charged twice for update
I have had a great deal of trouble installing the Norton Anti Virus 360 and have now been charged two amounts on my Credit Card. My emails have been returned.
On my bank statement it shows DRI Symantec Generic www.myord.com have been paid $52.84 on 26/5/09 and $50.93 on 30/5/09. I understood that I was to be charged $49.99 as I only required one Norton Anti Virus. I have attempted to contact them but without success. Could you please advise me as to what I should do next. Thank you

"free" upgrade not free at all
I bought Norton 360 2.0 in March of this year. I installed the software, registered it with Symantec, and it was working and doing its job just fine. I had received several updates to the software (as expected for virus recognition, etc).
Last month I received an email from Symantec offering a "free upgrade" to Norton 360 3.0. The advestisement emphasized that since I was a registered license holder, I was eligible for free software upgrades.
My assumption was that I would get the "free upgrade" and when the year on the license I purchased expired Symantec would bill me for the next license. Obviously, I was mistaken. The upgrade install eliminated my Norton 360 2.0 software and installed Norton 360 3.0 on a thirty day trial basis, and asked me if I wanted to purchase a new software key to keep Norton 360 3.0 working.
This certainly was deceptive advertizing. It isn't free when you have to buy a new software key. I wrote directly back to Symantec by email complaining about this practice and have not heard a thing from them since. I will reinstall the Norton 360 2.0 on my laptop, but once the license expires you can be assured I will find some other security software for my computer and it will not be Symantec.

I'm sorry, AVG Free virus protection is free and the AVG Free PC repair (optional) is free for 24 hours and then you have to purchase it.
AVG Free is only free for 24 hours and then you have to purchase it.
Norton used to be a good company. Now Norton comes pre-installed on nearly every computer with a 'Trial Version' and when it expires, you are unprotected. I repair computers for a living and I truly believe Norton is awful software. It is ineffective as protection and deceiving for unknowing PC users.
I remove Norton's 360 Trial Version on 90% of the newer PCs I repair because the PC is infected with viruses/spyware.
If you currently have Norton installed, I recommend browsing to google and typing in 'Avast Home' or 'AVG Free' for solid free Virus protection then uninstall Norton(free for home use only, businesses must pay for the software).
Great free spyware scanners include 'MBAM' by Malwarebytes, 'Spybot' by Safer Networking, and 'SuperAntiSpyware' -all free for home use.
Free software does not mean it isn't good, it just means that you are using a free version of paid software or they make money from donations.

fraudulent billing
I found Norton's Anti Virus to be inadequate, so I switched to another company. In the meantime, Norton has continued to automatically bill my checking account event without my authorization. Every year, they bill my account. Every year I ask the bank to reverse the charge. Every year I call Norton and they promise not to do it again.
I believe that Norton is running a fraudulent billing scam.
Does anyone know what governmental agency will handle this matter in California?
Sounds like a class action lawsuit for some attorney.

Received Norton anti virus renewal for a computer that no longer works at my new home address. The renewal is unauthorized and must be illegal to bill former customers for computer software services for a non existent computer.
Sincerely,

CON CONSUMER AND GET RICH
many anti virus companies are making their own virus and and sending them through hackers. And later on they cure it with their package. Some companies all and sudden stop updating. When the customer reports about this their agent comes and tells you that due to some defect in computer it has been corrupted. So you have to go for the new version by paying an inflated amount. There are companies who do not have the annual renewal system. But their marketing partners charge annual renewal fees which is against the basic principles of the mother company. The after sale service of most Anti-virus companies specially in India is simply disastrous.
There is no corporate ethics, swindling is the basic agenda. There has to be some regulatory authority to monitor these unethical and criminal practices. In my view the company against whom a defined number of customer complains are lodged and the company does not respond to that WWW/GOOGLE/YAHOO /NETSCAPE should ban them remove them under the charge of unethical commercial practices

