I have had the emerald card for about 4 years now. come tax season this year I will be throwing away the card. you would think after 3 years of using the card on a daily basis, paychecks, shopping, gas, etc that they would work with you on any atm fees. or at least build a relationship with other atm providers. but the fact that I have to pay 5-7 dollars just to get MY money is dumb. well after 4 long years of using this card and getting bent over a barrel on atm fees. come tax season this year. I WILL NOT BE USING HNR BLOCK OR THE EMERALD CARD

I walked into H&R Block in Akron Ohio, on alrington road. I signed in and waited to be helped. I sat in the waiting area a good 30 minutes before any employee acknowledged me. When an older gentleman approached the front he asked me if I was waiting to be seen. I answered yes. He yelled "did you fill out a form?" At me. I answered back no I signed in. The...

I have been with hr block for over 15 years faithfully. Last year they messed up my taxes by spelling me and my children's names wrong and my husbands was spelled correctly (we all have the same last name). That incident made the government deny our tax return and it took another week for the so called tax professional to fix... This year we went into to...

My husband carries tax debt from a business bankruptcy some years ago. For 2013, our first year married, we filed married but separate to guard against his debt taking my refund. For 2014, we met with a "tax professional" at the Murrieta, CA office of H&R Block (10/13/15) and were advised that we could file jointly but with an Injured Spouse Allocation. We...

H&R Block screw up our taxes. We receive a CRA notice of reassessment and have to pay back $300+. H&R Block tell us the following: "Thank you for providing us with a copy of xxxxx’s Processing Review & Notice of Reassessment for her 2014 taxes. We have reviewed the changes made by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and determined that H&R Block will be responsible for the interest portion charged and due on October 26, 2015." We paid to use their software. The software has a "bug" and they only pay the interest? Is this even legal?

I have used H&R Block for the past three years and at this point, I will never use this company again. I was charged $275 for an in-person tax preparation because the employee assigned to my account was on vacation. I was never once notified that my taxes were not going to be submitted on time. So, I moved from NYS to Tennessee and have never filed taxes with H&R Block before. Being a "Nationally Recognized" company, I figured what could go wrong. Well plenty did and I have had no resolution.
So here goes:
My wife and I go into the Dandridge TN H&R Block office to have our taxes done. We meet with Dave Mcadoo, employee of H&R Block. He looks at our paperwork and W2's. He inputs all data into the computer and states that we are getting over $6000 from the feds. My wife and I are excited. But then in the same breath, Mr. Mcadoo states that he was wrong, we owe the feds over $6000 dollars. Our hearts sank and we went on like this for a few minutes. Then Mr. Mcadoo states that he should fix the errors on the form that were highlighted. The errors are fixed and we are now getting just over $900 back from the feds. What a roller coaster ride. The federal side of the taxes are now complete and it costs me $260.00 dollars. For the NY State side of the taxes, they have to be completed by Vito, an H&R Block representative in NC, who is licensed to complete NYS taxes.
So my state taxes are sent to Vito. No extra costs were discussed by Mr. Mcadoo so I figured that the $260 dollars I just paid encompasses all taxes. I was wrong.
After a week, I get a call from Vito in NC and he needs my credit card as I am to be charged another $74 dollars to have my NYS taxes done. I am slated to get a return of $94 dollars from NYS. So after stewing over this, I have to pay the new fee to have my state taxes done.
In the meantime, Mr. Mcadoo calls me and states that he has to file an amendment to my federal taxes as he forgot to add my state taxes into it. So for the first time ever, I have to file an amendment to my taxes. With the corrected error I have to go into H&R Block and pick up the amendment and I have to pay to have the amendment mailed, even though this was not my error. Why do I have to mail the taxes, what am I paying H&R Block for. So I have to pay almost $10 dollars to mail my amended federal taxes.
Great.
No being happy at this experience thus far, I file a complaint with H&R Block via phone. I am given a complaint number but that was it. No phone call, no resolution, nothing. No one called me and I had to follow up with them four times. Finally I was given the answer to contact the H&R Block branch that I filed my taxes with. I will get to that issue soon.
So my taxes are done. I have my federal money and I am waiting for my $94 dollar state return. That $94 dollar return never comes, instead I get a bill from NYS tax and finance that states I owe them $712 dollars in taxes and fees.
I call H&R Block immediately but now it is off tax season so I cannot reach anyone.
So now I have to do leg work myself. I call NYS tax and finance office. What I find out is unbelievable. I have my state tax form that was completed by Vito. Speaking with NYS tax and finance, we compare the form that I have and the form that they received. The state tax return forms are different, from the one I have and the one NYS has. WHAT. Boxes and values are different. MY states that I get money back and NYS states that I owe them.
Now I am steamed.
I finally get a hold of H&R Block and speak with a representative. They are amazed. So now another amendment has to be done to correct the errors, and guess who has to mail it to NYS. Oh yeah, me again.
So now I go to the Dandridge TN H&R Block office and finally meet with the franchise owner, Jeremy. I go into my story with him, advising him or how messed up my taxes are and how disappointed I am. As I spoke, I realized that I was wasting my time and breath as Jeremy rolled his eyes about four times. When I finished, his response is that its a computer glitch and he stated " your taxes got done"
What a mess and corporate should be very disappointed at their franchise for this mess. I am very disgruntled, disappointed and will never use H&R Block again. I will make sure that I am very vocal about this experience, as I have yet to speak to anyone from the company that actually gives a hoot. I have had no resolution and still wonder what I spent my money on. I also question the quality of H&R Block employees that are suppose to be experienced and skilled.
Feel free to have someone of value or higher position to give me a shout back if they would like to discuss this further.

