H&R Block / HRB Digital holding money hostage

I went to pay my electric bill and i told the lady i need this amount put on my bill and she messed up and put a different amount on my bill from my green dot card and i said no ...thats the wrong amount...so she cancelled it and when she did the money went into a holding state on the green dot card and i cant get it put back on my card until the experation date of the holding status which is 3 wks. from then...sooo i have no money now to pay on my account til payday and they are going to turn my electric off-tomorrow no thanks to the scamming green dot company. I tried calling them several times to plead with them and i get the same story of"you have to wait until the experation date of the hold goes by...and everytime you call them they charge you two dollars on your card right away...scamming ###...Bad company and useless card.

I don't know how many of you have used the H and R Block Emerald Card to receive your tax returns. I have. We can keep the cards for direct deposit or even load funds on it through Western Union or Money Gram. I loaded money on the card about three weeks ago so I could reserve a hotel and purchase amtrak tickets online. I loaded a little extra just do I...

H&R Block / HRB Digital mistake

H and R Block made a income tax mistake on my 2006 taxes and now I owe over 4, 000 dollars in back taxes! The mistake was made when the preparer didn't look at all the income paperwork that we had turned in to them. H and R Block dragged there feet and finally agreed to pay the penalty and refund the tax prep for that year. But we are now left with the back taxes. We do NOT have 4, 000 dollars sitting in our cookie jar so we will have to make payments to the IRS along with interest for H and R Blocks mistake! There reply was "make sure you check your return over before you sign it" I think this stinks and want to let potential consumers know that H and R Blocks advertising statement "Satisfaction Guaranteed" is just advertising fluff!

We will not be having are taxes done by these "professionals" EVER AGAIN!

i did the mistake of doing the advance with h+r block and it completely ruined my refund. according to them you would only be approved for the refund if ur tax return was a large sum, if it wasnt then you wouldnt be approved for a line of credit. so when i went they told me my refund would be about 2, 045 for 2008. and that i was approved for 500. so in my mind i thought when it came time to do my taxes i would be able to pay it back and still have enough left over to catch up on some bills. needless to say when it came tax time the person who did my loan messed up with the figures and i was only getting back 692.00 in that case i wouldnt have been approved for the line of 500.00 if my refund was that small. so they ended up taking 527.00 for the loan which was supposed to be 500.00 and then took out another fee of 78.00 and then having to pay the state 164.00 so i ended up walking away with 57.00 at the end of it all. i have used h+r block for years and never had a problem with them until now, and ever since this experience i wont be returning to them.

H&R Block / HRB Digital very costly miscalculation on 2006 tax return

We used the services of H&R Block, Wentzville (falling under the St Charles, MO office) for our 2006 tax return. We purchased their Peace of Mind guarantee at the time. We were audited by the IRS for the tax return and it was revealed that H&R Block made substantial errors in the return totaling over $13, 840 which we were informed we now owed. When we filed in 2006 H&R we originally refunded by federal and state (California) authorizes over $6, 300. So we now had to return not only the $6, 300+ we had been refunded but also an additional $7, 000+. We needed to pay the IRS $9, 712 - and we are told to expect, due to the errors, that the states of CA and MO will claim from us another additional $1, 900 when they are finished assessing the new filing. H&R Block admitted the very significant mistake (and in actual fact, in the process of determining the new, correct amount owed, discovered another basic but substantial error in their calculations and methods - while this resulted in less owed, it still underlines the fact that they made two very large errors). H&R Block honored the Peace of Mind guarantee by paying us (June 12, 2008) a check for $7, 330.47. This included their standard guarantee for penalty and interest ($2, 300, 47) plus the maximum allowed under the guarantee of $5, 000. In short, we still needed to pay $9, 712. H&R Block legal department has written to us (Regina Akers, Senior Paralegal) to inform us that they will not consider additional payments above and beyond what their Peace of Mind guarantee promises. Leter dated July 18, 2008. We believe this is unacceptable. Never in our wildest imagination, and I gather from discussions I have had with H&R Block representatives, that such substantials errors should ever be made by a professional tax preparer.

