Microsoft charges

Microsoft*xb have allowed 15 charges againist my checking account as of 3/23/11. I am furious, anxious, disgusted, concerned etc... this is a disgrace! they told my husband and I on the phone that "they have the identification of the person who stole my debit card number" to do all these 15 transactions within 15minutes apart, that is, 1 per minute. how come this wasn't red flagged to begin with. whom ever stole my identity, how they got my number on the card, etc., is really bothering me. you have to identify yourself when buying most merchandise on line with your three digit # on the back of your visa/debit card - how this culprit knew this, I just don't know. today I filed a "fraud complaint" with the police, the bank are working on the case right now, hopefully, all my money will be credited to my checking account, we are talking nearly $400, and hopefully the police will indeed take it further and get the actual information from microsoft*xb so that my husband and I can actually and hopefully address the matter in the way it should be addressed. has this happened to anyone out there and if so what was the outcome?

Microsoft unauthorized purchases

The day after our usual monthly automatic debit for Xbox live, three charges totalling $219.97 were charged on my card through same account. Had to cancel debit card, &all MS accounts frozen for 10 days till resolved. My first thought was Inside Job, due to timing & same problems in2007 by employees. Hope we get it back; do not like having to tie bank card to Live account. Can't MS robo-call to verify non-automatic purchases? Would save a lot of problems.

Microsoft 1-month subscription??? ha!!

Do NOT ever give your credit card to XBOX LIVE! EVER. It does not matter if you sign up for a limited liability option (such as a one month subscription). Apparently there is something burried in their "terms and conditions" that you "agree to" when you click the button on your console/tv screen. (Oh, you didn't see the fine print? Ahhh too bad. Yes, it IS unfortunate, but that's the way we do it here at good ol' Microsoft folks.) They will continue to charge your account on a revolving subscription and they will NOT give any refunds. "Good will" does not seem to be a part of their marketing strategy. The worst customer service--really unbelievable. Thank God the whole world doesn't opperate in this sneaky, slippery way.

Microsoft threats

On 2/28/11 my son's XBox Live account was suspended indefinitely. The suspension was legitimate based on a mistake that he made; however, it isn't the suspension that irks me -- it is the process that they have for trying to obtain information about a suspension. You cannot speak to anyone directly; instead, you have to log into the Xbox website and submit your inquiry via a public forum. Note - if your original account has been suspended you cannot log into their website using that account ID. You have to create a completely NEW account to complain about an existing account. Once into their site, you have to submit your inquiry to a public forum.

After 2 response from them that were completely canned responses citing their Code of Conduct documentation, I finally asked for the EXACT reason our account had been suspended. Their response included the reason and also a threat that if I continued correspondence with them that my CONSOLE would be banned (which means that we wouldn't even be able to pay for a new Live account because the actual console would be locked out).

I find their approach to be very suspect. First off, it is extremely difficult to even escalate the matter at hand. Secondly, you can't even speak to anyone to 'plead' your case. Lastly, since their word is final, the only way to continue to online gaming experience is to purchase another years subscription (an interesting business model to generate additional income before a users subscription is actually up).

I find my entire dealing w/their support team to be appalling. As of tomorrow we will be dumping our Xbox console and purchasing a brand new PS3. I don't mind spending $400.00 if it means I never have to deal w/the Xbox team again. And, hard as it may be -- I plan to eliminate all Microsoft products where I possibly can! This means goodbye Windows phone, goodbye hotmail account, and goodbye anything else I can dispose of that bears their logo.

Expensive but worth it personally.

To clarify -- we weren't "banned" outright. His subscription was forfeited. I can pay for another one (something Xbox has just confirmed for me) and we can start playing again today.

I find it interesting that I'm not disagreeing with you, yet you continue to hammer away at the fact that my son committed some egregious offense. He made a mistake, Xbox chose to enforce their rules in the way they did. I don't agree with their approach therefore I'm bowing out of giving them any more money. After having slept on this for 24 hours, I'm not even sure we'll buy another gaming console for our house. The entire world of online gaming is just weird, and that it illicits so much passion from folks like you to be disrespectful to someone you've never met is beyond me.

I hope you find other threads to disagree with. You do a great job at it and obviously have lots to say.

On a side note -- a real thanks to the guy who wrote about his experience w/PS3. Futher convinces me to stay away.

Update by Kdubb
Mar 05, 2011 4:24 pm EST

I do have an issue with what my son said/did and in my appeal to XBox I fully admitted that I had not read every line item of the Code of Conduct to him. What he did was wrong -- he knows it and I know it and that is NOT my issue with Xbox.

