Mortgage
I will keep my review brief. Virtually all of the poor reviews on this site cover experiences I have had. Up front I will tell anyone who has had a bad experience to file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the consumer protection office of your state Attorney General, your congressman / Senator's office if they support consumers. This Bank has no respect for it's customers. They care about those other reporting avenues and trends show a pattern of damaging conduct to consumers whether they are legal or just plain unethical.
I have had a mortgage with them for 12 years. They have always been poor with communicating anything urgent (payment change, payment receipt issue). Last month they did not apply my normal over payment to my mortgage. I had no notifications in my electronic account, email and they left no messages when they called from spam numbers (they said its against their policy to leave a voicemail message for a customer- seems like they have no real interest in getting a response)
I found out the payment was being held by accident when I logged in (after calling to reset my account after being locked out as usual because their IT systems are terrible) I made an immediate payment which they made the excuse of waiting to apply until Monday assuring they could count me late. Their justification being they couldn't take a payment on a non business day- funny they can set a due date on a non business day. Isn't that a racket- set a date you can't pay on and then count you as late.
Their calls come from literal spam callers and if you pick up there is dead silence for 15-30 seconds making you think robo call and you just hang up. There is no way to know they are trying to reach you.
They put no notifications in the online account.
I have yet to see them send out a timely mail notification. There is no post mark on the mailing to maximize their ability to feign they have followed the bare minimum of the law to send out a notice. But their actions are clear, do everything possible to reduce the probability that the consumer can respond- and why? My opinion, damage credit reports to ensure consumers are forced into high fee predatory financial products. It dropped my credit report 80 points. This bank is literally the only late reporting i have on my report. They have done this twice in 4 years.
My recommendation it to avoid all business with this Bank. If you need more review input just google the bank and lawsuits and look through reviews on multiple sites. the abusive treatment of customers is a large clear trend.
Desired outcome: Remove the late report on my credit report

Good Evening! I received a letter in the mail that you have a resolution for my transaction dispute. I still don't agree with this out come, I was never ask for any paper work on this matter. This payment was originated through Pay Pal. I call them when I saw it on me statement letting them know that I didn't order this. They were the one who had cancelled that order. And I don't know were Avast got my information from. But I'm sure that there is a lot of falsifying going on these day. This is VERY Upsetting that you would take their word over your own customer. Never once was I ask to present any paper work.

Desired outcome: Put My $79.00 back in my account.
5/3 loan
I opened a 5/3 personal loan at a branch. I used their app regularly to make payments and did so for the entire term of the loan without being late or missing a single payment - until one month I had a lot going on with my health and I missed a payment. Instead of stressing about it, I ended up paying off the loan completely by using the balance that showed on the app. I thought all was good. The app showed a balance of zero. About two months later, I received a letter in the mail advising my account was overdue and had a $90 balance. What? I tried calling 5/3, only to be placed on hold for over 40 minutes. When I tried pleading my case with the operator, I was disconnected. And guess what - despite them having a call back number for me, no one called me back. I complained to my local branch. The manager seemed helpful at first, advising she would look into this for me. She advised that because I had a missed payment, they were changing me for that payment and now a late fee. Unreal. She said she would call me back in a few days, because she saw that I paid promptly the entire term and this was not something I should be dealing with. Guess what? She never called me back either! So I got on the phone again with 5/3, who by now was adding late fees onto a paid off account that showed a zero balance on the app this whole time! After over an hour on hold, I started pleading my case to another operator. Again, I was hung up on and no one bothered to call me back despitr knowing my call back number and verifying it with me! I don’t know what kind of scam operation 5/3 is running, or what they teach their operators to do to keep the scam going, but 5/3 is useless. I would tell people to never bank with this criminal enterprise, and to not trust their incompetent personnel. Hopefully someone files a class action suit against them for theft one day.
Desired outcome: Close out my account, forgive my balance, and correct my credit reports!
File a complaint with the consumer financial protection bureau and the customer protection section of your state attorney generals office, if you have consumer friendly congress / senate reps so that also. May not get satisfaction but enough complaints and a trend emerges.
Credit card
My mother/I shared a credit card account for many years. My mother passes on 03/14. I call 5/3 to notify them. agent was very rude, account had been terminated. I then check my credit scores, and my activity over the past several years with the 5/3 card has completely disappeared, leaving me with a 0 credit score.
Desired outcome: 5/3 Please reinstate my credit history with this credit card to the three reporting agencies. Cc# [protected]
Fraud department will not help with my fraud case.
this complaint is solely based on the fact that they know I havebe a victim of a scam artist who I have sent documentation fromthis person stating that I have not received the product and theycould care less and WILL not be bothered with me. I understandI should have read the fine print. however they will not evenbother to help me with confirming information or go after thisperson as a company. I m upset because they are not questionweather or not I was a victim just that I did not follow the rules soyour fault. I feel like they should refund my money and presscharges against the person is intentionally scammed me. this isnot happening because I did not follow the rules

