disintegrated sole
I purchased a pair of Ecco walking shoes in Thailand approximately two years ago but have not worn them that much, the uppers are still in very good condition. However, the rubber on the soles has disintegrated to the point where it's impossible to wear them. As I spent approximately £100 on them I feel the soles should not have perished. Is there anything I can do to get either a replacement pair or a credit note?

ecco shoes soles disintegrating
I bought Ecco Track II Gore-tex hiking shoes many years ago. They were great shoes but I only used them several times and left them in the box in my closet. A few weeks ago I ran across them again cleaning my closet and I thought I would try them on again. The leather was practically in mint condition and looked great but the soles were litertally almost melted and sticky. I thought it was really strange since the shoes were kept in a cool and dry place. But after reading the forums, I can see this is a common problem. Some people have even said that the soles wear out if not in use. I took the shoes to a cobbler and they said nothing can be done to repair them. They've said they have never seen such a thing happen. It's a shame because I own two other pairs of Ecco shoes with no problems. I guess this issue may be specific to their track series line of shoes. I will definitely be looking for another brand of shoes next time I shop for hiking shoes.

After a few years, my Ecco Track gore tex boot sole is coming off in chunks and turning to powder.
fell apart after a few wears
I bought a pair of Ecco boots and after wearing them only a few times the soles completely disintegrated. I thought there must be a fault so sent an e mail with supporting photos to the manufacturer, but having read of so many people having a similar experience and being ignored by Ecco I am no longer expecting a reply. Perhaps all those of us who have had problems with Ecco should contact the trade standards authority. These are certainly not cheap boots and shoes. I have had far better wear from much cheaper boots from Cotton Traders and Millets. As you can see by the photos, although the soles have had it the uppers are in little used condition.
My husband's ECCO Soles on both of his shoes are disentagrating on the heel. The leather upper looks great but the rubber is awful! It's embarrassing! The number on the shoe tongue is [protected]. We have never seen anything like it! I will tell you this much, ECCO used to be his favorite go to shoe, not any more! Back to buying Rockport or anything but this terribly made shoe. We need a brand that we can rely on and ECCO is not it.
My husband's sole on his ECCO shoe's are disentagrating. The leather upper is in excellent condition but both soles are so bad we have to throw away perfectly good shoes. They should have to recall all the shoes with this type of faulty sole. These are not Cheap Shoes!
disintegrating soles
Like many people writing reviews of ECCO shoes, I have been a fan of theirs for 20 years, if not more. Sorry to say that in the last few years, I have experienced quality issues with ECCO, primarily with the sole and occasionally, fit. My experience has not been as dramatic as some here, where the sole suddenly disintegrates or performs a disappearing act in the closet after one month of wear. Rather, I noticed that within six months of purchase the soles of my shoes and boots showed grey-black dots, about the size of a pencil eraser. At first I thought I had stepped in something inky, but upon closer examination I realized that the dots were actually holes in the sole, disintegrating from within. The dark spot was merely the outside skin of the sole had not (yet) disintegrated. Of course that inevitably wore off or fell off, and I was left with two pairs of boots and two pairs of Track II shoes in various stages of sole disintegration. I should say that not all of my shoes were in equal disrepair. One just had a few "dots". But the boots were a disaster. Moreover, I also noticed that the seam between the sole and shoe had started to crack and come apart on one of the Track II shoes -- alarming. I had several pairs repaired via the mail in service (Nushoe) but those soles wear out as any other type of sole, so I felt that I had not enjoyed the durability that ECCO once promised, in exchange for premium pricing. I am very hesitant now about purchasing ECCO, and feel disappointed that I must say that.
shoe soles disintegrating
I have owned over a dozen pair of ECCO shoes over the last decade, and now a 4th pair has disintegrating soles. The current ones are about 2 years old, and hardly worn. I sent the other three pair back to ECCO in mailing bags they supplied, and they sent me vouchers to use on their website. I ordered replacements - no problems yet with those. I have been a loyal ECCO customer, and they have backed up their product, but 4 pair ?

