relocation and cancellation issues
Since my move to New York City in September, I’ve been trying to cancel my membership. According to information from the Minneapolis franchise owner, and the corporate Web site, if a member moves to a city without a club within 15 miles of their residence, the membership may be cancelled. And, according to the Web site, not only can you reach out to your club via phone or email ([protected]@anytimefitness.com) — please feel free to email them on my behalf — to cancel your membership, you can also reach out to ABC Financial Services to work it out, as they are the contracted financial services firm that controls the automatic withdrawal of funds from your bank account to keep your membership active. You see where I’m going, right?
True to my experience with both of these corporations to date, each is equally inept at managing client relationships. Voice mails? Unresponsive. Emails? Unresponsive. Certified letters? We’ll see, I finally just sent three — to the CEO of each corporation, and then to the local Minneapolis club, as well, to serve as official written notice of my request for cancellation based on my relocation. When I finally got management on the line at the Minneapolis club, it was apparently new management, had no idea I even existed, was perplexed by the fact that I was a Minneapolis club member but living in Manhattan, and no idea how to handle the situation. You can guess how painful that conversation was.
When I finally got representatives at ABC Financial Services on the line, each of the three individuals I spoke with claimed ignorance of the cancelleation policies and freedom from having to help me, even though the Anytime Fitness Web site directs its members to them for questions directly relating to my situation! Funny, both organizations are incredibly skilled at making certain that monthly withdrawal from my checking account happens with spotless regularity — and they’ve even raised their rates due to a MN taxation issue without contacting club members. Funnier, still, that cost increase hit my checking account separate from my monthly membership dues with no problem at all. There is nothing more frustrating than watching a company you loathe successfully withdraw funds from your personal checking account.
Something, however, tells me that if it weren’t for technology’s ability to cover human flaws, this whole Anytime Fitness franchise operation would die so quickly that CEO Jeff Klinger wouldn’t be receiving any awards. And the fact that he was awarded anything with “visionary” in the title is completely beyond me. Maybe he should look beyond his own bank account and little fitness fiefdom and use that visionary prowess to see exactly how poorly the club franchises he spawned are being run. Running a business isn’t for everyone, so if a club owner is relying on “easy money and little management time” because of the business model, maybe he/she should think again. Or actually, maybe they should just think.
That’s it. Just think. Use your brain. Get it together. Answer a phone call. Reply to an email. Know company policy. And respect your members, Anytime Fitness and ABC Financial Services. If you cant’ do that, then get out of the business. And for God’s sake, get out of my bank account!

ridiculous cancellation rules
Laugh at this all you "contract know-it-alls" ! I moved from one place to another. My new location was 18.4 + miles away from a single Anytime Fitness. I contacted them, wishing to cancel due to a move that put me 15+ miles away from an Anytime Fitness (as their cancelation rules stipulate) and provided sufficient proof of this. WELL, they cant cancel, because although I AM 18 + miles away by driving distance to an Anytime Fitness (RandMcNally, GOOGLEmaps, Yahoo Maps, and Map Quest ALL confimed this) I AM however' 14.36 miles away IF YOU FLEW! I crap you not, they use the radius of an area and plot a line map..through fields, cities, buildings, houses...and if you arent 15miles away "as the crow flies"? well, have fun with your ### membership! Anytime Fitness sucks

BAYSHORE GARDENS ANYTIME FITNESS BRADENTON, FL SUCKS...DITTO ABOVE besides all the BS with hidden fess for MyZone, FOBS, etc. and horrible cancellation policies. Manager Megan is a Twit.
See Rebecca's post. Same old same olde everywhere, including BayShore Gardens. : "Rude staff, clique of sorts and definitely intertwined staff to include management. Inconsistent fees, inconsistent enforcement of rules, very much disappointed with the unprofessionalism of staff. From a humble small town gym comfortable and appropriate for seniors, to a mismanaged bimbo and her owner boyfriend."

