I have a quiet series 300 also, I may as well wash all the dishes by hand because if I put them in the dishwasher with ANY food on them, it will still be there when it's done "washing" them and I'll have to do it anyway. That's even with EVERY feature turned on despite that it takes forever to NOT clean the dishes. I've had it for a year, it's the WORST dishwasher I have EVER used. The door latch stopped working about a week after the warranty was up so now we have to pry it out with a knife to get it to latch so it will NOT wash the dishes. Basically it's a $400+ dollar sanitizer and a waste of water and electricity. I will never buy another Maytag appliance. Any future purchases will be Kenmore.

I have this same dishwasher. I doesn't clean any cups in the upper rack. Have to wash 2-3 times to get clean. And these are just cups. I don't know where all the crud is coming from. One of the arms on the upper rack broke so I can't fit cups in properly. Sometimes I can't get the dishwasher to close, something to do with the cleaning arms not fitting back in properly?. Had problems a while back with awful grinding, thankfully that went away on it's own. Kinda sad to have to replace a dishwasher less than 2 years old.
Who's filing the class action lawsuit?

I see this is an old post, but I, too, have had the control panel go out intermittently and lose function. Let's get together and sue these guys.

Wow. I thought I had bad luck. Same issues here with 300 series. Certainly a different company than past products. I know all these companies produce each other's products and jockey name badges like car manufacturers but gimme a break! I bought the Home Depot deal with the "super rebate" package 2 and half years ago (microwave, range, fridge and dishwasher).

ALL but one of the four products have had issues in this order: 1. Range is trash. No heat insulation. Nearly set cabinetry on fire, melted drawer edges. Permanent brown staining on door vent despite proper cleaning. Door has never fit properly. Red indicator lights flicker at will. 2. Fridge makes an INORDINATE amount of noise 24/7 from day one. Cosmetic bottom grill will not stay on. Door handles will not stay tight. 3. Dishwasher doesn't wash thoroughly regardless of detergent or settings. Washer was MISSING one of two assembly bolts that hold primary pump to bottom of machine!

Remarkably, the microwave, probably NOT made by any Maytag company hasn't had any issues yet. This is apparently typical of our Amerexican lack of quality. I just want to say that I have SOME notion of what appliances should be like, I have even installed my own in several house flips in the last few years. When I purchase my own appliances for my own house I will seek out NON - Amerexico-made products that will perform and last. Perhaps I'll pick made in Korea or China products next time but certainly no Amerexican brands made on this side of the world. What a shame.

Shame on "Maytag" sullying a once-great brand name. My Grandmother's 1975 Maytag Clothes washer and Gas dryer are still in service with normal maintenance at my sister's house...I wouldn't bet my life on ANY current "Maytag" product. Greedy, slimy ###. Love, NoMercy

Post Script - I DARE anyone from the Maytag organization to defend their junk. Go ahead...oh, nobody stepping forward? Hmmm... They must all be in the Amerexican Autonomous Zone where there is no accountability, pride of craftsmanship and design and certainly no other agenda other than to rip-off dumb Amerikan Konsumers.

Bought the Maytag Quiet Series 100 dishwasher as an upgrade for a new house. 3 1/2 yrs later, of minimal use, the control panel has now quit. The cost for the control panel $170.00 plus installation. May as well buy a new dishwasher, IT WONT BE A MAYTAG. Thanks to all the other Maytag complaints posted, I will not spend the money to repair it, as the repairs never seem to end on this junk. This dishwasher was a waste of money and I will never buy Maytag products again nor would I advise anyone else to.

As well their customer service could not care less about consumer issues. Extremely poor product for what one pays for it.

Well I guess I will chime in on the junk made by Maytag or is it Whirlpool now. Also have a few words for Home Depot, you need to quit selling Maytag trash. We purchased a maytag quiet series 300 a little over 2 years ago. The machine worked fine, it did seem to run long and according the manual a normal wash is 97-117 minutes, but at least my dishes were clean, pots included. But now I had to replace the handle, once I did that, the silly thing quick washing. It turns out that the motor and I hope it is the motor is shot. I got a low current error during the manual and field service tests. But what I find so very upsetting is that maytag has stopped every appliance dealer from carrying the manuals unless they are maytag certified. You can't find a service technical manual any where except from maytag. I have the skills to repair my own machines but I can't because maytag deemed it necessary to hide all its service manuals. I read some where where maytag is now owned by whirlpool and if so that would explain the trash being produced. Two stinking years and the motor is shot. There are only three people in our household and we didn't use the machine that often, once every 3-4 days.