Same here exact same story. And the Ecco distributor in the Nethelaralnds told me to take a hike. ( which is pretty impossible without soles on yor ecco shoes!
I, too, have had a problem with the soles on my Ecco Shaker shoes. I wore them to a job interview. There were sever candidates waiting outside the interviewer's office. I was the last interview. The interviewer came out and asked me what that wal all over the floor. I told him I had noticed something earlier, but thought it was something from the woman who had sat there before me, or that something was falling off the bottom of the chair. I left the interview, and didn't think anything about it. The next day I was outside walking down some concrete stairs when I noticed some black stuff on the ground. I walked a bit further and it seemed that I was walking on something hard. I checked the bottom of my shoe and there was a pebble stuck in the sole of my shoe, and the whole bottom of my shoe was missing. That black stuff was the sole of my shoe that had flaked off. Needless to say I never was called back by that interviewer.
defective shoes
Soles of the shoes have disintegrated for no reason. On checking at the internet I found that this is a common complaint about this product.
I have shown the product to the Concept Store. They accept the product is defective, but are not willing to do much. I am requesting full refund.
soles fall apart
The soles on my Ecco shoes just started falling off in sticky chunks and pieces. These shoes have had very very little wear and now they are useless. They have the black soles and are made in Portugal. The model is [protected]. I thought I had purchased a quality pair of ecco shoes but I was wrong. From all the posts here on problems with ecco shoes, it appears that I am just another victim of a shoddy product.
I will never again buy ecco brand shoes.
soles disentergrating

great uppers rotting soles
I bought a pair of ECCO TRACK Waterproof shoes, paying nearly $200.00 at a store in Fashion Square in Sherman Oaks--I hesitated at the price but was sold when my wife said, "You deserve a good pair of shoes." I did not deserve what happened to them after not more than half-a-dozen wearings. We were at a restaurant when I happened to look down at the floor, thinking I had stepped on some food waste--it was the entire raised (foam?) sole coming off in pieces, as the attached photos will attest. I emailed them, noting even that while a resident of Denmark (company's home, I believe), I had become impressed by the quality of Danish products and the apparent way in which Danish companies did business which seem to place great emphasis on pride in service and products.
I received no answer and have this pair rotting shoes--only the soles, not the uppers which look fantastic, still.
UGH! If Ecco can hear the Echo, at least honor your customers with some kind of response. Which I don't expect now, some three weeks later. Moreover, after seeing the rest of the board on this one, I'll just chalk it up to a sad experience and hopefully warn some others off making the mistake I did. J. Benti

I have the very same issue. With two pairs of Eccos that have been the most comfortable shoes I have owned, all of a sudden they BOTH disintegrated on the soles. A pair of expensive business shoes that were over $200 and a pair of casual, slip ons. Within one week, they both disintegrated and are no longer usable. I will attempt to do a return/ exchange, but both pairs were purchased more than a year ago. Their one year warranty is insufficient for their inferior quality rubber soles. I fear they will give me the same cool shoulder. I have had shoes by similar high end manufacturers like Mephistopheles and Allen Edmuns that are far older, equally expensive, with far better customer protection. I will not buy Eccos any more.
I had an identical problem. I had a wonderful pair of ecco shoes that lasted ten years. Then... when I finally had to replace them, I bought - you guessed it two pair of eccos! Within a few months these shoes began dissolving of the soles. Both Pairs! DON'T BUY ECCO SHOES! They changed their recipe for the soles and they are no longer stable and reliable. Such a shame as I loved those original shoes.
soles desintegrate /cracking
Well, well, well... there You go..
I'm a danish citizen and have always bought my 'formal' shoes from Ecco, a danish company which I trust in comfort and quality, and this I always felt I got when buying Ecco.
BUT, when my last Ecco's simulanious started to desintegrate and cracking under the soles I was deeply surprised, and I was sure it was a once in a blue moon kind of problem.
Only now after buying a second pair same style, and these also started to crack or disolve after 9 month I have had it !
Looking at all the copmlaints on the Internet, I see they must have a serious problem with their quality (which does not reflect the retail price).
Guess Ecco have become too greedy for profit margings, and this have compromised quality... it's defeneately not like in old days where my Ecco's would last for 10 years.
I'll go for leather soles net time..
Thanks for sharing.