I got a call from them,
In that call I told them I want to cancel due to relocation,
They told me they are in the area I am relocating to,
I didn't cancel, continued my membership,
They were not in that area,
I got tricked with no proof.
Great way to scam.
I accidentally left a an expensive skin treatment oil on the changing room. The manager, Jake Schied was the only person I saw near there as I was working out. I asked about the oil, he denied taking it or seeing the deodorant I had also left. The deodorant was in the trash. I would guess Jake stole the valuable oil.

anytime fitness doesn't tell you about this 3rd party biller.
Staff is a gang that supports bad behaviour. And encourage it by having each other's back. Including the owner.
Anytime fitness is single handingly the BEST gym and Smartest decision, if you listen to these posts, your nuts. monthly options are fine its soley up to your decison, people are nice and will do aything to suit your needs
Anytime Fitness clubs are concerned solely about making money - not helping their clients achieve their fitness goals. I was a franchise owner and I can tell you that it's a mentality that seeps down from the franchise founder thru the company and down to the individual owners. All they care about is charging everyone for everything and making money. That's why I was only briefly an owner - they were out to screw me just like they do all of their club members.
impossible to cancel membership
DON'T DO IT! After my contact expired I had to go in person to the gym to cancel. Every time I set up a time to do so, after speaking with the owner and being assured he would be there, he was not. He claimed to be there often, but I rarely saw him while I was working out and he was never then when I went to cancel. I had to cancel my credit card to stop the automatic payments. I was then contacted by their collections agency to pay. They had no authority to cancel my membership. I called their corporate offices, and they could not cancel my membership. They did call the gym, and the guy sent his FATHER to meet me. They treated me poorly when I was there, calling me a liar and insisting that they were honest people. If I could file criminal charges I would. Liars, cheats, rude, obnoxious.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Why did you cancel... Didn't use the gym regularly? Or?
That's odd... Never heard of such a thing...
You couldn't just call the Billing Co. that was in control of your member Agreement?
My member Agreement clearly states (in 1 paragraph) Member's Right To Cancel = Notice in writing or call #.
Do you have a copy of your member Agreement or did you throw it away right after you joined?
harrassment
AnyTime Fitness is a front for "month to month" fitness membership. I stopped going in Sep 09, my membership was month to month, at a rate of 56.00 for me and my ex girlfriend. I called and said I would no longer be a member, they said ok, just turn in your keys. I have received over 75 calls from ABC Financial threatening me about an overdue balance of 160.00. I just went to the center I was a member of to turn my keys in. The rude woman, apparently has vestige in the franchise, as she was screaming "so what, im supposed to EAT this"? As a business owner, I was inclined to engage in her battle, what exactly did you "eat"?. You hold no products that I was the purchasee on, it was a blind service that we did not use. Point 2: My business partner owns a chain of MetroPCS stores, which is m2m. If you dont pay, you dont play. So how is it that when I switched CC's, they continued to bill for two more months? Good question.
They are now going to deal with our legal team.
BEWARE!
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Sounds simple. You want to quit they say no problem bring in the key. You wait and bring it in months later and complain that you have to adhere to a policy that applies to everyone. WOW, YOU BETTER GET THAT TEAM READY FOR THE BIG FIGHT.
WOW... Over 75 phone calls... That's crazeee. Almost hard to believe... Are you exaggerating?
You REALLY have a legal team?
You must be very important... Maybe take it to Congress?
automatic renewal
A few months ago I joined the Anytime Fitness location in League City-Kemah. They were offering a 90 day "trial" membership. I was very reluctant to get involved with another fitness center as the year before I had endured the same rip-off issue that many people experience with the likes of LA Fitness (located on League City Parkway (State Rt. 96) in...

