State Bank of India [SBI] review: very harsh and unhelpful customer service! 237

This review was chosen algorithmically as the most valued customer feedback.

The customer service has been very harsh and has not been helpful. They are rude and often end up giving wrong information to the clients. For eg. I dropped a cheque in one of their ATM in Bangalore and the amount was not deducted from the statement. When I checked with the customer service they told me that they don't pick up the cheques from the ATM. Immediately I issued a fresh cheque and made the payment but my previous cheque which the bank promised me that wont be picked up was also used. And when I call the bank they say that they cant help it. There were several other incidents like this.

I have been using sbi card for the last six yrs. They blocked my card two times without my consent and without any information to me. When contacted, they sent me a new card both the times. This time they have not sent the ATM pin for the new card whereas the new card has been recd. by me about two months ago and my request for the same also has been pending with them for the last one month. I have not been getting my monthly statement too for the last four months inspite of many reminders on phone and every time getting assurance that the same would reach me within seven working days. I have been perturbed by their services and would never advise anyone to use sbi card. Services are very poor and harassing.

I am a regular user of SBI card and did not have any problems for the first 1 yr. I had then asked for a loan amount of 2,51,000/- and this was approved over phone. After 15 days I had found out that they have sent the DD to the wrong address. I lodged a complaint and they had canceled the demand draft against my name. But at later point when I found out that the loan amount was canceled against my name, but the interest charge of 93,000/- was levied against my card. Now I am following up for the last 2 months and still they have not got rid of the interest component on the card. I am charged with EMI for the loan amount I have received. I had called up their customer care around 8 times and still the answer would be that the issue would be solved within 5 working days.

Currently do not go for any loan or balance transfer through your SBI card. Once your in trouble, it is rest assured that you will not get out of the problem. SBI credit card division is run by GE finance and SBI is not bothered to check the functioning of its credit card division.

If any one can help me on how to approach this problem, kindly mail me at maheshjayanth@yahoo.com

There was a wrong transaction shown in my statement for the month March-2007. I have been following up with the customer care since then till date and also sent the duly filled forms required for settling the issue but there has been no action taken from the SBI credit card until date and now the credit card division employees are harassing me to pay the unsettled amount. I am really stressed from the situation and I want to know if there is anybody who can be helpful to me in such a situation.

Thanks in advance,

Naresh Surana.

When i got sbi credit card, after one week i received one demand draft of 5000 rs as a scheme... I sent it back to the address given by sbi card customer care executives b'coz i did not want 2 use that one then also since last 3 months i m getting 5000 rs as a purchasing amount in monthly statement. Even though i have not used that amount then how would i get these statements? Also i already paid monthly due b'coz of their mistakes... And also they r asking 4 the payments of which i have not used...in this way they r earning... They should update their systems... They r cheating people... If i'll not get the solution 4 my problem i'll take the help of police and customer protection cell. Alos if i'll not get the response then also i'll take strong action.

And i advise the people do not take cards of sbi. They r cheater no 1 of india...

Hi,

The SBI credit card is the worst one I have ever come across. Anything about them, their service, call center personnel... everything is the worst. I had not even signed a credit card application form and now i have phone calls coming in from all sorts of idiots asking me to pay the premium for some insurance policy. Every time when I explain to them that i have not even applied for this card i get the answer we will look into it. next day I will have some new guy calling me. Now the latest one is last week i got a call from someone who was saying that unless i pay the premium they will file a case against me. I would love to see where these guys are going to take things to. I believe something needs to be done to teach these guys a lesson.

I am very unhappy with your cards. I am much relived by surrendering your cards. Your administration is very rude. For petty amounts you have charged hefty amounts as penalty. Your mailing system is very poor. For eg your bill for Aug came after your letter to pay the money immediately or otherwise face the legal cell. The due amount is a petty sum of Rs.964.02.

Now I have paid Rs.964 thro a cheque. May be you will still send a legal summon for not paying Rs.0.02.

I have unnecessarily paid about Rs. 3000/- as Penalty, other charges, interest, and Protector Policy premiums etc., It is a waste. So I am surrendering my below mentioned cards. The Cards (each cut in to two) are enclosed herein.

Again and again imposing the Anual charges for facilitating me the Credit Card where at the time of Applying they were telling that that it is life time free. I have not deposited the annual fee for current year but bank is imposing the interest on the same.