Your Desired Resolution:

We want to appeal H&R Block to make an exception to their Peace of Mind guarantee rule and pay for the difference of $9, 712 that we are now out of pocket. All discussions with regional management has met with only referral to the legal department who have answered as stated above. In addition we want them to pay for the money will need to pay back to the states of CA and MO in due course (approx. $1, 900)

I agree. In your complaint, at the end, you mentioned that you didn't expect this from "tax professionals". I needed to say that H&R Block are not tax professionals. They are merely just housewives, or those alike, that use that job as part time employment and just do the taxes off software, much like Turbo Tax or something thereof. Most of them only know certain information because they've done it for years, but still, they do not have a degree in accounting or anything like that, sad to say. (I'm using Turbo Tax from this day forward)

H&R Block / HRB Digital never again

This is my story. I had my tax refund direct deposited onto my Emerald card. I got the rapid refund loan. This disqualified me from getting my stimulus direct deposited. The last 2 digits of my SSN are 98. This means I am one of the last to receive a paper check in the mail.

I called H&R Block customer service (which is a joke by the way) and asked them this: "Since I don't have another bank and I have my payroll directly deposited onto this card, where can I cash my check when I receive it in the mail?" They had NO CLUE, and they didn't care.

I send them questions about other things in emails and every single! time, they send me the same generic response. Please CALL our customer service. So I asked them this: "What the he! Good is using the emails when this is your same response EVERY time?" They had NO CLUE. Also, they charge you $2.50 to call customer service.

The people that answer the phones there have to look up the answer every time for even the simple questions. They are underpaid so I am assuming, not educated. The reason I know this is because one of them actually told me she got her electric shut off!

Adding salt to my wounds was being declined at Wal-Mart to cash the check because when they ran it through their telechek machine, it was coming up system error. The guy at Wal-Mart said it can't be a telechek error, because I always get a receipt with a fail reason code and a phone number for people to call. There was nothing. Over and over again. They couldn't figure it out and they said there was no way to override. Well, considering I signed the f-ing thing in front of them, as is their rule, I said well, now what do I do? They didn't have a clue. I said I will call telechek and maybe I had a mark on there from a long time ago. Turns out, I did. From May of 2003. I said that is over 5 years old. They said it stays on there for 7 years. I said what can I do to take care of it? She said I can pay telechek over the phone with a credit or debit card. I did not know that telechek is now a DEBT COLLECTOR too! This was a matter of $51 and a service charge of $25 of course. Well, go figure, since I had a check for $900, I spent my last 89.99 online for a software upgrade before I knew I would be declined by Wal-Mart.

Here's my opinion about telechek. Isn't that service there to warn companies about bad checks? Obviously, the US Treasury should not even be scanned by a check system. I know this because I asked telechek, "How can telechek have anything to say about this?" They said take it to a place that does not use telechek. This response, in combination with a lack of an error code, leads me to believe I am right. I will be complaining about them too.

On top of the wonderful day I was having, I finally went home (disappointed and ashamed) and got locked out of my place! When I took 1 of my 3 dogs outside, one of the other dogs jumped up and hit the deadbolt! I had to crawl through a window. I work full time and try to pay ALL of my bills. Why do I feel like such a loser right now? I even went to college and now I have GINORMOUS DEBT!

Well, I'm done complaining for now. I will NOT be filing my taxes at H&R Block EVER EVER EVER again. I have been using them for 15 years.

Wish me luck, for tomorrow I will try my luck at cashing Uncle Sam's piece of paper once again!

Wal-Mart does not cash checks for people that have passed bad checks there before. How is that Block's fault? How is Block supposed to deal with the fact that you don't have a bank to cash your checks like regular people do? And all Americans who did not have their refund deposited into their own bank account got a paper check. Block did not make up that rule, the government did. You can not go back to Block, but exactly the same thing would have happened to you at Jackson Hewitt, Liberty Tax, or any other tax office in the country.

H&R Block / HRB Digital rip off

H&R emerald card # when called to inquire about economic relief refund stated that the IRS would be sending a check. 6 weeks later I called the IRS and was told the money had been deposited in my bank account (H&R Emerald card). I called H&R Block # again and recording still stated refund was coming from the IRS in the form of a check. I was finally able to get a hold of an H&R Block rep in a 3rd world country and was told they were not aware of the recording? Come on! They have used my money for over 6 weeks because of their fraudulent message.

