nurses serving outside of their licensed scope, forces disclosure of confidential history
When checking in to donateI was experiencing anxiety, in just the first month I was often deferred from donating on multiple single-day visits.
When I asked to speak to a nurse because I had been wasting my time driving 25 minutes in to donate, I spoke with Janae in the Loveland, CO Biolife center.
As I was explaining my symptoms, she claimed that I mislead them in my initial screening and that the anxiety I reported was actually PTSD. She deferred me, but didn't even have the courage to tell me until I called them the next day because I wasn't able to schedule an appt.
I had to go back over to the center to obtain the forms to have my doctor sign, and all of the staff knew who I was and that I was going to argue because 1) the scope of a nurse is not to make a diagnosis, 2) I'm going to advocate for my own medical history, 3) I've been forced to disclose violence history to multiple people as this has risen up the chain of command, yet no one will actually do anything.
My PhD level therapist of more than two years who knows my diagnosis and sees me weekly, filled out the form; but of course it was not approved at the Loveland, CO center.
At this point, I'm awaiting a call back from their Corporate owner since no member of management has been willing to talk to me longer than a few minutes on the phone.
tricked into being banned from donating
I had donated close to a dozen times with no problems. I had never had any problems with staff or anything like that minus 1 or 2 that could be in a bad mood and be a little rude sometimes. I donated like normal and got a hematoma at the end of my donation and could not recieve the fluid treatment at the end. I couldn't receive it on the other arm because they had already tried to hook me up to donate on that side and failed and they apparently aren't allowed to stick you more than twice on one arm to find a vein in one sitting according to their policy (this is what the workers told me). I had a reaction from not getting my fluids back (nausea, dizziness, seeing spots, low blood pressure). They gave me gatorade and I sat in the nurse's office. They suggested I go to the hospital to get my fluids back so I would feel better since they aren't allowed to stick me more to try to get an iv drip in. I really did not want to go; i'm a college student who pays for most things on my own and though I have medical insurance through my parents, it has always been hard for them to pay our medical bills and an er visit is usually no less than $100 for us. I only lived maybe 8 minutes away and felt confident I could drive home and just go to bed, but they urged me to go. I let them convince me to go. All the hospital did was give me fluids and run basic testing, everything was fine, I left. Felt like a waste of money to me to begin with. A few days passes, I get a call checking in on me from biolife, tell them everything is fine and that I only got fluids there. They tell me just bring my release papers in and I can donate again. A couple more days pass because i'm busy with school work, I get another call from them telling me I am not welcome back due to their doctors orders. Shocked, I inquire why to be told they don't feel comfortable having me to donante again where I went to the hospital following a donation. I never wanted to go to the hospital in the first place and I never would have went if I knew I was going to be punished for it. Everyone failed to tell me this would or may happen at the time. I can easily explain why I was feeling bad and had that reaction, but because I let their staff convince me to go to the hospital when I never wanted to in the first place and knew I would have been fine if I hadn't, I am now banned from donating because they care more about me being a potential liability over a perfectly normal easily scientifically comprehensive reaction. The doctor in question is not adequately screening my health, but apparently is more concerned about covering their [censored]. From a legal standpoint, of course that makes sense, but is it [censored]ty? Absolutely, especially when this event is 100% simple and explainable (low fluids will make you nauseous and dizzy). I feel tricked and mislead and am incredibly disappointed. I thought these people were truly looking out for me only for them to now want nothing to do with me that I acted on their suggestion and me having went to the hospital makes them look bad. I will be trying to speak to someone higher up.
coupon payment
Got coupon emailed to me in october for an additional $75, paid out in $15 increments for my 6th through 10th donation. I turned it in on the 9th of october expecting that the following week would be my 6th donation for the month. Now i'm being told that the coupon was not turned in to go into effect until the 6th donation from that date! That is total bs... You make thousands off that plasma & millions yearly from donations of plasma! The coupon said nothing about turning it in immediately to be paid! Never going back unless this is corrected to my 6th through 10th donation of this month of october! Not day coupon got turned in!
