Service during contract duration
I had a 3 year warranty with Select Home Warranty. It was to expire on June 5, 2023. On May 31 2023 I filed a claim on my dishwasher. On June 12th someone came out to look at the dishwasher. I called to get an update about a week later, and multiple times after that and was told "your policy has expired, and we need to get it reinstated so we can pursue finding the replacement part". So even though the claim was during the contract period, they sent a repair person for diagnosing the issue (after the contract expired) - to receive the deductible - and then would NOT work on getting me the necessary part and ultimate fix. I asked the reps, so you take your car in because the engine blew up, during warranty period. BUT it was not fixed by the time the warranty period was up, so the repair stops! That is illegal and unethical.
FOLKS, STAY AWAY from this company, they are TERRIBLE with regards to holding up their end of the contract.
Desired outcome: I have since ordered and replaced the part. Select home warranty needs to reimburse me my $45.00 deductible, $149 part with shipping, and $25.00 labor.
Hot water heater & hvac system
This is the worst warranty company in the world. When I signed up with this company, the rep told me everything that would be included in my plan. However, I have called them twice & each time I called, they told me that my items were not covered. I pay them every month thinking that I was covered. All the reps that I have talked to have me misleading information every time. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Also, after I got services with this company, I asked them to send me a copy of my contract. They kept implying that they would. I didn’t get a contract until like a week later after consistently calling them. I wish I never got services with them in the first place.
Desired outcome: All the money I ever paid to this company.
Home warranty- The Air Condition
I made the mistake of believing that select is a decent and honest company. I discovered, to my regret, that select is the furthest from being honest or decent.
The AC stopped working in the hot climate of Arizona. I called them and it took them 5 days to send some one to check it. The man did come and demanded $ 100 only to tell us that there is a leak and therefore it is not covered. That was a lie. I called another person and he found that the freon needed topping.
I cancelled my contract with them last May and they charged extra money for cancelation. This left about $ 270.00 from my money. They sent me an email in June 5th. stating that they sent the check and that I should have it within 7 days.
It is now July 9th. and still no check. During this waiting period I called them so many times and emailed them and each time they told the same lie, that the check was sent and that I should receive it soon.
Warranty
On July 7, 2022, I signed a 3-year contract with Select Home Warranty LLC to cover my appliances. On Fri, Jun 2, 2023, I submitted a claim to fix my washer. On Monday, June 19th the technician arrived at my home to replace the parts which were sent to me by the warranty company. The technician was not able to repair the washer as the part was defective and another required part was not sent to me at all. I contacted the warranty company multiple times asking them to send me new working parts and fix the unit but do not get any feedback from them. The only solution they offered is $200 which is not enough to replace the unit. Considering this, I asked the warranty company to terminate my policy as I do not get any help from them and reimburse my prorated payment which I made when bought this policy. However, the representatives of this company keep saying that they will charge me for the parts even though the part was defective and another required part was not sent to me. I agree to send the defective part back to them but they refuse to accept it and want to charge me for it. It sounds like fraud from them because they are sending the defective part to the customers and refusing to get them back.
Desired outcome: New or fixed washer
Home warranty
On June 4, 2023, I called into Select Home Warranty to advise I was having sewage blockage on one side of my house. I was advised that there were no technicians available to come out and someone would be escalating the issue to find a local contractor. On June 5, 2023, I received their response that they were still in the process of locating a service prover and if I had a contractor, I could request to use them. Being new to the area, I did not have anyone available. In the meantime, my family and I checked out of the hotel and returned home in hopes of getting a technician out soon. Three weeks passed and there is still no service provider. I than reached out to SHW again on June 23, 2023, and spoke to Raymond “supervisor” and was told he would escalate my issue. I told him I was able to find a contractor that could come out and went over the authorization and requirements needed to be covered under my policy. My Technician Nick spoke with the authorization department and advised there was sewage blockage in the bathroom. After the diagnostic was given, Nick was advised the repair would be reimbursed at $500. He advised the job would cost $681.84 and I was advised by SHW that I would need to pay the difference. Nick also advised SHW that because he worked for Rotor Rooter, payment would have to come from the homeowner. The representative then advised me that I would be responsible for the $181.84.
