unexpectedly closed accounts
First I received a letter in the mail for each of my bank accounts, from citibank, stating it will close on June 15, 2019. After calling the citigold number the woman directs me to the local branch. I go into the branch and they tell me to contact my rep manager who is not at this branch location. So I wait for a call from her as this branch tells me they have sent all the information over, and nothing. So a few days I call the woman myself. I leave a message. She then calls me back and eventually I am informed that the "back office" has decided to close my accounts because of the way I deposit cash. I explained to the woman, that when I deposit I just do multiple transactions to keep everything separate on my end, such as someone who owed me money for something I charged on my card. She also informed me I use zelle, apple pay, square too much.
I let her know why I deposit the way I do and she asked if I would be willing to ask whomever owes me money to write me a check or send money through zelle, and I told her yes I could, however how is that not different than what I am currently doing?!
My parents have a business in which square is part of their business, this goes into an account my name is on, I even told her I could move that to a business account to make things easier and separate; even though when we file taxes its under our SSN and not a business EIN.
So after her speaking on my behalf to the "back office" she tells me they are staying with their decision. Not once was I informed that my debit card would stop working, or that i could not access anything online. So I couldn't do anything with my account.
So I go in on June 14th, close out all 5 of my accounts, and go on my merry way.
Fast Forward to July 10, 2019 I get an email saying one of my bills didn't go through onto my credit card, so I check on my citibank app and it shows all of my accounts have been close. NO WARNING, NO LETTER, NO CALL, NOTHING. How embarrassing! I have a few bills that I autopay that couldn't go through. WHY would citibank be doing something like this to someone? at least inform me so I can make sure all my bills are being paid.
So I have since wrote a letter asking why this is happening, since no one can give me a reason over the phone, which is so stupid. Isn't there a person who will have to read my letter and respond to me? Can't that person just answer that over the phone? Doesn't make any sense to me. If anything they need to send the letter stating why without us having to ask. Of course we want to know why our accounts have been closed. I had 8 different accounts with citibank, and 4 bank accounts, I loved everything about citibank and would always refer people to the bank, but after this I feel like citibank has robbed me of everything. I did not have 1 delinquent account, and always made sure my card was paid in full every month and on time. Is that the problem? That I pay on time and citiabnk wants the people who dont pay on time to get their money?
And my last complaint... I have the costco citi visa which i earn cash back for my purchases and also the double cash card. Both have cash back that I have earned, I should have a right to that. I called and asked how to retrieve that cash, and was told "because your accounts are closed you forfeit that money" UMM, excuse me! First of all, had I been told citibank was closing my accounts I would've use my rewards up before loosing them. That is the whole point of having these reward earning cards. Secondly, I earned those rewards fairly, and should be given them, even if the account is closed. They should apply whatever cash reward is there to the statement balance.
Citibank is discriminating against me for whatever reason and it is not okay, nor fair.
online banking / online payment service
On 10/26/2018, I made a payment via Citibank Online Banking / Online Payment Service to T-Mobile for my Nov. 2018 Cell Phone Service. The payment detail information is listed as follows:
Payment Amount: $33.89
Payment Date: 10/26/18
Payment Cleared Date: 10/30/18
Payment Reference Number: 13048
On 11/2/2018, T-Mobile cut off my cell phone service and claimed they had not received my payment. I had to go to T-Mobile store and made another payment in order to had my phone service back.