H&R Block / HRB Digital unreliable preparers

I am so very disappointed with H & R this tax year as well as last year. The representatives are horrible. They smile in your face and as soon as you challenge them on their mistakes, you are suddenly the enemy. They have been giving me the runaround regarding the status of my taxes and I am at a lost as to what to do next. They have cause me a huge amount of stress and I will NEVER use their overpriced services again.

My complaint is legitimate and I am too frustrated to share the details of their mistake because it is far from professional and completely irresponsible.

Bob your complaint is the one I hear the most. While H&R Block's pricing is very competitive
with Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax Service, H&R Block can not and probably never will be able to compete on price with mom&pop shops and some local accountants. Each area of the county is different but in my local area (not a large city) CPA firms charge $350 per hour not $100. You mentioned depreciation and rental housing and said you spent nearly 2 hours.
That sounds about right. H&R Block has no way of importing data from your accountant, so
everything has to be entered again. That takes time. Unfortunately, most people expect every
preparer to be an expert. I wish that was true but in reality H&R Block hires and fires just like everyone else. Demand a Senior Tax Advisor 5 or better yet an Enrolled Agent, whenever you have something beyond a basic return.

In the past H&R Block did not give price quotes. This year they have price ranges, but frankly the ranges are so broad I believe they are of little value to most clients. In your case, I would have told you I will input the information, show you the results, answer your questions, and then if you are not happy with the price, you are under no obligation to pay. I can't be more fair than that.

Frankly, if you believed you preparer was incompetent you should have collected your documents and walked. The last thing you should do is sign and pay.

Regarding Peace of Mind: In my experience, the clients that need it the most are the ones least likely to buy it. Peace of Mind covers the errors I make and the errors the computer makes, provided you make a timely claim. I can't tell you the number of times people have come in with a letter from IRS that they have sat on for 6 to 9 months. At that point, if the IRS's position is legit there is nothing I can do except advise you to pay what is due.

LOL, I love your last paragraph where you say it is a rip off but indicate you might come to work for H&R Block. Priceless!

In all seriousness, you should sign up for the tax course, every taxpayer should.

i have always used h&r block, other than the high cost i never had a problem. i became un able to work and filed for my dissability the year before. i told my friend he could claim as a dependent. i took all the paper work to h&r block gave it to the worker explained that my friend was claiming me as a dependant. to make a long story short.when i went to the clinic they denied me my health care and meds because the h&r block put me down as a spouse instead of dependant like i told him. this if not corrected will hurt me on my dissabilityalso. oh yes, i also had to correct him on his work when he said he was getting about 300.00. isaid you need to figure that again he said oh i made a mistake your refund is 2756.00. that should have been my first clue

H & R Block charged me $554.00 to do taxes that took my previous accountant (now moved out of State) 1 hour to do, out the door. I am a very good bookeeper and am informed before going to the preparer, but like to have other's coomplete my taxes because they supposedly "know the tax program".

My previous accountant / tax preparer charged $100 / hour. Asking H & R block up front of what cost should be they can not give you an answer other than "after we put everything in then we will know". Of Course, at the end of session you can choose not to have prepared document submitted. What a crock! My wife and I spent nearly 2 hours with the preparer that had to make numerous phone calls to another office because she could not figure how depreciation and rental housing went into their system. This from a 5 year H & R Block Vetran! After, spending 2 hours with this office in Midland, Michigan, wasting time with incompetance and coached the preparer along in their own program to complete. I was ready to leave. Questioning the fee of $542.00 I was shocked. I tried negotiating with office manager and was advised to contact the District Manager about the unfairness of the charge. All I got was lip service. Figuring we already put too much time into the 2008 returns we paid and got out. After settling a bit, I called corporate business office in Kansas made a formal complaint with no response back. Of course I called to check status 3 or 4 times and get "I will upgrade your complaint status to priority, you should here back from somebody in a couple of days". It would have been satisfied with paying up to $250.00 - but, not happy.

The peace of mind I agree that is a scam. That only does cover their mistakes in calculations. Not entry errors or your errors.

I will never use this rip off service again. A matter of fact I might even apply for a job at H & R Block. Side note! My family owns a dairy farm and has very complicated taxes. They go to a privatley owned H & R Block and were charged $380.00. Wow... most Lawyers charge $200 / hour is this place really that good?

