discrimination
I recently signed up with Pure Fitness in Tempe, AZ and the next day I learned that it was closing. I assured that my membership would be honored at any LA Fitness location if I signed a waiver and at the closest one to me on Southern Ave. Despite the fact that I had already paid for two months, when I went to the LA Fitness on Southern Ave in Tempe, AZ I was denied entry. I was told that my billing information had not been entered and that I could not gain entry. When I told the attendant (who happened to be the Operations Manager) that I had already paid for two months and that my financial information had already been provided, I was informed that I could not go in unless I gave him my financial information again. What is perhaps most upsetting, is that a white woman had been right in front of me and had the same cinrcumstances, but she was not given a hard time nor was she denied entry. I am a male Hispanic/Latino . This is clearly a racist man who despite his position as the "Operations Manager" should have at least acted with some decorum. Not only was this a blatantly racist and discriminatory act, but it clearly is a scam as well as I had already made payment and I was still denied access to the facility. This is truly a horrible place to go to. Avoid it!

dirty facilities, rip off
LA fitness in Ardmore, PA. When I first joined and it was new it was clean. Now it is dirty. There was dirt at the
bottom of the pool the other night. Do members have to continually tell them how dirty it is? Shouldn't they just vacuum the pool and clean the locker rooms and bathrooms without being told about dirt? It will be clean
for a while and then go straight back to being filty. They should stop opening facilities and pay the workers
a liveable wage. They tried to get me to join their fitness program by paying another fee and then a monthly fee when I was already paying my monthly fee and had paid my membership fee. So anyone joining beware. I told them to go take a walk. I swim there because I cannot find any other pool.
This is a growing problem for this company and local health depts are playing close attention! They are building new clubs around the U.S. faster than they can manage them creating increasing complaints from even new members at newly built clubs. Stained carpets in the locker rooms with exessive odor build up. Dirty saunas growing viruses from lack of proper sanitization. Incompetent managers who's last job was managing a Gap or a Taco Bell. I have complained to local and national management, but no replies or action is ever taken to improve sanitary issues. This at the height of one of the worst cold and flu seasons ever. I know 2 people who quit the gym and are healthier since they've done it and are adamant it was the lockerroim and equipment germs making them sick.
They are sucessful with their mass member recruiting they do B of A style by having Fitness Day sign ups with special company group rates where they come to your employer and sign you up. And finally, they are successful on attracting the Biggest Loser audience and in many cases at clubs have a higher obese member rate than they do a fitember rate. And for the record, it appears from my observation that the obese members aren't very successful in loosing weight!
sexual harassment
Where do I even start... I'm not even getting into the fact that they screwed me out of hundreds of dollars by way of intentionally misleading verbiage and outright deception. I've already sent my cancellation letter and I'm currently trying to negotiate a price to buy myself out of the PT program. The first trainer I ever had there was fired after not...

LAfitness sent me a promotional email offered me a 6 months guest priviledge if i renew my membership with them by the end of my active menbership period. In that email it stated that i can bring a guest for six months as long the guest comes in with me. I finally decided to bring someone as my guest, they told me that the guest priviledge was expired. They told me that the guest priviledge started on the date of signing, howerver on the promotional emailit did not specified any such rule. The rule for the guest priviledge state as long you re an active member you can come in with the guest. That was false advertisement.
front desk attendant
Young man at front desk reception greets clients with a bully greeting; tells people that they should be out at closing time. Also, he walks through women's locker room at closing time. This happened specifically on a Friday evening. The club closes at ten pm.
A middle aged woman who claims to be a police officer also hangs out at this club and claims to members that she helps out. Noone knows if she is a member. What does she help out with at this fitness center?
She approached me in the pool area when I was swimming and shouted " Hey you, Hello! " She shouted at me until I turned around to see who was shouting in the pool area. She then spoke to me in a rough manner and stated she was a cop. She also stated the desk attendant is supposed to walk through the women locker rooms and make sure everyone is gone at closing time. Who is this person who claims she helps out at this club and that she is a cop? I have seen this person outside of the women's locker room standing and watching everyone as they walk by to leave this facility.
Since when is this fitness center policed? Members should be informed if there is a serious problem that requires police at this facility. She is harrassing members and intimidating them as well.