SBI credit card customer service is a worst service in the world and it’s located in Chennai and Gurgaon (Delhi) who do not know English and they do not know how to speak to the customer. If we call for SBI helpline first they will act like taking complaints and they will act like anything at the end of the call they will force to buy some products like Balance Transfer, Insurance and Easy Installments. They are very good cheating peoples trained by GE, they never bother about customer’s problem simple they will tell we are taking complaint but finally customers will be the looser. Please do not loose anything will you calling SBI helpline.

They will speak like anything please does not buy any products through SBI helpline and also there is a big story behind SBI Credit cards. Actually GE is the total controller of this SBI credit card only thing they are using the SBI name and also GE paying some commission to SBI for using their name. In this deal SBI name going down and the Indian government as to take strong action against GE credit cards customer service people. The exact reason is GE wants to earn more profit that’s why they are forcing the customer service people to sell products through helpline.

SBI did not inform me about the activation charges. But they are charging me Rs 500. If I know this earlier I would not apply for that card. Really I don't want that card also. while I called customer care they are irritating me.

I have canceled my credit cards on 10 th may by calling customer care, but i receive monthly statements even though there is no due to pay from my side. I have received 2 months statements even after they said they have canceled the card.

I approached the bank and the bank people say we have to cancel the card by calling customer care. But do the bank people know that the actual way of canceling a card is by accepting the cards which are cut diagonally and acknowledge the receipt for that.

SBI Cards...named for their worst customer service in the world. FOR GODS SAKE... PLEASE DO NOT GET SBI CARDS.

I requested them to cancel the card 6 months ago, but I keep getting monthly statements. I don't have to pay any payments as I haven't used their card after seeing these blogs in the site.

Recently I changed my mobile number. I started getting calls for every 15 minutes. For first week, I patiently replied that I got this number, please don't call. But these stupid guys keep calling every 15 mins.

I completely lost my patience in responding softly to those brainless stupids. Last I have to change my number again...

By reading this blog... at least now stop using SBI Card / do not go for SBI Card in your life time...

It is very shameful of SBI bank-malad west branch... i am truly disappointed!

Harassment calls from the Sales and Collections department, morning to night. Will not spare you even on Sundays.

Despite paying in full every month and never carrying forward a single Rupee, they insist that the amount has not been paid. Even after a stop payment advise to the bank, a registered mail with the new cheques to the Head Office, cutting the card into small pieces and requesting a cancellation of the card, no respite.

The calls simply go on and on and on. And they even call my mother and keep harassing her. Non stop. Nobody knows what to make of this because the office is in Delhi and I am in Bombay. So, they have a free pot shot at you and there is nothing you can do about it.

Thuggish ugly behaviour from SBI. Avoid their card at all costs.

The worst creditcard in world for GOOD PAYING CUSTOMER is SBI CREDITCARD FOR THE CUSTMER SERVICE. I regret to had it. The govt of india owned bank is working only for the employees, i have yet to see any honest and helping officer in whole of SBI.

THE BANK AND SBI CARD SERVICE DO EVERYTHING OTHER THAN HONEST BANKING. CHEATING TO THE CUSTOMER, THREATING/TORTURE/ ABUSING AND MISLEADING IS THEIR OFFICERS HOBBY.

I have received my SBI credit card 4months ago, in my 1st statement they have sent me Rs 600+ bill. I did not made any purchase at all. I made a complaint against this bill to the customer service centre chehnai, when they called me for their services. till now i made only single purchase at petrol bunk worth Rs100/-. Due to the !st bill, which showed higher payment, i did not pay the bill. I again spoke to the CS centre and told them about my wrong billing, CS executive told we have recorded your complaint and will look into the matter. But till now i didnt get any reply or message regarding the faults made by SBI CREDIT CARD. Also they told that it is life time free card, but they have been putting high bills and sending me the messages to my mobile phone. I am not getting my statement regularly, unless my grievances are not cleared i would not be in a position to pay my bill 1st bill also.

Dear Friends,

Let me share a recent article published in TOI on dated 8th Sept'07.SBI has leased its brand name only to GE with royalty of 60% of profit rest of show managed by GE. Surprisingly to share they dont have any mechanism for customer redressal.

So, let me summarize SBI licensed GE private entity to rob its customer in the broad day light with the disguise of brand name SBI.

