South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] unethical behaviour and poor customer service

Good day,

I would like to cancel my sabc tv licence ([protected]) and it seems that this has STILL not as yet been done to date despite all my attempts thus far.

I constantly receive these auto generated emails and my request is not being attended to personally by a manager in charge.

This is very poor customer service. I am expecting a personalized response from a manager to know that the request for cancellation has being addressed and the matter is resolved.

Herewith is a brief summary of the most recent communication over the last few months and I will not even bother to go any further back:
1. I spoke with Sihle and she consulted her team leader Prudence who advised to produce an affidavit confirming that I use my tv as a LCD. I did so and emailed this document, that you now have on record. I was told that the tv licence would be canceled and there would be no outstanding amount.
2. Thereafter, I received a very confusing email from Leonard Baicks who informed me that the matter was not resolved and once again more interest was added to the tv licence subscription.
3. I then called in and requested to speak to Prudence, however the consultant I spoke with (Lorenzo) preferred to try to resolve the matter himself instead of reverting the matter to his supervisor or the manager. Lorenzo asked me to contact Teljoy and get them to come remove my tv tuner and acquire a certificate from them and fax or email this to SABC as proof and that the affidavit was not sufficient. Of course, I was not prepared to do yet another (fruitless) task so I insisted on speaking to his supervisor Prudence. He informed me that his supervisor was unavailable and reassured me that his manager and/or supervisor would be in contact with me to resolve the matter.

This has not happened to date.

Please refer to the voice recordings as proof of this and my history in dealing with (what seems to be) your fraudulent practices. Kindly confirm in writing that the matter is resolved and my tv licence is canceled. At this stage I do not need to be compensated for the extra effort and cost that I have incurred.

Furthermore, I still constantly receive emails and smses from Kobus Best at NuDebt Collections with compounded interest to the tv licence amount. Kindly rectify this with them and lets close this matter.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] unauthorised debit order

I cancelled my SABC TV licence and debit order in January 2017 with an affidavit at the Post Office. The debit orders stopped, until July 2017 when SABC unlawfully reinstated the debit orders without authorisation. As I no longer live in SA and that bank account is no longer used, this caused an overdraft and fines. This re-occurred in August. I want the money taken and the fine repaid into my account and the debit orders to cease.
This is theft/ fraud on the part of SABC TV Licencing and I will report it as such.

Contacted your department advised that i dont have a tv since they stole my tv. Spoke to a gloria who advised to get an affidavit and only pay R400 . Emailed and no response.please stop bothering me and go listen to those calls .this is unnecessary charges . You play crap anyway on tv so quite glad i dont have one and watch. You guys rob people in broad daylight. Please solve this and stop sending me threatening messages

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am an adult male person, 69 years of age and wish to raise my complaint with your offices.

Bearing in mind that the official recognised age to be classified as a pensioner is 60. I have since 2008 been attempting to obtain a concessionary TV licence from the SABC, but sadly to say to no avail. The only response I received was an arbitrary: “You are obliged to pay your TV licence”.

Instead of being afforded a concessionary TV licence, I am currently burdened with a TV licence in the amount of R397.50 payable by 31/08/2017, in turn leaving me at my wits’ end.

In closing, I wish to draw your attention to an excerpt from the Pretoria East Record issued on 18/08/2017, which reads as follows:
Tshwane’s Bus Rapid Transit System (BRT) issued the following statement: “Pensioners between the ages of 60-64 get a 25% discount on standard adult fares…and those 65 and older travel for free…”

In direct contrast with the above, my TV licence has doubled.

I trust that your offices can be of assistance in alleviating my dilemma.

Good morning

I am very disappointed to have received a SMS from VVM debt collectors on the 12th August 2017 advising that I have been handed over for non payment of my TV license. (Ref [protected]).
Had I received an account from your team, I would have gladly made the payment on time. Now I have to pay additional penalties which I am very unhappy about.
This is definately not treating customers fairly. If VVM could send an SMS to me, I cant see why your team could not do it as well.
To date I have not received any correspondence from you (an account, letter advising that if I did not make any payment I would be handed over to debt collectors). I have subsequently made the payment but I still feel that I should not have been charged any penalties.