On June 27, 2023, I called to check status on claim and obtain information on how to go about requesting the $500. I was giving the run around for hours. I finally spoke with Canice “CSR Supervisor” who advised me a resolution was made and my reimbursement would be $200. I requested a itemized claim to determine how SHW came to this amount after advising my technician it would be $500. I was advised that I am unable to obtain a copy of how my claim was adjusted or paid out. I have currently been on hold with them going back and forth for the past 4 hours and still no understanding of how my claim was adjusted so low. SHW provides consumers with home warranty plans when they have no plans on paying out. Three hundred dollars is a huge difference and what was previously approved and if you call them out on it, they would either cut all communications with you by not responding or have you left on hold for 4+ hours at a time. SHW needs to honor their initial approved rate of $500. Anything less would be fraudulent and a slap in the face.
Desired outcome: Reimbursement in the amount of $500.
SelectHomeWarranty: A Nightmare Experience - Not Worth Your Time or Money
This company is not worth your time or money. We have had a terrible experience with SelectHomeWarranty and we wouldn't wish it on anyone. Our guests have had to suffer through a broken heater/AC in our guest area and it has been a nightmare. We reported the issue over a month ago and they have done nothing to address our claim. Every time we call, they promise to have a supervisor call us back the next day, but they never do. Their customer service team is almost impossible to understand and they seem to have no idea what they are doing. We have invested a lot of money into this "home warranty" company and we are regretting it more and more every day. We are only two years into a five-year warranty and we are seriously considering switching to another provider, even if it means taking a financial hit. This company is utterly useless and we would not recommend them to anyone. The B- rating they have must be a joke because they are terrible in every way. We have even resorted to calling them daily just to get an update on our claim, but it is always the same unhelpful response. Their latest offer is to cover the cost of the part only, which is not very generous considering how much we have paid them. We urge you to think twice before signing up with this company. They are at the bottom of their league and we wouldn't wish this experience on anyone. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else.
Beware of SelectHomeWarranty: A Total Rip-Off and Scam
I gotta tell ya, SelectHomeWarranty is not the company you want to deal with. They straight up lied to me just to get me to sign up with them. And when I needed to use their services, they were a total rip-off and a scam. Let me tell you about my experience.
First, my garbage disposal broke down. I called Select Home Warranty and they told me they would only pay a fraction of what it would cost to replace it. After nearly a month and a half of calling them, they finally gave me a measly $75. And get this, they said their "resolution team" came up with the estimate for the repair. What a bunch of baloney!
Then, my garage door started acting up. I oiled it, but it still wasn't working properly. So, I called Select Home Warranty and they sent someone to take a look at it. I had to pay a service fee of $60, but the technician said the motor was bad and it would cost $485 to replace it. Minus the service fee, that's $425. But guess what? Select Home Warranty said they would only pay $150. That's not even close to what it would cost to fix it! And their website says they provide "peace of mind" and it's as easy as reporting a claim, assigning a local professional, and repairing or replacing your covered item. But my cost was over $300, which is not minimal at all!
But here's the kicker. I took a screenshot of their website that said they would "repair or replace" my covered item. When I called them out on it, they changed the wording on their website to just say "repair." And get this, it happened within an hour of me talking to their reps and escalation team! I couldn't believe my eyes, but I had the screenshot to prove it.
And here's the thing, they'll tell you that the amount they're offering you is based on the item's depreciation and it's in the policy. They'll even give you the exact number right off the bat. It's like they've memorized that section of the policy or something.
So, my advice to you is to be careful with SelectHomeWarranty. They change their website wording from time to time, so keep an eye on it. And don't believe everything they tell you. They're just out to scam you and rip you off.
