Intoxalock Device
Consumers Beware. Please read below. I've listed the problems I've had and continue to have with Intoxalock. Because of these continual errors with their device, I'm not able to have the Intoxalock system removed from my 2018 Nissan Murano and have been bounced back and forth between Intoxalock and the DMV.
1) Intoxalock reports violations and lock outs to the DMV whether they are errors or not. Intoxalock has a charge of $75 for each lock out. I have called Intoxalock to report the error when my system has noted an inaccurate lock out. Normally, the process involves having to explain the error to the Intoxalock phone representative, then that does nothing which means I have to escalate the problem to the supervisor. Sometimes I am provided a lock out credit of $75 and other times, such as today, I am not and I must pay the $75 or my car won't start.
2). The Intoxalock device has gone off many times when my car has been turned off and continues to report missed tests. It was suggested I get a new device which I did. The problem still persisted. I was told it could be my car and nothing was done.
3). The Intoxalock device picked up on hair spray which I sprayed once I turned my car off. I drove to work which meant I had to blow into the device to start the car, then 5 minutes later I am requested to blow again. Once I pulled up to work which was 30 minutes later, I then turned my car off. This is when I thought it was safe to use my hair spray. Once I sprayed my hair, the device went off for a retest and it stated there was a detection and I was locked out. Again, this is a $75 reset fee which I must pay or I can't start my car. The DMV is sent the notice of violation, although, they are not notified of the reset refunds due to system errors.
4). Please Note: If you take your vehicle in for regular maintenance with your car dealership and/or take your car in for detailing, you must call in advance to notify Intoxalock. Also, note that certain times of the day it is very difficult to get a representative to answer the phone. Therefore, if you don't get through to Intoxalock beforehand and your car is in the shop running, once it goes off for a retest and you're not there to give it, you are charged another $75 for a lock out violation. Intoxalock can review their records to see the exact location of your car at that time to note it was maintenance or detailing, but they won't do that snd so again I must pay the $75.
Desired outcome: I want to be refunded for all of the charges after my 6 month lease was up. The judge ordered that amount of time and it is now going on two years that this Intoxalock system has been in my vehicle.
Intoxalock breathalyzer lock out (unauthorized start)
I have had 7 or more violation 11's because of the way this device was installed in my 2007 Saturn Ion. This has happened while I have been driving and also while I try to start the vehicle back up with the 3 minute countdown to do so. I have stopped starting the car with the countdown because each time it sets me in a violation 11 lockout. The guy who...

I got the intoxalock in October 2020. I had it in my nissan cube. Almost immediately after I got it in the check engine light came on. I called the mechanic and he said "if your car is running OK then it might be the device triggering it. Sometimes that happens." Then my battery died. 😒 With that came all of the fees to get it recalibrated. After I bought a new battery for my car it started running weird and so I tried to take it to a few different mechanics but they couldn't get the computer to read any codes due to the device. They would have had to take it out to find the issue. I paid 3 different mechanics to and finally found one who was willing to go in blind and try to figure out what was wrong. By this time my car had completely died on me so I was having it towed everywhere. (Keep in mind I'm a single mom with no vehicle at this time) the mechanic told me that a cylinder in my engine lost pressure but they didn't know why. So here I am without a vehicle and cannot get it fixed. So I bought another car with the help of my parents. They brought me my new Nissan juke from Wyoming to Oregon and it was running great! I only had to have the interlock device in for about 4 months at this point so I had it moved from my cube to my juke. Shortly after that my juke started making a weird noise under the hood and I took it in. It had no oil in it. I thought that was so weird because I just had an oil change and I watched them put oil in my car a month prior. I didn't have any oil leaks and there was no oil spots in my driveway. They put oil back in and it started running better. (Not great but better) about 3 weeks later I got the device taken out and they checked my oil again. I was almost out of oil AGAIN! So I told them "I don't have any leaks and no spots in my driveway. How is this possible?" So he went to my exhaust and ran his finger through and and what would you know there's oil in it. I asked him what that meant and why it's doing that and he said "That means you need a new car because your motor is going out" TWO CARS! Two cars with the same exact problem after I got this device installed! There's only one common denominator here. And now I'm reading all of these reviews. I'm sick about this. Has anyone started a class action lawsuit? If so I would like your attorneys contact information please. You can comment on here and I'll respond.