My issue is that they do not allow a dialogue. They do not support the motto of customer service. And, my comment about them trying to generate extra revenue -- well, that was based on the fact that while they suspended our current account, I can go purchase a NEW Live subscription and my son can play again. To add to that, their threat to completely ban our console if I wrote them back and asked any more questions is completely unacceptable (and childish really).

I also very closely monitor his gaming use (our system too is in a public place) and am not a hands off parent by any stretch. Truthfully, I'm not entirely familiar with the crazy gaming world and didn't even realize what he was doing was wrong.

The wonderful thing about this country is that I do have a choice. I can speak out w/my wallet and not purchase another product from Microsoft if I feel that strongly about how they have handled this situation. Yes, my son made a mistake but he doesn't have any other recourse to "make up" for that mistake then to purchase another Live subscription and not do it again. That is still very suspect to me!

I agree 100% if they were actually concerned about banning you they wouldnt let u buy another account. This is strictly an attempt to gain more revenue all they care about is the money not the consumer. That is why apple is starting to dominate the market. Pretty soon apple will have their own console that will over take xbox because of microsofts incapacity to have decent customer support. I was recently banned permantly for using xbox for "commercial purposes" honestly i never read any terms of service in detail which is where u find the part about commercial purposes at the very bottom. And if they enforced rules about vulgar language like they enforce the commercial purposes then almost every kid would be suspended. I find it somewhat hypocrtical to enforce some rules but not others. In hindsight i know i broke the rule but i would easily change it as soon as i got my live account back. If not i will have to give up xbox and microsoft and they lose a couple grand in revenue.

Oh man, I'd be careful going on the PS3. Their conduct terms are even more strict than Xbox. In fact, if you get caught in any violation, your PS3 will get banned outright, as will your IP location, which prevents you from buying a new PS3 and using their online service. I don't know what your son did, but I would watch him like a hawk on the PS3.

Just got off the phone with (3) Microsoft REPs who cannot validate the sudden charges to my checking account for a LIVE subscription. Last July, I called and CANCELLED our LIVE automatic renewal subscription and requested that the credit card be removed from their records. We use the prepaid cards from GameStop. I noticed on my recent bank statement a $24.99 charge; that prompted me to check others and sure enough there was the same charge in Feb. Why the lapse from July 2010 to February 2011? These are fraudulent charges! They KNOW I cancelled the automatic renewals last summer, yet, they will only refund the most recent amount. Is this how Bill Gates has become one of the wealthiest in the world? I plan to pursue this legally. It's clearly fraud and theft; someone has to be held accountable.

My son had a friend over for a sleep over. While he was doing something else, his friend bought some points and avatar stuff. It is absolutely assinine that you have no way to preven the purchase of avatars and other things on your account if you are subscribing with a credit card. Come on Microsoft, is this the best you do, you can't even put in a stupid account block to prevent unauthorized purchases. I bet Apple could!

Microsoft fraudulent charges on bank account

Three fraudulent charges for 6000 XBox Live points showed up on my bank account on February 24, 2011. Fortunately my bank alerted me to this fraudulent activity within 30 minutes of the charges and shut down the account. They provided the [protected] phone number to dispute these charges with Microsoft XBox Live. I do not own an XBox or have an account so I had to navigate the auto-phone answering maze to get to a customer service representative. He was courteous and polite but it took over 30 minutes on the phone for him to lockup those account charges and generate Support Case Numbers to start the fraudulent charges investigation on their end. He stated that it may take 5 to 7 days for them get back to me and refund the charges. Meanwhile me account is locked out and and I can not purchase anything online until I get a new card. This was NOT Microsoft's fault but their XBox Live system is open to this type of fraud. This is a big inconvenience but I sure am thankful for my bank's fraudulent activity monitoring department.

Microsoft impossible to download

We have purchase a number of Office Professional Packages from our local dealer. We believed that Business Contact manager for Outlook 2010 will be included on these Disk's. Big Mistake ---- You have to download the BCM from a given Web site (via Microsoft).
You first have to say that you accept an Microsoft License Agreement, then it takes you a Digital River's web page where you have to enter your License Code, select your language and enter thier funny code that you hardly can read.
The System goes away, validating your License and after a long time it times out with the error 504 Gateway Timeout.
I Have phone Microsoft and the referred me to Digital River. Digital river says they cannot help me since they need a Microsoft Order Number. Since I have purchased these packages via our local supplier, where can I get a Microsoft Order from. I'm on my way returning now all the 2010 Office packages. I cannot accept that nobody can help me. I'm in catch 22 and I know Microsoft Stinks with a very bad smell.
Oracle's openoffice looks so much better now..

