Midas Auto repair

Midas Disputes.

September 26, 2022

On July 11, 2022 at approximately 8:00 AM my granddaughter’s car (2014 Chevrolet Impala) gave her a warning signal to pull over immediately. She did so on Okeechobee Blvd. West Palm Beach FL. She called AAA for towing assistance to their nearest approved repair facility. I met her at her car. A police vehicle was there because she was blocking the entrance ramp to Australian ave from Okeechobee. I drove the car followed by the police officer about a mile to a gas station. and waited for the AAA tow truck. The tow truck then transported the car to the AAA approved repair facility. Midas Auto Service Experts (Midas) located at:

2253 N. Military trail, West Palm Beach FL 33409.

I arrived shortly after the car was towed to explain to Jesse Tarantelli, Assistant Service Manager, that the car had been leaking oil and had overheated and I was concerned if the motor had been “blown” since I could not see any oil on the dipstick. He said he would look at it and let me know the problem.

I was called by Midas later in the day to tell me the problem was the radiator and thermostat had to be replaced. The cost I was quoted was approximately $1,900 for parts and labor for both. I was pleased that this would solve the problem but I thought the radiator had been replaced lately. I would check my records and get back with him. I found that we had replaced the radiator about 2 years previous for a cost of $750. He then gave me a “discount” of $525, a reduction of 27% for a total of $1,386.45. We agreed.

I then met Mr. Tarantelli at Midas and paid the invoice for the agreed amount. My Granddaughter then started the car and heard a continuous “clanking” sound. Mr. Tarantelli told her that sometimes the car needed to be driven to resolve the issue since the car had overheated due to the low oil and the radiator leak. As she drove home the clanking continued and I advised her to drive to my local trusted mechanic. The car died as she pulled into Ultimate Auto, Lake Worth, FL. She drove a total of approximately 19 miles.

The next day, July 12, 2022, I was informed that the car’s engine was unrepairable. I called Midas immediately and I was told to have the car towed back to their location and they would look at it. I called AAA and towed it back to Midas that day. I paid the additional towing cost over AAA allotted mileage $41 in cash.

Midas called later that day or the next to inform me that the motor needed to be replaced at a cost of over $5,000. After my complaining about his incomplete diagnosis of the issue he agreed to lower the cost just over $4,000. I told him not to do anymore work on the car and he could take the new radiator and thermostat back off the car and issue me the appropriate credit. He refused. I also offered him the car if he would give me the full cost of repairs he had made. He refused.

I then spent the next few weeks to find the title of the car and a company that would buy the car and pick it up from Midas. I kept Midas informed of my efforts and that again they could take the radiator and thermostat back since it had only been driven 19 miles. Again they refused.

I made arrangements for the car to be picked up and towed from Midas on July 25th. I called Midas and told them the pick up schedule and this was the final time they could take back the parts they installed. Again they refused.

I believe the proper thing to do is to refund me the entire amount of the charge of $1,386.45. This charge was unnecessary considering the fact that the motor was virtually inoperable even with a good radiator. They claim to be “Experts” in auto services. Obviously they are not experts or they would have known the motor was unrepairable. I am willing to negotiate a reason monetary resolution.

I disputed this charge with American Express and this retailer now says the reason the car was undriveable is the timing belt and not the engine needed to be replaced. They keep changing their story!. I would have paid for a new timing belt but not a new engine!

Sincerely, Ronald Chapman

3588 Cypress Wood Ct.

Lake Worth, FL 33467

[protected]@gmail.com

Desired outcome: I would be willing to negotiate a monetary settlement

9/26/2022 The date stated, I went to the Midas repair shop in Middletown, NY on Rte. 211. I know all of the mechanics and the management. I went there to see one of the mechanics when this one mechanic started yelling and screaming at me say to get my car out of here. Then he said that the district manager said he was to notify him whenever I show up here...

Midas Bad service

Saturday, September 17, 2022 @ approximately 3:50pm. There were two (2) techs standing in one of the service bay doors. When I pulled up & got out of the car, the two (2) techs said they were about to close at 4:00 pm & didn't have time to do anything. I said I only needed a tire repaired & they told me they would not be able to do the repair? I have done that work before myself & know the minute amount of time it takes to repair, remount & balance a tire, especially when there are two people standing in sight doing absolutely nothing. They actually referred me to the Mavis across the street I had just left for the identical same sorry service! Not only did I go elsewhere, I bought a complete set of tires for my vehicle due to the excellent customer service received at the start & knowing those tires only had another 10K miles before needing replacing anyway! Not only did your store lose the repair, if customer service had been what it should, a sale & a future customer!

