I bought a new house in March of 2010 and upon registering service with FPL was told I would be required to pay a $200 dollar deposit. I've never been required to pay a deposit for any service and have a healthy credit score. I was told this deposit would be added to my first months bill. Came home a few weeks after moving in to find my power disconnected for failure yo pay the deposit. After calling FPl and insisting this was due with my first months bill, was forced to pay that say and wait the unreasonable 24 hours for service to be restored( they made that deadline with 15 minutes to spare). I was also charged a fee which I emphatically refused to pay. After speaking for more than an hour with phone rep this charge was agreed to be waived.
Next months bill comes and guess what, charge is there. It took six months of additional wrangling to get it removed.
Fast forward two and a half years later and here I sit writing this complaint via smartphone because my service has again been disconnected. The problem this time ? I am 20 days late and past due in the amount of $98.12.
Sounds like your fault you might say. I would agree except that...I notified FPl I would be out of the country and would need an extension and I set up autopsy for this bill to try to cover this one. Also, member that security deposit, isn't that supposed to cover little incidents like this?

FPL i the biggest group of monopolizing scam artists. I have 2 small children. They didnt send me a bill in four months so I called them to ask about it. They said that we enrolled for online bill pay. We checked our email and there was no mail from them and we called a few other times and they readjusted our diposit and they shut our power off and later that day, I finally got a paper bill! uugh it is frustrating and it is monopolizing.

FPL said I would not be charge the deposit if I signed up for the auto bill pay online. The lady on the phone said the 23rd is the last day I could sign up for it. So the night of the 23rd, Thursday, I signed up for it. A couple days later, I came home and my power was shut off and the sad thing was I just went grocery shopping :( . I called FPL and spoke with a Supervisor twice and she said I could not have my power turned on until the next day. I told her my story and she said that I should have sign up before 9pm but because I signed up at 10pm she couldn't do anything. I told her that the lady never said anything on a time just that the 23rd was the last day I could sign up. I asked for a manager to call me, which didn't happen. My power did get turned on the next day but I feel they should have come and turned it on right away. They are so quick to shut it off if you don't pay, well this was their doing so I feel they should have shown good customer service and turned it back on and before my food went bad! By the way my actual FPL bill was paid on the 21st . So it wasn't my bill it was the deposit issue.

lose power in every storm
Every time we get a little rain the power goes out...The lines are not maintained at all in Florida..Trees are not cut away from power lines..FPL just waits until a tree branch falls and kills the line before they do anything...They have so much money and do nothing about this problem...They also don't want to put the lines underground because it would cost to much...So they have old poles and old lines and trees over the lines and do nothing to fix this...So all you get is mega power bumps and black outs...And when you call them they say get battery back ups...O thanks that's why we pay you to recieve power so that we can go out and spend 300 dollars on battery back ups...FPL sucks
over billing/shut off
Well as all of you I am stuck with FPL. They over charge us tremendously. That being said, due to high bill these past few months, I made payments in installments. They claim that they sent us a Final Bill saying pay by this date or power is shut off. Well they did early this morning, they must have been waiting for me to leave the house because when my husband came home everything in the refregigerators was warm. I have paid my bill and accoding to them it takes five minutes to shut us down, however it takes them up to 24 hours to connect us. I also asked them to evaluate why my bill is so high when everyone elses is less than 150, well, according to them its time I get a new AC, its to old. I have plainly told them that since they are taking their time, when my food spoils they will have give me a credit for it as well as if we need to seek a hotel room, they will have to cover same. It just may be cheaper for them to actually put someone to work with all the money they are charging us.
I was out of country for the entire month of May. Before leaving turned every breakers to off to ensure there is no power in my place. Yet, when I received my bill its as though nothing was changed. No, I'm not on their budget billing and when I complain they give me their usual BS.
Beware of smart meter research them on you tube and see all the health problems caused by the radiation they emit they aren't telling us the truth! my bill has steadily increased from my usual bill. My first bill was half a month it was 37$ my next bill was 74$ and then 113$ 126$ and then smart meter installed and my bills started doing this 185$, 197$, 212$, 257$, and my most recent bill this month is 295$ my next projected bill is 247$ check out these links below. My Dad had a heart attack yesterday and he sleeps in his room at night and the meter is right outside his window next to his bed. Thanks fpl for creating this new health problem. i am resident of manatee county with three small children and fpl is constantly sending me a bill over 600.00 dollars and i called to complain but no one has sent anyone out to inspect or even see whats wrong they disconnected my services for 131.00 when i went to pay they said i needed 322.64 in order to reconnect services i was not able to pay until four days later and then they stated they added 2 months on as a deposit, which now brings the total to 776.56 i just lost my job i cant afford this this bill this is so unfair and unjustified i asked for an adjustment to be sent to me two weeks ago and i haven't yet received it. FPL is a cruel and injustice company who just charge you what they want when you are poor and cant fight back because they feel they can i am speaking with an attorney and to see what rights i have