You should seriously review your policy and be like multichoice. You should charge people who watch the SABC channels.

We failing to buy TVs about 20 people are waiting just because some people are unprofessional. The Jet manager in Witbank has been calling since morning the number for Johannesburg does not go through, someone put the phone on side. And Durban branch can not help. this is so unprofessional on the day like this you fail to help your customers, now the shops will loose profit just because of useless staff members.

the same thing happened to me and this is affecting our credit score. first thing first we dont watch these sabc boring channels and besides these channels dont even play nicely without a decoder so whats the use. this tv licence thing should be banned.

I have received an email from vim attorney threaten me about my debt from sac to licence whilst I never received any letters of my account from sac to licence its been years now but what surprise me is that I just received email from vim just send me email and account details so that I can arrange with u a payment of R200 each an every month till I finish paying my account

Dear SABC

Please note i have received an sms on my phone number [protected] stating that i have been handed over to VVM debt collectors in respect to tv license.

Firstly my boyfriend purchased a tv in March 2016 and i purchased the tv license at the game store (the Glen) on my name as he did not have his ID and or proof of residence with him to do so.

Secondly i have not to date received any messages / emails / statements of accounts from SABC confirming that there is a payment due - further more since then i have moved out of my ex-boyfriends place from JUNE 2016 and do not have use of his then purchased tv mentioned above and have since from June 2016 moved in with my parents at my parents place and have been watching my folks TV of which they have a license for.

In light of the above kindly retract the sms your attorney has sent and kindly have sabc and your attorney deliver me with an apology for SABC's oversight in instructing an Attorney erroneously without taking correct steps; and kindly close the above mentioned account number of which i do not own a tv for ([protected]).

lastly a further sms with MY Details was sent from VVM to my ex-husbands new wifes phone number of whom's initials are as follows: LB Peterson / now Smith, of whom has a totally different cell number to mine of whom also does not bare MY ID number - HOW IS IT THAT VVM, of whom have been around for years can send out messages stating people have been handed over without following correct procedures by requesting proof of delivery of bill from sabc and how is it that they sms a totally different person - WHAT unprofessional conduct is this?

Kindly have the above retracted and apology letter sent, a closed account sent via sms to ALLthe numbers you have sent sms's to, to date!

Ive been receiving smses that i have to pay my tv licence. I dont even have a tv and have never bought a tv. So why should i pay for something i dont own. Now im in dept aswell for something i dont have. I have no idea how you got my nr or my details for that matter. But im very sorry i will not be paying the account of R477. Because i DO NOT own a tv.

Good day,

My name is Glenda. I have not paid my TV License for this year. I am more than willing to pay this.
Last year I was contacted by your collections agency and was given a discount for paying my account it was over a thousand rand. after paying I never got my TV License card or phone calls or emails .. nothing.
I completely forgot about it and now I get an email hat I owe R2200. I am not willing to pay this. I feel cheated and unhappy about this. I am willing to pay my license for the year but not R2200.

All my contact details are still the same why have no one contacted me to tell me my account is outstanding?
Why have I not received some reminder?
Why do I owe R2200 now?
Someone did not do their work.
I do not have money for this and am not willing to pay this.

Please revert. NB! I will pay for the year but not R2200.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] debt collectors

We had our house broken into about 7 times in less than 18 months.
The last 3 times we did not have a tv to steal anymore because we stopped buying tv's.

Herewith is the case number of the theft as previously reported to you.
Please note that the case number for the theft of the tv and other items is:
852.1.2005

After that many break ins and thefts, we have decided not to have a tv anymore.
Could you please cancel the tv licence once and for all?

Please acknowledge receipt of this complaint?

