Macy's deceptive selling practices & b.s. delivery fee

On 08/15/09 at 2:39pm Pacific time, I went online to the Macy’ web site to review the item (“Blair Leather Ottoman in Taupe color”) I wished to purchase. I called the phone number [protected]) to discuss availability and shipping. I was told it would cost $80 to deliver the item to my house. Since the item only cost $299, I asked if they could tell me if it was in stock at a nearby Macy’s retail store so I could pick up the item myself to avoid paying a delivery charge. I was told that I would have to contact each individual store location directly.

Afterward, I called the Macy’s Home Store at the Costa Mesa, California (South Coast Plaza) location. I spoke with “Sue” a Sales person in the furniture department. I asked her if the “Blair Leather Ottoman in Taupe color” was “in stock?” and she said that it was in stock.

At approximately 5:50p I went to the Costa Mesa store to purchase and take home the Ottoman. I met with “Sue”, now known to me as “Sue Munro, Furniture Sales Consultant”, the very same Salesperson I had spoken with earlier in the day. Now she told me that I would have to pick it the furniture item up at the City of Industry Pick–up location. So when she had me on the phone that “the item was in stock, ” it was not at the store location. In fact they keep no furniture inventory at the retail store location. So she lied to me. Why did I have to make a trip to the Macy’ store at all? I knew what wanted. She should have taken my order over the phone and saved me a trip. Clearly, she should have told me over the phone that all furniture must be picked up from the City of Industry location as they maintain no inventory at the retail stores.

Now the worst part is that I, not only do I have to make time to travel to the City of Industry which involves additional costs and probably 2 hours of travel time round trip, depending upon traffic conditions, but as the Salesperson processed my purchase, she told me that I had to pay a “$25.00 Delivery Fee.” Delivery Fee! What delivery fee? They are making me pick up the item myself requiring approximately 2 hours of driving time. I should charge then a time and gas fee

So I have to pay a $25 Fee to pick-up my own furniture and they have the gaul to call it a ‘Delivery Fee.” The salesperson tried to explain that at the warehouse ”they have to take it (furniture) down from a palat.” What? This is a Fraudulent Charge and it is insulting that they tried to charge it me.

This ‘Delivery” fee was never disclosed to me when I spoke to the Internet Furniture Sales Salesperson. It was never disclosed to me when I called in to the Retail Store and spoke with Sue. There are no signs posted in any prominent manner in the store that all furniture must be picked up by the customer at the City of Industry with a $50 Delivery Fee assessed unless the customer opts for home delivery which involves a different, higher fee schedule.

This is very bad business indeed. Macy’s should be stopped from imposing “a delivery fee” when the customer picks up merchandise. They should stop the practice of stating that “an item is in stock” when in fact, they do not maintain furniture inventory at the retail store locations.

I just went to my local macys store to purchase a Liam sectional power reclining sofa for $1899 and just because of the delivery fee "185" i end up not getting it. How many "2000 dollar" customers they lost because of that? At the end of the day, it will cost them more than $185 to keep that item in stock when they could just move the inventory.

We all know that the delivery fee is a rip off because there is no way of getting around it, so why donT they just include it in the price? You see their intentions towards their customers?
I've done more research and here what i found out. In the beginning it seems that they want to sound more competitive with their prices and move the inventory but then i found out that they donT care about selling the items as much as they care about making money on you.
Its your decision if you want to do business with them but if you do at least you need to know this before you spend your dollar with them.

Macy's should be ashamed. A $25.00 charge for picking up furniture? I run a very succesful small office furniture dealership in Oregon. We never charge someone if they want to pick up an item from our location. What a bunch of HOOEY!

I purchased a recliner at JC Penney's in Oregon, it was next to a outlet store that sells only chairs where I went first. I decided to see what Penney's had and they had one I decided to buy that was on sale. I wanted to pick it up, due to the fact if it is home delivered I have to pay Washington sales tax and nobody had the one in the color I wanted in stock. I prepaid for it and was told I had to pay a $50 delivery charge, upon asking why I had to pay a delivery charge if I was picking it up at the store. I was told that I had to pay for it to be delivered to the store, from the factory. I paid it because the chair was on sale and still cheaper than any of the others that I had looked at and it was more to deliver it to my house and I would have had to pay sales tax if delivered to my house.

They get every dime they can squeeze out of you, no matter where you go. One of the local tv stations is promoting a story they will show Thursday at 11 pm about Macy's selling a cz bracelet as a diamond one. I have a feeling that whoever bought it didn't realize that stores sell CZ bracelets in fine jewelry. We shall see, it is the start of sweeps month so they could be twisting the story for those viewer numbers.