I am leaving for the USMC. I called the billing agency and they said that boot camp was not active duty even though my enlistment papers said that it was. Also the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act states that any military personnel on military business for a period of 30 days or more is considered active duty. I then contacted my local anytime fitness again. They stated that "somewhere" in my contract it was stated that boot camp wasn't considered active duty, however I was unable to find this statement on the back of my contract, nor could the manager. He then said that i would be able to contact ABC Financial again and cancel my contract.
This is a copy of an email i sent to support@anytimefitness.com
I am leaving for active duty in the USMC. I am going to boot camp Monday 10/19/09 and would like to cancel my contract. However the manager (Jim Goldbeck) at my local fitness center said that boot camp wasn't included in active duty. However my enlistment contract clearly stated that my first day of active duty was 10/19/09. Also the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act states that military personnel leaving for military duties for more than 30 days are considered active duty. I then contacted ABC Financial and was told that they were instructed per anytime fitness that boot camp wasnt considered active duty. They then stated that I would have to contact my local fitness center to cancel my contract. I then continued to contact Jim once again. He said that "somewhere" in my contract it stated that active duty didnt consist of boot camp, but was unable to find it in the "additional terms and conditions" on the back of the contract, as were we. Do not worry I already filed a complaint with the BBB and will be contacting my local news agency to see if they are interested in reporting on the poor customer service from your company.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
Check with ABC Billing to cancel early for "Relocation" and try to use the papers showing your boot camp address, etc.
If that doesn't work, you can probably "Freeze" your account for an extended period of tim (90 days) until you finish boot camp, are permanently relocated and can provide full documentation for early cancel due to "Relocation."
And... Take your boot camp paperwork into your club and reason with them (politely)...
They are regular, reasonable people that are simply trying to keep a profitable business running in a terrible economy.
You'd be surprised at how many members and how much grief the club staff deal with from people trying to figure any way out of paying their gym dues!
Lastly... Contact Anytime Fitness Corporate to have them speak/persuade Jim Goldbeck to be reasonable.
Thanks in advance for your service.
Take Care!
very poor customer service
I have spoken with 4 people now at this company trying to cancel my membership and they continue to take money out of my account, with out my consent! They told me that they need a 30 day written cancelation notice but no matter what I will be charged at least one more month. This was not written in the contract and why did the first person I spoke with not tell me this. So now because they are shady I am loosing $140 that I need to pay other bills. The first person I spoke with told me that the account would be cancled and that my money would be refunded. Then what do you know they take more money from me and are going to take at least another month out. Anytime fitness needs to be stopped and so does ABC finanical. This is not fair, they are ripping people off and getting away with it. They are stealing money and being very shady about all this.

I don't get the complaint(s)?
It's very simple... use the facilities and be healthy...
Fulfill your member agreement...
Cancel in accordance to your member agreement.
It's not brain science.
Blame, Blame, Blame!? crazeee
I'm agree with you the company is not good .I tried to cancell my self and allways they have an excuse.I'm going to see a lawyer tomorrow and see if he can do some thing.I can name many negative things.
I agree with "Complaint should be removed." above..
What does Beerman think that "a 30 day written cancellation notice " that is printed on the agreement means anyways?...Obviously he thinks that it means that the dues and membership stops immediately and in no way implies 30 days from when he gives the notice... I guess when I give my 2 week notice at my job it means I am walking out the door and not coming back, RIGHT NOW?... or is that only with a 30 day notice?..
Come on man, take some responsibility and quit complaining. Do you have a copy of your original signed member agreement? If not ask for it from the club... It's only 1 page and has 1 paragraph "MEMBERS RIGHT TO CANCEL"... Your arm wasn't twisted to join! Simple. Take Care.
payment for 2 months withdrawn from my checking account not owed
I signed a one year contract with Anytime fitness in Feburary of 2008. I paid the first month and security fees and was told that after the one year that I could continue, if I chose to, without signing another contract. I had a foot injury and was unable to workout and called in October of 08' and was told I could only freeze the contract for 3 months and since it was a family plan, no one would be able to workout during that time but, the payments would still be withdrawn from my checking account. Thinking the payments were being withdrawn and I was unable to tend to my finances because of a major surgery from the injury, my daughter was paying my bills. Around the first of the year, Bruce, an employee of anytime fitness, called and asked if one of the members on my account could continue under my name, I told him no that he wasn't trustworthy of his payment to me and since the contract was up, only the 3 months that was frozen would be all we'd be using. He never once told me that ABC was not drawing out the payments for November, December, and January. Thinking my contract was fully paid and over, I was in the bank in June for an overdraft when the teller showed me that ABC has started taking payments out of my account in March. I went in to talk to Bruce about it and he gave me a print out which also showed that a free month I earned for signing up a new member in or around March of 08' was given to me in October when I called to freeze. He had told me twice that I had already been given that credit, but, instead it was given to me during the period that I couldn't work out. Also, when ABC started withdrawing payments, they were being withdrawn on the first and my contract plainly states the 15th of each month. Bruce after a few days and me calling for a few days, called me on a saturday and said that they would deposit 2 months back into my account. I didn't even ask for the overdraft fees that they caused. After no activity on my banking account ever occured, I called Bruce back. He said he would call ABC and ask. He did return my call and said I would have to call them and he was no longer able to talk to me. I need to know when this issue will be resolved and how long this will take. I am on a limited income and by the way this contract was handled, I am out of money for 2 months I didn't owe for. I believe that the young man is very much at fault with this issue and should be held accountable for his inadaquatacy. There are other issues that I wasn't satisfied with, with this particular fitness center also.
Man that is strange he did the same thing to me.. I signed when they first opened also and they pulled out the money after my contract was over.. He said that once it was over Id be able to continue if i wanted to with out a contract.. find me on facebook frogg0692@yahoo.com
We LOVE our membership with Anytime Fitness!
5 years now... been to 10+ locations... We read they are opening in Canada & Mexico!
Is your foot healed now?
Are you back to work now?
What are the other issues with this particular fitness center you were not satisfied with?
Any update(s) on your posting?
cancellation
My Anytime Fitness location closed with NO notice to the members. On Friday it was open, on Monday it was not. As such, I requested to cancel my account immediately and was told I had to send a letter to ABC Financial to formally request cancellation. I did so, but was told I still owned for the month since my account to another location. The location is within' the 10 miles fro my original clause in my initial contract, but 8 miles in the opposite direction from where I live. In addition, I am no longer under the initial 1 year contract and renewed month to month as indicated in the initial agreement.
ABC financial refused to close my account until that debt is paid and is threatening collections. I have been assured by my attorney that they agreement will not hold up should I continue to contest the charge.
I strongly suggest that you do not enter an agreement with Anytime Fitness / ABC Financial as they have shady practices and it seems constant that clubs close with no notice to memebers.

