LabCorp wait/no service/improper practice

I made an appointment on the website for May 17th, 2013 at 8am at Labcorp's West Bay Largo, Florida location. I arrived and was told to sign in and have a seat. After waiting nearly an hour I went back up and was told I was sorry that they skipped me and were taking other people that didn't even have appointments but what is worse is that they said they couldn't help me, that I needed a doctor's order. I am pretty sure I have elected to to have a routine blood screening (To make sure I did not have any STDs or anything I don't know about) at Labcorp in the past. I was able to make the appointment myself online and nothing stopped me from doing so and I really think I should have been asked my purpose for being at Labcorp before being left to sit there for an hour. When a person walks in, especially with an appointment, their paperwork should be taken right then. I sat there for an hour, I took off work, and fasted all for nothing. I hope you will use this info to change their practices. I am very unhappy.

LabCorp labcorp sales rep

Just started using Labcorp for in-house labs for our patients-what a mistake! In less than a month, issues with the Labcorp tech either showing up late or not at all. When I had a "heart-to-heart" with our Labcorp Rep this morning, letting her know of my unhappiness, she ended the call telling me to "go to hell". No, I am not kidding! Unbelievable! If Labcorp ever tries to get into your office-run for your life!

Just want to complaint about the specimen collection technician at Lab Corp Fremont in CA. The guy is really rude. Not sure he has racial discrimination. He is the rudest person I have ever seen in healthcare industry. He does not explain it to you well and he talked to me more like professor talking to student. He handed me the pen to sign and grabbed it...

LabCorp receptionist

The little worker Bessie Bush was, very kind to all the white people who she assisted but me I was a whole different story, first of all I had an appt. at 2:00 pm, I was skipped passed until 2:45pm with not one complaint from me, then when she finally decided to get to me she just said Lewis, Lewis James and the gentleman before me stood up and walked in, therefore I sat back down ans Bessie comes back up and says Lewis again, I said I'm the orther Lewis but that's not my first name, her response was maybe I couldn't pronounce it, are you coming back or not, at that point I beyond pissed and she continually made rude comments, after I finished I told the black nappy head hefer to go to hell, I will never step foot back into that office if LabCorp had some sense they would fire her ignorant ###. The bad thing is I'm black myself.. Ignoranant people should never work in customer service positions.

LabCorp lack of company doing their job

My family has two insurances. Every time we go to get lab work we get a bill from lab corp. We call them they say its not their job to bill secondary insurance. But, I spoke to a supervisor and complained about this, and she said that there are four screens to billing, and the person inputting info does not do what they are required to do. They, Lab Corp, has even sent my daughters bill to collections. I asked the supervisor to send me a zero balance after she check with secondary insurance, she said some bills were submitted in an untimely manner, leaving labcorp to eat the bill. The supervisor also told me that she would contact the collections folks, and they would send me a zero bill. I am still waiting on this information. I recently contacted the CEO, CAO, And the VP of labcorp, no response yet. My complaint is if they do their job correctly initially, this problem would not exist. They want my wife to contact our secondary insurance and get an eob (explanation of benefits) for them. This is ridiculous. All I ask if they do their job, and these types of problems would not exist. Ive had problem for over a year now, enough is enough.

LabCorp horrible service

Th new company I was hired by requires a pre-employment drug screening, and contracts with LabCorp to undertake that screening. I found the number of the local LabCorp office online as well as the address. I called the number to schedule an appointment, but was promptly put through to a recorded message. I attempted to get through to an actual person multiple times to schedule an appointment and to get further directions to the business, but could not get past the automated system. The recording stated that pre-emploment drug screening was conducted between 9 A.M. and 4. P.M. and could be done on a walk-in basis. So, I decided to drive down to the location without an appointment since they were not required. I spent 20 minutes searching for the location, as neither the address nor the online map clearly showed the location, and as I stated, I could not get past the automated system to get clear directions from a person. Finally, I found LabCorp on the back side of a strip mall. i arrived at LabCorp at 2:19 P.M. on a Thursday afternoon, during the regular hours of business. But, when I walked in, I was rudely ordered to sign in at the register, and only after doing so was I told that the woman who conducts the drug screening was out of the office and wouldn't be back until after 3 P.M . So, after enduring a complete lack of service from the beginning, after searching for the location for 20 minutes, after being rudely treated by the technician, I was still unable to take the drug screening. I am going to recommend that my company search for another contractor to do business with in the future.