I absolutely agree. I just got off the phone with Macy's who advised me that to deliver an Ottoman to my house they would charge me $85. If I pick it up myself from the "warehouse" in Youngstown I would only be charged a $25 "delivery" fee. When I queried why should I pay a delivery fee when I am in fact "picking up" they told me it was because they had to move the item from their inventory center on "Bailey Rd." in Canton. When I advised them that I live less than 20 mins from said road they advised me that I would still be charged the fee because there is apparently a "crew of men who will be waiting there to help me load it"! When I advised I did not require a "a crew of men" to help me load an ottoman she told me that "no one has the authority to waive the fee", and basically admitted that it is impossible to purchase this particular ottoman for the price it is advertised at.

To her credit the customer service rep advised that she fully understood my complaint and "wished" she could help. I suggested that Macy's just jack the price of everything they sell up $25.00. If they'd done this with me I'd have purchased it and been none the wiser.

Silly Macy's...don't TELL people your stealing from them right before you try to steal from them!

Macy's denied check?

So I go into our local Macy's Department Store yesterday to pay my husband's credit card statement. All of that went fine at least for the moment. Had to get skin care products for myself, so I hit the Origins counter. Was sold on a total of approximately $230.00 worth of products. I decided to go ahead and write a check on my personal checking account (the account is fairly new and my debit card hasn't arrived yet or obviously I would have used the debit card). Long and short of it, the consultant rang up my purchases, scanned my check but my check was denied. So I called my bank, they verified that I had WAY enough to cover the check and suggested that I call Telecheck which I did. Telecheck stated that I was good to go and that there wasn't anything on their end that would prevent the check to not go through and that it must be a system problem on Macy's end. I ended up leaving without the products (consultant suggested that I go to my bank and withdraw the funds...not why should I) pissed off. Not once was a Manager called to the floor to correct this. All of this made me late getting back to my own business missing a very important meeting. Once back to my business and my husband checked his Macy's account he noticed that his line of credit on his card had been lowered and also that his percentage rate had increased. I am not certain on the amounts of the decrease in credit line or the increase in the percentage rate. Nevertheless what a rip off. I am uncertain what he will do but I highly suggested to him that he cancels his card (he has been a cardholder with Macy's for a bazillion years). Also when I got back to my office I called their Administrative office at Fashion Square to speak to a Manager about this and how this could have happened. I had to leave a message. I never received a call back. I called several times after that as well hoping that I would catch someone there. Always went to voice mail so I gave up. I know for myself that I will not be back there and will never spend any of my hard earned dollars there. It ended up that another Origins counter got my business and just for the record I spent more (purchased several more products on top of what the consultant at Macy's recommended) at the other location while I was there and my check went through fine through their scanner. So take that Macy's!

Macy's employment

I worked in a non-sales position several mos. I complained of blatant hostile work environment to Macys Corporate, bypassing store HR because I knew she was close to them. Some cowrkrs and my mgr were terminated. I declined very meager severance offer, went back to work to even more hostile work environment, was told it don't look good when people go above store level to complain, then HR denied saying it. New mgr transferred from another store told very serious lie on me and screamed at me numerous occasions, knowing there'd be no witnesses due to remote office location. When I complained again, I was terminated on a fictitious allegation. They even blocked me from accessing the online corporate complaint site so I couldn't retrieve/print my actual complaint that I filed with Macys corporate, so I couldn't have the complaint or other documentation to take to an atty.
Oh, and they also find reason to terminate people once they start using any of their medical or dental insurance.

You guys are preaching! Who the hell are you supposed to complain to if you have complaints about your immediate supervisors? The answer is no one. You are screwed if you go to Corporate. Its easy for them when only a couple of people here and there complain. What would happen if we all got together and made a complaint? They would [censor] their pants when the news hit the newspaper!

Macy's in Greensboro at Friendly Center is managed by a mean, ruthless, nasty woman named Maureen P. I wonder if this is your store? She has been responsible for at least 4 people that I know of being forced out of their jobs due to her constant harrassment and false accusations of poor work performances. These are people that had spotless work records and outstanding preformances reviews up until she arrived. If you ask ANY employee at this store what they think of Maureen you will get an ear full. The crap that she gets away with is basically harrassment and she needs to be FIRED!
She is being led by Teri S. the RVP. It is really Terri's show and Maureen is just a stupid puppet. But still, anyone with any kind of ethics would put a stop to it. It has been going on ever since Macy's took over Hecht's.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with these people but they are giving Macy's a horrible reputation. I suppose they are just miserable people, insecure, frightened, and pathetic.

I hope more people will come forward and get Maureen and Teri out of here! Bring Back the Macy's we knew and loved. Life is too short to have to put up with ### like this.

It's good to see these other complaints. Now I don't feel so insane. The way Macys blatently turns their back on the legal system is amazing.

Macys will take your payments, then refuse your payments. You can send copies of cancelled checks until your blue in the face and they will not care. Trying to take their fraudulent claims off of your credit report is like trying to breathe underwater. It's impossible and Macys should be sued.

I guess they make their money by selling the accounts. I can't even imagine how they percieve this as customer service. They must also donate to the credit bureaus because Macys has no accontability with them. What Macys says...is the gospel.