I really wish there was a class action suit against them. Every where you turn you read the same problem with the same machine.

I noticed that the inside of the door needs to be cleaned (shouldn't this happen when the dishwasher cleans?) My door latch also is not disengaging so we can't open the door, it is like tug-a-war and I am afraid I will soon lose. Maybe there should be a recall on the latch at least.

Just installed a 300 series dishwasher, timing the wash cycle - it is NOT quiet by any means. Purchased from Sears (which is certainly not the Sears my Grandparents raved about) these people are clueless about product. We are a little weary now that we have read these post and the fact that Sears mentioned this was the only one left in their entire inventory and did not know why. We convinced them to sell this floor model and a discount - They said this rig is about 1 -2 months old
and no more in stock? Hmmm, a bit nervous - May bite the bullet and go for the higher end Kenmore.

I bought a Maytag washer approximately six weeks ago and it sticks on spin/rinse. I called and was told a tech would be out 9/17 between 1 and 5. I called at 4:15 to check whereabouts of the tech. Was told he was running late but would be there. At 6:30 I called again and was told no one answered the door, which was a flat out lie. I was in the living room/ kitchen all day. Then I was told by the same person the request for repairs was called in and cancelled. She gave me the same time I called looking for info when tech was coming. Two lies by same person. I called Maytag service again and they are suppose to send someone out 9/21 between 1 and 5, heard this one before. In the mean time I lose money and time from my job because they cannot do theirs correctly. last Maytag product I will ever buy.

Agree 100%. We own a quiet 300, about 3 years. in the last year, it has stopped cleaning the top rack items. (should check the clooging mentioned) Unfortunately, the front panel has stopped working in last 2 days. It is a very thin touch panel, no buttons underneath I found out when I removed it. A replacement touchpad is $150. After reading this panel- I think it is better to haul it to the dump and replace it with a different manufacturer. I would join a class action in a minute. This is not what I would expect as a consumer for quality from "Maytag".

Not only have I wasted many hours on hold with Maytag - Dependability Plus, butI have been met with staff that are NOT knowledgeable, UNorganized and some who have made me feel like I was an unavoidable interruption to their day and have a 'that’s all I can do so deal with it' attitude. RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL !

4 year old JennAir refrigerator (with a 5 year warranty) ---compressor died - Dependability Plus sent a Service provider who is Not authorized to service Jenn Air products? Do you know how long it takes just to get DP to even take your call? To have wasted time with a service agent not authorized to service our product - unbelievable! As of the date of this post - 14 days without a working refrigerator and still counting. I guess the only recourse is consumer affairs since MAYTAG & DEPENDATILITY PLUS does NOT HONOR WARRANTIES SOLD WITH THE PRODUCTS! and of course, never ever purchase a product under the WHIRLPOOL CORP. umbrella - because if they cared about repeat business they would ensure good service!

Your complaint really should be with the service company which is probably Sears/A&E. Contact Maytag and tell them you want a different servicer. I'm sure they have some independents in your area.

I had the same problem with mine and just fixed it last night. The screen on the inlet side of the solenoid valve was clogged with dirt so there wasn't enough water going into the tub of the dishwasher. To find out if this is your problem, open the door of the dishwasher, take a butter knife and push it into the slot where the door latches with the dishwasher until the handle pops out like the door is closed. Now start the washer and watch the water come into the tub on the left hand side of the dishwasher. If it is just trickling out then you have a problem with your solenoid. Close the door and cancel the cycle. You will have to turn off the water and remove the solenoid from under the dishwasher and look at the screen if it isn't dirty then you will need to replace the solenoid. I hope this helps, there is so little out on the internet about these stupid dishwashers!

Oh My God...if I had read these complaints I would not have bought my dishwasher. I too went to Home Depot and purchased this POS. I guess they had some kind of sales contest because the person helping me could not talk this thing up any more than he did. I hope he made his quota for the month with the sales. I would join a class action suit in a heart beat. I am looking now on buying a dishwasher form a manufacturer that does not have all of these problems.