I have been trying to contact billing for days but when you call a recorder gives you three options, one of them is CS but no one never answers it, I've been trying for three days now. Actually, the recorder will say call on Wednesday or Thursdays that is a better day, WHAT? this is terrible service. So, we are stuck to do business with this company if our insurance requires it what crooked system this is. We are their business; and pay checks and they don't care if they have return business or not. I will make my provider aware of the CS I have been getting. I will go to another lab eve if I need to pay addition fees. I keep receiving bills and I already paid for the service, but you can't reach anyone! I waste my entire day calling these people.

I will report to BBB and where ever else I can make a difference.

LabCorp Credit card charge required for guaranteed services

I was astonished when the receptionist asked me for my credit card to charge the full cost of the laboratory testing. When I asked why, I was told it was LabCorp policy. Eventually, I was shown a copy of their policy. The policy, "Notice of LabCorp's Credit Card Authorization Program, " acknowledges "that for some insurance plans there is no additional patient responsibility such as co-payments, coinsurance or deductibles for laboratory testing covered by the insurance plan." The technician came in and said I had the choice of using or not using LabCorp if I didn't like it.
I looked up my benefits. According to 2012 Health Plan, "This program gives you and your dependents the option of receiving 100% covered outpatient laboratory testing if your doctor sends your lab work to LabCorp for processing. This is an optional program."
I asked what protections LabCorp uses for my credit card information and what assurance did I have the credit card would not actually be charged, or if it was charged, how it would be removed. After all, my health plan ensures there are NO patient charges if we use LabCorp. The lab technician (no name tag) indicated the Notice of LabCorp's Credit Card Authorization Program again. The statement says "LabCorp secures credit card data and protects it with LabCorp's network. LabCorp meets payment card industry standard."
Is there an industry standard for guaranteeing a charge when there is already a party committed to paying 100% of that charge?
Who makes sure the authorization for payment will be removed after the Health Plan - LabCorp transaction is completed?
How long do I carry the charge on my bill?
Why should my credit card be held hostage if there is a dispute between my Health Plan and LabCorp?
I don't have any answers to those questions. When I contacted my health plan, the representative said I was the first to complain. She said the credit charge was contrary to the contract between the health plan and LabCorp and thinks it is an isolated incident. I doubt that.

Same thing happened to me today. My son has a private insurance as his primary insurance and Medicaid as his secondary. The LabCorp person I spoke at the lab informed me that LabCorp would not do my son's fasting blood test UNLESS I provided her with a credit card for them to "keep on file." I told her that was never required before and I didn't see why all of a sudden it was being required when the labs would be covered by my son's insurances. She told me this is LabCorp policy. I told her that didn't sound right and I was going to call my insurance company. She told me I could do that but they wouldn't draw my son's blood. The person I spoke to from calling son's Medicaid card told me the lab is not legally allowed to do that (require me to provide them with my credit card in order for my son to receive laboratory services.). Legal or not, that is what LabCorp did and apparently has been doing for close to a decade (from what I found when I did an internet search about this).

I had the same problem last time I used LabCorp. Argued for 5 minutes with rude pushy staffer at the window who claimed providing a credit card was required - even though I have insurance and LabCorp is in-network. She threatened to cancel my lab order if I didn't give her a credit card. At that point I had been waiting for almost 40 minutes and I needed the lab work so I gave it to them while protesting the entire time.

Later, I called up LabCorp corporate headquarters and was told that a credit card is NOT required if you have insurance and that they can't refuse you service for not providing one. I reported this to my insurance company, and filed an internal complaint with labCorp about this.

LabCorp did tell me that they strongly encourage their staff to get people's credit cards, but that they don't allow them to lie or say it is required. My suspicion is that being able to get people's credit card is a factor in employee evaluations, which makes the employees so aggressive and willing to lie to get them. None of that is my problem though. I made them cancel the pre-authorization I signed and told them that they need to educate their staff that lying is not okay.

If you get a staff lying to you and saying it is required even if you have insurance, tell them to hold on a second while you call their corporate headquarters to verify that this is true and watch them back peddle and crap their pants.

Definitely not the first to complain but I was gave a very similar run around and also told we were the first ones to ever have a problem with it! I went to my local labcorp to receive lab work via my physician and was told upon arrival I needed to give a credit card capture in order to receive services. I have private health insurance, and an HSA that covers my labs. I however needed the labs done so I gave the woman my credit card information after she assured me if I called the billing department that day and told them I preferred a paper bill they wouldn't charge my card. I called as soon as I got home and a woman in the billing department informed me that I shouldn't have given a credit card capture and that there was nothing she could do for me until I received a bill but my card would not be charged until i received my bill and to call back when my bill came in the mail which would probably be a week. I waited a week and still no bill arrived, on Wednesday June 15th my bank informed me my account was overdrawn. Labcorp had filled charges on my account, after I was told twice they wouldn't and I still hadn't received a bill. I immediately called and after speaking to several rude representatives I discovered my insurance company had already paid the bills in full and I owed nothing. This is not the first time this has happened and exactly why I do not like giving out my bank account information but not getting the labs drawn wasnt an option. After doing some research I've seen I am not the only person this horrible company has done this to. Repeatedly Ive seen people, like me, who have been told they HAVE to give a card capture to receive services only to turn around and have their insurance pay labcorp and their cards be charged anyway. Labcorp has created a monopoly in our area and going to another lab isn't an option or I would already be doing that.