I am the victim of a computer hacker, who has interfered with my emails, sent mails on my behalf, and caused me to delete this Norton from my system. I have evidence that ianallcock@hotmail.com has sent emails purporting to be sent by me.He has also used casachumco@hotmail.com to collect mail.(note the CHUMCO).Ian has been throughly dishonest, he gave me the disc, knowing at some point he could carry out his subversve activities.I am shocked beyound belief, as he is my son.Surely, he has broken the law, I never had an inkling until days ago, that he had indulged in this terrible intrusion onto his parents pc.What, if anything, can be done to stop him again with anyone else.
Decided to update the security package with them. I was online to do this with representative. He remoted to my laptop to help me. It took almost 45 minutes. Once it was done, I stayed online for 30 min and shut it down. When I went online again, I couldn't even sign back on. Now, I can't sign on to the website to cancel the whole thing. It's already cost me $75 for the service and none of my emails are getti g through. norton has already charged my account for $49.95 for screwing up my computer. Can anything be done to get my money back?
I am trying to get hold of Norton Security for a refund of money they took out of my account for internet security, I am already secured with Kaspersky and am very satisfied, I do not want Norton nor have I asked for it, I can not seem to get anywhere and can not find any contact details, all the details I get seem to be dead ends, I wonder if you can help me with this problem, looking at your site I see a lot of people have the same problem, surely this should not be alowed.
i bought my laptop, a fujitsu, which had norton pre installed on a trial basis which has now expired each time i try to uninstall it my laptop crashes and i have to restore it which brings back norton. i have downloaded, from the internet, the uninstallation software but the problem persists. i dont want norton on my computer but my prefered security software will not load while norton is in place . i need a solution to my problem, there must be a way to remove it
I paid $49.99 for my Norton Internet Security extension key on Sept 21, 2017 and was out of the country until mid'November. I was surprised to get warnings that my Norton program was not activated. I called to find out why and after talking to a technician he fixed whatever, apologysed and said that I would not be charged, since the fault had been theirs. Now I found a charge of $74.99 posted to my account on Nov 20. If charge is not withdrawn, I'll contest it. L.B.B
I had a Trojan invasion and was referred by Norton to PC care for resolution of the problem, which took around 4 hours
I had a second invasion that was resolved by PC care
I had a third invasion by a registry bug that left me with a black screen and had to take the computer to the geek squad for resolution. Because of 3 invasions in such a short period of time, with two of them occurring after paying the Norton recommended PC care - including the one that completely decommissioned my computer, I have changed my computer security protection to the geek squad and Kaspersky. I would like a way to get financial satisfaction from the foreign based PC care company of the $300 paid for a multi year protection plan or for the period of my Norton subscription that will not be used and was paid for, because of the reasons listed above. This was a major disappointment, after being a loyal Norton customer for many years. Reply requested, but honestly not expected with the unexpected poor protection rendered to me over the last few months.
Be advised that my Norton Internet Security was renewed on January 25, 2017, under order number [protected]. On viewing my Visa statement received today this program was automatically renewed on February 7, 2017. I have been double billed for this program. It would be appreciated if you would credit the automatic renewal that is on my Visa account immediately. I did not authorize for this automatic renewal especially to be charged to my Visa account. Please advise as to what action has been taken in solving this problem.

I purchased Norton Internet security in June 2017. I submitted my rebate paperwork and received a debit card for $30 that was supposed to work anywhere. After trying to use the card at the gas station, grocery store, on the internet, etc., I gave up. I planned to use it to renew my Norton subscription in 2017. My attempt to use the debit rebate card failed as Norton does not allow 2 forms of payment for 1 product. The outsourced tec suggested I purchase something for $30 or less. I explained that I did not want to purchase anything else. He gave me a number for the rebate center which did not work. I then called the number on the back of the card. I was told the card only worked for purchases of $30 or less and my current balance was only $12 as there was a $3 monthly maintenance fee. The rebate clerk also referred that I was stupid as not to have known about this as it was spelled out in the pamplet sent with the card (in microscopic fine print). So, after years of using Norton products, I am bidding them farewell. What a ripoff!
I bought Norton Internet Security under the pretense that this rip off company would rebate me $40. I was scammed... as they told me that my UPC was missing from the envelope. It was not ! I thought something like this may happen so I scanned all documents included in my envelope to them including the UPC. They told me it was not in the envelope and the scan of the UPC was not good enough. What is the alternative?
This is a flat out scam and would like to know how many others they have scammed?
Do not buy anything from this company...with blatant scamming methods like this can you really trust and feel safe with any of their their products?
Robert L
@ OP
You mention you have a subscription with them.
You do know that there is a setting in your norton account that reads "auto renew subscription".
the fact that they billed you means in the past you had norton and Failed to unsubscribe before switching to Kaspersky.
this is only based on what your telling us.
as for contacting them if you go to the norton site and select your region then you can find in contact us their contact information.
infact here i went to the norton site to find the information. https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/info

