I have had a Wells Fargo checking and savings account for over fifteen years. A Wells Fargo branch in Las Vegas allowed my ex-husband to wire transfer 39k out of my checking account. His name was not on my account and we have two different last names. I was the only authorized user on my account. I asked for an investigation and Wells Fargo executives stated he just needed my account number to do the transaction. I then asked why wasn't an identification checked because he is not on my account and the bank representative said we are not allowed to check gender. I asked for them to at least put a hold on the money to further investigate and they did nothing. Wells Fargo allowed this man to steal my money out of my account. The branch manager from this bank it was taken from left that bank almost immediately after, possibly fired, and went to Chase bank. I know this because I did my own investigating out of frustration with Wells Fargo doing nothing. A bank is required to keep a customers money safe not allow someone to take it out because they have the account number . Account numbers are on checks. Checking identification is required. This bank did nothing about getting my 39k back and why did the bank allow such a large transaction in one day to be transferred. I am pretty sure there is a limit of money being transferred so none of it seems legal. But Wells Fargo refuses to answer any questions to me the answer was we can't check gender.
Claimed loss: 39,000.00
Desired outcome: Refund the money get it back from the criminal the man who wired it illegally from my account unauthorized