You know, I am have been using H and R for ten years, I had a baby last year and so I didnt file but I convinced my fiancee to go to them, we moved to a new town recently and used the local H and R block location Carthage, Missouri. I've never in my life have had to deal with service this bad, not just as far as H and R is concerned but businesses as a whole. First of all, we brought in last years return to get our childrens social security numbers off of, they entered our daughters in incorrectly, seriously delaying the return, then when we finally got notification from the IRS that the return would be here on the 17th, the IRS sent us a notice apologizing for the delay and told us two key tax credits were missed by the preparer, that increased our refund by over 1200 dollars. We complained to the office about the social security number error and they blamed us, even though the preparer read it directly from last years return. Everything that happened was our fault, according to our tax professional ( and I use the word preofessional as loosely as possible). So we didn't even bother contact them about missing the tax credits, because we knew that would somehow be our fault as well.

Above all this, they were not even friendly at the store, I would compare the atmosphere and their attitudes to that of a fast food chain with unhappy teenagers that are annoyed with you for coming to their restaurant and making them work. I will never use H and R block again, even though I recieved good service from their other stores, if they allow one store to get away with that type of behavior and have people working with customers taxes that do not know what they are doing, they are not the kind of company I am going to give my business to.

the amount you received for your stimulus payment has to be inputed on your tax return no matter who does it. they might have been misinformed but even if they but the amount in the software they use would not have made a deductions. everyone is freaking out cause they have to put how much they got on this years return and the only reason is so that if you didn't get the full amount or your status changed last year you would qualify for more. i am sorry they were wrong but it wouldn't have affected your return.

I am so disgusted. I have had my taxes prepared through H&R Block for 12 years. I went to an office in Clewiston, Florida. The first words out of their mouths were that everybody had to pay back the stimulus check they received last year. I knew this was ridiculous. So I checked around with other H&R Blocks. They told me Clewiston, Florida's H&R Block was misunderstood. They would inform them that they were not supposed to deduct the stimulus check. I waited 2 weeks before returning to file taxes and asked if they were still deducting the stimulus checks. They said yes. I said your not supposed to because I checked around. They laughed at me. I am happy to say that I went to Jackson Hewitt and they gave us an extra $600.00 stimulus check.

H&R Block / HRB Digital poor customer service/card problems

Have direct deposit. First card has unauthorized purchases, New card invalid because transactions were not approved. Customer service not helpful, toll free service closed on weekends, not 24 hrs customer service, don't answer e-mails immediately, can't access online banking, can't use emerald card to withdraw money, purchase anything, incorrect PIN, etc...etc
It's almost 3 weeks and nothing, leaves me penniless, wondering if I can go to work tomorrow, no money even just to pay my bus fare! It ought to be called H&R Blood Bank because it drains you out of blood with the way they operate.

H&R Block / HRB Digital do not use if military! no rebate for us!

My husband was deployed last year so for us to qualify for the stimulus rebate the non taxable combat pay must be on the 1040. Well HR block didn't do that. So when we thought we'd get come extra money...we didn't. Non-taxable combat counts towards income for the rebate. So after sitting on hold for hours with the IRS, I found out I needed it amended the 1040X. Then we could get the rebate as a credit next year!

So I go to HR Block to get it done. This hag tells me it won't do any good. She calls the IRS herself, which has a min. of 1 hour hold time. She has me hold the phone waiting for someone to pick up. She filled out the form then took the phone from me and hung it up! I sat there for 15 mins holding her phone for her for nothing. Now I have to wait a year because HR Block didn't put a number on my return!

I've heard from others including an IRS employee that we should still get the rebate. Why the *** can't people just do their job and actually know what the *** is going on. When you pay for a service you expect to get what you pay for.

Do not use HR Block. These people have no idea what they are doing!

So, you include not taxable combat pay, making it taxable, pay the tax, to get the refund? If you wait til O8 you get the rebate, with out having to pay any extra tax.

Was the non taxable combat pay your only source of income? You qualify for the rebate if you have at least $3000 of income, but you don't get any more regardless of your income. As a matter of fact, if your income is too high, your rebate actually gets reduced. If you had $3000 of other source income (did you have a job?) then you will get a stimulus rebate regardless of your combat income being left off the return. Maybe it just hasn't been processed yet. Many of the rebates will go out in June and July. If you didn't have any other income, it perplexes me as to why you were filing a tax return.