Select Home Warranty Review: Disappointing Service and False Promises
I've been living in my home for almost four years now and I thought it would be a good idea to get a home warranty. I left messages with four different companies and was surprised to receive a call from Select Home Warranty early the next morning. The sales agent offered me their top-of-the-line warranty, the Platinum plan, which would cover my roof and septic tank for a certain amount. They also offered me a better deal of $1200 for three years with the same coverage, so I decided to go with that plan.
However, just two and a half months later, my soft water system went bad. I called Select Home Warranty and they made an appointment for me, but I never received a call back. When I called them again, I was told that this was not covered under my warranty and that I would have to pay an additional charge. I was frustrated because I was told that this was their best plan, but it turned out to be B.S.
I was called back several days later with an okay deal, and I decided to pay for an additional three years, bringing my total to $1364.94. I made another appointment for my water softener to be repaired or replaced and even gave them the make and model of my water softener. However, I waited almost two weeks and never received a call back. When I called them again, I was told that they did not have a company that could do that in my area and that I would have to find my own licensed company to replace my water softener.
I was frustrated and waited for around three weeks before calling them again. I told the customer service representative that I wanted my money back, period. When asked why, I explained that I was unhappy with the service I received. The representative asked who told me that, and I explained that two different representatives had told me that my water softener was covered under my warranty. I was told that they would take a percentage out of what I paid for early termination, but I told them to do what they had to do and that I would do what I had to do.
One thing that really bothered me was that Select Home Warranty takes your money right away, but it takes 30 days for them to return your money. This was B.S. and I would not recommend Select Home Warranty to anyone. I have all of my paperwork from this company and will keep it. Paybacks are a mother!
Select Home Warranty: False Advertising, Terrible Customer Service, and Scam Policies
This company is a total scam! We had a broken garbage disposal and they said they would give us $75 for a replacement. But the actual cost to replace it would be around $400-$450. We are extremely unhappy with this resolution and it has been a real challenge to get clear and correct information from the call center. I have called so many times and each time I have received terrible customer service. It has taken an absurd amount of phone calls and time to get anything done. Even the plumber had to wait on hold for 2 hours when he tried calling to report his determination that the disposal needed to be fixed. I have been told multiple times that I would be contacted by a manager within a certain time frame and have not been contacted.
We feel totally misled by the false advertising on the site and the salespeople that we worked with. One of the salespeople even charged our credit card without our consent so we were ultimately charged twice for our policy and it took almost two months (7 weeks) to get reimbursed. The site says "We'll repair or replace your covered item. You pay a minimal service fee. Simple as that." and the contract specifically says "this agreement covers all modules, components, and parts of the garbage disposal necessary to the functionality of the garbage disposal". This indicates that items will be repaired or replaced when necessary. But then the contract has the caveat of section 8 that says Select Home Warranty does not have to cover something if it's irreparable or not cost efficient to fix. This basically allows Select to avoid paying to cover any claim submitted because nothing is "cost effective". I understand that we had 30 days to cancel our policy once the contract was sent to us, but we were under the impression that Select would operate in the best interest of the homeowner and didn't think we had to read through the contract that we didn't even have to sign to verify that the claims made on their site were true.
The plumber that came out to our house agreed that this is something that home warranty companies typically cover.
When I finally was able to speak to a manager, they gave me an email address and said that there was nothing they could do and probably wouldn't be able to get help by emailing the back house but to try. I tried and explained this whole situation and received the following response: "We are in receipt of your email. Please contact us at ***532 option 5 to discuss your claim." This does not resolve ANYTHING and is frustrating because that's the number I've called MANY times that ultimately told me to email.
I want my garbage disposal covered and I want my money back from this company. It is just awful and frustrating.
Select Home Warranty Review: Worst Home Warranty Company - Don't Waste Your Money
This company, Select Home Warranty, is the worst home warranty company I have ever come across. If you like giving away your money and receiving nothing in return, then this is the place for you.