@Darkswan - I'm not sure I follow you on your lengthy dissertation. I'll make my comment short to offset yours.

Question: Why did you NOT just simply decline the credit card option since you were aware up front that it is NOT required. Did you learn this after the fact or did you know this at the time of service.

No service provider including Labcorp can FORCE YOU to provide them a credit card. The only exception is that if you are uninsured and your services must be paid for by cash, check, or credit card.

So again, WHY did you not simply DECLINE the Credit Card Option at Labcorp since it is NOT required. If you were told it was required then you should of asked to speak with a supervisor.

Next time if you go to any Labcorp again and are asked for a Credit Card, simply say the words "I DECLINE", simple as that. No need to get into any discussions with anyone about this, period.

Not only this, the Credit Card option at Labcorp does NOT apply to all insurances, only PPOs.

I hope this helps.

Because the LabCorp staff LIES and tell people it is required and threatens to refuse to do the lab order if you don't give it.

LabCorp medical testing

I had health insurance with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon).

In network outpatient lab work was provided by Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (Labcorp).

Due to the limitations of the policy, there was a limit of $500.00 per year for this benefit.

During October 2010, I visited my primary doctor, blood was drawn and sent to Labcorp. Horizon was billed for four (4) tests - two (2) were paid in full, one was paid partially and the last was not paid. The Explanation of Benefits sent to me did not show the remaining balance for out patient testing.

For the partially paid test, Horizon was billed at $104.00, allowed amount $20.21, paid $1.85. The last test was billed at $66.00, allowed amount $11.68, not paid.

When this first started, I offered to pay the unpaid contract amounts of $30.04 - not accepted.

I see no reason why I should pay more than five times the contract amount for a test. Also, I have not worked since January 2008 and can't afford to pay $66.00.

If you have Horizon for health insurance or any other health insurance that uses Labcorp as the exclusive out patient testing service, then you should look for new insurance or if employer provided ask for new insurance.

If enough of us stop using Labcorp and the insurance companies that cater to this company we could put them out of business.

LabCorp rude staff

I arrived in FL after traveling 1, 500 to help my 78-year old mom with doctor's visits. Arrived at the Brooksville, FL LabCorp facility and waited for just over one hour for routine bloodwork. After the person next to us was called to have her blood drawn (she told us that she did not have an appointment and arrived approximately 20 minutes after we did), I approached the front desk and asked "How much longer will it be before you take my Mom" since she needed to take her medications asap. The person at the front desk, Lisa Marsh, responded "she'll be taken in when I call her, this isn't a fast food drive through." How rude. I immediately asked for her name and the name of her supervisor. She refused to give me the name and contact number of her supervisor. She proceeded to be increasingly rude - I needed to find out how much longer it would be before my elderly mother was able to take her medications and her 2nd response was "this isn't a fast food drive through, sit back down or leave.." She then proceeded to ignore me and put my Mother's paperwork at the bottom of a pile of papers to be processed/. At that point, she said that "you will now be called after everyone in the waiting room has been called - you will get called when I decide you will" and, at that point, proceeded to make a phone call?. I cannot remember someone so rude - she should not be dealing with the public in any fashion.. We decided to leave and take the test elsewhere - on the way out, she said "ha, I was going to take you next, now you are leaving:." I had to request the paperwork with the script on it four times before she would even return it so we could leave, . All for a routine blood test; this is inexcusable'. "Just shut up and sit down."

LabCorp terminated and screwed for getting hurt

My wife was hurt while working at LabCorp as an employee. After paying for the immediate medical bills, but refusing to pay the long term disability payments, they terminated her for being disabled and unable to perform her job there.

The settlement for the Worker's Compensation claim includes a dismissal with prejudice to preclude any further legal action, a statement that my wife "voluntarily resigns from and agrees not to seek reemployment" with LabCorp, and a statement prohibiting discussion of the case or settlement. That's why this is being posted prior to enforcement. This is LabCorp's way of "preventing" bad publicity. By the way, the settlement is about 1/4 of a year's wages, and she has a number of years to go before retirement. How's that for caring for your employees?