That sucks... Doesn't seem right at all.
complaints seem like whining?
After reading the complaints it seems that they have similarities...
The complainers are throwing blame away from themselves?
It's not like Anytime Fitness is coming to anyone's home and pressuring someone to join!
The signed Member Agreement is only 1 page... How hard can it be to understand the details?
I am looking at one right now and it simply states Member rights To Cancel in 1 paragraph.
Take some responsibility yourself and stop slandering Anytime Fitness with inaccurate complaints.
Take Care :)
Has anyone gotten any updates from Congress yet?
WOW! Congress... They will 4 sure put your complaint on the top of their list(s)... LMAO :)
Maybe you should have followed the proper guidelines you signed = the single paragraph "Members Right To Cancel"?
Na... It's much more liberating to curse, brag about working for the DOD, and threaten rediculous lawsuits, etc!
Have you ever heard of Slander?
ALL gyms have a contract: A written agreement between to or more people.
Even your expensive YMCA that 70% of the build-out cost was paid for by local city tax dollars. Then the Y charges $50 to $150 for a monthly membership unless you say your poor. All the while calling themselves non-profit, while the executives and management make exceptionally high wages.
I too am an educated consumer that is happy with Anytime Fitness and has issue with people that are fat, unhealthy, unhappy, and want to throw blame on others. If you worked out 3 to 4 times a week at the Anytime Fitness and quit complaining, you would be happier and less of a burden on our society.
How much do you get paid to whine your way through life, blaming others?
Most of the posted complaints are duplicates by the same posters under different names.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I just google'd "Anytime Fitness Complaints" because my wife and I are about to wage a legal battle against the corporation.
We're not fat, nor lazy...
any of you meatheads that seem to want to discredit anyone who truly has an issue with the gym should get off the roids for a while... at least until "clarity of thought" returned..
we were members for over a year.. we tried to terminate our contract... it took 3 months for anyone to inform us that we had to have a certified letter sent... once we sent the certified letter stating that we we wanted to quit the gym, they wouldn't stop charging our bank account... I haven't stepped foot into anytime fitness for over 18 months, we've switched banks.. and they still send us statements saying we owe them money..
well... since I won't be able to say this in a court of law... ### OFF Anytime fitness..
I work for the DOD, and i've got some friends in the legislative and executive branches who happen to be the people to complain to in times like these... Anytime fitness may not care when they receive the summons to appear in court for our case.. but they are going to ### bricks when they receive a summons to appear in front of a congressional panel next year... HAHAHAHA..
I really hate that it has come to this.. but... This Corporation is harassing us... and... well.. It is time to fight back.
Who are you anyway? An Anytime fitness owner or employee? How much did they pay you to post your little message?
Gym's should not require a contract. They should all charge month to month. Going to the gym is an activity that should promote health and well being not emotional and "in the complaints you are referring to", financial hardships. You must be a greedy franchise owner or someone who benefits from these poor guys/gals misfortune. I call people like that leeches. I by the way am not a member I am a smart consumer and I pay month to month at the YMCA which pound for pound blows AF out of the water. Hands down!
awful customer service
get phone calls and emails to buy into exercise programs and the trainer even tried to sell me a wrist band while I was working out on the elliptical.
I expect a relaxed environment and I understand the recession but with the crowding, having to wait for cardio equipment, not everything works, no one offerd to teach me how to use anything once they had my digits, being unable to reach staff during staff hours and this weird door-to-door sales pitch style I am extremely uncomfortable continuing to com in. There are only certain times I can go to the gym and I don't want to change my schedule because the gym is no longer what I agreed to pay for as far as service goes.
When I came in to cancel my membership they trainer was asking me why and I didn't want to say "because of you". Later she called me at home. I'm sure she feels she is just being nice and trying to grow her business but it's awful.