I have NO INTEREST to continue my membership at this facility since there are bullies working at the Walpole location at the front desk.
In addition, a front desk attendant complained to this woman cop who claims to help out at the club and then this "cop" person walked into the pool area and interrupted me and shouted at me to get my attention and then proceeded to bully me about the desk attendant being in the right. She told me to tell the owner about the walk through in the women's locker room. This is ridiculous and outside of employment boundaries for both individuals I have described to be so "OPINIONATED" and rude to the members.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
the front desk guy has to go in the locker room at the end of the night to refill all the amenities and clean everything up...if you weren't working out until close every time your in you most likely wouldnt encounter any problems. ..
also if your taking a shower after your workout, the gym is probably already closed by then. consider the front desk guy doing you a favor staying open
personal training feels like car sale
I just got done with my complimentary personal training session with LA fitness east colonial in orlando fl. Brett seemed knowledgeable enough and the work out kicked my butt. However, at the end, when I expected him to go over the plans neutrally, I felt more and more like I had stepped into a car dealership. He told me since I was a new member I had three days to take advantage of this deal. When I told him I had to talk it over with my fiance he told me today was the last day to decide, that he couldn't do this deal tomorrow, and that his manager is rarely here and is luckily here today to give me the best deal. I reminded him that my third day was actually tomorrow and that I would not make a decision without my fiance, so that we could work our budget as we are saving for a wedding and house. He then proceeds to bring his manager over. This is the worst part. His manager looks at me and asks me how serious am I about doing this. I tell him pretty serious, as I want to get back in shape. He says to me if you sign up today I can do this deal, and I remind him of what I already told the Brett. He then looks at me and says "let me ask you a question, you want to talk this over with your fiance right? do you think he'd get mad at you if you brought this home?" I was like what? mad at me, no why would you ask that. Then he says "well let me ask you this do you make your own money?" I'm like yes. Then he says "well then if you make your own money you can make your own decisions". I could not believe he had just turned me into an abused woman who can't make decisions for herself. I just told him flat out "I will not make a decision today and that our money is tied together and that we make decisions about finances together". He finally got it, gave me the following rate: 3 sessions a month at $75.00 with random trainers and 12 extra sessions with Brett. What *** about this is that this may be an excellent rate, and I may have signed up, but all the slimeiness before it turned me off big time. Do not trust LA fitness personal training programs.
class action lawsuit filed
To all those that have been scammed by LA Fitness cancellation procedures and charges, a $5, 000, 000.00+ (five million dollar ) class action lawsuit has been filed. 03/03/2010 Jay Mua vs LA Fitness ...To see the actual lawsuit:

My advice...stay away from LA Fitness.. Tell all your friends... and don't give them your account number ever...even for a free trial.

unauthorized account charges
LA Fitness added someone to my account today without even contacting me to authorize! My roommate is new in town and wanted to join my gym so we could do classes/workout together. She went into the gym today and asked about her signup options. They asked her if she knew someone who was already a member so she said, 'yes my roommate.' The LA Fitness associate simply asked her for my phone number to pull up my account info and proceeded to add her to my account, just like that. I didn't get a phone call, email, anything. Of course my roommate contacted me to say hey, I just joined LA Fitness and they put me under your account. I wasn't too happy with her for letting them do it without contacting me, but I'm more pissed at LA Fitness for not following proper procedure. This is UNETHICAL and just plain wrong. Not to mention an utter lack of professional courtesy to LA Fitness clients. When I called the location where this occurred and spoke to the GM, he basically admitted that they 'are supposed to, but don't always' verify add-ons with the primaryaccount holder. What the ***! Basically my monthly bill would've doubled, and if my roommate hadn't told me, I wouldn't have even known about it until the amount came out of my account! My roommate apologized and went back up to the gym to cancel this addition to my account and open her own membership, only then did I get an email from LA Fitness (confirming the cancellation). All this was going on while I was at work, so I on;y spoke briefly with the GM and when he put me on hold for 10 minutes I had to hang up and go into a meeting. I called back when I came home, and spoke with a lady in Customer Service who apologized profusely and told me that the primary accountholder is always supposed to present to sign an agreement whenever someone is added to theiraccount. So basically the GM I spoke with earlier is blatantly breaking rules to line his pockets with commission bonuses, and has no qualms about admitting it! I told the lady in customer service that since they didn't give a flip about adding someone to my account, I could care less about going through their ridiculous cancellation process and wanted my account cancelled immediately. She said they would do a 'courtesy cancellation' and that I won't be charged on my next billing date, which is the 15th. I am really curious to see if they try to charge me one last time for this month's dues...if they charge me one more penny I will raise *** until I get a refund! I chalk this up to a lesson learned - there are plenty of great gyms out there that don't make you sign your name in blood (sign a contract), are way cheaper and do not treat their customers this way. LA Fitness will never have my business again and I will tell others to STAY AWAY!