Meanwhile, I reported payment problem to Citibank. All they did is telling me Citibank sent a letter to T-Mobile and told them I made payment. At the same time, T-Mobile kept saying there was no payment received. I called T-Mobile many times and each time they kept put me on hold up to an hour till I gave up. I also talked to Citibank many times and each time they told me the same thing as "we have sent another letter to T-Mobile." Many months passing by and there is nothing changed. I went to Citibank Store located at 69-80 188 Street, Fresh Meadows, NY 11365. The representative was not much help either. He told me there is much he can do. All I had to do was keep calling Citibank Customer Service and addressing the issue. I told him that I had been trying for the past many months and each time it also took a long time to get to talk to real people over the phone at Citibank. I even made phone call at his location by Citibank phone. After 40 minutes, again, representative told me they would take care of it. All they did was sending another letter to T-Mobile which did not help as before. After six month, I sent Citibank another message and telling them it had been longer than six month since the payment date. Payee / T-Mobile stated they never received the payment and I had record Citibank took the money out of my account on 10/26/2018. I requested Citibank credit my account back for the same amount they took from from my account. Otherwise, I had to report to Comsumer's Affairs for this "Money Missing Issue." Then Citibank called me back and left message on my answering machine stating "they spoke to T-Mobile and they took care of the issue." By that time, I thought problem was resolved and T-Mobile should had $33.89 credit in my account. The following month, I went to T-Mobile Store and try to pay my cell phone monthly bill. I asked the representative to check my account and see if there was $33.89 credit to be utilized to cover my monthly bill. The representative told me there was only $27.79 credit on my account which was not enough to cover my monthly bill. I had to make another payment for $33.89 and kept this credit for $27.79. After that, I contacted Citibank and told them update my payment amount to T-Mobile for the amount Citibank took money out of my Citibank account on 10/26/2018. It has been almost two more months and nothing happens. My T-Mobile account still shows I had $27.79 credit and Citibank never get back to me either credit my Citibank account for the remaining balance of $6.10. I do not know what deal Citibank has. All I know is I address the same issue again and again. It has been almost ten months since the problem started and the problem is still there. Where did the missing money go? What can Citibank do? Is Citibank there to protect someone like me who has been Citibank customers for the past 20 or 30 years? Is it really hard for Citibank look into this problem and take care of it sooner rather than later? Do I really have to report this to Consumer Affairs for the small issue like this? You tell me what is the best thing to do at this time. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely yours,
James Chen
Citibank has not got back to me and T-Mobile still did not credit my account for the correct payment.
credit card settlement support
Requested to close account late last year. Nothing mentioned about outstanding bills. 3 months into closure, received notification about a 4-digits bill. Called for an explanation. Requested for statements for the later half of last year statements but wasn't given statements that reflected interests rates n other charges for this almost 2 quarters of this year. Called in to question about it. Finally got the statements and ended up whole matter dragged for a few months for a simple request. Was told that there was uncleared bill. Questioned why it wasn't made know and no where I could trace this. Bank acknowledged this shortcoming. Was advised a total amount and worked out together to clear this amount. On the day of payment at the branch, an addition amount appeared.
Citibank sucks! Feels cheated!

banking
Citi Bank NRI India is the most shameful and unprofessional organization in the world. I am struggling to withdraw my own money for past month or so, innumerable calls to their so called help desk who offer nothing but lies and false promises to resolve issues. . Government of India with all its new Prime minister and people should take a note of it, how can we invest in India when an financial institution is just completely impotent to do business, and treat investors badly? If you plan to open an account, just do not. I just do not know what to do at this time
declined citi costco card/false information
I applied for 3 different Citicards, Costco as my preferred. It was declined. When the letter arrived, I called Citibank to investigate. After talking to 5 people, being placed on hold for more than 35 minutes in total, I have gotten nowhere. The final person I spoke to said my credit report shows a bankruptcy from 1996 on a Citibank card that had multiple late pays. I explained I do not ever recall having a Citi Card. I pulled the credit report from your reporting agency and it shows NO CITICARD or BK from 1996. The man I spoke to from Citi customer service on the phone was perplexed as well. He gave me the number for your "RECOVERY" dept and told me to enter my social security# when prompted. Guess what? It does not recognize my SS# and hangs up. I tried multiple times and nothing. My concern is that I was an authorized user on an account when I was a care giver back then. The woman I used to take care of had to file BK and passed away before the BK was final. Could this be where this is coming from? Please help!
credit card
I paid off my Citi credit card two months ago. I had no bill yet I was still charged interest for two months. This is not right and I should not have to pay anything. There was no bill or balance. I never received any emails or letters saying I had a balance due after paying almost 6000 dollars.