constantly fixing norton / slow updates don't work
I am fed up with Norton 360. I bourght this product in January with a new laptop with Windows Vista on. Since then I have been through support technicians 4 times for the following reasons:
Updates won't complete
Emails not covered by virus protection
It has been uninstalled and reinstalled every time. Now it keeps taking me out of the internet.
Each time I switch on the laptop I am not sure what I am going to be faced with.
Can someone please help now or else I am going to uninstall the product and get another anti-virus programme.

product does not do what it is supposed to do
So I bought Norton AntiVirus 2009 to prevent virus' to protect my computers. A month or so in to using the product I found out that Norton AntiVirus missed a virus definition. So I tried to update the virus definitions manually. Couldn't do it. So I contacted Norton's chat room. Below is their response. Essentially, they said they could fix the problem for $99.99. Unbelieveable, I only paid $79.99 for the software to begin with, and now they want to charge me more. Below is the "chat" conversation I had with them.
I WILL NOT BE PURCHASING THEIR PRODUCT ANYMORE FOR MY HOME. I WILL ALSO TELL ALL OF MY FRIENDS & FAMILY NOT TO USE NORTON. IN ADDITION, I WILL ASK MY HUSBAND TO HAVE HIS COMPANY TO USE ANOTHER SOFTWARE.

~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:13:22 PDT 2009)>>
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:13:24 PDT 2009)>?
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:13:23 PDT 2009)>There are several possible reasons for this:-
1. The infected file is active on your computer;
2. It is "embedded" into your browser (such as an Add-on) or into some other running software/application;
3. The infected file has "assumed" system file status/rights and hence it cannot be deleted simply.
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:13:25 PDT 2009)>Your Norton software attempts to override these; however it is not always possible, since we adhere to various software standards, some of which can only be set by the Operating System.
These are possible reasons, but the actual reason will only be known once a detailed diagnosis is completed.
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:15:11 PDT 2009)>What is the point of buying the Anti-Virus if the software doesn't do it's job? And now you want to charge me for something it missed?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:16:44 PDT 2009)>So if I pay extra today and then Norton misses another virus tomorrow, am I supposed to pay again tomorrow?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:16:59 PDT 2009)>And again the next day and the next?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:17:12 PDT 2009)>Come on...
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:17:40 PDT 2009)>Norton is protecting you from tens of thousands of existing malwares and from the hundreds of new threats released every single day. It provides among the best security that is available for your computer.
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:17:49 PDT 2009)>This particular infection could have been caused while subscribing or downloading from free websites or when you download/transfer files such as movies, songs, screensavers, games, etc. from other computers, such as in a P2P system, or from insecure websites.
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:17:50 PDT 2009)>Normally when you download something, it will ask for your permission to open/install, and accept the license agreement.
When you do so, being the administrator/final authority of the computer you are potentially authorizing an override of the security restrictions in place.
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:18:44 PDT 2009)>And as an average user, how am I supposed to know what can and can't be downloaded?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:19:07 PDT 2009)>Isn't that the job of Norton Anti-Virus?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:19:21 PDT 2009)>Isn't that what updates are for?
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:20:24 PDT 2009)>Every day the virus' are ever changing.
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:20:34 PDT 2009)>That is why I bought this.
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:21:07 PDT 2009)> Colleen, there is a fixed fee for this premium service.
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:21:13 PDT 2009)>When you purchase the product, the cost of the product is for software, updates to the software and for virus definitions. There is an additional charge for value added services.
~Mrs. colleen (Mon Apr 20 23:21:56 PDT 2009)>IT CAN'T BE UPDATED!
Shrenitha(Mon Apr 20 23:22:48 PDT 2009)>This might be due to a possible infection in your computer.