I have tried to contact The Owner and it is almost impossible to do so during their listed business hours, via email or phone. The last time we spoke was because he called me by accident thinking I had called him about an apartment he's renting.
I feel tricked, as though I bought into a pyramid scheme and now I'm trapped and with a defective product and non-existent service. This is absolutely the worst service I've ever encountered and I can't believe I have to pay for people to treat me this way.
It is absolutely not worth the money. it's just a room with work out equipment. you can get much more and much better at another establishment.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
ALL gyms have contracts:
definition... A contract is a written agreement between 2 or more parties.
The days of handing over some money and shaking a hand is long gone... Thank the lawyers and sue happy people.
As with the person above me they used trickery to get me in the door. "no contracts" clearly posted on the window and "free personal training session" never once got personal training, or a run down of anything . cancelled early was told to pay 2 months for leaving ?!? smells like a contract . friend also left and they said his reason wasnt good enough so they made him pay 3 months. here it is a little while later im in collections for $1027. called the customer service number .. same rude woman twice. they actually don't think the "no contract" means anything, they say not false advertising ? said i should know im signing a contract . but being told its not a contract means nothing ? lying dirtbags. they are like the verizon of gyms :)
overcharged
Last year I joined Anytime Fitness on Cypress Street in West Monroe, LA. At the time I was not planning to move, but was told that if I was to move to an area that did not have an Anytime Fitness location nearby that the $100 cancellation fee would be waved. After about four months I made a decision to move to Kansas for personal reasons.
I checked on their webpage to see if there were any locations near where the place I would be moving to. There wasn't a single one within 50 miles of my location, so I explained this to one of their staff members. They checked on their computer and agreed that there was not a location near my future home, but told me that I would still have to pay the fee. I told this woman (not the same person that I signed up with) that I had been told differently upon my intial registration. I even told her I could prove that I was changing my address when I officially changed it through the postal service.
She proceeded to tell me that I would have to pay the fee. I asked to speak to the staff member I had signed up with, and she said that he usually didn't work at the Cypress Street location and that it didn't matter anyway because the fee absolutely had to be paid.
I eventually had to call my bank to stop the payments. Six months later they were still calling me trying to get the money and I eventually had to threaten them with a lawyer before they stopped.
An additional problem I had with this location was that their tanning beds did not provide protective eye wear, which is crucial for safe tanning. I wonder how many people have experienced sight loss from tanning without goggles.
In conclusion, Anytime Fitness charges twice as much as a normal gym just so you can work out at two a.m. if you want to. They lie about their policies and do not follow necessary precautions with their tanning beds.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
While I don't think it's necessary that places that offer tanning also offer eyewear it's a nice perk. I don't think I'd use them myself as I prefer to have my own but I understand that you think it's a service that should be offered.
On the other counts I do not see how they can charge to cancel for reasons such as moving nowhere near a location and for MEDICAL reasons. I wouldn't pay that.
You think tanning places should have to provide free protective eyewear?
Does the local swimming pool facility provide free swimming suits?
When you buy a car do they provide free car insurance?
Come on... You have no valid complaint(s).
I am one of the managers at this location and I would have to disagree... It clearly states in your contract that there are 2 reasons to cancel and with each of those reasons is a $100 cancellation fee.. one reason being medical with a doctors excuse and the other is relocation where there is not another Anytime Fitness.. You have to sign that part of the contract.. If you would like I would be more than happy to give you and your attorney a copy of the contract.