I shouldn't be so surprised after reading all these comments, that so many others are disappointed with the series 300. I bought this one 5 years ago ONLY because I had a Maytag for YEARS prior with no problems, and I liked the way the racks are designed. This new one is junk. It has never really gotten dishes clean like the old one, plus there are common equipment failures. My top rack also broke - the piece that holds the roller and the top rack in place broke and you can't just buy the little piece to fix it - you have to buy THE ENTIRE TOP RACK! And it's not cheap - about $150! What a scam! I rigged it to work with a nut and bolt and a couple washers. It doesn't "roll" but at least the top rack is held in place. Now the latch is flopping around like it's ready to fall off. To save wear and tear on the latch, I don't fully close the door when not in use. The latch WILL let go any day now and I'm not fixing it, I'm buying a new machine and it WON'T be a Maytag. This machine doesn't even get much use as there are only 2 of us in our household. I can only imagine how quickly this would have worn out if I used it daily.

I have been a Maytag Customer over 34 years. I am now 53 years of age. My husband and I decided to give our previous Maytag washer and dryer to one of our relatives. Our relative needed the new appliances and was unable to purchase new. We were confident that the washer and dryer would provide many more years of service. The appliances were 20 years old when gifted.

In place of our previous washer and dryer we purchased a Maytag Performa Washer & Dryer. We are very unhappy with the perfomance of our NEW washer and dryer. The washer does not spin dry the clothes adequately. If the load is off balance the washer continues to spin and actually shake the machine. I have spent way too much time re-spinning loads of laundry. The washer does not perform as WELL or Close to our previous macine. The dryer does not dry clothes on the first attempt. This occurs most often on the Auto Dry function. These units are suppose to be energy efficient, WRONG.

To make matters worse we purchased a Maytag French Door with ice/water in the door. The icemaker does not work half the time. We have balanced the refridgerator, had a representative work on it, etc. nothing seems to work. The icemaker for no reason will stop working. We have to cycle the icemaker off for a couple of hours and then restart. The machine then makes ice. However, all the ice is fused together, the icemaker can not handle the frozen chunks and causes the "screw" to jump out. If the ice isn't frozen together it is inoperable due the mechanism used to move the ice out of its socket.

I am no longer a happy Maytag consumer. My husband refuses to purchase a MayTag product again. What have you done to your products to have such poor quality? I am upset since I have always purchased Maytag products. Any advice?

My Maytag Quiet Series 300 was in my home when I bought it. I agree with all of the previously mentioned issues regarding this washer. I usually hand wash my dishes before loading. So all the dishwasher does is heat and sanitize. I have to dry the dishes by hand once the whole cycle is finished becaused they are all wet.
Also, I have the "stainless steel" front surface which is a complete joke because it is streaked with rust stains. I have tried every product on the market to remove the stains and nothing works. This machine is a complete piece of garbage. If there is a class action suit, please count me in.

This might be your fix:

I just bought this washer used off of craigslist because our other 10 year old dishwasher wouldn't drain properly and like most I wish I would have looked this model up. Luckily I work on electronics and have a good understanding on how machines work and why they won't...but I am by no means a dishwasher repair man! The handle is easy to repair if you don't mind taking the front off of the dishwasher by removing several hexed screws on the inside of the door, mine broke on day one and I'm assuming the previous owner knew this and failed to mention it. I worked around a fix for mine and it's hard to explain but I'll try. I pulled the handle out since it was broke on the back in several places and if you look at the T shaped off-white bracket that contains the switches and latch you'll notice it is hinged at the bottom, pivot it on the hinge so the lock activates slightly...this will allow you to shut the door, it will latch enough to close tightly and latch enough so it will run. You should be able to open the washer without the using the handle to unlock it. I'll search for a new handle some day...but this works for us.

Now...
if your washer is filling and then runs quietly for about 20 seconds and then starts growling at you...it's because it is running low on water and the pump is complaining about it. My fix was the water valve from my plumbing to the dishwasher was not on fully. Apparently the water fill feature is on a timer and stops whether or not the washer is full of water which I find odd. There is a float in the bottom of your washer to your right hand side. This float activates a micro switch that stops the water...which could have been used to measure the water level for fill, instead this appears to be an overflow switch. So increase your water pressure! Check your valve, check for kinks in the line and then check the flow basket which is located at the back bottom of the washer off to your left. If you still can't get proper water pressure there is a trick. Start the rinse cycle, allow it to fill for about a minute, hit cancel twice so that it doesn't drain the water. Now start your washer with whatever mode you find the best and you'll have enough water that the water pump won't growl at you and your dishes should get cleaned.