blisters from sandals
I bought a pair of Ecco sandals to wear on a three week trip to Europe. I wore them before I went on the trip and they seemed fine. After one day, my feet began forming blisters and continued to form them during the rest of the trip. I had to buy an expensive pair of tennis shoes and padded socks to protect my feet so I could walk! Thankfully, the Walking Company took them back. My feet are still healing after I've been home a week and a half!

cracks in soles
I bought a pair of Ecco men's shoes in October, 2009. After wearing them for less than six weeks the soles of both shoes began to crack. These were deep cracks. I wrote an email to Ecco Shoes Customer Service and they sent me a mailing bag to send the shoes to them for inspection. After several weeks passed and no response, I contacted them again. They said...

They only sell fakes; not "half real", NOT "made in the same factory in China" OEM, fakes that a blind person would know as fakes.
I wore eccoshoes exclusively for 25 years.
They no longer design shoes with SQUARE toes. Every single option is tapered, bending the big toe in at an angle from the joint.
I have beautiful, normal shaped feet...but very sensitive.
When I pushed my problem with ecco they were all very rude, dismissive and uncaring.
Where can I find an alternative company?
Bought a pair of BIOM ECCO shoes in November 2012. Now the sole is tearing apart on one shoe, and splitting on the other. I have bought many pairs of ECCO shoes over years. This is the first time I had this kind of bad quality experience with ECCO shoes.
soles falling apart
I'd been a huge fan of Ecco shoes for over 10 years. But I will not buy another pair now that I've had problems with multiple pairs. The problem is that their soles turn to mush and fall apart. It's almost as if they'd turned to jello.
My biggest gripe is that their customer service dept has a bunch of [censored] bags working for them. They kept insisting that the warranty coverage is only for one year - even for manufacturing defects! They offered to send me a copy of their warranty so that I can review it; what an unprofessional thing to say to your customer!
I asked to speak with their manager and ended up leaving a message on his voice mail; and of course, I never heard back.

apparently from what I read from other complaints ecco plans on doing nothing to correct my problems with my two 2 pairs of expensive ECCO SHOES hopefully i will hear from you people at ECCO ED DESMARAIS 65 LAKEVIEW ROAD LINCOLN R I 02865 E MAIL poppadesmarais@verizon.net
The soles of mine turned to mush also. There's some kind of inherent defect in the sole material.
soles rotting off
I have 8 pairs of Ecco shoes that are cursed with rotting soles. This is upsetting, as after a few yrs of moderate use, it's unfathomable that they should literally, fall apart. The price paid for the shoes were not cheap, and if I dont get some free repairs done, I will look to other shoe makers that back their products. The entire line is rotten with rotten soles, I might add. I have 10 pairs of Eccos. Two pair of the soles are thus in great shape. This oughtta be a class-action thing, seems endemic in the line.
whom do I contact about this?

I contacted the company, returned the shoes and received a credit voucher. I'm very happy with their customer service!
This is the first comment I have ever made in response to a inferior product. AFTER READING THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ECCO SHOES I JUST COULDNT RESIST. tWO PAIRS OF WORK BOOTS AND TWO PAIRS OF DRESS SHOES.EACH PAIR COST IN EXCESS OF $200.iN EACH CASE THE SOLE MYSTERIOUSLY PARTED FROM THE UPPER, WITHOUT WARNING . TIME TO LOOK AT OTHER MANUFACTURERS SHOES.
Same has occurred with my shoes - they were an expensive pair, over $150! Sure, the shoes are comfortable, but completely useless if they don't last longer than a cheap pair of shoes from Target.
Same bloody experience on my side. And I thought mine was a unique problem caused by magical heelrot elves.
shoes (sole) falling apart
Shoe Style ecco shaker
My Dr. recommended your brand. I bought a few pairs a few years ago.The reason I buy your brand is because I had a right foot operation and i needed the width and comfort. I pd. over 100.00 dollars for this pair. I knew this shoes would last years and No!
The right heel and some of the rest of the sole is falling apart. Also the left shoe is started to do the same. I cannot use them anymore.
I would like to mail them to you for review and invaluation. I would like in return a new pair of the same shoe or have a choice of another pair.
I do not have a receipt.
Thank you for reading my complaint.