Desired outcome: Repayment
Ignition device
My father had the device on his van...He lived in Florida...he passed away unexpectedly so we had to travel from Michigan to settle his estate..we contacted Intoxalock and sent a copy of the death certificate...First they wanted to charge 129.00 dollars to disarm it for 2 hrs to drive it to a center to have removed...Then said it was going to take 3-5 days for the compliant dept to review and approve the removal?...we don't live here and have to return to Michigan...They would make no concessions to help... customer service was rude and we spoke to 3 different people who all said something different... It's ridiculous and will also be filing a complaint with the state to use a different company
Desired outcome: Need this process expedited in these circumstances
The breathe analyzer/service
I live in a small town in California. My van gets me to and from work. I don't have to drive on the freeway at all, and I would have problems if I did. Ok let me back up. Once I got my machine installed in April 2021 and within a couple of days my radio stopped working. Still isn't till this day. Have had other problems also. Been locked out twice and had to pay $75 on top of $45 every other week which is robbery. I haven't had any alcohol since 2013, but sometimes it says I do. I want to use foul language and talk so bad about this whole highway robbery process, but I'm not. Just gives them another reason to somehow get more money. Then I have to pay to get calibrated which brings me to the reason I'm writing this. I called to get mine calibrated, and I was hit with the "We don't do intoxalock anymore." Remind you this was the only place in my town that does it. The closest place is 20 miles away.. And they expect me to have my van break down cause they do not know how to do business. K was never called, emailed, or anything no type of heads up! So I have 3 days till the 25th or my car will not start. We'll if I don't get any help in 2 days im removing this machine myself and selling it on ebay.. YouTube knows everything.
Desired outcome: Do you really have to ask
Interlock
I have a 2019 Jeep Compass with 60k miles that I purchased BRAND NEW, and have had NO maintenance completed on it until I had an interlock installed by two Intoxalock service centers, which was incorrectly installed 3 different times, each with wiring errors. I got my interlock installed the last week of July and within the first week I had more than 5 lock outs because the error kept reading that I had low battery, but seeing that my vehicle is a newer model I can check what the voltage AND their own service center saying my battery is in good condition. I have had many lock outs and my car horn honk when I either lock it or will randomly honk even when I'm not in my vehicle, including my car stalling out in mid traffic, the interlock turning on when the vehicle is off and in the middle of the night causing lock outs because my interlock was installed incorrectly for the second time. The third time i went to the shop for what i thought was a rewiring appointment, ended up being a recallibration which i had to call in three times at the shop because the representative put in the wrong work order. This isnt including all their hidden fees from lock out fee for $75 EVERY TIME it locks out, and the device replacement the shop charges for $30 EVERYTIME they cant figure out what the issue is, and the out of pocket fee for the tow if you cant start your vehicle. As of October 4, 2021 my transmission went out on my vehicle, and NOBODY from intoxalock has been able to direct me to where i need to go. I had been hung up on countless times in the last two weeks because no one knows what theyre doing INCLUDING their supervisors. I spoke with a girl yesterday who tried to tell me that an interlock device doesnt cause problems like this and the mechanic i spoke with at the dealership who refuses to even touch my car because of the liability issues he doesnt want to have, is wrong, meanwhile neither she or i are mechanics. And I asked her if part of her job is to know what kind of complaints customers around the USA have about their vehicles and the Interlock device, because if she did then she would know. The dealership i got my car from told me my warranty will not cover the damage because by taking my car to a service center who did any work under my hood with my wires are the ones at fault, and it isn't a manufacturer issuer even if i were to remove my IID for 72 hours that Im allowed, because Oh yea, thats another $550 to remove that Intolalock doesnt cover, and additional fees to reinstall. The times the service center said would take an hour to install the device, ended up being more than 3hours. If I dont get an ansewr from someone soon I will sue Intoxalock and make them pay for the damages that were done to my car. I will ask around in blogs and complaint sites to see if there is an active lawsuit to get back what I have already put in including the fixtures for my vehicle if not more.