LabCorp injury/fraudulent billing

Labcorp previously injured my arm during a sample draw so I then had a friend(RN) go with me to draw my sample.

Later recieved a bill from Labcorp for 21.00 for a Veinapuncture they did not
perform.

They continue to bill me for the balance (including the fraudulent veinipuncture)
despite my contacting them 3 (!) times.

PLUS, my wife went to ER with severe back pain and submitted
a urine sample which the DR told us was full of infection.

Labcorp said the sample was clean and without infecion. So? whose
urine sample did I pay for? Certainly NOT my wifes, as stated by the DR.

BOTTOM LINE: I feel LabCorp is the MOST Unprofessional, money
driven business on the planet. Who does not care about the services
or fraudulent billing they IMPOSE upon people while
hiding behind their sister corporation- Labcorp collections. Thus,
holding their clients hostage via credit ratings.

Beware !

LabCorp lack of consideration for experience

I have applied online for jobs at labcorp at least three times and each time was given what's called a gallup test which consists of a bunch of *** asenine questions. Nomatter how you answer them you will never be qualified for the job you are applying for. In each incident I answered differently and was told I wasn't qualified because of my answers. If that's not *** and frustrating I don't know what is. Whatever happened to being hired on experience? And of course if you email them for a "study guide" you will get no response cause it's an automated reply telling that you failed. That is surely one thing that can be considered the epitome of stupidity.

LabCorp unproffesional

Recently had to start going to get regular blood testing for INR. Have to use Labcorp due to my insurance plan coverage. Found the waiting room at the location I visited to be withing earshot of the check in desk with no privacy for the patient. Reception was somewhat unproffessional and unfriendly, tech's so far haven't been very good at blood draws, have to dig around in your arm until they can finally hit blood. I've been handed other patients papers asking to verify my name, which of course is wrong since it's someone elses papers and a different test. Had on set of results sent to some other medical center, not my doctors office, and found out two days later when that office called to find out who I was and why they had my INR results. Had to contact my docs office and get them to contact Labcorp for results. Next visit was met somewhat rudely by reception when I mentioned about where the results should be sent to and had to discuss the problem with the defensive receptionist in front of the waiting patients in the waiting area. Still haven't got the INR results after the last test, not sure whare they went? Wonder how many peoples health has been affected by these people, looks like it's not isolated to just a small area, but a company wide problem.

LabCorp rude did not deliver results on time

Had to do a drug test twice, they would not write down the medication I was on and treated me like a criminal, not like someone trying to get a job. Very rude. Had to test twice because I was told my first test was inconclusive. Had the same treatment at the second lab. Test results are supposed to be turned around in 72 hours, and mine got lost in the shuffle. Caused me to loose my chance at a really good job by delaying my start date by three weeks. I have lost time money and patience with these incredible rude ### in the office. I even offered to pay to go to a different company and pay to take my own test because the people are so incompetent. Hey I know gathering urine is not a great job, but they have a job and now I don't. I see a lawsuit for damages and lost back pay soon to follow.

LabCorp Don't care about its people

As a long time regular at a labcorp in crestview hills, kentucky, I am upset of the departure of the tech who had been there for about a year and a half. She was 4 months pregnant when they got rid of her, I have seen people throw things at her, call her some of the most vulgar things, I have seen people try to bully her at closing to do their labs or drug screens, also heard stories of incidents where a few people have put their hands on her. For months she begged her supervisor to get her out of that location, and she even went to counseling for job stress, but her supervisor did nothing. I know this because we have become close over the past year and a half, they left her to work by herself knowing she was going through severe morning sickness. Not once did I ever hear about her supervisor coming down to look into these issues, instead, she left her down there basically to suck it up and deal. She is not the only tech to have put up with these issues in this service center, the 2 prior to her put up with the same kind of abuse.. what kind of company lets their employees be constanty abused like this... here is one even better they have still not sent her anything on cobra and they let her go on 9/21 and terminated her health coverage on 9/25... for god's sake the girl is pregnant, how does a company leave their people like that... I still talk to her and wish her the best, she can do better than a company that refuses to deal with a lazy, harrassingsupervisor he does nothing but obviously hides in her office doing only god knows what...

if you are smart take your business elsewhere.