To the people who run Macys...Do your children know you steal money so you can send them to college? They would be so proud.

Macys is a discusting cancer.

They built their customer base one by one. Now they will lose their customers one by one.

Macy's bogus fee's added to bill

Do NOT, under any circumstances, open a Macy's charge card to get an additional "20% off" your total purchase. Here's what these SOB's are REALLY doing. The clerk is signing you up for a monthly "credit protection service" and gets a bonus for each person who signs up (without you knowing you have signed up!) Here's what you get, a $2.37 mnthly fee to your credit card bill. Don't bother calling the Macy's credit card people cuz they don't care (and are probably in on this scam). They tell you to call the Credit Protection people and have them credit your account. When I asked them how they think they can bill me for something I never signed up for they said the clerk at the store signed you up and when I signed for the credit card, I agreed to it. If I have problems with that I should call Macy's and speak with their manager. They canceled the service and credited back the fee to my card but here's the catch, everytime I use the card the fee appears again so I have to go thru the whole exercise all over! I told them to pound sand and canceled my card. I may never go into a Macy's again. Who do these fricken people think they are? Hopefully my complaint to the Better Business Bureau will bring on a class action suit and anyone that ever shopped at Macy's will get a check for $2.37. I repeat, DO NOT OPEN A CHARGE ACCOUNT AT MACY'S...EVER! Nordstrom has nicer stuff anyway and have gotten a lot cheaper in this bad economy. Hey Macy's people, "bite me - you all suck!" :-)

I want my line of credit back, I have never been late or missed payments and without any notice what so ever they decreased my limit. I am mortified and very angry. I pay my bills on time and even more than I am supposed to, why not go after the dead beats. i had almost 2000, oo on my credit card to use and I was shopping in the store with the concept that I will buy some xmas presents but not exceed at least 150.00, when I went to the counter to pay, I was declined, I said it was impossible, when I called for my balance it was 96, 00, I was embarassed and humilated, how dare they do this to me without any kind of written certification, when I called they said O WELL, , Is this anyway to run a business? I would like my line back and an ap ology as well,

I work at macys when people apply for the card it always ask if you want to sign up for the credit protection it clearly asks yes or no. Its your fault because you didnt read the catch pad, its not a scam if you press yes then you signed up for it. When I do a credit application I always inform my customers what the credit protection is and how it works. So dont blame macys for something you clearly didnt read yourself.

This is becoming a common practice in this economic crisis and credit crunch period; credit card companies are making every attempt to reel in the unsecured money they have floating around. The good borrowers such as yourself are being punished for the banks lending practices, it is unfair, but also completely legal till 2010 when new regulations become active.

I totally sympathize with the offense you are feeling and how righteous you are in being angry, however it is happening to people all over the country many with near perfect FICO scores so you are in a club of sorts. I wish I could give you an answer that would give you some recourse.

Also please check your statement to make sure they have no raised your APR as they have been doing this too.

Macy's overcharged

Please let everyone you know that if they have a Macy's credit card, their interest may have increased to 26.99% in January. They did not send letters out to their customers. There was a note on the January 2009 bill that most customers probally missed. They have lost their minds. Their interest rate is higher than a title pawn.

I had a macy's visa Which i was handling very well. when the card became an American Express card, i had many problems. it takes a long time for their system to update the merchants and balance and most of all the balance is always higher than what its suppose to be. At times by almost $150. I have had my card for years and i have a $10, 000 credit limit but i will make one final payment to bring my balance to a $0 and get rid of the American Express and just lower my credit limit on the revolving type 20, accout which is the macy's store account, to $100. This way i can keep track of the balance. you cant cheat no one who only hase a $100 credit limit
:-)
I wish all the luck to the rest of the unsatified customers.
God Bless!

Macy's macy's credit card

Dear Macys -

As one of your "valued customers" I would like to let you know that I'm not feeling so valued. Initially, I was issued a credit card with Macys for $500. I was doing so well with my credit card, that you decided to give me a $200 increase! Wow! Well, as of recently, I saw that my card had been expired since March of 2009. I waited and waited and waited for a new card to come, but never recieved one.

Today, I went to pay my bill at my neighborhood Macy's store. I was in need of a MAC compact, so I decided to ask the clerk if she could print me off a temporary shopping pass because my new card had not came in the mail yet. She kindly said, "Sure! Let me contact corporate and ask them why you haven't recieved your new card yet." When she started talking to the representative from Macy's named Linda, (which I'm not changing the names to protect the innocent, because none of you at Macy's are innocent right now; plus, there's probably like 2 billion Linda's that work for you) Linda explained to me that I was over my credit limit. I said, "Linda, that cannot be. I have a $700 credit limit, and I'm positive I've only spent $600 or so on it." She said, "Ma'am, with the recent drop in your credit score, Macy's reserves the right to drop your credit limit without notification."