wrong amount
Today I visited the douglasville, ga center and they gave me the wrong amount. Last night I check my appointment and it said my next appointment was $80 which was my last appointment. This morning I get up and go and they only gave me $20. The nurse asked what happened and I explained that I had an appointment friday and they turned me away because my iron needed to be 38 but it was 37. I rescheduled and came back the following day. I tried to make the appointment for monday the app would not let me make that appointment so I made it for tuesday. Then they tell me that they're going to call it to get it fixed but then he calls me and says they cant change it. When ive been consistent with donations. I even referred people to them. I think that it is unfair that they treat their donors like that. And its clearly a gimmick with all their locations because its multiple complaints about it. So do yall fix the problem or just dont care that you guys use people and manipulate them?
your phone is a joke
I have a appointment scheduled for noon today there's no way I can get there by that time that's an open bar they have a lot of different appointment times but when I called the phone number is the reach anyone because there's no directory there's no people I talk to madison yesterday she was very nice call me back this in a complaint yes I have a complaint [protected]
false readings/rudeness
I just started in september, I gave 2 times a week I did the new visitor $500 it was my $80 week all is good I had a rough patch due to my iron was very low but I got it maintained. Well my score was always 39 or 38 that is passing at biolife until I went to biolife and had veronica, at first my pulse was high 101 only 2 points cause I literally just walked in the heat and it's hot here in florida, I asked her if I could have 10 mins she looked at me and said ten mins? No honey you get 5mins when I was told previous of times I could have 10 mins to sit and chill cause it has been high before (note it is almost closing time for the facility) she then said to me that she wants to check and make sure everything is ok before I sit out for 5 mins... So she did and she looked at me and said i'm sorry you can't give today I said why she said your iron is to high its 55! My iron is what? That's impossible my iron is always low.. She then said you can always try again tomorrow and don't take your iron pills today so it can lower it tomorrow... I said um.. Ok? Went home that day and it wasn't high at all but I thought maybe it's different from how I test my iron from theirs. So I live in plant city which is a long drive to lakeland and it's a lot of gas wasted when going to biolife. So, I made another appointment and went this is the last day for my $80 or it'll expire and pulse was good but sure enough my iron was super low... Another day wasted in gas and $80.00 gone.. I told a supervisor she wrote down notes very nice lady. But what about the gas lost? The $80.00 that I didn't get because of someone who said to not take something so I can get a better rating? So its today october 10th and I came to give... I get here and I walk in and I can't do a questionnaire I have to see the nurse... Went to talk to her and she said my pulse is to high a couple of times and if it is again then I can't give anymore.. But my pulse was good yesterday? I'm confused... She said well then there should be no problem... Well I get my turn and the cuff kept on filling up with air... It could read my pulse says right there on the screen.. My arm is turning purple and I finally tell the associate that its turning and she says oh another lady says try the other arm... Because the lady couldn't find a way to put the cuff on she said we are gonna stay with this arm... My arm is hurting from the cuffs air from no reading it finally stops and says 120! But the cuff never filled with air it didn't even squeeze my arm... She still put it in the system and said "go sit in time out" like i'm a child... I explained to her it didn't even squeeze my arm? She said that's what it gave me sorry.. So I go sit down then I said I have oils in my car i'll go get them that'll help me calm down (if it's really that high which it isnt) well as I was coming back in I asked if my time was up cause they haven't called me she replies with once you leave you are deferred I said what? I didn't leave I went to go to my car for my oils to help me calm down? That's when she said sorry you can try again tomorrow! This is absolutely ridiculous no one informed me on that or i'll never have left to my car.. They don't know how to properly use the equipment then they shouldn't be able to work here.. They need to inform their guest better and be more nice on how they talk to people.. I won't ever come back it's to stressful and waste of gas. Maybe if they have one closer but nope i'm done.. I do want my $80.00 that was straight wrong for what that chick did.