great scam
When I went to cancel my membership from LA Fitness, they asked if I wanted the other member on my account to also be removed. I stated there are no others on my account. They explained I have been build for 6 months for two members.
I would have caught this if it wasn't through an automated bill payment, and they separated the two bills by two weeks so I wouldn't see the payment go up. I should have noticed I was getting build every 2 weeks rather than once a month, so I am part to blame for their scam.
Now I can't seem to get them to quit billing me without closing down my bank account, which is what the bank recommends.
I have filed claims against them with my bank and with the Better Business Bureau. The question now is how we hold companies accountable when they intentionally scam people out of money, and illegally too. I lost 32.84 x 6 = $197.04 so far, but find it less expensive to let them have that than hire a lawyer. I think they know that, otherwise they would have add 10 people to my account.
Real good work LA Fitness, you have a great scam!
bad reputation
Management in LA Fitness at Sprayberry, Georgia use intimidation to control and get what they want. There is a tall black guy in sales (wish I knew his name) who intimidates with his looks. He is always staring at women and hanging around with nothing to do. His looks are offensive and harassing. I have been a member of LA for more than 9 years, and to be honest have not had the best of experiences there. However, I have always looked the other way, but not this time, enough is enough! He is not good for your facilities' reputation.
forced to hear racist rap music
The LA Fitness in Frisco, plays the exact same black rap genre every evening from 7-9. This is very inappropriate for anyone to hear, and it doesn't even come close to the demographics of the area.
I called to complain, and they said they have no control over it. Basically I was lectured about how the system plays different genres for different times.
I am a working class member. I can't change my workout hours to avoid abusive music that is geared toward one specific race. Heck, I don't mind if they play rap, but play a variety channel. That's only fair.
Racist much?
I'm glad the gym told you off.
personal training is s scam
I enrolled for a membership for LA Fitness Bellevue, WA a month ago and a training manager approached me and offered me a free training. After he finished the free training he offered me a paid training showing me one sheet of paper including information on different number of trainings per month with different pricing. When I asked him if I can try and...

To anyone who wants to sign up for a gym, do not go to la fitness! Here's why:
I was not a member of la fitness before this, so dan, the employee who signed me up, told me that I needed to open an account and pay the registration fee, first and last monthly fees, along with other fees that are associated with being a member, before I was able to sign up for training sessions. Disappointed in the money I had to pay up front, to only be a gym member to use a trainer for 2 months, I paid the $300 fee, even when I told him I wasn't going to use the gym itself, only to utilize the trainer. After the membership aspect was taken care of, he proceeded to tell me about training session packages. I specifically wanted to do 1 or 2 months worth of training at la fitness only. Dan was well aware of this because I mentioned this numerous times during our meeting together. He told me that it'll be no problem for me to sign up for a year's worth of training and told me after 2 months, to call and cancel my account. I specifically asked him if I will have any problems cancelling my account early and if I was responsible for a cancellation payment or any other type of payment after the 2 months was up, and he confidently told me "no, everything will be taken care of then."
After the 2 months of training was up, and a couple hundred dollars later, I cancelled my la fitness account using the online website without any complication, assuming that my training account was linked to my membership account and that too, will also be cancelled. I was then charged another $45 the following two months after my account was already cancelled. I called la fitness and the woman who helped me credited my account one time, only for $45, when it should have been $90. I explained I only wanted to be a member for 2 months and I already paid up front the first and last months fees and should not be charged for 2 additional months. I tried contacting the manager numerous times, leaving my name and number to correct this situation. I was told each time that he will call me back. When I called back a couple days later, the manager, tom, was finally available. He told me that I had to speak with another member of the team to get the other $45 credited back to my account, which that person is not there at the moment. I told him my frustration about this situation, but he just reiterated that I needed to speak with this person to get that credited back to my account.
