gift cards
I received several gift cards for Christmas. All have worked well except one. It was purchased at a local grocery store. It was valid only for two months? All the others did not have an expiration date. When contacted, customer service said it was a promotional gift card? To say the least I'm very disappointed in this company with as much money as I have spent there.
problem with gift card
I tried to use 2 gift cards to make a purchase, the first card only had 6.00 left on it, so when I applied the other card which had a full amount on it, it wouldnt accept it.I spoke to customer service twice, they said the card had full amount on it but became locked during my use of it.They told me it would take a couple of days before it would be unlocked and usable. I have always gotten gift cards from BN as gifts from friends, after this waist of time I will make sure that they use Amazon gift cards. I am not a member my email is [protected]@gmail.com
renewal
I, like other customers, have just discovered that Barnes & Noble automatically renewed my membership to the tune of $25, debiting that amount from my bank account. I do not recall ever giving them permission for an automatic renewal. Same was not brought to my attention, nor was I sent a notice or email of same. I called and the woman said, "sorry for the inconvenience". I advised her it was more than an inconvenience and more akin to fraud. That didn't seem to phase her. I've always liked Barnes & Noble and used to spend a lot of time there, but not so much anymore. Is this how B&N is trying to make up for lost revenues from book sales? This makes me so upset I may not ever shop there again. Just operate honestly and advise your customers when they purchase a membership, they have to opt out. And, I purchased many discount memberships over a 20 yr. period of time, and this is the first time they had a "forced" opt in.
hacked account
I hardly ever use B&N online to order. Last time I did was mid 2018, and everything went well with that purchase. Checking my email one day, I notice an email saying my order had shipped. Went to check my account, and someone had hacked my account and ordered a Harry Potter Set for a total charge of $76.67! Went my wonderful Bank of America, and they said we'll help you--AFTER you talk to Barnes and Noble. So I called the Sales Audit Dept. Spoke with a man, froze my account, said a refund would be coming to my account. Two weeks later, nothing. Called again, spoke with a woman who told me there was a problem processing that refund, but that she would put a rush on it and it should be back in my account 24 hrs later, and she'd send me a gift card. We're now over 24 hrs later, and still no refund. This is absolutely ridiculous! So I'm going to give them until Monday, and then I'm calling them back. I can tell you I will NEVER shop B&N online ever again, and once I use the gift card, IF it actually shows up, I'm done with them forever. It's too much hassle and not enough reward. I don't understand how they could so quickly take the money from my account for someone in Oklahoma (I'm in Georgia, never been to Ok in my life) yet drag their feet returning it to me after I prove the fraud. No wonder all these stores go under. They don't care about the consumer, only their money, and they don't care if it's fraudulent or not.
auto renewal of b&n membership
I do not want to renew this membership for $25 that is being charged on my credit card. Please cancel membership. Please do not use this credit card again.
You have closed you bethesda store. I no longer go to any b&n
This was not a good move, to close the only bookstore in bethesda.
Please submit a credit to my credit card account listed with b&n

I did a mistake in my order and try to cancel the same day-not possible. once ordered its locked in.
[protected] -order number
Postage and tax charged when on the website it was promoted 'postage free'. It turned out that free postage was only for US customers.
I did see the charge on the final invoice but I pressed the wrong button and then I tried to cancel the order. No way. Once its locked in, they would not cancel. I was told that I can send the order back- however I would have to pay postage (Australia to USA) . I recommend -be very careful when dealing with this company, do not make any mistakes.
This the was the answer to my attempt to stoping the order:
"Thank you for writing to us.
Once an order has started our fulfillment process, it cannot be cancelled.
Once you receive your order, you may return it to our warehouse. After we have received the package, we will issue a full refund for the item to your original method of payment".
O, they also charge me taxes.
I will not be dealing with this company in the future. Many companies have' change your mind' time, this does not.

membership renewal
I am a long time member (#[protected]). I received a renewal notice on Dec 21, 1918 and I have used the automatic renewal feature with my credit card and this year I edited the credit card to a new card and received an email confirming the change. When I went in to purchase some items on Dec. 30 I was told my membership was expiring on Jan. 16. They didn't have a record of the renewal so when I got home I called the customer service # on the back of my membership card and renewed on the phone with the same new credit card #. Again I received an email confirming the updated information. Yesterday I went in to the store to purchase a book and when I gave them my phone# [protected]) they said my membership had expired in 2010! I checked my bank statement and the charge did not go through. This credit card is valid and I've used it several times. I called again this morning (Jan. 2, 2019) and was told the credit card did not go through and they would try to run it through one week before my membership expires on Jan. 16. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on instead! I am frustrated and angry that this can't be resolved and then to be hung up on after years of being a loyal member was just too much. Please help resolve this issue.