Desired outcome: My vehicle to be repaired and the rest of my payments paid for including all the out of pocket costs
Equipment & worst customer service ever
When I first talked to a customer service representative everything seemed really legitimate & were nice to me. Since that time I have had nothing but problems.
Firstly, the service center DISMANTLED MY HOOD RELEASE, causing my car to be rendered useless for going on three months, as it is dead due to a lockout apparently caused by a poor amount of a breath sample after about the millionth retest in the 2 hours I actually attempted to use the device.. The service center also did not give me a training session on all the equipment (as I was promised by Intoxalock). He spent 5 minutes only showing me how to blow into the apparatus.
The first and only day that I attempted to drive with my breathalyzer I was re-tested every five to ten minutes, as I mentioned above, while driving in the middle of traffic. Before it locked me out, (which was no fault of my own yet they jump at the chance to charge you big time lockout fees anyways) the constant retesting almost caused an accident & set off alarms repeatedly ... it was the most stressful and traumatizing day. Now to add even more insult to injury, I have lost a third of my income due to not being able to drive and have to fork out more money for rides all the time… all the while still being financially raped by this company.
I've tried to contact customer service through their chat, through their app, & through their phone numbers. I continually get hung up on or get no resolution if I actually do get through the infuriating automated system… just a lot of flowery talk and then they drop the call. The app's live chat is always evasive and "too busy to reply".
They insist that I need some sort of statement from my court authority in order to remove the device but when I talked to my lawyer he said this is not true & the court does not care where I go to get the breathalyzer or anything to do with that service as long as I only drive a car equipped with one.
I want this device removed and I am reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau (which Intoxalock is not accredited through by the way). I am going to go to any lengths to tell everyone how horrible this experience has been & the stress involved to not only myself but my entire family.
My lawyer has informed me that I need to send a letter stating that I demand removal of the device and the court has no obligation to communicate with the company because the judge only cares that I have a breathalyzer in a car that I drive and nothing more…In fact he told me that she, the judge, would not communicate with this company nor give them a permission for removal which they say is required. This is my property and it needs to be removed! If I decide to continue to drive, which right now I am not and don't plan to as I'm forfeiting my license for the next year … but if I do decide to drive again I will definitely find a different company … one that's willing to work with their customers and not cause such stress… all the while charging me outrageous biweekly fees etc.
I've been in customer service for 27 years and I have never once encountered a company like this, or to this extent anyway… so shady, so unhelpful so unavailable… so completely incompetent.
Please let me know if there are any legal proceedings that customers are attempting… I believe there may be cause for a class action suit after seeing so many others with similar experiences.
Desired outcome: Response/HELP
Intoxalock - worst customer service ever! along with there equipment!
Omg!
Karen2222 your issues are just about the same as mine.
