Food Basics review: Covid-19 safety

On the morning of Friday November 20th I witnessed a cashier at customer service sniffling and coughing while serving me, she appeared to be sick but yet she was still working. I felt as though my safety was not prioritized at that moment because an ill looking lady was touching my food, what if she had COVID-19! She should have been sent home and not at work! It made me and the customer behind me uncomfortable because if I was feeling sick I would not be outside grocery shopping or at work especially at a time like this, in the middle of a pandemic! I take this pandemic very seriously and I feel like the managers at that store do not. I have had issues with the management/ managers at that store before so I wouldn't be surprised if they were the ones who allowed the cashier to work. I am a supervisor at the Metro down the street, 261 Port Union Rd location and I'm pretty sure that our guidelines are the same when it comes to dealing with employees that come into work sick during the pandemic. The employees and vendors are screened and if they are to answer yes to any of the questions they are to be sent home by the manager(s) working on the floor, and if they are to answer no to all question but are still feeling unwell they should still be sent home. The cashier was obviously unwell and unfit to work that day so I believe she should have been sent home. I want the management at 255 Morningside Food Basics to take these COVID-19 rules seriously. If the problem is that they are understaffed, their management should always make sure that there are other cashiers available for when things like this happen so that they are not short staffed.
