I had an auto loan for a 2012 Jeep Patriot with Credit Acceptance since 2019. One afternoon late Sep ‘23 My husband called me at work a little confused telling me after returning home from running some errands our Jeep appeared stolen. Wanted to let me know before he made a police report. I found it odd that someone would try to steal a vehicle in broad daylight but thought I would at least notify Credit Acceptance and report the vehicle stolen and that we were going to make a police report. I found out from the CSR that the vehicle was repossessed. Confusing as I had not been called or notified in any manner of any missed payment. Our belongings were inside and we were told we could drive to a location an hour away to retrieve them but there would be a fee for storing them. I looked through our bank statements and only found we missed our July payment. They would not let me make a payment to settle the past due but said I had to pay the remainder of the loan in full to gain possession of it. It is almost Dec and we still have not heard anything further regarding the sale or auction. The only notice they provided after repossession was that we would not owe any additional balance after the sale or auction and that they would give us the credit if the sale exceeded the loan balance.