H&R Block / HRB Digital paying more for bad service

I went to H & R Block to have my taxes done, and paid the $200. to have my money paid to me the next day. When my taxes where turned in there were several mistakes which I was called to correct. Then apparently they were not turned in or lost. I called several times and no one returned my calls, nobody could answer what happened to the money. Then finally I got through to someone in the main office and was told my taxes would be free.

In the end when I received my check it came with a coupon for 50% off my taxes next year at H & R Block. The $200. was not refunded.

I paid h and r block over 500.00 dollars for my taxes and still nothing. When I filed they said that I would receive my taxes is 20 days, but 2 months later nothing. I am so mad. When you try and call no one is there they left and when you contact IRS all they say is "working on it". I feel that I should not have to pay next year or receive my money back. Why did I pay 500.00 no one can answer my question. I only have one job and my husband is unemployed and just had twin girls. Nothing very hard, I will never use h and r block again.

10 years of service does not mean the preparer is an expert at anything.

Demonstrated experience is a great criteria but unfortunately most of us do not prepare all 50
states in a given year.

If you want the best H&R Block has to offer, then insist that an Enrolled Agent (EA) prepare your return. We don't have EAs in my area, so your next best bet is a Senior Tax Advisor V.

If you go to an H&R Block office and have a unique situation, call ahead and ask to have an appointment made with a tax pro that has at least 10 years of service with the company as well as demonstrated experience in the areas you are concerned about (multi-state income, for example). An HRB office is a mix of seasoned veterans and "newbs", all able to do different things. I can't say anything that makes better past, bad experiences, but neither can I indict all preparers that work for HRB as charlatans.

I have done my own taxes since I bought my first home in 1982. This year I worked in two different states, bought a home and had moving expenses so I thought it might be best to get a "professional" to do my taxes this year. Boy did I get screwed...the lady did not know what form to fill out for the second state and most of my refund went to them despite the fact I had so many deductions. I filed a complaint with BBB only to find out H&R Block are NOT members. Nor did they respond to the many request of the BBB Investigator.
Never again, it does not pay to do the right thing if H&R Block does your taxes! RUN FORREST, RUN

H&R Block / HRB Digital i'm pissed and confused

I went with H&R Block from the recommendation of a friend. Never again! This was my first and last year with them. I got the Emerald Card crap and I regret it. The fees that H&R Block charged were extremely high and I wish I would've stayed with my small town tax preparer. I paid the $300+ fee upfront and the money was available the next day. It was my daughter's birthday and I wanted it to be special for her so I paid the fee. Does this mean I will get a paper check or what? I'm confused.

You stated you paid your fee upfront for a loan... that is completly untrue. When you apply for a loan, H&R Block fees are paid from the bank to them. They don't receive a fee for preparing your taxes until you are paid under the conditions you stated. They do taxes, and that is what you pay for. The "loan" you requested is done because customers demand them. They don't force you to take them, and most preparers would prefer you didn't ask for them because they require mounds of paperwork (for which the preparers are NOT paid a dime) just so you can get money quick. The only people who make extra money for the service (loan) are working at the bank. H&R Block does NOT approve the loan, or even have a say in the approval process. It is done by the bank. Most people who apply for the loan have little money, and many are desperate for quick cash. They will go anywhere they can to get it. There are only a few tax business that offer these loans and I wish nobody did. You demand it. You get it. You pay for it. One of the last parts of preparing the tax return is to ask if the customer is satisified with the job the professional did. If you are not, you are free to take your documents and leave and go somewhere else. Next time do them a favor and go somewhere else. Maybe you can ask you local CPA for a loan. Good luck.

If you get denied from HSBC bank then your money will still go on the card in 8-15 business days. I've heard that this this year has been the worst. They're not training their "tax professionals" and people are getting charged fees for instant money never being told they have to go through HSBC. And then they tell they're cutomers they're approved even if they dont know. They never get an update on their $$ status...So thats when they call into the call center which costs $2 per call...only to find out from the reps they're not approved...Thats supposed to be the banks job!