soles tear apart
I've bought four or five pairs of Ecco Track shoes over the years because they were especially cushioning for my disabled ankle. That the soles finally started to break up has been hardly surprising considering the punishment they endured, but my latest pair were not nearly as robust. The plastic soles literally ripped open. Ecco don't offer a repair service, and I couldn't prove when they were purchased as they were a gift, but Ecco recommended a shoe repairer who, surprise-surprise, features a resoled pair of Ecco Track shoes on its home page! Has the manufacture moved east to save costs, and have standards lapsed? The photos show my new pair of Eccos on the right. The pair on the left have seen a good year and a half more wear! From now on I'll be looking elsewhere.

soles fell off
Bought my husband a nice pair of Ecco dress shoes...even if he doesn't get "gussied up " all that often. Needless to say they sat in the closet, but when he tried to wear them recently for the first time in a while, the soles split across the ball of the sole and chunks of the heel and toes fell off. I took them to a cobbler, he told me he has seen alot of these and there is nothing he can do. There are websites that I can mail the shoes to and get them repaired for $65, but what will I get back? Anyone try this ? They look new on top and rotton on the bottom. So much for a quality product...

terrible experience
I purchased a pair of Ecco walkers several years ago. Most compfortable shoes I had ever owned, and the most expensive. Walking 5 miles a day, I wore them out .. the soles anyways, rest of the shoe still looked great. I stopped in at an Ecco retail outlet to purchase a replacement pair only to find out they had been discontinued. Why do shoe manufacturers do this? Feet haven't changed much in the last 2, 000 years, you would think someone would have come up with a perfect shoe by now. Anyways, I wrote a complaint to the company (Ecco) never expecting to hear back ... my warranty had long since expired. A couple of months later, I found a nice little box on my front portch. Opened it up ... lo and behold, a brand new pair of Ecco walkers ... compliments of Ecco. Only problem, these new shoes (even though more expensive) are crap compared to my old ones so I hardly ever wear them. Moral of the story is ... never associate a name brand with quality ... and ... if you have an issue with a product "good", or, bad let them know about it. I think sometimes companys hear so much negative feedback they tend to overlook the things they were doing right.

I am surprised of the negative input of Ecco shoe wearers. I have a different experience. About 7 or 8 years ago I purchased a pair of sandals, they look great and walk great. I walk them every day, hard. Even walk in my gardens and then wash them. The soles look like new. The only thing that is most uncomfortable is, that a few days ago the Velco strap loosened and I nearly fell on my nose. Thankfully, I did not crack a rib and was not the worst for wear. I will definitely try another purchase of Ecco shoes. The strap, of course, must be repaired. Perhaps I picked their quality sandal with the clover leave of luck. Sorry to hear that my walking friends had such bad experience. Inge M.
My absolute favorite hiking shoes were Ecco. My only regret was not buying 5 pairs at the time and putting them into deep freeze. ;)
I did discover that after a few years my heel had completely disintegrated from simple exposure to the air. But this was after more than a year of non-use. That was certainly an interesting find.
I have bought Ecco shoes for years (for sheer comfort) - I own ten pairs currently. I did own 12 pairs but recently two of them simply disintegrated. Each had been worn over a 2 year period sporadically - about 10-12 times in all! One pair was bought in Brisbane, one in Auckland. (The ones still sound were all bought in London...fingers crossed!).
I am totally shocked after reading the list of complaints here - is it really possible that the company are simply ignoring this problem?
