I mailed some very important documents on a friday. These documents contained very sensitive material pertaining to income tax returns. I mailed these at a Fedex Kinko's who asked me as to when I would need them to be delivered. We asked that it arrive at its destination, Cebu, Philippines on Monday. There was no problem upon mailing them. It's only upon arrival in cebu, philippines wherein which these documents had a clearance delay. TWICE. It was clearly stated on the shipping slip that it contained only documents. Even at the time it was mailed, I put those documents into the envelope right in front of a fedex personnel. Now, when we called the destination office in Cebu, they informed us that the reason for the delay was because the package was declared as amounting to above 50 dollars. It's not like this is the first time that we have used fedex. Heck, we've sent some items in the past which we did declare to be more than 50, even more than a hundred dollars! Which is why, we knew that this reason was just simple b.s..The guy we spoke to had the gall to even tell us that it was still being held by customs and would take 1 or 2 days more before the package could be delivered. It's either that we wait or we could personally go over to their office to pick it up! Isn't it their job to deliver? And not just deliver, but deliver it on time? If that person had been able to provide us with some other clear explaination for the delay and why it was being held at their office, I wouldn't be as pissed off as I am right now. If ever those documents which I have by the way labelled for embassy officials only to open, have been tampered in any way, I am going to find a way to sue that office and never ever, EVER use fedex again.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
I agree, FEDEX CEBU SUcksss!
As provided for in the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines, "All articles coming from foreign country into the Philippines shall be subject to duty upon its importation, eventhough previously exported". This regulation does not mentioned documents are exempted from duty and tax but it expressly states "ALL".
Philippines customs is a crap shoot with the odds stacked against you. I have had one of my packages that I sent "lost" by customs...hmmm they lost $500 worth of jewelry? That was when I trusted UPS and had to accept the loss. PI customs are crooks and they did not "lose" my package, the stole it...All I can say is when you send stuff to the Philippines just hope for the best and be patient.
I've had the same problem with FedEx, I bought clothes online but they wouldn't release my package. I had to pay around Php1, 856.52 tax and duties before I got it. I posted the break down in this site, in case you are curious on how they arrive at that whooping amount.

I'm really disappointed with FedEx, I mean they really are reliable when it comes to delivery but they're too corrupt. They take advantage of the people who trusts their services and that just aint right.
Duties and taxes were assessed by Philippine Customs. Those were Government charges. So its not FedEx, blame Customs!
they charged me for the "used" cellphones that my cousin sent me...now I'm paying it upon delivery tomorrow..I don't even know if it's defective or not..the phone doesn't even come with a charger...it's not really fair with this kind of crap...
Fedex -terrible service!
Very slow customs clearance! My package took two weeks to clear! Worst part is FEDEX is taking advantage of this by charging you with a high storage fee! POOR SERVICE!
Very True! Until today my package is not released from FedEX! its now the 2nd week... i dont really know what to do ... dealing with them is very very frustrating... VERY POOR SERVICE! LOCAL POST IS FASTER THAN FEDEX...
Yes, i agree of all the comments by fed ex this company should change there name it should be fade ex instead of fed ex lol. I'm still waiting for my documents and it did not arrive yet so dissapointing filipino workers in cebu lapu-lapu fed ex. crap and lazy.
I will never ever use this Company again much better to use LBC because when they state the date it will really arrive and it is very convenience.
This sucks since FedEx Cebu will charge you on warehouse and they will have it minimum 3 days and may extend for a number of days. They will charge on a per day bases. Imagine, Weekends are also charged. The total cost of the item I bought is much lesser that FedEx charged me. See, the item is already in CUSTOMS and they will still wait for 3 days for clearing. Anyways its to FedEx advantage since they are controlling the warehouse so they can charge their customers as high as they can. I learned this the hard way.
Well you can now add DHL to that list of no-gos. Same problem everyone has been complaining about FEDEX for years. I use FEDEX for outgoing documents and they're terrible things move at a snails pace until they get in the U.S. owned real FEDEX. Local Filipino owned FEDEX refuses to even accept things with my real return address since they claim they don't understand it (military Retirement Area Office mailbox).
I'm a regular LBC customer and I swear by them never had one problem with anything. But now DHL is "investigating" why my little $50 box of non perishable food is being held up by Customs for God knows what reason. Very disheartening and discouraging to retire here, it's not worth it.