online order
on 12/14 I received a book I ordered, only to find it had been used. There were "used" stickers all over the outside of the book and writing on the inside of the book. I contacted Barnes and Noble twice, only to be told that I would have to pay shipping to send the used book back. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! I have been shopping with Barnes and Noble for years and have never been treated so poorly. I have disputed the charge with my bank and will also file a complaint with consumer affairs. Please see attached photos.
workers
I work right next store to your store in Jordan landing in Utah and I occasionally stop in and look around while waiting for the bus and this location watches me everywhere I go even though I spend money and it really irritates me I never stole from you guys and I never will and you did it to me at the store in Murray Utah as well and I spent $60 there I just don't think it's right
an online order
My order number is [protected]. I was charged for a cookbook I ordered back in June of this year and I never received an email confirmation that it was shipped. I am requesting a refund for my order. I have contacted customer service three times and no one has been able to process my refund. They are denying my refund because it has been past 30 days from the time I purchased the item.
farmingdale college bookstore
On September 4, 2018, I returned back to the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on my campus to return a rental book I was advised by my professor that I did not need. I was well within the return deadline. The people at this store have done everything they possibly could to be sure they do not have to give me any kind of refund. First they asked me for a receipt. I told them I wasn't sure where the receipt was, but that I used my financial aid to rent the book. Maybe they could just look it up through that. They said no. Fine, their attitude is already one like, "I'm busy and you're not getting any money back, so hurry up so I can get back to doing other things". So then I ask if I can at least check the book in, this way when I find the receipt I'd be able to give it to them and they would have the book. They said yes you can do that. So I did. This morning (September 10, 2018), I went back to the bookstore to give them the receipt for the refund, and they tell me, oh since the book is checked in, we can't give you a refund. What? I wasn't going to argue with them because they would have loved that, and I am not going to make a scene on my college campus. So I have a rental that I don't need, returned within the time frame stipulated, had for a total of about 4 days, and now I am paying $95.00 for it because they keep finding ways not to refund my money. I don't know about you, but $95 is A LOT of money to me. This bookstore carries books that are tailored specifically for the school for some classes, and therefore you can only buy them at the bookstore (like lab books). I think it's disgusting that they take advantage of students who can barely pay for college, let alone books, working full-time jobs while going to school just to try to get an education, and these people charge astronomical rates for these books and know you can only but them there. Then if you ask for your money back, you get the runaround so they don't have to give it to you. I wish I could say I will never buy a book from that store again, but I know I will have to, for the reason stated above. This store is not student friendly AT ALL. They are money friendly. All they want is money, with no regard for students or trying to help them with their education. Ok, these people got me for $95.00. But in return I promise you, I will do my absolute best to give all students on my campus alternatives to this store whenever possible, if I have to buy the books myself and hand deliver them to their homes. They aren't trying to capitalize off some big company with hundreds of millions of dollars, they are trying to take money from broke students, working 2 or 3 jobs, sharing rooms, eating ramen noodles, just to get an education. Me? I'm sure I'll live, but the loss of this money did hurt me, yes, and it was very unfair to say the least. I'm going to spend my free time on the weekends and whenever I can find it, researching and putting together a website to give everyone less expensive and more friendly alternatives than this Barnes and Noble store. This store is just a greedy rip off and when I finish school, I won't set foot in another Barnes and Noble store, not even to buy a cup of coffee.
return book-louisiana state university at alexandria
I am a student at Louisiana State University of Alexandria. I rented CRIMINAL JUSTICE:INTRODUCTION
By ADLER. The return date was for a date during the term of the class. I was told not to worry because they were aware. I have tried to return the book but was unable to print the label. I called the bookstore and was told the book is mine because I did not return the book by 8/24/18. I was never told a specific date to return. I am appalled at how I was treated. It is not my fault regarding the incorrect date of 8/2/18. I should not be responsible for this book and I want to return it. It can be reached at [protected] or porter.[protected]@yahoo.com. My order number was #[protected]-1
When I asked the young lady for a telephone number to corporate, she stated she could not give it to me. I had to locate it online. I cannot believe this.
online order & pick up in store
I ordered a book with pick up in store using a 15% off coupon I'd received in my email only to have Barnes & noble cancel it, do I tried to reorder it & my coupon was rejected saying I'd already used it on my previous order. I contacted customer service about it because why should I not be able to pay the amount I'd already agreed upon. They keep asking me to send them my order number & coupon code do they can research the problem. Now they haven't contacted me since so I wrote them again only to be ignored. I'll be ordering my book on Amazon now.
barnes & noble at roger williams university bookstore
Is this the proper way to make a complaint about a Barnes and Noble at a university? If so I need to complain about the incredibly rude staff working at Roger Williams Barnes and Noble, they were missing paperwork needed to allow me to buy books with my veteran educational benefits and I completely understand that is not their fault. However I wanted to know if there was any way I could get at least on of the books for now in order to prepare homework that is due tomorrow morning, but the store manager told me that it was my problem and not hers. This is not the first time the store manager has been rude to me, but this is the worst time and it is incredibly unprofessional.