Signed on for free update for 2009. I couldn't download the product. After working with "it" for two days, I called a technician to help me. He couldn't download it either. I then paid for the 2009 program figuring that if I paid, the download would be successful. It was not so then we called wherever it is you people are and still could not resolve the issue. After, over one week, since Norton erased my 2008 Antivirus, I have no virus protection. I am requesting that you credit my Mastercard for the amout of $48.98 that I paid on October 31, 2008. Thank you, Tony
I purchased Norton Antivirus 2009 on 2/8/2009
which did not download so I am without "Protection"
I only wanted one Norton antivirus 2009 and i have been billed for two of them. I also have not received anything in the mail. I got a 15 day trial version downloaded online. I have not gotten anything else.
This software was loaded on-line on 5-7-09. Immediately, my PC operations, namely Internet log-on, log-off, etc., slowed to a snails pace. I had to have the operating system reconfigured by an advanced computer consultant, IMW in Orange, CA.
I was informed to renew. I did, order#[protected], however when trying to download or activate I am asked for a renewal code. I don't have a renewal code. It's not in the e-mail I received although I am led to beleive it is? please help.

Heslin, I have just installed Norton 2009 as an upgrade and am informed my Anti-virus definitions are 301 days out of date, what is this nonsense, who are these software writers. Past computer problems on downloaded files from Norton have introduced problems and reduced communication processing and internal programing malfunctions. I will now look for alternatives regarding anti-virus software. I will not download anymore so-called updates.
fraud
I have just received a unauthorized charge of $49.99 to my credit card by Symantec's autorenewal system. Yes I had Norton a long time ago on an old machine but kept aquiring viruses so eventually had to scrap my machine and get a new one. Due to dissatisfaction with the Norton product I opted to use free programs from the internet far more suited to my computing needs.
Due to the economic situtation, my family lives within a stringent budget. The timing of this unauthorized debit to my account has accrued to my account a total of $140.00 in overdraft charges. These charges are pending at the moment and I have conacted my bank about what has happened. In response, they have offered me a contact number to Symantec to see if I can resolve the situation with them.
I called the number given by the bank and was kept on hold in excess of forty minutes. I finally gave up waiting at 9.24 pm. I will try again in the morning.
Wish me luck.

I have used Norton porducts since I had my first computer and even recommended the product at my work place. They have sent me a DVD to solve the problem of the computer not allowing me to use Backup and Norton will download my virus and spyware definitions regardless of what I or they do. Frankly I am at wits end on this and like alot of others will be forced to look else where for my protection. This is certainly not what I want to do but what is necessary when I am not getting the service I expect. Let's get it together Norton. The ball is your court.

download loop
We order and paid with cr card Norton 360 for 3 computers. After completed the first down load the program could not erase in our computer the previous version of Norton: it entered in a continuous loop displaing this note: "Prevous programs erased, please Restart your computer". This step was automatically repeated 11 times. Finally we proceeded to make a Shut Down. Results: we lost this Norton 360 download and also the previous version of Norton, with no oportunity to repeat the download. In a fully disgust with Norton we proceed to purchase from your rival McKafee but...what hapenned? Norton blocks its downlad. Somebody shall solve this problem. We wath and await.