Well for one thing, you don't even need a college diploma to get a job doing taxes at HR Block. I know this because my sister-in-law is always looking for warm bodies for her HRBlock office. Nobody stays long because HR Block doesn't bother to train anyone adequately. Secondly, you moved to Tennessee. The IQ drop ftom NY to TN would be enough to cause the bends.
service quality
Wow, what a spiral downhill. H&R Block Oakland had been doing my taxes for 15 years, no real problems, but this year's tax prep... the worse I've ever seen. I'm vowing to just do my own next year. Where do I begin? Well I guess first was the tax preparer who's English was somewhat a challenge for her. Now I'm fine with working through this, it's the Bay Area and even people who's first language is English are challenged. It was her struggle with basic math that was difficult to swallow. Yep... I started doing math long hand without a calculator or sometimes just in my head to come up with the answers. The basic was dividing a whole number in half. The second issue was 3 calls from my tax person's relative on her mobile... I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a professional and I better not be getting personal calls unless something's bleeding, burning or broken. Then they couldn't process my paperwork or payment... for 1/2 hour. I had to stand there as they turned the computers on and off, logged in and out. This was at 10:00 p.m. Well, of course this instigated a problem with my tax prep. So I picked up a call on my home phone (when I was at work). Called the number and was told I could only call back from the number they called!? WHAT? Is this not the 21st century? What would happen if my house burnt down or they shut off my phone? Honestly I'm ready to take the $950 tax return and give it to H&R block to pay for them to train their people correctly. Oh and the best was my preparer's responses that married filing separate was too difficult and then as we were itemizing, she said she didn't want to put in the list of books I donated. So basically, save your time and money here. I guess H&R Block isn't in the tax preparation business anymore.
wrong information
I usually alternate between h&r block and jackson hewett tax service. This year I used h&r. They have my information and things rarely change on my tax forms. This year for some strange reason it only took 15 minutes to prepare my taxes. When I saw my refund I asked if I could get a credit for installing a new hot water heater. The preparer didn't ask me if anything changed or simple tax questions that would get me a better refund. She just typed quietly. The water heater is a legitimate deduction so I included it and they submitted my taxes. When I looked on the federal and state website to view my taxes I couldn't find the refund as being submitted. Then when I dug further I see that the preparer changed my status to single. I've been married for five years and h&r block have me in the system as being married so why did she change that without asking me. I've called several times to get this fixed and keep getting told they will call me back. My preparer is roxanne gibson. The office manager is tracy wales. No one has called me back. What am I to do~ contact the irs and the state of maryland? Very upset and and I won't ever use this tax service again.
specials/deals
I would like to know why people you are trying to get as customers of H&R Block are getting better deals/prices than the people that have been with them for many years. I have gone through H&R Block for about ten years now and keep seeing all these deals for people switching to them but no deals for continuous loyal customers. I love the service but hate feeling like I as a customer don't matter. I understand needing or wanting more business but the people that do support you are left unnoticed and feelibg underappreciated. Would love to hear back from you. My email is [protected]@aol.com. let me know you care please! Sincerely, loyal customer
mis filing
I waited for my income tax refund to be automatically deposited in my checking account. Imagine my surprise when I received a letter from the IRS stating my refund had been denied because I filed a MI-1040 but failed to file a property tax credit form, MI-1040CR. I had my taxes done at H&R Block in Williamston Michigan on January 24, 2015. We sat there for nearly 2 hours while 2 women could not properly figure out my refund because they could not determine what they were doing wrong. I receive Social Security and only file for the Homestead Property Tax Credit and was to receive $1200. Finally the lady, Jaclyn Kayser, told me she would continue to work on the forms to figure out what she was missing and get back with us or even deliver it to our home. At that point she charged me $20 instead of the normal $35 because of the wait they put us through. When I called to find out why the form MI-1040CR was not included in the mailing, the woman told me it was because I didn't pay them. When she finally realized I did pay, then she sent the form to the IRS. This is wrong in so many ways...I did everything correctly and they failed me. Now I have another long wait for the money that is due me.