Also, the customer service person I spoke to said my email was changed. I have never changed my email and have had this happened twice for this account. I never verified an email change and because of their faulty system allowing scammers to come into my account and change my email, I never received any statement or bill leading up to a fee of over 133 in late and interest charges. This is ridiculous and so is Citibank credit cards. The first time my email was fraudulently changed I spoke to a rep. who said this will never happen again. Well, it happened again. Citi cards is the worst credit card company. I'll never do business with Citibank again.
my secured credit card
My account was closed on June 12, 2019. My account was only 2 months behind! I called in last month in May to inform Citibank that I was without a job but great news! I now am employed and will begin work soon. I paid my bill off and then tried to use my card and then I found out that my credit card no longer is working! Surprise my account was closed after only 2 months of being behind and a call a month earlier to inform Citibank that I will be paying my bill soon. This is a credit card that I use for everything that a credit card is required for . This card is very important to my credit report as well. I am devastated that Citibank closed my account! I need you to review my case and reopen my account. The same account. My name is Jasmine Wynn and my credit card number is [protected].
Please remove this if my name and card info is displayed.
not receiving credit card
I applied for a secured credit card. They didn't have my apt number on file. I called to update it, iwas told to wait for a letter in the mail to tell me to call which I did but no reference number attached. I called 3x or 4x times and repeated same steps. I have waited 2 months to get my credit card and nothing has been resolved. U spoke with someone from fraud dept and would get a call back same day. Sti haven't heard back after two weeks now. They can send a letter to my updated address but yet cant send my credit card. I need my credit card or my $200 deposit back.
credit card
My account was closed on or about 6/12/19 due to a mistake with Citibank- I was told it was closed due to bankruptcy, but I have never declared bankruptcy.
Earlier this week, I was told it was an error, and I would received a new card in 7-10 days.
I called today to confirm, because online the account is still closed. I was told that my account has been permanently closed and I will get a letter in the mail explaining why.
I now have a closed account on my credit report, and my score has suffered because of this. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I have never been late with my payments.
I would like the account re-opened and corrected on my credit report.

To whom it may concern I am more then frustrated at this point I've spoke to everyone I could possibly speak to. All the way up to the director himself and it's not right that your business won't allow me to collect my money that I need and have right to. So I didn't want to make this a legal matter but I'm going to contact the better business bureau well my lawyer will be contacting them and then I have no choice but to file a lawsuit against your company since you aren't willing to compromise with me considering the fact I live in Arizona so if you could remove the hold from my account and allow me to with draw my funds in the full amount we could resolve this issue without involving lawsuits then that would be highly appreciated being that I've done all I can and still left with no answers please contact me with a resolution asap if not I have no choice but to take legal action against your company thanks for your time I'll be looking forward to hearing an answer from you if you need to reach me on a phone my number is [protected] thanks again Priscilla Padilla
costco card
In 2016 Costco decided to end their partnership with American Express and switch to Citibank. (ugh). At that time I was primary account holder for Costco membership, so Citi card was opened on my name, listing my husband and my dad as authorized users. That same year we decided to move Costco membership to my husband as it was more convenient for our family. The membership number had changed, so Citibank issued new cards with proper membership number on the back. For three years there were no issues with membership or credit card payments. Couple of days ago we were shopping at Costco and were notified at the register that our Citicard doesn't work, so we ended up using different Visa card. Upon reviewing account online I learned that our Citi account is being closed. After multiple calls to Citibank I've learned that they are trying to link this account to old/inactive membership. When I told them about switch, they refused to make my husband primary account holder and link it to his active membership and instead made him reapply and consequently denied him. I see multiple problems here. First of all, we weren't properly notified about account closure. Second, they had no issue with our membership for 3 years, yet all of a sudden it became a problem. Lastly, we were running in circles for 3 days trying to figure out what was the issue and their representatives were absolutely helpless.
Citibank has horrible customer service. I wish Costco never done the switch from Amex.

