't know, but I'm definitely going to look into it.
Dollar Rent-A-Car: A Nightmare Experience at Chicago Midway Location - Fraudulent Charges and No Refund
I gotta say, I had a pretty bad experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car. I mean, I'm not even sure one star is enough to express how I feel. I had reserved a car over a week in advance, but when I got there, they had this new girl named Candy doing my transaction all by herself. Poor thing looked like she had no idea what she was doing. And sure enough, something went wrong. They swiped my card four times and claimed it was declined. But I had just been paid that morning, so there was no way it could have been declined. Lo and behold, they took the money out of my account four times! The fifth time, my account was fraud-ed and the transaction was declined. This all went down on Friday at noon, and it's now Monday and I still haven't gotten any of my money back. No car rental, no trip, and I lost money on hotels I had reserved. It's just ridiculous.
And get this: they told me I have to wait five to seven business days for the refund to process before I can even start my claim with my bank. But my bank contacted them with an auth number showing that they processed the bogus money scam, and they still wouldn't refund me. Now I have to wait another seven to ten business days to see my money. They charged me $401.00 four times! It's just insane. And the worst part is, they didn't even seem to care that this happened. They didn't offer me any deals or anything to make up for their mistake. It's like they just didn't care at all.
I'm telling you, do not use this company. I reported them to the BBB because this is just straight-up fraud. How can they hold my money on a rental I never even got? This all went down at the Chicago Midway location, so watch out if you're ever there. Just save yourself the trouble and go with a different rental car company.
Terrible Customer Service and False Fees: My Experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car
I had a really bad experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car. I rented a car in LA and they told me to just go pick one from "Lot 3". I walked around and did my assessment. But they don't require anything back. I left. I brought the car back a few days later. Clean and full of gas. The guy who I returned it to did not look at it then. He just told me to leave the keys in it and I could leave.
The day after I got home I looked at my credit card balance and noticed that my $53 rental was now $453! I checked email and nothing from Dollar. No phone call either. So I called their customer support and was told they "smelled ashes" and therefore I was charged $400 for smoking in the car. I DON'T SMOKE, I never have. But with all my pleading to try and tell them that there was no way this could have happened, they just assumed I was lying and said there was nothing they could do for me.
I asked to talk to a supervisor and was told that "none were available". This is either "standard practice", a way to scam people, or their check-in system is flawed. There was no way I could defend myself since this "audit" on the car was done AFTER I left. I'm in the process of disputing this thru my credit card company. I am having to try and "prove" that I am not a smoker, so next stop is my doctor. This is ridiculous to have to go thru this, and I wonder how many other people are being charged false "fees" without the ability to dispute any of them.
I strongly advise against renting from Dollar Rent-A-Car. Their customer service is terrible and they charge false fees. I am very disappointed with their service and will never rent from them again.
Fraudulent Charges and Poor Customer Service: My Experience with Dollar Rent-A-Car
I recently rented a car from Dollar Rent-A-Car for a one-way trip from Orlando airport to Tampa airport. I was told that the rental would cost $69, but when I returned the car, I was charged $369 plus an additional $400 hold on my account. I was confused and frustrated by this sudden increase in price.
When I picked up the car at around 8:30 pm, I drove it for an hour and a half to Tampa. When I returned the car at 10 pm, there was no one there to help me finalize the rental. I simply left the keys in the car and went on my way.
The next morning at 6:30 am, I received an email stating that the final charges were $69 and that they would refund the $200 hold on my account. However, just four hours later, I received another email stating that I was being charged $369 for damage to the vehicle. They also put another $300 and $100 hold on my account. When I called customer service, I was told that the charge was for smoking in the car. However, I don't smoke, so I was confused and upset.
I called customer service three times, but each time I was sent to a call center outside of the US. They refused to help me with my issue and wouldn't give me a direct number to the Tampa location so I could clear this up. I felt like I was being treated rudely and disregarded with no way of resolving the issue.
This experience has caused me financial hardship and complete inconvenience due to fraudulent charges by Dollar Rent-A-Car. The fact that there is no way to talk to somebody at the Tampa location is horrible. There is nowhere to go with these claims. I hope that others will read my review and be aware of the potential issues with this company.
Dollar Rent-A-Car's Deceptive Practices: Hidden Fees for Toll Charges and Admin Fees
I gotta say, I was pretty disappointed with my experience renting from Dollar Rent-A-Car. My family and I rented an SUV in one state and planned to return it in another, which we knew would cost extra. But what we didn't know was that we'd be hit with a bunch of hidden fees for toll charges.