Service and product
I purchased A vehicle from a Reputable dealership. Instead of going through my own finance company, the dealership found me a lower interest rate with 53 Or 5Th and 3RD. I wanted to payoff my vehicle early and in the process of doing so. the payment had only went down several hundred dollars after pay for 7 months. I tried to call 53.com to ask why was this happening and I was on hold for more than 1 hour and 36 minutes before hanging up. I then logged back in to my account and began a chat with an individual and explain to them what my concerns were. The individual proceeded to tell me that they charge $1.59 cent per day in interest on top of your interest payment they already charge when you get a loan through them and this information is not disclosed to you in any paperwork upon signing. So from the time you make your first payment to the next, you are being charged $47.70 depending on when your payment is do. I never did get a response from the agent about where it could be found on my paperwork that I signed at the dealership she directed me where to find it, but mind you you have to already be a mebers or have a loan through them to do so.
Desired outcome: This Information needs to be disclosed from the dealership and or the loan agency before signing
Fifth Third Bank certainly a nightmare! Zero customer service and lack of knowledge and understanding of what transpires when Fifth Third Bank takes it upon themselves to change the payee and method of payment in their Bill Pay. DON'T DO business with this bank. It's mind boggling to read all of these complaints and realize this is serious and I am included in this nightmare. I will reach out to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Attorney General, social media, news stations that do investigative reporting and if you can think of anyone else... please make a note of it. This bank needs to SINK! I remember when the Resolution Trust Corporation in the 80's seize Banks... They need to make another sweep!
Online banking
EVERY TIME I log into my account ([protected]), I have to change User or Password. I am currently locked out of my account.
I have even gone to bank to get logged in. Sometimes they can, usually not.
Have to get more tech person to try.
FED UP! CLOSING ALL MY ACCOUNTS!
On April 15, I will begin transferring my accounts to another bank.
Another thing..."can't process because complaint too short"... PLEASE
Lame excuse... be more flexible. You don't really care.
Desired outcome: No OUTCOME!!~!
Mortgage refinance
We just refinanced our mortgage through Fifth Third Bank for the second time in 8 years. For the most part it went smoothly and we appreciated Alejandra Rebollo's assistance. However, after signing all the paperwork, we had to return to the bank the next day to sign a page not completed the day before.
We live in Lockport, where the branch we used was closed down and just happened to be in the New Lenox branch some weeks ago, and was approached by Ms. Rebollo to refinance there. We did so.
The issue is, that branch is about 12 miles away. We had to cancel an errand to make that second trip to the bank, drive 25 miles to complete the task, and when asked what Fifth Third Bank could do for our inconvenience, we were offerd a sucker.
I had been in retail for 48 years and prided myself in providing superior customer service with every one of my customers. This was a very poor experience on Fifth Third's part. I was also told no one was available to speak to then or in the near future, but was assured an area branch manager would be made aware of the situation. For a week now, no contact whatsoever has been made by anyone from Fifth Third.
I'm sorry that Fifth Third has shown no respect or care to us in this matter.
Desired outcome: I would expect to have some representative of Fifth Third to contact me to discuss this further.
internet service won't log in
you have many many complaints about chromebook not being able to log in. I now have the same problem. As a 5/3rd customer for over 20 years, I have never been inconvenienced like this before. Chromebook only comes with one browser and it is Americas favorite and most used.
After calling your company, it seemed that your representative didn't care and just told me it was a chrome problem and not 5/3rds.
Please have your techs fix this for the convienence of all of your customers.
Using a phone to do banking is not for the weak eyed elderly.
Thank you,
Robert Edwards
Desired outcome: fix the log in problem with chromebook
Lien release on vehicle
We purchased a vehicle in Nov 2019 financed through Fifth Third. We paid off the vehicle almost immediately (Dec 2019) and haven't been able to get the lien cleared from Fifth Third to the State of Wisconsin. It is ridiculous. Last week I called the bank and they said they'd fax over the lien release - which I received three days later. I went to DMV - Wisconsin and they said they can't accept a fax from me it would need to be directly from the bank - they also said the bank should just clear it electronically. They also said Fifth Third has two different liens listed with two different bank addresses. It is crazy. Highly do not recommend using Fifth Third for banking needs. I am extremely frustrated, as this car needs to be registered and titled to our daughter in another state.
Desired outcome: I need this lien cleared immediately with the State of Wisconsin DMV.