I received a piece of mail one day from Citi and I did not remember ever applying for a citi card. So what do you do when you have a card you have no memory of you cancel it. That's what I did. So when looking to book tickets they had a 250 credit on your first statement for applying for a credit card. So I applied. Bill arrives no credit. So I called "where's my credit". Told that because I closed an account I am not eligible for the credit. What? There was never any charge on the account, never activated, not activity at all. If anything why not open the original account to give me my discount. These companies lack integrity and do not do the right thing when dealing with customers. If I do not get my discount I will be closing this account as well. Because I would have used my points on another card to make the purchase so they will have cost me money.

credit card
I called Citibank to update my address and to pay my full balance in November 2018, which I was told was $75 and I paid it. I had not used the card since then and it expired few months later. This week, I was informed that I had an unpaid balance and several $29 late fees. After talking to customer services, it appears that there was a small transaction that came through after I paid the full balance. And it appears their employee miss-typed my zip code. Therefore I never received any statements since November 2018. Again, having not used the card again and since it expired, I was not questioning lack of statements. Apparently they also sent out a new card after expiration to whomever got it since it never came to me. But despite the zip code being their mistake and me having ZERO ways of knowing I had a small balance that was taking on several months of fees, they won't waive them. This should be illegal. The customer service person was a jerk that kept "Ma'am'ing" me in a very obnoxious way but refusing to remove fees that are not my fault. He also refused to agree to send me the bill via mail but kept saying I had to pay it right then and give them my routine number, etc. which I did not have at hand. The whole thing was terrible and frankly again should be illegal to charge me fees based on a mistake by Citibank employee. I tried to file a formal complaint with Citibank but the automated service kept sending me emails that I have to have an account and since my card is expired and my account is marked as not active, I don't have an account... It's very confusing but I still can't get any actual help to resolve this. I am HOPING I will get a statement in mail now that the address is fixed but who knows.
customer service
I have been a Citigold member since 2001 with several accounts at the branch listed above. I only bank in person once a month and every time I come into the branch I get harassed by Mr. Tom Lyford, Branch Manager. He frequently comes behind the teller pretending to move the trash can and peeking on the teller's screen monitor to check what transactions I'm doing without a greeting.in fact, he treated me like a criminal. Some of my friends were also the Citigold members at this branch and they confirmed that they have been treated the same ways by Mr. Tom Lyford. They have closed their Citigold accounts and banking some place else with a good customer service and respect. I'll close out my accounts and move to the bank where my friends referred me to if Mr. Tom Lyford's behavior continues on. This type of behavior from Mr. Tom Lyford is unacceptable. He needs to be transferred elsewhere or I soon will withdraw all my money to go some place else.
promotion
Opened checking and savings acct as required by promotion, with a 15, 000 dollar deposit. Asked bank employee more than once if I needed to split money or not, she assured me I did not. Fast forward 90 days no promotion money deposited in my acct. Went back to branch talked to same young lady, she then told me I needed to split some money between both...
Read full review of Citibankpoor customer service & fraud detection
Citi has been flagging my account for fraud on a weekly basis. I maintain several hundred thousands of dollars in my bank account and constantly accused of fraud.
I am canceling my account. This time you blocked payroll. My payroll software is requiring that I get a letter stating that my account is in good standing and your agents all refused. I am the ce) of a multi-million dollar company and I was kept on the phone for 40 minutes, only for nothing to be accomplished.
What a complete waste of my time. Citibank hasn't been able to anything for me but be a pain in my [censored].
I spoke to marlon, who passed me off to elizabeth krt024 who insisted they could not help. What kind of customer service has their hands tied? You have poor services and and I am cancelling my account within the next week. I am also sick of your spend limits for $10k, that's nothing! We have 20 team members and a ton of expenses. We've made $200k in 4 days. I have orders that cost me $70k and they won't go through on my account even though I have over a quarter million in the account. I am so sick of this. This is the final straw.
Citibank sucks and I will not recommend it to any of my entrepreneur friends.