I soon found out from la fitness that I was responsible to pay 50% of the remaining balance after I cancelled my training account. One important step dan never mentioned to me while I was signing up. The terms of the contract were not explained properly and I had been misled from a supposed "trained" employee. After I found this information out, I went back to speak with this employee, only to find out he does not work at la fitness anymore! I called the training manager and general manager of la fitness numerous times, again, without any call backs. Finally, when I did get a hold of them, the only thing they were able to tell me was to call corporate and explain my situation. This is the reason I was charged for another 2 months at $45 each time was due to the fact that my training account was not cancelled, even though my la fitness account was cancelled. I spoke with 2 or 3 different people from corporate who claimed they were managers and were not understanding about my situation. They were all very cold and accused me of not reading my contract thoroughly and asking questions to the la fitness employee. They were disrespectful and just mentioned over and over again that they were able to suspend my account for a month, then, I was to pay the 50% of the remaining balance the following month — almost $1000! That is the only thing they were able to do for me.
Never did any of them say "i'm sorry this happened to you," instead they pretty much verbally attacked me!
Why can't a person sign up with a trainer instead of becoming a member of the gym, if they do not plan to utilize the gym any other time?
Their employee made a significant error while opening up a new account and they have the responsibility as a large, well known company to fix the situation and see that a reasonable solution can be provided.
Both the gym and training managers at the springfield la fitness I went to, are incompetent and lazy and "pass the buck" to other employees when they are unaware of what to say or do. I was under the impression the la fitness employee who signed me up was trained and competent in his position and would offer the full facts before signing a potential customer. I would also assume the managers would help a customer and not have them call back on numerous occasions to get an answer to their question.
On top of this, I called corporate one morning, only to be on hold for 10 minutes, when a voice message comes on and says the office is closed until 9am pacific time. Why was I on hold for that long just to be told by an answering machine that the offices are closed?!
So, later on I called my local club to get the name and number of the district manager — thinking they would definitely have it. They had no email address or name they could give me!
This time, I called corporate back later (Business hours, now), to get the district manager's name and email address — only to find that no one had it! This is corporate that i'm calling and no one has the district manager's email address? After being transferred from person to person — someone was able to give me the email address and name — only when I emailed my complaint letter, did it bounce back. Again, I called corporate up again, and some gentleman heard my frustration and gave me the correct email address.
2 weeks went by and I have not heard anything yet from the district manager. I sent another email, again without a response. This is the district manager we're talking about here — shouldn't he be checking his emails frequently? So, while I was on vacation I had to call corporate yet again because I have been back and forth with a billion people for over a month about this situation, to complain to that "manager" about the situation and mentioned the district manager has not contacted me back. Surprisingly, after I brought up the word "lawyer" and "writing to magazines and newspapers" about my ordeal, the very next day I got a call and email from the district manager. He said he never got my 2 other emails... (Yeah right). He too was very cold and not understanding. The whole 45 minute long phone call, I was pretty much defending myself.
Overall, things went my way after I mentioned writing to local newspapers and magazines.
Worst place ever! Do not sign up with la fitness!

scam and service
July 25th, I spoke to Brandon Hith. I wanted to hire a trainer. Then, he told me that the payment was $4oo something for the season. And then the next morning, I canceled my trainer and the guy at the front desk told me to call Brandon Hith. I've been waiting and waiting for his call but he hasn't been calling me. And then I call him again, and he answered. I told him that I wanted to cancel my request to hire a trainer. And he told me that I already canceled and that I didn't have to go there. I said okay. My mom went to the bank today. She checked her money and she's wondering who has been withdrawing money from her account. The bank told her it was an L.A. Fitness Trainer. They took her money, $688.76. I called L.A. Fitness. I am worried about this and I canceled my account already. I talked to the manager, Adam Mendoza, and I explained what happened. That I hired a trainer on the 25th of July. The next day, I canceled. And Adam Mendoza is being rude to me on the phone regarding this issue and he hung up on me. He told me that he didn't know me. I called him back again, he told me that, he didn't know who I was. I went down there to the gym, to fix this problem. He was so angry with me. And I explained what happened when I purchased a trainer. He kept telling me that I can't cancel my agreement. But when I talked with Brandon Hith, he told me it's already been canceled on the day I called him, July 26th. I went back to the gym again today to make sure they weren't taking money from my mother's account and I spoke to Brandon Hith. He said he didn't remember me or the day I called when I canceled my trainer. I told him that I never recieved any paperworks from him. The paperworks they gave me today, August 2nd, has all the wrong information according to my account. And Brandon didn't give me any paperworks on the day I spoke to him, July 25th, at all.