Good luck

Hope his helps.

I fully agree---this dishwasher was a waste of money. It doesn't clean well, doesn't dry and tines on the top and bottom rack have broken! And now the bottom of the door is splitting open. Every time the bottom rack rolls
in and out it pulls the piece of plastic open more. I have had this piece of junk for 2 years.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG! Can't afford to buy another dishwasher at this time.

The only thing I can use it for is a drying rack. I hand wash and then put the dishes into this so called dishwasher . Leave the racks pulled out and the door open so dishes can air dry overnight.

Is there any way to possibly... clean out the filter somewhere? Maybe, I don't know, it's just that... because the dishes WILL NOT get clean no matter what. Even if I re-do the cycle, I still end up having to scrub a few of them by hand. I've tried combining cascade with jet-dry even in the hopes that maybe double the power would... clean them at long last.

At the bottom, I've even tried pulling the bottom rack out and just cleaning along that...filter down there. Doesn't seem to be doing much as they still aren't getting all the way clean.

So much for dishwashers, back to scrubbing manually. :(

Maytag Support has been difficult to contact and competely unresponsive about getting the appropriate technician out to fix a big screen TV. I've lined up a service rep that has the part and is in the neighborhood to fix the set today. Maytag, however, will not send authorization, deciding instead to use another service company that will arrive later in the week.

The entire issue seems to revolve around making the change. They're completely unwilling to do so, yet will not give any reason when asked. Consideration for the customer is apparently of no concern to them whatsoever.

I will never buy a Maytag product or any product that uses Maytag Support for their warranty coverage. I'm absolutely disgusted with the way they do business.

Maytag Quiet Series 300 saga!...I too bought this piece of a junk dishwasher, purchased 3 years ago from Sears. I've read all the other complains on this message board and I too have the same exact problems as everyone else. First to go break was the top rollers, second it was the brackets that hold the top rack, third door handle won't lock and eventually broke, message board doesn't work. Last but not least and most importantly, dishes came out dirty and of course we try to rinse them before loading them into the machine and it still was not 100% clean.

Now, the machine doesn't work, ? surprice, surprice. I'm done with Maytag!.

I too was brainwashed into thinking Maytag was a great product! This was the first and last Maytag product I will ever purchase. I bought mine from Sears 3 years ago but it hasnt worked in over a year. Mine also needs the control panel which we currently cant afford and dont agree that we should have to pay for. This is obviously a lemon! As far as a class action suit against Maytag I did a little research and found that they've been sued before and the consumer won. Probably contacting the law firm involved in the last law suit would be a place to start...as they know the ins and outs... Im in as well gailforce1@comcast.net

F Y I Found this info by searching "maytag neptune class action lawsuit"

The Philadelphia-based law firm of Sheller Ludwig & Badey and the Ambler, PA-based law firm of Kimmel & Silverman, were among several firms that have resolved a class action law suit against the Maytag Corporation, alleging odor, mold and mildew problems with Maytag Neptune Wasters. More than two million consumers are included in the class, and may receive repair reimbursements, replacement costs up to $500, and/or washing machine purchase certificates up to $1000. Jonathan Shub of the Sheller firm served as one of three co-lead counsel in the Maytag case.

According to documents filed in the Circuit Court for the State of Illinois, many Maytag consumers have complained of their machine functioning improperly and clothing covered in mold, as a result of problems with the door latch, wax motor, motor control, and related circuit boards.

"The number of complaints coming in from across the nation to our firm was quite high, among the most we've ever received. It was clear that a number of problems needed to be addressed by Maytag. Thanks to all co-counsel and the relative speed with which Maytag responded, consumers were able to use the class action the way it was intended, for the benefit of all, more quickly, and at a significant reduced cost than if each consumer sued individually" according to Craig Thor Kimmel, Esq. for Kimmel & Silverman.

I so agree! We did get the repair man after I went thru the customer toture department. This was only a few weeks after I brought it home. I had pictures of a pot on the top that I removed still covered with WET sauce. I rinsed it in the sink for about 15 seconds and it was cleaner. Repair man said that he had more calls on this one than any others. Unfortunately it is a piece of junk and we are forced to wait until its death to get a new one. No more Maytag EVER and I tell everyone I know. The company doesn't care! Who owns them? China?

