Maytag — Maytag Washer MVWB865GW0 Serial # C915 71714
Purchased washer on 2/17/2018 along with matching gas dryer. It was delivered and installed on 5/4/2019.
Started having problems in November 2020. Then in February 2021, the left side on the bottom of the lid where the gray plastic meets with metal to help close it broke. I continued to break off. It is made of plastic. It finally broke off so bad that the lid had to be manually held in order to use the washer. The lid would not lock.
Contacted a local repair service to be told it would cost $400 plus their $100 fee. I have discovered numerous customers are having this problem and have had for the last five years. I contacted Maytag and they said because there is no recall they would not pay for it.
A 21 month old Maytag Bravo top load washer shouldn't be breaking its parts at all this early.
This is a manufacturing problem. From various websites it appears a lot of complaints have been issued for this same exact problem. The lid is breaking off at the lower left bottom side.
Please advise how are you going to resolve/compensate me for this issue.

Your Maytag representative contacted me about the hinge breaking on this washing machine. That was over a month ago. Your authorized dealer/repair company has been trying to order the needed parts to replace the Maytag top load lid and hinges. There have now been three ETA's given to them and they still don't have the part(s). Fortunately my engineering husband and I figured out how to continue using the machine to wash clothes -------------- Gorilla Glue! It might not be pretty, but it is a temporary fix because it is looking more and more like the Maytag and Whirlpool parts are coming from China or somewhere in the great beyond.
The same plastic hinge on this washer has broken again. I need a Maytag washing machine repair representative to replace the hinge again. The latch will not lock and engage when the lid is closed, thus the washing machine will not operate. Please contact me a.s.a.p. I will be using the same Maytag authorized repair service, which is a dealer as well. Thank you.

We also have a Maytag Bravos XL and are on our second lid and it is now cracking as well. Anyone had luck in getting resolution on this. We have paid out of pocket for this lid that is junk like the original one.
I've got the same problem with my maytag Model number MVWB765FW3. Lid hinge is plastic that has broken. It's 3 yrs old and the warranty went out 3 weeks ago and they will not fix. Cost will be close to $400. No one cares about quality. They make cheap products to make more money. if would be different if they would stand by their products. With all of the same complaint with these lids Maytag should have covered these.
I have the same problem. In the same corner. Washer is just over 3 years old. The Maytag replacement part is currently listed on their site for $411. I can buy a new washer from Best Buy for $850 right now. That's ridiculous.
I have exactly the same problem. We are on our second lid with the exact same materials and design flaws. The strength of the spring is simply too strong for the structural integrity of the brittle plastic.
It is outrageous that Maytag is not standing by their products. Presumably the legendary Maytag Repair man is now running around like a one armed paper hanger because of the atrocious quality.
I visited Home Depot to look at new Maytags and ALL of their washing machines now have metal kids. Gee, I wonder why?!?! Is there a metal replacement lid for our machines? Providing these free might start to rebuild goodwill and reputation.
My washing machine is perfectly fine other than this pathetic design flaw and it makes absolutely no ecological sense to fill landfills with otherwise perfectly functional machines. MAN UP MAYTAG AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PATHETIC DESIGN.
What solution can you propose me which doesn’t involve me paying twice for the same machine, or do you suggest I hire an attorney to commence a Class Action? Do let me know. There are many of us who are very tired of this type of corporate irresponsibility and we can make this VERY EXPENSIVE for you. Make us happy!
Same problem with mine. Randomly broke and I have to push it to lock.
