GreenGeeks horrible service

I'll have to give a little backstory in order for this to make sense:

I had been with this hosting company for nearly five months and have dealt with this horrible service - servers continually had horrible ping times if not went completely down - horrible support - I was upsold to every time I went to complain that my users weren't able to access my website and/or the downtimes I spotted on Integro - and horrible management - this is coming in a moment.

Every day my users would experience some sort of lag and even some days some loss as to data. I complained about this for months, every chance and opportunity I had.

Did I mention that also every time I complained, I was given the same "the server is fine - pay 100+$$ for a VPS if you don't want to deal with this" treatment? This is the upsale I was talking about. No one would admit to any problem or even listen to what I had to say. Regardless of my admin/netadmin experience.

So it eventually came to filling a complaint to the BBB over these issues, being that I was promised 99.9% uptime[!], that their servers hardly ever went down . . . the usual lines.

Finally, after arguing with the "the servers are fine and you're past your 30 day money back guarantee" crap - can you believe they actually said that in my response to my BBB's complaint too? - they finally issued me a refund . . . sans 25$$. The 'fee for registering a domain name'. When everyone else charges 10$$. Anyway, that isn't even the worst of it. Not a very short time after I receive this email did they completely cut off my service. No grabbing my domain name, no backing up my website, no backing up my database. No access, period.

Fine. Whatever. I ask them for my backups, they say "this goes to support". That's fine. Or it would have been had I not already requested my domain unlocked and my epp key so I can move my business - yes, this is my domain for my internet business - to another host. Apparently these people are playing sore with me since at this point in time (right now) the only thing they've managed to do is merge my tickets and basically reprimand me for having more than one ticket.

No matter that I asked for my backups. Doesn't matter to them. My domain? Doesn't matter. Creating a ticket in their support center and a ticket in their billing center, who contacted me in the first place? Horrible! How could I? No matter that I was told in their live chat to request my domain unlocked through support.

So I'm still waiting on my backups/domain to be unlocked so I can move my business, which has been down since this started, to another host.

Don't ever go with this company if you want any kind of decent support. Or even lousy. They didn't seem to listen to me, at least.

GreenGeeks domain name stealing and extortion

stay away from green geeks - greengeeks.com greengeeks. ca This company is a misleading misrepresentation web hosting company. Their Deals and hosting packages are all lies.

Here is one of their scam. It is the domain name stealing scam.

Green Geeks has a "Free domain for life" promotion, in which they claim that if a customer signs for a hosting plan they get a free domain for life. The truth is that it is a 'domain name stealing exercise', or a 'force customer to host with green geeks for ever' scam.

Here is the scam. When a customer signs up for website hosting with green geeks, and they get a new domain name or transfer their domain to green geeks, their domain name fee is deducted from the hosting plan. Inevitably it appears that the domain name was for free. However the scam is that, the customer is never ever given the account information to manage their domain name. Such that the customer can not independently renew their domain name or even transfer their domain name to another host.

Basicly a domain name belongs to the entity that has the domain name account information.in essence green geeks is owning this customers, domain name under the pretext that they have provided them with a domain name for free. When the domain name expires, if the the customer chooses not to renew their hosting plan with Green Geeks, but wants to retain their domain name or even transfer it to another host, they are asked to pay an ambiguous amount of money even upwards of $250. Refusal to renew your domain name with Green Geeks, will practically result in the customer losing their domain name unless they pay the asked amount of money to green geeks.

So if a customer has a premium domain name and does not want to renew with green geeks or does not want to lose it, they are forced to pay what ever amount of money that green geeks asks them to pay for domain name renewal or hosting plan renewal. Because the customer does not have their domain account information, they are at the mercy of green geeks. They cannot choose to host elsewhere. Note that at the time of Domain renewal, the customer's hosting fees may have increased from what they paid previously at time of sign up. So this exercise can go on indefinitely as long as you host with Green geeks.in essence the customer does not own their domain name. If you request for your domain name acount information and want to transfer your domain name, you will be expected to pay an exorbitant amount of money. They claim that they are getting a refund they gave you initially for the Free domain name. they then charge you what ever they want.