We have been having AC issues. Our address was marked with "ave" instead of "lane". It took 6 days to fix that issue. After reading the agreement to the contract that the sellers paid for, they don't cover installation. If anyone knows anything about air conditioners and furnaces, half the price is for the units, and the other half is labor. Oh, and if your units need to be replaced, you better have maintenance records from the past 3 years of that unit, and if you can't supply those documents, they will only cover $150. Because you know, people have their systems serviced when things are working perfectly. And if you make it past all that, they use depreciation on said item. ACV = $$$ - (0.07 &&& 15). So if my unit cost $2600 and it's 15 years old, it would be ACV = 2600 - (0.07 2600 15). Basically, anything over 15 years is worthless. The customer service is ridiculous. They will straight-up lie to you to get you on the phone. I called in 4 times about my address change. Each one stated the old address then stated they fixed it. Luckily I kept calling in to see if it was actually changed. Oh, and if you want to speak to a manager or supervisor, good luck. They seem to "always be on another call" and won't call you back like promised. Get used to hearing "24 to 48 hours" because every time you call in to get a status update, that's all they say.
If you do have to have contact with this company, always ask for their employee ID or extension. They will say it's against policy but yet, won't provide you with the documentation that states that.
This company is not accredited with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU. They will try to say they are because they get rated on a numerous amount of things, but after checking the BBB, they are not.
UPDATE: The root cause of our AC issues is there is a leak in the condenser. Select Home Warranty won't cover to replace the condenser because it deals with Freon. Their policy states they cover condensers but then states they don't cover Freon. My issue isn't with the Freon, it's with the condenser, but because Freon is leaking, they said it's not covered. Can anyone give me an example of an issue a condenser can have that doesn't involve Freon? Just goes to prove this company is a fraud and will find any way they can to make sure they don't have to pay.
P.S. The reason why this company has so many 5-star reviews is that they will give you 2 months of "Free" service if you write a 5-star review. Free service of nothing being covered is still valued at $0.
In conclusion, everyone is better off going with a different company (or none at all).
My Disappointing Experience with Select Home Warranty: A Warning to Others
I'm writing to share my experience with Select Home Warranty (SHW). I had a contract with them that was set to expire on April 17, 2022. However, I extended my contract with them until October 2025 after a phone conversation with them in January 2020. The salesperson said it was a special deal, and I received an extension of six months for free because I signed with them immediately on the first day of my contacting them.
Unfortunately, my experience with SHW was not a positive one. In July 2020, my hot tub needed repair, but they did not provide a repairman, so I had to find my own. The repair cost me $800, and they only gave me $400 per their contract. I also had my built-in microwave stop working, and again, they did not provide a repair person, so I had to find my own. The charge was around $350, and they only gave me a check of $125 as they chose to depreciate the value of the microwave instead of repairing it.
In November 2020, my furnace would occasionally turn on, keep running, and not shut off. I called SHW, and this time they sent a repairman who said it was the thermostat. They notified me that I needed to send them pictures and provide them with three years of maintenance records. I had the furnace serviced just two months prior to this problem and sent them the pictures and the maintenance record done just two months prior. However, I could not provide three years of records as we use our propane fireplace as our main source of heat in the winter, and we service the furnace every other year. I was given a check for $150 for a $400 repair job.
I was disappointed with their company and asked for a refund. I paid them a total of $2,663.83 for both the original contract and the extension. However, they proceeded to use faulty accounting with regard to my refund. They took all the money from the so-called repairs ($400, $125, and $150) plus an administrative fee of $75 and a pro-rated fee of $1.94 per day and sent me a check of $10.87. This is in accordance with the contract, but I feel they owe me $1,488.84. All monies should have been taken from the original contract money, not just the extension.
I have filed a complaint with the Consumer Protection A.G. Office State of Maryland, the FTC, and BBB New Jersey. I hope that others can learn from my experience and make an informed decision when choosing a home warranty company. Thank you for reading.
Sincerely,
Ronald Abigill
Select Home Warranty Review: Beware of Loopholes and Denials of Coverage
I decided to give Select Home Warranty a try after reading some positive reviews online. I was impressed with the coverage they offered, including protection for appliances and roof leaks. I thought to myself, "What could go wrong?" However, I soon found out that signing up for their 5-year plan at a discounted price would have been a mistake.