It is unreal to me how one Company FPL can get away with so many FRAUDULANT ACTS. I recently received a bill for $335.99, note that my previous bills are usually around $115.00 and no more than $200 a month. I called them to ask them why is my bill so high this month. They told me that it is because they could not read my meter for the months of April and May and they just took a estimated guess. They went on and stated that they could not get into back yard due to DOG/FENCE being locked. First off I just bought this house a year ago and the people who had it before had dogs. I have called them to explain that they can come to back yard and that there are no DOGS and the fence you just pull on the latch. So if they were able to read the meter all other months why now for the past two months you cant seem to read now. Instead of calling me and or leaving a note at the door they took GUESS.. So with out any kind of notice I get a BILL for more than I can afford at $335.99 on a single budget income. But might I add that if I pay the 148.99 budget billing that I would not have to pay $335.99, seems that they are forcing me to get on the budget billing plan so they can charge me the same every month when in fact my bill is never that high in the Winter months. SO because they dropped the ball I am SCREWED, and they know we need electricity and that this is the only Company in Florida to provide us with this necessity. WE NEED TO STAND UP TO THEM THIEVES.

so true f.pl. has been sticking to us evry month my reg bill was 223 and i was told that if i dnt pay my bill on time im charged a 115 dollar deposit every time my bill is late well fpl can keep chargeing me extra money every month because after i move fpl will have to pay me all my money back in deposit and i will have my lights shut off so they cant say will we took this for the the light still being on im getting my money back and i have paid my bill down to 0000 and if i get a bill for over 189.99 i will be taking on fpl in court i will file a cival suite against yall and get the best attnory there is.. and sue yall ###'es...

So we signed up for automatic bill pay to lower the deposit amount of a new connection. My husband pays the bill through his bank but the bill pay is deducted from my bank. He payed the bill 3 days before it was due but it didn't post apparently until the day it was set to automatically deduct from my account. So long story short they got payed twice in one day, his payment and then withdrawn from mine which caused my bank to overdraw. They said they would refund the payment but had to wait 14 days to make sure the payment cleared with the bank first and then would issue a check to me.
I called both I can dispute the charges with the bank but then that will cause the payment to be reversed and then I will be charged an additional deposit. Fpl says there's nothing they can do I have to wait.

This has got to be illegal. They state my account was $7.74 past due and since the outstanding balance was not paid when due they turn off my service! Without a knock at the door, nothing! Who is regulating this company!? We have no choice and are forced to put up with this unethical treatment. To top it off I paid what was requested the whole $7.74 as soon as I found out and then they have the face to tell me they have a whole 24 hours to turn it back on. WOW.. I would love to see the person who is telling me this sleep with 4 kids in a home with no lights no AC with candles burning up in this miami florida weather. I don't mean to sound spoiled but this is not right! I am beyond upset and will not stop until this "policy" gets changed.

it seems that every month they send a collection agent to collect as little as 80 dollars it seems to that they are hurrassing me and my family just to get extra money from me, i am disabled i cannot afford h electric bills pleases help me to stop them this has been going on for a year and a few years ago they charged me for an ex wife's fathers old bill when he died at some point before he died we had already divorced.not only that i could not get electricity till i paid them over 400 dollars i just want them to stop and give me a break some times i need to skip a bill so as not to go hungry cause i only get so much from disability

Today they cut electricity without notice, my wife in the house with a 6 days old baby and didn't even had the dicency of knocking on the door, 15 minutes later I paid their bill and they said that it will take up to 24 hours for the service to be restored. I call them and tried to reason with them and no way they were going to make an exception and restore my service. It's been 5 hours now and I'm afraid my babys formula will get bad, no service yet, it's already 9 pm.