Did you get the $80? They did the same thing to me. This is ridiculous.
payment/frequency bonus not received
In september there was a bonus to get an additional $70 on the 8th donation.
On my 7th donation they missed my vein so they tried adjusting a few times but had to go to the other arm. After they switched arms, the donation was going fine for a pass or two and then the machine started acting as if I needed to pump my fist hard but it wasn't responding at all. They didn't know why it wasn't doing anything. It didn't show any numbers and the side screen was just flasing red. All they could figure was that it was a clot due to the time it took to adjust the first arm and then switch to the other arm.
I had to wait 30 mins and talk to the doctor before I could leave. When I spoke with him I very specifically asked him about whether or not this would affect my 8th donation bonus in any way. He assured me that it wouldn't and if it did I should call managment and they would have it fixed.
I came back for my second donation on saturday that week which was the 8th donation of the month and when I finished I checked my balance to see if the $120 ($50 for the 2nd donation of the week and the $70 8th donation bonus) had loaded yet and saw that it only loaded $20 as if it was my first of the week and no bonus.
I went to the desk and talked with matt, a supervisor there and explained what happened. He understood and said they could fix it but because he was the only supervisor there he couldn't do the full amount until monday but he could apply $30 for now to at least complete my 2nd donation amount to get me through the weekend. Matt said they need to have two supervisors there to apply over a certain amount due to some precaution they have to make sure no one is stealing or something, so they have limits to what an individual could load to a card. So he said i'd have to wait for it to be completely fixed on monday when two supervisors were there to apply the remaining amount of $70.
He said he'd make a note of it so they'd see it in the morning on monday right away and if not, he said he'd get it fixed at 4pm when he gets in to work.
Monday morning comes, 4pm comes and goes and nothing happened. I called a number of times with no answer so I left a message. No one called back and it was getting later so I drove over in the rain to speak with them.
I told the person at the desk what was going on so he went to get matt but he sent him back saying that it's been corrected and the balance had loaded. I told him that the only thing that loaded was the $30 after I spoke with matt originally. So the guy went back to get matt but he passed me off again this time telling the guy he was busy and i'd have to talk with someone else right now.
So I talked with the other person explaining what was going on but didn't seem to interested in what I had to say. She looked me up and said she doesn't know why they wouldv'e said that because my 7th donation wasn't a full donation so she couldn't just approve it. She said she's giving me $10 for the "inconvenience" and then just sent me on my way. I was told by the doctor on my 7th donation that this wouldn't be an issue. I was then told by matt that they could fix it completely on monday but when I came in asking why it wasn't there yet he passed me off on everyone else and didn't want anything to do with me.
I have been a regular donor for almost two years now going twice every week. I am very upset about this.
That's unfortunate you didn't receive your full $70 frequency bonus when told you would. I'm in Georgia, and the 8th donation frequency bonus in September was only $50, so your clinic must pay more. But it makes sense your 7th donation would've messed up things, because it does say the bonus is for 8 SUCCESSFUL donations. I'm sure it doesn't take the sting out of it since you were told by a staff member you'd receive the full bonus, but getting $40 bonus when the 7th donation was not successful is actually a win for you.
The problem you have is you didn't get what that doctor told you in writing, so Biolife is only going to go according to their terms. Since your 7th donation was NOT successful, they didn't owe you that extra $40. Best thing to do is to talk face-to-face with that doctor who made the false assurance to you.
initial visit/rudeness
On sunday september 30th at 9:45 I visited the middletown oh location for my first appointment. After an hour and 15 minutes I was called back to do my physical. The nurse was extremely rude at introduction and it only got worse as she noticed I had mosquito bites on my arm. I explained that 2 days prior my family had a campfire and I got bit then. She gave me an eye roll, then proceeded to tell me that because of said "bug bites" I wouldn't be a candidate for giving plasma. Buh-bye. I was extremely taken aback by her response. She stared at her computer screen until I awkwardly got up to leave. I was horribly embarrassed and a bit confused as to why I was treated like this. I wanted to do something in my community to give back and my experience was absolutely horrible. Nobody should be treated this way by a professional in what should be a professional setting.