I opted for a one-year contract to test the waters. Everything was fine until my refrigerator broke down. I was relieved that I had a home warranty, as that's the reason why I purchased it in the first place. I reported the issue immediately, and they assured me that they would find a technician as soon as possible. However, a week went by, and I didn't hear anything from them. I had to find my own technician and pay out of pocket, even though I had asked Select two days prior if finding my own technician was an option. The person on the phone hardly spoke English and kept laughing, saying, "We are looking for the soonest available technician."
I hired a reputable appliance technician to come out and take a look. He confirmed that the refrigerator was going out due to age (it was a 16-year-old Whirlpool). I called Select Home Warranty with the technician present to give the diagnosis over the phone. He explained that there was a hole in the evaporator causing a sealed system leak, and the compressor was going out. However, Select heard their favorite loophole, "sealed system," and replied, "OK, we are denying coverage." The Select representative sounded very happy, which was offensive. The technician looked very confused. He had never heard that response about a sealed system from a home warranty before. Sealed system is the one exclusion on Select's refrigerators, and it's funny because that's what everything runs off of.
The technician and I continued arguing with them that it was due to age and the hole in the evaporator. However, Select didn't care. If you say anything about "sealed system," you're out of coverage. I told Select that I didn't want the repair to the sealed system; I needed a replacement unit like the technician said. However, Select didn't care. If you ever say the words "sealed system," it's over. I asked them, "So if someone has a fridge, and it goes out simply from age and everything possible fails on it, including the sealed system, you're saying you'd deny coverage because the sealed system also goes out?" Select responded, "Haha yes ma'am that is CORRECT!" I said, "I'm sorry; I'm just lost for words right now." It was offensive that they had a happy/positive attitude about denying me any coverage. It was like they were gloating about pulling the plug on my warranty coverage.
I continued to argue with them, but they kept telling me that my case was denied. The unit went bad because of age. The evaporator and compressor were bad, but because the sealed system was mentioned, I was out of a fridge. They offered no assistance at all.
I would advise looking for a warranty that doesn't attempt to get out of covering basic functions of a unit. I used to have Home Warranty of America, and they replaced my 20-year-old A/C unit when it went out from a freon leak in the sealed system. They may have awful reviews now, but they were much better than Select Home Warranty.
Select Home Warranty Review: Frustrating Experience with Denial of Coverage for Basic Functions of a Unit
I decided to give Select Home Warranty a try after reading some positive reviews online. I was impressed with the coverage they offered, including protection for appliances and roof leaks. I thought to myself, "What could go wrong?" Well, I soon found out.
I signed up for a one-year contract and everything was going smoothly until my refrigerator stopped working. I immediately reported the issue to Select Home Warranty and was told they would find a technician as soon as possible. However, a week went by and I heard nothing from them. When I called to follow up, I was told they couldn't find a technician. I was frustrated and disappointed that they didn't bother to inform me of the situation.
I decided to find my own technician and pay out of pocket. I had asked Select two days prior if this was an option, but the person on the phone hardly spoke English and kept laughing while saying, "We are looking for the soonest available technician." It was not a reassuring experience.
The technician I hired was reputable and confirmed that the refrigerator was failing due to its age (it was a 16-year-old Whirlpool). I called Select Home Warranty with the technician present to give the diagnosis over the phone. He explained that there was a hole in the evaporator causing a sealed system leak, and the compressor was also failing due to age. However, Select heard their favorite loophole - "sealed system" - and immediately denied coverage. The technician was confused as he had never heard of a home warranty denying coverage for a sealed system before. It was frustrating to argue with them about this, especially since the sealed system is what everything runs off of.