Desired outcome: A response

Midas Customer service issue

on Monday 9/19/22, I had brought in a loose flat tire to be repaired. Upon completion of the repair, I asked the person (Dean Mavrianos) to help me load the tire into the trunk of my car... to which he replied: "no, I will not!" I was taken aback by his reply thinking he was joking. Only when I saw his facial expression, I realized he wasn't.

I have arthritis and severe pain in my joints. Lifting grocery bags inflict a lot of pain but I have no other choice but to tried and lift the 50lbs tire into my trunk.

I have NEVER ever experience this "worst" kind of customer service EVER! at any level. I felt as if I had gone into homedepot and make a purchase and when I asked for help loading to which they replied "hell no! we ain't doing that because it wasn't my job".

I will ensure that all my friends and family make note of the "good deeds" a Midas rep had done for me and I am 150% positive that nearby automotive care center such as CarX, Casey Automotive, and others would provide a much more empathic and caring environment than yours.

Desired outcome: refund

Midas Oil change appointment

Got a notice I was due for an oil change. I called on 09/08/22 for an appointment at 09/10/22 at 8am. Arrived at 7:45 waited for the door to open with another guy. Opened on time, the other person got to the clerk before me so I said to the clerk, I have an 8am appointment and the other guy jumped in saying I'm explaining something to him, give me some room. I wasn't near him. I said that I just wanted to ask if he is going to be on time. The clerk said to go sit down. I sat down, then said if you're not going to be on time I'm going to have to leave. Clerk said "Have a good day". I left! I've been going there for oil changes for about 7 years, or since I went there for an AC leak repair and a charge. Never go there again. I noticed that only once has the same manager been there and that was the 1st 2 times.

This Midas store is located at G-3211 Miller Rd. Flint' Michigan 48507. MY name is Ron Kuchraly, Email - [protected]@yahoo.com

Desired outcome: apology would be nice.

Midas Wheel bearing, tie rods

9/14 went to my Midas repair center for a oil change and inspection. 25 minutes into this service I was informed that I needed driver side wheel bearing and tie rods or it wouldn’t pass inspection. I thought wow never had any idea because there was no noise no grinding nothing. The representative came out with the estimate, 969.00 for everything. I gave them the ok, my wife picked up the car later in the day came home thru the receipt and keys on the table and said it’s got a grinding noise and a clicking noise when I make a right turn

Desired outcome: I want it fixed! I can’t believe the kid who did this repair didn’t hear this noise when ( or if he took it for a test drive).

Midas False rebate claims!

Filled out paperwork online for a rebate gas card, for the purchase of four brand new tires. After the whole process was successfully accepted, and the rebate claim number was given, the customer service department waited a month before saying they couldn’t see an image of my purchase. After resending via email, they said it was too late! Shame on Midas! False advertisement and very misleading false hopes! No more business from me!

Desired outcome: I desire my gas card! I spent almost $800.00 on tires! Poor business practices and poor response timing!

Midas Oil change and brake inspection

Charged $40 labor over the oil blend change coupon of $59.98 without being told there would be an additional 40.02 labor charge upfront.

Was not told upfront that brake inspection would be 39.99. I already knew my rear brakes needed repair.

Window sprayer missing on driver side. Didnt need washer fluid for 1.49.

Current discount of 10.oo for charges over $100 not applied.

Estimate for brake repair for $749 bloated. I got same parts with senior discount for 167.

Initial oil change i neefed was 133 more than double of an oil change.

Taking advantage of seniors is not good business. We have lived in an area for a long time (46 years for me) and know a lot of people, have extended families.

Desired outcome: Return of 40.02 ans 39.95 undisclosed charges as shown in photos. Never saw an estimate or signed anything before it went into shop.