false advertising
It was super slow, no one cared about me, won't let me donate if I was a minute late. It was my second donation, and I had been referred by my fiancé. He was going to get $150 if I made my first donation by the end of one month and my second donation by the end of the next month. I came in for my second donation, the end of the month, and they told me they needed a blood sample because the plasma was unreadable. They then proceeded to tell me I couldn't get the bonus anymore because I couldn't donate that day since they had to send the results to the lab (which would take a week). They did not notify me I needed to have blood drawn and retested, they were very unprofessional. I could not have known this, and wouldn't let me get the extra money because of a mistake on their end.
I was blackmailed by the supervisor matt today.
I latrice johnson had an appointment at bioliife in oshkosh wi at 12:10 pm on 09/22/18. The young last named kaycey had chosen to want my picture changed. I said I don't want to take a picture right now because I was uncomfortable. She walked over to the other side of the counter and told me to come over we're going to take a picture. I said to kaycey. Young lady I just told you I didn't want to take a photo today i'm uncomfortable. The supervisor matt. Butted in and told me that I can take the picture or I can get deferred. I said what did you say? He said you ether take the picture or you can't donate hear. I told him my picture has been the same since i've been donating at biolife & that's basically blackmail. Matt tells me my hair is a different color. I say, ok so I need a new picture everytime I change my hair? He said you can take the picture not donate or be deferred. I said I know that's not tru because my picture has never changed & I change my hair color constantly. He said take the picture or you can't donate hear. Basically blackmailed me into taking a picture because I needed the money, when I clearly did not want to do it. I said I didn't want to take a picture today, I can do it next time when i'm ready. He went on humiliating me in front of the other customers and staff members. I don't know what his problem was with me but i'm not taking this kind of treatment. I've been coming to biolife for over two years. My picture has been the same the hole entire time. I want a law suit filed against biolife and the maneger matt. For publicly humiliating & blackmailing me. As I was donating and observing looks like matt and kaycey seem to like to flirt on the job inappropriately in front of customers. Im not letting go of this foul treatment. I have never been treated like that at a professional establishment. I have contacted a lawyer and I am planning on filing suit about this matter.
the service
Dear bio life plasma team,
I am really easy on anything. A week ago I came in to donate plasma. I went there 4 times before and used every opportunity to go. I told the technican he should be carful because I have rolling veins. He just looked at me and saied nothing as he could do everything. So he missed the veine and tried to put the needle in place for a couple of minutes. Then they went to my other arm and missed. All no problem if they would have just showed attention before and ignored my words. So a day later I got a call that my alpha is one number to high. And I can come back in a week. My app showed me that I can schedule an appointment. I drive 35-40min one way and then the nurse told me we could just do a test and need to wait for the results. Fine by me but all my donation for a bonus was for nothing. When she saw my arms she was kind of shocked and saied we couldn't not even do the test. So I pay for the drive, have bruises all over my arms. Sounds kind of cruel for me.
If you have any offers to make it up I am open to. But I don't see a point in paying to get bruises all over my arms and no help.
There are plenty of other company's who need plasma.
I already wrote a email without getting an answer. I really appreciate an answer.
Thank you very much!

not being able to donate
So. The first time I tried they told me to come back with my social security card this is the second time I have tried to donate and bio life plasma lakeland florida has told me I couldnt donate when I had social security income form with my social and my name. And stamp on it. That should be proof enough to dontate. This is ridiculous. If everyother governmental facility takes it why do they have an issue with it?
customer service people
I was there about a month ago.
They treated me and my kid's like we live in transitional housing.