So if you have held your domain for at least a year, you will have already obtained some form of internet notoriety, in the form of google page rank, or even dedicated website traffic, so it is also in green geeks interest that they keep your domain, They will make it as hard as possible for you to transfer your domain name, such that they themselves set up one of those advert based directed websites on your domain.

GreenGeeks refused refund for services not received

I signed up with Green Geeks webhosting and paid for a year in advance specifically because they offered a full site transfer with a year prepaid. I sent them my transfer details and they said the files were transferred but upon checking, none of my files were transferred at all. I had to completely set up and transfer all my own files. I ran into a few snags with the available space to finish the transfer. To be specific, I had to alter the php. ini file. I sent them a support ticket asking how to change the upload amount and never heard back. Frustrated, when I hit the next snag, I realized that I simply did not have the time to do the transfer myself and do all the research necessary to make it happen. I sent in a request to cancel my service and receive a PRORATED refund. I was told that in order to get a full refund I had to request it within 30 days of signing up and I was requesting to cancel on the 31st day. I replied that I was not interested in a money back guarantee and was happy to pay for the 31 days that I had service but I wanted a refund for the 11 months that have not even happened yet. Each email I received back from billing was unbelievably rude and completely ignored anything I was saying. They gave me a 2 mo credit (instead of 11) and then when I said, no, I want to cancel and get a refund, they took back the 2 months credit and told me I was not entitled to anything because I canceled on the 31st day of service.

After a year I decided not to renew my web site .I got a dozen emails asking me to renew .Choosing to not answer these emails .They took it on themselves to take 95 dollars out of my credit card saying you have to fill out a form to get out. Which I had no idea until I got the bill from my credit card co. and then they say it is to late no refunds. This is slimy business at its best .avoid them use anyone else.

I had a similar experience in struggling to get a refund from them, and I would be interested to know if you ever got your refund?

In March 2014 I signed up for a year's web hosting with GreenGeeks LLC, as recommended by many online reviews.

2 days after submitting a payment of $142.56, I received an email stating that my "application" for web hosting had been refused and I would not be able to use their services. No explanation was given as to why they refused to let me host a perfectly reasonable (web design) site on their servers. They said that I would recieve a refund via PayPal (the method of payment) within 14 days.

No refund was ever forthcoming.

I have attempted to recover the funds via Paypal's resolution centre with no luck, and have emailed the company on an almost weekly basis since. Now, in July 2014, I have not received a response from any of my emails, other than one to say that the matter had been referred to the billing team and I would receive a response within 14 days. Still, no money... and am not sure it will ever be returned.

An awful, awful company whose actions are tantamount to theft. Avoid them like the plague!

I find it interesting that GreenGeeks have failed to respond to this complaint on the board. Typical of their horrid treatment of their customers.

I, myself, am waiting for a refund for 4 months after they took payment but refused to provide me a web hosting service. They do not respond to emails. Bit of a scam company in my opinion.

GreenGeeks beware

I used GreenGeeks for 2 months with my new website and they suspended me because of excessive use of my website (200 hits a day) I paid for a year in advance for unlimited Space, Unlimited Bandwidth. They refuse to talk with me on the phone and said they will only email about this. They turned me off with no warning, no chance to get a backup of my site so I could move it or anything.
I am out my 1 year in advance I paid them and not service. DO NOT TRUSDT GREENGEEKS HOSTING

Please Guys, how can I raise a complaint about GreenGeeks? Have any of you managed to get your money back, at leat the remaining tenure, after the 30 days?
I paid for 3y because I thought it was a green, honest and secure hosting, but basically after a year of having a few dormant domains there I have decided to start working on them and Boom! Malware all over! Hacked big time! That was just after installing WP from their cpanel. GG dismisses like it your fault, does not answer any questions regarding to security or company' complaint procedure. The fact is I have never have experienced such a breach of security on sites that I run for years, nevertheless ones that were basically dormant. C'mon WP from your on Cpanel!

