DuckDuckGo strict safety search issues

When searching for images, I do my very best to keep the search key words as neutral as possible, and set the safety to strict - yet I still get inappropriate content at times, which really ticks. Me. Off. Especially knowing that some parents use strict safety searches for their kids, and said kids still stumbling on content they shouldn't be seeing anyway.

This has happened several times since I began using DuckDuckGo a few months ago. They need to be stricter over the image results, maybe have a living person (not another robot) review them to make sure they fit the strict safety search result requirements in case the algorithm missed something.

Seriously, though, I shouldn't be finding inappropriate images when researching a 100% clean video game like popular kid-friendly Nintendo games, or dresses from the Renaissance, as another complaint mentioned!

DuckDuckGo usps change of address

when searching for USPS change of address the top listing is Postaddresschanges.com

this site mimics the USPS address change site and charges $39.95 for the service the Postal service charges $1.05 for.

When I called the number listed at the bottom of their site to cancel...I was told they have no record of me.

They have, how ever dinged my credit card for $39.95

Clearly this is. a scam site

There have been porn attacks whilst using DDG. I don't think DDG is unsafe, but the filth has a way of shoving its way into a phone or notebook -- sabotage? "delvers"? Or hacking come from the vicious?

DuckDuckGo image search

I searched for Dakoka glass marks and got a bunch of hard core porno in the images.

The address is above. I don't understand why I need to add all this typing in order to get you to look at it. Just trying to help you make the internet safe and I have to jump through hoops to get you to read my complaint.

The next time I see porno on your site I guess I'll just report it to the authorities.

DuckDuckGo browser from play store

I just installed the browser and was testing it when i ran across the webRTC vunerabilty. The browser allows internal ip address gathering or real ip if using a vpn. in firefox it can be turned off with about:config/media.peerconnection.enabled/false but do not know how to set those type of options with your browser.

It might be worth mentioning it was only ip4 and not ip6 with duck where as firefox was giving up both internal addresses

A fairly serious breach for those of us trying to get some measure of online privacy.

DuckDuckGo strict search

I was searching for Renaissance fair clothing on strict search. Although the first 20 images were mostly a mixture of beautiful time period dresses and simple bar maid outfits from the time, the further down I scrolled, the more I got images of women in their underwear and bras. Not like for a bra commercial or catalog. I am talking about women in sexual poses very indiscreetly wearing modern clothing never to be seen on Renaissance fairs or during that time period. In short, it is soft porn. I have no interest in seeing this lewdness or nudity and neither does my husband, who finds it very offensive. Please work harder to make your strict search effective. If I had a teenager or younger I would have to ban them from the internet completely until I could find a strict search for them that actually worked. That is really a shame because teenagers need to understand the internet in order to apply to jobs and complete school assignments.

DuckDuckGo forced searches

when I type a web address into the address bar at the top of my browser, DDG does a search for it.

That's not what I want. I just want to go straight to the website, presuming I have not made a typo.

DDG is co-opting my website address input and forcing me to accept it as the basis of a gratuitous and unneeded search.

I'm glad I found this Complaints Board, because now that I've written a few words about it, I am realizing that I am not just merely annoyed about this.

DuckDuckGo firefox

Dear Duck Duck Go,

When I click to 'Add Duck Duck Go to Firefox' (screengrab attached). I get the message 'The Add-on could not be downloaded because of a connection failure' (screengrab also attached) but there is absolutely no connection failure. I have tried over and over again and adjusting Firefox preferences but am presuming this is something that Firefox have as part of their running software to prevent Duck Duck installation. Have you come across this before and if so, do you know an easy way to circumvent? Many thanks, Dan

DuckDuckGo white couple pictures vs black couple pictures

hi DDG,
I've recently become a follower - so i'm very excited about the privacy that you punt.

that said - i was searching bot hin google and DDG search engines for "white couple pictures", and i got a whole lot of mixed couple pictures! Despite having virtually the same picture results, it was a lot of Mixed couples - NOT WHITE.
I'm perplexed.

i then did the same search of "black couple pictures" and wow there were alot of black couples!

I can't see how your search engine can not differentiate between white, black and mixed results . This is crazy - all we want is truth and transparency and no agenda... yet we seem to run into this everywhere - even at DDG.

If i want to search for dogs - the result should be dogs
the same is for horses, cats, people, houses, cars, fish, bricks, stapler, screen, etc.
why cant we find white couples. suurly your IT geniuses can write an algorithm that can search or identify markers on pictures that can select and identify white couples? surely?

anyway - thanks for the privacy - im loving that!

regards
Isaias

DuckDuckGo search engine

I don't want to describe this as a complaint about what is otherwise a great search engine and a necessary replacement for the corrupt and monopolized activity of corporate social media that functions very similarly to mainstream corporate television networks.