5/3 mortgage won't report my payments to credit bureau. I need to find out why asap.
they have incorrect info on my acct causing inconsistencies. I have absolute proof of payment for many years (form 1098).
there was a bankruptcy over 10 years ago that should not be in play here. I have proof of discharge and copy of court docket showing that.
Please contact me asap anytime, @ [protected] or [protected]@hotmail.com
Desired outcome: report to credit bureaus.
Mortgage and customer service in general is the worst
First, if you try calling their [protected] customer service # it just hangs up on you. No calls go through and this is on their own website.
Next, the mortgage help # is always a long wait. No matter what time of the day you call it's going to be a long wait. Then the agents I spoke with were on the more clueless side, so it's a waste of time no matter what.
Then if you get someone at a branch for mortgage help they do not finish with the help and eventually flake on their own customers; for example, no return calls or emails. Regarding something simple as refi info or info on a recast. They make it so frustrating. The worst is Ira Schwartz NMLS 1394671. This guy tells he would help and to give him a call back, so I call, leave a msg. No call backs for the next 3 days. Then I send a short email. No replies. That was over 13 days ago. This is typical when dealing with their mortgage people. The next worst is Wilson Goncalves at the Skokie branch on Skokie Blvd. Same thing, says he'll do something and will get back but doesn't. It wasn't just these two, there were others at fifth third who leave their customers hanging.
Desired outcome: Will switch banks.
Not returning my money after Investigation
On October 6 2021 I deposited a check for $6250 made out to me. The branch manger took it upon herself to file a fraud claim against my account, thus freezing all of my assets, totaling $58.47. An investigation was conducted, the check for $6250 cleared, and no fraud was found during the investigation, ending on November 21 2021.
Since that time I have tried to have all monies returned to me in part or in full to no avail. This is theft by 5/3 bank. I have a legal right, technically and legally to all funds that were in my account at the time it was closed, $6308.47. This case was resolved but not my to my satisfaction. Returning my money in full, would resolve any future issues I have with 5/3 bank.

Service by the manager Brian Douglas Smith
I went in to try and get a fraud case resolved and was attacked by a guy claiming to be the manager. He was very racist and standoffish in his attitude. He had no issue speaking to the white people in line but ignored the minorities. The manager refused to help and lied to me about filing a complaint. The manager tried several times to get me to give him...