I am going through a very similar experience with this company intoxalock! at 1st when you called you were able to speak with someone at any time but once they suckered you into going with there company forget takling to a real person. all you get is a almost impossible automated system and if you do get someone you either cannot understand them or they hang up on you. the customer service like you state is horrible. from day 1 this company has lied to me. I started having problems with my device right off the bat. I only got a 5 min demo. on this is what you do blow inhale blow again.. that was it. I have been under more stress with this company and this device. I personally think the dmv & madd should have to ride with someone who has this device installed in their vehicle. I personally believe we are putting more people at risk with this contraption more so if we had a couple of drinks in us then get behind the wheel. they say hands free driving! well I promise you this blow machine is far from hands free. it is more distracting than a cell phone any day. what is the difference between holding this blow machine device? and a cell phone device? in your hand? the problem I have with this device are the mouth piece pops off, you get the alert to blow, you have so many minutes to do this cant find the mouth piece because it is rolling in the floorboard somewhere. the machine keeps warning you, almost wreck because you are not paying attention to the road you are more concerned about blowing in this device. trying to locate the mouth piece, run a stop sign because once again the mouth piece comes off. get pulled by the cops. almost hit someone garbage cans because it alerts you to blow while I am going around a sharp curve. to top everything off this intoxalock blow machine device drains my battery! I lost my one job because I kept being late for work.. kept on having to jump start my truck off everyday.. I tried to explain to my boss what was going on. but they had enough of it. but when you go to making around $2, 200 or more a month to nothing for 3 months. and the only job I could find that was local close to home starts you off at $8.65 a hr and all you get is 27 hours working 6 days a week to get the hours I do work. (I live in a small town in florida) that was like a slap in the face, but you have to do what you can do. but I got behind on my payments with intox-a-loc co. tried to explain my situation, how my I kept on jumping off my truck and made me either late or miss work because of it. I had to purchase a new battery not even 2 weeks of me having it I am back jump starting my truck again. called or tried to call customer service, but got the chat instead. well I was supposed to get a call from someone to let me know what time to take my truck to have it looked at. I have asked this company why do the lights come on and when to they come on the camera. they all say only when you blow in the machine. I said well then why do I have viedos I have made of the lights on the camera coming on and I have not even touched the device? I am like this is a invasion of my privicy! the company is qucik to answer no no that is not so. it only takes a picture when you blow in the machine.. I am like that is not whay you just said. you told me the lights come on when it takes a picture.. to top all this here is what gets me... they finally agree after they already told me 1 month ago they would pay to have it looked at where I do my calibration well the customer service rep I was talking with that day.. I told her that they would not accept any more po's from them, because thry have not paid there bill yet from the other po's. now to have this headache nerve wrecking machine looked at and find out why it is killing my battery I will have to miss a day of work and drive 1 hr away pay for gas I would not have used. and my pickup loves gas.. also I was supposed to recieve 2 different forms to fill out one was a rebate form and the other was for the battery I had to purchase.. I never have recieved them etheir.. but yet they want to lock me out of my own truck because I am late making my payments. at least I am trying to get caught up. if they would get somewhat caught up on there bills at the local auto center I use I would not have to drive one hour away. but do they are? so my opinion is I would not reccomend this company to anyone.. please if you ever have to get one of these blow machine device do your investgating on the company save your sanity and mind and safe yourself a lot of grief & do not go with this intoxalock company!
I do wish I knew how and who to speak with a class action suit. I would sign up. because this is just crazy to have to go through!
Interlock Removal
I have my license back as of 10/1/21. I sent Intoxalock a PDF of my license picture on that day. I understood that it would take 24 to 48 hours/ business days to get my removal package sent to my service center (Bingham Tire in Clinton, TN). I have called several times and when I called today 10/5/21 I was down talked and made to eel like an idiot by a representative because I needed to have more informationaboutmy device removal. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she told me I was just not understanding her and refused my request! After sending a not nice email I was then told that the PDF I sent would not work. I responded and sent 3 options to every source within the company. I then called again this evening and once again given the run around (the rep was polite) with nothing solved once again. I am being held hostage by a company when I have been released by the state 5 days ago. My payment will go through again tomorrow but I refuse to pay anything else beyond that point. I have a co-worker that in need of an ignition interlock company and I was going to recommend but have now told him to go elsewhere. I need a call tomorrow or my removal package sent to Bingham tire immediately. My phone number as on file is [protected].