What? Excuse me? Without notification? I think if I should be notified of anything, that would be something to notify my about, but I understand now why you decided to let that little detail slip. In your terms and conditions, you print in size 5 font that Macy's is not at liberty to notify me when you decide to lower my credit limit. This is such a nice trap for you to make some extra cash. And I'm sure the gaggle of lawyers that you have working for you to find loop holes said, "You can get them this way!"

So Macy's, consider me done with you. I'm cancelling my credit card and never shopping at your store again. Making my credit limit drop without notifying me is kind of like magic! Oh wait, that's "the magic of Macy's"

Sincerly,

Stephanie Kurtz

Has anyone ever had issues with finding out what your credit limit is? I think they decreased mine too which i dont mind but one day i called to find out and the rep. said she couldnt tell me my available credit or credit limit just my balance and minimum payment. Other companys dont do that from what ive experienced and i find it wierd and wonder why they do that?

I agree with "Really...now?" It's your responsibility to know what your terms and conditions are. All credit card companies do this and I'm sorry they don't tell us, but they don't have to. Get over it and know what you've signed up for.

Wow all of you need to read terms and conditions that is given to you every year and when you sign up and agree to them. It clearly states that at anytime the company may increase or decrease you based on your outside credit and credit with them. So we were notified. This is a credit card so yes it does matter what your credit is you could have great credit with one company always pay on time in full etc and never pay others or not be paying your car, house etc sorry to say that does affect you. With all the new credit card laws that Obama helped inact you can thank him for this. So writting to a CEO of a company isn*t going to help they can*t go against the law. If it says if a credit score goes below such and such you as a company must decrease said account, it*s going to happen so stop being babies you know deep down your the wrong one and just want someone to blame.

Macy's Credit tactics are stupid I have 3 macy's accounts because they own Kaufman, and Marshall fields now and they have lowered all 3 accounts credit limits without notice! They could have the common decency to at least tell a person that they are doing that I was very embarrassed when my purchase was declined the other day, They lowered my credit limits cause I had some credit issues with credit outside of Macys it did not matter that I had never missed a payment with them in10 years! I have spent thousands of dollars at macys and this is the thanks I get. They don't care they really don't, I could see this if I was late on payments with them but this is not the case. Today I sent a letter to the CEO Of Macys I hope it helps, they are treating people badly that have a outside credit issue. And It dose not matter who you talk to or what you say or how loud you yell at the credit center they say they cant do any thing about it.

When I opened my Macy's account, I was given a credit limit of $100.00. Six months later, they raised the limit to $1000.00. Of course, they didn't tell me this. I found out about that by checking my credit report. So this past week, I thought I had $1000.00 limit, but I went to purchase $187.52 in merchandise and had my card declined. The cashier called the credit department and they informed her that my balance is $317.38, and I only have $13.00 available credit. When asked why this was, they stated that I had had issues with outside credit in July, so they were using that as the basis for lowering my credit limit. This was news to me. I haven't had any issues with any of my credit accounts. I've never been late on a credit card payment or my car loan. It seems to me that they just make up stuff to suit their own needs. But anyway, I was never informed of my credit line being decreased. I will be paying off my account as well as my husband's and closing both as soon as I can.

I never mised a payment with Macys and had a platinum card with a 1000 limit. They lowered it to 360.00. I did 5k in business in a year. I called and complained to their executive office. They were rude and uncareing. They told me because I had a problem with other creditors they were reduceing my limit and may reduce it further. My advice if you credit gets messed up with some other company that has nothing to do with Macys then dont even bother to pay them. For example if you go deliquent on your BP credit card, macys wont like you.

Macy's decreased my limit from $1400 to $200 to $100. I have never been late. Did the 3mos no interest for my mattress and paid it off early. My payment date fell on a Sunday...I didn't realize it until that Monday and I paid it right then. $5.00 whole dollars and they decreased my limit to $100.00 (and I have a gold card).

I made a mistake and overpaid them...now I have a $19.00 credit. Wowwwww...and that still doesn't matter to them.

Macy's also decreased my credit limit. I paid the card off in full each month for 10 months and they decreased my limit from someunknown amount, which they claim was $200 even though I was never notified of this limit, to $130. They claimed that the reason was that I missed one $5 payment. I too will never shop a Macy's again and I cancel my card within the month when I pay my balance in full.

I strongly agree. They have just done that to my daughter. Never a late payment, but she was paying minimum, so they decided that they would cut her credit limit. They have done about three times already in the last few months. Now, her interest rate is going to go up. Enough is enough. she decided to opt out of the Visa. To top that off, I made a payment for her at the Springfield, IL store and wondered why the receipt said REVOLVING. I thought it was maybe an internal thing until my daughter checked her account and they had posted it to her store card. I tried to get it fixed and was told that it was her account and that she had to call. That annoyed me so I told the credit guy that it was MY check and they didn't have a problem accepting it and they didn't have a problem putting it on the wrong account. It took her three calls for the ###s to get it right. She then opted out and closed the Visa. Now, suddenly they fired her for --get this--- for stealing their stinking coupons which are no good anyways. They exclude everything under the sun so they are worthless. I wonder if they were retaliating because we pushed back against their money-grubbing Visa card. Folks, stay away from Macy's and don't waste your time with their coupons.