With that said. . Why is DuckDuckGo using Wikipedia as it's go to for instant answers? Isn't that what we're trying to leave behind? Wikipedia promotes every mainstream brand of propaganda and BS pushed by corporate interests and bad government. Has DDG knuckled under to arm twisting also?

This post is presented with the following perspective:

In a world of corruption, there are no conspiracies. Corruption exists wherever disclosure can be managed. Normalization is the process by which we are made unaware though we find it all around us. We cannot acknowledge what we cannot accept when we remain cuckolded or "cucked" to the point that we cannot stand upon our own two feet and recognize anything for ourselves. In it's place, we may fall for every kind of hysteria that can be generated.

Ultimately, ideologies are not necessary as a handicap for taking on one's own perspective and being willing to think for oneself, without labels or justification of half the population in support and the other half against, as the hated and reviled. The only hate filled people left today are the accusers, while all else question now who are what they should be a part of, if not the "other side". I have nothing against the other side. I only say that you are your own first authority, to return to that self focus that you were originally given as your divine nature inherent even before religion was instilled in you in some cases. Your first inclination as a child was to integrate with your surroundings. It is only after sufficient distraction and disruptive example that you can be removed from self focus and doubt yourself and your intentions. Only through distraction can the illusion of guilt be inserted as a part of your awareness.

Once divided within, only then can you be divided from another in disagreement, compulsion and conflict. . sourced through guilt and division that originates within while accepting outside sources for interpretation and no longer trusting that center within where true understanding takes place. When self becomes new-age, it becomes another religion. Recognize yourself without labels or expectations. Know who you are from the beginning, for self focus never leaves you, though you may be distracted for a lifetime.

DuckDuckGo privacy

I was interested whether an organization or business could track my search on DuckDuckGo. I did a search only on DuckDuckGo for guitar lessons and when I go to MSN news, there's an ad for guitar lessons. How did MSN know that I was looking for guitar lessons on DuckDuckGo?! The company states that my privacy is paramount and yet, apparently, other corporations have access to my searches. Why?

The reason is probably not what you want to hear:

While nobody really knows the specific details, it's been speculated by a lot of people that YouTube only became profitable within the last year or two, and before then had been run at a pretty substantial loss for well over a decade. Before hitting profitability, it's thought that Google simply kept it running because it was valuable to them for a lot of other reasons (audience engagement and the fact that it was basically the only thing remotely close to a "social network" that they had ever been able to keep from being a complete dumpster fire)

Video streaming is expensive and difficult, even for services with comparatively small libraries like Netflix, Hulu, or even the MUCH more limited-in-scope Float Plane. It requires a lot of server overhead, storage, and bandwidth just to host and serve the videos on demand. But on top of that, you also have to deal with encoding everything that gets uploaded several times over. Whenever you go to youtube and you choose which resolution you want, each of those resolutions is actually a separate video file that YouTube has to encode, store, and be ready to switch to as the user's internet connection or your own bandwidth usage changes. This is all on top of all of the normal issues with user account management, comments, security, etc...

The biggest hurdle preventing DuckDuckGo from doing this, though, is simply that they don't have the advertising revenue stream to do it. If they created a service like this, it would pretty much need to be a subscription service by simple necessity. Google has only barely been able to turn YouTube profitable very recently, and they were only able to do it with all of the shady things that they have been doing to track users on and off the site and appeasing their real customers: corporate advertisers. DuckDuckGo simply does not have access to the same kinds of ad revenue, and their entire organization is founded on the idea of NOT doing all of the privacy-invading things that the other big tech companies are doing.

If you want a new video service to compete with YouTube, I think we need to look to decentralized computing for the answer. The tech isn't quite there, yet, but it will be soon, especially as gigabit become more and more available. Once we have universal gigabit upload speeds, I think that having distributed, mesh video services will start to become a real possibility. Something that uses protocols or basic ideas behind torrents and blockchain to share the burden of hosting and processing video files between all users is something that I think will happen. The most likely model would probably be to offer users a choice between paying a subscription fee to view and/ or upload new videos, or running a distributed host program and allocate a certain amount of storage space on their machine to help support the network when the PC is idling.

There would be users who do not want to let their computers act as video hosts because they are worried about security concerns, wear on their hardware, because they don't like leaving their computers running when they are away, or simply because they don't have a PC at all or that is fast enough to meet minimum spec (or they don't have enough bandwidth to do so without making their whole home network slow to a crawl). For these people, they could pay a subscription, which would add value to the network that could then be used to incentivize other people to host multiple servers to create a secondary revenue stream for themselves. It's basically the Etherium model, but for video hosting. The only nuts that really need to be cracked are distributed file hosting and figuring out the latency problems with distributed computing/ blockchain in general. But these are solvable problems and there's a lot of people working on them right now, which makes me think this is where the next big disruptive revolution is going to come from. Not from digital money, but from the fact that this could possibly make the current centralized internet service model totally irrelevant.