Midas Tire Repair

On 8/3/2022, I Took my 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 to Midas here in Lawton Oklahoma to have a tire fixed due to it having a nail in it. Midas told me that they were unable to fix the tire because it was worn out and that I could purchase a new one for $458.56. I asked the salesman to just pull my truck and that I would take it somewhere else and which he did. But before I departed the store, I proceeded to my truck reached inside my glove compartment pulled out a receipt walked back inside the store asked the salesman at the front desk how could my tires be worn when I just purchased these tires brand new from Hibdon Tires 3 months ago. I also informed him that my truck is not even a daily driver for me, so I departed the store proceeded to Hibdon tires so that they could fix my tire. I went to Midas because it's close to my house. This is the same thing that happened about 11 months ago. I took my truck to Midas and they told me that it needed a water pump and that it was going to cost $1,800.00. I've worked at O'reilly Auto Parts as a Master Parts Specialist, Milo Gordon Mazda (Master Parts Specialist) Western Auto as a Tire Specialist and the list goes on, so if it's one thing I know, it's Automotive.

Desired outcome: I feel like just because I am a female that Midas tried to take advantage of me for the 2nd time, and feel as tho I deserve an apology. I know that I am not the only one this has happened to.

Midas Easy pay financing

I understand you're trying to be helpful in a weird time and there are those of us that appreciate it. However, you need to look at BBB and see the complaints. You may be 2 separate entities however, it will still effect you. They knowingly withdraw funds unauthorized to add NSF fee's and interest. You end up paying more and longer. Withdrawing funds un-authorized is a federal offense. I did my front brakes. $500 and change. Certain percentage paid up front, been making payments since January - I owe $386 still. I think I borrowed from them @ $400. So tell me how that works. They do this with everyone. Read the complaints. Stop letting them screw over your customers or you lose them and right now - I don't care how many stores you have - nobody can afford to lose customers. Look at CVS, Walgreens - losing thousands because of closing stores, cutting hours. You may not have a say in who your managers hire, however, this you do.

Desired outcome: Fix what Easy Pay is doing or find a better way to help people make sure their cars are safe and reliable to get to work, kids to school, themselves to school.

Midas Oil change

I took my car in for a oil change on 7/ 09/2022 and they told me I needed a new oil filter, but they didn’t have one for my car so they ordered it and I waited over an hour. Once the part finally arrived the technician put it in 10 min tops and I was off. I saw some steam from under the hood for a day after service. I started seeing a low oil indicator when I drove so on July 30th the indicator came on a few times while driving so I checked under the hood and there was settled oil by my engine and there was no oil on the dip stick it was none dry. I need my vehicle to run and I paid for a service that was not done. I am very disappointed that when I try to call Corey they send you to the complaint line and you have to wait 48-72 hours for someone to call you back to resolve this matter not cool at all. I want my money back I will never go back to this company again. I’ve given them my business through the years I’m very disappointed.I have video evidence to support my claim.

Midas Breaks and rotors

I went to Midas to get my front and back rotors and brakes replaced on my car. The next day my hub cap fell off and there was a burning smell from my car. When they initially worked on my car they didn’t tell my I needed a new caliber which should have been mentioned but never was. I took my car back to them to run a new diagnostic and they said I now needed a new caliber and front wheel hub and bearing. I did not trust their diagnostic so I took it to Browns Automotive. They said I needed new both right and left calibers and new breaks and rotors because they have been burned thru which is causing the shaking. Not the front wheel hub bearing like Midas had diagnosed. I have full coverage on my breaks for a year but Midas then said they will not take any responsibility after I mentioned legal action.

Midas Very poor workmanship but adept at price gouging

My name is Trevorr Smith. The following event happened to Lisa Pearce and me while fixing an exhaust system issue in my Nissan car. I was in the process of selling my car to Lisa. We were getting the Nissan ready for Emission Testing, so that I could transfer my ownership over.

On June 10, 2022 Trevor and I brought the Nissan vehicle to Midas at 450 Bronson Ave., Ottawa, ON K1R 6J6 to have its exhaust system repaired; it was running loud due to an exhaust issue.

The Midas technician inspected the Nissan and gave us an estimate of $480 to fix the noise problem. The estimate included a new flex hose and an extension pipe that needed to be welded. Two hours labour to complete this task was included in the estimate.

The repair took approximately 20 minutes to complete and the final invoice was for $603.00. During our drive home, the Nissan ran quietly until the muffler fell onto the road. This caused more damage to the car and almost resulted in a serious car accident.