Macy's deceptive billing practices

I have a Macy's Visa Credit Card. I have a bill payment through my bank. I began to receive bills from Macy's, which I paid through my bank. I receive e-statements only. When I would attempt to pay the amount that Macy's was billing through my bank on the Visa Card, the message was "amount exceeds amount owed" - because I had a zero balance. Then Macy's began adding late charges (even though I was making a $5.00 minimum payment). Finally, I called Macy's and was told that the charge was on a revolving account within the Macy's store itself. I was unaware that there were two separate accounts. I paid the charges, including late fees. However, I was frustrated when I tried to point out that I was unaware of the second account. This is deceptive. My credit score went from 813 to 763. I want this expunged from my credit history, but so far, Macy's is unwilling to work with me.

Macy's is definitely engaging in deceptive billing practices! I returned some items a week after my payment was due. I got an updated balance from Macys over the phone and paid it along with a late fee of $27. The electronic payment was applied and my balance was $0 at the end of Jan 2019. I just received a bill for $2 in interest, for an "outstanding balance" for February 2019. I contacted Macy’s and was told that my payment was NOT received before their billing cycle ended so I would be responsible for the $2 in interest! I explained that I immediately paid what I was told to, and that the billing cycle had not yet ended when they received my payment. The Rep. gave me the same explanation and it turned into an argument, which ended in my threatening to report Macys' to the local DEPARTMENT OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS for investigation of its ILLEGAL, DECEPTIVE, AND PREDATORY BILLING PRACTICES. I know it’s just $2, but it’s the principal of the matter! Immediately, my balance was zeroed out and the conversation ended. This is not the only issue I've had with Macys. They send me bills for items I just purchased but have not received. What is wrong with them? What stupid company is handling their billing? Get it together!

I have the same issue with Macy's. Every time I use my card and pay 100% prior to the next billing cycle I can anticipate receiving the $2.00 statement. Every time, I call and have them remove it. They tell me the reason, I say thank you for removing and we're done. Every once in awhile I get someone that refuses to remove the charge. She will be firm on making me pay it. I tell her to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and hang up. Then I get a statement with the $2.00 removed.
It's a hassle to play this game, but you're right, it's principal. No pun intended.

Macy's is definitely involved in deceptive practices. I had an expired credit card with Macy's was told by an associate that will be renewed on the spot. The next thing I know I have a second credit card.Macy's states that I would have been asked for my income at the time and possibly other information which I surely would not have provided as that would not be necessary to renew my card. I clearly stated that I did not want a new card and Associates stated that they were simply renewing my existing account which was a blatant lie. I immediately cancelled both cards which impacted my credit score.

Macy's unauthorized billing

I made some purchases from the Macy's store in January this year. They had some promotion going, and offered me to become a member to get a discount on my whole purchase. I said I don't want to open a card with them, to which they replied that it's not necessary. I paid for the items with my credit card and left. After three months I got contacted by their collector department that was demanding a payment. Only after minutes into the conversation I realized that he wanted me to pay the amount I already paid again plus a late fee. From his words I opened TWO cards with Macy's and one card has a balance on it I did not pay.

I have been fighting ever since, they had illegally opened the credit cards without my permission and harassing me every day for not paying and threated me for reporting it to credit agency. I have disputed it several time and asked them to show me the proof or signed copy of my receipts that i have asked to open them the cards and paid it using the store card. But ever after 5 months I have no reply from them.

Macy's closed my account

I have had an account with Macy's for 4 years, paid my bill on time every month, paid over the minimum every month, and had credit available. So I was flabergasted when I checked my account online and saw that my account had been closed. I called Macy's, and was told that despite I have never been late, paid over the minimum every month, had credit available and was overall a good customer, that my account had been closed because when they did their "periodic" credit check, that my overall credit history was not good. My near perfect credit history with them was null and void... As a result, this is going to kill my credit score, as this was the longest running credit card I had open and had the highest credit limit... I have already begun my letter of complaints to the BBB, and the attorney gerneral. I am sick of these credit card agencies screwing over people that are trying to secure a future for themselves by trying to get the best credit score they can... Because as we know, you can't get anything without credit these days!