I've had mine for about 3-4 years now. Pretty much same as everybody else. Love the fact that I can take out a dozen cups and 10 of them have crap caked on the inside of them. Thing is loud and takes forever to clean. The only thing I found to help somewhat is to get those little Cascade washing cubes and run it on tough scrub. That seems to work about 50% of the time. Other than that, this thing is complete junk.

Mine just blew up. I heard a loud bang while running the weekly auto clean cycle. I am glad we were home. We unplugged it. My husband has been saying for years I have to clean the dishes first, until recently, he has started to do dishes and has found that the dishes go in clean and come out caked with junk. I told him the dishwasher was junk and now he believes me. I also have Maytag washer that broke within the first year. I came home one day to my house flooded because the valve that shuts off hot water didnt shut off. The repairman fixed it and it has been fine since but I am unable to use some of the accessories so I can keep it running.I am ashamed to say I picked these appliances out and I hearby resign my post.

I too have a Magtag quiet 300..I've put up with it since May 2006. It never has worked right. After every wash I have to handscrub the silverware because it has rust spots all over and the dishes are still wet with bits of food debris on everything and the bowls and cups have water and food flooding in them. Yesterday the water would not drain out, the dish soap sat in the dispenser the whole time and turned into a rock pile. I rewashed them 3 x's and had the same experience each time. My husband had to sock the water out with a wet-vac... Finally I handwashed everything...Its a $600 piece of junk...

We have had a Maytag Quiet Series 300 for about 5 years and we will never buy anything made by Maytag again. It does a poor job of washing dishes and has never dried them from day one. Its is definitly not quiet. The middle rack broke first and fell down under the weight of dishes and silverware only. The replacement parts don't last long either. Multiple plastic pieces from wheels to foldable rack holders/supports have broken or warped. We have had multiple dishwashers over the years and Maytag has been the worse by far.

I bought this same dishwasher 3 months ago, we are in the middle of a remodel. When the dishwasher was installed and powered up the first time, nothing but blinking lights on the control panel. I called for service, and the tech I spoke with told me it was probably the circuit board. So, right out of the box, this machine will not work. I am considering asking the dealer for a replacement with a different brand.

We bought the same dishwasher. It is far from quiet! We rinse off dishes before loading and they actually come out dirtier than when we loaded them. There is all kinds of sediment on the inside of the glasses, along with a milky film. Also, the plates and silverware are discusting! I end up rerunning the dishwasher and it still is not clean. Finally, out of fustration I hand wash all the dishes. That is what I have been doing... washing by hand. At least I know they are clean. If a class action suit is in the works count us in!

I have had nothing but misery with this piece of chunk>>>as far as I am concerned its a DISPOSABLE piece of garbage !
Within 6 mts I needed repair service after numberous calls about being extremely noisy !
Back twice... before finally REPLACING MOTOR ! (Not sure on the price for this, as was under warrenty) !
Fine for about 6 mts before doing the same thing again>>>spent another year with extreme noise and not washing properly !

Finally back to REPLACE ANOTHER MOTOR !
Motor & pump assembly
Motor Assy
Impeller wash Assy
Seal Kit Metal Cho>>>>For a Grand Total of $539.96
(This is still under warrenty>as I paid the extra for extended warrenty) !

About 4 mths ago>every green light on the control panel started flashing and the door handle broke ! Called once again for service and he came and told me that its a piece of chunk and not worth fixing anymore. Of course this cost me $75 (since I now no longer have any kind of warrenty) to be told something that I already knew !
This dishwasher was only used 8mts of the year as we move to our cottage the

Also BUYER BEWARE>>>supposingly Maytag has been bought out by WHIRLPOOL !

Well I guess I'll put my two cents in also, ITS A PIECE OF SHI*. Owned this machine for 4 years and have had to take it apart to clean all the ports due to hard water. This was last year, now this son of a bit*& isn't cleaning anything, not even the soap that you put in the dispenser. All the soap is still there but has ran down the inside of the door. I'm about to take this thing apart again and hopefully find something simple. Count me in on the lawsuit. I'm tired of my wife ### about this thing, she thinks I built this mother fu84*$!