Desired outcome: Removal Package sent to Bingham Tire in Clinton, TN
Poor Service
When I first had the device installed, I was encouraged to purchase a more powerful battery to handle the drain from the device which I did. the device worked fine until my battery started needing to be charged every few days. (which I was unaware of) I recently suffered a stoke leaving my left eye closed and not being able to drive. I continued having the payments taken from my account along with getting the required calibration of the device. this happened this past May, 2021. so, I have been paying since May, 2021 not driving still got the device calibrated, went through a lockout twice all without the vehicle being moved. I would think Intoxalock would reach out questioning what the problem could be. there's a camera inside the vehicle monitoring my movement and I'm sure there is some type of GPS on where the vehicle is at. I mean .if you look at the mileage you'd tell the vehicle was not moved but my account was up to date. I received my letter of revocation and sent it in so I could remove it. just as I tried to schedule a removal, i get yet another lockout. they do not let you know you are about to be locked out but are quick to remind you of a upcoming payment. I have talked with people at the office explained my problem yet I'm still stuck with paying for the lockout fee, along with the removal fee. I'm ok with the removal fee, but having to pay for the lockout fee along with a administration fee, especially when I've been paying for the last 2 months which obviously had a lockout that I wasn't aware of is unheard of . this company is wrong for this.
Desired outcome: I would like to be reimbursed for the lockout fee of $75
Electronic ignition install
I'm in indigent program but had to pay 250 for install salesman said I would get reimbursed but have no one to talk to and no reimbursement form salesman unavailable now hard to reach somebody at customer service have hard time understanding person when you do get through didn't get manual with device which would be helpful
Desired outcome: Would like money back as promised
Interlock device
Just as all the other posts, I too am having problems starting my car. This seems to be a universal complaint yet they have no solutions to the problem. The customer service department doesn't know anything other than the script they are given. same answers every time. There appears to be no way to have your concerns escalated to higher management. I don't know what other choices are available, but I would advise to go with anyone else.
Liars.
I had my license suspended in Georgia. I had met all the criteria except for having a IID installed. Well, I moved to Tennessee for work and finally was stable enough to afford an IID. I called intoxalock and their state specialist told me everything was fine, that I had to go to Georgia to get the unit installed, but I could have it serviced closer to...

After four months of complying with my local DMV and completing all requirements I received approval to remove the device. I then sent in my paperwork and was released by Intoxalock. It took 4+ hours on the phone today to finally have the appointment made. Customer service and the Intoxalock installers/removers were barely capable of setting up an...

Automated system can't find my account so I have to sit through the entire phone tree to find a way to get through. Service reps repeatedly refuse to let me talk to a supervisor. They repeatedly have told me they sent forms to penndot, penndot says they never received them — multiple times. They have reported to penndot after my 1 year restriction was up — causing still more problems. This has been a horrible experience.
Desired outcome: Resolve the problem
Interlock device
Where do I start? Let's start with the device itself. It's been installed for around 6-7 months now. After being calibrated each time, device malfunctions and stops working. When you call for service, they tell you to troubleshoot which does nothing because it's the crap device that's causing the issues. I've had false positives multiple times but only after it's been calibrated. Once they replace it with a new device, it works like a charm. Would definitively consider this to be a one time use only device considering it just doesn't seem to work after it's been calibrated.
Customer service. This is the gold. They're extremely rude when you call. Maybe not intentionally but I feel it's extremely rude to tell someone that they don't know what they're talking about when they're holding the device in their hands and reading the message from the screen of the device as it's appearing. It recently told me that Sample 1 was not accepted. When I relayed this to the customer service rep I was told, "the device would never say sample not accepted." Yeaaa... okay buddy. Device in hand says otherwise. Was informed to disconnect my battery and leave it overnight and try again, did this and it worked ONCE. Next time I started it, I failed. Guess I could just walk home from work? When I attempted to have them contact Car Toys to assist me, I was informed that it needed to be inspected and could be done on Friday... it was Wednesday. I guess I can call out of work for two days. No big deal at all. The next issue is that I go to car toys with the device anyway, had to catch a ride, and they were told that I would come in on Friday WITH MY VEHICLE. You know, the one that won't start because it has the interlock connected that keeps saying I've failed. Please choose a different company if you have more than one option unless you enjoy throwing your money up the monkey's butt!
Desired outcome: Better device.
IID caused all lights to stop working
2 hours after the installation of the IID, my left front lights went out.