I just checked my account, had't looked at it in over a week, which was unlike me. I logged in and found 150 dollars in XBOX Live fees.
My son bought an Xbox and has been playing it but he doesn't have access to my credit card, has no idea how the charges got on my card. How could they get my card information from him using the xbox online?

Has ANYONE got their money back?

My little surprise of $74.99 came today. The posting was for March 14, 2011. Like all the others I don't even own an Xbox. I called my credit card Folks. They're looking into it. They never mentioned I should replace my card but that might be the best way to go.

Well I am banned of XBOX Live again as this idiot guy and his girlfriend keep getting all of their clan buddies to spam file complaints on me. His gamertag is GREY FOX OZ and hers is FOXY FOXX OZ, help me and file complaint them as I want to get even.

Now to Microsoft, how crap is that we pay for a service only to get banned for absolutely nothing or something so trivial. Also how come the system can be so abused by these groups of people with no lives who just ruin the fun for everyone else. They just will get anyone banned they feel like, as long as a lot of complaints are filed in a short amount of time they will get banned.

Microsoft you are terrible and so is your customer support!

GREY FOX OZ and FOXY FOXX OZ you guys are terrible for being so abusive and ruining the fun for everybody on Xbox Live.

Geez it is just games we are talking about here, games! So much drama hey?

Xbox has been a terrible waste of money. I've had problems with both the Original Xbox and the Xbox 360, and it's been going on for years. I've spent thousands, and all they gave me was one month of free Xbox Live.

I can't judge one way or another on this guy, but as a father of 2- 13 year olds, I am appalled at the level of cheating going on. I use to play with them when they first got the x box 360 about 3 years ago. As they got older they gravitated towards the COD games. I wasn't very good, but when I had my shoulder operated on 2 years ago, I had nothing I could do and I played COD WAW until I got pretty good at it. Now when my sons or I get on WAW EVERY ONE OF THE GAMES WE TRIED TO PLAY FOR 1 HOUR had people with modded controllers, boxes, aim bots or whatever. Game after game of one or all the players on the other team that couldn't be killed or was floating around, made playing totally pointless. If Microsoft doesn't want to police their own games and not patch or upgrade and punish people, so these things can't happen, they will open themselves up to lawsuits especially when these hackers eventually steal personal information. This has to be stopped or a campaign will have to be started to boycott Microsoft games as there is no point playing something that has no skill and just depends on who has the most mods to allow them to rig them games. These people even advertise their mods and hacks on their gamertags. How nice. I think I'll call our State Rep and see if he'd like to get the State Attorney General in on this.

okay, i am purely at my whits end WITH FECKING XBOX! i've bought 4 and ALL FLAMING 4 are broke, .. red ring, internal failure, stupid colourful lines that would kill an epileptic and better yet freezing and deafening screeches! the last one has now just been thrown out of my window. i will not be purchasing another microsoft product again. all i get are appologies "replacements" and one month cards WHEN I HAD A FECKING YEAR membership! i seriously am anti PS3 but NEVER IN MY LIFE have i been this dissapointed by a company who made promises and only half fulfill them, my N64 lasted me an eternity, the thing is still running in perfect condition! and i have had 4 xbox 360's and two of the original xboxs! so before they even entertain the idea of making a new console, they should adapt on MAKING ONE THAT ACTUALLY FECKING WORKS TO THE GUIDELINES AND PROMISES!

LAG, LIES, CRAP PROBLEMS, NOT LISTENING TO CUSTOMERS, USELESS "APPOLOGY" GESTURES, AND BEST OF ALL EVEN AFTER "ONLINE MAINTENANCE" STILL AS CRAP AS EVER!

Microsoft is being sued as a class action for several problems with the XBox. I am quite sure the law firm taking on Softy would like to hear from you. Go to www.classadvocate.com. Click on Defendants then scroll to Microsoft. Should find the XBox info there. Send an email to me under the Contact section if you need more help. Good luck.

Well, this is one of the thousands of 419-emails, originating in Nigeria. Don't fall for it, there is no win/gift/present. Only fees to be paid upfront. Companies like Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, and all the other used names don't do promotions or lotteries. Use your common sense: You can never win a lottery if you did not buy a ticket. When I get a mail from any unknown person I always first check the email address for online scams. Just go to http://www.scamalert4u.com and enter the email address. Within one minute you see whether it came from a scammer. Also, look at the given phone number. A UK number that starts with "+4470" is a numer which can be redirected anywhere in the world, mostly used by Nigerians to hide their location. Take care.

Description: I sold my xbox360 Last April, 2017. And have been charged for nearly 10 months since, and have cancelled over the phone and online twice now nearly 8 months ago! Is there anything you can do to fix this?!