The folks at the counter went over everything with us except for the toll charges and admin fees. We were driving on toll roads and had no idea that we'd be charged $15 for every toll we went through, with a max fee of $120. When we got our bill, we were shocked to see that we'd been charged $49 in tolls and $120 in fees on top of the already steep rental price.
When I called their customer service line to dispute the charges, the person on the other end told me that I should have read the fine print before accepting the vehicle. I agreed with her, but my argument was that I was tired from a long flight and just wanted to get on the road. I was hoping that Dollar would have my back and look out for their customers, but it seems like they're more interested in making a quick buck.
After doing some research online, I found that I'm not the only one who's been scammed by Dollar Rent-A-Car. They've been accused of deceptive practices and ripping off customers left and right. They did eventually cut my charges in half to $60, but it still feels like a scam to me.
If I had known about the toll charges and admin fees upfront, I would have gladly paid for the toll insurance. But since the toll roads I was on only accepted pay-by-plate, I had no choice but to go through the tolls and get hit with the fees.
I won't be renting from Dollar/Thrifty/Hertz (they're all the same company) again until they stop their shady practices. I also wrote to AAA, who we booked through, to let them know about the scam and how it's affecting their reputation. It's just not right to treat customers this way.
Rental repairs
I rented from them in February 2023. I parked in a parking garage and there was column to the left rear of the car. I forgot about it and when I backed out I looked left and right and then at the backup camera as it was a garage and not a busy street. The column was perfectly in my blind spot and I turned too quickly and scraped and dented the door. The...

My husband and I arrived in Boston on 5/25/23 at 2:30 pm with a reservation for Dollar RAC. We waited in line for an hour at the airport and were told by the agent we were at the wrong address. I was not aware. Usually when you rent a car it is out of the airport.
We arrived at the front of the line approximately 3:30 and was told we had to go to the other location in Boston (3 Columbus Ave). We then had to take an Uber ($40) to the other location. When we arrived at the other location it was after 4:00 pm. That location closed at 3:30!
I contacted Dollar 800# again to complain why would that airport agent knowingly send us to the other location when he knew it was closed. He should have accommodated us. This was such a huge burden on both of us never being in Boston. The airport agent should have known better not to send us to the other location knowing it was closed.
lucky for us there is a Hertz RAC next to Dollar which was still open. Seeing as we did not have a reservation at Hertz they charged us 3x the amount we would have paid for Dollar. Hertz charged us $141.50/day plus taxes, fees.
This is unacceptable for Dollar to send us and not accomodate us at the airport.
Desired outcome: I need Dollar to refund the difference of what I was charged and what Hertz charged. I will provide all of the documentation upon request. $141.50 x 5 = $707.50 minus Dollar charge ($347.56) = $359.94
Dollar rent a car rental record # [protected]
On May 10, 2023, I rented a car from Economy Car Rental for my business trip. I picked up the car from Atlanta Internat'l Airport after my flight from Dollar car rental at 11:30 pm.
Once I was given the car, I immediately noticed something that looked like a pitchfork on the dash. Just getting off the flight I was confused as to what it was. Drove the car to my destination for the night. Early the next morning I noticed it was a warning. The dashboard showed the tire had 19 pounds in it. Rushing to my destination I was unfamiliar with gas stations in that area with all the traffic. I drove the car and parked it. unable to get air. I rode with another person for fear of the tire going flat or being involved in an accident. I put air in the tire on Friday. Saturday evening the same thing happen only the tire went down to 15 pounds. I added more air to the tire on Sunday to take it back. Fearing for my safety I was unable to continue my trip. Asking others to drive me. Monday, May 15, 2023, I called customer service and was told to return it to the airport. I picked up another Malibu and drove about 20 miles and this car shook violently (unsafe) front end. I turned around, took it back, and was given another car (Nissan) that I returned on Friday, May 19, 2023
Desired outcome: I don't feel I should have been given an unsafe car at 11:30 at night and paid to add air to the tire in unfamiliar areas. This incident ruined my trip. Please refund my money. Cars were also unsafe for my passengers.
Car rental charges and service
I prepaid on line for my father's rental car. On March 5th 2023 he stood in line for over an hour to pick it up. Once at the counter he was hit with many questions. Being tired AND very hard of hearing he walked away with additional charges adding up to another $800. MOST of these charges he did not need.