This manager named Adam Mendoza, he doesn't any respect towards to customer. He's very rude, hanging up on the customer and he doesn't care. What kind of manager is he? He's not supposed be that way. He's the manager! I don't like this manager, never will.
This trainer named Brandon Hith is a liar, he didn't give me any paperworks, and is rude as well. I speak to him on the phone and he tells me that my request to hire a trainer is canceled but when I visit him in person, he doesn't remember any of it at all, he doesn't know who I am, and he doesn't recall ever talking about hiring a trainer in the first place.
Brandon and Adam have both been rude, rude, rude! I know I might sound repetitive but I can't accept the way they treated and the way things are right now. My complaint goes toward: 715 N Landing Way, Renton, WA, 98055.
Hope my complaint was successful for you. And please help me get back my mother's money to her account. If you have any questions or concerns please call me or email me.
I think this particular L.A. Fitness is not organized or truthful. No service, as well.
Woops, meant sleezy
I used to work for LA Fitness...I've never worked for such a sleepy and horrible company. I was shocked at all the horrible things I saw employees do there, and get away with! The managers there encourage this behavior and even do the same horrible things? I worked with Adam Mendoza too when I first got hired. Good luck! I hope he gets what he deserves!
i have the exactly same situation with you and i am waiting for my credit card company's response. Has your problem be solved?
==CROOKS AND THIEVES===
FORGED MY SIGNATURE! & STOLE $7, 500.+ USD!
Just found out today that ADAM MENDOZA from the LA Fitness in Renton, WA (Google his name and see what you find) now relocated to the LA Fitness in Covington had forged my signature on a $12, 722.81 + personal trainer membership. Apprently LA Fitness recently relocated him to the Covington, LA Fitness and promoted him to General Manager!
I absolutely will be pressing charges as I have opened a criminal investigation with the Police. I called my bank and stopped all payments to LA Fitness, called LA Fitness Corporate and they told me to take it up with my bank! I have 2 contract documents that clearly show my forged signature. I am considering suing for minimally 3x damages + attorney fees and pursuing pressing FULL CHARGES against the CROOKS that forged my signature and charged up my card so they could make their petty commission and get promoted then relocated out to the Covington, LA Fitness. People, there are 3 names that you need to be aware of from my personal experience.
1. Tab Birdsell - General Manager at the LA Fitness in Renton - (Total sleaze from my experience.. will jerk you around if given the chance).
2. Sean Smith - Operation Manager at the LA Finess in Renton - (When you call to pause your account, he will reactivate it without your authorization and run up your card! Beware of this crook!)
3. Adam Mendoza - Marketing Manager now promoted to General Manager at the LA Fitness in Covington - (This is the crook who forged my signature for a contract for $12, 722.81!)
People, please learn from my lesson and DO NOT do business with LA Fitness, period. The company obviously has no consideration for whom they hire or for their customers financial security. If your currently a customer, you CAN NOT afford to take the chance that LA Fitness will put a crook in charge of your account or relocate a crook who will forge your signature for a $12, 000.+ "Personal Trainer membership" and run up your card! Espeically in todays economy, not worth the head aces, stress or run around.
If this matter doesnt get resolved by LA Fitness corporate, I will be going on a mini campaign against LA Fitness by letting people know the experience I've had. Oh.. I have all the documentation needed if anyone would like to see for themselves what the above mentioned crooks have done. PEOPLE PLEASE BEWARE!
treats their staff like dirt
LA Fitness likes to work their staff more than 8 hrs a day and one day off a week, but LA Fitness does NOT pay overtime! They get away with treating their employees like dirt, and they do not follow labor laws, no breaks, no lunches...just work 14 hours shifts and then don't get paid for it! WOW! If anyone is thinking of joining a third world gym go ahead! Only the big shots make their big bucks...the employees who work the gyms are treated like dirt! LA fitness is a nest of salesmen DO NOT GO THERE, unless you want to be harrassed!