They STILL suck mightily! They say unlimited storage then limit you to 150, 000 files (inodes). They say unlimited email accounts then limit your entire domain to sending 100 emails per hour. What if you had 100 email accounts well guess what you would have to wait your turn to send an email. No where on their site does it say there's a limit like this. I started moving a few sites to them and found it out the hard way. You also can't cPanel/WHM transfer away from them. There is no backup option in the cPanel you get from them. They charge you ($$) to make a full cPanel backup. They like green alright and it's getting all the money they can get from people should be called GreenGeek$. Their customer service doesn't answer your questions at all they just run you around in circles until you give up it seems. Worst hosting provider experience I have had to date by far!

I have canceled the plan before actually using the hosting because I saw this thread. It's been already 1 month since I canceled. I have sent numerous emails and called the support team also but they just keep saying I will see the refund soon. This company is a complete fraud you should avoid at all costs.

There are two sides with the Green Geeks that I can comment:
The first is amazing and that is customer support including a live chat which is always helpful. Their customer service is very helpful and they definitely know what they are doing!

The second side is HORRIBLE and that is their hosting itself, more specifically their VPS plans. As of today, their VPS plans are more expensive than the competition and in comparison their processor is much slower, with less RAM and less bandwidth. The only pro is the use of SSD versus regular HDD and the use of renewable energy which is to be applauded.

For the rest, the server keeps crashing over and over on a daily basis which has never happened with another hosting company I used, same plugins, same setup and same size, # of visitors, nothing out of the ordinary. I cannot count on them. They have potential but for now, thumbs down!

This review is way too nice. Greengeek's constant issues with technical problems, dingbat tech support, and other failures, has cost my company $3000 to date. Down time of domains and email is frequent. And since Greengeeks has inferior techs, it takes a day to more to get it back up. And Greengeeks likes to NOT give money back even when its their fault. Now we have to find a new host service and spend more money migrating.

Greengeeks is toxic.

Really very very bad support from billing team. no response since 11days now. they have debited my credit card & I don't even have any account with them. I had purchased one account but I cancelled it because the price highlighted on website is not actually given. also, they have deducted some amount while refund. the service is pathetic. hoping to get response after reading this on blog. attached is the print screen of chat & still now response.

I've been with greengeeks for several years. The upsides outweigh the negatives. The support at level 1 is relatively technically astute (compared to godaddy, bluehost or networksolutions as a few examples, who know nothing except how their own website works usually). They are pretty patient too. I have had problems over the years, some of them our fault, and still the help ranged from "saved our butts" to decent (sometimes the level 2 techs need a little extra push; some are a little resistant to review in depth until you have exhausted your own research I think, even when they know it might be their server issues), but I don't think any service is flawless. I like greengeeks overall. I guess that is better than neutral.

Scam web hosting. I paid 3 years in advance some hours and I wanted a refund. I was the only one who used the site and the limits got high! The limited the site's resources they lied about everything they said they're really mean liars. After more than 7 days of contacting many times per day they partially refunded me, they claimed a setup fee of like 15$ and a 14$ for the domain name that was allegedly FREE! [censored] greengeeks.
I fell into their trap I lost my money in vain. I failed the project I wanted to build.. I hated the web because of them...i can't trust any web host anymore

Green Geeks is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Their service is abominable, the staff is rude and condescending, and it is next to impossible to cancel an account. I have been trying since December 2013 to cancel my account. All my attempts go nowhere -I just keep receiving automated emails stating that they are unable to fulfill my request because of inaccurate information. What? So, I fill out the cancellation form again and again. Same automated email comes back. I have been trying to do as they ask, thinking it is probably me doing something wrong. However, after countless emails and endless frustration, I really believe they are messing with me, simply because I want to cancel. As of this writing, I am still unable to cancel my account, having received yet another automated email today stating that they cannot fulfill my request because of inaccurate information. As a small business owner, I am appalled by this, and truly perplexed. Why would a company resort to such tactics? It is disheartening.
So, consider yourself warned.

Problems after problems. Been with them for 3 years and I've had enough. Last week we were left with 13 customers without email for a full day, the reason: Opps, we changed DNS by mistake. This is only but ONE issue I've had over the years. Countless times I've asked management to call or even email. Did they? Nop.. STAY AWAY you are warned.
