Product recall on 2014 chevrolet impala
The power steering went bad in June 2023 on my 2014 impala. Towed to my long time trusted mechanic who said he pulled off ground wire and found it had been painted before installation. Tested steering assembly and found it to work properly. When he looked on line he found there was an open recall for this problem. He reinstalled the unit but said it might need to be reprogrammed which the dealer would need to do and the recall should have paid for the fix. I talked to gm rep. who said would check on problem and get back to me. Twice no return call, then third time I got through to a representative. She told me the recall was taken care of in 2014, however there was another recall fixed on that same day. My mechanic will verify that the steering repair was never done because all painted areas were still painted. When I took the car to dealership they said $ 3800 dollars for new unit. The gm rep told me nothing they would do because repair was done before in 2014. Nice blowoff to a 31 year gm retiree who has been personally responsible for over 20 new gm vehicle purchases.
Desired outcome: I expected gm to make good on open recall which was never fixed. Instead I am out of pocket over $ 4000 dollars.
Employees discount for family.
Dealers able to deny to give family member of a retired employee of 25 year the discount. If you want people to purchase a GM vehicle all dealers should have to except the discount. No wonder more people are buying foreign vehicles. It is a shame! Daughter purchased a GMC in FL and was told they would not accept the GM discount... That is wrong! Very ashamed! They should have to accept GM family discount!
Desired outcome: To be given the family and friends discount. All dealers ships should have to accept it
I would be suspicious that maybe the dealer double dipped! Took your money and the discount…
Should be reported to GM if a GM dealer doesn’t accept qualified GM discounts.
New Car Orders
I would like to know why it takes so long to order a chevy colorado for a gm employee i think we should get some preference I ordered it on January 7, 2022 i don't even have a order number yet its still in the pending status the dealer said it would be about 20 weeks.
Desired outcome: I would like to get my new truck.

Getting a vehicle authorization number
my name is Dwight Killinger ([protected]@hotmail.com ). I'm a retired employee. when I try to log in to get a number online it ask for information about Roger Killinger. Don't know this person so I can't give the info. that means I have to wait 2 days for FedEx to deliver the number. When I called to correct the mistake I was told it was generated by a third party and can't be changed. I don't understand why my profile can't be updated. Thank you for a QUICK RESPONSE !
Desired outcome: Update my profile.
Family discounts
I am a gm retiree with 20.0833 years of credited service and I am unable to obtain a family-first authorization number for my daughter who is over 25 years of age. I have spent over 2 weeks trying to straighten out your records for my employment having to talk to fidelity and prudential to be denied in obtaining the proper years credited. In the past I had been able to obtain this for my children.
Desired outcome: Credit me with over 20 years of service so I may continue to obtain authorizations for my family members.
Website application process
My father passed away and this is the first time I have filed for a discount on my own. The website application process was very frustrating and very user unfriendly. I completed my information. I completed my father's information. I tried to press the submit tab to proceed with the process. An error message came up each time stating my personal information was incorrect. I know my name, date or birth, etc. I also know my father's information. I repeatedly tried to submit this application without success. I spoke to a customer service representative who finally told me I had to compete the "surviving spouse" information before I could proceed. My parents have been divorced for 30 years. My mother was not entitled to his pension. She is not his "surviving spouse". Finally he told me that I would have to put n/a in each of the sections and use 1/1/01 as her date of birth. What?! That is ridiculous! On top of the very frustrating and unnecessary struggles to complete this process, I am told that the dealer I purchased my vehicle from would be losing money the longer it took for me to complete this application and that the loss would be passed on to the salesman.
I am so upset about this! My father would be upset as well! The reason the application process was not completed the next day was because of the website not because I did anything wrong or the dealership or the salesman did anything wrong. Yet the dealership is being penalized because your website demands information that is insignificant and inappropriate be completed. This information should be optional and easily bypassed if this is not specific for the applicant.
The dealership deserves the money available through this process!
Are we suppose to get points when buying a new GMC car
Do General motors retirees get a discount on extended warranties for family and friends
Signing on to family legacy
I am interested in the family legacy program. Every time I start the form, a red alert comes up telling me my telephone number is too short. I did put the area code in. This is very frustrating, I've been trying now for an hour and a half! I want an authorization code if I'm going to continue to purchase a GM product..
Now they want more characters before I can submit.

I have been trying to get an authorization for a new car discount for my nephew since before thanksgiving. I get an email saying I will receive the number within two days. I still don't have it. I applied for another one again last night. The car dealer is requesting the number. what do you suggest I do.
I can't believe this is so difficult. I have always been able to do this in a matter of minutes. I cannot find a phone number to contact a live representative . Lousy customer service.

The 4 question scenario by a third party is preposterous. Find another actual way to verify the requestor is who she/he says. My first attempt, none of the questions had any relevancy nor answers I would pick except none. My second attempt 90 minutes later insisted on answering all four questions but here were only three.
This procedure should be a disgraceful embarrassment to GM and how it treats its most loyal customers and former employees. Pathetic, especially in a world of modern technology GM claims to lead! If I was still working there, the ones responsible for this nonsense wouldn’t be.
Family legacy discount
Dear General Motors,
I am a loyal General Motors customer. I have been loyal to your company for as long as I can remember, because I was born into a GM family. My father, Ernest Ortiz Jr., has worked on the line for you for many years, and he waited patiently for years after being laid off, on a call back list, so that he could continue working for you when you needed him again. Sadly, my father passed away unexpectedly this May. He was one of your hardest workers and most loyal employees, and he made a positive impact with your company for over 30 years. I know that you only recognize his service for over 26 years, but with his time waiting to be called back, its well over 30 years. He was loyal to you until his last day, but I guess his loyalty was not enough. He always thought that his time with GM would protect his family and allow them to benefit from his time and dedication to your company. Unfortunately, I was not approved for my dad's GM discount after applying with the GM Family Legacy Program, because he was not retired on the date of his death. I am disappointed that a company that we have been loyal to for so long, would not show a little bit of appreciation and provide an exception on this basis of service and dedication. My family and I would have been as loyal to you as my father was, because that is a value he taught us. But in your decision to deny us this benefit, that value is starting to waiver. Frankly, your decision feels like you have poured salt in an open wound.
Sara Ortiz
Sara, I can understand your frustration, fortunately or unfortunately I do have the GM Family Legacy Program. The program is basically worthless. You can receive a better deal if you pay attention and do some research straight from the dealer. GM should abandon this program all together.