H&R Block / HRB Digital emerald card & tax stimulus rebate

Are you an hr block customer that got the emerald debit card this year? Well, guess what, so did many many others! Now your patiently waiting for your tax rebate to be direct deposited since your refund was, right? Wrong! Unless you paid your fees up front, you will get a paper check, and most people I know did not pay their fees up front because the fees were so outrageous! Would you have filed with them had you known this was going to happen? I know I sure wouldn’t have! I know for a fact this will hurt their business next year. I have thousands of complaints on other boards about this, so I really expect hr block to make some serious offers at christmas this year to entice customers, because you know that they know they are screwed for next tax season. Most people that used them this year will hopefully do their taxes themselves through the irs. The main reason I am upset isn’t because I will be getting a paper check at the end of june (Argg!) , but the fact that if I didnt choose the emerald card when I went to hr block this year, I would have to pay an extra twenty dollars for a paper check! I know twenty bucks isn’t a lot, but it was the principal of the thing! I didn’t want to pay an extra twenty dollars for a piece of paper, so instead I opted for a little green plastic card that had soo many great benefits (Not!) that how could I go wrong by getting it? Now gas is 3.50 a gallon, and milk, bread, and eggs have gone sky high and I really need the free money (Yeah right!) the government has promised me. I would doing great this week because it would have came to me by direct deposit, if I hadn’t had hr block take their fee from my refund. Because of this, I am now penalized and have to wait till the end of june along with many other americans! Can I wait? Sure I can! But the point is, we were conned into this card, and now when we all so desperately could use the money, we have to wait even longer, after being told over and over through hr block customer service that yes, as long as our refund came direct deposit, then our tax rebate would too! What a lie!

I just sincerely hope that everyone that got shammed into this card and had this problem this year will remember next january and try to do them ourselves! If you are on the hr block emerald card hater bandwagon, please post! Thanks for the rant.

i have been going to hr block for about 7 years, even though its expensive, i get my money pretty quick...not this year...i was told i was denied the same day advance, so i paid the extra 60 bucks for the 1 to 2 day advance...well after 5 days still no refund...so called them, now they said i was denied for the 2 to 3 day advance.after it said i was approved for it on their computers...also its free to call them for questions...but if you call them 3 times, on that 3rd call they charge you 2 dollars...thats why during my first two calls all they would say ...dont worry you were approved it will be on there...its all a scam...my brother is going to start doing it on turbo tax...it cost my brother 10 bucks, and he get his money in 7 to 10 days...hr block is a rip off...turbo tax is the way to go! if you make under 30 thousand it cost $10.60 with turbo tax...and they did his state all for a grand total 0f nothing, e-file was free...turbo tax will walk you through step by step...good bye hr block go rip someone else off, not me ever again...i hope you get sued again, i would love to be part off that class action lawsuit...

H&R Block / HRB Digital more like deception card

I had an anticipation loan put on my Emerald card...well, after a couple of days, I got my loan. then couple of days afterwards i got my income taxes on the card. I was told that my anticipation loan would come directly out of my taxes as soon as they hit the card for the loan that i owed them. Well, it didn't but, i sure am missing a whole lot of money. And i mean like grands. I thought for sure with the money missing that they took their fees and loan out. Well, a month or 2 went by and i started getting these bills in the mail that i owe HSBC Bank (which is the bank they pull the loans through) that i owe them 500 + dollars...well, when i confronted the H&R Block station where i had my taxes done, the "general manager" said, well, it must of been a glitch in the system. Well, i asked do i still have to pay the bank back because of their "worry free guarentee", she said well yea, it wasn't OUR fault, it was the computers. I am so upset by this. So, when the bank called to "collect a debt" i asked the lady about the situation, and she said "Oh no! Not another one" well obviously this has happened to many many people.

H&R Block / HRB Digital two state income taxes filed incorrectly

Twice, HR Block incorrectly prepared and electronically filed my Maryland state income taxes. One state income tax was incorrectly prepared and filed by a HR Block senior tax consultant. Because of HR Blocks incorrect state tax preparation and filing I lost two state refunds.

HR Block is mum on this issue. I have tried, but found it impossible to have a simple conversation with anyone from HR Block to resolve this matter.

Therefore, I have contacted the Maryland State Comptrollers office, the State of Maryland Pension agency, our local TV investigative reporters and a lawyer. In conversation with these offices and in checking the paper work, all say HR Block indeed twice prepared and filed incorrect Maryland state income tax forms and I am due two refunds. My lawyer said the HR Block Piece of Mind policy has no standing in this matter.

HR Block advertises the following on their web site and yet I can not get them to review their own work. HR Block, if I pay the $29.00 will you review your own paper work?

