About March this year I started receiving SILVER oversize envelopes from Citi Cards AA offering the Platinum Elite credit card. I am already a Citibank credit card holder, so I called to ask if this was an upgrade for the existing card as the offers stated that if I expend 4500,00 in 90 days I would received 75000 miles with AA.
The operator was very clear that this was a new card and credit line and I was already eligible to receive miles again as I had closed the previous Platinum Credit Card account with Citibank in 2019.
Today when I called to ask when I will see my miles reflected on my account the operator was fast and short saying: you enrolled days before the 48 months period necessary for a new bonus account and for that reason you will not received your points. When I told him that I was not going after a new credit card and the only reason I agree with the new account was because they offered this bonus by mail and confirmed by phone. For my surprise the attendant asked me to show proof of the marketing envelope that was sent to my address in April/ May. I told him that I don't keep junk mail and the reason I was checking on the points was because I did called to finalize the offer application on the phone. He said that he can't do anything if I can send him back the invitation that I received with their phone number and offer code. As a consolation he would be able to offer me 5000 miles. I see this is a very big SCAM to open lines of credit for former clients that they know will use and pay their bills. I see how wrong this is to offer me to open a new line of credit days before the waiting period is over so they would not have to issue the bonus to the client.
Desired outcome: I want my miles as promised . My husband and I DID NOT need another line of credit with Citibank as we are already customers with their credit cards.