I was late a month and they charged me an extra deposit. On a Friday I had made a payment of 102 which was only partially the bi. Times are hard as I am a stay at home mom and my fiancé is the only one working. On Tuesday afternoon around 3 they shut our power off stating I had to pay 223 to get it reconnected. I called someone to help me with the payment and it was paid by 340 pm. I then called and they said they had called dispatch to reconnect power. Well it's now 830 the next morning and still no power and when I call all they can say is it is within 24 hours. Really fpl? If you can come disconnect power so quickly than why is it taking this long to reconnect. I have to small children and this is ridiculous.

FPL shut off my power saying I was tampering with there meter. I Call the electrician that I hire to work on my house. He said he did nothing illegal, and he called FPL for them to tell him what he did illegal on my house. They refuse to talk to him. And now they want me to pay $2807 for something I didn't do. Or else they will not turn my power back on. At first I thought it was about the tampering but when I offer to pay to try to resolve matter they claim I just cant pay and get my lights back on. Now, they want me now to sign a letter saying my husband threaten their worker or they will not put my lights back on which he did not. But are they allowed to do this. Am in DARKNESS now with my 5 kids for a week today. And I cant get no one to help me because sames like everyone I talk too is afraid of FPL. Same to me they are more powerful than the mafia. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE WHEN IT COMES TO FPL.
I would of first thought of scam but FPL just came out to my house and claimed because my house is old my l blocks are broken and they took the meter and said I had to get an electrician to fix it before they come put it back on. The problem is my house is barely over 10 yrs since being built from scratch. The only time metr was messed with was when they switched me over to an electric meter a couple of years ago. Go figure.
You got turned off because you got caught doing something illegal, not because you yelled at a worker. Look into it: tampering is illegal, cable company does too. I'd be ashamed to come out and say you just said on a public forum. Makes you look like a thief. You're the scam, its because of scams that our prices go up, ie: insurance scams.

FPL has been commiting fraud for years now, not only are they over charging on deposits that are incorrect, they are overcharging on usage. They are committing fraud with auto bill pay! They have taken money out of an account that has been closed and removed! I have paid my account in cash and 2 weeks later they took the same amount out from my account again that i used to make a payment over the phone. They save your bank informtation with out your permission. They have taken money out of my account again with out my permission where there was already a payment in process.They say they will investigate it and never return your calls. Their management and supervisors are so rude and nasty and hang up. I had a power outage with a 5 day old baby 2 days in a row for a total of 7 hours they said its not their problem theres other people with out power! They disconnected me for $900 bill from 5 years ago that was not mine from a property that was sold. I had to pay it to get my service back on! A bill 5 years later that i fought was not mine! from a vacant property! I didnt even live in the state anymore at the time of the bill..Now in the last 6 weeks they have STOLEN $ $528.00 From my account not including overdrafts charges and my bill jumped $88.00 a month but yet nothing changed in my household making that $1056.00 in overcharges. If your a day late which your not they process it late they want additional deposits! Like we have the money, if your late obvisiously your in financial hardship-so where are you suppose to pay more deposits and its not like its $5 they want hundreds to do what with? even if your not months behind cause they wont bill it that way..Real quick to steal it over charge it..BUT NOT GIVE IT BACK! I have an 1176 square foot Villa, have done everything to make it more energy efficient. I feel like we live like bats, however the bill is still $384...Had meter changed to a digital meter so they have to come out personally and read it and not a remote reading, they said they would call prior to their coming over, they left a message on my cell phone on October 27th that they would come out. I waited until the 19th to call and see when he would come out and read the meter, they said it was read on the 27th at 9 am but NO One came out to read the meter. I have filed my second Complaint with the Public Service Commission, FPL used to be a great company, it has definitely gone to ***!