Last Christmas while shopping at Macy's I was making my purchases and handed the store clerk my Macy's card. My purchase had totaled $105.75. I was told my the clerk that my something was wrong and that my purchase would not go thru. I was confused because the card had a zero balance and the last time I had used the card was the Christmas before. The clerk asked me if he wanted me to have him place a call to the credit department and find out what the issue was. I asked him to do so. That's when I found out from the credit department that because I had not used my Macy's credit card in over a year that they had dropped my normal credit limit of $500.00 to $100.00. Ok I say to myself, I know things are tuff in the credit world but here I am trying to make a purchase of $105.75. That's $5.75 past my new credit limit. I asked the credit department person on the phone if he could authorize my purchase this time as it was gifts for my son's and was declined. Even though I was in good standings and never missed a payment with Macy's. I was also told that if I wanted to keep my credit good with Macy's that I needed to continue making purchases with them in order for my new credit limit to be raised in the future. Not wanting to jepordise my credit standings with Macys' as I had held that card for over 10 years, I reduced my purchase by half not wanting to leave empty handed. Needless to say it was embarrissing to me, standing inline during the Christmas rush, with folks behind me listining to me etc.
FYI, I have yet to go inside a Macy's store sense then.. I don't like being treated that way.
So check out on your statements closely. After reviewing my old statements I found that they had informed my of the credit lowering by no use. I just never looked closely enough, as I didn't see any purchases and thought that all was good.

Macy's awful company

I am a very loyal Macy's customer, I have a Platinum Credit Card which means I spend over $1000 with Macy's a year. I am a professional that does most my shopping there when the sales are on. When I travel I even shop with Macy's and have shopped at Macy's in 10 different states.

Sometimes I also shop online with Macy's when I find a good deal. As a Macy's Platinum card holder I am use to free services provided to there most loyal customers. When I buy online I use to receive free shipping for items purchased online.

Recently Macy's has discontinued this practice as of May 1st, 2008 however they did this with out alerting customers. As of July 30 the site does say:

** For free services, which are not available at all Macy's stores, purchases must be made at Macy's with your Macy's Card. Excludes furniture, mattresses, floor coverings, and purchases on macys.com. Credit will appear on your statement.

In some parts of the site it does say the above. However it does say the below on a lot of pages also. Free service purchases must be made at Macy's with your Macy's Card. Includes shipping on macys.com purchases. Excludes furniture, area rugs and mattresses. Credit will appear on your statement.

First when Macy's changes a long standing practice without alerting the customer it is wrong. Second if you are going to change the policy then you have to make sure that it is consistent, as I called in on July 30 and was told that yes of course I should receive credits automatically.

After explaining to him things changed without anyone being notified, he put me on hold and began to speak with his supervisor. After that he explained that it had changed as of May 1st. He also credited my account but explained that it was a one time credit and that in the future the new policy would be enforced.

A lot of customers probably don't realize that this policy has changed. They did not take the effort to inform there customers. Really Macy's should not take this reward away from their most loyal customers.

You both are right. As I wrote to accompany another person's complaint these new "perks" aren't perks at all. I wish we had the old tailoring, free shipping, gift wrap services, that I, over a number of year, worked towards. You know the other thing that gets me? That we can't used the Rewards Certificates online. What the hell?

I am a Macy's Platinum card holder also. I do a majority of my shopping online. It does bother me that Macy's changed the policy without informing the customers. I usually use the gift wrapping service during the holidays but found that 1/2 of the stores I visited no longer offer gift wrap. To me it makes no difference now if I hold a Macys Red or Platnium card. The perks are just are not worth it. Also, the extra coupons that you receive hardly do me any good becuase they exclude just about everything. The free shipping and handling was what I enjoyed most.

Macy's returning merchandise

I tried to return some clothing that was given to me as a gift by an elderly relative. The clothing had all macy's tags on it etc..., and the cashier told me that without a receipt, macy's could only give me 8 cents for all 4 pieces of clothing. Some of it was ralph lauren, nautica etc... She said that without the receipt, there was no way macy's could knowthe clothing was actually paid for! The clothing was not stolen. To add insult to injury, she said they would have to send me my 8 cents through the mail as a certificate — in 4 to 6 weeks! This was due to having to "investigate" the clothing! This is my last time in macy's. I took my clothing and left — it will be donated to goodwill.

Don't go and get someone fired over following the policy, which, if I remember correctly, since I've been an associate, changed around the time of this post. It used to be that yes, you only got the return for the lowest sales price in the last 180 days. HOWEVER, now, you get those Control tags that makes check out longer but we can go back and see how someone paid for an item. With that though, it's only good for 180 days so if you try to return it after that time the 180 day rule applies. AND after a certain point, some merchandise if not sold goes to the price of a $.01 and we are not supposed to sell it. Also, now, this may not be you, but there are people who will try to scam Macy's for money they don't deserve by pulling stunts like this. I would suggest that before you criticize Macy's and its policies, try working there for 6 months and see how many articles of clothing are lost to thieves, damaged because of lack of care of customers, and discounted to a point where Macy's doesn't make money on it. We see a video in training that would change your mind. All that says it if you get or give a gift, give or get a gift receipt.

What a [censored]! Usually even without a receipt, they can either refund you back credit through your Macy's card or give you store credit. Not give you .08 cents. What a ###. Sorry you had to go through that. I've done countless returns at Macy's before and they always give me a refund. You were just unlucky. I wish you called Management and get that woman fired.