Please send me proof that the licence was cancelled and that you will no longer bother us.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] accounts department not following up on proof of payment

Our tv licence no - [protected] was paid in full last year online. We were then sent an invoice of R371.00 to pay as our payment was not traced by said accounts department. I emailed proof of payment to the accounts department and thought that this had been sorted out as I never heard back from accounts. Our television was stolen last week we went to purchase a new one and to our astonishment we were told that we had to pay R371.00 to clear our account. Clearly the accounts department has done nothing on their side to trace our payment despite me sending proof of payment from Nedbank . The SABC owes us R371.00 as we had to pay this to acquire the television. Our TV account has always been kept up to date. This inefficiency is not at all acceptable.
Please update our account and pay us the R371.00 that is owed to us.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] sabc ignoring cancellation of bank debit order request

Good day

I so many times request by sending letters to the sabc to cancel my debit order for tv license. To no avail.

Now another debit order go through to the amount of r250.00

I want it to be cancelled with immediate effect and reverse the amount back to my absa account.
I do not make use of tv and or dstv or else due to price and old programs show over and over and have retired as well.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] t. v licence payment

My id [protected] request a refund
I am in credit with you for my tv licence to the tune of + - r 2 000.00 as over the years both my husband & I paid this.
I am now asking please for a refund only to be told I have to prove to you that I actually paid.
I was told I must give you the last 5 payments. This going back 5 years.
I do not have these records & i'm sure you can imagine what it would be like trying to get this info from the bank - never mind the cost.
Surely the fact that I am in credit with you is proof enough that these payments were made?
You surely have records as credits were passed.
Please help me resolve this issue
It does not make sense that I be in credit with you for the next 10 years & in fact more as my fees will reduce for pensionable rates

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] tv license - accidentally paid too much via eft

On the 4th of January 2017 I accidentally paid a portion of my son's school fees to SABC TV Licences, I selected the wrong beneficiary in internet banking. The figure paid was R1450, and I need back the balance of R1185 after deducting the R265 for the 2017 TV license.

I've called the helpline and was told to email my issue to tvlic.[protected]@sabc.co.za with proof of payment, TV License number and bank details and the issue would go through to the finance department to be sorted out - I've now emailed 17 times over the past 2 weeks and have yet to receive a response or even an acknowledgement.

The fact that the SABC can makes threats to me to pay my TV license even before it's overdue, when I'm sure I'm in the minority as a payer, and then ignore me when they owe me money really makes me mad. If I don't get the money reimbursed in the next week I'm going to explore other ways to get it back.

On the 28/10/2015 while paying my TV license my PC screen froze during payment so did not get indication payment went through. So paid again, then later found out I had paid twice. After several phone calls and Emails to SABC providing proof of payment made twice and providing details where the refund should go still no joy of a refund after months so gave up corresponding with the incompetent SABC. Now they are chasing me up for the new license payment and stating I will be fined even though again in 2017 I have indicated by Email I paid twice for the previous year!

I have been trying to cancel my tv license [protected], a year after I bought the tv set, I have sent through affidavits again in 2008, 2009 and 2016. I was referred to complete the sabc affidavit although this affidavit has only been in existing about 2-3 years ago. Spoke to a consultant and a supervisor who both kept me on hold for about almost 30 mins combined and could still not resolve the call. Now more information is required which would have been appreciated if it was sent via email as my request for cancelation was done via email. My address was completed on the affidavits and this was ignored.
I do admit that I received sms's however all sms's received was to advise that I must pay my instalment and nowhere was there confirmation that I need to give further information. I would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

Payement was made in November of 2016. Done via the FNB cellphone app. I have emailed the proof of payment through numerous times and my account has still not rectified.

I have had no joy in resolving this matter, on top of that i'm been charged interest even though i have made payment.

It highly frustrating and annoying. I do hope that I will get a response here and assistance in resolving this problem.