I asked Select if I could get a replacement unit instead of repairing the sealed system, but they refused. They didn't care that the unit failed due to age and the hole in the evaporator. As soon as the words "sealed system" were mentioned, they denied coverage. It was shocking to hear them say that they would deny coverage even if everything else failed on a unit, including the sealed system. The positive attitude they had about denying coverage was offensive and made me feel like they were gloating about pulling the plug on my warranty coverage.
I continued to argue with them, but they kept telling me that my case was denied. I was left without a fridge and no assistance from Select Home Warranty. It was frustrating to deal with a warranty company that tried to get out of covering basic functions of a unit.
In the past, I had used Home Warranty of America, which now has terrible reviews. However, when my A/C unit went out due to a freon leak in the sealed system, they replaced the 20-year-old unit. I would recommend looking for a warranty company that doesn't try to deny coverage for basic functions of a unit.
SelectHomeWarranty's Refund Policy is a Scam: Frustrating Experience with Incompetent Service Providers and Poor Customer Service
I bought SelectHomeWarranty's annual plan because I read some reviews that said they were better than other home warranty companies. I had to make a claim for a plumbing issue after 7 months of having the plan. The company they sent to my house caused more damage than they were there to fix, and then refused to fix the new damage. I had to call another professional to come fix the damage caused by the company sent by SHW.
This happened in mid-April, during the pandemic shut-down. I called SHW and asked to have the $60 service fee refunded since I had to pay someone else to fix it. They said they wouldn't refund for services rendered but would comp the next service fee. I explained I had no intention of using their services again and wanted to cancel the contract effective immediately.
They have a pro-rated (monthly) refund, not based on the number of claims made. So even though I paid almost $500 for the year, and only made the one claim that caused damage to my house, the refund is just $133. I asked for a refund, but they said it wasn't worth it to cancel and I should just let the contract expire. I told them that's not happening and I want my refund. I get an email telling me it'll take 14-30 days to receive the refund. I called again in late May asking where my refund is because it's been more than 30 days, and I still think I should get the service fee included in that refund. They insist they can only offer to comp the next service fee and do I want to keep the service. I tell them 'absolutely NO. I am cancelling the plan and expect a refund."
They told me again that it's not worth it to cancel since I'm 7 months into the plan and I can still use their services for future claims until the contract expires. I tell them I would never trust them to send competent service providers to my house again after the damage caused and response from the company they sent last time and please send my refund check now.
Today, 6/7, we are now 8 weeks after my initial request to get a refund. The guy I get on the phone tells me the notes say the last guy I spoke to explained that it wasn't worth it to cancel and I had agreed to this. I told him that was emphatically untrue - I had cancelled the account in April and I called in May asking where my money was. He insisted twice more that I had agreed to just let it expire because the refund would be less than $100. I told him that this was not true. I had not agreed to let it expire and the refund should be over $130. Then, suddenly he changes his tune and says the software shows that my check was sent and I should have already gotten it. Not true. Hasn't happened.
Their efforts to insist I just let it run out so they don't have to pay out is as telling of their business practices as their refusal to refund a service fee for a claim that caused damage to my house, wanting me to trust them again with some future claim that may or may not ever be made. If I could give them zero stars I would. This has been exceedingly frustrating and infuriating that they just keep giving me the run-around. I hope they improve their customer service and business practices in the future.
Select Home Warranty Review: A Scam Company That Won't Fix or Replace Appliances
I recently sold my rental property and moved to a new state. I needed a home warranty for my new house and decided to do a Google search for the company I had previously used. That's when I came across Select Home Warranty. Their website seemed similar to the other company I had used, so I signed up for a quote. Within a minute, a sales rep called me and offered me a three-year warranty at a discount for being a senior citizen. The price was $1124, which I paid in advance.
I explained to the sales rep that I had bought a house with appliances that had been tested during the inspection, but I had no idea how old they were. The rep assured me that it was not a problem. However, about five weeks after I got the policy, I had to call about my washer. It took a week to get anyone out, and all they did was "reset" it. After doing a load of wash, I realized the reset did not work, so I called the tech back. He told me he had to order a part and would call me when it came in. Five weeks later, I called the tech back asking where my part was. I was told it came in, but my tech was on VK and would be back next week and then he would come back and put in the part.