Which LA Fitness do you work at?
run around when canceling. inadequate equipment.
For at least 6 months to the last year, I have complained to management that there is never enough 10-12 pound handweights available. Generally there is one set of 10's and one set of 12's and they are being used. I have more weights at home than the gym has. So yhis said, I decided to cancel. This was a very big hassle. I was told I needed to mail a certified letter in order to not be charged monthly fees. they were not able to cancel over the phone or would not allow me to fax anything. Finally after multiple threats and informing them that they could not legally continue to charge my account, they relented and did cancel over the phone. Very bad business practice and unprofessional behavior.
cancellation policy
Me and my family joined the club here in Morrow GA sometime towards the end of last year. After 3 or so months we decided to cancel for personal reasons. I went to the club I signed up with to cancel and was told that it could not be done there but needed to fill out forms for each of us and mail it to a given address. I did as asked, placed all 3 forms for each of my family in the same envelope and mailed them.
You would think they would cancel all of us. But come to look at my bank statements 6 months, they are still charging for one membership. I called the gym to find out why this was continuing and was told that most likely they never received one of the cancellation. Remember all cancellations were in the same envelope. I was however told that this would be taken care of and I would not be charged any more. Come to look at my bank statement this month, I find more charges.
So here we go again. ..., I wander how many people have the same problem.
I have been a member of LA Fitness (Glendale, Indianapolis) for the past couple years. Due to hard economic times I decided to cancel my monthly membership. My monthly membership of $34.99 was being withdrawaled directly from my personal checking account each month. To cancel a membership you have to visit their website, download and print a cancellation form, and mail it to their offices in Irvine, California. I followed this procedure 3 months ago. To my surprise I found out that I was still being charged to this very day. When I called the local LA fitness they asked if I had received an email notification after I sent the letter. I said I had not. They said there was nothing they could do to reimburse me for the months I never attended the gym. They did suggest to mail in the same cancellation form but send it "certified mail".
That afternoon a went to the post office to send my cancellation form "certified mail". As I did this, the woman working the desk mentioned that I was probably the 8th person to send a cancellation letter to LA Fitness "certified mail" today! I was shocked to find this out. It seems to me that LA Fitness may be deliberately not canceling accounts and continuing to take former members money. Could this many cancellation letters really get lost in the mail? I think not.
This is a complete rip off!
Their cancellation policy is awful. You must print out a form but in order to print out a form, you must have your checking account number. It will not accept your membership I.D. It is all a ploy to postpone cancelling. The staff are not friendly and keep you holding when calling for information regarding cancelling your membership. I threatened them with the Better Business Bureau but they didn't seem to care.
I will never join that gym again. The place is dirty. The members are pigs and the showers are a disgrace.
On Saturday January 19th we went to talk about getting membership at the la fitness off of hwy 59 in Sugarland. Upon arrival we had to wait to talk to somebody and when we did the first thing he discussed was money. $159 intimation and $29.99 a person. (Me & my fiancé) so after signing an agreement paying first & last months dues and initiation fee we then talked to a personal trainer because that was what we were joining the gym for. They told us 2 sessions a week would be $195 and we told him we couldn't offered that. So we decided not to get membership but before we could leave they informed us our payment had been processed and we would have to call Monday and talk to a manger and get a refund. Well the refund came on Friday $66. Where is the rest of it? We. Didn't workout, we didn't even get to see the facility. We didn't do a free training session. They are so money hungry they took our money as soon as they could. I work part time and go to school full time on top of trying to plan & save for a wedding. So taking $225 from us is not very considerate nor is it good for business
L.A. Fitness is a scam - one thing you could do if they're continually withdrawing from your checking or bank account is to change that account and then L.A. Fitness has nothing to withdraw electronically from. Why should you log in and create an account online when you would like to cancel membership? It's highway robbery and illegal. L.A. Fitness Gym is a business with no corporate headquarters?