Macy's bogus "finance charge"

I received a bill from Macy's that included a $2.64 finance charge, although I had made the earliest purchase shown on the bill only three weeks ago. I called them and they said that this was a "provisional" finance charge, and I could subtract it from my payment although it was included in the amount shown as the balance due. Many if not most consumers would pay the balance due without realizing this charge was added. This is a straight up RIPOFF by Macys!

The latest balance on my Macy's credit card is for $376.94, of which $4.47 is for an "Initial Interest Charge". What is an "Initial Interest Charge"? I pay my balance in full and on time every month. Is it legal for Macy's to add this preemptive charge? Sounds like a rip-off to me.

Macy's macys fraud can hurt your credit class action needed

First off the Macys card is a good deal for most folks who shop there. Most associates just want to do the job and save you money - however if you run into the wrong one, forget refinancing your home or anything else. Here is how some of the dishonest scams work in the stores. You want to purchase something and don't have your card with you - you can be looked up in the system with your drivers liscence and social security number to make the purchace however if you are asked for an additional credit card and see things on the screen STOP IMMEDIATLEY and ask for a manager. You are being put back into the system and your credit will be checked even though you already have a card so that the associate can get a prize. You come and and your Macys card has an expiration date on it that has passed. The associate tells you that you need to be "put back into the system" NOT TRUE your credit has just been checked without reason. A Macys card is always good in the store unless you actually closed it. You think you want to open an account but decide you don't want to hand over your social security number (I assure you its safe) the associate either tells you to put in your drivers liscence number or puts a number in for you. It does not work that way. Again most people are honest about opening your account and it offer really good deals but the bad ones persist even after being reported repeatedly. The also seem to pray on the elderly and individuals who speak less than perfect English. Some of us have paid dearly for being whistle blowers. Bottom line if it does not seeem right insist on seeing a manager or speaking to the credit department on the phone - protect yourself and trust your instints. Hope a smart attorney finds this and gets them to stop

Macy's tear in leather couch

I've noticed a lot of complaints about Macys Furniture and just wanted to say THANK GOODNESS I came upon the post that gave the names of the Tim Hellmann and Kim T. After writing a letter directly to them and sending photos of my defected leather couch, which I owned for 8 months...I just received a phone call stating that I would be receiving a delivery in 2 weeks of a brand new couch! Thank you for your help and Thank you to Macys for doing the right thing! There are people who are willing to listen to you and that want to keep your business.

Macy's have been going around and around regarding my leather sectional. The repair service said it looked like used leather and could not be repaired. Cushions also have a problem. Customer service has spent hours on the phone trying to find all the paper work, inf etc. This is the second Leather sectional they have sent. The first one had a hole. They don't want to take care of it and keep passing the buck. Several promised delivery dates that I took off from work only to be told they had a problem. I have Lost time and money on this one! Sent letter to Terry Lundgren-Chairman. Diane M. who has a lot of time on her hands, spent over a couple of hours on the phone! Even belched out loud and said she just got back from lunch. After all that time with her, she now passed the buck to someone who is out of town for the week. She said it would now have to go to someone else who has more authority to decide. A couple of weeks have passed. Stall tactics. Macy's spends more on returns and staff that don"t do much, instead of them helping the customer! Most of Macy's complaints are over furniture. Customer service really needs to train staff better on how to work with customers. This is what customers should know before they buy furniture from them. I've spent over $4, 000. Problems after Problems. Better Business Bureau cant do very much. Where do I turn to next? Unhappy in Michigan! Not willing to give up! Buyer Be Aware!

Macy's creditor calls/never had account

I have been recieving creditor calls from Macy's/Bloomingdale's and have never had an account. I have tried at least 6-7 times to speak with representatives to explain that my phone number must have been entered in mistake and request the calls to stop but they have continued. This annoyance has continued for three or more weeks and I can guarantee that I would not consider these companies for future credit because of the incompitence already exhibited.

If you have an issue with Macy's contact us and we will be happy to work with you... The customer service number is [protected]... Don't go to collectionstoppers.com because it may be a phishing scam... Always verify the information with a reputable source such as the BBB or the Federal Trade Commission, As far as paying your bills always allow sufficient time for the payments to go through. If we call you by mistake we will be happy to delete the erroneous number on the account. If you owe us money we will collect it... Yes we have to follow guidelines setup by the Federal Trade commission... I work with customers from coast to coast; work with us and we will work with you. Play games with me and you do so at your peril... I believe in being honest and upfront in my dealings with customers. I have received 28 calls the past week from Macy's-Bloomingdales. Everytime it's the same idiot that says "Do you have an account with us?" I tell him no, I don't, never have, never will after this! He asks for my number, I give it to him. Then I get put on hold forever. I tell him they must have a wrong number. Then he starts asking me for personal information and I tell him he's crazy and hang up. They have phoned me repeatedly, and it's on my cell phone which is costing me extra money, and using up my limit allowed.
Is there any recourse?