Besides, if DuckDuckGo started their own video hosting service, they would just eventually have the same problems that Google does now. Governments and companies would start targeting them for censorship. Whether it's to protect their IP's, so stifle political dissidents, or bury negative product reviews, having this kind of powerful communication tool run by any one group will always make it a huge target. This is why you want these things totally distributed. Try as hard as they could, media companies and governments could not shut down bit torrent, and that's because it's a distributed protocol with no central place it can be shut down from. That's what we need for ALL of our internet services if we ever want to truly break free from corporate and government censorship.

DuckDuckGo privacy matter

Do I need to turn off or in some way disable Google while using duckduckgo search eng? It seems that some of my searches are getting into Google system as I've been seeing ads by Google about the items or services I've researched. Either that or your service is lieng and the info is coming from duckduckgo. I need and still use Google to get in touch with certain people and web sites as in some cases Google does what I wish to do and duckduckgo is not as effective. Also if Reddit is as involved with this service as I believe it to be I may be quitting duckduckgo and having my friends that have begun using it to guit as well. Redditt is a very shifty and untrustworthy company and doing anything involving them ends up being sold to highest bidder. Sorry but I'm not for sale.
If you could answer my query about Google I would be grafeful. Thanx

There are many ways Google could have gotten that information. Off the top of my head: 1. You're using Chrome, 2. Google Analytics (tracking scripts on the sites you visit), 3. Using an Android phone, 4. using Gmail (they build an advertising profile on you based on emails you receive). There's nothing DuckDuckGo can do to prevent any of those. Not sure why you think Reddit has anything to do with DuckDuckGo.

I took your survey for the free product. Noted the flashlight that I wanted. Entered all my cr. card info, and it flashed "Error" and said that my cr. card was rejected. DuckDuckGo your no tracking policy

DuckDuckGo no tracking high privacy policy may be highly useful for darknet people or to do a large number of scams that are possible. The internet server your are providing could be a hub of darknet and malware thus ensuring easy transactions and say every thing bad you can say about. So as you say even you or anyone in the world can access it, it is easy for dark people to do their dirty work, except if some hackers can do something, so I ask how is this going to help the world other than a bit "privacy" feeling

DuckDuckGo privacy essentials won't run on firefox

Firefox has disabled Privacy Essentials as of today They say: Starting in Firefox version 57, only extensions built using WebExtensions APIs will work. Not sure if your add-ons are affected? See Firefox add-on technology is modernizing and these Frequently Asked Questions for details. They think this when your program is actually doing the opposite. Now I have to suffer slowdowns and ads again! Add-ons that can change your browser's settings without your consent or steal your information have become increasingly common. Some add-ons can add unwanted toolbars or buttons, change your search settings or inject ads into your computer. Firefox does now verify that the add-ons you install have been signed by Mozilla, digitally. This article explains the add-on signing feature and how it works.

I am angry and so are a lot of Firefox users as they disabled this as of today. Would you please try to work this out with them so we can use it again? Thanks!

Yes, Firefox has disabled DDGPE add-on. This is a pain for me as well. Can you give an ETA on a new version that will be allowed by Firefox? This add-on was great for everything I needed. Also can you add a free VPN option to the new version. If it had a VPN option, I am unaware of it. Thanks.

Agreed! Ticked Me off to no end as well, .. I love that DDGPE was allowing Me to do. I suspect, .. Firefox [now no longer about the People as much as big money interests, . and thereby COMPROMISED], . Edge, [Microsoft, . We already know! their connections to certain Globalist agendas]... because it doesn't allow it to work, . even though it allows it to install, . and WILL NOT allow DuckDuckGo to be Default Search Engine. [[censored]], ...

I therefore likewise suspect, ... much if not ALL of the complaints I just red above, . "stealing money from My account", ... "Fake Charges"... "can't get rid of it, beware"... are ALL FF Operations to discredit with intent to destroy, .. a Search Engine and Privacy tools, .. that REALLY ARE operating "For the People", . and INDIVIDUAL PRIVACY!, .. and NOT! the Globalist Pigs, Fat Stacks.

DDG!, ... YOU NEED TO DESIGN YOUR OWN BROWSER SO THEY CAN NO LONGER DISABLE YOU, .. And so Individual Privacy, . ONCE AGAIN!, .. belongs to the Individual!
