Magic Jack does not have a customer service rep when you call, they try to force you to order on their hotline. They tell you it works with DSL, sure, it does, but you still need your phone service to use your DSL, therefore, you still have two bills. one for their product and one for your dsl. If you have a cable modem, then you may want to get it, but if you google: Magic Jack complaints, you may want to think twice, because the internet is full of complaints from them. Which is how I found this site. BUYER BEWARE!

I have had Magic Jack for about five years. I've had to replace it about three times due to the USB attachment being very delicate and breaking off. However, for $20 a year, with all it's little quirks, I still rely on it and it does its job (when my computer is not doing something else, like receiving emails). I order the Magic Jack Plus back in January 2012. It cost me $81.64. The day after I received it, I returned it because although it "doesn't need a computer", it DOES NEED A ROUTER. I sent it back through the USPS and I still have the reciept with a USPS number. My credit card has a suspension on the charge, but I don't know how long they will keep that suspension. After constant "chats" on line, I'm still being told it's "in review". There is no way to contact these people except through the chat lines. Someone has to look into this company's underhanded practices. I have been a loyal customer all this time and they still treat me like slime.

Magic Jack has ripped me off for $81.64 for the PLUS which I sent back the day after I received it in January 2012. They keep stalling and stalling saying "it''s in review". Their call center idiots are liars. There's no "in review". They just think you'll stop botherig them.

My Magic Jack service has expired and I can't renew it without my password, when I sent for my password and recieved it they said that it was not right. I emailed them again and got the same password which didn't work. I need to know what to do?
I ordered Magic Jack and had 30 days to return for a full refund. I sent it back and did not receive a refund. I was charged $81.64 on my credit card. They said I did not send it back in time, however, when I tried to contact them I could only get on a chat on the website. There is no one to contact and there is no phone number to talk to a real person. For 81.64 I have no magic jack device and no refund either. This company is a total rip-off.
I paid my yearly fee in Oct 2011 then in march 2012 the company cut me off and demanded another year fee...
therefore I paid twice in a 6 month span
I was told this was a trial and i would be able to cancel at any time, but when i went to cancel they charged my card again for more money.
I have been using it since 2008 never have a problem got in on 6 years of service for 59.95 when they offered it Awesome deal did not begin using it till 2009 and I have service through 2015 saved a ton of money! I have cable for my internet service, as soon as I pluged it in it went to an auto load program I picked my number and have not had a problem since, I also call forward it to my cell phone so even if my computer is not on I still receive the calls! Awesome invention! I am hoping they are working on a new one to pull cable tv through the phone line if they can pull the phone thing off Hats off to them for saving me a ton of Money!Nothing but satisfied with their services and like I said Get the Magic TV out there guys! Screw these Outrageous amounts of money these big corporations are charging for Cable TV with ### customer service reps who take your $$$$$$ but do not provide great Service! And as stated in another post stop crying and use it like it is intended it is very simple to set up not sure what the crying is all about! THANKS MAGIC JACK YOU HAVE DONE ME RIGHT : ) !
Purchased a 5 year plan. The device broke, I purchased another device. The 5 year plan is only good on the first device, not transferrable. Rip off. Customer service hung up on me twice! Refuses to refund for remainder of time. DO NOT BUY! BUYER BEWARE!
about one time a day i recieve a call on my cell phone in the evening around 8 pm . i have told them i am not interested and to remove me from thier list. i have to be awake at 3 a.m. i am sick of theese people waking me up
call a consumer attorney and see if you state has a telephone consumer protection act. Ohio does specifically applies to cell phones and they can get penalized $$$ per call plus attorneys fees, etc. under the statute.
Bought an Additional year can't renew my subscription, company won't refund what I paid for. And can not use.
Please allow me to use my phone without reminding me that my number is near expiring while I have paid my bill. Thanks.
One hour. that is nothing. this morning and before i WAS a big magic jack fan. Today I spent SIX hours on chat trying to fix an error three problem. You get support and in the past it has been good, so they are still better than HP and so much better than MicroSoft Windows, the worlds more defective product, but still SIX hours. And with each disconnection, they would not pass me back to the previous person so I could continue where we left off. Not a clue these people. I have two Magic Jacks. I have just lost over 6 hours of my life. Zero progress. Neither works. No more. whatever money i saved i just lost. No more. I am throwing my magic jacks in the trash and will use the regular phone service if necessary.

I purchased a 5 year renewal on my magic jack, then purchased a Magic Jack plus. The company refused to move the renewal to my Magic Jack plus, and said I had to purchase an additional renewal-
Aye folks, so much scrutiny going on about the MJ plan, it's OK, to put money in your pocket, but one thing very important which I noted, some ISP DSL works are not equal, some do not work with the MJ, and some do. Find out which ones. Also make sure your computer is working good.
What do you expect real magic? Even magic like turning wine into buz has hidden mechanics, yes solid of dimensional transference. How's that?
Good Luck!
Best thing - pick it up from a store near you (I know of two) who will allow returns for 90 days. Do not get it by mail! Try it. If it doesn't work, return it. Case closed!
I am buying it mainly to call overseas where the costs can be prohibitive. It is not practical to think that most people can do without the Internet, anyway. So, that part of your cost will remain constant.
I just wanted to tell you guys about my experience with Magic Jack. I've had it for about 2yrs now
and it worked flawlessly with my Cable Internet. I've been using it over a 4G cellular network (Virgin Mobile)
more recently and I've noticed a few things...1) The 4G available bandwidth DOES degrade the quality of the call, unless
it's completely dedicated, meaning, I close out my web browser. and 2) I've noticed that Cellular Networks generally seem
to have a nasty tendency of disconnecting ever so often. So, with that said, I LOVE my MagicJack but would recommend about
2 to 4Mbps of dedicated bandwith across a reliable internet connection to really reap the rewards.
FYI, the MagicJack "tunnels" (VPNs) back to a Cisco Call Manager and Call Manager handles the IP routing so No,
the ISP can't charge you for the long distance calls. The Traffic is encrypted. Don't ask me how I know this, just be happy
that I could contribute.
Have a great day!