The part did not solve the problem, and the tech suggested another part that would most likely fix it. However, he could not go forward without SHW approving it. They refused. They denied the claim because based on the depreciated value, the washer was not worth fixing, and they offered me $250 to either get someone else to fix it or buy a new washer. However, they would not send me the money until I sent them a receipt proving I had either paid another company to fix it or purchased another washer. When arguing with customer service, the rep gave me a snarky response by stating if they keep servicing old appliances for more than they are worth, they wouldn't make any money. I decided to cancel the warranty, and even though I had ONLY been covered for less than three months, they took over $300 out of the $1124 I had paid in advance for a three-year warranty.
I decided to go to their corporate office in Mahwah, NJ, to confront them. However, when I called the Sheraton Hotel, which is the address they give for their corporate office, I found out that SHW leases an office in their building, but usually, no one is there. They use the office to receive mail but would not give me the address where the mail is sent.
This is a scam company who has no intention of ever completely fixing an appliance or if they can't - replace it. The company I had been looking for when I came across SHW actually replaced my 10-year-old stove in my rental property when they could not get the parts to fix it. Silly me thought all warranty companies were the same.
Please don't waste your money on Select Home Warranty's worthless policy. The ONLY nice thing I can say about them is that I received my refund check in just a week.
A/C Unit
My ac condenser was replaced with a new one about a year ago and the board and a switch went out along with it having a hole in the unit lost all freon in it called select and was denied because it has a leak i had even told them i was paying for the adding more freon and repair the leak but was told even its in warranty since it was already denied they are not going to fix the board nor the switch.

Select Warranty Scam
A/C needed repair, the service guy they chose came out, spent an hour diagnosing problem, called Select, spent an hour on phone with Philippines, repair was denied by company. I need A/C in Florida, so I had repair guy fix A/C problem and I paid him. Select is a scam, they collect upfront premium and then deny service, avoid, avoid.
Date of experience: June 05, 2023
Desired outcome: Full payment of my expense.
Hot water heater
Our gas hot water heater broke down and flooded our basement on May 20, 2023. I called Select Home Warranty immediately to file a claim. That was Saturday and a technician was not able to get to our home until Monday May 22. When I called SHW I explained the whole situation, nothing was explained that they would not replace the unit, just repair it. We could not turn on the main water because the hot water heater just kept leaking. So we were without water, including out bathrooms. The technician showed up, inspected the water heater and called SHW to get authorization to replace the water heater. They denied the claim because they said "it was leaking". We paid $75 for the fee for service, they had just taken the monthly premium out of our bank account and when I called for further explanation, I was beyond patient. There was nothing I could do but complain and cancel the service warranty. They had the audacity to take another $75 cancellation fee from my account after I specifically said not to take any more money from us. So in total, they took $192.00 from us for nothing. Three days without water and ended up costing us over $1000 for a new heater. DO NOT GET A HOME WARRANTY FROM THESE LIARS AND THIEVES.
Desired outcome: Please refund the cancellation fee as this is a monthly contract. Too much "fine print". Two senior citizens on a fixed income and you stole almost $200 from us for no resolution.
Repair of washing machine
I filed my first ever claim on our washing machine, that won't spin out the clothes. After having a repairman out, he said this is a common problem with this machine, I paid the deductible, and they sent a quote to SHW. However, SHW offered a reimbursement of $150 toward repair or replacement. You say all of these appliances are covered, but also have every clause in the book that overrides any coverage that you think you have. My washing machine value is depreciated (which all appliances are, why else would I want a warranty), and SHW claims this is all I would receive toward a repair or replacement, which obviously won't ever cover the cost of a repair OR replacement. This is the first time I've used this policy that I paid $1200, and SHW won't cover $350 to repair? I'm not even asking for a replacement! Select Home Warranty is nothing but lip service.
Desired outcome: The full cost of repair or replacement!