Called the installer and they asked for me to come back because it might be a fuse blown. Went back and they looked at the fusses but couldn't find any blown. So they said it might just be the bulbs... the entire set... oaky whatever I'll replace them.
Fast forward 2 weeks and now none of my lights work and I am unable to get anyone to service the because of COVID and the fact that someone will have to blow in it every 5-55 mins. Asked if there was a way that they could disconnect the it and put it in maintenance mode... nope. In fact I would have to have it uninstalled (need a court order) and then have it reinstalled all at a cost.
so, I have a truck with 40k miles that I cannot drive unless the sun is up. I highly recommend that you do not use this device and search for an alternative to save you the headaches and drain on your finances.
Ignition interlock
Continually discharges battery. Company says you have to start it everyday but it still drains it. False positives and they argue with you. I took vitamins and it failed. I drank a vitamin water on a long drive and it failed. I feel the camera is invasive as well. Totally outdated machine and they charge you for all it's errors. The customer service is obviously outsourced and hard to understand.

They are a horrible company. Bought my own code reader for 20 bucks. Shows cylinder 1 misfiring. It August in Georgia, just as hot at 9am as it was at 11am. Car has been driving fine always. Read full review of IntoxalockVehicle and non vehicle accounts
I started my account with them on July 29th 2020. On September 8th 2020 my vehicle was in a car accident and totaled. It took three weeks of me calling them and getting hung up on and being placed on hold for hours just to find out that there is no way to get the device out of my vehicle. The options given where tow it to Philadelphia or take it to where I get my calibrations done. The problem with taking it to Philadelphia is it is 300 miles away. And totaled, so I would have to tow it. The problem with tint world, where they were always great. It was that my vehicle was coming in on a flatbed due to the damage. And their facility cannot accommodate a flatbed. After finding somebody that can take all the device pieces out of my totaled vehicle and sending it back in. I also at that point I had a zero balance owed for all fees. And I, and I was instructed to close my vehicle account. This all took about three to five weeks to actually come to an end after the first three weeks of getting nowhere. At this time I also asked them multiple times what I needed to do and come up into my when my time is up for my interlock license is everything that I need to do on my end taking care of? Literally, I asked multiple people multiple times throughout these three to five weeks. Not once was I ever told that I needed to start a non vehicle account or that my time was no longer accruing towards the 365 days of my interlock license. So this June I started a non vehicle account after again a week of trying to get hold of anybody at interlock who could actually help. When I initially called in June I was just checking up to make sure that everything was up-to-date and in order so that way I knew if I was going to be expecting letters from Pennsylvania. With my eligibility letter and my renewal because my regular license had expired, enjoying my suspension. When I spoke to people in June and the first week of July which this also went to their escalations team. I was then instructed that I needed to do the non-vehicle account. I did it that very second. And at the end of all of these conversations and at the end of dealing with her escalations team emails and phone calls. And being hung up on and being on hold for up to six and a half hours total for one day. I again was reassured that I would be eligible as soon as the compliance department would send in their reports for both accounts. When I got my eligibility letter in the mail that says fully restored and my renewal from Pennsylvania. I again was elated because I finally thought this was all over. To find out when I got there that it was a renewal for my interlock license because intoxalock failed to do their job and now I have to suffer and lose wages due to not having a vehicle. In the short time that I actually did have the device in my vehicle, it was nothing but problems. I've been sober since my do you, I said that was not the problem. Random things like a noise coming out of it, but nobody could explain. And then having my next driving test after this noise and it's automatically failing me even without having the hand sanitizer being used in my car, which also set it off ridiculously. It even filled my child, who was learning how to drive at the time. But none of this matters because they can't do anything about it. I have to suffer again with losing wages due to their incompetence and neglect. At every point in my life, I always expect the worst to happen and things to go bad because I have the worst luck. I know at every point in every conversation that I spoke to anybody at this company, I asked them again and again what else I needed to do to make sure that I can get my license on time. I know I said this multiple times.
Desired outcome: I want my time retroactive. Due to their neglect and incompetence.