LabCorp paid already and they sent to collections

My insurance did not cover a basic gyn exam and testings due to an error on their part (united healthcare.) I called many times and it was fixed several times. United assured me it was fixed and that the bills would be paid within 90 days. Six months later I recieve collection notices from Labcorps and after aguing with them to no avail, settle with them for $290, which I pay with a credit card. The lady on the phone tells me they will NEVER BOTHER ME AGAIN, it is completely fixed. (this was July 2009). Today, October 23, 2010, my parents recieve a call on their answering machine that a collections company is trying to reach me. WHAT? I check the website they leave, and LABCORP has turned me over to collections for $59. It is Staurday evening and I can't find out any further information until tomorrow. I will be calling them in the morning to get any info from them I can, not that it will do any good. I am Furious with Labcorp and the various agencies for messing up my credit. I am going to take this to the BBB and every other complaint agency I can find.

LabCorp medical lab testing

Over 17 years I have been having what every single Doctor I have seen describes as "Irritable Bowel Syndrome." Which to me means, they just don't know. Now the two things that seem to be common threads over the last seventeen years is not only what I believe to be living inside of me and slowly killing me, but also LAB CORP. After having four different Health Insurance plans, from Blue Cross Blue Shield, to Aetna, to Care First, to now Cigna, one would come to believe that surely I would have received good care by now. Not so. EVERY YEAR NOW it would seem, I have sent stool samples to be examined for parasites, and every time the tests come back negative. Now I just learned that it is the Insurance company that dictates which lab is to be used, not the Doctor. And in every instance, all four Insurance companies have dictated that LAB CORP be used.

So, just recently, I had the good luck of capturing the little buggers myself. I will spare you the details, but let's just say I have "live" 1/2 inch naked to the eye samples. Now, my Doctor sent them to Lab Corp, surely I would finally get treatment and relief, but No. THE TEST WAS NEGATIVE. I asked the doctor, "surely they could see them with the naked eye?" Surely they read your (Doctor's) note that said 'live samples, please identify.' But it was not to be. My doctor said they must have applied standard procedures. I said, "What is that? 'Flush all stool samples down toilet and report as negative!'" ( Save money by disposing of the nastiness and just report negative.) or even worse ( Save money for Lab Corp and collude with the Insurance Company so they won't have to pay for treatment.)

I have now come to believe that America has the best Health Care money can buy, you just have to have billions of dollars. The rest of us blokes who are not in the 99th percentile are screwed.

Yuck! If it is a parasite can't your doctor give you a deworming medication? You probably do have IBS. Had your doctor done a colonoscopy? If not, than get that done.

LabCorp unacceptable wait, understaffed

I was sent to the Boerne TX Labcorp July 6, 2010 after a doctor visit to obtain sampling supplies for a stool test. Upon arrival there was one other person at the reception window. The attendant finished collecting her information and admitted her into the testing area. I stood up but the attendant was quick to inform me he wouldn't be able to assist me until he had finished with the young lady. This must have taken about 20 minutes, during which another client joined me in the waiting area.

When I got my turn at the reception window the attendant entered my information into the computer, apologizing several times that the computer was unusually slow to respond. I was then admitted to the back area where the attendant gave me the collection kit and instructed me in its use.

I returned the next morning with the samples, expecting to be able to quickly drop them off and be on my way. Instead, I found there were three clients in front of me and I would have to wait my turn. All of the customers ahead of me had multiple issues requiring the attendant (the same man from the first day) to make lengthy phone calls to obtain or confirm information. This, together with the time required to take blood samples, meant that I waited well over an hour before being allowed to turn in my samples.

Although the attendant had taken all of my information the previous day, he said I was "not in the system" and he had to collect and enter all of the data a second time. I was surprised when I was asked for a credit card, since my insurance was expected to cover the test. I was informed that it was a LabCorp requirement (there was a notice taped to the reception desk window) and anything the insurance didn't cover would be charged to my card. While I found this policy offensive there didn't seem to be any alternative.

Having only one person to handle logging information, confirming insurance and doctor's orders and taking blood samples results in a very inefficient and frustrating experience. I'm concerned that a mistake in sample identification could easily be made in such an environment. To his credit, the attendant was polite and professional in this difficult position.

LabCorp arm injury

I went to have my blood drawn on Thursday 10 June 2010. This was for a complete blood/lipid panel ordered by my family physician. The girl at the LabCorp office was very polite, service was expedient, the office was new so it was very clean. She drew my blood, gave me a bandaid and I was on my way. By the time I got home, there was a hugh knot in my arm. After one day, I had a large bruise that continued to spread for days afterward. The attached photos were taken two/three days after the appointment. Do I really OWE this company for such a terrible experience? It is summertime and I don't want to wear short sleeves, so I have to bandage it with an ace wrap just to cover it up. Thank you for your time.