H&R Block Second Look® Offer - only $29*

Your taxes are done. Were they done right? You've got people to make sure. Let H&R Block review your tax return, no matter who prepared it, for only $29*.

Last year, we found errors on 87% of all the returns that were brought to us for a Second Look® review. Those who expected a refund and refilled with us received, on average, an additional $1, 300*.

A flat tax rate and this kind of thing would never happen. Imagine, a industry has sprung up because the tax laws are so confusing and they are also confused. Who knew? The IRS is also known to give out bad advice. The surreal is real. Kafka make more sense than the tax codes at all levels.

It's hard to tell from your complaint what happened. Filing two tax returns will not get you two refunds. Everyone would be filing dozens of returns if this were the case.

Hard to believe that H&R Block is 'mum on the issue'. What does that mean? Dead silence when you ask them about it? They all duck out the back door when you walk in? They hang up on you when you call? All unlikely.

It would be interesting to hear H&R Block's side of the story. Do they disagree that there was a mistake? What kind of a mistake would cause you to 'lose' your refund. Why were two returns filed?

You took your complaint to a lot of places, but did you go to H&R Block's District level? Mistakes can be corrected with amended returns, so if you don't trust H&R Block, take your copy(s) of the return(s) and have another preparation company fix them and since you already have a lawyer, sue H&R Block for the charges of correcting the mistake.

H&R Block / HRB Digital your fees

Sirs:
I have had H&R Block do my taxes for years. We do not take our taxes to you rep. in a bushel basket. We have it all sorted & entered in a Wilson Jones ledger & categorized in their respective collumns. Your rep. remarked that it doesn't take any time at all to go thru our info. I realize that your fees go up, but this year it went up 60% from last years 2006 return! My wife (Jeanette Larsen) asked why, & the rep. said that H&R sets the fees? We had our return done in your Sheridan, Wy. 82801 office on Coffeen Ave. I am 71 and am on a modest income. I give you permission to check my return if you wish. My wife is on SS disability for life & it seems that $344.00 is way too much for us senior citizens to pay. Respectfully...Dave Larsen

A H&R Block employee made a huge error on my taxes! The error cost me an audit and I now owe the IRS $6000.00! The "Tax Pro" said I could claim my girlfriend's kids since they have lived with me for at least 6 months. She was wrong, it's 12months not 6! Now I just finished my audit and I was over paid on my return. H&R Block said they would pay for the penalties but I am responible for the $6000.00 error. H&R Block did my taxes, H&R Block told me what to do and H&R Block made the blunder! So, why am I responible for H&R Block's mistake? I was a H&R Block customer for over 15 years! $6000.00 is alot of money for a single income family of 4!

H&R Block / HRB Digital beware of h & r block and hsbc

I got my taxes done at h & r block, and was offered a refund anticipation loan. I paid for this and was told I would get my money in 1-2 days. as hsbc (the administrator of the loan) was guaranteed to receive their money from the irs directly, I had no idea I could be denied, nor was I advised of this possibility. I called to pick up my check and was told I was denied. they would not give me a reason, and said I would still owe them $49.95. I said I was never advised of this. they told me to look through my paperwork, and sure enough, there was a paper that explained this, but not on any paper I had signed. the part of the contract containing this information was put into an envelope, and handed to me after I had completed signing my returns and other paperwork. my daughter in law had her taxes done at the same time, and was also not advised of this. she received her check, but after taking it to 5 banks (3 of which h & r suggested) including her own, she had to deposit the check and a 10 day hold was put on it. she was told by all 5 banks that they had to put a hold because hsbc could be slow in paying. this is all a scam. beware!

I am having problems with my car so I did a RAL for H&R block, I have done this in the past but this year I was denied the RAL could not get explanation over the phone from HSBC. Well if I am going to get denied I would have done the taxes myself and saved $300. If HSBC not going to approve then loan right there and then then this should be offerd by H&R block. I have also had problems with Jackson Hewitt with giving me a check and I deposited it into the bank and started wriiting checks to pay bills, only to find out that the money from the check would not be deposited into my account for 10 days well I had checks bounce all over and Threat to sue my bank and Jackson Hewitt, well needless to say I got my money for filling taxes through Jackson hewitt and got my overdraft fees dropped from my bank.