Yet, the address of record for the cards MCCS is calling about is in Rhode Island and our telephone number clearly is not. In each case, since my wife has a Bloomingdale's or Macy's account, not the one in question, we have wasted nearly hours with Indian and Filipino call center employees attempting to explain that we are not who they want. I'm sorry about your Macy's complaint, but I would BEWARE of collectionstoppers.com. I wonder if the above response was posted as an ad for them (!?). It's only my hunch, but I believe collectionstoppers.com actually is a "phisher" for consumer info (your address, phone etc.) that they may actually sell to debtors (obvious conflict of interest!).
As you say, you don't even have a Macy's account; this is a case of someone having the wrong information. I've gotten these too - it took too much of my time and patience, but I generally asked for a manager and explained the situation and the calls eventually stopped. Very inconvenient, but as you say, there is a lot of incompetence out there.

Go to collectionstoppers.com. You need to ask Macy's to verify this debt. You'll have to send a verification form (which collectionstoppers.com with give you) certified mail but it is worth it. I was getting my neighbors collection calls (they have the same last name & no land line) and collectionstoppers.com helped stop the calls. You can call them and there is no charge if Macy's persist after you ask for verification of the debt, collectionstoppers.com will help sue Macy's free of charge. You could make up to $1500. I highly recommend you take the time to do this!

Macy's no customer service

Warning to all consumers...do not buy furniture from Macy's without reading my story first...also type into Google...Macy's return furniture and you will read stories of one nightmare after another. I wish I had been smart enough to do this before I bought anything.

I should start by saying we went to Macy's furniture in Clearwater FL and needed quite a bit of furniture...we were sitting on folding chairs and using tv trays to eat. We first wanted to purchase living room furniture...the first sofa we picked out was the last one on clearance in the store and was literally sold out from under us but that is not what this is about...we also picked out several other pieces...they had NOTHING in stock.

We went home and finally decided to go purchase a dining set that they did have in stock...they couldn't deliver it for about a week...again frustrated we left the store went home and called Macys.com. They gave us an earlier delivery date on the set and so we ordered it. My husband placed the order and also purchased their 'worry no more warranty' and was told after 7 years you get your money back if you do not file any claims. We paid 165.00 to have it delivered. The highest delivery fee I have encountered on anything. We received the furniture and three days later I noticed the table had scratched. I called Macy's and told them I would like to replace it with something else since my husband and I had only eaten at the table twice and I felt like another one would just do the same thing and the table would only get worse over time. They told me I would have to pay 10 percent of the purchase price, the delivery fees and pay fees to have the furniture picked up and the new furniture redelivered. After estimating what that would cost it came to around 500.00 to 600.00 dollars.

I told them I felt like the table should not have scratched like that and they said would send a technician out to look at it to see if it was a manufacturer defect and if it was I could send it back so I told them fine...they sent someone out, he looked at it for literally two seconds and called them and told them no it was not a defect. Macy's got on the phone with me and he left while I was still on the phone. They said too bad...you should have covered the table up, you can call on your extended warranty and maybe they will repair it. Can you imagine having to have something repaired within 1 week of purchasing it? I literally broke down in tears on the phone...I told her I would be willing to buy a more expensive set but I was concerned about keeping this set but was still turned down.

Macy's does not care about their customers and I will post my experience everywhere I can as well as call the local tv stations and newspapers. My best friend is a very successful real estate agent in the area and I have told her to tell every customer she has and every agent that she knows to beware of Macy's. They said it was my fault and I should keep the table covered, I didn't cover it because I wanted to show off my new table and honestly I don't know of anyone that uses tableclothes anymore. I told her even if you have placemats on the table certain things will not be on the mat such as glasses etc. She said I should have covered the entire table. If you are going to cover the whole table why not buy something cheap? They should have said that before they sold it to me...I told them if I knew their policies I would never have bought furniture from them...the extended warranty they sold my husband is not what they said either...you do NOT get your money back after 7 years. You get a credit towards more furniture and they do not contact you, you have to remember it yourself and have a very limited time in which to claim it. Not what was represented on the phone at all.

I have never been more disappointed in a store in my life. Macy's is such a big name I expected so much more. I now have a brand new damaged table I have to pay for. I wish I had put it on Mastercard I would be fighting the charge but I used a Macy's charge. I am absolutely sick. Just know if you purchase something from them and anything goes wrong they do not stand behind what they sell! Buyer beware. By the way I have bought less expensive glass tables than this one before and they did not scratch. They say it is not a defect so I guess they just sell poor quality furniture, if not why would they not want to make a customer happy and take care of the problem. Remember when retailers used to say the customer is always right? That is not Macy's motto...BUYERS BEWARE!

Get over yourself you crazy consumer. lol. You're acting like you bought a new car and crying about your first scratch. Are you actually reading what you are writing. I just received a check for not using the worry-no-more, they would have put it on my card but I cancelled it long ago. I am not sure how long you waited for your refund for not using it, but it automatically came to me after my 7 years. Life's too short to cry about a scratch.