It should be removed.
can't cancel membership
About 3/4's into my membership I noticed that some months they were charging me double. I went to the Anytime Fitness in Prescott and spoke with the owner's daughter. She called her father, the owner, and he assured me that I would receive a refund in a couple of days. I never received the refund. Shortly after, I completed my one year committment to Anytime Fitness and decided to cancel since I didn't receive my refund. I called the Prescott gym and spoke with an employee and he said that he'll cancel it. Well, he didn't I was charged again. I called and asked to speak with the owner, Jonathan. He told me that he would cancel it. Then the next month I was charged again. I called the owner again. I told him that I've tried to cancel 2x and once was through him. He said that he would look into it and call me back later that day. He never called. I found out through my bank that there was nothing I could do to dispute this because they never gave me a cancellation number. They told me that the charges were coming off of my debit card. So, I cancelled my debit card and they issued me a new one. I had to go to great extent just to get them to stop charging me. Just think if they do this to everyone who cancels or people who don't check their bank accounts, they're making a lot of money. They made at least $200 off of me.

Wow... That doesn't seem right!?
We LOVE our Anytime Fitness gym and have never heard this type of stuff from any of the other members.
5 years of being members... We are very happy and recommend to all we know and meet!
Did you use the gym regularly (3-5x weekly) during your 1 year membership?

I eventually had to call my bank to stop the payments. Six months later they were still calling me trying to get the money and I eventually had to threaten them with a lawyer before they stopped.
An additional problem I had with this location was that their tanning beds did not provide protective eye wear, which is crucial for safe tanning. I wonder how many people have experienced sight loss from tanning without goggles.
In conclusion, Anytime Fitness charges twice as much as a normal gym just so you can work out at two a.m. if you want to. They lie about their policies and do not follow necessary precautions with their tanning beds.

I totally disagree with this person. The poeple that work at the monroe and west monroe location are very good about following throough with what they say. My opionon is you just didnt get up with your stuff. You probably did not read over the contract either. Any smart person would have read over the contract before signing it.
And about the tanning beds...if you want to protect your freaking eyes bring your own dang eye protection and quit complaining.
And they do not charge twice as much as other gyms thank you very much...they are a 24/7 gym which is way more convienent than most gyms! We also have FREE TANNING...yeah you didnt mention that in your complaint...so get off what ever your own and deal with it!
People like you really piss the hell out of me!
screwed me out of money after contract was complete
I discontinued my membership to this fitness facility. I gave them in person a cancellation notice and a doctor's note that since I developed an illness I would no longer be able to use the facility. Keep in mind this happened shortly after I became a member. I had only used the facility once. After the year contract was up, this place continued to debit...

I signed up for a one year contract to Anytime Fitness in Parsippany, NJ. I became pregnant and my job transfered me from the Parsippany, nj location and was no longer able to continue membership. My contract ended in July but when I called to cancel they said I signed up for automatic renewal and sent a letter to cancel. It is December and they continue to...

In Livermore, CA we paid our almost $200 processing fee to Anytime Fitness Livermore and it's been 6 months and they haven't opened. I've called them numerous times and no one answers the phone. I've emailed them and no one responds. When we signed up, they said at the end of July 2008 the site will open, then they said October 1st 2008. It's the middle of Fall and we signed up before Summer, and we've never been inside!
They invited us to a "Pre-Grand Opening", which was sooo lame. 3 people were there. I suspect they had the party to calm the customers, some of who have been waiting 8 months. At the "party" they wouldn't give tours of the facility like they promised, but instead allowed us to look in the window.
It's so dumb. I drive by everyday and see everything ready to go. I'm getting nervous like they might close up and steal our money.