Unhelpful, rude, nasty and unprofessional employee
I called a 5/3 bank branch in Cincinnati yesterday 12/14/21. I am having issues with a mortgage loan in which I just refinanced in October from Freedom Mortgage. I recently contacted the Floyd County, Indiana Recorder's office to make sure that the new mortgage with 5/3 has been recorded, so that I could file for my mortgage exemption. It was not recorded and they informed me that 5/3 has a problem with getting counties straight on their mortgages and that since it was refinanced on 10/29/21 it should have been recorded long before that day. Most banks get it done within 2-3 weeks. I contacted the person that closed on the loan and she suggested that I check the paperwork and make sure the correct county was on it and it was the WRONG county. 5/3 used Clark County instead of Floyd County. A CMT was opened and after a couple of days, I was told that they (5/3) is fixing the problem, but it will take up to 90 days. I informed the person that I spoke to that 90 is to late because I have to file for my mortgage exemption at the Auditor's office by the end of the year or I will lose it and it will cost me hundreds of dollars. She said she would try to make it less that 90 days. I did let her know that if it ends up being after the end of the year that someone should be responsible for the money I will lose because of not filing for the exemption. I waited 2 weeks and checked again with the Floyd County Recorder's office and it still had not be recorded. I called my 5/3 contact in New Albany, IN and she said it is handled in Cincinnati and gave me the customer service number to call. I called that number and eventually got through to a girl who told me that there was nothing they could do and that they could NOT expedite the filing. I asked for her supervisor and she put me through to Patrick (employee no. PM1MOC3A. He was even less helpful and very rude and unprofessional. He said that it could not be expedited and the only thing that I could do is write a letter to the president of the bank. I told him that I didn't have time to write a letter because the deadline is the end of the year for filing for the exemption. He said that he could not do anything, then proceeded to refuse to put me through to someone else. I asked him to repeat what he said just to make sure that he was really refusing and he said "yes I am refusing to put you through to anyone else." He was nasty and rude and hateful and obviously doesn't care about his job at 5/3 or it's customers. I have since been told by the person in Indiana 5/3 branch to call the title company and see if they can speed things up and to keep checking with the Recorder's office. I asked her who will be responsible if this doesn't get done and I lose so much money and I did not get an answer. I feel this is 5/3's mistake, and they have done nothing to rectify the mistake they made.
Desired outcome: Get the mortgage recorded with the correct county in Indiana and reprimand the rude employee and teach him proper customer service.
A breach of security.
I am writing this complaint to reach the CEO of this company. I was called by an representative of E. Mortgage by a Mr. Rowe who asked if we wanted to Refi our mortgage ( i believed he use the term refi, could have been another term). He had my husband's social security #. I asked how did he get our personal information he stated my bank gave it to them. So i immediately called fifth 3rd bank, spoke with a supervisor named Aly . he took my report and then asked me if i wanted to opt out of sharing information. In which i forund this to be strange, because since day 1 we should have been opt out already. She then stated she would passed my information on to their investigative team. I recieved a call from Aaron who didnt seem to be concerned about this situation, she had a haughty personality( and i would not like to speak with her at all). She just stated to me they don't share information, in which i don't believe at all because if not how did this gentleman get my husband's very personal information unless there was a a breach of security or compromised situation to happen at fifth 3rd bank. Fifth 3rd bank needs to be held accountable for our leak of personal information. And something needs to be done about it. The 1st thing is reporting this to the Federal & State govering agencies. As well as BBB and other agencies to get the word out of how this bank gives out their customers private & confidental information If fifth 3rd does not resolve this.
Desired outcome: A reasonable resolution
Unreasonable fee charged
To whom it may concern:
I have been a 5th 3rd customer for over 30 years, I currently have a mortgage with your company for $465, 047.37. Account Number [protected]. I also have other accounts. In August of 2021, I made an extra payment using the automated web site. I intended this extra payment to cover the September payment (that would be due in September) and there was nothing that told me it wouldn't cover this payment. In September the auto payment system tried to take the September payment again and my account was overdrawn. I called after receiving a notice and was told twice that the fees would be removed from my account. Some fees were removed, however, recently I received my Mortgage Loan Statement and there is another $30 fee that has been added to my November payment for NSF. With all due respect, I don't believe this is how a 30 year customer should be treated, and if this fee is not waived, as I believe it should be as the payment was made early not late and the program did not make it clear that the payment made in August would not cover the next payment due in September, I will be moving my mortgage to another bank and closing all accounts and I will never bank with 5th 3rd again. Please understand, this is not meant to be disrespectful in any way, but clearly waiving this fee for a 30 year customer, under these circumstances, is absolutely expected by a bank that cares about their core customers. Does 5th 3rd care about me and retaining my business?
Kindest Regards,
Mark A Weber, P.E., EMBA

Unbelievable.
Also antiquated account opening policies but the P of A is absurd. Clearly a very unprofessional process.