FPL is full of ****. I transfered service to my new address through their website. No where did they inform me that my payment arrangement for a previous account in my dad's name was going to be automatically deducted from my bank account in full amount ($2000.00). So NOW Im $2000.00 in the hole, with other bills to pay! HOW IN THE HELL CAN THEY DO THIS! This complaint is about customer service and the lack on knowledge that the people that I have encountered has regarding issues that you would think a regular representative would know. I started out of the monthly credit card billing thing with fpl. It was always a mystery because you never had an exact date that money would be drawn from your account.in this day and time, who can be comfortable with something like that? I need to know if you what date you are debiting my account and the dates should not change monthly. Every automatic bill that I have set up, I can tell what date its coming out. The problem occurred when I changed my bank account, because of all the manual process and whatever it takes to get that changed, my payment went to the wrong bank anyway and I was kicked off the monthly billing and charged an enormous deposit. Fast forward a couple of months and I was recently deemed disabled so I had to set up payment arrangements on my bill. Per fpl, i've had several arrangements and several defaults including two defaults in one day. I am not sure how that happens. Who would establish two arrangements on one bill in one day? Of course, was just told that today. Back in july, I received assistance from an agency that paid the bill in full. The agency called and asked for the current bill amount and to my surprise they were only given the amount that was due and not the complete bill amount. My agency paid the majority and the had me pay an amount which should have paid the bill to 0.00 and it didn't. When that amount was paid, it paid out the extension that was made. I called today to check my bill amount because I don't always get a bill and I found out that my I was in danger of disconnect when I thought that the payment in august paid the bill out.in my experience with fpl, I have never gotten the correct answer when I have called and it only resulted in me making several calls. Its ridiculous that fpl can't give you a date when your funds are going to be deducted, they can't even tell me when your service is scheduled for disconnection. Its like playing a cat and mouse game and maybe its to rack up late charges or its a game that gives fpl some benefit, because I can't think of a company that knows less about their own operation like fpl. Of course I spoke to a supervisor named ms. Rodarte and she also didn't have the information or could give me a name of the manager of her department. This is what I experience when I call there.
A few hours after I made this original complaint with psc, I called fpl to ask for a number to the bill pay to pay my bill using credit a credit card. I spoke with jonathan and was given the number [protected] and when I dialed the number, it was the number back to the customer service department. So I called back and spoke with jonathan and advised him that he gave me the wrong number. He told me that it was the correct number and I advised him that it was not. He put me on old and I searched for the number on the fpl website. Jonathan came back to the phone and told me that he verified that the number that he gave me was correct. I advised him that the correct number was [protected]. A few hours after that incident, I received a call from danny fernandez regarding my initial complaint with psc. Of course danny did his job to give excuses about all my issues. It was perfect timing because I was able to tell him that I can't even get the correct number to pay the bill when I call. As a courtesy, danny offered to apply half of my deposit that's on my account against my current bill but disclaimed that if I didn't pay my bill by the bill date that credit could result in a charge back. My complaint won't be improved by applying my money to the bill and threaten to charge it back when I fail to pay on time. So now I am really mad. So please have somebody call me with the fax number to armando olivera so I can forward this complaint to the president of this zoo. Thank you.

fpl greed and lack of loyalty
Beware! Fpl has found new ways to charge us even more during these difficult times. I noticed a $320 charge on my bill marked as "additional activity" in addition to the already high $213.67 charge for the month for usage. I called fpl this morning and discovered that the "additional activity" is a charge assessed for being late twice in six months. I have been a loyal customer to fpl for over 25 years and I have never had any issues or ever complained about their price hikes. I requested that the rep waive the charge and she said she was not authorized but connected me to a supervisor. The supervisor agreed to waive it if I authorized fpl to withdraw the funds from my account directly or get a letter from someone who has not been late on an fpl bill before. I refused both and pushed forward to an account rep supervisor who eventually agreed to waive the fee. The entire process took over an hour. Fpl has found another way for greedy ceo's to line their pockets and have created new ways to charge us more. Beware and read all the details on your bills otherwise your will just contribute to the abuse and greed of big business. I'm tired of companies like fpl that make a b-load of money and don't put back to make the system more efficient without asking us to pay for it. Sad part is we keep paying for upgrades they don't do... Fed up!

Your bill clearly states that if you are late your account will incur late payment charges and that there is the potential for a deposit adjustment. If you don't want to have to pay a deposit then just pay your bills on time. They are company policies and realizing that it is a tough economy they do try to work with you by securing your account in other ways. I know its hard to hear but at the end of the day FPL is a business and they do have policies set in place that they must follow in order to also survive in this economy...you pay for the services you receive, when you do groceries or go to a restaurant or when you pay for mortgage or rent you pay for the most part you are paying for something that you are receiving at that moment...by the time fpl bills you its for something you've already consumed during the previous month and on top of that they give you 3 weeks to pay it so by the time they get paid almost 2 months have gone by. So their deposit policy is somewhat similar to a residential deposit.

The company its charging me a250$ of a debt left by tbe old tenant in the property, the company says that we know tbe old tenant and yes we do had a friend relation with the family. but i dont find it fare that they have to charge me hes old bill, i dont find it legal if anybody can help please contact me at [protected]@ hotmail.com
