I had the misfortune of being employed at AutoZone for about a year. Because I did not perform due diligence on the company, its employees and their well documented complaints from both sides of the parts counter, I got what I deserved. After speaking with countless current & former employees from other areas of the country, it's painfully evident that it is company policy to lie, cheat & steal from employees and customers alike. Their house brand product (Duralast) is marginal at best and downright garbage at the least.
Management, from Store Managers, District Managers, Regional Managers and Regional VP's will do or say anything to keep employees under thumb and have no intentions of following through on any commitments made from the hiring process forward.
If you're not familiar with the movie "They Live" by John Carpenter, rent it, put on the glasses & don't drink the Kool-Aid.

Govern yourself accordingly, for it is an atrocious work environment by design. Had I come to a site like this before joining the company, I would have deemed my post as one from a disgruntled whiner, as I'm sure some of you are doing right now. Join them, you'll see. Don’t you dare contact HR or you will be fired at minimum or worst case, set up and arrested for theft or falsifying documents. Fortunately neither happened to me, but there are many others who didn't get out in time.
The only thing that scares AZ to its very foundation is the prospect of a Union.
I used to think Unions were only needed in Henry Ford's time on account of his well known abuses of employees. After my experience there, and listening to the Human Resource Regional Managers speak about the subject at annual sales meetings, that's all they're concerned about. No lawsuits or negative publicicty will have ANY effect on their sales.
It only takes 2 employees at 1 location to join a union and then the union will have a foot in the door to go nationwide & represent the poor SOB's who have the misfortune of working for AZ.
As a former 26 year veteran of AutoZone ask me about the employee abuses. rjohnson@bigriver.net
Since I worked in the corporate office many years I would agree Unions are the thing they are most afraid of. Something must be done to prevent others from being cheated out of pay, bonuses and retirement contributions
I was there for 4 years and walked out the door, this company could care less about people, I was the go to guy as I was a red shirt to store manager in less then a year and then due to problems at home I step down to part time as a PSM but still worked a full time slate there. I just took over the inventory management program, but I was question by LP over a stupid autozone reward card that had been scanned too many times, thats what they said, I know them I had no ideas how it happen and was told it would go to LP head quarters to see if I kept my job, so I know them to take it and stick in there ### and walk out the door. The whole time by DM just sat there the whole time and said nothing, what a boneless, spineless person she is, can believe she is in charge of other people. I will never go back and will try to stop other people from going there. What a joke she is...
Autozone is the tyranny of evil man. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this company and everything horrible in the world to say. They lie cheat and steal every chance they get. I have been there 8 years and kick myself everyday I go to work. I live in a state with absolutely no employment protection. The company will send me a 8 year pin and a 3 year pin in the same month. They tell prospective employers that I've only been with the company 3 years despite the fact that I have w two's to say otherwise. The state government will do absolutely nothing about this. They basically told me I should be a good slave and keep my mouth shut. I'm thinking it's time for a union!
i was a store manager for over 5 yrs. i took a store wit a lot of problems, yet my witt and kpi's were #2 in my district, and my shrink was always below 1. my rm and the head of lp liked what i did, but then az changed our region. i heard from the other stores the new rm had an attitude, so when he came to my store i had a recorder. he said things like "i hadn't earned a paycheck in 5 years." i gave 3 weeks notice, and contacted hr. after 4/20/12 which was my last day, az canceled my health insurance. i found out from my dentist, yet my 5/11/12 paycheck still had health benefits being taken out. i contacted the benefit dept. and was told i was no longer an employee. i wrote a letter and no response. does anyone know who to report this to?