Thank you so much to all of you that take the time to post good or bad. I was thinking of signing my daughter and myself at the anytime fitness in springtown.
I can't really afford it but I thought it would be good for us since the only man I will ever love left and I just have a lot of time and a lot of pie.
You could contact the Franchises Corporate Personnel @ www.anytimefitness.com.
Have any of you contacted the home office ? It is a franchsie and I am sure they will get to the situation? driving by doesnt do any good and if your "getting scared" then call the FRANCHISE HOME OFFICE . And with no services provided within a reasonable amount of time they should refund your money.
Same here, calls and emails have been unanswered, the opening date pushed out and no one to comment. If they won't open before December I'll ask for my money back. All of it.
took 6 months to cancel
My contract states that I would not be automatically renewed when my contract expired. Guess what? It was automatically renewed. I first contacted my individual AF branch and asked to cancel...it took 3 months for them to respond to me. Apparently no one at White Bear returns phone calls. When they finally called back after sending several letters they said I would need to contact Apex Mgmt. I did. However, Apex needed something in writing. So I faxed over a signed cancellation notice. "They never received it." I faxed a 2nd and a 3rd notice. I just called and I still owe for those months in between when they never received my notice. Hopefully I won’t get charged again in July. I will not recommend this gym to anyone.

Anytime is the worst ever. It's been 4 months and I still cannot get out of my billing.
I cancelled my membership and was told I only have 2 pay 250 and that would b the end of it not the 428 I was originally told I had to pay so I paid that and now 2 months later I have anytime fitness debt collecting agency telling me that there is no record of me paying the 250 and that im on my final warning and if I don't pay the 428 they will commence legal action Tuggeronong anytime fitness is dodgy and is run by scammers
My wife and I signed up about 2.5 years ago in Henderson, KY. I enrolled in the Silver Sneakers Program because my insurance would pay my fees. I was not responsible for anything. Well, we moved out of the state and just this month, I receive a call from ABC. They tell me that they tried to withdraw my membership fees but the bank would not let them. They explain the me that I am responsible for all fees and late fees. Now, they were never given any account information for myself. They only had my insurance. Yet, they deemed it necessary to try and take money from my account? This is illegal.
Some of these posts are utterly ridiculous. Nick Gio, I bet you are right. I bet the Franchise owner of that Anytime decided to steal your identity and risk his entire business for it. There is no way it could have been an identity thief... They are so ethical. You all need to grow up. You made a choice to join a gym. You then chose to quit and cry about it. When I signed a contract for the Marines I saw a crap ton of people just like you. Guess what though, they served 4 years of their life anyway. Most of which would tell you they wouldnt change for the world looking back. So stop crying about a contract you either did not read, or read and decided to sign anyway. I went to collections for a gym once. It was MY fault! I forgot to transfer my info to my reissued bank card that I lost while being away from home. I bet half of you chain smoke like 2 packs a day and are the same ones crying about the dollar a day you pay someone to keep a gym open for your use WHENEVER you want or need it! Cry babies. I try to find USEFUL info online and I have to sift through all of this garbage. Youre pathetic if you cant take responsibility for yourself and your own actions.
YOU SOUND LIKE AN OLD HAG. REST UR NECK, MAKE SIFT THRU UR POINTLESS RESPONSE, AS IF THE OTHERS WERENT ENOUGH. GO FLOCK WITH THE FEATHERS JAR HEAD
Make sure you also obtain a police fraud / ID Theft crime report
Anytime fitness uses unethical and illegal business practices. I never signed a contract or became a member in anyway, shape or form yet today I got an alert that a new account was added to my credit report. I checked and apparently Anytime fitness has taken the liberty to fraudulently create an account using my information, has not contacted me and now turned this account (which is not mine and I did not authorize) over to a collection agency.
This is identity theft, illegal and unethical to say the least. Now I must spend my time to fight and have this removed from my credit. I also will be pursuing legal action against Anytime fitness for fraud.
I signed up and was rushed through the contract portion in order to be able to have 10 minutes with the co-owner in order to see the equipment as the owners wanted to leave. I mistakenly (my bad) signed the autorenewal and in March of 2010 my contract should have been over. When I went to return the key, the key would not open the door, so I assumed ( oops, wrong again!) that my contract had expired and my key deactivated. Now, 8 months later, the company is still taking money from my account and I am told the only thing they will do is offer me a free year at AF. Hmmmmm...time for someone to look into the AF billing practices...
Same thing happened here in Devils Lake, ND just a few weeks ago. It is the "trainer" there though and I have no argument against Anytime Fitness actually.
For those of you who have complaints with Anytime Fitness, was the reason given that it was company policy or corporate policy. I am investigating opening up an Anytime Fitness, and am trying to get as much info as I can about that company. Any and all replies are welcome. Please reply by posting to this board, and I will get notification that a post has been made.
After working in the fitness industry, I can say with 99% certainty that the majority of complaints posted here are made by overweight people who want to cancel their membership because it cut into their fast food and Pepsi Budget. You sign an agreement when you buy a car, buy a phone, start internet service, etc., etc, etc, . Using a health clubs services is no different. If you guys would put the damned cookies down you may hit some of your fitness goals and stop complaining about paying a dollar a day for a fitness club membership.
Did anyone ever take legal actions to settle their problems with Anytime trashness?
they ripped me off
I signed up at a local Anytime Fitness in Denver Colorado on May 6, 2008 and was only able to work out for 2 weeks. On May 29, 2008 the owner (Glenn Alvarez) packed up and left town. They even waited to cash my check until the day after they left and now I am out of luck! I filed complaints with the Attorney General, but nothing will ever be done cause they didn’t steal enough money from me!
The Anytime Fitness Corporate Office did nothing to help me either.
Make sure you know who you are doing business with!