unauthorized credit card charges
There had been many complaints off late on symantec norton's unauthorized debiting of consumers' accounts. I had to call in recently to one of their call centres in india to get my automated charge off my account. Watch this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqO7i1s3-2g for more details on a recent credit card scam exposed in one of the norton's call centres.
Read full review of Norton and 18 commentsunauthorizedauto-renewal charge
One day, an auto-renewal charge of $42.79 popped up in my bank account. I don't remember authorizing any kind of auto-renewal on my account when I purchased virus protection last year. I'd love for someone to explain how Norton jusitifes charging almost double the NEW PRODUCT PRICE for auto-renewal? I'm made their lives easier, certainly don't waste in their manufacturing process, and require virtually NO marketing effort (I ALREADY HAVE THE SOFTWARE!), yet they feel they can take further advantage of that situation by sneaking in an auto-renewal? I'm tempted to purchase an entirely different virus protection software because of this tactic, which will make my voice heard in a much more subtle and effective way.
Also, if you should call the toll-free number on your credit /debit card statement, I hope you have speaker phone and unlimited minutes. I waited over 30 minutes to speak to a CSR. I did arrange having the charge removed -- make sure you have your email address to which the renewal was associated, or the first six and last 4 of the credit card number, or you'll be calling back. It will be 36 hours before I find out if I get my money refunded, though the CSR said the refund is now in progress.

charged twice
After receiving TWO different confirmations that I had renewed my Norton Antivirus subscription, I wrote and responded to their tech support four times explaining that I thought I had been charged twice, but was out of state and could not verify my concerns. I received replies to my email messages, but they did not take the steps to stop a double charge to my credit card. When I returned home this weekend, I was able to verify that I HAD been charged TWICE.

In November, 2017, I decided to install some better protection for my computer. I agreed to a Norton installation, and paid by my Mastercard credit card. This was debited to my card account on22nd November 2017, being US $53.98 (Australian $90.00)
I have just had my computer in for a service/check up, and the technician advised me that I had no 'safety' on my computer, and no sign af any Norton Security products.
I have now another security device installed, and would like the return of my money, namely $90 Australian.
I shall not be reticent in informing others of my troubles.
I am an aged pensioner, and life is hard enough without this sort of problem, and the loss of my hard saved money.

Norton's customer service team regularly leave you waiting in the phone queue for an absurd amount of time.
Lately I have been left on hold for 55 minutes and 45 minutes respectively before giving up, with the phone never having been answered.
I finally got an e-mail address to complain to and have not had a reply in more than a month, despite four e-mails.
Norton's anti-virus software seems adequate but their customer service is by far the worst I have encountered at any company. They make it extremely difficult to file complaints and they simply ignore them when they receive them.

Exactly same thing happened to me. I think it is a concerning issue that a company we are support to trust and protect us against viruses is actually taking money from Paypal with out my authorisation. I have no intention of using Norton ever again as a consequence. It worries me because this is the first time this has happened to me
Not impressed at all.
Yes, last year they took my money from my credit card without consulting me. As I was going to renew anyway, I didn't complain but I have recently had 2 e-mails supposedly from Norton - it might be a scam for all I know - demanding that I update my credit card or I will not be automatically renewed and this could cause a problem. My renewal is not until February 28th 2016. Whybare they so desperate to get their hands on my card. I have changed cards since last renewing but from having read these other posts I am most certainly NOT going to opt for automatic renewal in the future. They can send me a reminder and then I will renew like always happened in the past. Or - aas this is making me uneasy, I will probably not renew at all. Alwyas thought they were a trustworthy company but this seems like decidedly shady dealing.
If Raj believes what he says, because he is a technician for Norton, then either they've disposed of BitDefender in the past 6 months, or he is not aware of Symantec's long list of companies.
For the benefit of those who are having problems with Norton or Bit Defender, for that matter, both companies are part of the Symantek Corporation, whose Head Office address is:
Symantec World Headquarters

Mountain View, CA 94043
Phone: +[protected]
For Your Information: It is possible to leave comments on Symantec's website, but regardless of whether you leave your name/address etc., in the hope of a response, don't hold your breath or keep your fingers crossed, as I doubt they'll care what you have to say or how badly Norton or any of their software companies have treated you. They don't give a damn. I have yet to write them by snail mailwith all the problems I had of their previously excellent Norton 360 gobbling up my maintenance software, from about 8 month ago: having ignored it for the previous 5 years! I have learned from experience that if you have maintenance software that has similar maintenance functions to some of their own (added on over the years) (i.e. not virus related), that they will use their Antivirus software to remove it's executable files and destroy it! Never mind that they had ignored it in the past!