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] sabc tv licence account

My TV and microwave was stolen from my house in Pietermaritzburg in November 2015. I had received several sms of overdue account to which I queried and the lady at that time advise that I need to get an affidavit from the police station when I explained that I am no longer in possession of the items. She stated that I need to settle the outstanding amount thereafter I must forward the affidavit as proof to close my account. Payment was made on 19 April 2016. The affidavit and the proof of payment was emailed.
Today 22/12/2016 I have received another statement that this years tv licence is due, to which I called the department on [protected] and spoke to a lady by the name of Nonhlanhla to which she checked and said that they received my email but the affidavit was rejected. I asked her why had no one contacted me or emailed me regarding this rejection? just then the call cut. I called about 30mins later and asked to speak to her and the guy said that she is on another call, I gave him my details to check and he tells me the same story. I asked several questions to which he could not answer and was having attitude on the phone instead on helping me resolvecancel my account. I thereafter requested to speak to a manager, I was on hold for + 15mins and no one came to the phone so I dropped the call. I have been to the police station again to get a 2nd affidavit and emailed it to: tvlic.[protected]@sabc.co.za & [protected]@sabc.co.za still waiting a response.

Are sabc above the law to reject an affidavit which is stamped and commissioned ?

South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] sabc ref [protected] - unlawful threat on closed account

I have sent the following to the manager of the SABC TV Licences dept,

I have not owned a TV set for the last 6 years.
I am not aware of any outstanding monies on the account.
My initial set was destroyed during a move many years ago and I reported it as such at that time when a license payment was due.
I have insisted that they reverse any charges to my account and delete any record that they might have of me owning any television set.
I have not owned another set since then.
Referring to the text message I received to my personal number on 10/12/2016, I believe this to be an unlawful threat to handover my account to Pritchard and Associates (as stated in the message) reflecting the inadequate/corrupt processes in which the SABC conducts its operations.
The fact that I received a sudden communication 6 years after not receiving any communications(texts, notices or letters) of payment must surely be a blatant sign that there is an error on their side. Why now after 6 years? Because their records are wrong.

I informed them that I do not take kindly to legal threats and will escalate this to attorneys if the matter is not resolved with one working day.

I have had no response since 10/12/2015.
I also explained that I will also go to great lengths to action a thorough complaint to the The National Consumer Commission on your activities in this matter.

Also, I have made an attempt to call their call center on 10/12/2016 to discuss the matter but after holding with no answer for 8 minutes I dropped the call, clearly they are also ill equipped to facilitate any form of customer service but yet you simply send out threats to unlawfully fill their coffers.

Yet, they have a sales team who called me to sell me insurance..

I kindly await your urgent response.

same thing here we moved overseas in 2008, they never cancelled our license as requested at the time now, 8 years later, they are threatening us also with the same lawyers, if I have my debt laws correct the debt has passed 5 years with no notice or effort or acknowledgement of debt thus is prescribed and needs to be written off? We live in home that has a valid TV license (my dad's) and only one per household is needed. I called back in 2013 on our return and let them know they were at fault and i was told that i just had to pay it, seriously?

constantly receive sms pertaining outstanding monies owed to SABC, can they not read or understand, on 5 January 2012 i have submitted proof, affidavit at local police station, that my tv set was damaged by lightning, it was subsequently taken for repairs but was given to another customer, these details were faxed to the SABC yet till today they cannot understand English it would seem, the documents were faxed on 05/01/2012 at 12.08 to [protected] and was in fact received, if I have purchased any new tv set/s, then please be so kind as to infrm me of such purchase so I can arrange for delivery

Last year some time I went in to purchase a tv and to my surprise found that there is an unpaid tv licence appearing on my name. I found that strange as for over the past 5 years I had duly purchased a television set which i was promptly paying for the tv licence. after much e-mails I was emailed to fill in a affidavit. the person below was dealing with the query. Affidavit was submitted and numerous follows done with no response.