We took the Nissan into the closest garage we came to. It was a Speedy Auto Repair shop at 540 Bronson Avenue, Ottawa, ON. The muffler replacement job at Speedy cost $400; the estimate we got from Midas for the same job was between $700.00 to $800.00.

Further to the Speedy technician's assessment of my Nissan's exhaust system, it was noted that the work done by Midas was not the work Midas claimed to have done initially. The flex hose was new, but there was no extension pipe; there was only patchwork done instead. We were charged for new parts that were supposed to be welded in as part of the initial job. As it turned out, we were charged again for the welding. We were overcharged because this welding was initially included with the flex pipe and exhaust hose installation. The Speedy technician said that the job which Midas did, should have cost $200.00 to $300.00 instead of the $603.00 we paid.

In Summary, there was more work needed on the exhaust system and now there are more problems with the vehicle due to these existing issues as outlined above. I want a full refund on unnecessary labour costs, parts, and compensation for the anxiety and fear caused by this situation.

Desired outcome: Total refund for unnecessary labour charges, parts, and related damages.

Midas Oil change incompetence

Had Midas change oil (Grand Chute WI) next day noticed oil all over the driveway looked under & it's leaking oil, the oil is all over bottom of engine, inside the wind cover & all through the frame. so checked the oil & found chunks of rust the size of a grain of rice all over the dip stick, It looks like they only changed part of the oil because it's still dirty does not look like fresh Valvoline.

The so called mechanic was too lazy to even wipe his hands before putting on new filter I can see his hand marks on it.

Imagine a place that's so incompetent they can't even do oil changes correctly would you want them doing engine work? Or even changing tires?

In today's world it's hard to to believe places like this can stay in business, the list of people they screw around the country is unbelievable! Do yourselves a favor save the stress & stay away from these places!

Desired outcome: Actually train your mechanics beyond junior high mechanics class. We don't know the engine damage yet but our lawyer will

Midas A/C Repair

We were charged over $1,600 to repair the AC of my 2014 Hyundai, was told the car would have excellent air, it never happened! When we picked up the car, the air was barely cool, it was almost the same way as when we dropped it off. On top of the repair, we were charged to inspect the AC and were told we needed a compressor, then a condenser, the following week we returned to have the AC inspected again, I was told by Sam, Midas in Allen that they refilled the freon and that it should be working better, NOT TRUE! He asked me to give it a couple of days and I did. Today, I contacted Midas again because my grandchildren are extremely hot in the back seat of my car, Sam said to give him a few minutes and his dad Alex called me to tell me it was under warranty and to return again, which we do not have time to be going back and forth, no one has time for this! As it should have been repaired correctly from the beginning! I am extremely and really upset over this issue. The summer just started and I can't imagine driving in over 100degrees with a hot car after paying over $1,600!

Desired outcome: A full refund to have it repaired elsewhere.

Our complaint is about the store on east main street in columbus ohio.We took the suv in for a squeaking belt that was heard..a day later we were quoted a price of 2200.00 they assured us that was the problem. we picked up the car the next day..the air was not working at all. and the noise was still present. Mind you we already paid the charges.

We called and immediatly took the suv back..within 10 minutes at which time the manager looked up underneath it and said the drain hose was just clogged..could we bring it back once again and he will unclog it..We did and to make a long long story short they did not unplug it..they said it needed more parts..then they said the noise we were hearing could be a power steering pump but they were not positive..that would cost over 500.00 more.. they did not have a clue I then contcted the area manager that was listed on the receipt. He wanted us to bring the car to him at another store in which we said no..They had many opportunities to fix it..he then was very rude and said I guess we will see you in court and hung up on me..I have never seen service such as this anywhere ever!

Midas Oil change appointment

I went online to schedule appointment (6/17/22) and never received a confirmation. I went to the Midas that I have been going to for years and was addressed in a sarcastic tone of voice. There was one customer in front of me and they were serviced to get an oil change. I was just there in Jan. 2022 and got my car inspected with other services done which cost me a lot of money. But to be treated like they did not know who I was and to accommodate the person in front of me was disrespectful. I left and took my car somewhere else and was immediately serviced. Therefore, a good customer was lost.

Desired outcome: That person who was disrespectful should be addressed on how to treat good customers. I deserve an apology; it will not change my mind in returning.