I and my friend both have SBI Credit Cards. Normally my friend gives me money and I used to give him a my bank cheque for his credit card payment. Last month in the same way I gave him a cheque of Rs 3000/- against his credit card number, surprisingly the amount was credited into my SBI Credit card. I have all the proofs that the cheque was issued to his credit card number. When I call the customer care they are speaking very rudely and just simply saying that it is not possible. And on the other hand they are going on imposing fines in his credit card and not giving any solutions to the issue.

Sir,

Sub: SBI Card – Discrepancies in the Monthly Statement – Rectification – Requested – Reg.

Ref: SBI Card “Monthly Statement” dated 09.09.2007
-- -- -- --

Reference is invited to the ‘Monthly Statement’ cited on the subject mentioned above.

In this regard, I am to state that in my correspondence dated 05.02.2007, the original SBI Credit Card has been surrendered to your reputed Firm, since I am not willing/interest to continue, to be a member in the SBI Cards & Payment Services Private Limited.

Further, I am to add that the total outstanding balance as per statement dt.09.08.2006 stands Rs.6,191.24/- only and the entire amount has been remitted for stipulated time vide Cheque No.384168, dated 25.08.2006. Thereafter, I have neither purchased any commodities nor withdrawn any amount by utilizing the Credit Card. Hence, on my part no due is pending for settlement. The above fact has also been intimated by my subsequent correspondence made with you and also informed through Phone. But, your authorities concerned have been assured to me, in future any statement is not sent to my address.

Whereas, in the ‘Monthly Statement’ dated 09.09.2007, it has been found as if I have to pay a sum of Rs.1,559.68/-, through any transactions have been made by me and also surrendered my Credit Cards, vide my letter dated 05.02.2007. The present statement gives me much shock and mental agony. Hence, I have no other way except to proceed legally, if the discrepancies are not been rectified by your authorities concerned.

I hope and trust that the authorities concerned will take appropriated steps to rectify the error caused in this regard.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

(A. DAMODARAN)

am getting sms stating some outstanding debit balance in respect of a Credit supposedly issued to me. I have never used any Credit Card of any bank what to talk of SBI the biggest commercial bank in India, profiting from every commercial venture pushing customer care in the dustbin. Every time I opened my mail box I have tried to see the bill/ statement annexed to the mail. But that requires the CR Card No, what I don't possess. I am a small customer, continuously maintaining my savings bank account with your gargantuan bank for last about 25 years now. Even after my retirement I have chosen SBI as my banker regarding pension. I shall be obliged if any one could verify what for this statement showing ever increasing debit balance is shown in periodical sms that are sent to me. One thing I wish to express here that since I have not enjoyed any of your services towards Credit Card I shall not make any payment in this respect unless you convince me with legally acceptable documents or you adopt the practice at times being followed by some Private sector banks by engaging muscle power for snatching money from me. Expecting some reply & thanking you,

I received sbi credit card but soon after the receipt i am receiving phone calls from sbi credit regarding the outstanding payment towards me. On my query the calling official informed me that the amount is against the payment of the draft of Rs.20000.00 send by sbi credits to me, I was surprised on the query because I never received any draft of such amount, so when I told the fact to the officials every time they called me thy always informed me to register the complaint to the helpline number. Even after my complaint and the intimation from the helpline number that my complaint has been forwarded to the concerned cell I again received the bill by post for the payment of the outstanding against the draft amount which I never received. Now I am frustrated and I am unable to understand that how sbi credits can ask anyone for such fake payments.

I have a SBI CREDIT CARD. I don't receive the Monthly Statements. After repeated reminders one statement was handed over to me by their local agent which shows strange entries such as Insurance charges, Late fees, Over limit charges, cheque collection charges, inflated interests, other admn. charges etc. Surprised I contacted one Mr. Sudershan in the Company's Customer Care Dept. He accepted the wrong entries and settled the dues at Rs.870/ as full & final settlement and promised to send me a Zero Balance Statement. I paid the amount promptly. But the Statement as promised never reached me. Further, I am receiving disturbing, arrogant, unhealthy telephonic calls from their Collection dept. at Delhi to pay further amounts. What should I do. Please advise if anybody can.

I have not been receiving my statement since last few months and there has been calls from the customer service to pay the outstanding which I used to make on ad hic basis but last month I made it a point to callers that unless I receive my statement I would not pay. Instead of statement I was surprised to receive aletter warning me of a legal proceeding. This month again no statement was received but i paid on ad hoc basis. Could someone please let me know my course of action ?