I walked In and had trouble from the get go. It took 45 minutes to get the paperwork ready since I forgot my SS card.. but I had it on another paper. Guess that wasn't good enough. So after one lady left she wipers in an ear about me. I couldn't make it to the screening process as after she took my BP another lady said, since you don't live in Bellingham I will have to make sure you don't live in Transitional housing..I was like WTF. in front of my kid's. . Guess they care more about where you live than saving lives!
childcare
Went in to donate and after 10 minutes of waiting for them to locate the keys to the playroom, I drop my son off. Stand in line with one person ahead of me. Get screened, proceed to go back to donate and was stopped and told I needed to go get my son from the daycare because they "couldnt handle him". That deferred me from donating for the day on my $50 donation and screwed me out of my $70 8th donation bonus. I'm absolutely appalled. If they are going to offer childcare with your donation they need to spend the time finding someone who can actually handle children. Being a single mom of 4 I NEEDED that money. Ridiculous!
bruises on arms
I went into the biolife plasma center in liberty missouri. As they were doing the finger [censored] and vital signs an arm checks, I have a very tiny bruise on my left arm that is not even near the punture site, where they would stick my vein an they told me I had to use my right arm to donate. I have told them several times that the vein in my right arm is too deep an that if hurts. There should be a waiver form saying that us donors have bruise and we are aware of the bruise an should allow us to use that arm. It is the donors choice to choose which arm they want an should be allowed to do so even if there is small bruising. I can understand a bad horrible bruise is a no go, but a small bruise that's not even in the punture site, I think we should be allowed to use that arm.
the money paid to me and the attitude I received from the nurse abee
I returned after two years to donate and was treated badly by your assistant manager chad and your nurse abiee. I was having an issue with payment so I was discussing this with chad and abiee insisting on screaming across the side my personal issue privacy act and continued in front of chad asking me an I mad rudely in front of other donors. I tried to change my password as I forgot my old one and the website for kyle, tx will not allow me to change it. When I hit the submit button, it says "oops, error." therefore I have quit going to give plasma, wondered if you could help, website is not very user friendly. I am sure it is something simple, but I have tried numerous passwords and it never works.

plasma donation
Ok... I was wanting to call and talk to someone over this but, of coarse, that was an automated system. So I was going to submit the compliant here but I see that none of these complaints have even been reviewed or commented on.
So i'm calling my attorney!
But anyway my problem is;
I went to donate plasma at your joplin, mo location and even though I had all the required paperwork, met all physical requirements this company discriminates against me because I have only one arm. I've donated to other plasma centers in the past and this was not a problem nor should it even be debated. It's not my fault I lost my arm. It was lost in a car wreck a few years ago so it's not like i'm a diabetic with health issues. You say it's because I have to have the other arm for an additional vein but let's be honest... You can put an iv in several places on the human body in the event that I actually needed fluids during transfusion (not that I ever have needed that!) i'm as healthy as a horse. Not to mention, if maybe I would have been able to talk to a live representative when I tried calling yesterday you could have told me this before I wasted my gas driving there in hope to get money for gas and groceries, but it was another automated service! So I read the material you have on the internet and nowhere did it have any clauses about one-armed people not being able to donate. Which I don't blame you because it kind of makes y'all look like horrible people, but atleast you wouldn't have wasted the last bit of money I had on gas to drive all the way there (38 miles)
This rule needs to be abolished!
It is ridiculous!
bloomington biolife
I had an appointment at 12:30 and finished the process and got a chair by 12:45. I watched 4 other people come in after me and get hooked up. I waited 30 mins and still no one came to hook me up so I left. There was 4 employees in the section I was but they skipped over me. This is honestly ridiculous, busy or not you are supposed to do the ones that have been waiting the longest.
treated like a criminal
Went in the snellville location to donate plasma the front secretary made my mother feel like she was a criminal because her drivers license had her maiden name, but her social doesn't. The secretary was rude and unwelcoming. From the beginning when we walked in myself my mother and my son the environment was uncomfortable. We were told that my son could not sit in the waiting room because he was not giving blood. According to the website that it's not a requirement that a none donor can't sit in the waiting area. We return today 8/14/18 only have them fake check our arms and tell but us we don't have good veins in one of our arms. This was the worst experience as a person who trying to donate for a good cause.