symantec uses third parties to find your new credit card numbers
Symantec uses a "billing update service" through many national banks to find out the new card numbers and expiration dates of your credit and checking account cards. Even if you have an entirely new credit card number from the one they have on file for you, if the old card is through a bank, they can find your new one and charge it without your permission if you have auto-renewal selected.
I received an auto-renewal notice saying my card on file (a card I had replaced a year ago) was expired and that I needed to provide a new card to them or risk losing protection. Well I did not want to renew, so I gave no new card. I assumed that was the end of it. A week later I received a "thank you" email from Symantec saying they have successfully charged my NEW card, that I never provided to them. I was horrified that they found out my new card number without my permission and CHARGED it.
The customer support tech (who was actually very nice) explained that Symantec uses a "billing update" service provided through major banks to find the new account information of existing customers who have "selected the convenience of auto renewal". Apparently they are so dedicated to our convenience that we don't even have to give them our credit card information. They will go out and find it.
She wouldn't elaborate, but I'm pretty sure her supervisors wouldn't let her. The old card on file was a debit card but since my checking account number is the same, they used this "service" to obtain my new card number associated with my checking account. Which means they have access to my checking account info! I am horrified. This is the equivalent of digging through someone's garbage and stealing their information.
Needless to say, I am horrified that I was sent an email asking me to give a new card, and when I did not... they went out and hunted it down and CHARGED it without permission.

cannot get subscription renewed
I have filled out the application to renew my 360 Norton security for my PC. I still have not received the download. What is worrying me now is that the credit card company asked me if I have ordered this service, apparently Norton or Symantec Store has charged to me card. I can't get into my email because I continually receive threats of disasterous PC failure if I don't act quickly. If I could get into my email I could delete most of the contents, but since I can't get in the emails ontinue to grow. I need help, I have asked for help several times, but since my email is full of blocked I can't see if any instructions have been sent. Can you give me some by phone ? This is the first time I have ever had trouble renewing my security subscription. Glenn

billing
I have not had Norton in over two years, yet you keep billing my credit card (without my permission) for renewal. Norton does not show up on my computer, yet you want me to pay $51.99 for something I don't have and don't want. I pay $70. a year for McAfee. I want this issue resolved as soon as possible.
Thank you.

I have been getting a notice on my computer for about a month now that my subscription was expiring. I hit renew and than it said it was renewed and nothing more needed to be done. Kept getting expiration notice so ignored it until a couple of days before it expired and renewed it again. Again it said I need to do onothing ahd then it just expired. Tried everything to get it renewed, and it looks like I have it renewed, plus another invoice that says that I have ordered the 2009 version. The order number [protected] is for 2009 version and total of $66.98. The other invoice order number [protected] is the renewal for $48.98. Please credit my account for $66.98. This has been a total nightmare trying to get it renewed, and no telephone number anywhere to talke to someone. Please respond.
unauthorized charges
This morning I renewed my annual Norton Internet Protection service. The cost to renew is $49.99
15 minutes after renewing, I logged into my online banking & in the pending charges were 3 separate charges from Norton!
Two fees for $49.99
One fee for $59.99
That's $157.97 dollars.
That's $109.98 more than verbally discussed.
The person that helped me was Pavankumar Munnalal Shrivastav from Symantec Support.
I spent over an hour with someone on the phone that could not correct the situation before being transferred to his supervisor that offered the same rhetoric nonsense.

Norton AntiVirus automatically billed my debit card without authorization from me and I don't use the antivirus anymore. How can I get my money back?
In August 20 I was billed two times for a Norton product when I only downloaded one on my computer. I had begun the process of downloading and had given my credit card information when I was disconnected. I then got back on line and tried it again. This time everything worked and Norton was downloaded onto my computer. When I received my bill the other day I had been charged twice for the cost of $89.98 instead of only one Norton charge.
Please fix this and take the additional charge off of my credit card.
Thank you,
Garie Jean Brownrigg