The class action settlement referred to above applies only to California residents who were members of California gyms. A new national class action has been filed concerning LA Fitness' cancellation practices. Here's information concerning that case:
The law firm of Berger & Montague, P.C., located in Philadelphia PA, is currently prosecuting a class action suit against L.A. Fitness International LLC in federal court. The suit alleges that L.A. Fitness’ cancellation procedures for its monthly membership agreements are unfair and deceptive because members are charged additional monthly dues even after they have attempted to cancel their memberships. L.A. Fitness denies these allegations. We are currently gathering facts in support of these claims. If you have any information concerning L.A. Fitness’ cancellation procedures or practices, please contact Kim Walker toll free at [protected] or [protected], or by e-mail: info@bm.net. I am about to cancel my membership and read all of these complaints and got very nervous. But in my research I came across this:

There is a class action lawsuit against LA Fitness. If you have been wronged by LA Fitness, this will help you get your money back.
I agree, LA Fitness does make you feel trapped with their cancellation policy. Be warned about inviting a guest too. Harassment to join is on the agenda, even before your guest has a chance to enjoy the atmosphere. My guest was not able to enjoy his visit, why would he of joined? He had been considering it before we walked in.
In February 2009, our daughter (just turned 18 and a few days) signed a personal training contract with the LA Fitness located on Southport Rd in Indianapolis. Knowing that she would be going off to college, she wanted to know if she would be able to cancel the contract when she left for school. The person signing her up called Buddy (now a VP - I think I know why), who informed them that our daughter could do that if she sent a written request (never said anything about certified mail) along with documentation showing a new address. So far so good other than the fact that they are taking $120/month from a girl still in high school (without her parent's knowledge) on top of her monthly dues. FYI these charges equalled the sum of about 20 hours of work at her after school jobs. Now tell me, would a respectable organization sign a high schooler up for such a program?!
In June, our daughter submitted a letter to the local club as she had been instructed along with her college acceptance letter and her new address. She closed her letter by asking the club to contact her if something more was required of her. Over the next two months, she was in contact with one of the trainers who told her he "was handling it". Supposedly, he sent the letter to Buddy and called him a couple of times. Evidently, our daughter did not send it via certified mail or in an official format to "Corporate". NOBODY HAD THE DECENCY to inform her that anything else was required. Why should they? LA Fitness was getting more money.
We, mistakenly, were thinking everything was taken care of and that somebody was actually trying to get a refund for the month of August. At least that was our thinking until we saw new charges for $34.99 and $120 hit her bank account causing it to go negative.
My wife and I went in to find out what was going on and to get a refund (lol). While there, somebody called Buddy, who either denied or forgot the phone conversation. We ended up settling for a buydown of an additional $180 which the club felt was generous.
We were told that an email would be sent that confirmed the cancellation. When no email came, I became more suspicious. Since no email arrived, I went back to the club to have them sign papers acknowledging that no further charges would be incurred. To their credit, they did sign these.
More than one person that worked for LA Fitness acknowledged that they knew our daughter was leaving for school and that she had been working to get this taken care of in the manner in which she had been instructed. When asked why they did not call her if they knew she needed to do something else, they said it was "corporate policy". When I made the comment that it was blatantly obvious that this cumbersome (idiotic) cancellation policy is designed to get a few extra months of payments out of people, they kind of shrugged and shook their heads "yes".
As a side note, another woman came in to cancel her agreement and they told her that she woould have to send a letter by certified mail. They commented that it was no big deal, "only 51cents". SHE WAS RIGHT THERE! HOW IDIOTIC!
WHAT A RACKET?! I will do everything I can to spread the word of this callousness and injustice.
dirty restrooms
For the last couple of months the restrooms at LA Fitness in Chino are unsanitary and unhealthy. The trash cans are full in the stalls and outside. The trash cans in the stalls are overflowing with female used products. The toilets are dirty. There are dirty paper towels all over the floor. Hair inside the sink. The whole locker room is completely disgusting. So they cut down the hours of the cleaning people... they don't know how to spend their money... they hire high tech DJs to play loud music while everyone that is working out has their IPOD full blast so they can't hear the DJs music.. makes no sense. Time to change to 24 Hour Fitness down the street.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