Our grandson wanted a week membership before going back to school in another state. He didn't get a key FOB, never once set foot in the gym and we got a bill for $736.42 some months later from a collection agency. Anytime Fitness is a scam!
Having moved and signed up as a last minute decision without doing research I regrettably am now paying 2 gym memberships due to my AF location being dirty, smelly, and the keyless entry being unreliable. Also regrettably I called for pricing and was told they were offering a special of $17.50 monthly. So me being in a hurry myself and being rushed to initial with little to no explanation by the manager am now paying $17.50 twice monthly. Imagine. Again I take my responsibility for not reading as well as I should have. I have never seen an internet search that does not go straight to the company website but instead takes you to hundreds of forums like this and links to AF scams and complaints. While my situation is mostly my fault true enough...where there is smoke there is fire and there's a whole lot of smoke surrounding this franchise. I definitely understand the rumors that they are going under and it seems that they should
During workout triceps cable is broken and my hand hot fracture till the day anytime noida sector 26 not even ask about my health they don’t care about members health i want quite anytime fitness please give me back my membership fee

Very disappointed
Hi,
I am Aanchal, member of Anytime fitness east patel nagar, New delhi.
I am being forced to pay some security charges of Rs 1000 which i wasn't informed at the time of my joining.
This should be informed during joining and if i have to pay also then it should with my next renewal and not like middle of month.
This is very disappointing
I tried to cancel my membership due to relocation. They are not honoring their contracts as written. Very dishonest business. Never was a phone call returned.
I am moving to NC and I got a membership there in North wilksburo a couple weeks ago. Paid $85 and I am in Iowa this week gathering my stuff to move to NC. I can't use my access to other locations!? This is not right, so far my overview of anytime fitness is poor..

I wish I had known about this website and read your complaint prior to signing up. I paid one year in advance at the time I signed up. I took my preteen daughter with me one evening. The next thing you know, I received an email telling me they have a zero tolerance for "tailgaiting" policy and that no one under 16 can be in the gym when it is not staffed. Further, they threatened to fine me $50 for this "first offense" and warned the second offense would result in membership termination. Funny, when I signed up and paid almost $500, no mention was made regarding "tailgaiting". In fact, when I returned for the health screening, the employees asked me where my daughter was!