2014 taxes
i paid them 331.00 to do mt 2014 taxes my state refund they took and never said nothing, i was told by the repairer that the money owing them would come out of my Federal and my state would be mine. I went to the office and talked to Pamela Williams their manager and she told me my federal should be here by the 11th of Feb. and she did not know anything about the state when she call the state office it came back they never received it, so i call myself and my state went into H&R Block account on Feb 2, 2015. so she know why didn't she just tell me. The woman at the State Commission told me it went to their bank, so H&R Block are lairs I will never go back to them. They just what that big amount of money for doing nothing. i should have listen to my sister-law and not got ripe off by them. a loan company look at my taxes said they could down the same thing for 100. and it would not of cost me nothing for them do my state. i am 56 years old how could they do things like that and get away with it. I will and can send copies of everything though a fax but i am using my company computer and i cant scan anything Thank You Nedra Jones
bloomfield, ct park avenue manager
We made an appointment and was taken aback by the "Manager" that took 2 hours to do pretty much nothing and asked us to come back at a later date because she was too tired to continue processing our return. Throughout those two hours she had to ask her colleague various questions and had to receive assistance to go from screen to screen and asking questions tax preparers should already know.
This was last Friday. Today is Monday. I went back on Saturday she had not started our tax preparation until today. She called me asking questions I answered on Friday. Without finishing our return she tells me we make too much money and probably would not receive any money back. She was laid back and rude. This information and situation is important and she could not have cared less.
I am filing a complaint any and everywhere I can because is the Manager and the protocol is to contact her.
H & R Block charges way too much money for our return to not be filed SEVERAL days later and for a manager to treat my husband and myself as if we are interrupting her nap. She asked the receptionist several times how many appointments did she have the next day and seemed overwhelmed, confused and dated on information she would be abreast of. It was a terrible experience. We are going back to Liberty Tax. H & R Block was our place up until 2010. I see why I waited so long to return.
cannot get prior year tax forms
Tax forms completed by H&R Block for prior year (either 2011 or 2012) were not picked up when completed, and unfortunately forgotten, until IRS notified us that they received no forms for that year. Now for the past several months, we have been getting the run around about getting the forms. When we call, they say they will call us back regarding them, but they never return the call.