Then the car was not brought to him. He had to walk more and was told any car after the orange cones.
Desired outcome: Some refund
Made reservation in error
I mistakenly booked a car rental. I did not know that I completed transaction until I saw my PayPal account. They say my money is unrefundable! I did not rent the car! The reservation was made for March 13th to the 18. My name is Denise Waner.

Desired outcome: Return my money.
Rental car insurance
On 12/13/2023, I went to the airport in Los Angeles with a fully pre-paid rental voucher which also included full insurance. The voucher stated clearly that everything was pre-paid for and that there was zero to pay upon arrival.
The salesperson asked me if I wanted extra insurance to which I responded I did not need any as I had paid for it with my reservation I and showed him the voucher. He then asked me if I wanted to opt for the prepaid fuel charges to which I said no. He then tried to distract me by telling me that I had ordered a small car but that I would need a larger car for the Californian freeways. I told him that I did not want an upgrade.
He told me there were no small cars left and sent his colleague to the parking lot to see what was available. His colleague came back saying there were no small cars left so he’d give me a larger car free of charge reminding me of what a good deal I had.
There was a huge line of people and he was clearly trying to distract me in any way possible so I told him again: I do not want to pay for a bigger car, I don’t want extra fuel options and I don’t want extra insurance.
He then agreed that he understood my request and asked me to sign “the contract” on the small digital pad. I asked him once again to confirm that there were no extra charges to which he agreed. The pad was so small, it was absolutely impossible to read the entire contract yet eventually he had me sign for extra insurance anyways and my credit card was charged $1298.65 for insurance I numerously stated I did not need.
I called the number of their local office on 03.02.2023 but the main customer service operator wouldn’t transfer me nor help me with the matter and told me I would receive a mail within 7 days about the issue. We are 10 days later and I still have not received a response. I tried to contact them via their website to eventually receive an error message as soon as I chose Belgium as my country of residence. They are impossible to get a hold of.
Desired outcome: no response

Customer service/concierge
I am really unhappy that I have to go to this extent because I have rented with Hertz/Dollar Rental in the past, HOWEVER, today was unbelievable. There were 2 women at the counter and I would hope that I went to the one that was not having such a great day and this is not her usual demeanor. I know the procedure with prior purchases when using a debit card...
Read full review of Dollar Rent A CarCar rental reservations
Dollar car rental fails to disclose that a rental car reservation does not lock in a rental car for the requested pick-up time. The manager's special where low-rate economy class cars are advertised without informing customers the car availability is on a first come first serve basis. The current reservation process issues a car rental confirmation for cars they do not have or do not track resulting in 1-2 hours of waiting. This wait time is in addition to the 1-1/2 hour wait at the rental desk where a staff of two assist customers that numbers in the 20-30s in line. A tactic of short staffing the front desk to slow down the line at the rental car pick up. It's like a bait and switch tactic to offer low rental rates with a confirmation number for the selected pick-up time then informing the customer there is no cars available and to wait for one. Dollar has an inadequate system, poor leadership and predatory practices.
Desired outcome: refund
Overcharged for rental car
Date of rental 12/7/22 thru 12/12/22. Rented through a third party (hopper) and paid $89.23 for all days! good deal, that is what I thought until I arrived to pick up the rental.
On 12/7/2022, I arrived at luiz airport in san juan. Puerto rico, caught a shuttle (provided by dollar rental) from the airport to dollar rental. Provided the necessary documents as well as insurance information. I was told if I used my own insurance then it would be $1000 because my personal car insurance does not have enough deductible to cover accidental, but if I use theirs then it would be $200. After arguing with the agent for a few minutes, I agreed to get his in which he stated it would just be a hold in case anything happened to the car and it will be returned upon returning the car. Well, nothing happened to the car upon returning it and I fill it up with gas so there should not have been a problem. They were supposed to email the receipt they did not. I received my statement to see that I was charged $296.43. I agree to a couple of tolls but not $200 worth-nooo way! I didn't even drive 500 miles so please explain to me why they charged me that amount. Also, they upgraded my car due to not having any other cars available, he stated at no charge. I never had such a bad worn-out-of-dateed car from a rental agency. It was banged up and needed an alignment, rode terribly but I was grateful to get a car. (see photos).
Desired outcome: RETURN MY DEPOSIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.PHOTO'S AVAILABLEGPS TRACKING AVAILABLE FOR TOLLS NO ACCIDENTS/NO DENTS