Hello my name is Tyrisha Blackwood . I am a children's author and my book titled : The Cupcake Gang is currently being sold on the Barnes and noble website. My publisher as well as myself have made numerous attempts to schedule a book signing /story time session at the location in deptford, NJ with no response at all . This is highly offensive and unprofessional . I can be reached at [protected] or by email Ty.[protected]@icloud.com

awful environment
The Barnes & Noble store in NE DC, on Michigan Ave plays offensive music. It's very disturbing for readers and patrons of the branch to shop/read comfortably with curse words, and derogatory language blasting in the background. This is a place where families gather to read to children, students study for exams, and commuters engage in work related meetings/assignments. We should not be subject to the discomfort of this environment. This will cause a loss of revenue due to the disturbance within this space.
cafe
I typically go to the BN cafe at Kean University. I have a 5:30 - 9:30 clas, and the only thing I need to get me through is a snack and some coffee, particularly a macchiato. When I brazed out Garden State Parkway traffic to get there at 4:53 they told me they turned off the machine already. The second time I got there at 4:50 ordered a spinach pretzel and was told it will be cold because the ovens are off already. The third time, I beat my time arriving at 4:47 ordered a macchiato and was told the machine was shut off. I was completely disgusted at the policy that the young lady said the store manager told them to shut down. I explained to her that with my retail experience the store usually stays open, and is fully functional until closing and it is at that time that things get shut down and closing begins. I do not like the service in the book store but have been pleased with the service at the cafe. However, it I am to get there 25 minutes prior to closing to order my items to get me through a four hour class is ridiculous. I would like this policy changed to either be a full service cafe until 5:00 pm or close at 4:30.
nook book pre order
I checked my bank account today on 62718 there was 499 missing out of my account and my account was then in the negative. I then called Barnes & Noble and I had to speak to I don't remember the first girl's name but then I spoke to James Clint and Ed. All I wanted was the 499 put back into my account not even concerned about the bounced fees. I was asked repeatedly if anyone had access to my account and I told them all four of them know no one has access to my account. I did not pre-order any book on December 20th 2017 I think it is ridiculous that I had to go through for people and be questioned over 499. I will never be ordering from Barnes & Noble ever again and I will not suggest Barnes & Noble to anyone that I know.
gift card redemption
Dear Sir or Madam:
I wish to complain about the gift card mishap that I have experienced.
I ordered 1 Book and used a $50.00 Gift Card # [protected] Pin 3932 in the amount of $26.43.
I tried to use the rest of it on another order and was told that the gift card and Pin number is invalid. I am out $23.57. I never have trouble with Amazon .
I wrote a letter on June 10, 2018 and no response was received.
book order; received wrong book
I ordered Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams at Home and received instead Digital Logic with Verilog Design. Although both books are within a similar content area I still won't excuse the slip. My mistake was ordering this as a guest which makes a return more difficult. I could retrace my sale history through my payment method but it is hardly worth it for the $6.00 sale price of this book. Barnes & Noble has lost me as a customer but I suppose that is true with many other customers as well. Paradoxically, I don't think they will exist much longer to experience this loss.