I have since called multiple times now and have been promised this would end. I have called my CC company and had them try to fight it, but have found little success. If there is any justice or a way to make this end other than changing my CC # only because of Microsoft, I would love some help. I can provide a screen shot of original email, and witnesses. I'm just not sure what else I can do, Microsoft has stolen almost 240 dollars from me, and I want it back.

Please help,

Yes, I found out the reason why it was titled that, because that was the only email I had previously in my gmail regarding XBOX support when I had a power issue a year earlier. I had gotten frustrated trying to speak with people who couldn't understand english, and or I couldn't understand them.

You have to admit it's terribly hard to get thru to someone and when you do, and you figure out the issue, they talk to you and say it will never happen again etc and only to find out they are still charging me 9.99 per month is very frustrating. I am a professional singer, and live on ships 6-10months of the year, so I can't follow all of my CC statements. Honestly, this is a true issue, I'm not making it up and I would love for anyone to tell me where I can go to get my 220+ dollars that I am owed.

I have had multiple conversations now with different telephone support who have told me my service would be turned off, and how sorry they were. Is there a more official place to go to raise a complaint? XBOX live literally has been taking money out of my account long after I have quit. Over the phone, their website, online, email etc... They really have so many ways that they say works, over the last 18 months I have learned for me unfortunately nothing has.

Not sure why it's titled that way, however, I have called numerous times, and haven't gotten any help, I have contacted my own CC # to get them to stop letting them charge my account, if this board really isn't the right way of fixing this I don't know what is...

Not sure why it's "Fishy" I literally have called numerous times and asked to cancel, asked them to stop charging my card, told them I had been charged numerous months after selling my XBOX almost two years ago.

I have been receiving automatic debits out of my checking account off and on since 2017. The bank has not been able to track the problem down and my daughter pulled up this website and we are now writing to complain about this. So far we have calculated at least $202.37 has been unauthorized and deducted from my account. I demand a refund and should I find further unauthorized deductions prior to 2017, I will expect repayment of those amounts as well. This is called FRAUD as you all well know it to be. I cannot believe these people are getting by with this! I expect a timely response to my letter of great concern. I am 84 years old and cannot afford to pay for something unauthorized and then deducted out of my account with no phone number to respond back to. UNACCEPTABLE!

This is infuriating, someone once again called me from XBOX to "confirm my address and email", it is almost a month that I initiated a repair order which has now turned into 7 different "repair orders" because every time I call a new person answers the phone and tells me the same thing "can I call you by your first name?" and gives me the same directions on what to do which I've heard seven times before. I realize now that XBOX is not willing to honor the warranty on my console and is just delaying the process so that my warranty expires or I give up, well I won't. I have documented and recorded every conversation with "Mike, Angelo, ..." and everyone else and I will initiate a formal complaint with the BBB. I spent a lot of money on this console and I have read online that this situation has happened to many others, Enough is enough!

Unauthorized charge checkcard 01/17 microsoft *xbox live bill.xbox.com wa in the amount of $74.99.

Recently went to www.jackpotpokerstore.com (a yahoo merchant store) & the store does not respond to messages or deliver merchandise.
Also bought from pokernstuff.com, discountpokershop.com, nolimitpokerstore.com with no problems.

Bank of america is handling my dispute.

Is this common only to bank of america or yahoo stores? btw, yahoo doesn't care.

I totally agree. I looked this up after I was just charged $59.99 for Halo 3 which we bought, on disc, the day it came out! Last month it was $9.99 for live monthly which I had used a 12-month card for... Now they say "well it was purchased, and there are no refunds!" I'm about to trash the Xbox completely. Modern-day thieves...

I was victim just yesterday (2/27). BOA notified me of suspicious charges and put a hold on my card. I will get a new card. I don't use any yahoo stores, so not sure where they got it from. I do a lot of online shopping, but not with anyone new recently and a lot of it with paypal - which is linked to my bank account - so i have some concerns there.

I also called XBOX support at 1-800-4MYXBOX. The person there did some research and found two accounts had been opened in my name. She removed the card from their system, canceled the accounts, and escalated the report to the fraud person(s).

My bank also said to open a police report and notify the credit bureaus.
Equifax 1.800.525.6285
Experian 1.888.397.3742
Trans Union 1.800.680.7289

If you are is the US, also notify the FTC.

Both Microsoft and Bank of America credited my account after posting the dispute with BOA. BOA is reversing their reversal since Microsft gave the money back. Maybe it happened this way since I found the charge while it was in process.
My case was ID theft so I'd still like to know from others if there is a commonality to this, e.g a visit to a Yahoo store or strictly Bank of America accounts. Anyone, anyone?
